Development of a child in the first days of life

Finally, a small, wonderful baby, whom you have been waiting for, has finally come into the world. He is still so unintelligent that he seems to have only two concerns: to eat and sleep, however, this is a serious delusion of most parents. In the very first month of its existence, the baby develops much more than in the rest of the years of life. Therefore, the first days of a child’s life after birth are quite important and full of certain difficulties.

After all, now he has abruptly switched from his usual environment to a new breathing and nutrition. A born baby, like all living beings, has a certain set of reflexes. If you touch the lips of the child with your finger, then he pulls them out, as he has already prepared to take food from the mother’s breast. At any loud sound, the child will be alert, frown, or, in general, scream. But the most important thing that should not be forgotten is that the child is already individual and has his own character.

Each period of a newborn’s life has a number of its own characteristics. For example, in the very first period of his life, up to about 10 days, the baby still does not hear well, as his body adapts to the new environment around him. Hearing develops gradually during the first year of a child’s life. Mom should help the baby develop this skill, constantly talk with him, although it seems that the baby does not understand, you can also turn on calm music quietly. An important thing in a child’s hearing development is a simple rattle. With its help, the child develops auditory skills, and the mother can observe such development. The hearing test is done with a clap – the child must close their eyes to this kind of sound.

As far as vision is concerned, the ability of a newborn to focus on anything is not developed in the first days. This skill can be developed in an infant with the help of the so-called mobile, which is attached to the baby’s crib. During waking hours, the child watches objects moving above him with interest – this, firstly, and secondly, thereby developing the skill of focusing his vision.

By the end of the first month, a newborn should have a certain list of skills. The first of these is a reaction to loud sounds, which is accompanied by a shudder or blinking of the baby. The second is the ability to keep an object in the field of view and follow it. The third is to raise and hold the head in a prone position for 10-25 seconds. Fourth – the baby already knows how to smile at all his relatives, but especially his mother. The fifth is the ability to make various kinds of sounds in response to the conversations of adults, in most cases it is a cooing. And the sixth, which can be attributed not so much to skills, but more to interesting facts – a few days after birth, a child can imitate the movements that he saw, for example, show his tongue or open his mouth.

As one of the Russian proverbs says: “It grows by leaps and bounds” – this also applies to children, especially newborns. Without having time to “blink his eyes”, the mother of a recently born child becomes the mother of a one-year-old baby, and the mother of a one-year-old becomes the mother of a schoolchild. Children grow up quickly and they need the attention and support of their loved ones, especially their mothers.

      Products for babies

The first toy is necessary for the baby to develop hearing, motor skills, color and tactile (tactile) perception. Rattles, bath toys, teethers and other toys for children up to 1 year old .

Children’s sets are made only of high quality hypoallergenic material. And the bright design will be pleasant to your kid. Children’s tableware with beautiful pictures turns any meal into an exciting game.

      For those who are older

Children 1-2 years old and older 2-3 years old will suit developing various soft toys (KURNOSIKI cube with a squeaker, KURNOSIKI soft puzzle, MOLLY toy etc.), coloring books, paints finger, stamp paints and others.

For children aged 3 to 6, puzzles, building kits, mosaics, modeling dough, fabric and body paints and other kits for developing creative abilities will be useful.

Toys and educational games will help your child develop properly.

21 tips for parents who don’t know how to survive a flight

It seems like only yesterday we were annoyed by other people’s children in the cabin – they constantly cry, make noise, kick your chair, and in general!

Then everything is in a blur… and now we ourselves are the parents of a baby who cannot be explained why he has to quietly look out the window for the entire five hours of the flight.

However, why only look out the window? Our colleagues from the Mel online publication will suggest a lot of other ways to survive a flight with a child without nervous breakdowns.

      0+: Baby on board

Babies under one year old are the easiest to fly with.

The pressure during takeoff and landing will help offset food or water—simply breastfeed, formula feed, or give your baby water from a pacifier bottle.

From six months healthy snacks like dried apples are also suitable. It saves, by the way, even better than lollipops – a life hack can be adopted by adults too.

Children under one year old usually sleep three times a day, not counting the night. So the chance that the child will fall asleep during the flight is quite large – especially if you adjust the flight time to the usual rest period.

But even if something went wrong and the child started acting up, there are at least a dozen simple ways to calm him down.

      Slingbuses

Until the age of one, a child flies without a seat and, as a rule, spends the entire flight in the arms of mom or dad. So slingobuses hanging around the parent’s neck can be great entertainment and keep the baby busy for a long time.

Wooden, juniper, silicone, equipped with a teether or bells – they can distract, soothe and help with teething.

And yes, don’t look at the name of this “gadget”: a sling is not an obligatory accessory for a sling bus. It’s just that initially they were created for those parents who practice wearing a child in a piece of fabric on themselves.

      Bottle rattle

You can, of course, use the usual plastic or wooden rattles (it doesn’t hurt to take them on a trip anyway) – but they are quite loud, and neighbors can be as unhappy with the sound of a rattle as they are with a crying baby.

But if you take a transparent plastic bottle from under the water and pour cereals (half or three quarters) into it, preferably bright (colored peas, lentils) – it will turn out quietly for others and bewitching for the baby.

      A toy from the package

Babies are like cats – they can play with anything.

A simple plastic bag with a bell or any toy inside (even a chocolate egg container or rustling napkins) will keep you interested for a long time. Just loosely inflate it and tie it.

You can endlessly crumple this toy in your hands, try to grab what’s inside, and the package rustles so interestingly!

All in all, all thirty-three pleasures for a child’s sensory development.

      Massage balls

Small rubber balls with spikes and pimples can be found in the pet toy department. We take 2-3 pieces with us and arrange a massage for the child without getting up from the chair. You can roll on the palms, arms, heels, legs.

Do not be surprised if the baby falls asleep after such a massage.

      Toy on a ribbon

Closer to the age of one, children love to drop everything. This is how they master the cause-and-effect relationships. That’s just lifting things from the floor in a confined space you will not like it.

What to do? We take the baby’s favorite toys, tie a long ribbon to them (we again have an association with cats, and you?). And the tape – to the armrest of the chair, your wrist or baby’s leg. Threw, pulled the tape – the toy is back in place.

Ideal for this game are mesh balls that change shape, or cat toys made of woven twigs with bells hidden inside.

      Soft book

Children under one year old are not interested in reading books. But crumpling, rustling the pages of a book is a completely different matter.

Now you can find a lot of options for such books for the little ones – from very simple to author’s, handmade, made to order.

Make sure that there are many pages and that they are all made of different fabrics and interspersed with different textures and textures – such a book will really keep a child busy for a long time.

      Magic Pouch

You will need a regular canvas or fabric pouch and various items that can be put into it.

Keys, cones, those same massage hedgehogs, wooden figurines, shreds of fabric, chestnuts, walnuts.

Remember that objects must be relatively large so that the child cannot put them in his mouth or nose.

Digging through this bag is fun. But there is a risk that you have to pick it all up from the floor. So the bag is suitable until 8-10 months, when the craving for throwing has not yet awakened.

Plasticine, dough for hands or squish

In general, everything that can be kneaded in your hands for a long time – it changes shape, you can dig your fingers into it, roll it over your palms and stretch it out to infinity.

The main thing when choosing is to focus on the fact that the material does not get dirty, does not leave marks and is safe for the child.

Well, the fact that the child no longer puts everything in his mouth.

      “Into the hole”

When toys and rattles are tired, willy-nilly, you will have to switch to active games. The good old children’s game “jumping on your knees” is a great option.

There are a great many tunes to it, ranging from the standard and well-known “Over bumps, over bumps …” and ending with various creative variations on the theme – google it.

Parents will only have to change adults and remember, as they say.

And yes, this game is great for toddlers too.

      1+: Beware Toddler

Parents of children who have just begun to walk, but still do not know how to speak properly, stick their noses everywhere and are not ready to play word games for a long time, will have the hardest time.

In addition to the ideas of games already proposed above, we have several more options for simple entertainment for children a little older than babies.

No one canceled trips around the cabin either. A couple of excursions to the toilet will help pass at least 15-20 minutes of flight.

