Luiza F.

Luiza was truly a gift to our family. She worked full time during the week while I was at work. She is so loving and caring, dependable, and committed. Luiza went out of her way to ask how she could help, researched development activities for my baby, merged her care style into mine to provideconsistency for my kids, and was a very clear communicator. She was flexible and supported some crazy schedules, family visits, weekend conflicts, and work travel. She also arranged her schedule to accommodate weekly additional time after I was done working so that I could run errands or attend appointments. Luiza became part of our family and I would hire her over and over and am devastated that she is moving. Luiza is incredibly dependable, respectful, trustworthy, and wonderful with children. I highly recommend her….

Katie F.

Katie was great with our little two year old son. He immediately wanted to show her all his toys and she went right along with him. Katie struck us as reliable, thoughtful, and interested in our son.

Shakila E.

Shakila did a great job taking care of my 12 and 8 year old boys. She was very punctual, kind, responsible and communicative. I recommend her!

Hello, I am looking for a part time nanny position. I am 26 years old, Brazilian, college student, army spouse, former au pair, responsible and high energy. I speak Portuguese, English, and some French. I havebeen a childcare provider for 6 years (kids 0-10yo). I used to be in a dance company and attend to law school but now I want to be a comedian! I can’t promise you that I am funny but I am a safe driver – I have my own car, reliable references, and I am an excellent swimmer, fully COVID vaccinated, and CPR/First Aid Certified. The light cleaning that I do is related to my time with the kids. I am available to babysit! My preference is to work 25 hours-week. My hourly rate is between 22$/h and 27$/h depending on kids, schedule and responsibilities. I have a Cookie Monster shirt if that changes anything lol. If you think we can be a good match, let’s chat! Thank you!…

Often there aren’t enough hours in the day and that’s where our part-time nannies come in. You need a reliable, honest, and hardworking nanny in the area of 10,000 Lakes.

Our college-educated nannies are here to make your life easier.

We define part-time as a nanny who works 25 hours and below.

Sometimes part-time nannies are referred to as babysitters. The Office of the Revisor of Statutes defines babysitters as follows:

“Babysitters are individuals who provide child-care services to parents and are not licensed to operate day care centers under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 245. “

Currently, Minnesota does not have a definition for a nanny that is as specialized as its definition of a babysitter. Their distinction lies in whether the household employee is categorized as a household employee who receives a W-4 or as an Independent Contractor (more below).

Regardless, each eligible household employee undergoes a background check, ensuring that your children are safe.

 – Our placement agency offers part-time permanent and part-time temporary nannies. –

Hiring a full-time or part-time nanny can reshape your life! Are you looking for greater flexibility? A live-in nanny may be the right option for you. In addition, we also specialize in special needs nannies, corporate nannies, and infant specialists. We even have summer nannies!

What is the Difference between a Nanny and a Babysitter?

There are significant differences between a nanny and a babysitter. Anyone can hire a teenage babysitter and pay them minimum wage. What kind of childcare will you receive? Minimal, at best.

A sitter is someone who simply watches your children and makes sure no harm comes to them (we hope).

Amateur childcare providers generally aren’t knowledgeable about age-appropriate activities, or proper sleep training techniques. “Sitters” are minimally aware of the hazards that kids can get themselves into.

The International Nanny Association is the most highly respected educational source for nannies.

They define a babysitter as someone who ‘provides supervisory, custodial care of children on a full-time or part-time basis. Many babysitters have no special training and have limited childcare experience.”

Nannies, on the other hand, are well-rounded individuals. Childcare is their passion and they have often devoted themselves to advancing their childcare knowledge. Career nannies have significant knowledge about respected child-rearing practices.

When is a Part-Time Babysitter Considered an Employee Versus an Independent Contractor?

In order for a part-time nanny to be considered an independent contractor, several characteristics must be met.

“A babysitter is an independent contractor if all of the following criteria are substantially met.

A. The babysitter takes care of another’s child in the babysitter’s own home or other premises under the babysitter’s control.

B. The instructions given to the babysitter by the parents are general in nature, relating to matters of diet, health, rest, special foods to be given to the child, and whom to contact in an emergency.

C. The babysitter is allowed to exercise judgment on matters as to the amount of time and attention the child requires, the types of meals to serve, and the manner of coping with situations that may arise.

D. The babysitter is free to perform household chores when the child does not require personal attention.

Subp. 3. Employee. A babysitter is an employee if all of the following criteria are substantially met.

A. The babysitter performs child-care services in the home of the child’s parents.

B. The babysitter has been engaged to devote services exclusively to the performance of the employer’s work.

C. The babysitter is given instructions regarding such matters as the amount of time and attention the child requires, the types of meals to serve, and the manner of coping with situations that may arise.

How Much Does Can a Part-Time Nanny Make as an Independent Contractor?

Under Section 176.041 of Excluded Employments; Application, Exceptions, Election of Coverage, a household employee is to be taxed as an independent contractor so long as said individual earns less than $1,000.00 in a three (3) month period. This is one of many reasons why our part-time nannies earn at least $15.00 an hour and work fewer than 25 hours a week (as opposed to 20 hours a week). Establishing these boundaries allows us to prevent taxation confusion that could cost you in the long run. In their exact words:

“a person employed as a household worker in, for, or about a private home or household who earns less than $1,000 in cash in a three-month period from a single private home or household provided that a household worker who has earned $1,000 or more from the household worker’s present employer in a three-month period within the previous year is covered by this chapter regardless of whether or not the household worker has earned $1,000 in the present quarter;”

https://www. revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/176.041

At The Elite Nanny Team, in most situations, our part-time nannies will receive a W-4 from your accountant or payroll service.

Seeking to form early connections that will last a lifetime, this organization provides comprehensive guidance to new parents.

