COVID-19 POLICY

If you have any symptoms related to Covid-19, please make sure that the test you take is not the rapid test.

Happy Home requires you to take the COVID-19 (SARS-COV2) TEST.

If you or your child is positive:

  • Notify the school immediately

  • The lab must send results to our school or parents must scan the copy

  • Everyone in the home must be tested if the results are positive

  • Happy Home must receive two negative test results before returning back to school

Antigen tests are typically cheap, return results in minutes, and, like the genetic tests, reveal an active infection. They already exist for strep throat, influenza, tuberculosis, HIV, and other infectious diseases. But so far, only one antigen test for SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, has received emergency use authorization from the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

We offer children with orphan experience to learn the school curriculum with our teachers in small classes, where each student can move at his own pace and receive as much attention from the teacher as needed. In addition to an excellent educational base, the guys receive a flexible schedule, additional help in “lame” subjects and a rich extra-curricular life!

We make bright, high-quality portraits of children who are subject to family placement and place photographs and questionnaires with a description of the child’s character on the Children-Zhdut. rf Internet portal. Thanks to the activities of the project, parents are even for those children whose family arrangement is traditionally considered difficult due to their health, age or status.

In May 2018, with the support of LSR Group, the first Family Adaptation Center in Russia was opened. The purpose of the center is to provide comprehensive support to families who have adopted a child from an orphanage, as well as to prevent crisis situations in order to prevent abandonment of foster children. The center is designed to train 250 candidates for foster parents and support 400 foster families per year.

The portal is an educational platform that contains systematized and generalized information about the development and education of children who have experienced the loss of biological parents and who are brought up in foster families. Here we talk about effective ways of interacting with foster children at different stages of adaptation and age crises.

The regional database of children left without parental care in the Tver region has been updated: profiles of 14 new children have been added to the bank, profiles of 20 children have been replenished with relevant information. All these children need loving and caring parents!

We are a team of like-minded people united by the conviction that every child should live in a family, and he should feel good in this family. Any, even the best, fully equipped orphanage, with caring staff, can only be a temporary shelter while looking for parents, and the shorter the time spent in it, the easier it will be to adapt to a new family. Therefore, it is important for us to help blood parents who are in a difficult life situation to take care of their children, and if the child is already in an institution for any reason, to make his stay there as psychologically comfortable as possible and prevent the consequences of deprivation. In addition, we know what difficulties sometimes adoptive parents face, how difficult it is with psychologically traumatized children, and we are always ready to support them.

“He can’t go into the forest, you understand”: in the Kama region the bear has been living on the territory of the plant for 17 years – December 11, 2017

Tishka has been living at the plant for 17 years the territory of the machine-building plant.

It’s real winter in little Aleksandrovsk. The streets are marked. Snowdrifts. Quiet. The vast territory of the local machine-building plant is closed and impregnable. But every local, and many have worked or are working on this city-forming giant, knows Tishka.

The little bear cub was brought here 17 years ago. It was a gift…

“They brought a one-month-old bear cub from the Kemerovo region in a trailer to a car, fed him chocolates all the way,” wrote the local newspaper Boyevy Put.

In 2000, the plant widely celebrated its 200th anniversary. And now Tishka is his living reminder.

The Teddy bear was presented by the guests from Alexandrovskmashservice LLC. This company no longer exists. And then she was a representative of AMZ (Alexander Machine-Building Plant. – Note ed .) in Kuzbass. The partners presented the then nameless baby to Gevorg Mehrabyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AMZ.

The locals fell in love with the bear for its sociable disposition

Share

The locals saw us off to Tishka. The territory of the plant goes into the forest. A massive cage darkens among the trees. We peer. We come closer. Thick rods. Such and the bear will not bend. The cell itself is divided into two parts, and between them a small window. In one chamber there is a huge tire from a truck. And in the other – a tub for water and a large wooden box on the brickwork. Like a den. The cell is empty. Nobody came out to vote. But for a treat in the form of apples in a wooden lair, it rustled and creaked. Tishka left. Although the nickname clearly did not fit with a large, slightly clumsy beast. At least Tikhon. The real owner of the forest.

Tikhon inhaled noisily. Slowly, he walked towards us. With amazing dexterity, he slipped through the window into the second part of the enclosure, where the apples lay. He swallowed the first one with a crunch. Was satisfied. In the course went chicken wings from a local store. Tikhon carefully cleared the snow from the hotels.

The forest animal is not afraid of people. He leaned against the bars, watching us. And then I decided to stretch. He stretched out to his full height (what a huge brother you are!), Walked from corner to corner. Ridiculously, he sat down on the tire, and then slid to the floor, stretching out his black smooth paw pads. There was something innocent and childish about it.

Tishka does not look sick or emaciated. Long soft dense coat. The look is not haunted. He studied us. He looked attentively, protruding his pink lip every now and then, and sucked in the cold air.

We saw its soft round silhouette among twigs, pines and snow for a long time. From the village street occasionally came the barking of some watchdog. Silence was calm.

The cage for Tishka is divided into two equal parts

Share

And the street lives its own life. A white-red cat jumped off the woodcutter, asking for affection. A woman with a bucket walks towards.

“You can also visit our store, everyone knows about the bear there,” the local advises.

Shop for the village – the center of universal information. It’s crowded in the middle of the day. Persimmon cut on a saucer. The seller with girlfriends drinks tea. Among the assortment there is absolutely everything: from matches to a shovel.

A conversation is struck up with us, as if we have all known each other for a thousand years. You don’t even have to ask questions. The choir of women’s voices randomly broadcasts:

– Cosmonaut Leonov personally presented the bear for the anniversary of the plant! The plant walked for three days.

– Local youth is drinking a bear. They bring moonshine with them. Give him a bottle. He unscrews the cork and drinks. And then roars and threshes on the cage. It is soldered with water from a hose.

– We were rebuilding the house, found stocks of 2011 raspberry jam. Decided to give the mouse. I smeared it on the banana. I decided to give everything. It hurts that the bear liked my jam. There were a lot of cans. Ate everything.

– He still likes sweets. Smart bear! Fantik unfolds. You won’t eat with paper!

– In the summer, in the heat, they fill the bath for him to bathe.

It’s not even important that the stories are true. The locals love the clubfoot. Everyone here works or worked at the factory. Nina Mikova, who worked for 40 years at AMZ, remembers him as a bear cub.

– He did not live here at first. He was taken away to live in the territory of one company. Then they built a cell. The bear has grown up. I had to weld a cage to fit his size,” the woman recalls. – Where should I put him now? It cannot be released. It is forbidden.

The territory of the plant is huge

Share

We managed to find a man who for many years went to Tishka every day, fed and looked after. In fact, it was his official duties.

— We have a separate cynological service at the factory. The guys from there are still taking care of Tishka, – Anatoly tells 59.ru. I remember him as a kid. Feed went 2-3 times a day. Then Tishka was given a special diet. He is very fond of gingerbread, fruits, even lemon was sometimes given. Ate cottage cheese. I ate five loaves of bread a day, one liter of milk, I also added whey, a pound of meat, I cooked cereals, potatoes. In the summer it is optimal to feed twice a day. And in winter, once a day is enough. He became immobile. In order to hibernate for the winter, it was necessary to change the food, but Tishka never goes to bed in the winter.

