The National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs (NAC) is a national accreditation program that provides early childhood leaders the chance to show and document quality performance by using evidence-based practices and research-based criteria. The accreditation was created for early care and education programs that are used to promote both professionalism and quality in Child Care.
Accreditation Process
The process involves a self-study component and a validation visit and review by the National Accreditation Commission for the definitive accreditation decision.
Eligibility Requirements
NAC provides accreditation to Child Care Centers. Stand-alone School-Age programs and Family Child Care programs do not qualify for the NAC accreditation. For early Child Care and education programs that are applying for accreditation must be in compliance with state and local regulatory agencies. They also must meet the following guidelines:
Programs must be in operation for at twelve continuous months at the time of the validation visit
Programs are required to have a licensed capacity of at least 15 children and operate on a half or full-day basis
The director of the program must hold this position for at least six months before submitting a request for an on-site visit
For the program to apply for accreditation each position must have the following educational requirements:
A Director: The on-site administrator has a bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or a related field with 12 college credits in early childhood education/child development. Also, six college credit hours in program management/business administration or nine continuing education unites in business and at least one-year experience in administration of a Child Care program, and a minimum of two years of experience in teaching in an early Child Care and education class.
On-site Supervisor: An on-site supervisor could be an assistant director, a program coordinator, and any other staff that has supervisory/ and or mentor responsibilities. The Onsite Supervisory Staff is required to have an associate degree or higher in childhood development/childhood educator or a related field with 12 college credits in childhood development/childhood educator. In addition to a minimum of two years of experience in an early childhood education and care classroom.
Lead Teachers: Most lead teachers will possess an associate degree or higher with 12 college credits in early childhood education/child development and at least two years of experience in teaching in an early childhood education and care classroom.
Assistant Teacher: Most of the assistant teachers/teacher aides at a Child Care center have a CDA credential.

What do children do in kindergarten?
Your child has imperceptibly grown up and is ready for a new important stage in his life – admission to kindergarten. The baby will enter a new environment. If earlier he contacted mainly with parents and close relatives, now his social circle will expand at the expense of educators and other children. Mom and dad need at this time to provide the baby with comprehensive support, to facilitate its adaptation to completely new conditions.
What do kids do in kindergarten, and what is the benefit of visiting a preschool educational institution for their further development?
Why does a child need to attend kindergarten?
It is in the kindergarten that the child develops the first communication skills that contribute to his further socialization. Already at the age of two, children are actively making contact with both adults and peers. The baby may have the first friends, he learns to interact with the team, find a way out of conflict situations.
The preschool program is focused on the all-round development of the child’s personality. To do this, educators conduct numerous classes of various directions. Much attention is paid to physical culture, because the health of the future generation depends on it. The guys do morning exercises, attend sports classes. Kindergarten creates favorable conditions for the development of creative abilities. Kids are engaged in singing, dancing, drawing, modeling, making crafts. Children of the middle and older groups take part in solemn matinees, put on interesting numbers, play skits. Also, educators conduct classes aimed at instilling in children a sense of patriotism, love for their native land, etc.
In the process of training, such psychological processes as memory, thinking, and imagination develop. The child learns to listen carefully to the teacher, trains the concentration of attention and perseverance necessary for further schooling. Toddlers participate in discussions, learn to express their thoughts, defend their position and listen to the opinions of others. Children work with concepts such as color and shape, learn to classify objects according to external features. Communication with peers and the teacher contributes to the accelerated development of speech, the vocabulary of the child expands.
Kindergartens have a whole staff of specialists. If deviations in the mental or physical development of the child are detected, the educator can involve a psychologist, defectologist, speech therapist in the correctional work.
Should I send my child to kindergarten?
Recently, more and more parents refuse to attend kindergarten for their children. The baby is looked after either by a housewife mother or a specially hired nanny. On the one hand, this is good: the child is protected from injury, illness and other dangers. However, studies conducted by teachers and psychologists indicate that children who attend kindergarten become more disciplined, observe the daily routine, and learn to manage their time. In adulthood, they can motivate themselves to take certain actions, occupy leadership positions more often and achieve success.
If you decide to send your child to a kindergarten, start preparing well in advance.