    Kids Health

With resources aimed at parents and children, this unique site offers material to gain deeper understanding into growing young bodies and minds.

    American Academy of Pediatrics

This organization is dedicated to the wellness, health, and safety of children, providing invaluable insights for raising well-rounded kids.

    Specialists in Education

    Qualified. Trained. Committed.

Our early education experts build relationships with parents and children to support development and learning. Each center has an Educational Specialist to oversee ongoing teacher training. Many staff members have been with us for 10, 20, and 30 years, offering stability, experience, and dedication.

    Teachers are also certified in:

  • First aid
  • CPR
  • Emergency procedures
  • All staff are required to obtain an approved TB test and a background check through the local law enforcement agency, including an FBI fingerprint check, which is kept current.

    Proud to be Accredited

The majority of our schools are proudly accredited by NECPA (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation), having met more than 250 high-quality indicators in the areas of curriculum, student progress, health and safety, administration, teacher/child ratio, and parent and community involvement.

    Lunch From the Heart

Lunchtime can be a learning moment for children. We use it to teach and practice proper nutrition, table manners, and social skills. And it’s why we developed our Lunch from the Heart Mealtime program, so children can grow and develop as they enjoy meals, prepared by you, to suit their taste and needs. When you pack a nutritious lunch, it makes children eager to eat. We’ve grown very accustomed to hearing an excited child say, “Look what Mommy gave me to eat!” or “Daddy put an apple in my lunch!”

Pack a meal from the heart—and make lunch a love letter to your child.

    Choosing a Daycare | Children’s Hospital Colorado

If you’re like a lot of new parents, the demands of making a living mean your newborn will need child care. Good news: Colorado has hundreds of great family child care programs, licensed by the state to rigorous quality standards. Even so, you might understandably be feeling a little nervous about choosing one. After all, you’ll be leaving your baby all day with these people, and it’s not like your baby can tell you how that’s going.

“You want to make sure they’re in an environment that’s healthy and safe,” says Theresa Rapstine, RN, a nurse on Children’s Hospital Colorado’s school health team. “Luckily, there are a lot of great ways to find information about child care.”

What to look for in a child care program

All licensed child care programs (and licensed ones are the best way to go, says Rapstine) keep a handbook of policies and procedures with info on everything from their curriculum to their menus. Parents can also ask for a tour to see the facilities, meet the caregivers and ask questions.

The key, Rapstine says, is knowing what to ask.

    What will my baby eat?

If you’re nursing, ask if you can breastfeed during the day, or if they’ll feed your pumped breast milk when you can’t make it. And keep in mind that your baby will be starting on solids before you know it. When they do, they’ll need healthy, balanced meals.

How much time will my baby spend outside?

Children, even babies, should get at least 30 minutes outside every day. Ideally, they’ll get even more.

    What’s the immunization policy?

All licensed child care centers in Colorado have an immunization policy, although the particulars vary. It’s also worth asking about their immunization rates.

When can I visit my baby?

“You want to be able to visit at all times of the day,” says Rapstine. “Not just certain hours.”

    Where will my baby sleep?

Safe sleep is important. Every baby in the program should be in a safe, clean sleeping environment with no blankets, no bumpers and no toys — just a firm mattress and a fitted sheet.

What will my baby do all day?

Any licensed child care program meets curriculum standards that encourage children’s physical, cognitive and social-emotional development. What shape that takes may vary, though, so ask lots of questions about their daily agenda.

What do you do when babies cry?

You should be comfortable with the program’s approach. “The most important thing,” says Rapstine, “is that they share your family’s values.”

Colorado Shines: a great child care resource

The State of Colorado tours child care programs, too — and they compile the in-depth information they gather into a quality rating system you can access for free. It’s called Colorado Shines, and when it comes to choosing child care, it’s a parent’s best friend.

Simply use the site’s search function to connect with programs in your area. Programs rated level 1 or 2 are in good standing with the state, where programs rated level 3 to 5 are considered high quality, meaning they’ve demonstrated advanced practices in health and safety, staff education and training, learning environment and other areas.

“For any parent looking for a good child care program,” says Rapstine, “this is a great, comprehensive tool.”

Healthy Child Care Colorado: looking out for Colorado kids

Aside from her work on Children’s Colorado’s team of more than 40 school nurses, Rapstine works as a consultant with Healthy Child Care Colorado, a nonprofit public-private partnership that includes Children’s Colorado, state agencies and other nonprofits. Dedicated to health, safety and wellness in early childhood settings, the nurses and pediatricians who serve as child care health consultants play a crucial role in advocating for kids’ health where many kids spend most of their waking hours — in the child care setting.

    S² Philosophy

The S-squared philosophy is our belief that every child needs seed deposits of security, stability and stimulation in order to grow cognitively, emotionally and physically. This cultivation begins in our Seedling Infant Program and continues in our Toddler and Preschool programs.

In the same way that we experience the world through our five senses, the S² philosophy encompasses five sensory experiences:

    1. emotional stimulation – providing experiences that make your baby feel safe, excited, and happy

    2. environmental stimulation – providing an environment that has developmentally appropriate toys to explore

    3. language stimulation – talking to babies, narrating what they are experiencing and what is going on around them

    4. physical stimulation – providing tummy time and floor time to reach developmental milestones such as eye-tracking, holding their head up, rolling over, reaching for objects and crawling

    5. neurological stimulation – combining these experiences to increase the brain’s ability to make connections

    Quality Alexandria Infant Day Care

Every baby has a different temperament and our caregivers take the time to understand and meet each infant’s individual needs.

When your infant is enrolled into our program, please provide us with an information sheet that lets us know how your routine at home has been. This information sheet will help our caregivers establish a similar routine as your baby transitions to his or her new environment.