      Finger games

Boil porridge like a white-sided magpie on the palm of your hand, bang your fists, knead your fingers under “This finger is the biggest, funniest and funniest”, master the exercise “fist-rib-palm” – there are a lot of options.

We take any children’s poems and come up with movements for them (or use what they came up with before us).

With one-year-old children, you will have to do all this together and even for them – and those who are older, as a rule, join the game with pleasure and repeat the movements after their parents.

      Activity books

A sophisticated version of soft books for babies.

Here, as a rule, you can and should unfasten zippers and buttons, master laces and fasteners, put various objects in pockets, attach something to Velcro, and so on.

      Books with windows

Such a cardboard book usually takes up quite a lot of space, but it’s worth it.

The book will save you many times on the road during the whole trip – children can endlessly play with such books even alone.

      Tablet or drawing board

You can, of course, get by with just a notebook and pencils – or you can remember the drawing boards from our childhood, the images from which are erased with a slight movement of the hand.

Now there are electronic analogues of such toys.

You can draw together, one by one, with fingers or a stylus, whichever you prefer.

      Painting with paints

Don’t worry, no chair will be damaged and your child’s hands will also be clean.

Just take a zip bag, or better a few – and put finger paints inside (they are thicker). We close the package and give it to the child.

You can now draw patterns inside the bag and mix colors.

      Magnetic construction set

It is enough to take 15-20 pieces with you and you can build houses, towers and other buildings on the folding table.

Only no small magnets and balls! A child can swallow them, and this is really dangerous.

      Books with stickers

Dressing up fairies and princesses, assembling a car, arranging furniture around the house – such an activity will captivate a child from 1.5-2 years old.

And for the little ones there are books with reusable stickers so that in case of a mistake everything can be quickly corrected.

Choose books with your child’s favorite characters so that he will definitely want to spend time in their company.

      3+: It’s time to play

      After three, the fun begins!

You can, of course, just give your child a tablet or smartphone, turn on cartoons or audio fairy tales – or you can offer to play.

Other than paper and pencils (well, or a drawing tablet), in most cases you will not need anything.

      Tic Tac Toe

Don’t forget to give in. Remember: the child only masters this game.

      Draw some more

Drawing together is great. You start – the child continues. Then you switch roles.

You can also offer to turn the circle into an infinite number of objects, and the squiggles into funny characters.

      Coloring pages

By the age of three, children, as a rule, already master coloring. So coloring with large drawings will be able to compete with the tablet. But on the condition that you will color together.

And, for example, “magic” pencils – double-sided, three-color (in one lead), etc. will help to interest the child. Or felt-tip pens that change colors when you swipe them over each other.

      Activity books

They have all sorts of tasks, from finding differences between pictures and mazes to finding objects in the picture.

One book is enough for a flight.

      Magnetic board games

There are a lot of variants of these games. But the meaning, as a rule, is the same – you need to build a path in a certain way in order to lead someone somewhere and not meet someone.

90,000 most important care tips. The best article-reminder for moms and dads

Tips for young mothers on caring for a newborn baby: what to prepare for the birth of a baby, how to care for, feed, walk, bathe, put to bed. Answers to the most popular questions of moms.

      Contents

Moms who have given birth to their first child are sometimes in terrible confusion: preparation for the arrival of the baby and caring for him raise so many questions that you simply do not know where to run and what to do. Worry and despair are useless here, because the newly-made parents already have enough reasons for worrying. This article contains the main rules and tips for caring for a newborn, so it can be safely used as an instruction on all issues of concern to parents.

Preparing a dowry for a child

There is a superstition that it is impossible to buy anything for an unborn child, so some mothers do not prepare dowry for their children on purpose. These are just prejudices. For future parents and all relatives, it is a real pleasure to go shopping, choosing tiny hats and undershirts. Preparing a “dowry” for a future mother helps to tune in to imminent motherhood. In addition, when the baby is born, there will be such a turmoil that it will be simply impossible for the baby to calmly choose, wash and stack things in piles. So, what you need to prepare for the appearance of crumbs into the world:

      • Diapers (In total, you will need about 20-25 of them. The ratio of thin and warm diapers is determined based on what time of the year the baby is born. By the way, knitted diapers are very convenient: they are very soft, stretch well and fit the body).
      • Blouses or bodysuits (Unfastened vests are no longer relevant, because they are not comfortable. It is best to buy several blouses with a button or ties and several bodysuits).
      • One-piece overalls (Insulated overalls will be enough for the first time, but you can buy several thin ones).
      • Hats (Knitted hats without ties are the most convenient. 2 thin ones and one warm one are enough).
      • Socks (Soft knitted socks are useful even in the warm season. You can safely buy 4-5 pairs).
      • Warm wool blanket.
      • Flannelette blanket or plaid.

Some purchases can be left for later and, if necessary, entrusted to grandmothers. These include, for example, mittens – anti-scratches. Not all children resist cutting their nails, so mittens may not come in handy. Another purchase from this series is a pillow. Babies up to a year old can sleep without a pillow, using a folded diaper instead.

We also read: a list of things for a newborn baby

In addition to things, you need to prepare a first aid kit for the arrival of the baby:

      • Baby oil for treating wrinkles (you can do with sterile vegetable oil), baby cream;
      • Pipette, hydrogen peroxide, vial of brilliant green for the treatment of the umbilical wound;
      • Zinc ointment for rashes and diaper rash;
      • Bathing herbs, potassium permanganate;
      • Vapor tube, cherry-stone heating pad, carminatives (Bobotik, Sub-Simplex, etc. (see all anti-colic products)) in case of colic;
      • Wet wipes, cotton pads, sterile cotton, spout rinse – for hygiene procedures.
      • Antipyretic (better in suppositories), antihistamine (Fenistil) (see all preparations for fever).
      • Absorbent diapers and diapers for newborns.

Depending on the situation, it will be possible to purchase diaper cream and powder.

View and download the complete list of first aid kit for a newborn baby – list here

      Something for mom

After leaving the maternity hospital, mom will also need some things to buy in advance:

      • Bepanthen cream for cracked nipples.
      • Absorbent breast pads.
      • Comfortable nursing underwear.
      • Sanitary napkins (either special postnatal or normal but with maximum absorbency).
      • Postpartum bandage (for better recovery of the abdominal muscles).
      • Breast pads for feeding (what are they for and why).
      • Breast pump (how to choose and pump).

If everything is ready for the appearance in everyday life, it’s time to figure out and master the basic procedures that a young mother will have to perform daily and more than once.

Morning toilet: wash eyes, clean nose

Morning toilet is an analogue of our washing. Prepare a small bowl of warm boiled water, cotton pads and sterile cotton. We wipe the eyes with cotton pads moistened with water, making movements from the outer edge of the eye to the inner. Then, in each nostril, we instill 1-2 drops of special drops for washing the nose (you can use saline). We wait a few minutes until the crusts are slightly soaked. At this time, we twist small flagella from the fleece and gently clean the nose with them, making circular movements. You can not put the flagellum too deep. We clean the ears with the same flagella. Remember that a newborn baby can only toilet the nose and ears with cotton flagella. Children’s cotton swabs with restraints are intended for children from 1 year old. (See detailed articles on the topic: eye care, how to clean the baby’s nose and the article: caring for the baby’s ears)

In the morning, the umbilical wound must be treated. To do this, with a clean pipette, drip a few drops of hydrogen peroxide into the wound. The peroxide begins to foam, separating the crusts and “bringing” them to the surface. We remove these crusts with a clean cotton swab, and then apply brilliant green to the wound with another stick (details on the treatment of the umbilical wound).

      Changing a diaper

Most modern mothers prefer to use disposable diapers. A baby has to change a disposable diaper about 10 times a day: the child should not be in one diaper for more than 3-4 hours, and besides, you need to change the diaper every time the baby has pooped. The second point, moreover, must be performed even at night, because the feces are not absorbed by the diaper and irritate the skin.

Wash your baby before changing a diaper. If he crap one’s pants – with soap, if not – with warm tap water (if it is not possible to wash it – wipe it with wet wipes). If there is irritation, you can apply a diaper cream on the skin, if not, just let the skin dry.

