Top 5 job interview mistakes

When it comes to job interviews, first impressions really matter so make sure you plan ahead to avoid making these common interview mistakes

It’s essential to use this opportunity to showcase your best qualities and ensure that you’re memorable for all the right reasons. Nerves do play their part in the interview process, and everyone has areas that they could improve upon. However, more often than not it’s the most preventable errors that cost you the job.

1. Being unprepared

Preparation for an interview is crucial to arriving in a confident mood and feeling ready to tackle the interviewer’s questions. Read up on the company’s background, its place in the market and its competitors, and familiarise yourself with its key members. Make sure that you fully understand the role on offer. Failing to do so will make you look lazy and uninterested.

Being prepared also means figuring out how you’re going to get to your interview, planning your route and factoring in any delays you may encounter. There are no excuses for tardiness when it comes to job interviews so show your enthusiasm by arriving on time.

Sometimes delays are unavoidable and as long as the circumstances are out of your control, they shouldn’t take you out of the running. Take the details of your interview contact with you so you can let them know if you encounter any problems on your way.

For virtual interviews make sure all your technology works and is set up properly, have any log ins to hand and make sure all distractions are removed.

2. Dressing inappropriately

Being well presented is a must so choose your outfit carefully. Clothes should be clean and freshly ironed. Turning up in ripped jeans and a pair of trainers hardly gives a professional impression.

Knowing the type of company you have applied to should give you a clue as to the dress code. For example, in legal or business firms dress is usually more formal, while in creative companies or IT the dress code is more relaxed. However, if in doubt always err on the side of caution. It’s better to go too formal than not formal enough.

If you’d wear the same or a similar outfit on a night out or on the weekend you may want to rethink your choice. You need to make sure that you look the part and still feel confident.

3. Talking too much or not enough

Learning to strike a balance between talking too much and talking too little can be a challenge. Taking part in practice interviews with your university careers service can really help to ensure that you give the right amount of information.

Waffling is a common interview mistake and tends to be the result of nerves, so avoid talking about everything all at once. It’s important to sell your skills and experience without rambling. Once the interviewer asks a question, pause for a couple of seconds, take a breath and gather your thoughts before responding. If you’re talking too much or too fast, you also run the risk of talking over or interrupting the interviewer.

Not giving enough information and forgetting to mention important points can be just as detrimental as waffling. To make sure this doesn’t happen, practise answers to common interview questions beforehand and make sure you have a number of examples from your studies and previous work experience to draw upon.

Employers understand that nerves play a part in the process so, if your mind goes completely blank, politely ask for a couple of seconds to gather your thoughts or ask if it’s ok to come back to the question at the end, once you’ve had some time to think

4. Criticising previous employers or colleagues

Complaining about colleagues, drawing attention to the negative aspects of your previous or current job or moaning about your superiors are all likely to blow your chances of success.

This gives employers the wrong impression of you and makes them question what you’d say about them in similar circumstances.

No matter the reason for you leaving your previous or current employment, always be diplomatic. You don’t want potential employers to think of you as disloyal or complaining.

Instead of highlighting the mistakes of others, emphasise the positive steps you took in order to overcome them. This shows how proactive you can be.

5. Failing to ask questions

As the interview draws to a close the recruiter will ask if you have any questions you’d like to ask them. It’s never a good idea to say no. This is your opportunity to get answers to your queries about the role and the company so don’t waste it. Asking a couple of relevant questions shows your interest in the role. You could ask about any current projects your potential team is working on, progression opportunities, or where the company sees itself in five years’ time.

Avoid asking what the company does (you should have done your research), how much paid leave you’re entitled to or whether you’ve got the job. Also avoid asking a question if the answer has already been covered during the interview. Try where possible to prepare two or three questions – that way you’ve always got a backup.

How to succeed at interview

It’s all well and good knowing what not to do at an interview, but not much use if you don’t know what you should be doing to win the job.

Setting aside your nerves is easier said than done, but learning to conquer job interview jitters is important if you want to give the impression of confidence. Try to relax and show your natural personality – the employer will get a much better feel of how you’ll fit into their team if you do. Take comfort from the fact that if you’re being interviewed the recruiter is already impressed with what you have to offer, and after sifting through countless applications they’ll be rooting for you to do well.

Enthusiasm and a positive attitude also go a long way and instantly make a more appealing candidate. Throughout the interview, evidence and reiterate your motivation for the role and the company. Employers like forward thinking graduates who can commit so to really put yourself above the competition, talk about the future of the company and your role within it.

Another good tip is to observe the basics. It can be easy to underestimate the power of good manners, regular eye contact, a firm handshake or a smile. Be polite to everyone you come into contact with as you never know who might be on the selection panel.

How to prepare for an interview

In order to put in a good performance and secure the job you need to make sure you’re prepared. Take a look at these tips to get you interview ready

Types of interview

There are different types of job interview. In some cases, you’ll only need to succeed at one of these to land the role. In others, particularly at large graduate employers, you may face several interview formats throughout the application process.

  • Face-to face – the traditional and still most common form of interview. You’ll attend the employer’s office and be questioned on your suitability for the job by an individual or panel. Face-to-face interviews usually last between 45 minutes and two hours, and may be preceded or followed by tests and exercises. Questions may be strength-based or competency-based.
  • Telephone – often used by employers early in the application process to filter large numbers of applicants. If you’re successful, you’ll typically be invited to a face-to-face interview or assessment centre. Expect a telephone interview to last around half an hour.
  • Video – increasingly popular among large employers, particularly for applications to graduate schemes.  Video interviews can be live or pre-recorded and tend to last around half an hour.
  • Assessment centres – lasting a full day they enable employers to compare the performance of lots of candidates at the same time. You’ll attend an assessment centre with other applicants and take part in tasks such as presentations, team exercises and psychometric tests.