There are so many milestones that are reached when children are in child care, and communicating through the HiMama app. serves as the eyes and ears of your child’s experiences at The Vine Preschool. This is also the place where parents can provide the caregiver with information such as the child’s disposition the night before, like having restlessness night due to teething.

Each baby is assigned their very own crib and we support the Safe to Sleep Campaign (formerly called the Back to Sleep Campaign) by always placing babies in the crib on their backs to sleep. Your baby will not have a set schedule, as babies are fed on demand.

    02. Kindergartens – Nordherz Hamburg

It is important for children to start attending daycare as early as possible in order to optimally develop and improve their language skills. nine0043 Children over the age of one are legally entitled to a place in childcare.

In Germany, there are different childcare facilities and childcare options:
up to three years of age:
    * baby groups (Krabbelgruppen)
    * babysitters and nannies (Tagesmütter/Tagesväter)
    * Play clubs (Spielkreise)
    * Nurseries (Kinderkrippen)
    * Kindergartens with mixed age groups (altersgemischte Kindergärten)
from three years before entering school:
    * kindergartens (Kindergärten)
    * other preschools
    * nannies and nannies (Tagesmütter/Tagesväter)
    from school age:
    * schools with full-time education (Ganztagsschulen)
    * after-school groups (Horte)
    * homework help groups (Hausaufgabenbetreuung)

    Kindergarten expenses
Nursery school stays up to 5 hours a day, including lunch, free of charge for families. To be eligible for free kindergarten access, you must apply for a kindergarten voucher (Kita-Gutschein). When attending a kindergarten for more than 5 hours a day, parents must pay part of the costs themselves, the so-called parental contribution (the amount depends on income, number of family members and the scope of child care services). nine0003

You can apply for a Kita voucher for a longer period of care if you are unable to look after your child on your own because you are working, studying or taking vocational training and development, participating in work integration activities or attending courses German for migrants or integration courses. Your child may receive a longer period of care from birth until they are 14 years old. You can take advantage of care according to your needs in kindergarten, day care or a combination of both types of care. nine0003

Please note that a day care voucher or day care permit can only be issued if neither you nor your partner can look after your child. The duration of care depends on the time during which neither parent can independently look after the child. Travel time to work/courses and back is also taken into account. Approximate algorithm of actions: 1) take a document about attending courses. It must be visible from what time and until what time and on what days of the week courses / work are held; 2) fill out the Kita-Gutschein form for 6 hours, which indicates both the time of the courses, the language school, and the road before and after the courses in minutes. 3) Declaration of income plus a copy of the Leistungsbescheid. Submit all these documents to a special department of Bezirksamt. nine0003

You can also get a day care voucher or day care permit for your child if there is an urgent social or educational need and therefore longer care in day care or day care is required. The day care department of the county government responsible for you will let you know.

How to find a place in a kindergarten?

The best way is to contact kindergartens in your area and ask if there are places available. How to find your nearest kindergarten: https://www.hamburg.de/kita-finden Here you will find a database of kindergartens and kindergartens marked on the city map. You can use the database or city map to view contact information for kindergartens and preschools in Hamburg. An alternative to kindergartens is day care. In this form of care, a nanny takes care of five children in her own home. You can find more information here: https://www.hamburg.de/kindertagespflege

If you cannot find a free place:
Contact the childcare department in your district office https://www.hamburg.de/jugendaemter. They will help you find a place in a kindergarten and apply for a place.

    Kindergarten voucher (Kita-Gutschein)

Kindergarten voucher (Kita-Gutschein) can be applied for online via the Hamburg Service Portal https://serviceportal.hamburg.de/HamburgGateway/Service/Entry /AFM-KitaG Or you can contact your local childcare department. The responsible agency depends on where you survive. To find out which office is responsible, use the Find Office function of the Kindertagesbetreuung (Kita), Erstantrag / Neuantrag (hamburg.de) To do this, enter your current address. Then click on the red button. You will then see the department’s contact details. Parents can use the voucher at any kindergarten participating in the Kita-Gutschein program. The kindergarten voucher (Kita-Gutschein) is valid for a maximum of one year. No later than three months before the expiration of its validity, you must apply for an extension of the voucher. nine0003

    Could be a 10 but. ..

It’s acted very well and has many thought provoking life lessons, but as a protagonist Kristy is pretty insufferable, and sometimes it’s hard to get invested in the story or the characters, but they definitely should make a season 2, 6.5/10.

    • Tips For Your Baby’s Second Month

You’ve gotten past the newborn phase, and now, in the second month, you’re starting to get a sense of your baby’s personality. You’re also learning what makes your 2-month-old tick — from likes and dislikes, to crying triggers, which are pretty basic at this point: hunger, sleepiness, and dirty diapers.

This portion of WebMD’s month-by-month guide describes a few of the baby milestones you can expect your child to reach at two months.

Second Month Baby Milestones: Motor Skills

Two-month-old babies are gaining more control over their bodies. That means they can hold their head a little steadier while lying on their tummies or being supported upright.

In the second month of life, babies continue to have a strong sucking reflex. You may notice your baby likes to suck on a fist or a few fingers. This is one of the best ways babies have of comforting themselves.

At 2 months, your baby doesn’t yet have the coordination to play with toys. But she may bat at a colorful object hanging in front of her. Your baby may even briefly hold a toy that you place in one of her hands.

    Second Month Baby Milestones: Sleep

Your baby’s sleep patterns are evolving, but at two months, they still aren’t fully established. At this age, babies sleep 15 to 16 hours a day. But those hours are sporadic, and they usually aren’t ready to sleep through the night. This is especially true for breastfed babies, who generally wake up to eat every three hours or so.

Hang in there for just a few more weeks and you’ll be able to get some much-needed rest. You may even be able to get to a full night’s sleep earlier by helping your baby learn how to fall asleep on her own. Do this by putting your baby into the crib when she’s drowsy rather than fast asleep. She can sleep in your room with you, but it’s not recommended that you have her in your bed.

