The Child Development Center is Expanding!
The construction phase of App State’s Child Development Center expansion is on schedule, set for completion in May 2022. Afterward, we will begin the process of setting up classrooms, hiring teachers, and enrolling children for the fall 2022 semester. The expansion will provide enrollment for an additional 54 children. There are over 145 children on our wait list and several of those are children with priority status. We follow a five-tier priority system when enrolling new students. We start with No. 1 and work our way to No. 5, then move to non-priority applicants when filling our enrollment slots. After the priority status children have been enrolled, the remaining spots will be filled beginning with the oldest active application.
For example, if we have enrollment slots open for 4 year olds, we will first fill spots with children who have priority status. Then, we will call the family with the oldest application date who has a four year old. If that family accepts the enrollment spot and also has a two year old, the two year old is now considered to have sibling priority status.
The nuance of our priority system does not allow us to create a traditional waitlist with numbered spots. It is also important to note that our enrollment system is meant to support student families first and foremost.
Child Development Center earns highest possible reaccreditation license
App State’s Child Development Center (CDC) received a Five Star Center License in its reaccreditation this spring semester from the N. C. Division of Child Development and Early Education — the highest possible and an increase from the center’s previous four-star license.
The five-star rating supports the university’s continued commitment to child care for students, faculty and staff and is “a good recognition of the passion and intentionality of our teachers and the teaching they provide our children,” CDC Director Moriah Stegall said.
Licensed child care facilities in North Carolina have ratings of one through five stars, according to the division’s website. One star means the facility meets minimum licensing requirements. A two-five star rating means the facility has voluntarily met higher program standards and staff education levels.
“The more you put into your center, the more stars you earn,” Stegall said.
The division awards points in these areas:
Quality.
Program standards.
Educational standards.
App State’s CDC maintained the highest possible rating in quality (1 point), as well as its previous rating for program standards (6 out of 7 possible points). The center improved in the area of staff educational standards — from 3 out of 7 possible points to 7 out of 7 possible points.
According to Stegall, the improved rating for staff educational standards is due to the center now employing more full-time SHRA employees as well as more teachers furthering their education — either through early childhood certification or other programs.
In addition, the center has improved its curriculum and purchased new books and classroom furniture, Stegall said.
The new license’s effective date was Feb. 9, 2021. The center’s previous license was awarded in 2018.

Child Development Center closed starting Monday, March 23
Sweet families,
The Teachers and I would like to thank you for your kindness and support this week as we navigate the COVID-19 situation. Your children’s health and well being has always, and will always remain, our topmost priority. It is with conflicted hearts that the University has determined the need to temporarily close the Child Development Center beginning on Monday, March 23rd. We will continue to provide updates on our plans for reopening the Center as they are available.
We understand that this creates a hardship for you and we will miss your children immensely. During the period that we are closed, teachers will maintain communication with you and your children. We are looking into virtual meetings and resources to engage with your child(ren) and offer support to you as families. Teachers will be reaching out to you later this week via email.
The University is determining what the prorated refund will be for each family based on the remainder of March’s prepaid care. We will be in touch with you shortly regarding your refund. We have also made a request to Payroll to stop payroll deduction for the April payments for all families enrolled in that program and we are waiting on confirmation that this will occur this pay period. We will invoice families for care in April once we know the operating schedule for the Center.
In the meantime, please know this decision was given a great deal of attention and was made with your child(ren)’s best interest in mind.
We wish you well and hope you enjoy this extra time with your children.
In Gratitude,
Moriah

App State Child Development Center expands services through federal grant funding
Completing a higher education degree while parenting involves a multitude of demands that student parents must balance, including finding care for their children.
The Child Development Center (CDC) at Appalachian State University, which has provided high-quality early care and education for children of student parents since the 1980s, is expanding its services to low-income parents pursuing postsecondary education as part of its successful Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant proposal, funded by the U.S. Department of Education (ED).

There is a scandal in America, even people who are usually tolerant of so-called non-traditional values are outraged. In North Carolina, they announced a family holiday, but it turned out that people were called to a gay pride parade. However, they also found entertainment for children.
Such stories are not uncommon in America lately. More recently, Texas also held a holiday for young children. They put on a transvestite show. And then they also said: the children are happy, there are no objections.
Gay parade in Vancouver, Canada announced that a four-year-old girl will become a boy. Nearby is a contented mother: she got her moment of fame.