Interview research

Your performance in an interview depends, to a significant extent, on how well you prepare. Don’t leave this until the last minute. In the days leading up to the interview, focus your research on the:

  • Employer – you need to show that you understand the business beyond the basics. What sector does it operate in? What challenges does it face? Who are its competitors? What major projects has it recently completed? What are its culture and values? This kind of knowledge demonstrates a genuine interest.
  • Role – read the job description again and, if you completed an application form, go over it to refresh your memory of how your skills and qualifications match the job. It’s vital that you can explain why you want the job, that you understand the role and, even more importantly, why the employer should choose you over other candidates.
  • Interview panel – try to find out who will be interviewing you. The email inviting you to the interview may include this information. Use LinkedIn and the ‘About us’ section of the company website to find out more about their professional interests and experience. This may help you to connect with your interviewers and create a positive impression during the interview.
  • Questions – consider how you’ll answer common interview questions, as well as preparing some questions you’d like to ask the interviewer.

There are also some practical things to plan. When and where is the interview taking place? Have you planned your journey and checked the timetables for any public transport you need to take? Does all your equipment work for video and telephone interviews?

Getting a good nights sleep and having a healthy breakfast on the morning of your interview will stand you in good stead. If your interview is scheduled after lunchtime, make sure you eat something even if you’re feeling nervous – you won’t put in your best performance on an empty stomach.

Practice job interviews

It’s a good idea to do at least one mock interview before the real thing. Your university careers and employability service will help you to practice your interview technique.

You can also write and practise answers to common interview questions with someone you trust – possibly even recording yourself and then reviewing your performance.

It’s also worth testing your telephone connection and making sure that your laptop, microphone and any other technical equipment you need is working, and you know how to use them.

What to take

  • pen and notebook
  • your CV and interview invitation
  • your academic certificates and work examples if requested
  • photo ID
  • breath mints or gum
  • a bottle of water
  • money for transport and food.

In addition, for online interviews you may also need:

  • laptop/computer
  • headset/earphones
  • microphone
  • log in for the software you need to use.

What to wear to an interview

While many employers expect candidates to dress smartly, a growing number encourage casual wear at work, making it trickier than ever to choose an interview outfit.

What you’ll be expected to wear depends on factors such as the size of the company, the industry it operates in and the culture it promotes. For example, a small creative agency may have different standards to a major accountancy firm.

If you’re unsure on the dress code, ask before attending the interview. The key point to remember is that it’s better to be too smart than too casual. Only opt for a more casual outfit if you’re certain that’s acceptable – if there’s any doubt, go for smart business attire. Whatever you choose, make sure that your clothes are ironed and your shoes are clean.

For telephone and online interviews make sure you dress as though the interview is in person. Sitting in your tracksuit bottoms trying to act professional probably isn’t going to go too well.

4 ways to make a good impression

As you’re preparing for the interview, think about ways you can show yourself in a positive light:

  1. Punctuality – arriving late will increase your stress levels and give the employer a bad first impression, so do your best to arrive in good time.
  2. Positivity and enthusiasm – be polite and professional with any staff you meet before or after the interview and, if you’re feeling particularly nervous, remind yourself that the worst thing that could happen is not getting the job. During the interview, respond to questions with positive statements, be enthusiastic about the job and avoid badmouthing your previous employers or university tutors.
  3. Body language – give a firm handshake to your interviewer(s) before and after the session. Once you’re seated, sit naturally without slouching in your chair or leaning on the desk. Throughout the interview, remember to smile frequently and maintain eye contact.
  4. Clarity – answer all questions clearly and concisely, evidencing your most relevant skills, experiences and achievements. It’s acceptable to pause before answering a difficult question to give yourself thinking time, or asking for clarification if you’re unsure what a question means. When answering, don’t speak too quickly.

After the interview

As your job interview comes to an end, make sure you find out when you’ll be informed of the outcome – and thank the interviewer for giving you the chance to attend.

Make some notes about the questions that were asked and how you answered them while the interview is still fresh in your memory. This will help you prepare even better for future interviews.

There are three potential outcomes:

  • Success – if you’re offered the job, make sure it’s right for you by discussing it with friends and family, and double-check details such as the salary before deciding whether to accept.
  • Rejection – if you’re unsuccessful, don’t be too downhearted as graduate employers receive large numbers of applications for every role. Email the company to thank them for the opportunity and request feedback from your interview so that you can improve your performance next time.
  • Further steps – interviews are typically the final stage in the application process, but if the employer has not been able to make a decision you may be asked back for a second interview.

Five questions that you should definitely ask the employer at the interview

The interview is in full swing, and you have already managed to tell about your education, achievements and explain why you would like to work in this particular company. What to add to consolidate success and make the right career decision? It is very important to ask the right questions about future work. Moreover, their sequence (which question to ask first, and which one is better not to rush) also matters.

In order not to miss the vacancy of your dreams, read the recommendations of Superjob.ru.

Question one: about the content of the job

Of course, during the interview, you have probably already discussed what your duties will be. In addition, this is usually described in the job advertisement. Therefore, in your question, you need to clarify what remained unclear in the functionality.

For example, you apply for a position as a PR manager in an existing public relations department. Specify what exactly your role will be in establishing PR communications. What is more important for a specialist accepted into the team – to be a competent and creative writer of texts or a talented organizer?

Another example is an interview for a sales assistant in a perfume shop. You have already discussed that the duties will include advising customers, working with the cash register and displaying goods. Specify how exactly it is customary to advise customers on the trading floor – to wait for their questions or to present information about the assortment of the store yourself?