All babies need to be put to sleep on their backs on  firm, flat surface to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). You can provide plenty of tummy time when your baby is awake and supervised. Also, remove all soft objects from Baby’s crib, including pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, and soft bumpers.

    Second Month Baby Milestones: Eating

At 2 months, your baby should be taking around 4 ounces at each feeding, and both breast and bottle feedings should be at least every 3 to 4 hours during the day with longer stretches at night. If your baby is having problems gaining weight, your pediatrician will probably advise not to go too long without feeding, even if it means waking your baby.

Expect at least 4 to 6 wet diapers a day. The frequency of poopy diapers may range from a few each day to once every few days. If you’re breastfeeding, your baby’s stools should be soft and slightly runny. If you’re formula-feeding, your baby’s stools will probably be a little firmer, but should not be hard or formed. The color can also vary but should never be red, white, or black.

Breastfed infants should be getting vitamin D supplements starting soon after birth, but other supplements, water, juice, and solid foods usually aren’t necessary. Your pediatrician will recommend what’s best for you and your baby.

Second Month Baby Milestones: The Senses

At two months, babies can see objects — and people — from up to 18 inches away. That means you still need to get pretty close, but your baby will be able to see your face pretty well while feeding. She should also be able to follow movements when you walk close by.

Baby’s hearing is improving, too. Your 2-month-old will especially enjoy listening to the sound of your voice.

    Second Month Baby Milestones: Communication

For a 2-month-old, most communication consists of crying. But you may hear a few gurgles, grunts, and even some sweet coos. Your baby should recognize your face and voice, and respond to them. You might even see the first adorable hint of a smile.

One of the most important things you can do at this age is talk to your baby. Even though 2-month-old babies can’t talk back, they will respond to the sound of your voice, and it will encourage them to start forming their own first words in the coming months.

Tips For Your Baby’s Second Month

    • The first few months of a baby’s life are exciting and nerve-wracking for new parents. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice when you need it. Your pediatrician is the best source for information, but family and friends are good back-ups.
    • Information on WebMD and many other websites are regularly reviewed by experts to ensure that the information is reliable. However, the internet is also a place where there is a lot of misinformation. Be sure you know the source of medical and other information you read online.

    • Parents today are always on the go. As a result, babies spend a lot of time in car seats and carriers. Babies should have the chance to move around in different positions during the day so they can use the muscles they’ll need for rolling, crawling, and eventually walking. Alternate the carrier with periods of tummy time, stroller walks, and plenty of cuddles in your arms. Babies should not routinely sleep in carriers, car seats, or bouncy seats.
    • Touch is very important during baby’s first months. Try some skin-to-skin contact. Some experts recommend baby massage, but just holding or rocking her is enough.
    • When your infant cries, try different soothing techniques. Some babies respond to soft music or singing. Others are calmed by ”white noise” (for example, running the vacuum cleaner or placing the radio dial between stations). If you haven’t already done so, try introducing a pacifier. They are soothing and have also been found to help prevent SIDS. Experiment to find what works best for your 2-month-old.

Why Does My Baby Make Bubbles In Their Sleep? Here’s The Science

    Baby

It’s totally normal… and kind of cute.

And then your baby does something strange and you’re just at a loss — like that bubble thing. Honestly, why does a newborn spit bubbles while sleeping? Turns out, it’s pretty normal.

When we’re talking about blowing bubbles, we don’t mean the kind that come out of jar with a cute wand. Some people refer to it as a frothy substance that comes out of their baby’s mouth. Others say it looks like spit in the corners of their baby’s mouth. The one thing these descriptions have in common is a lovely thing called saliva (so, no, it is not caused by soapy milk). But what does it mean exactly when a newborn sleeps with a foamy mouth?

Why do newborns blow bubbles while sleeping?

If your 2-week old baby spits bubbles while sleeping, it isn’t typically a cause for alarm. In fact, it’s usually a result of gravity. “When babies sleep on their backs, saliva will usually go down the back of their throats and then be swallowed,” Dr. Jessica Madden, M.D., FAAP, IBCLC, founder of Primrose Newborn Care, tells Romper. “When they are sleeping on their stomach or side, saliva can easily pool and escape through their mouths. This is the same reason that some older children and adults drool when they sleep (including me).”

    gipi23/E+/Getty Images

Blowing bubbles is also actually a healthy part of development for many babies. “This is a normal part of oral-motor function development that occurs between 3 and 6 months of age,” Madden says. “Drooling is also associated with teething, and many babies get their first tooth around 6 months or so.” Of course, the bubbles your baby makes while they are sleeping are likely not meant to communicate anything to you, at least on a conscious level.

So long as it’s not a massive amount of spit, drooling while sleeping just shows that your baby is developing. “Babies are born with salivary glands, but they do not start to rapidly develop until they are between 3 and 6 months old,” Madden explains. “So babies make small amounts of saliva after birth, but not copious amounts until they are at least 2 to 3 months old.”

In short, the increased saliva that begins appearing around the 2-month mark is the reason your baby can make those bubbles in the first place. Your baby is also experimenting with new facial movements and new motor skills, essentially putting that saliva to work. If the bubble-blowing during sleep isn’t waking your baby up, then the only downside to it all is your picture-perfect photo op being a little more, well, foamy and bubbly looking.

Can newborns have excessive saliva bubbles?

    ViewStock/View Stock/Getty Images

Drooling and making spit bubbles while sleeping is very normal, for the most part. However, if the drooling seems excessive, or if your baby appears to be ill, it is best to check with your child’s doctor to rule out something else. “Lots of drooling is not normal during the newborn period,” Madden says. “Any newborn or young infant (less than 2 months old) with a lot of drooling needs to be evaluated to make sure they do not have a problem with swallowing or their esophagus.”