Social Development in Children | SCAN of Northern Virginia
Ask any parent about their child’s development, and they’ll often talk about speech and language development, gross motor skills or even physical growth. But a child’s social development—her ability to interact with other children and adults—is a critical piece of the development puzzle.
What is social development?
Social development refers to the process by which a child learns to interact with others around them. As they develop and perceive their own individuality within their community, they also gain skills to communicate with other people and process their actions. Social development most often refers to how a child develops friendships and other relationships, as well how a child handles conflict with peers.
Why is social development so important?
Social development can actually impact many of the other forms of development a child experiences. A child’s ability to interact in a healthy way with the people around her can impact everything from learning new words as a toddler, to being able to resist peer pressure as a high school student, to successfully navigating the challenges of adulthood. Healthy social development can help your child:
Develop language skills. An ability to interact with other children allows for more opportunities to practice and learn speech and language skills. This is a positive cycle, because as communication skills improve, a child is better able to relate to and react to the people around him.
Build self esteem. Other children provide a child with some of her most exciting and fun experiences. When a young child is unable to make friends it can be frustrating or even painful. A healthy circle of friends reinforces a child’s comfort level with her own individuality.
Strengthen learning skills. In addition to the impact social development can have on general communication skills, many researchers believe that having healthy relationships with peers (from preschool on up) allows for adjustment to different school settings and challenges. Studies show that children who have a hard time getting along with classmates as early as preschool are more likely to experience later academic difficulties.
Resolve conflicts. Stronger self esteem and better language skills can ultimately lead to a better ability to resolve differences with peers.
Establish positive attitude. A positive attitude ultimately leads to better relationships with others and higher levels of self confidence.
How can parents make a difference when it comes to social development?
Studies show that everyday experiences with parents are fundamental to a child’s developing social skill-set. Parents provide a child with their very first opportunities to develop a relationship, communicate and interact. As a parent, you also model for your child every day how to interact with the people around you.
Because social development is not talked about as much as some other developmental measures, it can be hard for parents to understand the process AND to evaluate how their child is developing in this area. There are some basic developmental milestones at every age, as well as some helpful tips a parent can use to support their child.
Infants & Toddlers:
During the first 2 years of life, huge amounts of development are rapidly occurring. You can expect your child to: – Smile and react positively to you and other caregivers – Develop stranger anxiety—though it can be frustrating, this is a normal step in development – Develop an attachment to a comfort object such as a blanket or animal – Begin to show anxiety around other children – Imitate adults and children—just as a child develops in other ways, many social skills are learned simply through copying what a parent or sibling does – Already be affected by emotions of parents and others around them
As a parent, you can: – Respond to your baby’s needs promptly—your child is learning how to trust someone – Make eye contact with your baby—get down to their level and connect visually when you interact with them – Babble and talk to your baby, always pausing to allow them to respond – Play copycat with words and actions – Play “peekaboo”—this teaches your child that even if you “disappear” you will come back, and sets the stage for less stranger anxiety in the future – Involve your baby in daily activities such as running errands or visiting friends—this shows them how you interact with others in a respectful, positive way – Begin to arrange playdates so that your child can interact with peers
Preschoolers:
By this age, the stage has been set in the earliest years (mostly by parental and other family interactions) for a child to branch out. As preschool begins your child can: – Explore independently – Express affection openly, though not always accurately—there can still be much frustration for your child as language development is still happening – Still show some stranger anxiety – Perfect the temper tantrum—it can be stressful, but tantrums are a normal part of child development – Learn how to soothe themselves – Be more aware of others’ emotions – Cooperate with other children – Express fear or anxiety before an upcoming event (such as a doctor visit)
As a parent, you can: – Demonstrate your own love through words and physical affection—which is a great way to begin teaching a child how to express other emotions as well – Help your child express their emotions by talking through what they are feeling – Play with your child in a “peer-like” way to encourage cooperative play—this is helpful when they are in a group environment and have to share toys and cooperate – Continue to provide play dates and opportunities to interact with other children – Provide examples of your trust in others, such as your own friendships or other relationships
School children:
By 5 and older, a child’s social development begins to reach new levels. This is a point in time when most children will spend more hours in a day with other children than with their parents. It is normal for them to: – Thrive on friendships – Want to please friends, as well as be more like their friends – Begin to recognize power in relationships, as well as the larger community – Recognize and fear bullies or display bully-like behavior themselves – As early as 10, children may begin to reject parents’ opinion of friends and certain behaviors—this is a normal step, but can be especially frustrating for parents
As a parent, you can: – Talk with your child about social relationships and values by asking them about school and friends every day – Allow children the opportunity to discuss social conflicts and problem-solve their reactions/actions – Discuss the subject of bullying and harassment, both in person and on the Internet – Allow older children to work out everyday problems on their own – Keep the lines of communication open—as a parent, you want to make yourself available to listen and support your child in non-judgmental ways
Your child’s social development is a complex issue that is constantly changing. But the good news is that parents can have a big impact on how it progresses. By modeling healthy relationships and staying connected with your child, you can help them relate to the people around them in positive, beneficial ways. By encouraging them to engage with other children and adults, you’re setting them up to enjoy the benefits of social health—from good self esteem to strong communication skills to the ability to trust and connect with those around them.
Social Development during Different Ages
Meaning of Social Development
Human beings posses a unique characteristic which separates them from animal beings. Their behaviour is social. Society is essential as food to them. They believe in the maintenance of social relationships and try to adjust with others. But this does not mean that the child is born with such social behaviour and social qualities. Like other aspects of growth and development, he develops the necessary social characteristics in him.
The process of the development of such qualities which brings desirable changes in his social behaviour is referred to as social development or socialisation of the child. Social development occupies very important place in the overall process of growth and development. We cannot even describe an individual a person if he has not passed through the process of social development or socialisation.
Social development theory attempts to explain qualitative changes in the structure and framework of society, that help the society to better realize aims and objectives. Development can be defined in a manner applicable to all societies at all historical periods as an upward ascending movement featuring greater levels of energy, efficiency, quality, productivity, complexity, comprehension, creativity, mastery, enjoyment and accomplishment.
Definitions of Social Development
Some of the definitions are given below:
1. According to Sorenson, “By social growth and development we mean increasing ability to get along well with oneself and others.”
2. According to Freeman and Showel, “Social development is the process of learning to confirm to group standards, more and traditions and becoming imbued with a sense of oneness, inter-communication and co-operation. “
3. According to Mrs. Hurlock, “Social development means the attaining of maturity in social relationships.”
4. According to Garret, “Socialisation or social development is the process whereby the biological individual is converted into a human person.”
During the process of social development there is a progress in the social abilities or skills of an individual. Social development refers to the process by which a person acquires the necessary knowledge, skills and disposition that makes him an acceptable member of his own group. If develops group loyalty and encourages mutual dependence, co-operation and cohesiveness. It is the process which helps an individual to behave in accordance with social traditions and mores and thus makes him able to adjust in his social environment.
It asserts that as in the case of emotional development, the goal is to attain emotional maturity. similarly there in the case of social development, the goal should be the attainment of social maturity. An individual should have all the opportunities to modify or improve his social behaviour so that he may be able to maintain proper social relationships and can adjust himself to his social environment. Socialisation and social development the process of social interaction-helps the individuals to attain essential personality characteristics.
Social Development during Different Ages
1. Social Development in Infancy
The behaviour of the human infant is not social at birth. He is too much self-centered. He is only concerned with the satisfaction of his physical need. He does not even distinguish between people and inanimate objects.
Social behaviour is said to be taking is birth when the infant first distinguishes between persons and objects. He is dependent upon the adults for the satisfaction of his needs, therefore, normally the baby’s first social contacts are with an adult Mrs. Hurlock in her book Child Psychology’ has beautifully explained the process of social development during the first two years as a result of the contact with adults. Below we give the summary of her findings.
S.No.

9.
At twelve Month
Can refrain from doing things in response to ‘no-no or some other form or request.
10.
At two years
Can cooperate with adults in a number of routine activities and becomes an active member of the family.
2. Social Development during Childhood
As we have seen that during the period 2 to 6 years a child progresses from being relatively unsocial to distinctly socialized individual. He learns to share, to cooperate and to do things with others. But the circle of his social contacts is limited at this stage. Therefore, we cannot expect much from him regarding his social development.
With the entrance in childhood most of the children begin to go to school. The area of their social contacts is now widened. We note the following changes in the social behaviour of a child:
1. This period is marked by greater degree of social awareness. There is a great expansion of child’s social world. Most of the important types of social behaviour; necessary to adjustment with others, begin to develop at this stage.
2. He tries to seek independence from his parents and others elders and spends less time with them. In actual sense he now drives no enjoyment from them. Thus, interest in playmates of his own age gets increased.
3. He becomes an active member of a ‘peer groups and this group gradually replaces the family group in its influence over his behaviour and attitudes. The members of such a group are almost of the same age. They believe in group loyalty and thus try to confirm to the rules and the values maintained by their group.
4. We find a sort of segregation among boys and girls of this age. They form their group among members of their own sex because of a definite and clear differentiation between their habits, interest and attitudes etc.
3. Social Development during Adolescence
Adolescence is a period of rapid change and adjustments. In the social sphere also it holds a greater significance. The social development of this age is marked by the following characteristics:
1. Adolescence is marked with too much sex consciousness, sexual development and the accompanying attraction for opposite sex. Boys and girls of this age try to attract and hold the attraction of each other through their style of dress, manner of taking and other forms of social behaviour. They also try to seek friendship and even sexual relationships. In this way. the social behaviour pattern of the adolescence is almost dominated by sexual needs and desires.
2. During this stage group loyalty becomes very much pronounced Like childhood, it does not confine itself to the gang only but extends to the school, the community, the province and to the nation. Martyre and patriots are the product of this age. Cooperation reaches its speak during this period and the individuals are in mood to sacrifice their own interest for the greater cause of the group, society and nation.
3. Adolescence is also marked with the increase in friendly relationship. The nature of friendship maintained at the stage differs much from that of childhood. While in the childhood the friends are generally chosen from the neighbourhood or class, in adolescence there is no such bar of distance. The adolescents tend to choose friends of their own age, mental level and from the same socio-economic group to which their own family belongs. Their friendships are based on their common interests, hobbies and skills or the satisfaction of their mutual needs and subsequently tend to last longer than the friendship made in early childhood. It sometimes ties them in life long relationships.
4. Adolescence is a period of intense emotions. Emotional behaviour dominates the social characteristics and qualities of adolescents. An adolescent is highly sensitive, idealist and social reformer by nature. He feels strongly for the weak and sufferers. He is always ready to do some sort of social and community service. From time to time he exhibits his desire for bringing reforms in the social set-up and is highly critical of social evils and injustice.