Questions about functionality must be asked, even if everything seems clear and understandable to you: this will emphasize your high motivation and show the recruiter that he is a responsible and professional person.

Question two: about the objectives

Be sure to ask about the strategic objectives of your future work. What does the future employer expect from you, say, in an annual perspective? What are the criteria for assessing the effectiveness of your work?

For example, an applicant for a sales manager job might ask what the sales plan for next year is. Human Resources Inspector Candidate – Ask about anticipated headcount growth and therefore workload.

This will show that you can think strategically and plan your activities. In addition, a clear understanding of their tasks in the company is a real career engine. You will always be able to independently evaluate your work, applying the performance criteria agreed upon at the interview.

Question three: how to quickly join the team

Be sure to ask what your first working days will be like. Is there an introductory briefing or training? Will you have a mentor to turn to for any question? What are the criteria by which the success of the probationary period will be assessed?

This question is especially important if the job will be something new to you. For example, if you used to work in a small company, and now you have come to an international corporation. Or if you were engaged in PR in the field of retail, and now in the restaurant business.

Question four: why did this vacancy appear?

The answer to this question may give you food for thought. If the vacancy is new, then you will have to draw up a work schedule yourself and discuss in detail the responsibilities, as well as strategic goals with the head and HR manager. You will also have to think about the means to achieve these goals – after all, the vacancy is new, and this work has not been done before you.

If the position has existed in the company for a long time, pay attention to the reasons for the dismissal of the previous employee. Of course, they can be very different – a specialist found a more interesting job, failed to cope with his duties, went on parental leave, or was even fired for unethical behavior … a delicate matter, but it is still worth asking and pondering. If five people have left the position you are interested in in a year, it is worth looking for additional information about the company and the atmosphere in the team.

Question five: salary, vacation, lunch…

Don’t rush these questions – ask them at the very end of your meeting, discussing all the responsibilities, tasks and work plan. Superjob.ru has already talked about how to talk with a potential employer about money. The main thing is to adequately assess your own value in the labor market and not overestimate the importance of a lunch break in your career.

We wish you not only to ask the right questions at the interview, but also to hear the answers that suit you.

What interview questions should you ask an employer?

  • #Interview
  • #Job and Career

During a job interview, there comes a time when the hiring manager gives the candidate the opportunity to ask all the questions that interest him. One of the biggest mistakes job seekers make is not asking questions.

As search and recruitment specialists, we always advise candidates not only to prepare for the interview by studying information about the company, but also to be ready to ask questions. This is your chance to better understand your potential employer, the culture of the company, as well as show your high interest in the job.

  • – Have I answered all your questions? Do you need to clarify/detail anything?

With this question, the interviewer can clarify any additional details regarding your candidacy and dispel any doubts about your professionalism. This is a good way to understand if the interviewer has doubts about your candidacy and resolve them right away.

  • – What are the next steps in the recruitment process?

This question further demonstrates your interest. It will also help you determine when, from whom, and where to expect a response, and will give you an idea of when you should contact the company if they don’t respond to you. Follow-up questions: what is the work schedule, who will I meet next, are there any assignments / tests that I should be ready for?

  • – What does the succession plan look like for this role?

The information you get from this question will help you understand your career prospects within the company and help you make an informed decision when applying for this position.

  • – What will be my key goals/objectives that I need to achieve in this role?

You are hired for your experience and skills to achieve a specific goal. If we talk about it openly, then the likely results will be obvious to both sides. In addition, when you start working, you already have a clear idea of what and why you are doing in this company.

  • – Are there any difficulties in the work of the department at the moment or are there any changes taking place now?

This defines the role of your department and your role in the organization. Whether you’re being hired as part of a digital transformation or a merger that creates a new line of business, it can help you better understand the relevance of your expertise to an employer. This information will help you position yourself as a strategic asset within the business.

Remember that your questions to the interviewer are an important part of the interview.

AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED

We’re so proud!

Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.

SCHOOL-READY

What Learning Looks Like

Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.

Woodridge South KinderCare Programs

Infant Programs (6 weeks-1 year)

Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.

Toddler Programs (1-2 Years)

Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.

Discovery Preschool Programs (2-3 Years)

This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.

Preschool Programs (3-4 Years)

This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!

Prekindergarten Programs (4-5 Years)

When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.

Before- and After-School Programs (5-12 Years)

You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!

School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)

Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5-12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.

Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program

Music Explorers™ (2-4 Years)

KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.

Phonics Adventures® (2-4 Years)

Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)

Our Teachers

We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.

Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!

A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH

An Artist’s Heart

“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.

We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.

Employers strongly favor students that clerk for judges and aggressively recruit individuals that have held a clerkship. In fact, many firms will give students one to two years “credit” toward the firm’s requirement to make partner if they complete a judicial clerkship before beginning work with the firm. Law schools also strongly favor professor candidates that have held a judicial clerkship. Clerking for a judge will open many doors in the legal community.

One advantage of clerking is the insight it provides into the judicial process. A clerkship provides a student first-hand knowledge of how the court works and what a judge does on the bench. This learning experience gives valuable insight into those issues the judge finds interesting. A clerk is exposed to judicial proceedings, performing legal research, preparing bench memoranda, and drafting orders and opinions. These skills are invaluable to anyone planning to practice law or teach.

Improved research and writing skills are also major benefits of a judicial clerkship. Judicial clerks research real issues and act as the “right arm” of the judge. Challenging issues of law require clerks to “think outside the box” and hone their analytical skills. The large amount of writing done during the clerkship under the careful supervision of a judge results in clerks gaining superior writing skills. These skills are sought after by the legal employers and rewarded when the clerkship is over. A clerkship also teaches a student how to write for a new audience: the judge. This is an important skill for a practitioner.

