Jowonio accepts students with a wide range of backgrounds, skills, and learning needs. Teachers emphasize social inclusion as they plan and work to build a sense of community and social problem-solving.

WHOLE CHILD CURRICULUM

Using a combination of relationship, play-based, and experiential approaches, Jowonio teachers provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is adapted to meet the needs and interests of all students. We focus on the whole child, addressing all learning domains and styles of learning, with a particular focus on intentionally teaching social interaction and problem-solving skills. The daily schedule in each classroom is designed to include a balance of child-initiated and adult-directed activities throughout the day. The curriculum also incorporates many opportunities to celebrate creative expression through art, music and dance; the school layout includes multiple indoor and outdoor spaces for movement as well as an art studio and a library.

TEAM APPROACH

Jowonio is deeply committed to a team-based approach that includes a strong partnership with parents. Classroom teams include teachers, assistants, aides and support staff such as speech, occupational and physical therapists, and social workers. On-going mentoring, coaching and collaborative problem-solving is provided by experienced support teachers. We have a school-wide commitment to regular meeting times for planning and clinical discussions. In addition we have opportunities for parents to volunteer and engage with staff in two-way communication, through our website, e-mails, parent conferences, and/or home visits. Social workers offer individualized family support through respite, support and instructional groups, access to community resources, and crisis assistance.

Syracuse and Gems of Ghibla

Being an hour away from Sicily and not visiting Archimedes is no good. Is that why the second popular day trip route from Malta is built around Syracuse?

As with the trip to Tarmina and Mount Etna, the journey starts from Pozzallo. This is a small fishing village and at the same time a port where a catamaran arrives from Malta. From there, a comfortable tourist bus goes straight to Syracuse.

What associations does anyone have with this ancient city? Well, Archimedes (as well as the legendary bathtub and lever) – this is understandable. We present one more song for service – a poignant (everything ingenious is simple) song “Syracuse” by the French chansonnier Henri Salvador. It contains the following lines:

While I am young,
While my springs make me happy,
I would like to see Syracuse,
To remember them in Paris.

In general, we got in the right mood on the way, right?

Syracuse is first and foremost the center of ancient Greek culture: they say that there were once more Greeks in Sicily (part of the so-called Magna Graecia) than in Greece itself. It is the city of the scientist Archimedes, the playwright Aeschylus and the poet Pindar. The philosopher Plato also lived here and wrote off the model of a utopian community from Syracuse. It is also one of the centers of Christianity, embodied primarily in the most magnificent cathedral (Duomo), which is located in the most modern district of the city of Ortigia and which was built on the site of the ancient Greek temple of Athena, which occupied a dominant position in the area. It contains part of the relics (left hand) of one of the most revered early Christian saints – the virgin and martyr Lucy of Syracuse.

After the spectacle, it’s time for bread: you will be offered a lunch of typical Sicilian dishes (included in the price of the tour) in the agro-tourist complex. Since there are only two types of food in Sicily, “good” and “very good”, hurry up and enjoy!

Have you eaten? Now you can go to the resort town of Marina di Ragusa, where there will be time to swim. The road passes through the outskirts of Giblai – one of the mountain ranges of Sicily.

From paradise for the body (oh, how refreshing swimming in the sea!) we are finally going to paradise for the eyes and… the stomach. We mean the city of Modica, which is known not only for its perfect baroque architecture, but also for chocolate, which is still produced according to the Aztec recipe (yes, this is not the usual chocolate we are used to). And so, with the tiles of this heavenly pleasure, you can have time to admire the world-famous Cathedral of San Giorgio.

You will have free time for lunch (not included in the price), after which the group will go to Marzamemi. We will visit the colorful fishing village and the Campisi company, famous for its Sicilian delicacies. Campisi is a leading producer of fish products: caviar, raw tuna (bottarga), red tuna, traditional Sicilian sauces, the famous Pacino tomatoes grown in this part of Sicily.

Guided tours on Wednesdays and Fridays. At the moment (as of June 2023) the tours are in English only. We leave a note to the tour organizers about the preference for listening in Russian, and if at least 15 Russian-speaking tourists are recruited on the date of the tour, it will be possible to listen to the guide’s story in Russian.

Biden visits newly renamed Fort Liberty military base in North Carolina

President Joe Biden to visit newly renamed military base in North Carolina while visiting base formerly known as Fort Bragg

, where he will sign a decree aimed at facilitating the employment of spouses of military personnel and army veterans.

The executive order directs the federal government to develop a strategic plan to recruit and retain military spouses, expand childcare opportunities, and more than ten issues that will make life easier for loved ones of the US military.