Another cause of increased drooling, especially as your baby gets older, is a common cold. “Older infants may start to sleep with their mouths open and drool more when they are asleep if they have nasal obstruction (i.e. from mucus with a cold virus),” Madden says. “This should improve as they recover from having a cold.”

Still, precautions should be taken if you notice a major increase in saliva by your baby at any age. “A sudden onset of excessive drooling should be evaluated at any age to make sure there is not a problem with something blocking the throat, such as a foreign body, or an infection of the tonsils or epiglottis,” Madden says.

All in all, drooling is incredibly common — at all ages, of course, but especially for a developing newborn. As with all concerns, though, if you have questions about your baby’s health, definitely reach out to pediatrician for medical advice.

Why does a 2-month-old baby drool?

The “slobbery” period of life in children begins not from birth, but after two months. Often this causes a lot of problems not only for the mother, who constantly has to change clothes, but also for the child. He may have severe irritation due to saliva flowing all the time, up to sores. Let’s find out why a 2-month-old baby is drooling and whether it is possible to somehow influence their quantity to alleviate this difficult period.

Why does saliva flow at 2 months? nine0005

It is at the age of two months that the salivary glands begin to work actively, which until this moment have not yet awakened. But this work does not go smoothly and stably, because the body is just trying its capabilities.

There are other reasons why a baby may still drool at 2 months. The main one is teething. No, at 2-3 months, teeth appear only in a small number of babies, but the body prepares the oral cavity in this way. Salivary fluid partially anesthetizes the gums, in which the eruption process is taking place. nine0003

In addition, saliva contains natural bactericidal substances that help protect the oral cavity from pathogenic bacteria, of which quite a lot enters here. After 2-3 months, the baby actively begins to explore the surrounding objects, including his fingers in the only way available to him – he pulls everything into his mouth. Nature took care that washing with salivary liquid neutralized unnecessary substances that got here.

Don’t forget to give your baby soft rubber rings and teething toys, which will soothe itchy gums a bit and soothe your baby. nine0003

Unfortunately, there is also a condition called hypresalivation – a disorder in the nervous and endocrine systems. At an early age, they are not yet visible, but one of the signs may be just excessive salivation. Therefore, if a mother sees that there is too much saliva, it would be useful to seek advice.

Why does a baby drool at 3 months?

nine0002 At the age of 2-3 months, the active process of dentition begins in the crumbs, and although it occurs exclusively in the gums, and it is still very far from eruption, this gives them considerable discomfort. This becomes the main cause of increased salivation in children.

Can I turn on the air conditioner when I am a baby?

In the summer, when the thermometer often goes off scale from the sweltering heat, you can only save yourself with air conditioning. But when there is a small child in the house, parents often do not turn it on, afraid of catching a cold for the baby. Whether the air conditioner is dangerous and whether it can be used with a child, let’s see. nine0003

Why does the baby cry after bathing?

Only a few parents do not face the problem of unwillingness to bathe the baby. Although most children love water, they still begin to protest, if not before, then certainly after water procedures. It is worth understanding the reasons for what is happening, and perhaps the problem will be eliminated by itself.

    Monthly baby routine

nine0002 Starting from infancy, the child simply needs to organize the day by setting a certain routine for it, because children are very fond of stability, and not spontaneous actions. It favorably influences a healthy, sound sleep, good appetite and mood.

Development of a child at 2 months

At 2 months, the child’s motor skills are honed. It becomes easier for the child to control his body, some sharp and unconscious movements become a thing of the past, the crawling reflex disappears. The grasping reflex begins to develop well, it is expressed more and more in the grip of the fingers or hair of adults by the child. Often a child at two months old can already hold a small toy in his hands for some time, pressing it with his palm. nine0003

In addition, the baby likes to put everything in his mouth and taste it. At this age, the baby can open his hand on his own, so you can often see his fingers in the crumbs’ mouth. At 2 months, the baby should be able to hold his head well in a raised position and in an upright position. The baby is able to lie on his tummy to independently raise his chest and head and stay in this position for up to twenty seconds.

A two-month-old child actively explores the world around him with interest. At 2 months, the child should be able to distinguish between strangers and familiar voices. He often smiles at his father and mother, and at the same time carefully and warily looks into the face bent over him. The child can distinguish between unloved and favorite objects, he is drawn to everything that interests him. The attention of the baby begins to attract sounding and moving objects. He can follow how they move, the child listens to sounds and stretches in the direction of the object with his tiny hand. nine0003

At this age, mom and dad can hear sounds from their baby that are somewhat reminiscent of singing. These are the sounds usually uttered before the start of the hum. At this time, the baby is trying to reproduce the sounds he hears from the people around him.

And although it may seem to you that such sounds are meaningless, still help the baby to pronounce them, sing along with him, and then you will notice that a child at 2 months can pronounce sounds well.

What developmental games and activities does a 2-month-old baby need? nine0054

Although the baby is still tiny, he is already actively developing. At this time, his hearing, vision, coordination of movements and motor skills are improved. Therefore, the child needs activities and games for development. Moreover, you need to include them in the crumbs schedule every day. Due to the increasing attention to the objects surrounding the child, offer him games with objects to develop his vision. Let’s say you can move a small toy at a distance of thirty cm from the face of the crumbs, but just choose something bright and colorful. Then the baby will concentrate his attention on her and, accordingly, drive his eyes. And subsequently, the baby’s vision will become better. nine0003

It is necessary to constantly monitor the child’s mood. If you notice that he is bitching and unhappy, stop the game. It is good to use various patterns for the development of the crumbs’ vision: black and white, color, with pictures. Hang them in the child’s field of vision.