Judicial clerks usually serve a one- or two-year term, but career clerkships are becoming more common. Both types of clerking opportunities are covered by Social Security and are eligible for benefits. Some judges also appoint temporary clerks. These clerkships usually last less than a year and occur due to a clerk being needed in an emergency situation or to cover the remaining months for another clerk who is unable to complete their clerkship. Another option is to apply for staff attorney positions with a court. These attorneys work for the entire court and are not assigned to a particular judge. Although these positions may not be as prestigious as a clerkship, many attorneys find these positions to be very rewarding long-term career opportunities.

Clerkship salaries are reasonable, but not as competitive with salaries being offered by medium and large law firms; however, they offer excellent benefits. Law school graduates obtaining a federal clerkship should expect to be classified a JSP-11 and receive a starting salary of $65,000 or higher. If a new federal law clerk is a member of any state bar and has at least one year of full-time legal work experience, he/she could be classified as a JSP-12 with a starting salary of $78,000 or higher. (These pay scales are for the Dayton area.) To confirm starting salaries for federal clerkships, check the U.S. court system’s website. Salaries for state appellate clerkships typically range from $45,000 to $60,000 to start.

Circuit court judges do not begin interviewing students until early fall of the third year. Although not required to follow this rule, most District court judges are honoring the third year hiring guideline. To determine when the federal judge are hiring, visit to the federal law clerk website. The site provides a national database of law clerk vacancies, position information and application requirements.

When you apply for judicial clerkships, it is important that you use the proper format in your cover letters and envelopes, so we have put together a cover letter and envelope guide for you to follow.

Judges set their own qualification requirements for their law clerks. However, given the extensive amount of research and writing required of judicial clerks, most judges will prefer candidates on law review who performed well in law school. Federal clerkships are heavily sought after by top law students across the country. Federal judges, even at the district court level, receive hundreds of applications each year. Given the large number of students that apply for clerkships, interested candidates hoping to obtaining a clerkship should consider applying to as many judges as possible and not overlook great opportunities in less popular locations in the United States.

State court judges, particularly those that practice on the trial level or lower appellate level, tend to ease their requirements for law school candidates and look to other factors including work experience and place of residence. Often state judges will prefer to hire students that either live or attend law school in the state where the clerkship is available. Many state court judges, both on the trial and appellate level, begin interviewing potential clerks the fall of the candidates’ third year of law school.

Trial vs.

Appellate

Clerking for a trial judge provides great exposure to the public and to attorneys in the local community. A trial court clerk will be introduced to the mechanics of a lawsuit, drafting entries and a fast-paced work environment. Trial court clerks are under more pressure than appellate clerks to quickly complete work due to the evidence flow. The result is that work product is often less formal due to the rush to keep up with the docket.

Clerks that work for appellate judges are involved with cases after the trial process is complete. These clerks will find greater emphasis on formal writing and citation. Because the court only hears appeals, an appellate clerk will have limited interaction with the general population and be exposed to a more narrowly defined group of attorneys who specialize in appellate arguments.

Federal vs. State

Federal court clerkships are available with the U.S. District Court, Circuit Courts and the Supreme Court. There are also opportunities to work for federal magistrate judges hired by district court judges in both civil and criminal law areas. Clerking opportunities also exist in U.S. Bankruptcy Courts and in various specialty courts such as the Court of International Trade and the Court of Federal Claims. Another option is to clerk for an administrative law judge employed by one of the federal agencies. Current law clerk vacancies with the federal bench are available on the federal law clerk website.

State courts offer clerkship opportunities at the trial and appellate levels. State trial courts and appellate courts usually interview students for clerkship positions during the third year of law school. Some states have specialty courts that students should consider applying to based on the area of interest.

Two resources are helpful for students interested in state court clerkships. The Vermont Law School Guide to State Judicial Clerkship Procedures lists state court clerkship information for the highest court, mid-level court and trial court for each of the 50 states.  The second useful resource is Want’s Federal-State Court Directory, which  provides an overview for each state of the court system, state judiciary websites, state supreme court justices, supreme court administrators and state attorneys general. The Want’s Directory is available in the CSO.

Students are strongly encouraged to set realistic goals and understand the high degree of competition associated with getting a judicial clerkship. Your credentials of the student, prestige of the court, and location of the clerkship should all be considered when determining where to apply.

Applying for judicial clerkships is both time-consuming and expensive. Judges will not pay for any fees associated with the interview process, so if you are requested to interview with the judge, you will carry the entire burden of travel costs.

Certain courts in the United States are more prestigious than others, and some judges are known for being active jurists. Clerkships for these types of courts and judges are difficult to obtain due to the high number of qualified students applying for them. There are also certain courts that receive many applications from students due to their location. For example, clerkships in Washington D.C., New York and California are difficult to obtain due to the large number of students desiring to work in those locations.

Students are strongly encouraged to seek out clerkships with judges that have ties with UDSL. While researching clerkships, students are also encouraged to apply to judges in states where they live or where they go to school since many judges often want to hire clerks with a connection to the location where they sit.

To research judges, the Almanac of the Federal Judiciary, The American Bench and the Judicial Yellow Book will provide necessary information. LexisNexis and Westlaw are also useful research tools for judicial clerkships. Students are also encouraged to continue to monitor new appointments to the bench since these judges will need to hire clerks and given the date of the appointment, may not receive as many resumes as other judges.

Each judge will have different requirements and deadlines so you should review the clerkship resources available in the Career Services Office. If no resources are available for a particular judge, you will need to call the judge’s chambers and ask whether that judge will be hiring and what information will need to be submitted for the application process. Typically, a judge will request a cover letter, resume, transcript(s), writing sample, and two to three letters of recommendation.

The CSO organizes programs each fall on applying for judicial clerkships. Stop by the CSO for more information.