First Lady Jill Biden, who spoke to reporters by phone ahead of her visit to the Fort Liberty base, said the order was largely shaped by the president’s interactions with members of the White House’s Join Forces initiative. The program is aimed at supporting those injured while serving in the military, their families and carers of veterans. Biden is expected to sign the executive order while visiting the base.

According to the White House, nearly one in five military families have trouble finding work for their spouses, often leading to consideration of leaving the service. More than 16,000 military spouses now work in federal departments and agencies.

“We are asking agencies to make it easier for spouses working in the federal government to take administrative leave, work remotely, and move from one branch to another,” the first lady said. — We create resources to support entrepreneurs. And the Executive Order is helping agencies and companies keep military spouses on the payroll through the ability to work remotely.”

The signing of the decree will take place at the newly renamed Fort Liberty base. The base, formerly known as Fort Bragg, was renamed just a week ago due to the fact that the previous name was associated with the name of Confederate Army General Braxton Bragg.

The recent renaming of the largest US Army base – some 47,000 soldiers serve here – did not play a role in choosing the place where Biden was going to sign his decree. This was reported to The Associated Press by an administration official who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity.

Before visiting Fort Liberty, the Bidens will meet with students at Nash Community College in Rocky Mount. A college with a historical African American student population, it recently received $23.7 million to prepare students for clean energy jobs.

« No More! swears TV show star and celebrity chef Sandra Lee, recalling the two-year saga of renovating her home in Westchester County, New York, “I didn’t think it would take me so much time and effort!” And Sandra had something to compare. She has four weekly cooking shows under her belt, written 25 cookbooks, and launched her own homeware lines at Kmart and Sears. And yet she tried not to fall into despair, scrupulously choosing paints, furniture, textiles. “I don’t like to grab the first thing that comes across,” she explains, “I had to think it over a hundred times and do it perfectly, that’s how I am arranged.”

She was saved from despair by her innate overorganization. It was this character trait that allowed him to simultaneously do home repairs, star in popular shows and develop his own brand. She and her husband Andrew Cuomo, former governor of New York, and their three daughters wanted to create a real family home where everyone would be comfortable and the girls would have a place to play and walk.

After reviewing dozens of options, Sandra couldn’t get the one out of her head – “the one with the pond.” The most interesting thing is that the site was not even sold, but this did not stop her from slowing down every time she drove by in a car: “This is the quintessence of an American home, it just has wonderful energy.”

As the saying goes, the one who walks will master the road. Her perseverance paid off: the house was put up for sale and, despite the gloomy, dark interiors of the 1970s, the family immediately bought it. “There were well-proportioned rooms and beautiful fireplaces, which I adore. But what attracted me even more was that it was perfect for all of us. At heart, we are homebodies and spend a lot of time at home, watching TV, chatting in front of the fireplace, making fun of each other,” says Sandra about her family.

To begin with, Sandra decided to get rid of the dark walls, replacing the paint and wallpaper with a fresh, rich palette – from eggplant and chocolate to blue, warm white and bright red. She loves textiles and their textures, so she furnished each room with upholstered furniture: upholstered chairs and armchairs, modular sofas, and even expanded the window sills so that in any corner of the house you could sit down to relax or chat with each other.

“I love this house and have a personal relationship with every room. When we put the property up for sale, I prayed that the next owners would love it as much as we did and cried for hours. When I was walking towards the gate for the last time, a strong gust of wind suddenly came out of nowhere and hit me in the back. My breath caught in my throat, I turned around to look at the house one last time and thank him for all the wonderful days we spent there.

The first 12 months of a child’s life. For the newborn himself and his young parents, this is a whole life. Every month brings new skills, new experiences, new expectations. Our pediatric neurologist Roman Sergeevich Popovich told in an interesting and humorous way what to expect, what to pay attention to, and what to do when the most important person in the world appeared in your life – your baby.

Childtime’s The Empowered Child curriculum, designed by early education specialists for our Skill Builders and Kindergarten Connection classes, is inspired by the Reggio Emila approach to early learning and is based on the work of respected child development/early education theorists Jean Piaget, Erik Erikson and Lev Vygotsky. The Empowered Child curricular principles follow the guidelines for developmentally appropriate practice set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The Empowered Child curriculum provides three components of quality education: developmentally appropriate activities, a wondrous classroom environment and quality teacher-child interactions.

The Activities: In the Childtime classroom, we give children the time, materials and guidance to understand their world and to communicate that understanding in ways that are meaningful to them.

Childtime recognizes that children are naturally curious about the world around them and learn critical foundational science, math, and reading and writing concepts through hands-on, sensory-oriented activities. We support children’s active exploration and investigation through creative play activities.

The Classroom Environment: Brain research has shown that children make deeper connections in comfortable, calming, home-like learning environments, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world. We know that children feel safe here and are therefore best able to focus and learn.