Anatoly courted Tishka until 2007.

— Ten years ago I left Aleksandrovsk. Now I work on a shift,” the man said. – Sometimes I come to Tishka. I miss. He remembers me. I’ll hide behind a tree, and he can already smell my scent. Looking for me. Jumps. By God, like a child. For a long time, he reacted to aliens in camouflage uniforms. I often came to him in camouflage. Now sometimes I go to the guys at the checkpoint, I ask about Tisha. I even visited him on weekends. Worried.

Anatoly is sure that it is better for Tishka to stay at the plant.

— He is not allowed into the forest. If he wants to eat, he will immediately come out to people, ”the man says. – You yourself understand.

Tishka turned out to be of impressive size

Share

In winter, the bear does not sleep

Share

At the factory entrance we were sent to a very specific addressee – “you to the top.” The security service of the Alexander Machine-Building Plant reacted very emotionally:

— Our bear is better off here than at the zoo! Not all animals get such food even in the best zoos! The bear is listed on the balance sheet of the plant. He gets full care. After complaints from some crazy citizens, our bear has been “popping up” for a year and a half. Checks have already been carried out several times: only last year we were checked by the environmental prosecutor’s office, veterinary supervision! There are no violations. The bear has a vaccination passport, his diet is on schedule. And after checking, the representative of the veterinary supervision said: against the background of how your bear lives, our zoo should be closed. We signed an agreement with a veterinary clinic, the bear has a doctor, he receives vitamins, our specialists from the canine service, which works at the plant, take care of him. The cell meets the standards. It was made after consultation with representatives of the zoo.

The environmental prosecutor’s office knows about Tishka.

“The bear is kept in accordance with the norms, it is in excellent condition, its coat is shiny, it is easy to determine the health of any animal by its coat,” said Alexander Kotelnikov, assistant to the environmental prosecutor Bereznikov. “Last year, we submitted a submission on only two issues: observe safety precautions and put an additional net around the perimeter of the enclosure to protect access. Otherwise, the bear will hook anyone through the cage. And the second point is to provide the bear with additional veterinary care. Namely, to prevent diseases. The factory fixed the problem. The more interest in the bear, the more the owner, to be honest, the temptation to get rid of him. Then neither you nor I will know what this bear died from. What will test after test give? .. The owner normally takes care of him. In my practice there were very sad cases. In Usolye at 9In the 0s, a bear also lived on the territory of the plant. Complaints began. What did they lead to? The owner killed the bear. That’s all.

Cynologists and factory guards look after the bear

Share

According to the interlocutor, some animals are protected by international treaties.

“You can’t just make a lion a gift,” said the prosecutor. – And with the Red Book and rare animals in general, everything is very strict. They are all registered. Nobody touches them. In the situation with common wild animals, there are many gaps in the legislation. The law on hunting prescribes, for example, the conditions for keeping an animal in semi-free conditions for baiting stations. In addition, in our history and the statute of limitations has long passed. Yes, a bear cub was removed from its habitat 17 years ago. We have a statute of limitations for protecting or damaging the environment for a maximum of ten years.

Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of PSNIU Alexander Shepel largely agrees with the prosecutor.

“This is already an adult bear, which is used to living next to a person,” the professor told 59.ru. “And since people tamed him, then now they must bear responsibility for him. In captivity, with good care, bears live for a long time – up to 40-50 years. It is absolutely impossible to let him go into the forest, he will not survive. For zoos, it is also of little interest, because we live in a bear land. By and large, a wild bear cub should have been released into the forest as soon as it was presented. Then he still had the opportunity to adapt to life in the wild.

According to the professor, one of the reasons why the bear has not gone into hibernation now is the diet. In nature, the bear feeds very abundantly in autumn in order to accumulate energy reserves for the whole winter. If by late autumn you do not change the nature of the diet, do not significantly increase the caloric content of food, then the bear’s instinct will not work.

In the end, I would like to recall a completely different story. It is also about the Perm bear cub. His name was Masya. True, now this is an adult bear, which was released into the wild along with his bride Masha.

We remind you that a bear cub was found on the street in Perm. Permian Ibragim Khamkhoev told 59.ru that the bear lived in his apartment for a whole week. Later, the bear cub was brought to the animal hotel on Visim. There he fell in love with fatty goat’s milk. The age of the clubfoot was about three months.

Then the Permians launched a whole rescue operation. The bear cub was transported several thousand kilometers from Perm to the “School of Wildness” in the Tver region. This is the program of the biological station “Clean Forest”. Orphaned bears have been rescued by the Pazhetnov family for 20 years. Over the years, biologists have raised 120 orphaned cubs and released them into the wild.

The Pazhetnovs married a Perm bear and even found a bride.

“The character of the bear cub is “good” – a pronounced reaction of fear to a person,” said Sergey Pazhetnov, head of the Orphan Bear Rescue Center at the time. – Masya was released next to the oat fields. For the first time, as a gift to him, we left four bags of apples at the edge of the forest.

So in 2015, the Perm bear cub Masya was released in the Tver forests. Masya underwent rehabilitation at the cub rescue center

Sergei Pazhetnov, who works at the Bear Rescue Center, also spoke about Alexander’s Tishka:

— Alas, he will never be released. In Russia there are no shelters, as in Europe, where such wild animals are provided with a calm old age. Romania and India have wildlife parks. Doomed animals are redeemed from captivity, operated on, treated, nursed. They then live in these parks. A special program has been developed there to save such animals. I went to India to get acquainted with their experience. We don’t have legislation. And even if protective mechanisms start to work, I don’t know where the state will place all those bears that now live with private owners. In our country, they prefer to have them at a cafe or restaurant near the road. The usual story, unfortunately. All Russia in these bears.

We have our own channel in Telegram, where we publish the main news of Perm and the region. Want to be the first to read our content? Subscribe: telegram. me/news59ru.

90,000 A schizophrenic pretended to be handsome and a genius for 14 years in order to become the father of 36 children. Why did everyone believe him?

    Lenta. ru

    © Lenta.ru

A schizophrenic from the USA, who has suicidal and criminal tendencies, decided to earn extra money on sperm donation. In a sperm bank questionnaire, he presented himself as an athletic handsome man with a high IQ. His deception was revealed only after 14 years. During this time, he impregnated dozens of women and became the biological father of 36 children. About the consequences of his lie – in the material “Lenta.ru”.

    Video of the Day

In 2000, then 23-year-old Chris Agless dropped out of college and decided to earn extra money donating sperm. He worked as a waiter in the US state of Georgia, and in his spare time he tried to excel at drumming.

A young man went to the Xytex sperm bank and filled out a donor questionnaire. In his profile, Agless indicated that he has a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, a master’s degree in artificial intelligence, and is working on a doctoral dissertation in neuroengineering. He then took a six-page medical history survey, where he wrote that he was perfectly healthy, noting only that his father was color blind.

A conversation between the staff and Agless has been preserved in the clinic’s database. “I dare say, your IQ is much higher than average,” said the Xytex employee. “I am pleased to hear that. I know that I help people. I’m helping to have a baby, which is the best gift in the world. I am so grateful to be able to donate,” replied the 23-year-old.