What benefits does FedEx offer?

FedEx offers a comprehensive benefits program to all full-time employees, which includes excellent health insurance coverage, financial benefits, retirement planning, paid time off, and numerous discounts.

FedEx has a group insurance or benefits program for which the company pays the entire premium amount. Employees become eligible to claim extended dental and health coverage after they’ve worked there for 90 days. The dental plan covers preventative care and specialist dental work for employees and their dependents, while the vision plan pays for vision-related medical equipment and vision exams.

They also receive special discounts on movies, malls, sports zones, golf clubs, amusement parks, publications, newspapers, and more. They also cover the cost of transportation to and from work.

FedEx Health Insurance Benefits

Like other employers, FedEx offers health insurance to full-time employees. However, these benefits only extend to part-time workers who’ve worked at least 1000 hours.

Full-time employees receive full health benefits that also cover dental and vision from Cigna Health Insurance. Typically, these benefits start 90 days after being hired, which inevitably prevents seasonal staff from applying.

FedEx Retirement Plans

In 2020, FedEx previously used a pension plan closed to new hires, but this was replaced with a new 401k benefits plan.

As of 2021, the 401k retirement plan is in effect. This means that if you choose to contribute 6% of your earnings as an optional contribution, FedEx will contribute an additional 8% to match. However, the downside is that employees have lost their guaranteed 5% contribution that they would receive without donating their own money.

FedEx Employee Discounts

Given that FedEx is a delivery service, the company offers several useful discounts to employees. These include:

  • 10% on select FedEx Home Delivery services

  • 20% on select FedEx Ground services

  • 25% on select FedEx Express international shipping services

  • 29% on select FedEx Express U.S. services

  • 78% on select FedEx Freight services

FedEx Parental Leave

FedEx offers wedding leave, maternity leave, and paternity leave. Expecting mothers and fathers will receive 50 weeks of paid maternity leave, 50 weeks of unpaid maternity leave, and two weeks of paid paternity leave. Mothers can choose to decline the unpaid leave if they wish.

FedEx Education

FedEx does offer college tuition aid, but these benefits are minor. For example, part-time FedEx employees can earn up to $1,500-$2,500 per calendar year, depending on their position and hours worked. This money can go toward tuition reimbursement.

However, FedEx will not provide this benefit if you’ve accepted any other form of financial aid, making it tenuous at best.

Though, on the GED side, FedEx does allow employees to earn full reimbursement for specific courses.

FedEx Bonuses

According to current and former employees, FedEx bonuses do not go to hourly employees and are only given to managers. The annual incentive program for managers centers around base salary and can range anywhere between. 3-15%.

  • Counseling. FedEx provides free access to counselors that can talk you through work-related grievances or other issues.

They want to offer benefits to employers for the employment of disabled people and large families

About 1.5 million families with many children, 12 million people with disabilities, the poor, refugees and other citizens in need of support will become the object of social entrepreneurs. This implies a government bill, which the State Duma plans to consider in the second reading in mid-May. The deputies and experts in the press center of the Parliamentary Newspaper reflected on its features and goals.

Which of the businessmen will be considered “social”

World experience shows that in developed countries about 25 percent of entrepreneurs are classified as social. In our country, there are much fewer of them – according to the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, no more than one percent, and their contribution to the gross domestic product is only about 0.56 percent. This disproportion, according to Dmitry Sazonov , Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship, is largely a consequence of the fact that the legal status of a social entrepreneur, as well as the list of socially significant activities, has not been defined and fixed until recently by law.

Dmitry Sazonov. Photo: PG/Igor Samokhvalov

The Government’s draft law eliminates this legal gap, systematizes and classifies the relevant areas of economic activity. But not only: socially vulnerable categories of citizens are also described in legal terms, to the protection or support of which social entrepreneurship should be directed. Quite specific measures are also envisaged to support this special type of business: first of all, it is planned to allocate quotas with the participation of social entrepreneurs in competitions for the purchase of goods or services held by companies with state participation, as well as to provide preferential rental rates for real estate, loans at a reduced interest rate and create other economic incentives. The most important criterion, according to which a businessman will receive social status and be included in a special register of the Ministry of Finance, will be the staffing of a small or medium-sized enterprise – at least half of the employees must have the status of socially unprotected, and their salary fund cannot be less than 25 percent of the total.

The categories of such citizens are listed in the draft law: disabled people, parents with many children, parents of disabled children, refugees released from places of deprivation of liberty, and some others. Thus, according to preliminary estimates, up to a million jobs can be created without direct budget investment.

If you work for society, get benefits

An innovation that is also planned to be introduced by law to support social business is the introduction of certificates for the purchase of goods and services for socially vulnerable categories of the population. Having received such a document for a certain amount, a citizen presents it to an enterprise or firm registered in the register of the Ministry of Finance as a social one, and receives a service or product that the supplier is ultimately paid for by the local or federal budget.

“I want to give this daycare a five star rating because they deserve it. It was my first day of class and I had no one to keep my son and they allowed my son to drop in for the day and the price was very very affordable! You don’t find things like this everywhere so the fact that they took him in was so awesome thank you ladies so much!” – Arianna K.

    Moscow

We came to Sun School “Sky Fort” kindergarten in the summer of 2022.
I was very worried about my daughter’s adaptation in kindergarten, it was our first experience and, as a result, very successful! Many thanks to the whole team for their sincere love for children and respect for parents. Special thanks for the excellent program, classes are always very interesting and informative, watching the child on CCTV cameras is a pleasure)
Initially, I did not have the task of giving the child for the whole day, I was more interested in classes in the first half of the day, but seeing how well, comfortable and interesting the child was, I decided to give the child for a full day in the near future. After all, now Alexandra cries only when we leave kindergarten))

French philosopher analyzed the causes of the current riots – InoTV

Despite its magnitude, the unrest that continues in France is by no means unprecedented: in one form or another, this problem, primarily due to migration policy, has been manifesting itself for forty years, writes French philosopher Jean-Loup Bonami. Nevertheless, as the thinker emphasizes in his article for Le Figaro, the country’s authorities have all this time shown inertia and refuse to deal with the causes behind the riots. According to Bonami, this is also due to the “neoliberal” system that has been established in France.