To improve the grasping reflex of the crumbs and develop his motor skills of very small hands, play balls with the baby. Find balls of different sizes, textures and colors, made from various materials. It can be wooden, plastic, rag balls. Put them in turn in the palm of the crumbs, invite him to grab the ball. Later, you can hang the balloon on a string and gently lower it into the child’s hand. At the same time, offer the baby to grab the ball, then slowly sip the ball, stimulate the baby to hold the ball tighter. After all, at 2 months the child should be able to do this. nine0003

Since the baby’s motor skills are developing well at two months, you can already do exercises that help strengthen the baby’s muscles. This is especially true of the back, neck muscles, arms. Putting the baby on the changing table on the tummy, sit down next to him and call him by name and at the same time show some bright toy. Interested, the child will try to raise his head to look at the toy.

The parents of a 4 year old child present with concerns about drooling. Severe drooling may be associated with comorbidities, such as cerebral palsy, severe mental retardation, and hypoxic encephalopathy, and affects the wellbeing of children with disabilities as well as increasing the demand on their carers. Treatment improves children’s quality of life and reduces their care burden.1 2

    What issues you should cover

    • Is the onset sudden? This raises the possibility of oropharyngeal infection or a swallowed foreign body, which should be evident from history taking and examination of the throat.

    • Does the child have developmental delay? Drooling in a child with developmental delay and comorbidity is more likely to be a serious long term issue.

    • What is the impact of drooling on the quality of life of the child and the parents or carers?

      • -Is there perioral soreness?

      • -How often do bibs or clothes need to be changed?

      • -Is drooling causing toys, computers, and other electronic devices to get damp, malfunction, or stop working?

      • -Is there evidence that drooling affects interactions with other children?

      • -Do the parents think that the child’s self esteem is being affected?

    • Is the child getting recurrent chest infections? If the child is choking on food, a swallowing assessment of aspiration risk may be needed. Spontaneous choking on saliva in the presence of chest infections strongly indicates that an intervention should be considered.

    • Is this true hypersalivation (which is relatively unusual), or drooling due to an open mouth posture or to impaired oromotor control? Hypersalivation is associated with:

      • -Gastro-oesophageal reflux; ask about vomiting, chronic cough, retrosternal pain, and failure to thrive

      • -Dental disease, or

      • -Drugs with cholinergic effects—take a drug history, asking particularly about anticonvulsants, antipsychotics, and cholinergic agonists for myasthenia gravis.3

    • An open mouth posture due to nasal obstruction or dental malocclusion may cause drooling. Ask parents about mouth breathing during the day or snoring when asleep, which may indicate nasal obstruction.

    • Poor oromotor control is common in children with neurological disabilities.

    Ear, nose, and throat examination

    • Examine the oral cavity and oropharynx. Assess dental hygiene, looking for dental malocclusion or signs of obvious dental disease.

    • Inspect head position at rest for different types of torticollis.

    • Look for salivary gland swelling or oropharyngeal masses affecting tongue or lip movement that are reducing the ability to swallow or retain saliva in the mouth.

    • Consider as a red flag any lumps suspicious for malignancy in the oropharynx or the lips.

    What you should do

    • Offer reassurance to the parents of otherwise healthy children under 6 years old.

      • -Explain to parents that drooling will probably resolve spontaneously when the child becomes more socially aware.

      • -Advise parents to encourage children to wipe their mouths, swallow with their mouths closed, and obtain the upright head position. Such measures often resolve the problem.

    • Consider advising on the importance of head positioning in children with neurological deficits and restricted motility. Place the work desk, dinner table, and electronic devices so that the child’s head does not have to be flexed forward. If the child is in a wheelchair, also adjust the headrest to minimise this posture.

    • Consider oral motor skills training for children who are old enough or able to take instructions. Encourage parents to expose the child to a wide range of food with varied textures and temperatures to promote oral sensory awareness. Consider referral to a speech and language therapist for an exercise programme aimed at improving lip and jaw closure and tongue movements.3

    • If there is evidence of reflux, consider anti-reflux measures, such as a trial of smaller and more frequent feeds and alginate therapy in infants, or a trial of a proton pump inhibitor in children with persistent retrosternal pain.

    • Nasal obstruction may be amenable to a trial of an intranasal steroid.

    • Refer children with dental disease or serious malocclusion to a dentist or orthodontist.

    • If drooling is caused by hypersalivation due to specific drugs that cannot be stopped, consider dose adjustment by the responsible specialist or referral to a paediatric ear, nose, and throat surgeon.

    • In children who do not respond to head posture adjustments and oral motor skills training, who are over 6 years old and otherwise healthy, consider drug treatment:

      • -Anticholinergic agents (hyoscine hydrobromide patches, oral glycopyrronium bromide, and trihexyphenidyl) are used “off license” for the control of drooling, although their use is widespread. Glycopyrronium is licensed in the United States for children aged 3-16 years with a neurological condition and evidence supports its effectiveness. 4 Dosage is generally titrated according to weight, starting low and increasing according to response and side effects.

      • -Side effects are common, with behavioural changes, hyperactivity, and irritability as well as constipation, vomiting, dry mouth, urinary retention, and thickened secretions. Ask about these side effects specifically to ensure that they are not masked by the general level of comorbidity in these patients. Skin reactions to hyoscine patches commonly cause discontinuation of treatment.

    • Consider referral to a paediatric ear, nose, and throat surgeon if the above measures fail or are not tolerated.

    • The difficulties encountered with medical treatment and the impact on quality of life of severe drooling make referral to specialist therapy attractive (box).