Agless chose not to mention that in 1999 he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. He noticed the first signs of the disease in high school. Before going to sleep, he said, he heard voices repeating his name.

The American now insists that he did not have schizophrenia, but a temporary condition known as schizophreniform disorder. It has similar symptoms, but lasts no longer than six months. However, the court documents listed the diagnosis as schizophrenia, or schizoaffective psychosis.

Agless’s biomaterial was in high demand among clients due to its impressive profile. In his profile, it was said about the resemblance to the actor Tom Cruise. The young man turned out to be a fertile donor and donated sperm up to twice a week.

In 2005, Agless was convicted of burglary. He pleaded guilty and spent eight months in prison. He was also noted to have suicidal tendencies: in 2014, he entered the shooting range and asked for a gun to be rented to commit suicide.

In 2014, Xytex Corp employees accidentally disclosed Agless’s contact details and personal email while talking to several families who had used his donated sperm. Several curious clients wanted to get to know the biological father of their child better and began to search for information about him on the Internet.

When the clinic contacted Agless, he had a nervous breakdown. He repented of everything, went to the police station and admitted that he had deceived the employees of the sperm bank. Agless did not accuse the clinic of illegal disclosure of personal data.

Now Agless is 43 years old. Illegally, he became the biological father of 36 children. He hopes that the families and children involved in this story will be able to find the strength to forgive him. “I’m sorry I betrayed their trust; it was a vile act and I’m not proud of it. I really feel terrible,” he admits now.

He and his wife had no children of their own. “I have always wanted a child, but I doubt that I will ever be able to fulfill this dream,” complained Agless. He dreams that one day his biological children will understand that he did not mean to harm anyone, and they will want to see him. “Maybe I won’t meet all of them, but at least some of them,” he expressed hope.

Since 2016, affected couples in the US, UK and Canada have filed a dozen lawsuits against a sperm bank that failed to verify the donor’s background. The families accuse the clinic of falsely presenting not only Aglese, but another donor as well. In each individual court case, the decisions of the judges were different.

One of the victims, Wendy Norman of Peachtree City, used Agless’ biomaterial in 2002. She recalls how she was selecting a potential father for her unborn child and stumbled upon his profile. “His biography seemed very interesting to me. Such a variety of hobbies, ”she admitted.

In front of her was a profile of a man of athletic build, 193 centimeters tall. According to the description, he looked like Tom Cruise and had a fairly high IQ – 160. As a result, Norman settled on this donor, successfully became pregnant and gave birth to a son, whom she named Alex. She did not hide his biological father from the boy and showed him the donor profile on the clinic’s website.

Norman and her son couldn’t believe it when they found out who the donor really was. “It broke my heart,” Wendy admitted. “At first it shocks you, and then you just refuse to believe it,” added her adult son.

The family is worried that Alex may also be diagnosed with hereditary schizophrenia. According to his mother, he has been suffering from a mental disorder since elementary school. “He could grab me, scream or start throwing things. He left cracks in the walls, broke doors, broke mirrors and windows in the house, – recalls the mother. “Our life with him was like a roller coaster.”

Wendy Norman and her partner Janet are trying to sue a sperm bank. In November 2017, they filed a lawsuit in which they accused the Xytex clinic and two of its employees of fraud, negligence, false advertising through inadvertence, as well as selling substandard goods and violating warranties. Xytex refuses to admit guilt. Representatives of the sperm bank are convinced that clients do not have sufficient grounds to win in court.

The Normans’ claim reached the Georgia Supreme Court. According to the case file, Alex was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and a genetic blood disorder inherited from his father. In addition, in the past he was hospitalized due to suicidal tendencies, which were also seen in his biological father.

Norman accused the sperm bank of promoting a profile of a criminal with a mental disorder, passing him off as an educated, healthy and talented sperm donor. The judges were thrown into disarray when Xytex lawyer Ted Lavender said the parents could not claim damages despite false advertising and inconsistency in the biomaterial sold.

Lavender explained that the plaintiff not only wanted to recover the approximately $1,600 he paid for the sperm, but also sought damages for lifelong care of Alex. However, their claim was interpreted as if the birth itself had injured the boy.

Initially, Georgia state judges dismissed the lawsuit against the clinic, citing the 1990 precedent. The case concerned a lawsuit filed by parents against obstetricians. The plaintiff argued that doctors should have diagnosed the fetus with Down syndrome in advance, allowing the mother to terminate the pregnancy.

The trial court and the Court of Appeals intended to proceed with the case, but the Supreme Court concluded that the wrongful birth claim was not supported by Georgia law.

On September 28, 2020, the Georgia Court of Appeals partially appealed the Supreme Court’s decision. A Fulton County judge invalidated all but one of the Normans’ claims. The claim that the clinic provided false information about its products and services was accepted for further consideration.

Xytex representatives continue to insist that the lawsuit raises the issue of illegal birth prohibited under Georgia Supreme Court ruling 1990 years. Judge Peterson stressed that the court’s position remains unchanged on cases where the birth of a person can be considered as causing injury to him.

“The Court of Appeal should not have invoked this precedent in all of the claims in the lawsuit because some of the damages requests do not necessarily indicate that having a child was traumatic for him,” Peterson explained.

Court hearings on the Norman case are ongoing.

    PROVIDER

    Definition

The median monthly cost of child care services by age group and provider type. The median rate is the dollar amount at which half of the providers charge the same or higher and the other half charge the same or lower.

    Data Source

ChildCare Aware of Washington. Data were retrieved on February 6, 2021 and are available at https://childcareawarewa.org/advocacy/#data.

    Notes

Data last updated in February 2021 by Washington KIDS COUNT.

The cost calculations are based on provider reports and are not adjusted for inflation. According to ChildCare Aware of Washington, more than 90% of the providers in the counties reported their child care rates for infant, toddler and pre-school age groups. The provider reporting rate is lower for school-age group.

The age groups are defined as follow:
Infant:         (Less than 1 year old)
Toddler:      (1 to 2.5 year old)
    Pre-school:  (2.5 to 5 year old)
    School-age:  (6 years or older)

The school-age rates do not include kindergarten.

N.A. indicates that there are either no child care providers serving the particular age group in the county or  at least one provider served that age group in that county, but either (a) no rates were reported or (b) there were very few providers for the age group (three or fewer) and none of them gave permission to publish their rates.

Providers use different rate schedules (hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly) in specifying their rates. For those providers using a rate schedule other than monthly, the Network converts the rate to monthly terms.

While some providers give discounts when caring for two or more children from the same family, these are not included in the calculations.

For school-age, the rates shown are the before- and after-school rates. The rates for school-age children indicate rates during the school year. The rates for school-age children during the summer are approximately the same as for pre-school children.