Social development of preschool children | Consultation (senior group) on the topic:
The preschool age of a child is a period of formation of social development and behavior, an important stage of his social education. So, what should be the social education of the child and what is the role of the preschool institution in this?
What is the social development of a preschooler?
The social development of a child is the assimilation of the traditions of the society, culture, environment in which the child grows up, the formation of his values, communication skills. Even in infancy, the child establishes the first contacts with the world around him. Over time, the child learns to establish contacts with adults and trust them, control his body and actions, build his speech and frame it with words. To form a harmonious social development of the child, it is necessary to give him and his curiosity maximum time and attention. This is communication, explanations, reading, games, in a word, arming the child with a maximum of information about the human environment, the rules and norms of communication, behavior.
The family at the first stage is the main cell for the transfer of experience and knowledge accumulated earlier. To do this, the parents of the baby, his grandparents are required to create an optimal psychological atmosphere in the house. This is an atmosphere of trust, kindness, mutual respect, which are called the primary social education of children.
Communication is a key factor in the social development of a child’s personality. Communication underlies the social hierarchy, which is manifested in the relationship “children-parents”. But the main thing in these relationships should be love, which begins from the womb. No wonder psychologists say that a desired child is a happy, self-confident and, in the future, successful person in society.
Social education of a preschooler
Social education is the basis of a child’s social development. It is at preschool age that the formation of a system of relationships between children and adults takes place, the types of children’s activities become more complicated, and joint activities of children are formed.
In early childhood, children learn a wide range of activities with objects, they discover ways to use these objects. This “discovery” leads the child to the adult as the bearer of the way to perform these actions. And the adult becomes a model with which the child compares himself, whom he inherits, repeats his actions. Boys and girls carefully study the world of adults, highlighting the relationship between them, ways of interaction.
The social upbringing of a preschooler is the comprehension of the world of human relations, the child’s discovery of the laws of interaction between people, that is, the norms of behavior. The desire of a preschooler to become an adult and growing up consists in subordinating his actions to the norms and rules of behavior of adults accepted in society.
Since the leading activity of the preschooler is the game, the role-playing game becomes the main one in shaping the social behavior of the child. Thanks to this game, kids model the behavior and relationships of adults. At the same time, in the foreground for children – the relationship between people and the meaning of their work. By performing certain roles in the game, boys and girls learn to act, subordinating their behavior to moral standards. For example, children often play hospital. They take on the roles of patient and doctor. Moreover, the role of a doctor is always more competitive, since it has the function of recovery and assistance. In this game, children inherit the behavior of a doctor, his actions with a phonendoscope, examination of the throat, syringes, writing a prescription. Playing the hospital reinforces the relationship of mutual respect between the doctor and the patient, the implementation of his recommendations and appointments. Usually, children inherit the pattern of behavior of the doctors they visited at the clinic or their district pediatricians.
If you watch the children in the role-playing game “Family” or, as the children say, “like dad and mom”, you can find out what kind of atmosphere reigns in the children’s family. So, the child will subconsciously take on the role of leader in the family. If it’s a dad, then even girls can be a dad, go to work, and then “go to the garage to fix the car.” They can give instructions to their “half” to buy something in the store, cook their favorite dish. At the same time, the moral climate, the relationship between parents, can also manifest itself in children’s play. This is a kiss of parents before leaving for work, an offer to lie down after work and relax, the tone of communication is ordered or affectionate. The copying by the child of the standards of behavior of the parents indicates that it is they who form the model of relations in the family in the child. Equality will be either submission, mutual respect or dictate – it depends on the parents. They must remember this every minute.
Social education of a preschooler — is the formation of humanistic feelings and relationships. For example, attention to the interests of other people, their needs, interest in their work, respect for any profession. This is the ability of a boy and a girl to sympathize with troubles and rejoice in other people’s joys. Today this is very important, because envy is often formed in children already at preschool age. And this is precisely the inability to rejoice for one’s neighbor, which, as the child grows up, develops into duplicity and chameleonism, the predominance of material values over moral ones. Social education is also the child’s ability to experience his guilt for violating generally accepted norms of behavior. For example, a boy should feel remorse for having taken a typewriter from a peer, he should ask for forgiveness for an offense. The girl should worry about the damaged doll. She must understand that it is impossible to spoil toys, they should be treated with care, like all things, objects, clothes.
Social education of preschool children is the ability to live in a team of peers, respect for adults, compliance with the norms of behavior in public places, in nature, at a party.
Social development in kindergarten
Since the majority of parents are busy and working people (students), the kindergarten and educators play an important role in the social development of girls and boys of preschool age.
The social development of children in kindergarten is the purposeful formation of values and traditions, culture and norms of behavior in society. This is the assimilation of ethical norms by the child, the formation of love for nature and all the people around. Such tasks of the social development of children, covering their activities in a preschool institution. Playing and communicating with adults, the child learns to coexist with others, live in a team, take into account the interests of members of this team. In our case, kindergarten groups. If a child attends a kindergarten, then educators and music workers, nannies and physical education teachers take an active part in his socialization.
The child trusts the teacher and gives him authority, because the whole life of a boy and a girl in kindergarten depends on him. Therefore, often the word of the educator will be dominant over the word of the parents. “And the teacher said that you can’t do that!” – such a phrase and others like it are often heard by parents. This suggests that the teacher is really an authority for the child. After all, she arranges interesting games, reads books, tells fairy tales, teaches to sing and dance. The teacher acts as a judge in children’s conflicts and disputes, she can help and regret, support and praise, and maybe scold. That is, the behavior of the educator serves as a model for the child in different situations, and the word of the educator serves as a guide in actions, deeds, and relationships with other children.
The social development of a child in a kindergarten can only take place in a warm atmosphere of relations between children created by the educator. A favorable climate in the group is when children feel relaxed and free, when they are heard and appreciated, praised and correctly given comments. A good teacher knows how to make the child feel significant in a peer group, while maintaining individuality. The child thus develops self-esteem and self-confidence. He knows that they hope for him at the matinee, that he is obliged to help the nanny and water the flowers on time on duty. In a word, the social development of a child is the ability to live in a team, conscientiously fulfill the assigned duties and prepare for a more serious and adult stage of social relations – studying at school.