    Referral for a drooling child
    Criteria
    • Failure to respond to oral motor training or medical treatment

    • Recurrent chest infections or aspiration

    • Oral or dental disease

Interventions available in secondary and tertiary care
    • Botulinum toxin injections into the salivary glands usually require general anaesthesia but have therapeutic benefits. 5 The response is transient, lasting 3-6 months. This may be an advantage when the long term oromotor control status of the child is unclear. The main risk is dysphagia, which can require temporary nasogastric feeding if severe

    • Surgical options include salivary duct clipping, submandibular duct relocation, and submandibular gland excision

      When Do Babies Stop Drooling?

If you are a new parent, you are probably wondering when your baby reaches his or her new milestone in life such as walking or dropping to one nap. Moreover, there might be questions lingering in your mind and “when do babies stop drooling” might be one of them. Drooling may be caused by various things. Let us find out more about it in this article.

      Why do Babies Drool?

Babies drool for various reasons. However, identifying the reasons may help you manage the drooling with your baby. Besides, if you are able to know the reasons, you might even be able to prevent it. Here are some of the common reasons why baby drools constantly:

      1. Teething

When babies are teething it may cause immense discomfort to the gums and oral cavity of your baby. Moreover, teething may even affect your baby’s sleep patterns. When your baby is teething, it may cause excessive drooling, especially if your baby is feeling discomfort during teething. Moreover, baby teeth have roots and it may take some time to develop and cause some inflammation in the gums of your baby.

      2. Low oral sensory awareness

Babies develop their sensory skills as they develop. Moreover, they learn about their bodies in various ways and they may develop their body map over time. When babies are just a few months old, they usually have low oral sensory awareness which may cause them to drool without noticing it. Sensory awareness eventually develops in babies and it is not a cause of concern in the first few months of your baby’s life.

      3. The mouth is often open

Babies may play with their mouths or tongue as they grow. Moreover, they may even stick their tongues out as a way to communicate or for other various reasons. But, when babies stick their tongues out very often, it may cause them to drool excessively. Also, when the mouth is often open, it gives your baby fewer chances to swallow saliva and in turn constantly makes your baby drool.

      4. Difficulty in swallowing

Babies may have difficulty in swallowing for various reasons. It may be due to a mouth infection, teething pains or other medical conditions. Due to the difficulty in swallowing that your baby may have experienced, it may cause babies to drool excessively. Once you notice your baby drooling excessively due to a suspected mouth infection or medical condition, you may want to bring your child to his or her pediatrician.

      5. Craving

It is a normal reaction for babies to drool when they are craving for something, especially food. However, in babies, this may also happen to non-food items that may look tasty to them. Besides, even adults produce excess saliva when they are craving for something and it is something that is deeply rooted in childhood. When babies crave for something, they may drool excessively for a short time. However, when their craving is satisfied, it usually stops or goes away.

      6. Focused on motor activities

Babies don’t always have fine motor skills the moment they enter the outside world. Moreover, motor skills often develop as your baby grows. During the first few months when your baby becomes more mobile, he or she may not be able to focus on multiple things at the same time. Besides, when a baby is very focused on a specific motor task, he or she may have difficulty focusing on their mouths and they eventually begin to drool.

      7. Side effects of some medications

Some medications can increase your baby’s saliva as a side effect. Moreover, some medications do not taste good for your baby and may, therefore, cause drooling. Ask your pediatrician about the potential side effects of some medications that your pediatrician has prescribed. But, if drooling is only caused by the taste of the oral medication, you can expect it to go away when your baby is done with the medication.

      8. Poor facial muscle strength

Babies develop their motor skills and muscle strength as they grow. However, facial muscle strength may need more time to develop. At first, facial and oral muscles aren’t strong. But, as babies practice their facial muscles, their strength eventually develops. However, some medical conditions affect the overall muscle strength of your baby. Some conditions may cause facial muscle paralysis of all ages. So, you might want to get your baby screened for these conditions if you suspect weak facial muscles. This may cause excessive drooling that may not go away as your baby age. On the contrary, drooling may get worse if the condition is not addressed.

      When do Babies Stop Drooling?

Drooling is usually begins to slow down when your baby is 6 months old. However, there may still be some drooling after this age. Babies almost entirely stop drooling at around 24 months old. But, many things may affect the drooling of your baby. But, if you suspect that the excessive drooling is due to a medical condition, you have to consult your pediatrician for possible interventions to help your baby.

How to Help Baby Stop Drooling?

Babies don’t always stop drooling at the same age. If ever your baby has stopped drooling at an earlier age, it is totally fine since even twins and multiples may differ to some extent. On the other hand, if your baby is still drooling past 24 months of age, it may be fine as long as there is no underlying medical condition that is causing it.

When do babies stop drooling? Usually, drooling is lessened when your baby reaches 6 months old and drooling is almost eliminated at 24 months old. Many things may cause your baby to drool which is normal. But, if drooling is caused by a medical condition, it has to be addressed.

      • You must measure the dose of CUVPOSA before giving it to your child. Use a special marked dose measuring cup (available at most pharmacies) to measure the right dose of CUVPOSA.
      • To help make sure that your child swallows the dose, you should use an oral syringe to give the child each dose of CUVPOSA, after you measure the dose needed with a dose measuring cup. Oral syringes are also available at most pharmacies.
      • If you have questions about how to measure the dose or how to use an oral syringe, ask your pharmacist or doctor.
      • The dose of CUVPOSA that is needed to control drooling may be different for each child. CUVPOSA is usually started at a low dose, and slowly increased as directed by your doctor. This slow increase in dose continues until the best dose for your child is reached, to control drooling.
      • During this time it is important to stay in close contact with your child’s doctor, and tell the doctor about any side effects that your child has. See “Warnings”.

Drool Rashes: What You Need to Know

Drool Rashes: What You Need to Know

This entry was posted in Uncategorized and tagged drool rash, infant rash, rash around mouth on by Jamie Spence.