We hired Launita as our full time nanny from Jan 2022-August 2022 to care for our two young boys (aged 15 months and 3.5yrs) during her semester off from college. We loved working with her and our boys adored her! She was punctual, hard-working, detail-oriented, responsive to feedback/direction,energetic and playful with the boys, creative (baking, planning outings, doing art projects with our boys), and was rarely on her phone. We appreciated that she sent us pictures & updates on our boys, and impressed by her fastidiousness in keeping our house clean–not only doing dishes, but also frequently vacuum or swiffering if the boys made a mess on the floor during a mealtime. She was very helpful and supportive of our family for trips, our house sale, during the delivery of our 3rd baby, and during our move. She is trustworthy, professional, communicative, and I would recommend her highly!. ..

Shonnan was incredible. I was so nervous about having someone watch my 2 year old, especially since her older sister wasn’t going to be home at the time, but Shonnan was so welcoming and sweet that my baby was immediately drawn to her. I was working from home in the other room and I could hear themtalking and having fun the entire time. My daughter was so sad when Shonnan had to leave and has been asking for her since. We will definitely be hiring her again soon. So thankful we found her….

    What travelers say

    “Lack of staff”

    900 June 02, 2017

Not enough staff to manage trips. The kids have to wait for the operator to finish the trip then come to steer them.

    “Great venue for kids 2-6.”

    May 2017

I got here as a child and then brought it to my children. Now I have taken our grandchildren with me. While the amenities were going through a tough period and the places were going a little bit, the area pulled together and did a great job restoring them and giving them a fresh look and feel. It’s not Disneyland, but it’s a great place to keep the kids busy.

Fresno Playland /Storyland are the best!

    Aug. 2019

A special day with my grandchildren was had by all!! We even received a certificate for the first 200 teacup riders. There are many rides that suit all ages. There is even a train that circles over to Storyland!

The boys loved it. Had a fun time exploring. There’s lots of diverse things to do. Make sure you couple this with a train ride and visit to playland.

Fun Time with your Kids or Grandkids.

    May 2018 • Traveling alone

I first went to Storyland shortly after it first opened. I was about 8 or 9 and today I am 65. Great place to take the kids for some fun. Park is very clean most of the time. You can go to the zoo across the street after you are home with Storyland.

A day with my 7 year old grandson.

    Sept. 2017 • With friends

We visited this zoo on a Sunday and when we were through we still had time to go to story land and play land. We decided to get on the train that takes you to play land first. He chose several rides which he enjoyed and then went back to story land on the train. Loved the new improved story land and spent another 45 minuets enjoying it. Very fun day!

Sad to see it going down hill, hate to write this review but hope it stays maintained

    Jan. 2018 • Family Vacation

We were at Storyland when it first opened after the renovations a few years back. Loved it. so fun. It still is a fun place but if you have been before, it will appear quite disappointing. It is very worn down and not maintained. I hope that whom ever maintains it starts asking for donation both monetary and help (for things like gardening maintenance). Half of the boxes where the kids place the story key were broken and did not work. A lot of the attractions had paint worn off, the water ways were either empty (I get it due to the drought) or just dirty/nasty and the water smelled. Leaves everywhere (ask some civic groups in town to help clean this up weekly). The castle had a padlock on the gate so you could not go up in it. Not sure why. The dirt with the scooper (so adorable) smelled of animal urine (which I get due to the lake and birds) and I could hardly stand to stand there and watch my kid.

I am so dissapointed. I loved it and would totally donate time and money to it. It had just gone down hill in my opinion. Of course, if you have never been you may not notice some of it and its worth checking out. It really is cute.

Oh and the train hast’ been working since the first of the year and its the 13th now, my 3 year old loved it over the summer so that is why we keep checking back each week we visit the Zoo.

This Small Theme Park is Great for Small Children 2017 • Family Vacation

Storyland is so cute. If you are expecting Disneyland, don’t go. It is small and you can do the entire park in about 4 hours if the lines are not long.

They have older kiddie rides and figures of dinosaurs that are just adorable.

The prices are reasonable and parking is easy. It has been refreshed, but still an older type park with typical fair type rides. But is is fun, your kids (3-8) will love it.

If you are in town go there. You will like it.

    • apache2.conf is the main configuration
file. It puts the pieces together by including all remaining configuration
files when starting up the web server.
    • ports.conf is always included from the
main configuration file. It is used to determine the listening ports for
incoming connections, and this file can be customized anytime.
    • Configuration files in the mods-enabled/,
      conf-enabled/ and sites-enabled/ directories contain
particular configuration snippets which manage modules, global configuration
fragments, or virtual host configurations, respectively.
    • They are activated by symlinking available
      configuration files from their respective
*-available/ counterparts. These should be managed
      by using our helpers

      a2enmod,
      a2dismod,

      a2ensite,
      a2dissite,

      and

      a2enconf,
      a2disconf
. See their respective man pages for detailed information.

    • The binary is called apache2. Due to the use of
environment variables, in the default configuration, apache2 needs to be
      started/stopped with /etc/init.d/apache2 or apache2ctl.
Calling /usr/bin/apache2 directly will not work with the
      default configuration.

By default, Debian does not allow access through the web browser to
any file apart of those located in /var/www,
    public_html
directories (when enabled) and /usr/share (for web
applications). If your site is using a web document root
located elsewhere (such as in /srv) you may need to whitelist your
document root directory in /etc/apache2/apache2. conf.

The default Debian document root is /var/www/html. You
can make your own virtual hosts under /var/www. This is different
to previous releases which provides better security out of the box.

Please use the reportbug tool to report bugs in the
Apache2 package with Debian. However, check existing bug reports before reporting a new bug.

Please report bugs specific to modules (such as PHP and others)
to respective packages, not to the web server itself.

    REVIEWS

Chose based on cost and distance from the city. We went to watch specially on Friday in the afternoon – we drove there and back (from Bolshevikov Ave.) absolutely without traffic jams, which was very pleasing, about an hour one way, slowly. The plots are all good, even, no need to uproot – buy and build, there is a forest nearby, the air is clean. 20-30 minutes to Peterhof, about the same to the bay. In general, we liked the location. There is a more or less decent asphalt road to the DNP, and there is a second entrance, but the road is not very good there yet. Work in the DNP is ongoing, we look at the photo reports in the group. Special thanks to you, Andrey, for your participation, help and generally good attitude.

    Marina (plot 112)

Since I was looking for an empty plot with at least minimal infrastructure, I bribed the size of the plot and the electricity supplied. During the inspection, I met the manager Andrey, who said that in August a hard surface of the roads would be carried out. This became another weighty argument in favor of the village. In addition, Andrey was of great help in choosing a site (thank you !!!!!), and also gave the contacts of an electrician. For any question regarding the site, and at any time, I can be sure: I will be helped. Thanks to the management of the village for their work!

    Irina (plot 165)

Initially, they planned to buy 10 acres, but in the village they were able to purchase a plot of 15 acres for a deferred amount! Peace and quiet, a road without traffic jams, close infrastructure, Rodon lakes, the Voronka river, forests, horse clubs, Nevsky flying club (in Gostilitsy), Gostilitsky lakes – these are the few things that we have met so far.

The purpose of the center is to provide comprehensive support to families who have adopted a child from an orphanage, as well as to prevent crisis situations in order to prevent abandonment of foster children.