Teacher-Child Interactions: Our skilled teachers encourage children to express their ideas and feelings in the ways which they are most comfortable, freeing them from the fears of mistakes and deepening their knowledge of the world around them.

Through the Empowered Child Curriculum, children feel valued for who they are. Children leave our program well-prepared for their kindergarten and elementary education, empowered to acquire skills they will need to become responsible members of their community, creative problem-solvers, and life-long learners.

We offer Infant and Toddler care, Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten and Before- and After-school clubs for School-Age students. Whole Woman’s Health Alliance is a non-profit organization that operates abortion clinics in Austin, Texas and Charlottesville, Virginia. The Whole Woman’s Health Alliance is currently awaiting Indiana’s decision on a licensing appeal so they can open a clinic in South Bend. For the latest South Bend news, we spoke with Whole Woman’s Health Director of Clinical Services (North) Sharon Lau.

Like many clinics that actually provide abortion services, Whole Woman’s Health has firsthand experience with these fake clinics.

We could tell story after story about how women shared their experiences with us in these centers, but here is just one recent story.

The Women’s Care Center (WCC), an organization with over 20 fake women’s health centers in 11 states, operates a center right next door to Whole Woman’s Health (WWH) in Peoria, Illinois.

A couple came to our clinic and told our staff that they went to the WCC by mistake. The WCC staff made them think they were in the right place and pulled the couple apart. They performed an ultrasound on the women, and when she sensed something was wrong and tried to confirm she was there for an abortion, the WCC officer said they needed to talk more. She then placed the couple in front of a large screen with a photo of their ultrasound and stickers saying “hi mommy” and “hi daddy.”

When they finally got to WWH, my husband asked our staff why they (WCC) are allowed to be so close and make people think they are in the right place? Indeed, why? Because the WCC and other organizations like them don’t really want women to make their own decisions about important health issues, but instead want to mislead and shame them into continuing their pregnancies no matter what. Unfortunately, these stories are not unique. This is a deliberate strategy of fake women’s health centers across the country.

We are in the process of opening a clinic in South Bend, Indiana and have purchased a commercial building uniquely suited to our needs after several landlords refused to rent to us. Shortly thereafter, the Women’s Care Center (WCC) purchased a residential property right next door to our building.

They sought to change the area of the building for commercial use so they could open one of their centers, claiming that they wanted only women living in the neighborhood to have options and easy access to care. Not only does WCC already have 5 centers in South Bend

WCC could purchase one of the many vacant buildings in the same area with the same women’s access in the area that has already been zoned for commercial use. Instead, they decided to buy a building that was not yet vacant and zoned for their needs.

The community fought back, and with the help of the brave Common Council members and Mayor Pete Buttigieg, they won. Ultimately rezoning denied

Throughout the process, the WCC touted their support and respect for women while denying that their goal of trying to find a house next door to WWH had anything to do with confusing women. Their argument was clearly insincere. This choice was a clear indication that their priority was first and foremost to be right next door to Whole Woman’s Health (WWH), where we know from experience with other WCC sites that this would be designed to confuse and mislead women.

Shortly after the rejection of the rezoning, the WCC announced that they were buying commercially zoned property right across the street from WWH. While we are not surprised, we are disappointed by the persistence of an unlicensed, non-medical healthcare provider who continues to try to discourage and shame patients into not coming for our healthcare services.

Dads love history, monuments, and museums. In one of nature’s cruelest twists, kids are, historically, not huge fans.

When I was a kid, my dad LOOOVED taking us to the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum. He was unphased by our groans and complaints, in fact he may have been fueled by them, as dads often are. It’s not that he didn’t care that we didn’t like it. Now that I’m a dad I realize he took ambivalence as a challenge, that he would be able to convince us of how fascinating it all really was.

My family just got back from a trip to Washington DC for the White House Easter Egg Roll. The last time I was in DC was 30 years ago. I was 10. Coincidentally my son is now 10 (and my daughter is 12). So while we were sightseeing, I constantly compared it with what it must have been like when my dad took me there in 1993.

Our flight left Cincinnati at 6:30am. We left our house at 3am, because dads love arriving super early for flights. Dads love to beat the rush and dads love early flights because the airport is less crowded. Etc etc etc. Some cliches are true.

One of the first things we did was walk by the White House. DC was eerily empty Saturday morning but walking along the north side of the White House a Secret Service SUV suddenly stopped and rolled down its window. “HEY!” Uh oh… “THE DAD!” Uh ohhhhhh.

Let me pause and say that my kids do not think I’m cool. Partly because nobody’s kids think their parents are cool but mostly because I am 100% absolutely positively NOT COOL. Their assessment is spot on. But this was as if I scripted a scene that attempted to convince them I am cool.