Be sure to take care of the umbilical wound and make sure that the diaper fastener does not rub it. There are special diapers for newborns who have a notch in place of the navel. If you use others, fold the edge of the diaper or cover your navel with a piece of sterile bandage.

      Let’s go for a walk

If the child is healthy, you can walk with him from the first day of life. Regarding children’s walks, the rule “nature has no bad weather” is true. You can cancel a walk only if there is severe frost, abnormal heat or other extreme weather conditions outside. In bad weather, you can take the cradle with the baby to the balcony.

Babies usually sleep in the stroller, so the mother can choose the time for a walk at her own discretion. It is better to start walking from 30-40 minutes, gradually increasing the time of the walk. Over time, you can walk up to 4-6 hours a day, dividing this time into 2 “sets”.

The most important thing is to dress your baby according to the weather, take wet wipes, a changeable diaper and a rain cover for the stroller.

      We feed

If there are no contraindications, the child should only be breastfed. WHO recommends exclusively breast milk up to 6 months, which means that even water should not be given until this age, not to mention juices and fruit purees.

Feed the baby on demand. This means that for any crying and anxiety, the mother offers the baby a breast. The baby can stay at the breast until it releases itself. It is not worth interfering in this process and trying to regulate the sucking time: nature and instincts are “smarter” than our mind, the child himself knows how much and how often he needs to suckle.

      Bath procedures

Bathe your baby every day. The temperature of the water for bathing should be about 37 degrees, but here it is better to focus on the child: someone behaves calmer in cooler water, someone in warmer water.

Boiling water for bathing, as was done in the past, is now not recommended, but until the umbilical wound has healed, it is better to add manganese to the water – it acts as an antiseptic. The potassium permanganate solution should be pale pink. After the wound has healed, if there are skin problems, you can bathe the baby in herbs.

For newborns, it is better to use a small bath. For the first baths, you can wrap the baby in a diaper so that he is not scared of the water. You can wash your child with soap and other products 2-3 times a week, and the rest of the time you can do with water. When bathing, do not forget to wash your hair. At the end of bathing for hardening, you can pour cool water over the baby’s legs.

After bathing, the baby should be well wrapped in a warm diaper or towel. The head also needs to be covered.

      Details: how to bathe newborns

      After bathing

After bathing, you also need to carry out some procedures:

      • Treat the umbilical wound in the same way as we did in the morning.
      • Trim nails while they are soft with water.
      • Wipe all wrinkles with oil (including the area behind the ears – crusts often form there).

Watch a video of how the baby is bathed:

      Going to bed

Most breastfeeding babies fall asleep at the breast. You can rock the baby in your arms, and then carefully transfer it to the crib. The experience of mothers shows that it is better to swaddle babies for sleep: so their own movements do not cause them any concern, they are not afraid of their own arms or legs. By the way, it is better to buy a cradle for a newborn baby, not a crib. Limited space is more comfortable for a baby than a spacious bed that is not proportionate to his body.

The room must be ventilated before going to bed. It is believed that the optimal temperature for the room where the baby sleeps is about 20 degrees.

It is impossible to put the baby to sleep on his back – in a dream, the baby can burp and choke on vomit. To prevent the baby from rolling over on his back, laying him on his side, support his back with a small pillow or a folded blanket. The position of the sleeping baby should be periodically changed, shifting it from one side to the other. This is necessary so that the bones of the skull are not deformed.

      Reading on the topic:

      • How long does a newborn baby sleep during the day
      • How to put a child to sleep without tears and whims

Watching the video, it’s just brilliant! Nathan Dylo’s method of how to put a child to sleep:

The most popular questions that concern young mothers

A quivering young mother shudders at every sneeze of her baby and falls into confusion in front of many unfamiliar phenomena. Let’s try to deal with the most common questions of young mothers.

Odd color and dryness of the baby’s skin

The skin of a newly born baby may have a reddish, yellowish tint. The first is due to a very thin layer of subcutaneous fat: the red tint is the blood vessels that show through the skin. Yellowness (jaundice) is the result of an increased content of bilirubin and goes away when the liver begins to work more actively.

Dryness and flaking of the skin is also normal. In this way, the skin adapts to the new air environment. Usually peeling disappears a month after birth. You can speed up this process by lubricating the flaky areas with baby cream or oil (see article: Why do newborns have flaky skin on the head and body – what mom needs to know) .

Details: proper skin care for a newborn baby

      Baby hiccups

Many babies begin to hiccup in the stomach. Usually, hiccups in babies occur due to excess air that has entered the stomach during feeding. The best way to get rid of it is to scold the baby with a “column” and give a tummy massage ( article on hiccups and how to deal with it ).

      The child spit up

The regurgitation is a consequence of the underdevelopment of the digestive system and a special children’s mechanism of “fight” with overeating. As a preventative measure, make sure that the baby is properly latching onto the breast (so he does not swallow too much air), and keep him in a “column” after feeding. In general, regurgitation is not at all dangerous. Normally, once a day, a child can even burp with a “fountain”. If this happens more often and regurgitation lasts longer than 6 months, you should consult a neurologist ( see regurgitation article ).

      The child sneezes and coughs

If there are no signs of a cold (runny nose, high temperature) – these are natural self-cleansing reflexes of the body from mucus in the throat and nose.

      Important:

      • Child’s cough (how to treat)
      • Temperature (how to treat)
      • Runny nose (how to treat)

      How to dress your baby

The baby’s body is still bad at retaining heat and maintaining a constant temperature. This must be taken into account both at home and on the street. Excessively wrapped up, the child can easily be overheated, and leaving undressed – on the contrary, supercool. The main dressing rule for a toddler is to dress as you are + one layer of clothing.

Baby clothes should be made from natural fabrics, have a comfortable design and secure fasteners. It is best to choose blouses and overalls that can be easily put on without twisting the arms and legs of the child and without pushing the head into the narrow neck. All accessories (buttons, buttons) must be of high quality and securely sewn so that the little one cannot tear off and swallow a small piece of clothing.

How to know if a baby is warm

The temperature of the arms and legs does not mean anything in this matter, because they are often cool in babies due to poor thermoregulation. To understand if the child is warm, you need to touch his neck: if it is cool, it is better to dress the baby warmer.

Can I give my baby a pacifier?

If there are plans for successful and long-term breastfeeding, it is better not to, in any case, up to 6 months, until lactation is fully established. The nipple confuses the child, he begins to confuse the mother’s breast and its silicone substitute, and may refuse the breast altogether. In addition, there is an opinion that sucking a nipple has a bad effect on the formation of bite. We read on the topic: how to choose a pacifier and how to wean it from a pacifier

What to do if a child sucks his thumb?

Thumb sucking is a manifestation of the sucking reflex characteristic of infants. The first thing to do is to offer the baby a breast: he may be hungry. Thumb sucking can be a stress response: the baby sucks to calm down. In any case, this cannot be ignored. Try to understand the cause and eliminate it ( see how to wean a child from sucking fingers ).

Is it worth it to run to the child at the first cry and take him in your arms?

The answer is unambiguous – yes. Whatever the reason for crying, it cannot be ignored. A child may cry not only from hunger and physical discomfort. He may simply need his mother’s affection and warmth – this is the same vital need that must be satisfied ( see how to understand the reasons for the crying of a newborn baby ).

      How to deal with colic?

Prevention is always better than cure, therefore, as part of prevention, lay the baby on the tummy, do a gentle massage of the tummy, wear it in a “column” after eating. If the attack nevertheless began – give the medicine, attach something warm to the tummy (a heating pad, a diaper heated with an iron). In emergency cases, when nothing helps and the attack does not go away – put a gas outlet tube Important: how to save a child from colic.

How to deal with a child so as not to frighten him?

Newborn babies react very specifically to sounds: under the monotonous rumble of a vacuum cleaner, the baby can sleep peacefully, but sharp loud sounds scare the baby very much. It is absolutely not necessary to surround the baby with silence, but so that the child is not afraid, harsh sounds should be avoided.