Childtime of Gaithersburg to Offer Private Kindergarten for Local Families

Learning Care Group News: December 10th, 2010

GAITHERSBURG, Md., September 10, 2010 – Childtime Learning Center – a leader in early education and child care – is excited to announce that it will begin offering a Private Kindergarten class for local families. The school is located at 1199 Quince Orchard Blvd. in Gaithersburg.

The all-day kindergarten program will run from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and will begin on September 20th, 2010. The class will meet – if not exceed – all state requirements for kindergarten, with a strong focus on mathematics and literacy skills. The teacher has all of the necessary state credentials and has more than 20 years of experience.

This Private Kindergarten will benefit children who thrive in a smaller learning environment, as the class is only open to 15 students. Children will receive more individualized attention and teachers can focus on the unique needs of each student.

The school will also be hosting a Private Kindergarten Open House on September 15th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.. This event is open to local families who are interested in learning more about the program. Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions about the curriculum, state standards and participate in a hands-on activity with their child.

“We are truly excited to begin offering our Private Kindergarten program, which was designed to introduce children to a formal education, while still encouraging exploration and discovery in a small, safe environment,” said Jaime Bowen, center director. “Further, it is a great option for working parents because the children can come in early and stay later as part of our before and after-school program … so families get their school and child care needs in one place!”

Childtime of Gaithersburg is currently accepting enrollments for its Private Kindergarten, however, space is limited. For more information or to schedule a tour, please call 301-948-2556.

What is the story behind Judah Friedlander’s trucker hats?

Arts & Entertainment, Film & TV Industry, Film, TV & Video, TV Shows & Programs / 30 Rock, Comedy, Frank Rossitano, Judea Friedlander, Stand Up, Tina Fey, Trucker Hats / August 29, 2021 / From
    Donna Kiritaran

30 Rock, an early 2000s sitcom, spawned a bunch of interesting characters. The show was a satirical series created by the excellent Tina Fey. But we’re here to talk about the fun trucker hats designed by Judah Friedlander.

Judah Friedlander, who played Frank Rossitano in the comedy, made a statement about the trucker hats he wore on the show. He was able to create enough hats to wear a different one in every scene. That’s about three hats on the show!

    Who is Judas Friedlander?

Judah Friedlander was born March 16, 1969 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. As a child, he showed a strange interest in political cartoons. He often drew such characters and even made cartoons.

Friedländer tried comedy at the age of 19 while attending New York University. He continued to perform several nights a week, even while working on 30 Rock. He loved stand-up comedy so much that he considers it his first true love and prefers it to screen acting. (Source: New York Times)

Friedländer has lived in New York for most of his adult life. He currently lives in Queens. He is active in the industry, his latest job is in 2020 (Source: IMDB)

    Friedlander on 30 Rock

As most fans know, the sitcom is based on Tina Fey’s experience as a writer in the industry. Friedlander regularly starred in the sitcom Rock 30. He played Frank Rossitano, somewhat sarcastic, lazy and rather vulgar. According to Tina Fey, Friedlander’s character is actually inspired by two writers she worked with on Saturday Night Live.

Friedländer added personality to his character by having him wear different trucker hats with slogans. They ended up becoming a sitcom gag. You may not know that Friedländer makes these hats himself. He created enough to be able to wear a different hat for every scene his character was in. It was estimated that there were three hats on the show. (Source: Trib Live)

Things you didn’t know about Judas Friedländer

There is definitely more to Friedländer than meets the eye. Here is a list of things you should know about the comedic genius.

    He finds stand-up comedy relaxing.

Whenever Friedlander feels stressed or wants to relax, he goes out and stands up. He even recorded several concerts overnight.

He only met Tina Fey when he auditioned for 30 Rock

Most people think the couple were friends long before the show started. Although the comedian has always been a fan of Fey, he never met her before the show.

He likes to play ping-pong and football

Friedländer loves ping-pong and football, so he often promotes these sports. Especially ping-pong, because in the USA it is not appreciated.

Contrary to what most people think, he doesn’t live in the trendy neighborhood.

Angela has been my child care provider since my daughter was 3 months old. She is very warm and welcoming and you can rest assured that your child is in good hands with her. Angela also sends text updates throughout the day with photos of my daughter which I love receiving. She is a wonderful andloving daycare provider and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for child care….

    Judy’s Family Childcare

Judy has taken care of my daughter for three years, and I couldn’t recommend her more highly. She’s not just a daycare provider, she’s “Mama Judy. ” With Judy, I know that my child is not just sitting on a couch, watching television. I know that she’s at the park, or the zoo, or a museum, or in thebackyard doing science experiments. I know that she’s with someone who genuinely loves taking care of her, who isn’t just punching the clock or staring at her phone all day. Judy comes out the door to hug our kids every morning, can’t wait for them to wake up from naps so she can play with them again, and works incredibly hard to teach them not just letters and numbers but kindness and gentleness and self-respect. If you are looking for strict order and rigid schedules and everything neat-as-a-pin, Judy isn’t a good match for you. But if you want your kid to come home dirty and happy and really loved at the end of the day, you’ve found the right place….

We love Ms. Ana (or Mama as the boys call her)! Our son has been in her care since he was 4 months old and is only leaving now at 2 1/2 because we are moving. She cares for the kids like her own; they havestructured time, but also lots of time to play. They get breakfast and lunch, take naps, read books, learn their letters, numbers, colors, and more. We didn’t send our son here so he would learn all this, but he surprises us everyday with something new he learned at Ms. Ana’s. We will miss her and Papa a lot!…