An impressive Secret Service Officer got out of the car and shook my hand. He said “We see celebrities a lot but I don’t normally stop. But THE DAD? I love your guys’ stuff.” (As contractually required I assured him our content is made by a team of talented creators and I’m basically a boring business guy at this point.)

He got his police dog out of the car and let the kids pet him, even though he’s a highly trained combat doggo.

My son told him his goal was to play Joe Biden in basketball. The guy said, “Wellll I don’t know how athletic he is.” (Leaned closer and lowered voice.) “Well, actually I do but I’m not allowed to say.”

As he went back to patrolling, I gave my kids a knowing glance that asked, “Now do you think I’m cool?”

They responded with a glance back that unequivocally said, “Still nope. But the dog was cool.” Nonetheless, I am so grateful to that guy for stopping and raising my cool score from -1 to, perhaps, 0.

Did anything similar happen on my previous trip to DC in 1993? No because my dad’s meme game was trash due to memes not existing yet.

The rest of the day was quintessential DC tourist stuff. So go ahead and play some montage background music in your head while you glance at pics. (Star Spangled Banner is a timeless choice but I’ll also accept My Country ‘Tis of Thee.)

Did I appreciate DC more as a dad than as a 10-year-old kid? In ways words can’t describe. I stood in front of the Lincoln Memorial realizing this is the spot where Martin Luther King Jr gave the I Have a Dream Speech. I imagined throngs of people gathered. So much happened RIGHT HERE.

We went to Ford’s Theater, where Abraham Lincoln was shot. I imagined the what ifs. What if John Wilkes Booth DIDN’T do that? What if the gun jammed?

Life is tenuous. All of the moments that happened, both good and bad, celebratory and tragic, have led to the present and made our reality what it is. Historic spots, monuments, museums… they are documentation of the most important moments that got us here. They’re the inspiration for living a better life and making our children’s realities more rich and full.

I looked at my kids. Did they realize the enormity? Did they appreciate the history? My daughter said something so profound. (This is an exact quote. I wrote it down in my phone so I could get it just right.) She said, “You should be grateful to have kids like us. We’ve been up since 3am doing your crap.”

I think she gets it.

UP SINCE 3AM DOING “MY CRAP”

In 2.5 days we walked over 60,000 steps. When we’d stop I’d say “I need to rest the ole gams.” (Gams being a funny word for legs.) This became our running joke. Because what is a family trip if not a series of inside jokes you can look back on later in life. So the theme of this trip was not historical reflection as intended, but rather “resting the gams.” When we walked through White House security for the Easter Egg Roll on our last day in DC, my son asked the Secret Service Officer, “Is this the gam resting station?”

In 1993, we toured the inside of the White House. We couldn’t do that on this trip. Best I could offer was the South Lawn. What an amazing experience to walk the grounds. We saw the President, First Lady, the Easter Bunny, and Jimmy Fallon.

I’ve exaggerated for comedic effect. My kids appreciated the history more than most would. Certainly more than I did in 1993.

As parents, we need to remind ourselves: the point of historic sightseeing with your kids is not to induce some epiphany about their unique place in history and the world; the point is to create memories with your kids that they’ll look back on and appreciate when they’re older.

After I became a dad, when my kids were little, we invited my dad to go with us to the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum. I hadn’t been since I was a kid. Ya know what? Through adult eyes it really was fascinating. My dad won the challenge after all.

My kids humored us and were as interested as kids can get. But they got to spend time with their grandpa. That’s what it was about all along.

He passed away a few weeks later and that was one of the last times we saw him. I’ll be forever grateful that we took that last trip to the museum.

History isn’t only boring museums, statues, and lengthy esoteric plaques. History is personal: our family, memories, shared experiences, and inside jokes. Some fascinating, some boring. Some heroic, some tragic. That’s the stuff life is made of.

However, along with this, new worries about what care should be for a newborn in the first days of life in the maternity hospital fall on the shoulders of a young family.

At this time, mom and dad need to be especially attentive to their child.

Do not be afraid to touch the baby: the more contact the baby has with the mother, the better for his further development.

The skin of babies is sensitive and very delicate, so it needs special care. During your stay in the maternity hospital, the nurse will show you all the nuances of nursing procedures.

In order to make it easier for your baby to adapt to a new environment, you need to accustom him to a certain daily routine. This includes directly feeding, walking, bathing, caring for a newborn baby and sleeping.

Eyes

Washing

Treatment of the umbilical wound and cord residue

Nails

There is an opinion that it is impossible to cut a baby’s nails until a month old, but it is erroneous. Because if the nails have grown, then the baby can get hurt by them.

How to cut nails?

Use special baby scissors or wire cutters. Cut your nails straight, without rounding the edges, so as not to stimulate their growth and prevent ingrowth into the skin.