A wave of riots is again sweeping through the cities of France, which, as some politicians fear, may still result in popular protests, French philosopher Jean-Loup Bonami writes in Le Figaro. Meanwhile, in order to make a correct diagnosis for the country, it is necessary to establish exactly what is really a catastrophe – and it is not the riots themselves and not the state of the urban environment, but “inertia” , which the French authorities have been demonstrating for forty years now, convinced Bonami. ” Despite all the warning signs, no lessons are being learned, no change of course is taking place, and no jumps are being initiated, , the author laments. — Those theoretical calculations of intellectuals and useless practical methods, which give rise to crises, still persist. And already now you can bet that, despite the current turmoil, no steps will be taken and we will continue in the same spirit.

As Bonami recalls, the first large-scale disturbances in the recent history of France occurred as early as 1979 – and since then flared up regularly, including in 2005, when cities burned across the country for three weeks, and in order to finally stabilize the situation, it was necessary to declare a state of emergency, which Paris had not resorted to since Algerian war. It was around this time that Nael was born, the young man whose murder during his arrest sparked the current wave of unrest. And yet, although the French authorities have heard “alarm bells” for so long , nothing has changed – on the contrary, the state of affairs has only worsened, the thinker believes.

According to the author, Paris should have discussed everything honestly and taken drastic measures even after the 2005 riots. According to the philosopher, the government should have increased the number of places in penitentiary institutions, as the current President Emmanuel Macron promised to do during the election campaign in 2017, review the urban development policy, and most importantly, stop immigration. The current unrest was at least partly provoked by poorly controlled immigration, which was not accompanied by sufficient efforts to integrate newcomers into French society – due to the fact that no one stopped the migration flows, efforts in this regard turned into Sisyphean labor, because as soon as the inhabited predominantly one family was chosen as the migrants of the quarter, and a new family of people who had just moved to France immediately settled in its place, Bonami explains.

“In the interests of both the country as a whole and the inhabitants of the city suburbs, it was necessary even after the riots of 2005 to ban the entry of migrants who do not have a sufficiently serious education in order to be able to devote all our funds and all our attention to , who already lives in the suburbs, – the author argues. – So we could reduce the level of tension in terms of providing them with jobs and salaries, affordable housing and public services (for this system, migrants become a serious test). We could also facilitate their socio-cultural integration, contain the formation of ethnic-cultural enclaves, and gradually reduce the population of the places. If migration flows had been stopped back in 2005, there would be no unrest today.” .

However, instead of such steps, French politics shows only “eternal return” , playing the same spectacle over and over again, which only creates the illusion of novelty, but without taking any real action, laments Bonami. “Medically speaking, the severity of the case is not due to what the disease is, but to the fact that it is not treated, ,” he writes. — All countries face difficulties and crises, because these difficulties represent the way history moves. The difference of modern France – and this is really a very disturbing point – is the absence of any reaction to the crisis.0462 .

According to Bonami, French politicians are still looking in the wrong direction, believing that the root of the problem of the suburbs lies in the suburbs themselves; At the same time, the left forces talk about “racism” on the part of law enforcement agencies, and the right – about “Francophobia” and the conflict of civilizations, thus playing the usual roles. But in fact, the question is not why riots break out in the suburbs, but why France cannot solve this problem in any way, the thinker emphasizes. “The problem is not in the suburbs, the problem is in us” , he explains.

The French authorities are showing similar inertia in other matters: for example, although the coronavirus pandemic has revealed a lot of problems within the healthcare system, France has not solved them and remains ill-prepared for a new large-scale epidemic. The same is with the speeches of the “yellow vests” – Mr. Macron simply threw money at this problem, without understanding its cause, the author lists.

According to Bonami, the reason for this inertia is the complete collapse of the political and media class of France and the low cultural level of the current elites, who do not know history well and are not capable of serious analytical work. The country’s leadership has made the well-known dictum of the French statesman Henri Cay as their motto: “There is no such problem that the absence of a solution would not eventually allow to resolve” , the author ironically.

In addition, the political class of France made a fundamental choice in favor of neo-liberalism – that is, a system in which the “government of the people” should be replaced by the “power of things” , a system of pre-formulated procedures, the philosopher believes.

    Day Care Centers Site

More and more in today’s world both parents have employment and need suitable day care centers for their children. These early stages in a child’s life are very important to their growth and development. Choosing a good child day care center is vital, one where the adult won’t just plunk your children down in front of a soap opera all day and feed them Top Ramen. You should look for day care centers that provide learning programs and playtime for your child, along with a safe and healthy environment.

There are many different types of day care centers, ranging from basic nurseries to preschools that will provide more of a learning environment for your children. Some day care centers specialize in a specific age range, while others are more open. When you’re contemplating placing your child in a specific day care center, you should visit each one with your child. In this way, you can see how your child reacts to the other children who are there and to the caregiver. You want your child to be happy and comfortable.

While some day care centers provide a greater variety of activities than others, any good day care center is going to encourage positive interaction among all of the children. They will also have rules that promote good behavior, learning, manners, and child development. You certainly don’t want to have to worry that your child is going to develop bad habits from day care.