One of the modern tasks of preschool education is the development in children of the foundations of socialization in the process of playing activity, when they are introduced to the elementary generally accepted norms and rules of relationships with peers and adults, civic affiliation, patriotic feelings are formed.0067 The social development of the child in DOO represents the process of assimilation of universal human values by a preschooler, the accumulation of experience in cooperation with the whole world around him: people, nature, technical devices, art and, of course, with himself. Forming the child’s social behavior, we are guided by special goals:
introducing the child to the world of people;
promotion of the socialization of the child’s personality.
The conditions for the full social development of children are created for this: the child is given the opportunity, showing social motivation, the ability to independently choose the style of behavior adequate, improve personal relations with others.
Pedagogical guidelines for the social development of the child in the preschool are the following:
the formation of a child’s self-esteem, confidence in their abilities;
development, stimulation of a child’s positive attitude towards others;
education of the child’s social skills and the formation of social competence.
Let’s allocate basic skills formed in kindergarten:
skill to follow the rules of etiquette;
the ability to follow safety rules;
skill of cooperation and interaction with others;
the skill of observing general rules, agreements;
skill in applying positive ways of resolving conflict situations.
According to the research data of T. V. Antonova, M. I. Ivanenko, E. O. Smirnova, R. B. Sterkina, it is expedient to control the level of socialization of a child in preschool conditions with the help of special indicators. skills of children can serve as indicators of the successful social development of a preschooler in a kindergarten:0085
the ability to follow and yield to social norms,
the child’s ability to control his desires and others.
The level of social development of a child in a preschool educational institution can be determined using indicators that characterize the social and personal qualities of preschool children: firstly, the child’s interest in himself, secondly, interest in peers, thirdly, the child’s attitude to the kindergarten group and other.
A child of preschool age perceives the social world around him not quite the way adults see and understand him. The process of familiarizing children with social reality is complex, contradictory and complex: the tasks of developing the intellect, feelings, moral foundations of the individual are solved in conjunction with each other and it is impossible to separate one from the other. However, social reality in itself is not a means of educating children. It becomes such in the case when the subjects, objects, facts, events that the child encounters are accessible, understandable, personally significant for him. Therefore, an important pedagogical task is to analyze and select the content from the social environment that carries a developing potential and can become a means of introducing the child to the social world.
The process of social education of preschoolers will be effective if:
the means of education is the development of cultural and historical traditions of the environment, including natural monuments, memorable places, objects associated with historical events in the life of the people, as well as a set of cultural objects – things, ideas, images, samples of people’s activity;
mastering the cultural and historical traditions of the environment has a holistic impact on the social education of preschoolers through the unity of cognitive, playful activities, interpersonal relationships, diverse communication and is aimed at developing their spiritual interests, the free manifestation of socially valuable initiative among peers, in the family;
criteria for social education of preschoolers will be: the child’s ideas about the cultural and historical traditions of the microsociety, the child’s need to master these traditions, the presence of practical experience of preschoolers in preserving and transmitting the cultural and historical traditions of the environment;
preschool educational organization will act as an open educational system interacting with other social institutions of the environment;
mastering the traditions of the cultural and historical environment will be ensured by the readiness of the teaching staff of preschool institutions for the social education of the child.

Helping Babies Discover The Wonders Of The World Around Them
Developing The Senses With Affection And Attention
Our highly qualified instructors strive to provide a comforting, faith-based atmosphere for infants to closely match what they experience at home. Low ratios of 1 teacher to 5 babies ensures that each child receives lots of cuddles and individualized care.
Our teachers use a unique blend of The Creative Curriculum® and STEAM to guide your infants through discovering and understanding the world around them. Children are encouraged to learn through play and engaging, hands on experiences.
Being exposed to music, language and creativity on a regular basis helps your baby’s body and mind work together while improving their socio-emotional and intellectual skills. We’re always singing, dancing and narrating fun stories to keep little ones engaged.
Your little one will enjoy a complimentary breakfast, lunch and snack with us every day. We serve high-quality, nutritious infant formula and baby food as we gradually begin to incorporate solids into their diet to fuel their growth.
Our infant classrooms are designated shoeless zones and the in-house housekeeping staff regularly deep clean floors and carpets to ensure that your baby is in the cleanest possible environment as they crawl and explore. We also have an air purification system that helps eliminate dust mites and germs.
With over 30 years of experience in early childhood education, Donna Jensen was the recipient of the Child Care Success Academy’s Owner of the Year Award in 2017. Her life’s work is to positively influence the lives of the little ones under her care.
Check in on your baby’s development up to 10 times a day thanks to livestream videos in each classroom! Teachers will keep you informed by sharing helpful photos and updates through the Procare® Connect app.
Breathe a sigh of relief knowing that we take all of the necessary precautions to keep your babies out of harm’s way. Our school requires fingerprint access for entry, while playgrounds are separated by age group to prevent bumps and bruises.
Your baby will get to explore their surroundings and practice movement on an age-appropriate playground each day. Staying active will help them refine their large muscle groups, learn how to balance and develop their coordination!
Our center is the proud recipient of a BB rating, the highest possible score by South Carolina’s ABC Quality Care system. Our team regularly undergoes state professional training to guarantee that they are delivering the optimal education to your little ones.

My two boys have been going to the learning station for a little over three months, and I must say it has had such a positive impact on their learning. I was worried about my oldest son not being able to say many words and within these three months his teacher Ms. Tasha has taught him so many new words.

Your Child’s Learning
Starts With Relationships
We believe families do best when they’re supported, trust us, and feel respected. These values lay a lasting foundation for delivering a joyful, quality early childhood education because learning starts with loving.
We live, love, and teach our core values, which are:

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19
“Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don’t yell at one another or curse each other or ever be rude. Instead, be kind and merciful, and forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ.” Ephesians 4:31-42
“Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Outdo one another in showing honor.” Romans 12:10

I want to express my sincere appreciation for what a wonderful job Isabel does taking care of Justin and Lauren. I toured numerous daycare centers prior to hers, and I was so pleased to find Isabel, even thoughI was hesitant to leave Justin with anyone! But I have thanked my lucky stars every day that we found her, and she has truly become a part of our family, my kids feel like they have a big extended family they spend their days with. Thank you for creating such a warm, friendly, and fun atmosphere for the them. It is truly a blessing to be able to leave my children in her care, knowing they are enjoying there time and well taken care of. Thank you for making such an incredible effort everyday!…

Pros:
This is a nice clean facility.
There are very nice teachers/daycare workers that treat kids like they are their own.
They plan fun activities and have fun little field trips. (Zoo, parks, pumpkin patch, etc.)
Cons:
-I wish there were not TV’s in every room and that the TV was not on all the time, I believe state regulations are 5 hours or less a week now and it seems to be on more than that.
-It would be nice to get a paper or some sort of update at the end of each day so I know what my children are doing. Did my children nap, what are they learning about, did they eat their meals, use the bathroom/how many diaper changes, etc. I know it may take some time to track but a few other facilities do this and it is a nice touch. I always try to ask these things but sometimes it is hard to get all the answers, especially with morning vs afternoon teachers and it is hard to keep the teacher from the kids at pickup to talk and get all the information.
I would recommend this place for sure as it seems like a nice and safe environment but there are just a few areas for improvement….