Alana is a graduate of Minnesota State University–Mankato in Elementary Education. She joined the Y in 2003, most recently as the Family Engagement Program Director at the Eagan Y.
Alana’s favorite thing about Lakeville ECLC is seeing happy faces coming through the front door every morning. She loves hearing the daily stories being shared between family members.

It’s easy to make a referral. Pass on the referred parent’s name, along with some basic information about the family to your program director.
Complete the parent referral form and give it to your program director.
After the new family has enrolled at any of our Early Childhood Learning Center locations and stayed for at least four weeks, you’ll receive a week’s free tuition for your oldest child.
You can refer as many families as you’d like to earn more. Every time a child is enrolled as a result of your recommendation, you’ll get a week’s free tuition.

Why do we do early development?
Children’s club Gulliver is not only an early development center where children simply learn to read and count, where they take classes in chess and acting, where they study foreign languages and other developmental activities. All this, of course, is true. In our children’s center, your child will undoubtedly receive valuable skills and abilities. But among other things, our children’s club is a place where a social circle is formed for your child. Being close to beautiful, confident, purposeful, attentive, highly cultured and benevolent adults, children involuntarily learn the same. These are the teachers in our early development centers, other behavior is not acceptable for us.

American Diana Black, who tried to protect adopted children from Russia in Texas, is facing trial on charges of inciting children to leave home. The meeting is scheduled for May 14, ITAR-TASS reports.
In August 2008, Black, a psychotherapist and owner of Roosevelt House, a private orphanage in Hardin County, Texas, was sent by the state to inspect the family of Michael and Penny Deckert, who have an adult son of their own and three adopted children from Russia – the boy Zachary and the girls Kelly and Chloe (their Russian names are Alexey, Anastasia and Svetlana Klimov). A married couple took them from an orphanage in Krasnokamsk in 2003.
What he saw amazed the social worker. Dirty, hungry and ragged children appeared before her, obviously afraid of their adoptive parents. The children did not go to school. Earlier, Alexei-Zakari was expelled from it for stealing food and money. He did not deny that he took someone else’s: according to him, other children themselves sometimes gave him money out of pity. And the adoptive father lamented along the way that “no one wants to formally file charges” against the child, who at that time was 12 years old.
Michael Deckert made no secret of the fact that he would gladly get rid of the boy, leaving only “more obedient” girls in the family. Then Black, with the consent of her father, took Alexei to her shelter, but he soon came for him, as the local sheriff explained to him that he could be held accountable for failure to fulfill parental duties and even collect alimony.
Even more than their father, the children were afraid of their adoptive mother. According to them, she beat Alexei whenever he caught her eye, using a mop handle or a long electric cable for this. She put me in a corner – with my bare knees on the scattered rice – locked me in a cramped closet with a bucket for sewage. In this stinking closet, he, according to him, often spent whole days, freeing himself only to do some housework. Later, the eldest of the sisters began to join him there.
In her audit report, Black concluded that children were subjected to “malicious abuse” and that continued exposure to such conditions was fraught with danger to their health. She was sure that the adopted children would be taken away from the Deckerts. But that did not happen.
The woman tried to help Aleksei-Zakari and his sisters: she bought the boy clothes, arranged for local dentists to repair for free the front teeth broken by his mother (namely, by his mother: this was reflected in the medical record and later confirmed at court hearings). To all complaints to the relevant authorities, Diana Black received an answer that, they say, they would grow up and leave the family themselves.
Alexei did not wait for this. Actually, Black was sent with an inspection to the Deckerts after he, according to his adoptive father, “ran away for the eighth time.” And then he constantly ran away from home. At first, he survived for two or three days, feeding himself in the forest and with compassionate neighbors. And in June last year, he left completely, promising to return after coming of age and release the sisters.
In the spring of 2009 they all ran away together. First we hid with the neighbors, then asked for help from Black. She, taking a friend as a witness, went to the capital of Texas, the city of Austin. I asked for an appointment with the head of the relevant department of the state government. She suggested meeting at a restaurant with the children. Black was later detained by the police.
As a result, the woman ended up in court. And along the way, she also lost her license for professional activities. True, it was later restored, but the Roosevelt House shelter was closed.