Ms. Judy is a true treasure. She combines many years of experience with genuine love and care for the children under her care. Her daycare focuses on teaching kids kindness, respect, sharing, all while lettingkids be kids and have lots of fun! Whether it’s going on field trips to the park or zoo or museum, playing in Ms. Judy’s garden full of slides, Lego tables, ride-on toys, chalk boards, and lot of other opportunities for fun activities, or staying inside on a rainy day reading books and playing with trains, Ms. Judy always finds a way to make the day a success. My kid loves her tasty, healthy home-cooked lunches, and is proud of the pictures and various creative crafts he makes with Ms. Judy’s encouragement and help. As he’s gotten older, she’s added activities that teach letters and math, always keeping it low-pressure and fun. And all that for a rate that is beyond competitive. Like all the other moms here, I love Fran and strongly encourage you to consider her for your infant’s care. I have known Fran for nearly 10 years!! Before I had children I knew she ran a daycare, and I wasalways impressed by her kind and caring demeanor. Fran has provided childcare for our first child, then our second child for total ~4 years. She is punctual, reliable, and committed to her work. Fran loves all the children that come to her home, and it is reflected in my children’s love of her. Facing COVID, Fran is calm and supportive, and works with families to protect the health of everyone. I have had live in nanny and regular nanny, and none has been as dependable as Fran, who is respectful of parents’ time and work. We are sad to move on to Preschool, but I know my son has been well socialized, and has met all his developmental markers, and is ready for Preschool. Hello Families,
Thank you for your interest. I am Joyce, a licensed childcare provider. I have been helping San Diego families for nearly 10 years. I am also a mother of two boys who are growing up way toosoon.
I have a small home daycare and I tend to keep just five kids, ages 3 months to 4 years old. While health and safety are my top priority, I provide a comfortable environment where children can play and learn from each other under my guidance and to ensure they reach their developmental stages. Routine is key in my daycare; I feel this is the best way for children to grow into their independence. If you would like your child to feel like they are with family, then this is the place for you.
I have been fortunate to have infants in my home, then have a sibling join us a year or two later. We have had the privileged to be part of several families and watching the babies grow, then go on to kindergarten. Childcare should allow parents to be worry free and a place where their child feels secure. I can proudly say I have offered dependable and trust worthy childcare. As parents I know our lives stay busy; as a convenience I am make time available for phone interviews before meeting you in person. 21 Century Approach to Early Education and Child Care
At Take Pride Learning, our mission is to inspire and teach a new generation in a way that accelerates learning and to engage children at a deeper level oflearning. We believe that when young children learn the basics right from the start, they are more confident, social, and do better in school.
Our modern approach embodies the notion that when you teach a child a fact – he may remember it, and when you show a child an example – she can describe it, but when you tell young children a captivating story, set to music, the story and songs become a part of who they are, shape who they become, and stay with them for life.
I am a teacher turned entrepreneur and my dream is to change the world through education, imagination and technology. To do this we had to start at the beginning with early education. We created the award-winning iKnow Series: 5 interactive enhanced eBooks and supporting products to improve how children learn the basics.
We are looking for caregivers with early education/early childhood development to implement our 2-phase launch plan: 1) Online home membership and 2) The 30-Day adventure camp.
Our business is rolling out a 2-phase launch:
Phase 1: Sell membership and products
We are targeting your area of the country for very specific reasons based on research. Caregivers have the opportunity to sell iKnow Memberships and then you are their online Ambassador (care-giver) to make sure they have an amazing experience. This can be a 12-month a year position. Great way to make extra money!
Phase 2: The 30-Day Adventure Camp
The caregivers that demonstrate high volume sales, leadership, and the need for a center in their area will secure an integral job in The 30-Day Adventure Camp (physical location in caregivers city). Here we will run camps where 3 to 5 year olds come and participate in an early learning experience where they learn literacy, language, science, global citizenship and that there is great value in always doing their best….

Political asylum in the USA for LGBT or gay people from Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is a post-Soviet country where the dominant religion is Islam. This alone supports certain traditions throughout the country. It goes without saying that any person remotely resembling a gay or LGBT person would be judged and criticized in such a society. Given the attitude of the inhabitants towards any non-traditional sexuality or orientation, one would expect some kind of rejection, an expression of anger towards “modern” trends.

For many years, gays, homosexuals had to hide their true identity behind unhappy marriages with the opposite sex (as prescribed by the traditional rules of society) or lead an agonizing lonely life with their heads down. However, as advanced civilizations adopt new laws to protect members of the LGBT community, access to more of this information is also being made available to closed communities via the internet.

There are also numerous riots in Kyrgyzstan demanding that the government pass similar bills to allow gay and LGBT communities to gain the freedom, or at least a degree of recognition, to be able to live a more or less normal life in their homeland. However, people don’t always get what they want.

Kyrgyzstan established its “democracy” about 20 years ago, but it has not fulfilled its obligations to support international human rights in terms of recognizing ethnic differences, exercising freedom of speech, equal rights and opportunities. In “democratic” Kyrgyzstan, one can easily observe a return to a deeply traditional society with inflexible gender stereotypes and norms of social behavior that are characteristic of the Central Asian region as a whole.

Kyrgyzstan refuses to hear, see, talk about the sexual orientation and gender identity of its citizens. Watching, behaving and living differently is severely punished both in the capital Bishkek and in any rural area of the country. Many cases have been documented of severe violence being practiced and encouraged against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, including rape, beatings, and psychological abuse.

Forced marriages and bride kidnappings have become the “norm” in Kyrgyzstan. According to OSCE statistics, one in four gay and bisexual men and women interviewed was the victim of “curative” or “corrective” rape, a brutal and heinous crime that perpetrators believe will change the sexual orientation of their victim. Victims mention shameful rejection, irreversible alienation and physical abuse from their families in response to their sexual orientation, gender identity.

Many gay, homosexual, LGBT people have actively attempted to portray “changing” their sexual orientation or gender identity in response to social pressure. More than half of gay, gay, LGBT partners were abused by their parents, who were responsible for sending their children to psychiatric hospitals for “treatment”, organizing meetings with men, marrying off their daughters, or using violence/house arrest to make them forget about “unacceptable modernization” and turn into “normal” people.

In addition to the social problems faced by gay, LGBT men and women in post-Soviet “democratic” Kyrgyzstan, they faced an even harsher sentence as sexuality-related hate crimes were promoted for decades in schools, universities, television and radio. Hate crimes against gays, LGBT people are not registered by the police because of the negativity and propaganda committed and disseminated by law enforcement agencies against gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, intersex people. In fact, according to OSCE reports, there have been cases where two gay men were arrested by the police and illegally detained and forced to have sex with each other while many officers gathered to watch. They then videotaped the entire act and traded it for their freedom. In another case, a lesbian turned to the police of Kyrgyzstan for protection from hate crimes, was detained and raped with a bottle in order to “bring her to her senses”, to turn her into a heterosexual.

Currently, there are no laws in the legal framework of Kyrgyzstan that would guarantee responsibility for expressing hatred against homosexual LGBT communities. The Criminal Code provides only liability for inciting hatred on national, racial, religious or inter-regional grounds. In addition, the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan does not contain a hate motive in relation to crimes committed against homosexual LGBT citizens. Only ethnic or religious hatred is considered an aggravating circumstance under one article of the Criminal Code.

According to the needs assessment of the LGBT community conducted by the LGBT organization “Labrys” in 2012-2013. in Kyrgyzstan, many members of the LGBT community have experienced homophobia and transphobia from medical professionals. After patients disclosed their sexual orientation and/or gender identity to experts, they were denied services. This is either due to a lack of information about the specific needs of gay, LGBT members, or they are simply openly expressing their homophobic and transphobic position. Gays, homosexuals often face privacy violations in medical institutions, forcing them to refuse to take care of their health.

The attitude towards LGBT people in Kyrgyzstan has deteriorated in recent years, primarily on the part of the authorities. These figures are supported by statistics: a record number of Kyrgyz citizens have fled the country, many of whom have sought and received asylum in the United States. A significant proportion of them are those who are persecuted for their political views or sexual orientation.

USA is a country that welcomes all people regardless of their sexual orientation and origin. That is why many gays, homosexuals who fled their country, leaving their lives behind, find peace in the great country of the USA.

    After Castro – Kommersant

The Castro era is going down in history: for the first time since 1959, a politician with a different surname will occupy the highest post in Cuba. On April 19, the National Assembly of People’s Power will meet in Havana to elect a State Council, which will no longer include its current chairman, Raul Castro. It is expected that this position will be taken by his first deputy, Miguel Diaz-Canel.

The world-famous Cuba Libre cocktail, which is offered to visitors in any Cuban bar, is very easy to prepare: light rum and Coca-Cola in a ratio of one to two with lime juice and ice . The Cuban authorities prepared the same simple recipe for their fellow citizens for the session of the national parliament. “It seems that the issue of transferring powers to Diaz-Canel has been resolved,” said Christopher Sabatini, an expert from Columbia University in New York, who founded Global Americans, a study of Latin American states.