Hi! My name is Charlie Day! I started a in home daycare to be home with my son and also to provide a safe and affordable place for those who need their little ones cared for while they are at work. I lovechildren and have had a wonderful time teaching children new things and having fun together. I am looking to add 3-4 children 6 weeks + full or part time.
I offer: a clean, safe, and caring environment, healthy meals/snacks, daily learning time (geared towards your child’s specific age/needs), an awesome playroom filled with toys, books, puzzles, and games for playtime and learning/sensory experiences, a big swing set/playhouse, bikes, and sports equipment for lots of outdoor fun, limited (supervised) television time, and lots of quality time with each child.
I am CPR certified and am a certified nurse assistant with 8 years of medical pediatric experience. I have 12+ years experience with children of all ages. I’ve worked as a nanny, a babysitter, a private tutor and a medical assistant in a pediatric. I genuinely love children and have a 4-month-old of my own named Benning.
I have a private blog for the daycare and update it with photos and information a couple of times a week. I recently added a private instagram account (I post between 5–20 pics a day) as well. The parents I work with love both. I have only a small group of children at once, which means that your child will have plenty of one-on-one attention and care throughout the day.

9 grandma’s advice on caring for children that doctors ask you to forget about / AdMe
Researchers say that most modern grandparents do not update their knowledge of how to properly care for children during their lives. Guided solely by personal experience, the older generation often gives young parents recommendations that have long been recognized as outdated. And many of them are not safe.
At ADME , we have studied parenting forums and articles from practicing pediatricians to understand what irrelevant advice and statements most often hear moms and dads of newborns.
It used to be that it was necessary to swaddle newborns, because it helps to keep the baby’s legs in a straight position. Allegedly, without this, the bones will not be straight and the child will grow up with a clubfoot.
But pediatricians insist: swaddling not only does not straighten the legs, but also threatens with violations in the development of the hips. Wrapping children in cloth is only to calm them down. Most of all, such measures are necessary for restless babies, children with neurological disorders or severe colic. However, if the baby sleeps well and does not feel restless without a diaper, it is not necessary to wrap him up.
2. In a house where there is a baby, it should be as warm as possible
Actually not. Overheating is just as dangerous for a baby as hypothermia. Patronage nurses recommend keeping the temperature in the children’s room at 16–20 °C.
Seeing this figure, your baby’s grandmother will probably throw up her hands with the verdict: “They will freeze the child.” But, according to doctors, at this temperature, the child’s sleep improves. In addition, in the coolness, the nasal mucosa does not dry out and it is more comfortable for the baby to breathe.
3. Dip a nipple in something sweet to soothe a baby
Many grandmothers recommend dipping a nipple in something sweet to soothe a crying baby. In some countries, honey is advised, in others – peanut butter and condensed milk. But pediatricians are categorically against such methods.
The listed products are very allergenic, and you can never know in advance how the body of a newborn will react to such additives. In addition, if the child has already started teething, sugar can cause tooth decay. And honey can also cause botulism.
Well, of course, in principle, giving a baby a pacifier has its pros and cons, so in this matter it is advisable not to deviate from the recommendations of pediatricians.
In the past, most mothers approached organizing a bed for a child in the same way as if they were creating a small copy of their bed. The wooden crib always had a miniature pillow and a tiny blanket.
However, pediatricians remind again and again: there should be nothing in the baby’s crib except a mattress and sheets – no pillows, no blankets, no toys, as all this increases the possibility of accidental asphyxia. If the room is too cold, it is better to dress the baby in warm pajamas, but do not cover him with a blanket.
At first glance, the advice seems quite logical: put the baby on his stomach so that he does not choke when he burps. But doctors have established that sleeping on the stomach is even more dangerous for babies than on the back, because:
this position can cause airway obstruction;
sleeping on the stomach causes dangerous pressure on the stomach and diaphragm;
this posture can lead to overheating.
Therefore, it is better to put the child on his back. But the head can be turned to the side.
6. The child should fall asleep in absolute silence
It can be quite difficult for an adult to fall asleep if some noise interferes: water drips from a tap or someone is talking in the room. But for newborns, noise sometimes even helps to sleep. There is only one condition: it must be uniform and not increase from the moment the baby falls asleep.
Newborns can sleep quite peacefully if their mother is talking on the phone nearby or if water is making noise behind the wall. Sometimes children even turn on “white noise” on purpose, because, firstly, they fall asleep faster under this monotonous buzz, and secondly, falling asleep at the noise, they will not wake up if you suddenly decide to vacuum in the hallway or wash the dishes in the kitchen.
7. You need to feed your baby according to the schedule
Not only grandmothers, but also some doctors recommend feeding newborns strictly according to the schedule. However, in reality, this approach to feeding exhausts the nerves of both mother and child. In addition, pediatricians do not see anything wrong with feeding the baby not by the clock, but on demand – not a single doctor will advise keeping the child hungry.
However, this does not apply to milk formulas, which are released immediately with the feeding schedule.
8. Complementary foods should be introduced as early as possible
Breastfed babies should definitely not be introduced to complementary foods at such an early age. According to WHO recommendations, the baby’s menu should be changed no earlier than he reaches the age of 6 months.
It seems that every family has a story about how a young mother once ran out of breast milk and a young father rushed to the village at a distance lands to buy fresh milk from an old woman who kept her cow or goat. Moreover, this is usually presented as a feat: after all, parents saved their children in this way from feeding on milk formula, which supposedly contains only chemistry.
But doctors see this not as a feat in the name of salvation, but simply another way to endanger the health of the newborn. After all, a balanced milk formula is great for feeding children who are not breastfed.
But animal milk is dangerous for several reasons:
It contains many minerals that the kidneys of a newborn cannot cope with.
In this case, there is not enough iron, which can result in iron deficiency anemia. Vitamin C is also lacking.
Proteins in animal milk can irritate the intestinal mucosa.
Animal milk may be allergic.
And besides, due to the unbalanced composition, such milk can accelerate the child’s weight gain.
Therefore, you can give your baby milk no earlier than he reaches the age of 1 year.
Despite the fact that the older generation is mistaken in some way, we should not forget that our grandmothers are a storehouse of useful information, invaluable experience and support.

Social assistance has deep historical

The preschool period is extremely important for

individuality, organization of oneself, one’s own
psychological state; help in solving
emerging problems and their overcoming in communication; A
also help in becoming a little man in
society.
The very word “society” comes from the Latin
“societas”, meaning “comrade”, “friend”,
“buddy”. From the first days of a child’s life
is a social being, since any of its
need cannot be satisfied without
assistance and participation of another person.
Social experience is acquired by the child in
communication and depends on the diversity of social
relationships that are given to him.
the nearest environment. Development environment without
active position of an adult, aimed at
transmission of cultural forms of relationships in
human society, social experience is not
bears. The assimilation of the universal human
experience gained by previous
generations, occurs only in joint
activities and interactions with other people. Exactly
so the child masters speech, new knowledge and
skills; he develops his own
beliefs, spiritual values and needs,
character is established.
All adults who interact with the child and
affect his social development
divided into four levels of proximity,
characterized by various combinations of three
factors:
frequency of contact with the child;
emotional richness of contacts;
informative.
All parents are at the first level
three indicators have the maximum value.
The second level is occupied by preschool teachers –
the maximum value of information content,
emotional richness.
Third level – adults with
child situational contacts, or those that
children can observe on the street, in the clinic, in
transport, etc.
Fourth level – people, about existence
which the child may know, but with which he
never meet: residents of other cities,
countries, etc.
Child’s immediate environment – first and second
level of proximity – due to emotional
saturation of contacts with the child, not only
affect its development, but they themselves change under
the impact of these relationships. For success
social development of the child is necessary to
his communication with the closest adult environment was
dialogically and without prejudice. However
even face-to-face communication between people
is a complex and multifaceted process.
It carries out communicative
interaction and exchange of information.
The main means of human communication are
speech, gestures, facial expressions, pantomime. Not yet owning
colloquially, the child accurately responds to
smile, tone and tone of voice. Communication
involves people understanding each other. But
young children are self-centered. They believe that
others think, feel, see the situation in the same way,
like them, so it’s hard for them to get into position
another person, put yourself in his place.
It is the lack of understanding between
people most often causes conflicts.
This explains the frequent quarrels, disputes and
even fights between children. Social
competence is achieved through
productive communication between the child and adults
peers. For most children, this level
development of communication can only be achieved in
educational process.