WHAT LATINS VOTE FOR
Hispanic voters in Texas have turned their backs on the Democratic Party in the past decade. Longtime blue strongholds in South Texas have felt the effects of this phenomenon the most, according to The Texas Newsroom.
At the same time, Hispanic votes continue to grow in importance, especially in our state where Hispanics are the largest demographic group. Everyone from border security to the economy to Donald Trump has been credited with changing voting patterns, but what are the top issues on Latin American voters’ minds this election season?
Sharon Navarro, professor of political science at the University of Texas at San Antonio, analyzes the situation.
“I think Latinos are more concerned about what they have in their pockets and what they can offer for lunch for their children. For Hispanics, the most important issue is the ability to support their family. And that’s what the Republicans were able to take advantage of.”
She thinks Democrats are betting on race issues, but Latinos are more concerned about bipartisan narratives about the economy. And it works in favor of the Republicans.
“For the Hispanic electorate, the most important thing is the economy, it’s health care, it’s education, it’s gun politics, violent crime, everything that we’ve kind of witnessed as a larger community over the past few months,” says Sharon Navarro. “Immigration is an important issue, but not the most important one for Hispanics.”
ONE PILL KILLS
Governor Greg Abbott announced the launch of a coordinated Texas One Pill Kills campaign to combat the growing national fentanyl crisis engulfing Texas and the United States. The announcement comes after Gov. Abbott directed state agencies last month to step up efforts to tackle the deadly fentanyl crisis.
“Fentanyl remains the deadliest drug threat our state and country has ever faced, killing four Texans every day,” Governor Abbott said, “and Mexican drug cartels strategically manufacture and distribute the drug disguised as painkillers, stimulants, sedatives, and even candies”.
Governor Abbott also announced new laws to be considered in the upcoming legislative session that would classify fentanyl as a poisoning, allow a person to be charged with murder if they distribute fentanyl or fentanyl-laced drugs that kill someone.
Nearly 1,700 Texans died last year from fentanyl. Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 45. From February 2021 to February 2022, more than 75,000 Americans have died as a result of fentanyl-related overdose. In the past year alone, Texas law enforcement has seized more than 342 million lethal doses of fentanyl — enough to kill every man, woman, and child in the United States.
SERIOUS SHORTAGE PRESCHOOL INSTITUTIONS
“Great retirement”. “The Great Change”. “Great exit from work.” Whatever you want to call it, the job market has experienced profound turmoil in the era of the pandemic. While there has been a return to the new normal in many sectors, the same cannot be said for the childcare industry.
The pandemic has indeed exacerbated an already struggling childcare industry as low wages and few benefits created an unstable workforce from the start.
When the pandemic hit, many centers closed temporarily. They waited for all the federal and state funds to come in, but many centers closed permanently and many home service providers also closed permanently.
Prior to the pandemic, Texas had approximately 14,000 licensed and registered preschool care facilities. Today we have just over 13,000. This is about 850 providers less than before the pandemic. About 6% did not return.
So we are seeing shortages and services are not being delivered as they were before the pandemic. We have quite a few kindergartens, where there are many more children than before.
Thus, low wages, lack of benefits, and a backlog of federal funding are key drivers of industry-wide shortages.
TROUBLES IN THE POLLING STATIONS
With the 2022 midterm elections less than a month away, election organizers in Texas and elsewhere continue to face harassment and threats that experts say never happened before the November 2020 presidential election.
In August, all polling station staff in Gillespie County, about 80 miles west of Austin, resigned, citing threats, “dangerous misinformation” and a lack of resources. That same month, an election administrator in Bexar County, San Antonio, reported that her department was facing similar challenges.
In Texas, about a third of election organizers have quit in the past two years, according to polls conducted this year by the Secretary of State’s Office. Government officials said data through 2020 is less reliable, making it difficult to compare rates over time.
AUTUMN IN THE PARKS OF TEXAS