Providing the child care and day care services:Day Care Center / Nursery, Child Care Provider

While you don’t need to go overboard in choosing suitable day care centers, you should approach the subject seriously and with thought. Your child is going to be spending a good-sized portion of his or her life in day cares and you want to make sure it is going to be a positive experience. Family is the most important thing in the world and you should make sure that your children are your first priority.
When you are considering a day care center, you should look at where it is located and how much it costs. There’s not much sense in putting your son or daughter in daycare so that you can work full time and spending most of what you earn on the day care center’s tuitions and your travel expenses. If that’s the case, you might as well stay home with your child. However, if you do truly need the money, there are usually plenty of day care services available and it shouldn’t be too difficult to find one close by that is reasonably priced.

Different Kinds of Child day Care Centers

While child day care centers are common, there is such a huge demand for this service that there are now quite a variety of options available other than basic day care. These include the following:

    • Home child care or family childcare
    • Child care services
    • Preschool
    • Nursery

Home child care tends to be the most popular option because it is generally more affordable and a smaller environment. While some day care centers are quite large and can provide better early childhood education, it is also more difficult for each child to receive personal attention. Day care centers that are based out of someone’s home are usually more personal and your child can receive more care and nurturing. Most parents want their children to be receiving love and affection, the care that they themselves would give them. They don’t want a day care business that is merely going to make sure that their child is still alive and adequately healthy.

Home child care providers are also more adaptable, generally speaking. This means that if your child likes a certain song sung to them before they take their nap each day, the home care provider is more likely to be willing to do that than someone in a larger day care facility. Most adult home child care providers are parents themselves, making them better able to understand and love your child.

    Other Things to Think About

One of the first steps you should take after picking out a family day care center that you think will be suitable for your child is do a little investigating. This can involve talking to the parents of the other children that use the child day care center to see what they think about it. You should also always check to make sure the child care service you are considering is legally licensed to operate in your state. Licensing officials check criminal records and ensure that the child care provider has emergency response training and a safe and healthy environment for the children.
As mentioned earlier, it is a good idea to visit the child day care center that you are considering. You should do this at least a couple of times, and try to go at different times of the day so that you can get a better idea of what kind of schedule they have. This will help you to see how your own child would fit in.
If you are having difficulties finding the appropriate child care environment for your son or daughter, there are some other options. Some people get family and friends to help out, while others hire a nanny. Adult nannies are a good option because they ensure that your child receives personal attention and quality child care. However, this also means that your child will not receive as much social interaction since he or she won’t have other children to play with like in a family day care center.

No matter what option you decide to go with, make sure that you know who you are leaving your child with.  Meet them, get to know them, and let your child do the same. Do some research on the internet to make sure that no one has had negative experiences with the day care center you are considering. Check to make sure that they are legally licensed. Once you have done all of this, you can feel more confident and secure in knowing that you have chosen the right day care center for your child.

    Switching Day Care Centers

    Choosing Another Child Care Provider

So you want to switch day care providers for your kids but you don’t know where to start or what to choose among the plethora of options out there in this world. It is fittingly one of the most important decisions of a young parent’s journey due to the fact that a child’s first formative years up until the age of six is critical. It is important for parents to not just consider the monetary impact of these choices but also the emotional, intellectual, and social future impacts the choice of a day care provider will have on their kids in the long term future. So let’s discuss some general tips to consider for the parent and the child to consider when one is looking to switch day care providers within a short time frame.

First, you must consider the cost of attending some of the more prestigious and rigorous day care provider centers in your area. In some areas, let’s face the reality that the more money per month per child spent; the better the facilities and the educational value experience offered for your child. Things such as using smart boards and I Pad’s to enhance the learning experience is a very real possibility in these places. However, if a parent is budget conscious they can still afford this experience but it would mean cutting back on all or most non-necessity spending. This would include curbing your eating out habits as well as any leisure entertainment or travel activity and place that money instead into your child’s future day care home. If an expensive day care sees that you are making an effort to keep up with the payments; then they will be more willing to work with you and not let your child leave that place. For a child going to this environment, they need to consider whether or not they will fit into this environment, things like playtime, feeding time, and individual care of the staff- is it received well by the child? These will make the difference between choosing these ones or a cheaper alternative. Cheaper is not all bad if the quality and availability of care is there for your child in the first place.

Secondly, you need to consider your travel times and distance of day care relative to your work and other important places like the hospital, grocery store, bank, and places that you frequent on a daily basis. Is it near enough that you can get to your child should he/she become ill or need special attention so that the day care center can contact you and arrange a meeting with you the same day if needed.

Furthermore, you need to consider the overall cleanliness and friendliness of the day care center provider. Do not underestimate a clean environment for your kid to play and learn in with other kids. Your kid will enjoy making new friends in a clean and safe environment. Plus you as a parent will enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that your child will not be being home any unwanted germs and diseases into your house. Parents must also consider if there is a dispute over payment and care; how does the management and staff deal with such requests? If there is a lackadaisical approach to your core issues; then that is a bad prelude of things to come concerning your child’s care. Your child will probably feel like he/she is being neglected or not fed on time and will start to complain to you ever so slightly that something is not right. When they do, do not hesitate to take them out of that day care center and find another one immediately.

In a recessionary economy, it is okay and permissible for both parents and kids to demand the best care for their dollar. Make your day care dollar stretch by reading all of the material and brochures and visiting every day center on your list until you find that perfect fit for your child. It’s out there; it is just waiting on you to find it!