In general, all movements and actions of the mother should be smooth. The baby can be very frightened if, when bathing, he is abruptly immersed in water, or if he is abruptly put on the changing table. Until the child has adapted, everything that surrounds him in the “big world” can cause anxiety, so caution is needed in everything.

Reading on the topic: What to do if your child is afraid of loud noises

What to do if diaper rash appears?

Almost all mothers face this trouble. Red crusts and severe irritation appear when the baby’s skin is in contact with moisture for a long time. Contrary to prejudice, diaper rash in a child appears much less frequently in disposable diapers than in diapers. If the diaper is not overfilled, moisture is absorbed into it quickly and the baby’s skin has almost no contact with it, so it is not worth abandoning the diaper in favor of diapers in case of diaper rash.

Irritated skin needs healing and hydration. It is not necessary to constantly wash the baby with soap with diaper rash: soap dries the skin a lot and only increases the feeling of discomfort. It is necessary to wash the baby with water, and then lubricate the irritated area with oil or a healing cream (Bepanten, Bübchen). Be sure to arrange air baths, that is, leave the baby just naked, without a diaper and a diaper. When bathing in the evening, you can use herbs (chamomile, string) – they also have a healing effect.

      Advice for dads

Read: Why are you tired? You are sitting at home! Or a memo to husbands who do not understand all the “charms” of maternity leave

The main advice for dads is to properly prepare for the meeting of his wife from the hospital. Flowers, balloons, and room decorations are great, but any mom will appreciate more if you free her from homework, which can accumulate a lot in a few days in the maternity hospital. After discharge from the maternity hospital, you want to get home as soon as possible in order to finally wash in your bath and lie on your bed, so that mountains of unwashed dishes and scattered things will not please your spouse at all. In addition, not all women are ready to flutter after childbirth. Most feel unimportant: weakness, pain from stitches, fatigue. This must be taken into account not only at the time of discharge, but also in general for the first time after the birth of the baby. To get into the rhythm and start coping with the child and household chores, a young mother needs time.

Caring for a newborn only at first glance seems to be something very complicated. Within a month, any mother does all the manipulations “with her eyes closed” and, by the intonation of crying, she understands that her beloved child is worried. The most important thing in caring for a baby is to do everything with love and “get involved” in the life of a little man as much as possible. It is this, and not “mechanical” care, that makes the child happy, calm and healthy.

Basic tips for caring for a newborn “Persona Childhood”

Specially for our readers, a pediatric neonatologist of the highest category, deputy chief physician for pediatrics at the Persona clinic, S. I. Kapustina, told several important rules for caring for newborns.

When caring for a newborn child, one must remember that his skin is very delicate, and various inflammations easily occur on it, and even slight friction can injure the skin.

A baby’s day should start with a morning toilet. First, it is recommended to drip into both nasal passages any preparation of sterile sea water, 1 drop or 1 injection. As you treat the eyes and skin, the contents of the nose will soften and be easier to remove. Eyes are treated with boiled water or freshly brewed tea using a cotton pad. Each eye is wiped with a separate disk from the outer corner to the inner. Face is washed with boiled water. Ears are cleaned with a Q-tip dipped in oil (Vaseline, Peach or Baby) from the outside only. A stick cannot be inserted into the ear canal, and it does not require cleaning. Nose is cleaned with cotton turundas, which are screwed into the nasal passage and then removed from there. In this case, the head must be held with the free hand, placing it under the back of the head.

After washing the face , all the folds of the body , knee and elbow bends, hands are processed with a cotton pad soaked in oil. Special attention should be paid to the treatment of the external genital organs. In boys, the foreskin is not retracted, and the skin around its opening is treated with oil. In girls, it is necessary to carefully process the fold between the large and small labia. This is also done with a cotton pad with oil.

During the day it is necessary to wash the baby after each stool with running water at a temperature of 37-38 degrees. Before placing your baby under running water, always check the temperature with your hand to prevent burns. For washing, use baby liquid soap. After washing, blot the skin with a diaper or soft towel and apply diaper cream, it will protect the baby’s skin from the irritating effects of urine and feces. You can use wet baby wipes between washes.

Bathing in the evening. Bathe the baby daily before feeding. The water in the bath should be 37-38 degrees (checked with a special thermometer). In the first 2 weeks of life, bathing is carried out in boiled water with the addition of a solution (by no means crystals) of potassium permanganate to a pale pink color of the water. 2-3 times a week when bathing, soap or bathing agent is used and the baby’s head is washed.

The child is immersed slowly in water and the skin and all the folds are washed with a hand or a soft mitt, after which shampoo is taken (no more than 1 tsp) and foamed on the head, then the soap is washed off the head from the jug, water is poured on the forehead (try not to get it on the face, it can scare the baby). In conclusion, the child is raised above the bath and doused from a jug. Gradually, the temperature of the water for dousing may become lower than the water in the bath. After bathing, the umbilical wound is treated with solutions of 3% hydrogen peroxide and an alcohol solution of brilliant green using cotton swabs. Next, skin folds and the nasal cavity are processed as described above.

Quite often, in the first weeks and months of a child’s life, parents are confused and do not understand how best to organize his life. At such moments, a competent, knowledgeable, experienced assistant is very necessary, who will tell you how to overcome the difficulties that have arisen and answer all questions. A pediatrician should become such an assistant, observing the child from the very first days, knowing and loving him.

Therefore, in the children’s department of the Persona clinic, we tried to create the most comfortable conditions for mothers and babies. Before the birth of a child, future parents can get a lot of useful information from experienced doctors and specialists in the Happy Motherhood cycle at the School of Future Parents of the Persona Clinic.

However, a lot of questions arise when the baby is already born. In this situation, the doctors of the children’s department of the clinic “Persona” are always ready to help you. Patronage programs are compiled individually for each little patient. Thanks to this, the pediatrician and other doctors have the opportunity to pay maximum attention to the baby and his parents. The doctor will be constantly in touch with you, so at any time he will be able to answer all your questions related to nutrition, vaccination, treatment, hygiene of the child. An important advantage of patronage is also the fact that all examinations, examinations, vaccinations are carried out at home – in a familiar environment for the child.

The observation schedule for patronage programs fully complies with the state standard , but at the request of the parents, it can be adjusted so that specialists can examine the baby more often. There are several patronage programs that differ in organization and price, so that everyone can choose the appropriate option for themselves.

ICYMI: What Virginians Are Reading about Kaine’s Child Care for Working Families Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, along with Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Representative Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA-03), introduced the Child Care for Working Families Act, comprehensive legislation to tackle the child care crisis and help ensure families across America can find and afford the high-quality child care they need. In Virginia, most families pay over $15,000 for infant care.

“I hear about the child care crisis everywhere I go in Virginia. Parents in every community are being locked out of the workforce because they can’t find affordable care for their kids, while critical workers who are passionate about child care are getting squeezed out of their field because of low wages. This issue is holding our families, workers, and economy back and it’s time for Congress to do more to address it,” said Kaine. “I’m proud to be fighting alongside Senator Murray and Congressman Scott for our legislation to help ensure that every family in America can get the child care they need. This bill will make child care more accessible and affordable, boost wages for child care workers, and put us on a path to universal pre-K.”

Virginian Pilot: Rep. Bobby Scott, Sen. Tim Kaine help reignite effort to overhaul child care for working families

Child care. Those two words continue to evoke a flurry of emotions for families everywhere, but especially working families.

In an effort to help quell some of the frustration and angst associated with child care, Sen. Tim Kaine and Rep. Bobby Scott backed reintroducing the Child Care for Working Families Act in Congress on April 27.

      […]

During a news conference on April 27, the Democrat lawmakers said one aim of the bill is that no working family would pay more than 7% of their income on child care.

The 2022 estimated median cost of infant center-based care reached more than $13,000 a year for Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Portsmouth, according to the U. S. Department of Labor’s National Database of Childcare Prices.

      […]

The bill also aims to dramatically expand access to preschool and supports full-day, full-year Head Start programs along with increasing wages for those staff, Murray said.

Kaine said he hears three things when he travels throughout Virginia: the cost of child care, the low wages paid to child care workers and the difficulties employers have hiring workers.