North and East Texas

UNUSUAL CATCH AT SHARKATON
A father and son from Texas thought they caught a huge shark off the Padre Island National Shore last weekend.
However, it wasn’t a shark, on Friday, October 14, they caught a huge manta ray. They went to the beach to compete in the Sharkaton, the premier fishing tournament in the Gulf of Texas. Arisp, a native of Corpus Christi and a lifelong fisherman, used a striped jack as bait, paddled about 200 yards in a kayak, and cast a line for his son Jeremiah.
According to Arispe, after almost 30 minutes the spinning took off. Just then, his son jumped up and grabbed the line to catch what they thought was a shark. Because of how hard the fish fought, Arisp figured it was a 12-foot shark. He said his son fought the fish for 45 minutes before Arisp saw the massive fish jump out of the ocean. It was then that he realized that it was a sea devil or a manta ray.
“I remember reading that this fish is very rare, it is protected and not fishable, so I knew we needed to land it and pull the hook and then release it,” Arispe said. “So we fought for a total of two hours before we managed to get her out of the water. ”
However, as soon as they did so, Sharkaton’s master of ceremonies passed by and prevented Arispe from pulling the hook. He said they should alert biologists at the National Park Service before anyone can release the manta ray back into the water.
The tournament has a requirement that all chance catches must be registered with the National Park Service so they can report to the National Marine Fisheries Service, an affiliate of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
NPS recording and reporting allows staff biologists to confirm, photograph, and measure a species before reporting it to the NMFS. Usually, fishermen are not required to report an accidental catch, but a manta ray must be called to the NPS.
The manta ray caught by Arispa and his son turned out to be a male 9 feet wide from wingtip to wingtip and weighing about 600 pounds. Arispe said his son was thrilled, adding that he said he didn’t know whether to be proud of him or disappointed that this was not a catch that Sharkaton could win.
“Later he realized, ‘This may never happen again,’ said Arisp. Catching a manta ray on the beach is like catching lightning in a bottle. You know, it just doesn’t happen. He was handsome and of incredible size. We were both excited and a little shocked.”
After the biologists took notes, Arisp and his son unhooked the line and released the manta. He returned to the ocean without problems.

Where can a child drown?
Anywhere. This does not always happen in deep waters. When the author of this article was doing residency in the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics and Traumatology, the head of the department, a doctor with vast experience, often repeated the phrase: “A small child can drown even in a glass.”
If there is enough water in a container for a child to dip his face in, it is already dangerous. First of all, this applies to the age of 1-4 years. Babies drown in buckets, basins, puddles, garden barrels, and even in pet drinkers. If in a pool of water a child is only chest or waist-deep, he can still drown. There are cases when unattended school-age children drowned in the bath, although there was just nothing there.
How do you know if a child is drowning?
First of all, forget the shots from Hollywood films.
The child does not flounder or scream, he just drowns quietly and quickly, usually within 30 seconds.
All efforts of the respiratory system are aimed at getting a breath of oxygen, so there will be no loud screams. Instead of waving his arms, a drowning person tries to push them off, from the outside it looks like a game.
Often, when a child drowns, the parents are very close and do not understand that the baby needs help. This is impossible to understand if you do not know what drowning really looks like. Remember the main signs.
Mouth at or below water level, or wide open with head thrown back.
“Glass”, “empty” look.
The legs are usually not visible because the drowning person’s body is in a vertical position.
The child’s hair falls on his face, eyes, and he does not try to brush it off.
The child tries to swim in a certain direction, but remains in place.
The child tries to roll over on his back, but he fails.
If you do not understand whether the child is drowning or just playing, ask him if everything is all right. Doesn’t answer?
No time to think: quickly pull him out of the water.
The main security measure is constant supervision
Children who are left without supervision most often drown. Even if there are many adults near the pond, this still does not guarantee safety. Firstly, not all people know the signs that a child is drowning. They can stand nearby and calmly watch how the baby “plays” in the water.
Secondly, when there are many adults, everyone and at the same time no one is watching the children. Everyone hopes for the others.
Therefore, rule number one: at least one adult should be nearby, in the water, and only look after the child. You can’t be distracted by anything. Five seconds to view messages on the phone – and the tragedy has already happened.
Even if the child can swim, one of the adults should be nearby. If there are several children in the pond, they need to be introduced to each other and explained that everyone should periodically check if his friends are nearby, if everything is in order. The child must clearly know the rules of behavior near water bodies and the pool.
Teach your child to swim
Parents decide at what age to start. Better immediately, as soon as you feel that your child has matured psychologically and physically. You can teach him to swim on your own, but it is better to enroll in a special section where a professional instructor will work with him.
Use a vest and sleeves
Special vests and sleeves can save your child’s life. It is mandatory to use them, but you should not rely on them completely. The first step is constant supervision.
Learn first aid in advance