More than that. Raul Castro intends to soon move from Havana to the east of the island to Santiago de Cuba, the administrative center of the province of the same name, from which he was elected to the National Assembly. In this city, in the cemetery of Santa Ifigenia, there is the grave of his older brother, the leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro, who died on November 25, 2016 at the age of 90. The urn with the ashes of the Comandante is walled up in a giant granite stone, on which is fixed a marble tablet with the single word “Fidel”.

At the same time, 86-year-old Raul Castro has not left big politics yet. Back in December, he announced that he would leave the post of Chairman of the State Council and the Council of Ministers, which he has held since 2008, but will remain at the head of the Communist Party – the only legal political organization in Cuba – at least until its next congress in 2021. According to some reports, he also intends to maintain control over the armed forces, including through the Politburo of the party’s Central Committee, a third of which is military.

“Raúl Castro will continue to wield enormous influence in making major political decisions,” said William Leogrande, a professor at the American University in Washington. The question of how independent his successor will be is still open. But first, let’s take a closer look: who is he?

Did not participate in the revolution

Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez was born on April 20, 1960 in the city of Placetas (province of Villa Clara) in the family of a mechanical factory worker. At 19He graduated from the Central University of Las Villas in Santa Clara in 1982 with a degree in electronics engineering and immediately joined the armed forces, where he served for three years. After returning from the army, he taught for a couple of years at the alma mater, then went to work in the Union of Young Communists of Cuba.

In 1987, Diaz-Canel went to Nicaragua, where the civil war was in full swing. The Sandinista government of Daniel Ortega, with the support of the USSR and Cuba, fought against the Contras – they received weapons from the United States and attacked the north and south of the country from the territories of Honduras and Costa Rica. Active assistance to the Nicaraguan army was provided by Cuban military advisers, but Diaz-Canel, representing the Komsomol members of the province of Villa Clara, was rather engaged in ideological work with youth. Be that as it may, he soon returned home, and the government of Nicaragua, faced with the prospect of reducing assistance from the USSR, was forced to conclude a peace agreement with the opposition.

Otherwise, Diaz-Canel’s biography is not much different from the biographies of most Komsomol and party functionaries, whether in Cuba or in the former USSR. In 1994, he headed the party organization in his native Villa Clara, eight years later he was transferred to the same position in the province of Holguin and soon joined the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. In 2009, Diaz-Canel became Minister of Higher Education, in 2012 – Deputy Prime Minister, a year later – Raul Castro’s first deputy in the State Council and the Council of Ministers of the Republic. For the first time in the history of socialist Cuba, such a high post was occupied by a person who did not participate in the revolution 1959 years old.

Diaz-Canel has long been a public figure in Cuba, but his popularity is nothing compared to Castro’s. Which is understandable: he did not gain experience in political struggle in a partisan detachment in the Sierra Maestra mountains; he is considered a skilled leader, but not a charismatic leader. And so far, little is known abroad – he has been mainly in those countries that have traditionally maintained close ties with the Island of Freedom, including China and North Korea. In 2016, he came to Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and visited the Skolkovo center.

Not much is known about his personal life. Cuba is a closed society, information about the top political leadership leaks rarely and in small doses. “Cuban politics is one of the most impenetrable in the world,” said Michael Shifter, head of Washington-based research organization Interamerican Dialogue. It is known about Diaz-Canel that he is married with a second marriage and that he has two children from his first wife. They say that in his youth he wore long hair and listened to The Beatles (and who didn’t listen to them?), But there were no doubts about his loyalty to the ideas of socialism.

The era of the Comandante is passing away. What will Cuba be like after her?

By the way, last year he disappointed those who had already begun to pin any hopes of liberalization on him: he issued a tough statement against the United States. Recent events in the region prove the truth of Che Guevara’s words that “you should never trust imperialism – not for a little, not for anything,” Diaz-Canel said at the time, referring to US pressure on Venezuela and President Donald Trump’s decision to reverse the normalization of relations with the neighboring island, begun by Barack Obama. “Cuba will not give up its sovereignty and independence, will not discuss its principles in negotiations and will not allow it to dictate conditions,” he stressed in response to US threats to maintain sanctions against his country until democracy is established in it.

And at the ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the death of Che Guevara in Santa Clara, Diaz-Canel demonstrated political correctness – he said what his party comrades wanted to hear from him. He will probably have to be extremely careful until he gains more independence. “He owes a lot to the people who chose him, including Raul Castro and his son,” explains Christopher Sabatini of Columbia University.

Raul Castro’s son he mentioned is 52-year-old Interior Ministry Colonel Alejandro Castro Espin, head of the powerful Council of National Defense and Security, which controls the Cuban secret services. The figure is not public, but well known in his country, and more recently abroad. In 2014, he led the Cuban delegation to secret talks with the United States, mediated by the Catholic Church in Canada and the Vatican, and in 2015, he attended his father’s meeting with Barack Obama during the Summit of the Americas in Panama. Experts note his contribution to the restoration of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, but they call him “the custodian of Castro’s legacy.” This implies that he will continue to play an important role in the life of the island, remaining behind the scenes of big politics.

Of the numerous Castro clan (Fidel and Raul had five more brothers and sisters, their children and grandchildren live not only in Cuba, but also in the USA, Mexico, Spain), 55-year-old Mariela remained in Cuban politics. The daughter of Raul Castro works as the director of the National Center for Sex Education and is known not only in her homeland, but also in other countries for her speeches in defense of the rights of sexual minorities. She is married, she has three children, and liberal views do not prevent her from being faithful to the ideas of the revolution: “Socialism – yes! Homophobia – no!” Recently, Mariela, who is a member of the National Assembly, spoke out in the sense that her father’s successor as head of state could surprise everyone. In her opinion, in such cases “never without surprises.”

    Handover?

So far, no one expects Diaz-Canel to become the Cuban Gorbachev. But after all, even when Gorbachev came to power, the Soviet Union did not know such words as “perestroika” and “glasnost” either.

Diaz-Canel himself says that “the changes that Cuba needs will be brought about exclusively by the Cuban people.” In this formula, if desired, it is not difficult to hear not only a response to calls for democratic changes that are heard from abroad, but, in fact, recognition of the need for such changes. Clearly, the expectation of change is in the air. But for the implementation of the social order, specific performers are required.

So it will be interesting to see who will be on Diaz-Canel’s team and how strong the resistance of the old guard will be. In 2013, when the National Assembly re-elected Raul Castro for a second five-year term as chairman of the State Council, he declared the need to “pass the torch of the revolution to new generations. ” Whether there will now be a rejuvenation of the highest echelons of power in Cuba, the upcoming session of Parliament will show. Observers noted that at the end of February, the honorary titles of Hero of Labor were awarded to veterans of the revolution, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, Ramiro Valdez Menendez and Guillermo Garcia Frias. Each of them is well over 80, all three are members of the State Council, but it is not known whether they will remain in its new composition. It is possible that the solemn ceremony in their honor is a prelude to seeing off for a well-deserved rest.