“There are millions of Americans who are out of work for just the one simple reason: They can’t find affordable child care,” he said. “They’re skilled, energetic, productive, and employers need them in industries of all kinds … But if they can’t find affordable child care, they’re not in the workforce.”

      […]

Jane Elyce Glasgow, executive director of Minus 9 to 5 and assistant professor of pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School, said the bill is a huge step in the right direction.

CBS19: Kaine helps reintroduce Child Care for Working Families Act

WASHINGTON (CBS19 NEWS) — The Child Care for Working Families Act, a piece of legislation that has been introduced in every Congress since 2017, was reintroduced again Thursday.

Senator Tim Kaine joined the reintroduction effort alongside 34 other co-sponsors.

The bill aims to make sure families across the country can find and afford child care, expand preschool programs, and raise wages for childcare workers.

Kaine, whose son is an early childhood educator, says many are leaving because of low pay.

“Nobody does child care to make money, but many stop doing it or never go into it because of money,” he said.

According to a release, the cost of child care has increased by 220 percent over the last three decades. Kaine says this bill will help ease that number and benefit the economy as more people enter the workforce.

FOX Richmond: Fox Richmond Morning News

U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, along with several other lawmakers is introducing a measure aimed at helping working families.

The bill’s intended to lower child care costs for families and raise wages for child care providers.

Kaine says the lack of affordable child care not only affects children and child care providers but employers as well because parents are being forced to leave the workforce to stay home with their kids.

Gray DC: Bill promises to lower childcare costs for families, increase pay for workers

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – As childcare centers across the nation have wait lists, staffing shortages, and rising costs, democratic Senators are reintroducing a bill that they believe will decrease the burden for families.

The Childcare for Working Families Act, backed by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Rep. Robert “Bobby” Scott (D-Va. ), would cap family expenditures at 7% of their income. Lawmakers said that would cut costs to around $10 or less a day for most parents.

The bill would also expand access to Pre-K and Head Start programs in addition to increasing worker wages.

      […]

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) is a co-sponsor of the bill. When asked if he thought Republicans would support it, he said “employers are saying ‘we can’t hire people. Unemployment rate is historically low. We can’t hire people.’ Well, one of the reasons is that you’ve got millions of people out of the workforce simply for the reason that they can’t find high quality, affordable childcare. And if they could, they’d bring their skills into the workforce. The economy would be more productive. These employers would have great workers. So I know my Republican colleagues are hearing the very same thing.”

Kaine added, most families want high quality workers to staff their daycares. Yet he said many childcare workers can’t make a living wage. Murray said her bill provides a solution for those workers.

      […]

WAVY: Kaine promotes proposal for affordable, accessible childcare

VIRGINA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – During a visit to Naval Air Station Oceana this morning, Sen. Tim Kaine championed proposed legislation to make childcare more affordable for low- and middle-income families.

The Child Care for Working Families Act “would help ensure families can find and afford the child care they need, dramatically expand access to high-quality preschool programs, and boost wages for early childhood workers,” according to Kaine’s office.

      […]

“That would be enormously beneficial to (a) low- to moderate-income family,” Kaine said.

Kaine said that the plan would also provide funds to childcare centers, which, he said, will result in higher wages for childcare providers.

He said that freeing up parents to leave the home and work would ameliorate workforce issues.

WDBJ: WATCH: Senator Kaine, others lawmakers introduce Child Care for Working Families Act

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Thursday, US Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) joined US Senator Patty Murray (D-Washington) and other lawmakers to introduce legislation aimed at supporting child care for working families.

As a member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Kaine participated in an afternoon news conference to explain the bill.

According to a statement from Kaine’s office, the bill is intended to lower child care costs for families and raise wages for child care providers.

During the press conference, Kaine said the lack of child care not only affects children and child care providers, but employers also.

“There are millions of Americans who are out of work for just the one simple reason they can’t find affordable childcare,” Kaine said. “They’re skilled, they’re energetic, they’re productive. Employers need him in industries of all kinds and communities of all kinds.”

WDVM: DC News Now @ 9 PM

All new tonight: pay for day care or live off of one income. That is a dilemma so many households know all too well.

It’s why Virginia Senator Tim Kaine is pushing for legislation that would make child care more affordable for low- and average-income families. Kaine says the child care crisis is crippling the labor market.

“If somebody is doing their job, but they’re sort of not 100% sure that their kids are in a safe place that day, part of their mind is going to be on that instead of their job.”

Kaine is reintroducing the Child Care for Working Families Act. It aims to ease the burden on families by capping a family’s expenses of child care at 7% of their income. If families cannot find child care at that price, they’d be given subsidies to go to a federal program.

WSLS: Lawmakers introduce Child Care for Working Families Act

VIRGINIA – As working parents and child care facilities struggle nationwide, national lawmakers are hoping to fix some of today’s biggest challenges in the industry.

Whether that’s making child care affordable, expanding options, and supporting higher wages for child care workers.

On Thursday, lawmakers introduced the Child Care for Working Families Act, something they say is sorely needed.

U.S. Senator Tim Kaine is a co-sponsor of the bill.

“Infant care in Virginia averages about $15,000 per infant, a little bit cheaper for older kids, but so many families can’t afford it,” Kaine said. “Even if they could they can’t find it because they live in parts of the state where we don’t have providers especially after COVID.”

The proposal would cap child care costs for families to no more than seven percent of their income.

WVEC: Working to improve availability and affordability of child care in U.S.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — When it comes to child care, there is a national security component. If troops are worried about their kids, they’re not focused on their mission. With more than 76,000 children enrolled, the Department of Defense operates the largest employer-sponsored childcare program in the U.S. But accessibility and affordability remain challenges for them, according to a recent Government Accountability Office report.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) met Monday with Navy parents at Naval Air Station Oceana whose children are enrolled in Navy child care. They’re very pleased, but they spoke about what it was like when they were on the waiting list, which today at stands 1,400.

“One of the sailors said, ‘I have to be really good at my job. If part of my mind is on, I don’t think my kid is in a safe place today, I’m not focused on my job,'” he said.

Kaine believes his “Child Care for Working Families Act” can help.

      […]

Improving civilian child care would give military families more options.

“There is no one answer to this. What you need to do is expand child development centers on bases, but also provide more resources for child care in the community,” he said.

WVIR: Senator Kaine leading legislative push for cheaper child care

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Virginia Senator Tim Kaine pushing a new plan for cheaper child care to help working parents.

The Child Care for Working Families Act would lower child care costs for families and also raise wages for child care providers.

Kaine says this bill has an economic layer to it too, as he thinks more people would be willing to go back to work if they could afford child care.

“We would guarantee that no family would pay more than 7% of its income for childcare. And so if you if you get childcare, and it costs more than that, we would cover that difference so that no one would have to pay more than 7%, and that would be a huge benefit,” he said.

WVNS: Senator Kaine speaks about the Child Care for Working Families Act

RICHMOND, VA (WVNS) — Recently, Senator Tim Kaine spoke about the Child Care for Working Families Act, which combats the childcare crisis and ensures families can find and afford the child care they need.

If the legislation passes, according to kaine.senate.gov, families would be able to afford child care, have more options to high-quality child care, and help childcare workers get paid better livable wages for their hard work.

“In this bill, we would guarantee that no family would pay more than seven percent of its income for child care. If you get child care and it costs more than that, we would cover that difference so that no one would have to pay more than seven percent,” said Senator Kaine.

Well, a new bill before Congress may help working families. Listen to this.

U.S. Senator and former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, along with several other lawmakers, introduced a measure this week. The bill is intended to lower child care costs for families and raise wages for child care providers.

Now, Kaine says the lack of affordable child care not only affects children and child care providers but employers also because parents are being forced to leave the workforce to stay home with their kids.

Nestled in the picturesque Red Desert region of southern Arizona, Tucson is an enchanting oasis with a mixture of cultural roots. Here you can see a rich heritage that combines the culture of American Indian, Spanish, Mexican and Anglo-American influences that have been indelibly intertwined over the years.
In its day as a Spanish outpost, Tucson has kept this part of its history more prominent in El Presidio, the downtown historic district.