(Slide №9)
Social development is a process during
which the child learns the values, traditions
of his people, the culture of the society in which he
to live. This experience is presented in
personality structure with a unique combination
four closely interdependent
components:
Cultural skills – are
set of specific skills
society to a person in various situations as
mandatory. For example: ordinal counting skill
up to ten before starting school.
Specific knowledge –
representations
received by a person in individual experience
exploration of the surrounding world and bearing
traces of his interactions with
reality in the form of individual
passions, interests, value systems. Their
distinctive feature – a close semantic and
emotional connection with each other. Their
the totality forms an individual picture
peace.
Role behavior –
behavior in a specific
situation due to natural and
sociocultural environment. Reflects familiarity
a person with norms, customs, rules,
regulates his behavior in certain
situations, determined by his social
competence. Even in preschool childhood,
the child has many roles: he is a son or daughter,
Kindergarten student, someone’s friend. not without reason
a small child behaves differently at home than in
kindergarten, and communicates with friends differently than
with unfamiliar adults. Every social
the role has its own rules, which can
vary and are different for each subculture,
value systems accepted in a given society,
norms and traditions. But if an adult is free
and consciously accepts this or that role, understands
possible consequences of their actions and is aware of
responsibility for the results of their behavior,
the child has yet to learn.
Social qualities,
which can be
combined into five complex characteristics:
cooperation and caring for others,
competition and initiative
autonomy and independence, social
adaptability, openness and social
flexibility.
All components of social development are
in close relationship. Therefore, changes in one
of which will inevitably lead to changes in
the other three components.
For example: the child has been accepted into games
peers who had previously rejected him. Him
social qualities immediately changed – he
became less aggressive, more attentive and
open to communication. His horizons expanded
new ideas about human
relationships and myself: I am also good, me,
it turns out that children love, children are not evil either, with them
having fun, etc. His cultural
skills after a while is inevitable
enriched with new methods of communication with objects
the world around him, because he will be able to observe
and try these tricks with playmates.
Previously, this was not possible, the experience of others
rejected because the children themselves were rejected,
attitude towards them was unconstructive.
All deviations in the social development of the child
preschool age is the result of wrong
behavior of surrounding adults. They just don’t
understand what their behavior creates in life
child of situations with which he cannot
cope, so his behavior starts
be antisocial.
The social development process represents
is a complex phenomenon in which
there is an appropriation by the child objectively
given norms of human society and
constant discovery, self-assertion as
social subject.
The content of social development is determined,
on the one hand, the totality of social
influences of world-class culture,
universal values, on the other hand,
attitude towards this individual,
actualization of one’s own “I”, disclosure
creative potentials of the individual.
How to promote social development
preschooler? The following tactics can be suggested
interaction between the teacher and the children in order to
formation of socially acceptable forms
behavior and assimilation of the moral norms of society:
discuss the consequences of the child’s actions more often
or an adult to the feelings of another person;
emphasize similarities between different people;
offer children games and situations in which
cooperation and mutual assistance is needed;
involve children in discussions of interpersonal
conflicts arising on moral grounds;
consistently ignore cases
negative behavior, pay attention to
a child who behaves well;
do not repeat the same demands over and over,
prohibitions and punishments;
clearly formulate the rules of conduct.
Explain why you should do it instead of
otherwise.
Social experience to which one joins

cultural values, their transformation,

In relation to the content of pre-school
education in the aspect of social development speech
can go about the following sections of culture and
their respective areas of organization
pedagogical process: culture of communication,
included in the content of moral
education; psychosexual culture,
the content of which is reflected in the section on sexual
education; national culture realized in
the process of patriotic education and
religious education; ethnic
culture included in content
international education; legal
culture, the content of which is presented in
section of the foundations of legal consciousness. Such an approach
perhaps a little limited content
social development, excluding sections
ecological, intellectual, labor,
valeological, aesthetic, physical,
economic education.

However, the process of social development
involves the implementation of an integrated approach,
legitimacy of the conditional allocation of these sections
from a holistic pedagogical process
confirmed by one of the essential grounds,
related to the social identity of the child in
preschool age: species (child – person),
generic (child is a member of the family), sexual (child
– carrier of sexual essence), national
(a child is a carrier of national characteristics),
ethnic (the child is a representative of the people),
legal (the child is a representative of the legal
states).
The social development of the individual is carried out in
activities. In it a growing man passes
way from self-distinction, self-perception through
self-affirmation to self-determination, socially
responsible behavior and self-actualization.
Due to the specifics of the development of mental
processes and functions identification of a preschooler
possible at the level of empathic experience,
arising from identification with
other people.
The effectiveness of social development as
the result of socialization-individuation
due to the action of various factors. IN
aspect of pedagogical research the most important
of which is education, the purpose of which is
familiarization with culture, its reproduction,
appropriation and creation. Modern
research on the personality development of the child (in
in particular, the team of authors for the development
basic program “Sources”) allow
supplement, specify
list and refer to the universal human
abilities a number of basic characteristics
personalities, the formation of which is feasible in
process of social development: competence,

autonomy, responsibility,
security, freedom of conduct, self-awareness
personality, the ability to self-esteem.

social development content of preschoolers
determined by various bases of social
identification, dominant in one or another
age: younger preschool age – species and
generic identification; middle – specific,
generic, gender identification; senior –
species, generic, gender, national,
ethnic, legal identification;
Of great importance in the process of assimilation of culture
and in the development of universal social
abilities has an imitation mechanism as one
from the paths of penetration into semantic structures
human activity. Initially,
imitating the surrounding people, the child masters
generally accepted ways of behaving
depending on the features of communication
situations. Interaction with other people is not
differentiated by species, genus, sex,
national signs.
As the intellectual
activity, enrichment of semantic social
the spectrum of interaction occurs awareness
values of each rule, norm; their application
becomes associated with a particular
situation. Actions previously mastered at the level
mechanical imitation, acquire a new one,
social meaning. Awareness of value
social action means
the emergence of a new mechanism of social
development — normative regulation, influence
which in preschool age is invaluable.
Implementation of the tasks of social development of children
preschool age is most effective for
the presence of a holistic pedagogical system,
built in accordance with the basic
approaches of the general scientific level of methodology
pedagogy.