If an aging cohort of revolutionaries does retain real power, it will “strangle and delegitimize the rising generation of new leaders,” warns UC San Diego professor Richard Feinberg. His colleagues from other research centers also fear that Diaz-Canel may repeat the fate of Osvaldo Dorticos – in 1959-1976 he was the president of Cuba, but Fidel Castro, who held the post of prime minister, ruled everything.

Former Cuban Ambassador to the European Union Carlos Alsugaray sees the situation differently. In his opinion, Raul Castro “will retain some control, remaining in the background,” but will tell Diaz-Canel: “Now you have to do all this. You and make decisions.”

“It’s an extremely difficult moment for Cuba,” admits former University of Havana professor Enrique López Oliva. “People are disoriented. They don’t know what they should do. They don’t know what the transition will bring them and what their relationship with the United States will be like.”

    Waiting for change

Cubans froze as if in a theater: the expectation of change is in the air

    Photo: Reuters

Meanwhile, there are ongoing discussions on the island about possible changes. “I think the country is ready for change,” says Laura de Leon, a first-year student at the University of Havana. Correspondents for The Miami Herald, an American newspaper based in Florida’s second-largest city and home to most Cuban expatriates, spoke to her, as they did to many other Cubans, during a recent trip to Havana.

Among the interlocutors was Lionel Lima, a 44-year-old watchmaker who rents a small workshop in the Guanabacoa metropolitan area for 360 Cuban pesos a month. He is considered a cuentapropista – a self-employed citizen – and admits that he now earns twice as much as he used to at the factory (according to Reuters, in Cuba, the average salary in the public sector is $ 30). “There is enough to live on, although the rent is too high,” Lima says. According to him, he is not afraid of leaving Castro, but would like to believe that “if changes occur, they will be for the better.”

“I hope there will be a change,” says Gabriel de la Concepción, a 26-year-old truck driver who works in the port of Havana in the Regla district. For him, too, the main thing is to have enough money to live, otherwise the prices have risen too much: tomatoes and peppers – at 10 pesos a pound. “There used to be five,” Gabriel sighs.

Luis Puerta Batista, a 46-year-old artist from Callejón de los Peluqueros in the old part of town, lined with craft shops, hairdressers and restaurants, is also “burning with the desire to see change. ” He says: “Political, structural, economic changes are needed. The new Cuban leaders must try, because people rely on them.”

“If they don’t succeed, the system they’re trying to maintain could collapse,” continues Roberto Veiga, a Havana-based lawyer and political scientist who works with his friend Leinier Gonzalez on the independent internet project Cuba Posible. The authors call it a “laboratory of ideas” and want to show what could be done in Cuba, including with the help of civil society. Veiga believes that the discussions that have unfolded in recent years about constitutional reform, the development of private entrepreneurship, and the activities of the media have remained unfinished. In his opinion, “the new leaders will have to offer society something different and take additional steps towards freedom.”

    NEP is gaining popularity

For more than half a century, the Castro regime has learned to defend itself quite reliably against pressure from within, and adapted itself to external pressure. But the situation is changing. The Cuban Communist Party still holds power, but the longer it delays reforms, the more difficult it will be for it to maintain its credibility in society. Moreover, some results of government will have to be presented to citizens – just as in China the Communist Party demonstrates outstanding achievements in the economy to compatriots.

Among the most important economic tasks that the new government will have to deal with, some are obvious. This is the unification of the currency (since 1994, settlements on the island have been made in national and convertible pesos), attracting foreign investment, modernizing energy and transport infrastructure, abandoning the card system, and developing private business. Just one number: in the free economic zone in the port of Mariel (50 km west of Havana), only 26 projects have been approved since 2014, totaling about $ 1 billion, which is clearly not enough.

Raúl Castro had the courage to abandon a number of ideological taboos set by his older brother, who listed not only multinational corporations but the entire process of globalization as Cuba’s sworn enemies. As a result of targeted liberal reforms, the number of individual entrepreneurs in Cuba reached 580,000 people, but at the end of last summer, the authorities introduced new restrictions for them and suspended the issuance of licenses. Observers attribute the decision to slow down the Cuban NEP to the emergence of social inequality.

According to experts, for the third year in a row, Cuba has been going through the deepest economic crisis since the 1990s, when it stopped receiving aid from the USSR.

In 2016, GDP fell by 0.9 percent, and the Cuban government surprised experts by announcing that last year the economy grew by 1.6 percent. According to the estimates of the international rating agency Moody’s and the analytical unit of the British magazine The Economist, the economic recession continued in Cuba in 2017, and according to the calculations of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the growth of the Cuban economy amounted to an anemic 0. 5 percent.

This happened largely due to the reduction of concessional oil supplies from Venezuela, which itself is going through hard times. Plus more than $2 billion in damage from Hurricane Irma, which hit the island last year.

But the bright spot in the economy is the tourism boom. In 2017, 4.7 million foreign tourists visited Cuba, including 1.1 million Americans, almost three times more than in 2016. It is expected that in 2018 there will be up to 5 million foreign tourists: the largest American airlines plan to increase the number of flights to the Caribbean island.

The tourism industry receives major foreign investment, including from Spain, France, Canada, China, Germany. These countries are among the main trading partners of Cuba, but Russia was not among them until recently. The situation changed only last year, when major contracts with Cuban partners were signed by Rosneft and Russian Railways.

    Trump’s U-turn

At the same time, Cubans’ hopes for a gradual lifting of the US trade embargo are not coming true. The Trump administration has tightened travel rules for Americans to the island and has banned doing business with commercial companies that have ties to the Cuban military.

This is serious: the Revolutionary Armed Forces (RVF) is the main economic entity in Cuba. If the monopoly on political power is in the hands of the Communist Party, then the monopoly on economic activity is in the hands of the military. The RVS Ministry, through its conglomerate Grupo de Administracion Empresarial S.A. (GAESA) owns hundreds of businesses in industries ranging from finance and banking to tourism and film production. It is headed by Raul Castro’s son-in-law, General Luis Alberto Rodriguez Lopez Calleja. According to US data, GAESA controls up to 60 percent of the Cuban economy and about the same amount of currency entering the country. Trump’s sanctions are directed against this conglomerate.

In addition, last summer the US accused the Cuban authorities of some kind of “acoustic attacks” on American diplomats working on the island, recalled them home and demanded a reduction in the number of personnel at the Cuban embassy in Washington. “I think we’re back in the Cold War era,” lamented Andy Gomez, former director of the Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies at the University of Miami.

This turn of events strengthens the positions of the hardliners in the Cuban government as well. “The new sanctions imposed by Donald Trump are playing into the hands of conservatives in the Cuban leadership who are questioning the wisdom of improving relations with Washington,” Professor Leogrande notes. “I just hear them say:“ We warned you.

American businessmen who want to earn extra money on the development of ties with the neighboring island are afraid that under these conditions, companies from other countries will gain competitive advantages. “Since Trump announced the new policy, Russia and China have begun to make trade deals with Cuba and consolidate their influence there,” worries Matthew McLaughlin of Cuba Educational Travel, which organizes trips for US citizens to Havana.

It is possible that this will also help Cubans make their own choice.