La Casa Córdoba is a model of an old Spanish house that once belonged to a wealthy Spanish businessman. The building is accessible through the Tucson Museum of Art, which has a collection of works from ancient times to modern art and highlights the relationship of art to life.
While exploring the inner city, you can visit two former residences, the Stevens House and the Fish House, now functioning as a museum, focusing on the life of the local elite in the mid-nineteenth century.

The Air and Space Museum is the largest privately funded aerospace museum in the world, tracing the evolution of air transport over the last century. The museum has over 250 examples, dating back to the first aircraft ever built.
Just minutes from the city center is Old Tucson Studios, offering traditional Old West entertainment in the form of shows, rides and shops that have played a role in shaping the Old West world.

      DIVERSITY / INCLUSION

Jowonio accepts students with a wide range of backgrounds, skills, and learning needs. We believe that children benefit from engagement with peers who bring a variety of interests and talents to the interaction. Teachers emphasize social inclusion as they plan and work to build a sense of community and social problem-solving.

      WHOLE CHILD CURRICULUM

Using a combination of relationship, play-based, and experiential approaches, Jowonio teachers provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is adapted to meet the needs and interests of all students. We focus on the whole child, addressing all learning domains and styles of learning, with a particular focus on intentionally teaching social interaction and problem-solving skills. The daily schedule in each classroom is designed to include a balance of child-initiated and adult-directed activities throughout the day. The curriculum also incorporates many opportunities to celebrate creative expression through art, music and dance; the school layout includes multiple indoor and outdoor spaces for movement as well as an art studio and a library.

      TEAM APPROACH

Jowonio is deeply committed to a team-based approach that includes a strong partnership with parents. Classroom teams include teachers, assistants, aides and support staff such as speech, occupational and physical therapists, and social workers. On-going mentoring, coaching and collaborative problem-solving is provided by experienced support teachers. We have a school-wide commitment to regular meeting times for planning and clinical discussions. In addition we have opportunities for parents to volunteer and engage with staff in two-way communication, through our website, e-mails, parent conferences, and/or home visits. Social workers offer individualized family support through respite, support and instructional groups, access to community resources, and crisis assistance.

“Jowonio is an amazingly profound and magical experience. It’s truly a family and we are so proud to have our children there.”

“I am extremely sad to be leaving this school. Everyone at Jowonio has been so kind and helpful. This has been the best experience I could have hoped for.”

“What a extraordinary place for a child to grow, play and learn. The staff is loving, patient and will always go the extra mile for our children and our families. Thank you all for all that you do!”

“We have been so impressed with the collaboration of everyone who has worked with our kids. The dedication, compassion and knowledge they bring into the classroom everyday is evident in the growth we have seen with each of our kids.”

“Jowonio is like family to us. We value it 100%. We truly believe this institution creates great outcome!”

“My son loves his teachers and class! I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place for his preschool years!”

      Syracuse and Gems of Ghibla

Being an hour away from Sicily and not visiting Archimedes is no good. Is that why the second popular day trip route from Malta is built around Syracuse?

As with the trip to Tarmina and Mount Etna, the journey starts from Pozzallo. This is a small fishing village and at the same time a port where a catamaran arrives from Malta. From there, a comfortable tourist bus goes straight to Syracuse.

What associations does anyone have with this ancient city? Well, Archimedes (as well as the legendary bathtub and lever) – this is understandable. We present one more song for service – a poignant (everything ingenious is simple) song “Syracuse” by the French chansonnier Henri Salvador. It contains the following lines:

      While I am young,
While my springs make me happy,
I would like to see Syracuse,
      To remember them in Paris.

In general, we got in the right mood on the way, right?

Syracuse is first and foremost the center of ancient Greek culture: they say that there were once more Greeks in Sicily (part of the so-called Magna Graecia) than in Greece itself. It is the city of the scientist Archimedes, the playwright Aeschylus and the poet Pindar. The philosopher Plato also lived here and wrote off the model of a utopian community from Syracuse. It is also one of the centers of Christianity, embodied primarily in the most magnificent cathedral (Duomo), which is located in the most modern district of the city of Ortigia and which was built on the site of the ancient Greek temple of Athena, which occupied a dominant position in the area. It contains part of the relics (left hand) of one of the most revered early Christian saints – the virgin and martyr Lucy of Syracuse.

After the spectacle, it’s time for bread: you will be offered a lunch of typical Sicilian dishes (included in the price of the tour) in the agro-tourist complex. Since there are only two types of food in Sicily, “good” and “very good”, hurry up and enjoy!

Have you eaten? Now you can go to the resort town of Marina di Ragusa, where there will be time to swim. The road passes through the outskirts of Giblai – one of the mountain ranges of Sicily.

From paradise for the body (oh, how refreshing swimming in the sea!) we are finally going to paradise for the eyes and… the stomach. We mean the city of Modica, which is known not only for its perfect baroque architecture, but also for chocolate, which is still produced according to the Aztec recipe (yes, this is not the usual chocolate we are used to). And so, with the tiles of this heavenly pleasure, you can have time to admire the world-famous Cathedral of San Giorgio.

You will have free time for lunch (not included in the price), after which the group will go to Marzamemi. We will visit the colorful fishing village and the Campisi company, famous for its Sicilian delicacies. Campisi is a leading producer of fish products: caviar, raw tuna (bottarga), red tuna, traditional Sicilian sauces, the famous Pacino tomatoes grown in this part of Sicily.

      AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

      We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

      SCHOOL-READY

      What Learning Looks Like

Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.

      Maplewood KinderCare Programs

      Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
      ready to explore their world.

      Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

      Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

      Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
      kindergarten!

      Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Before- and After-School Programs (5–12 Years)

You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!

School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

      Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

      Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)

In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!

      Music Explorers™ (2 – 4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

      Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

      Our Teachers

We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!

      A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH

      An Artist’s Heart

“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.

We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.

      Garage bars.

Or an idea for a business

      Prim.News

The beer business is different from other ways to make money. For many, it starts with a passion, a hobby. First of all, this can be said about craft brewing. But opening a bar can also be a matter of “for the soul.” A new hobby has captured the residents of the American village of Maplewood in New Jersey – garage bars.

      ©Prim.News

      Fight for privacy

      Video of the day

Maplewood is a quiet place where young families move from Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn. The concept of “young family” in America is somewhat different from ours. These are mostly people in their 30s and 40s. But, after the birth of children, they face the same problems as we do: a small apartment, placement of kids in a kindergarten, bad ecology and other “charms” of the metropolis. Moving to a “one-story” suburb solves many problems with raising children, but there is a problem with the leisure of parents. Nightlife in such towns is not seething.

John Garbarino, who bought a house in Maplewood, decided not to put a car in his huge garage, but to organize a kind of lounge here – a place where you can drink beer with friends, and even make some noise when the children in the house are already sleeping.

The owner started by buying a beer cooler and a TV. Then there was a homemade bar counter, a fireplace and used church pews. Friends joined in the arrangement of the premises, and began to bring unnecessary furnishings from home. Interior decorations were typical male fetishes, like the T-shirt of your favorite football player. Soon, John’s personal space turned into a favorite gathering place for men from all over the area.

And after some time, a neighbor wanted to get the same bar. Then another, and another…

      Garage bar

John named his place GarBar – a garage bar. And despite the obvious reference to the name of Garbarino, and the fact that each Maplewood garage bar has its own name, this word has become a household name. A whole movement has sprung up on Facebook, whose members create their own “garbars”, take pictures of the process and post the photos online.

All garage bars are the same and all are different. Almost all of them have a bar counter and a couple of beer taps. But each reflects the character, tastes, hobbies of its owner.

Are you wondering if Garbarino’s friends and imitators are his competitors? By no means! John does not make money on draft beer at all. His startup is helping in the development of design and arrangement of garage bars for those who wish. Here is such an unexpected “beer business” under the slogan “No cars, only bars!”

      What about us?