The axiological approach allows us to determine
set of priority values in
education, upbringing and self-development of a person.
Applied to social development
preschoolers as such can be
communicative, psychosexual,
national, ethnic, legal culture.
A cultural approach allows you to take
into account all the conditions of place and time, in
which a person was born and lives, the specifics of his
immediate environment and historical past
of their country, city, main values
orientation of representatives of their people, ethnic group.
Dialogue of cultures, which is one of the dominant
paradigms of the modern education system,
impossible without sharing the values of one’s own
culture.
The humanistic approach involves the recognition
personal beginning in the child, orientation to his
subjective needs and interests, recognition
his rights and freedoms, the inherent value of childhood as
foundations of mental development,
cultural-creative function of childhood as one
one of the most important aspects of social development,
psychological comfort and welfare of the child
priority criteria in performance evaluation
social institutions.
Anthropological approach improves
the status of psychological and pedagogical diagnostics in
determining the dynamics of social development
preschoolers, take into account different (age,
gender, national) features of personal
development in the process of moral, sexual,
patriotic, international, legal
education.
A synergistic approach allows
consider each subject of pedagogical
process (children, educators, parents) as
self-developing subsystems
transition from development to self-development. In aspect
social development of children this approach
provides for, for example, a gradual change
general orientations of the teacher in the formation
main activities (from perception to
reproduction according to the model – to independent
reproduction – to creativity).
The polysubjective approach involves
the need to take into account the influence of all factors
social development (microfactors: family,
peers, kindergarten, school, etc.; mesofactors:
ethno-cultural conditions, climate; macro factors:
society, state, planet, space).
The systems-structural approach involves
organization of work on social development
preschoolers in accordance with the holistic
pedagogical system of interconnected and
interdependent goals, objectives, content,
means, methods, forms of organization, conditions and
results of interaction between teachers and children.
An integrated approach involves the relationship
all structural components of pedagogical
systems for all links and
participants in the pedagogical process. IN
the content of social development is included
orientation of the child in the phenomena of social and
own life, in oneself.
The activity approach allows you to determine
dominant relationship of the child with the environment
world, actualize the implementation of the needs
in understanding oneself as a subject of activity.
Social development is carried out in the process

Environmental approach allows to solve the problem
organization of educational space as
means of social development of the individual. Wednesday
is a combination of niches and elements,
among which and in cooperation with which
the life of children goes on (Yu.S. Manuilov). Niche is
a certain space of possibilities,
allowing children to satisfy their
needs. Conventionally, they can be divided into
natural, social, cultural. Applied
to the tasks of social development organization
educational space requires the creation
subject-developing environment that provides
the most effective way to involve children in
standards of culture (universal,
traditional, regional). The element represents
an unrestrained force acting in
natural and social environment in the form of various
social movements manifested in
moods, needs, attitudes. IN
regarding the social development plan element
will be found in the interaction of children and
adults, in the dominant value orientations,
hierarchy of targets in relation to
ranking of educational tasks.
(Slide #12)
Brief overview of the main conceptual
provisions of the problem of social development
allows us to draw the following conclusions:
social development is
sequential, multidimensional process and
the result of socialization-individualization, in the course of
which is carried out the introduction of a person to
“universal social” and constant opening,
affirmation of oneself as a subject of social
culture;
preschool age is sensitive
period in human social development;
social development of preschool children
carried out in the current multidirectional
activities for the development of the objective world and the world
relationships between people.

The social upbringing of a preschooler is the comprehension of the world of human relations, the discovery by the child of the laws of interaction between people, that is, the norms of behavior. The desire of a preschooler to become an adult and growing up consists in subordinating his actions to the norms and rules of behavior of adults accepted in society.
Since the leading activity of a preschooler is a game, the role-playing game becomes the main one in shaping the child’s social behavior.
If you watch the children in the role-playing game “Family” or, as children say, “like dad and mom”, you can find out what kind of atmosphere reigns in the family of children.
The social development of a child in kindergarten can only take place in a warm atmosphere of relations between children created by the teacher.
Educator to open new day care center in East Dundee strip mall
After more than two decades in the classroom, Vicky Camilo-Simmons is ready to turn a long-held dream of operating her own early childhood education center into reality.
Recently, she and her husband, Dwight Simmons, took over the vacant spot left by Safari Childcare in East Dundee’s River Valley Square Shopping Center.

And by late-February, the Mundelein residents hope to be able to open the doors of Ideabox Childcare Inc., which they say will offer a play-based curriculum for children age six weeks to 6 years old.
“I taught for over 20 years, from pre-kindergarten to high school, and that’s my passion,” said Camilo-Simmons. “I wanted to open something that gives students at an early age an advantage…to be ready when they go to their kindergarten program or their first grade program knowing how to read, write, add and subtract.”

Camilo-Simmons said “helping little minds shape the world” will be the program’s motto.
“Most child care centers are play-based. But because I’m an educator I’m going to incorporate education,” Camilo-Simmons said. “If you put academics in a play program it works. The kids no longer think they’re learning.”
This week, East Dundee trustees approved granting a special use permit to allow Ideabox Childcare to operate at 460 Dundee Ave.
Remodeling work continues at the site, which will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and offer classroom space, a large indoor gym and an outdoor play area, according to village documents. Ideabox Childcare will have about 25 staff members overseeing an estimated capacity of 146 children.
While the village previously had a space requirement of 150 square feet per child for an outdoor play area, based on 25 percent of the facility’s capacity, trustees approved Monday eliminating that stipulation from the village code, opting to rely instead on the Department of Children and Family Services’ statewide standard of 75 square feet of safe outdoor area per child.
Child care centers are inspected, regulated and licensed by DCFS.
The husband-and-wife team said they scouted out several locations before choosing the former Safari Childcare site.
“When I came into East Dundee and looked at the place, I knew that was my town,” Camilo-Simmons said. “I told my husband, ‘This is it. This is where we need to be.’ That’s how I felt. And we moved forward.”