Child Care Options for Low Income Families

One of the most frustrating aspects of being a working citizen is not having the ability to afford childcare. The majority of day care facilities charge as much as $300 per week for each child. That amount is difficult for middle-class citizens to pay. Low-income families cannot fathom paying such an expense. Luckily, the government and the various states have developed programs that help low-income families get the childcare they deserve. The following is some information on those programs:

    Extended Day Program

The extended day program can assist low-income working parents during the regular school year. Many school districts offer this program. The school keeps children before and after school hours for a small monthly fee. A parent can drop a child off as early as 7:00 a.m. and pick the child up as late as 6:00 p.m. This program is excellent for low-income workers with daytime weekday jobs. The cost is approximately $150 per month for before and after school. The weekly rate is approximately $37.50, which is extremely competitive.

The attendants participate in various activities with the children before and after school. They help the children with their homework so that the parents have less stress when they come home from work. They give the children a full breakfast in the morning program and a snack in the evening program. Parents can opt to pay for the morning program only, the evening program only, or both programs. The evening program is the more expensive of the two because it lasts so many hours after the school releases the children. The evening program is $100 while the morning program is $52.

    The Child Care Assistance Program

CCAP is a special program that provides childcare assistance to certain low-income families. People who are collecting TANF are automatically eligible to receive this assistance. Teenage parents who are working on obtaining their educations are also eligible for CCAP. Those who are not collecting TANF can still qualify if they are pursuing education that will improve their work skills and job opportunities. Parents can apply for CCAP assistance with the Department of Children & Family Services. The financial guidelines for qualification are along the lines of a $3,000 per month income threshold for a four-person family. The applicant must have proof of income, social security cards, birth certificates, and immunization records for all children. Application processing can take up to 30 days.

    Head Start

Head start is a program for children between the ages of three and five. The program provides childcare services and medical services to the children who qualify. It is funded by the Administration of Children’s Services. The Head Start program covers childcare from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teachers work with the children to fine-tune their social and developmental skills. Those who are interested in the program may apply online. Applicants go on a waitlist until there is an available slot in the program. It is best for an interested person to complete an application as quickly as possible since the wait may be extended.

    Child Care Voucher Program

The Child Care Voucher Program is in effect in many states throughout the United States. It provides a subsidy of up to 95 percent of childcare cost to low-income families. Subsidy recipients will choose an eligible provider from the list of licensed providers. They may also select a relative or an in-home provider. The Child Care Voucher Program covers the childcare from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. This is known as the traditional childcare period. However, the program also covers non-traditional times for parents who work odd shifts. It covers nights, weekends, and evenings.

A wide variety of options is available for low-income childcare. Many stay-at-home moms also run small day care businesses in which they discount their services. There is a way to make working and taking care of your children affordable.

The head of a kindergarten in Yekaterinburg spoke about terrible salaries and a shortage of nannies – April 30, 2023

Nannies have to be torn into two groups of kids in order to somehow earn a living

    Share

9 0002 The head of one of the kindergartens in the Verkh-Isetsky district of Yekaterinburg told why no one goes to work with small children. It is in this area that there is an acute shortage of nannies, and for good reason: junior teaching staff have extremely low salaries, and all benefits were canceled back in 2013. Who wants to work for a penny?

In order to somehow survive, nannies have to be torn between two groups of babies, and the quality of childcare suffers from this. Read the manager’s story about the acute shortage of personnel. Further – from the first person.

My kindergarten is sorely lacking staff. And the reason is not that the leader is a tyrant, we have a very friendly team, but people go after the money. Now I’m talking about junior service personnel, not about pedagogical ones.

I analyzed the salaries of nannies in different districts of Yekaterinburg, because it was not clear to me why my people were fleeing, for example, to the Zheleznodorozhny district. And there are more salaries.

And in order for people to get more, they have to work for several rates. That is, imagine, one teacher for two groups. And at the same time, their second rate is not 18,600, it is paid from a salary that is only 12,400. The nannies have an eight-hour working day, that is, they come later and leave earlier than the educators.

In the Leninsky district, only salaries of 17,000 plus incentives, but in my case they generally receive 17,000 in general, and minus taxes – only 16,000.

There are also special requirements for nannies: secondary vocational education and no criminal record : Yury Orlov / City portals

    Share

The situation is terrible and very difficult, I’m talking about the Verkh-Isetsky district, and we are already howling like a wolf.

At the moment I am working at a loss, that is, I am taking money from the fund to pay people’s salaries. We have a big, good area, but people don’t want to work for that kind of money, and it’s understandable why. Now I have only four nannies left in the kindergarten for 12 groups.

And you understand that you can’t hire anyone to work with children. This requires secondary specialized education, refresher courses, medical examination. But okay, we conduct a medical examination at our own expense and pay for courses, but this is not enough if a person has completed only nine classes.

And if earlier we had vouchers, free education in kindergarten for children of junior teachers and we could somehow lure them, now there is nothing at all. Only a good attitude, which you will not be full of.

Every morning I start with the fact that I open the labor exchange and call people. But the conversation quickly ends at the stage when I name the address and salary level. Already at my own expense, I hung ads wherever possible.

And I’m not the only one. We raised these issues at the meeting, a dead number, all to no avail. Everything depends on the numbers of the city.

Recall that earlier Vice Mayor Yekaterina Sibirtseva said that the mayor’s office intends to return benefits for nannies, but for this it is necessary that the issue be raised at the regional level. In 2013, junior caregivers had the right to have their child out of turn go to the kindergarten where the mother works.

Earlier, another manager and an employee of a private security company told who and how guards kids in kindergartens in Yekaterinburg.

Previously, Yekaterinburg City Hall named the district where the situation with places in kindergartens is the worst (and this is not Akademichesky). But in a kindergarten on the outskirts of the city, there is another problem: a real war broke out there because of a mother who writes batches of complaints – and for a reason: after her appeals, several violations were discovered.

In the Urals village of Beloyarsky, a kindergarten was suddenly closed for repairs without warning the parents in advance.