Relentless statistics assert that beer consumption in Russia is declining. In order for an establishment that serves beer to be competitive and make a profit, it must be different from others, have its own face, a unique concept. We do not call for blindly copying the “foreign” format for our bar. Moreover, the American culture of beer drinking differs from ours, like California from Kamchatka.

Rates for in home child care: How much to charge for child care

How much to charge for child care

Are you considering starting a career in child care but you’re not sure what you should charge? Or maybe you’ve been a child care provider for awhile and feel like you should be making more? Asking for or accepting a lower rate may land you the new job, but (of course) you also want to make a fair wage that you can live on. So when determining your pay, it’s important to know what your child care services are worth.

Pay rates for child care providers can vary significantly due to a number of factors: job type and expectations, your experience, number of children, your location and more. But there are definitely some pay ranges that are standard for each type of child care job. We did some research (so you don’t have to), and here’s what other caregivers are getting paid.

      Pay rate by job type

      Babysitters

Setting babysitting rates can be a challenge since you don’t always get to communicate with other sitters to compare notes. The good news is there’s some good, hard data on this.

According to the Care.com 2022 Cost of Care Survey, which used payment data from over 3,000 parents across the country, parents paid after-school babysitters — working about three hours a day, or a total of 15 hours per week — an average of $17.40 per hour (or $261 per week).

This rate can fluctuate depending on your skill level, education and experience, as well as the number of children who need care. The most notable factor, though, is the city and state you live in. For example, in Seattle, Washington, the going rate for sitter averages $20.00 per hour, but in San Antonio, Texas, it averages $14.00 per hour, according to the Care.com babysitting rates calculator.

Aside from the location, what’s going to make you a little more dough? Education and training. Having an early childhood education degree or credits or training courses and certifications, including infant care certification, water safety certification and special needs care, can help boost your career — and hopefully your pay rate, too!

It’s important to note that you should be paid fairly. At the very least, you should make above the federal minimum wage ($7.25 per hour, as of August 2022) and above your state, city or county’s minimum wage, which may be even higher.

Nannies provide personalized care, usually full time and in the family’s home. That may be why they’re among the highest paid child care providers.

Nannies caring for one infant and working 40 hours per week made an average of $17.35 per hour (or $694 per week), according to the Care.com 2022 Cost of Care Survey. This means that full-time nannies can potentially make an average of about $36,088 per year, depending on the paid time off situation.

In general, a nanny caring for more than one child can expect to earn a little more than a nanny who’s in charge of just one kid. Experience and job expectations can play a factor in rates, too, as well as location. Currently, in Los Angeles, a full-time nanny earns an average of $21. 00 per hour, and in Orlando, Florida, they average $15.50 per hour, according to current nanny pay rates for top cities via Care.com.

      Child care workers and administrators

Interested in a day care job? According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2021, child care workers earned an average annual income of $27,680 — which boiled down to an average rate of $13.31 an hour. For child care administrators at preschools and day care centers, however, the average was at lot higher at an annual income of $53,800, or $25.87 per hour.

      Nursery or preschool teachers

Nursery or preschool teachers’ salaries can depend significantly on their location, type of degree and the school’s set rates.

That said, the Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that preschool teachers (with the exception of special education teachers) earned an average annual income of about $36,460 in 2021 — at an average rate of $17. 53 per hour. Nursery and preschool teachers can often boost their annual salaries by moving over to a private preschool, which usually has the means to offer better pay, or getting trained and certified to work with children with special needs. Special education teachers at the preschool level made $71,970 in 2021, or about $34.60 per hour for full-time, year-round positions.

Factors that will influence your pay rate

Reminder: The above rates are just averages, generalizations and general guidelines. You’re not going to make exactly what another child care provider does — and for a variety of different reasons. Just going from the suburbs to the city could mean a sitter makes up to double or even triple the pay. And of course, nannies and day care teachers with 10 years of experience are going to earn more than a newbie does.

Keep all the factors of your employment, your experience and your job expectations in mind when setting your rates. Here are some of the most important ones to consider.

      Geographical location

As mentioned above, different cities have different costs of living (e. g., cost of food, housing, etc.). This means child care professionals may have to charge different pay rates so that they can cover their basic expenses — and, ideally, still make a profit afterward. For example, a babysitter living and working in a rural area will probably charge less than a babysitter who lives and works in a huge city.

If you’d like to find out what other child care providers are charging in your neck of the woods, check out our handy rates calculator.

      Job requirements

Another factor that should influence your rates is the type of care a family expects you to provide. This includes the number of children they want you to care for, the number of hours they expect you to work and the time of day that they want you to be “on duty.”

If a family expects you to perform additional services outside of the traditional realm of “child care duties” — such as housekeeping, pet care, tutoring or providing overnight care — that can also justify a higher rate.

So if you want to make more money, consider offering additional services that you’d be willing to perform. This strategy will enhance your “value-add” for prospective families and could even increase your likelihood of landing a job.

      Level of skill and experience

Many families prefer to hire child care providers who have previous child care experience. Some look for certification in child development or a degree in early childhood education. Other families want a caregiver who speaks a second language or who has specialized experience — whether it’s caring for multiple children, children with ADHD or newborns.

Moral of the story: When setting your rates, take into account your previous work experience, your skills and any certifications and training you’ve received, as well as your education level. And don’t forget to list all of them in your online job profile and resume, so families can see what makes you worth your rates.

      Benefits

Full-time household employees (e. g., nannies) should ask hiring families if they’d consider providing them with benefits like health insurance, paid time off and more. These benefits are often built into their salary and may be broken down into monthly or weekly rates.

Final tips for setting your child care rates

By this point, you’ve familiarized yourself with the national averages for different types of child care jobs, you’ve scoped out your competition’s rates and you’ve figured out how much your skills and experience are worth. But you have a little more work to do in order to set your rate.

Ask yourself these final questions to make sure you’ve accounted for everything:

      • How far do you have to commute for the job?
      • How many children are you being asked to care for?
      • Are you caring for kids overnight?
      • Are you being offered benefits such as health and dental insurance, 401(k) and paid time off?
      • Have you accounted for your added value services (e. g., more education or certifications, increased experience, etc.)?
      • Do you know how much tax you’ll have to pay and whether or not it will be withheld from your paycheck?
      • Does this job fit your budget needs and will you bring home enough money every month to cover all your expenses?

Starting with what you need to make — and then breaking down what your services are worth — will help you find your pay “sweet spot.” That rate should be enough to cover your monthly expenses, pay your taxes and still have some fun with friends and family.

Average Cost of Child Care 2023

When planning for a baby, there are a number of costs that parents should take into consideration before their bundle of joy arrives. Child care is often the most expensive line item.

Access to reliable child care is essential for families who rely on this support in order to be able to work full-time jobs, attend school or fulfill their other responsibilities. This need was especially evident throughout the pandemic when parents, predominantly mothers, left the workforce in droves as schools, daycares and child care centers shut down or transitioned to remote models. Many women are still recovering from the financial impact.

Despite the need for child care, costs continue to rise for families across the country. In fact, a recent report by the organization ChildCare Aware of America found that child care costs are outpacing inflation by more than 3 percent. This, paired with higher costs of everyday goods like groceries, gas and housing, is making child care significantly less accessible, particularly for lower-earning families.

The cost of child care in various settings

The amount you can expect to pay for child care will vary greatly depending on the setting. Some parents might prefer to keep their child at home with a nanny, while others may want to take their child to a daycare center. Some parents may not need full-time care and opt for an after-school care program that gives them the extra time they need to get through their work day.

Here’s a look at the average cost of child care depending on the type of care you seek. These figures are based on the 2021 costs for infant children (with the exception of after-school care costs):

Number of children Average cost, child care center Average cost, nanny/sitter Average cost, home child care (family care) Average cost, after-school care
      1 $226 $694 $221 $261
      2 $429 $715 $420 $269

It’s also important to note that the amount you pay will also change depending on the number of children you have, as well as their ages. In most cases, you can expect to pay more for a delicate infant who requires more hands-on attention than you would for an elementary-aged child who is more independent.

With such a wide range of costs, it’s important to weigh your options and determine which environment will best meet you and your family’s needs.