She explained that she’s excited about putting business roots down in the village.
“I’m trying to give back to a community that’s welcomed us with open arms,” Camilo-Simmons said.
For security, there will be a staff-operated entrance door to the Ideabox Childcare Inc. reception/waiting area and another staff-operated door to enter from reception into the classroom area after parent security check and sign-in procedures, according to village documents. Also, security cameras are expected to be installed throughout the center.
“She has been dreaming of doing this for the last 15 years. And I adopted the dream. She loves teaching kids. That’s the biggest thing for her,” Dwight Simmons, a dentist with a practice in Wisconsin, said about his wife.
Safari Childcare lawsuit accuses DCFS employees of harassment – Shaw Local
By Katie Smith
Sarah Nader – [email protected]
Safari Childcare, Inc. in McHenry closed after a DCFS investigation found the staff didn’t have the means to run the daycare and improperly kept children’s medical records. Now owner, James Ourth, has filed a lawsuit against the DCFS investigators. (Sarah Nader)
McHENRY – The owner of a local day-care chain is suing Illinois Department of Children and Family Services employees for intentionally working to shut down five of the business’ day-care centers, according to the lawsuit.
James Ourth, owner of Safari Childcare Inc., filed the lawsuit in federal court Dec. 13 and named more than 20 DCFS employees he said harassed and destroyed the business in retaliation of a confrontation involving Safari and multiple, unnamed political figures.
Five Safari locations have already been closed, and Ourth fears DCFS will seek to shut down the remaining centers in Hanover Park and Mount Prospect. Ourth is asking the judge for a declaration that DCFS’ conduct was a violation of the day care’s constitutional rights and enter an injunction barring the department from continuing to harass the day care chain. The lawsuit asks for unspecified money damages.
DCFS representatives said they would not comment on ongoing litigation.
Safari’s former McHenry center, 2214 W. Route 120, closed abruptly in May 2015 after a DCFS investigation.
A license compliance tracking report from DCFS at the time showed the McHenry facility had been at the center of complaints since January 2011. There had been more than a dozen complaints the day care center violated state rules regarding class sizes and staffing. Staff was not equipped to properly discipline children and did not keep proper medical records for children, according to violations noted before the closing of the McHenry center.
The center’s staff also was accused of not immediately reporting two instances of suspected child abuse or neglect, and allowing a child believed to have scabies to participate in daily activities.
Ourth’s attorney, Sara Garber, did not respond to phone calls and emails seeking a comment over the holidays.
Ourth has owned and run day care centers in Illinois since 1991 and in 2006, renamed his business to Safari Childcare Inc., according to the lawsuit.
From 2006 to 2014 Safari ran multiple day care centers, including locations at Mount Prospect, Palatine, Cary, Bensenville, Streamwood, McHenry, Highland Park, East Dundee, Hanover Park and Belvidere.
The trouble began in 2010 when Safari began to experience problems with DCFS checks and noticed delays in licensing and other applications, Ourth wrote in the suit.
In the spring of 2010, Safari Childcare submitted initial licensing applications to run day cares in Streamwood, McHenry and Highland Park. At that time they also submitted an application to allow one of the Mount Prospect day cares on Algonquin Road to include night and weekend care.
Ourth stated in the lawsuit that DCFS refused to process and approve the applications in a timely manner, causing delays that stopped Safari from opening and expanding as scheduled.
Throughout 2011 and 2012, Ourth scheduled meetings with DCFS administrators and directors. When the administrators “were not supportive,” Ourth began contacting local political representatives and state senators, who Ourth said participated in multiple meetings with DCFS and Safari, according to the lawsuit. He did not name the politicians involved.
Ourth states in the suit that after an April 2012 meeting in which Ourth and political representatives confronted DCFS administrators about their alleged mishandling of day care licensing and regulation, DCFS began intentionally trying to shut down Safari day care facilities in retaliation by using state daycare policies in unfair and illegal ways.
Ourth accused DCFS of first purposefully delaying permits, licensing and renewal visits and then increasing the number of unannounced checks on the centers.
He also claimed the department repeatedly reported Safari for not cooperating with “minuscule, vague provisions,” and then didn’t offer clear, corrective plans.
From July 2013 to May 2015 Safari received five notices from DCFS stating the department’s wouldn’t renew licensing for five of Safari’s day care centers, all within 18 months of one another, according to the lawsuit.
The business was “effectively destroyed in less than two years” when centers were continually shut down, the lawsuit states. Safari’s Highland Park center was closed in June 2015; Palatine’s October 2016; Belvidere’s in January 2017; and Bensenville’s in April 2017.
“The closure of five Safari locations combined with the delays and financial costs associated with complying with [DCFS’] targeted, irrational and unlawful administrative enforcement actions, created a domino effect with regard to the other Safari locations. …” Garber wrote in the lawsuit.
The suit is up for a status hearing Feb. 14 at the Illinois Northern District Court’s Chicago office.

Vintage in majolica, Hollywood safari, rhythms of Dubai and the Armenian alphabet – City Fashion Week continues in Afimall City – POPCAKE
Especially for the shows on the 6th floor of the Afimall City shopping mall, a podium of an unusual configuration was created in the shortest possible time, and a unique panoramic glass dome with an area of about 10,000 sq.m with an incredible view of the skyscrapers of Moscow City became a spectacular part of the scenery, visually transferring the fashion show of models to the evening metropolitan sky.
The second day began with a public talk on the topic: “Fashion of the future and new technologies” from Natalia Ermakova, founder of Sustain It, an agency for sustainable development and integrated solutions for brands.
Next, SofyaTereshina presented its collection on the podium. As part of City Fashion Week, the young designer presented the “Country” collection – a light summer fantasy on the theme of music and country style. All items are made of natural safe fabrics, and some outfits are repeated in handmade soft toys.
The next brand is Ninushka. Guests could see the Vintage collection, which was created with great love for the incredibly stylish grandmother Nina (grandmother of designer Elena Khalilova) and inspired by vintage models of her dresses from photo albums of the 50s. It carries a deep meaning – how wonderful it is to be a woman and admire yourself and others. The basis of the collection is vintage style combined with modern fashion trends and luxury Italian fabrics with majolica pattern.
Next on the podium was a master class from stylist Ilmira Kim . She talked about how easy and fun it is to use accessories and introduced the latest trends in the accessory group.
The next collection was shown by the brand TSUVANI . As part of its Family Look concept, the brand demonstrated TSUVANI family at the City Fashion Week show – clothes for those who value freedom and quality. Bright prints, symbolizing the dynamics of the rhythm of life in Dubai, luxurious alluring silk and golden fabrics are well-recognized markers of oriental culture. To create the collection, only premium quality fabrics were used – jacquard, cotton, linen.
The next brand of designer clothing by Irina Gribova is IGemotions, , which is distinguished not only by a creative, but by an artistic approach to creating clothes.
Designer Irina’s special idea was to write drawings by hand for absolutely every thing, without using printing. Emotions, memories, travel, nature and music, like frames of filmstrips, give rise to ideas for new patterns for T-shirts. It was T-shirts with hand-painted drawings on natural silk that were a special part of the brand’s creativity. The Melody of the Forest collection reflects the main idea of the brand: art and comfort.
IGemotions looks that were presented on the catwalk – a combination of different textures with airy and weightless hand-painted silk. This is a synthesis of artistic art, this time reflecting the elements of the wind and embodied in unique models in the Casual style.
Then there was a show from the headliner SHATU . In its new collection, the SHATU brand rethinks the utilitarian and at the same time elegant style that has passed through decades, but remains at the peak of its popularity and demand – the safari style. In the middle of the last century, this laconic style was picked up by a refined public, inscribing it into everyday urban chic. But Hollywood brought him real fame. Thanks to such films as “Mogambo”, “Crocodile Dundee”, “Out of Africa”, the safari style has become associated with adventure, travel and romance, and their heroines – with charm and noble femininity.
Svetlana Shatunova, designer of the SHATU brand, drew inspiration from the iconic images of Eva Gardner, Grace Kelly, Linda Kozlowski to create her new story. The designer mixes the silhouette shapes of the safari style of the 50s, 80s and 90s, combining them with the brand’s honed iconic models and complementing them with new shapes. So for the first time in the history of the brand, such elements as a cape, a cape, a form of trousers in an oriental style, a new form of sleeves and a jacket dress appear in the collection.
Traditionally, the brand uses premium European raw materials, relying on high-tech fabrics with new textures. Thanks to the right materials, familiar products take on a new meaning.
The show from the brand NARNY closed the second day of the fashion week. The new collection featured feminine dresses, raincoats, skirts and blouses. This season, the designer took Armenian ornaments and the alphabet as the basis for prints and embroideries. The idea of the collection is a conceptual and delicate combination of elements of the heritage of ancient Armenian culture and modern trends, silhouettes, shapes and colors.
Femininity and restraint are inherent in all collections of the brand. For each collection, the designer develops author’s prints for fabrics and hand-embroidered elements that have become a distinctive feature of NARNY products, as well as long flowing dresses that are the basis of the brand’s DNA.