First, thing to note: the moment when you have a lifeless child in front of you is not the best time to learn how to provide first aid. It is almost impossible to carry out effective resuscitation on a whim.
Trouble does not come according to schedule. But the courses are held regularly.
There are many of them – for every taste and budget, up to free ones. Of course, there is always the hope of remembering what you accidentally read or saw.
For example, 10-year-old Jacob O’Connor from Roseville, Michigan, rescued his 2-year-old brother from drowning in a pool by mimicking his favorite action movie hero. But such self-control is the exception, not the rule, you should not count on it, so we are preparing in advance.
Second.
Remember to gently but firmly remind children of the responsibility of open water.
According to the statistics given by the Lisa Alert squad, drowning is the main cause of death among lost children. 8 out of 10 dead drown, it is the caution in approaching the water that can save the life of a child. Sooner or later, the child will end up on the shore of the reservoir without you. It’s better if he’s ready for it.

Be sure to wear life jackets for all walks and other activities on the water.

Modern pre-school education in Cyprus becomes compulsory from four years of eight months. But many parents start looking for a kindergarten much earlier. Officially, maternity leave in Cyprus is 18 weeks (about four months), so working mothers pick up a nursery in advance.
Today the country has a large selection of public and private institutions for preschoolers. Private kindergartens are popular among Cypriot citizens and non-residents temporarily residing on the island. In institutions, children are accepted from the age of two, and sometimes even younger.
Pre-school system in Cyprus
Kindergartens in Cyprus strive to create conditions that maximize the feeling of being in the family. Communication between children and the teacher is based on the principles of respect, safety and personal characteristics of each.
There are three types of preschool institutions in the country:
State kindergartens are managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth. The state subsidizes the construction and repair of buildings and premises, the salaries of educators and the purchase of teaching materials. Parents of children under 4 years 8 months old pay a monthly fee of €45 and up, depending on the decision of the government. The fee depends on the average family income. The lower the income, the less you have to pay for the kindergarten.
Community kindergartens are opened when there are not enough places in public kindergartens in a particular area. They can be created by various public organizations, parent associations or by decision of local authorities. Registered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth. The garden is managed by local authorities or the association of parents, who take on all the funding.
Private kindergartens belong to a specific owner in the form of a legal or natural person. All expenses are paid by the parents. The cost of a child’s stay in such kindergartens is much higher than in public ones, but they provide more services.
Every private preschool is required to obtain permission from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth based on the recommendation of the Private Education Oversight Committee. To open a private kindergarten, in addition to permission, a license for this type of activity is required.

Parents are more likely to choose private kindergartens for the following reasons:
Low admission age. Usually, children are accepted in private institutions from the age of two. But there is a nursery with a special program for babies, where they take from one year.
Free choice of location. It is not necessary to choose a private kindergarten in the area of residence. You can choose an institution closer to work or in another convenient place.
Entry during the year. You can enroll in a private kindergarten throughout the year. They enroll in state institutions only in January, and you will have to wait for the results of admission for several more months.
Foreign languages other than Greek. They work with children in English and sometimes in Russian. At the same time, the program includes compulsory lessons of Greek as the state language of the Republic of Cyprus.
Long working hours. State kindergartens, like other budgetary organizations, work on average until 13:00. Private kindergartens are open until 17-18. If necessary, you can agree on an extension until 22:00 or a night shift until 8:00.
International standards of education are focused on the harmonious development of the child through creativity and physical activity.