Reliable care and regular hours Caregivers caring for multiple children at the same time
Opportunity for children to socialize with other children in the same age group Exposure to more illnesses in a group setting
Staff members often trained in early childhood education Often strict pick-up and drop-off times that may not work with your work schedule
Daycare centers are licensed and regulated, ensuring ample supervision and quality care Typically closed during major holidays

      Home/family care

      Pros Cons
Usually less expensive than other child care options Can be unreliable if the caretaker gets sick or takes time off
Often a more comforting and nurturing environment Your child may be exposed to more illnesses in a group setting
Typically smaller groups of children Potential lack of formal childhood education background among home daycare providers
Opportunity for children to socialize with other children in the same age group Fewer licensing requirements
Often more flexible pick-up and drop-off times Many closed for holidays and vacations

      Nanny/sitter

      Pros Cons

No need to commute to a daycare center Zero supervision
Flexible hours Need for planned activities so your child can socialize with others in their age group
A setting more familiar to your child Can be unreliable if your nanny becomes sick, goes on vacation or quits unexpectedly
Child care available if your child gets sick Can involve a great deal of legal paperwork

      After-school care

      Pros Cons
Defined curriculums and planned enrichment activities for your children Only open during the school year, for school-aged children
Often an affordable option Possibly overwhelming number of hours for your child to spend at school
Boosts social skills Interrupts unstructured play time
Licensed and regulated Can blur lines for parents and make it harder to establish a hard stop time at work
On school property, meaning you can skip a commute May not be an option for all of your children if they vary in age

The state of child care today

Child care costs have been on the rise for decades. This is due, in part, to facility closures that occurred during the pandemic. Nearly 9,000 daycares closed in 37 states between December 2019 and March 2021, according to findings from a 2022 survey by ChildCare Aware.

Even more pressing these days is the impact of inflation. As noted above, child care costs are outpacing inflation by several percentage points. At the same time, families’ wallets are being squeezed by higher costs for everyday expenses like groceries, gas and housing. Especially for lower-earning families, a lack of wiggle room in household budgets is making child care significantly less accessible than before.

How parents and guardians are managing the costs

For many parents, coping with rising costs has been challenging. As a result, many have considered alternative options or made bigger lifestyle changes to make ends meet. According to a survey by Care.com, 31 percent of parents say they have considered taking on a second job, while 26 percent say they will reduce their work hours. Further, roughly one-quarter of respondents are changing jobs to better support their childcare needs, and more than 20 percent say they plan to leave the workforce altogether.

If you’re looking for a starting point to help you determine how much you can expect to pay for child care in your area, Care.com and CostofChildCare.org both provide useful calculators that can crunch the numbers for you based on your preferences and needs.

6 ways to lower the costs of child care

If you’re struggling to meet your child care costs, consider the following options for reducing your financial burden.

      • Reach out to your employer: Some employers offer child care assistance as an added benefit for their employees. Revisit your employee benefits package, or contact your HR representative to see if this is an option for you.
      • See if you qualify for a tax break: Per the IRS, you may be able to claim the child and dependent care credit if you paid expenses for the care of a qualifying individual to enable you (and your spouse, if filing a joint return) to work or actively look for work. This could help offset your care costs for this year or next.
      • Check your flexible-spending account (FSA): FSAs are sometimes a part of an employee’s benefits package, and certain types can be used to offset child care expenses. You or your spouse can fund a dependent care flex spending account (DCFSA or FSA) and use those funds to reimburse your child care costs.
      • Ask about a sibling discount: Many child care providers will offer a discount for additional children after your first. Taking all of your little ones to the same daycare or sitter can help you cut down on your commute and could score you a discount.
      • Consider using a credit card: If you’re in a pinch, a credit card could help you cover the cost of child care, but this should be done cautiously. Aim to make at least the minimum payment each month, and pay your balance in full if possible. You may also want to look at whether paying your child care costs with a credit card can help you take advantage of your credit card rewards.
      • Coordinate a nanny share with other parents: Sharing one care provider may be less costly than hiring a private nanny to watch over your children. Ask friends, family or neighbors if they’re open to splitting the costs of a shared nanny.

      The bottom line

Child care costs can put a significant financial strain on a family — especially for today’s parents, who are up against a staggering inflation rate and are still battling the economic aftermath of the pandemic.

The exact amount you can expect to pay will vary greatly depending on your location, the number of children you have, their ages and the kind of care you seek. Still, there are plenty of ways you can reduce the cost of child care and make it manageable for you and your wallet.

      Our principles

      Choosing reliable babysitters

We check passports, phones, mails and social networks of every babysitter/nanny. We train most of the babysitters at the Kidsout school. All babysitters / nannies undergo a personal interview with experienced psychologists.

      We are responsible

We trust our nannies/babysitters, so all children under their care are insured.

      Quality Assurance

We monitor the performance of each order by our babysitters/nannies, monitor their rating and check parental feedback. If a babysitter or nanny violates the rules for looking after a child, then we exclude him from our database.

      Babysitter can

      • Babysitting while you are away
      • Take the child to classes, to the tutor, to the sports section
      • Taking a child home from school or kindergarten
      • Help with children at a birthday, family holiday
      • Distract the child while you are doing household chores
      • Entertain a child at a mall or sports center while you are busy
      • Take the child to grandmothers or other relatives
      • Play football with a child, go to a museum or lecture

      Parents’ comments

Sasha, thank you for your responsiveness, kindness, and ability to find an approach to children! And thanks to the @kidsout_ru service for giving mothers truly important and necessary free time!

Yesterday, for the first time, children were left with a stranger. We were worried, of course, but everything went very well. I’ll tell you a little more. Yesterday my husband and I went to a fashion show for 4 hours. About a week ago I went to @kidsout_ru website, registered and chose a babysitter for my kids. There are criteria by which you can choose – (by age, by recommendations, by region, etc.). The cost of services is approximately 200-350 rubles per hour. And you still need to subscribe to the site (month 399 rubles). A very sweet, friendly, young girl Anya came to us. She immediately asked what we had and how, what to feed, where are the danger zones for children, where are the diapers for Maya, etc. The children were very pleased and even in the morning they began to ask when the nanny would come to them again to play with her. 😊
      Thank you @kidsout_ru service!
I recommend it to those who don’t have grandmothers nearby and have no one to leave their children with 👍

How to combine work and a child, provided that we don’t go to kindergarten yet? My mother was also leaving here for almost a month and I was completely alone with Nikita. The ex-husband really took Nikita to his place for 1.5 days once a week. But it still wasn’t easy. After all, it’s one thing when you’re with a child and you only have household chores, and it’s quite another when you are still working actively, studying and no one has canceled household chores either 🤪 Not easy, but possible! The service @kidsout_ru comes to my aid. Mostly students work there who like to spend time with children. And for a quite acceptable reward (about 300 rubles / hour) they sit with the children and do everything you ask.

How to do everything with two children and not burn out? 🔥
In the frantic pace of life of every active mother with children, there should always be, in my opinion, the main thing – self-care. And children are not a hindrance here🤷🏻‍♀ Be it a haircut, manicure, pedicure, dentist, in the end😅 It’s great when there are grandmothers who will come to the rescue, or a husband ☺️ but what if the grandmothers are far away, and the husband is at work late?🤦🏻‍♀ My restless nature has found a way out – a babysitter💡🤗 in our city there is @kidsout_ru – a super service of professional babysitters, where every mother can choose a babysitter suitable for you and your children according to her criteria👍🏻.

#little family got out to the center for a short time! Today I used @kidsout_ru #babysetter service and thanks to them I saw the light at the end of the tunnel! I can quite get out of the house for an hour or even three somewhere without children. Pictures flashed through my head: cinema, shopping, training, meeting with those who want to meet – there are only a few of them left. Yes, I am a mother cuckoo – I think that it is quite natural to take a break from children, and they should take a break from me!)

      Dear Kidsout! You are beautiful!
Yesterday our baby saw the girl Yana for the first time and for the next few hours from the nursery I heard only their general laughter. This is wonderful! People – enjoy! The local babysitters are burdened with only one thing – an interest in life. So they are good and happy.