Skin irritation caused by constant contact with saliva is known as a drool rash. A drool rash can appear around the mouth and on the cheeks, in the folds of skin on your baby’s neck, and on your baby’s chest as a result of the skin being continuously wet with saliva. These patches of irritated skin may be moist or dry. While drool rash is not contagious, the red, itchy, bumpy patches on your baby’s skin will be uncomfortable for them.

Drooling is a natural occurrence. Your baby’s salivary glands typically begin to function between 2 and 3 months of age. It is often a side effect of teething, when a baby’s teeth begin to emerge through their gums. However, your baby may begin drooling long before the teeth come in or continue for months after. Babies begin to stop drooling around the ages of 15 to 18 months old.

While drooling, also known as sialorrhea, is common in healthy infants, excessive saliva contact frequently irritates the skin and causes drool rash. Drool rashes typically present as flat or slightly raised patches of skin. The skin may have a chapped appearance or have small, red bumps.

It’s difficult to prevent a drool rash because it’s difficult to keep your baby from drooling! Besides teething, babies may also drool for other reasons:

      • tendency to keep their mouth slightly open
      • a limited ability to swallow
      • no front teeth

Here are some tips to that can help to prevent a drool rash:

      • Keep a soft cloth on hand to gently wipe away any drool you see.
      • Wipe your baby’s face and the skin folds of the neck after feedings.
      • Keep your baby’s skin clean and as dry as you can. If you have to use a damp cloth to get them clean after a feeding, try to use soft pressure and a dabbing motion to avoid irritating your baby’s skin. It’s best to use water to dampen the cloth, as opposed to soap, which can also cause irritation.
      • Use a waterproof or absorbent bib on the baby to help prevent saliva from running down under their chin or getting on their chest and clothing. Wet material rubbing against your baby’s skin often causes uncomfortable chafing and a drool rash. Change bibs as soon as they become wet with drool.
      • Change your baby into clean, dry clothes whenever their clothing becomes wet from saliva.

There are several simple actions you can take to reduce the discomfort your baby is experiencing from drool rash. Your primary goal is to keep the baby’s skin dry throughout the day and prevent more skin irritation from developing.

      • Gently wash any irritated areas of skin with warm water twice a day. Softly pat the skin dry rather than rubbing. Be sure your baby’s skin is completely dry.
      • As soon as any drool appears on your baby’s skin, wipe it away with a soft cloth to prevent further irritation to the area.
      • If teething seems to be the cause of the excess saliva, try giving your baby a teething toy. Cold toys such as a teething ring or a wet washcloth kept in the refrigerator may be particularly soothing to them. Be sure to pat the skin around the mouth dry afterwards.
      • Apply a barrier cream or ointment to the rash areas to encourage the baby’s skin to heal. Please contact Dr. Leung for recommendations before using any new products, especially near your baby’s mouth. Avoid using lotions on the irritated skin.

It can be helpful to use fragrance-free laundry detergents, soaps, and baby washes made for sensitive skin. You’ll want to avoid using any products that are harsh, drying, or heavily fragranced, as these can cause irritation. Also, be sure to always use clean and sterilized baby bottles and pacifiers. If you’re using any items that appear to make the rash worse, discontinue use immediately.

In most cases, a drool rash is a minor irritation that heals with consistent at-home treatment. However, if you notice any of the following, please call our office immediately for a same-day sick visit:

      • breathing or swallowing seems labored
      • baby is refusing food or eating/drinking less
      • baby is holding his or her head in a strange position
      • fever
      • baby seems unusually irritable or fussy
      • the irritated skin is cracked, weeping, or causing your baby pain

If the rash doesn’t improve after five to seven days of home treatment, please make an appointment with our office, especially if the rash is severe, getting worse, or seems unusually itchy or painful. In some situations, Dr. Leung may need to prescribe creams that can help your baby’s drool rash heal faster and make them more comfortable. As always, we’re here for our families, so if you have any concerns or questions, we want to hear from you! Please call: 469-425-3600.

      Can the dummy cause dribbling?

      Advertisements

Babies who use the dummy often open their mouths, causing more dribbling. It is normal for children to dribble or drool in the first 2 years. This can often be due to teething.

There is nothing wrong with the baby or even the amount of saliva. Babies who use a pacifier may develop a drooling rash because the skin around the pacifier is constantly moist.

Why does my child keep dribbling?

Saliva in young children is a normal part of development. Their teeth go down, they put everything in their mouths, and they haven’t quietly developed the habit of keeping their lips together. As children get older, they learn to control their saliva, and most of them don’t drool after the age of four.

At what age should you dispose of the mannequin?

kettles can be helpful to help babies build up on their own for the first four or five months, but it’s generally recommended that parents try to wean their baby’s dummy between six and 12 months.

How often should you sterilize the manikin?

      Maintain dummy clean

Clean and sterilize your baby’s dummies every day and keep them in a container when not in use. Never put the dummy in the mouth (to “clean” it) and never put food or other substance (such as honey) on the dummy. From about 6 months old, your baby will be more resistant to infections.

How do I wean my 2 year old off the dummy?

      Dummy Weaning Tips

      1. Take some pressure off by reminding yourself that sucking on a dummy never becomes a lifelong habit. Many children will stop using the mannequin.
      2. Choose your time. …
      3. Talk to your child about giving up the dummy if your child is old enough to understand.

Why is my 2 year old dripping all the time?

Drooling in babies and toddlers is often associated with teething, but can also be a sign of a larger health problem that could affect your baby’s speech development.

Why is my 4 year old dribbling?

is considered abnormal for a child over four years of age showing persistent drooling and this problem is most commonly seen in cerebral palsy or other conditions with severe neurological impairment. There is a small group of able-bodied children who drool until the age of six.

Why is my 3 year old suddenly drooling?

Drooling is also a common sign of teething. salivation. Gingivostomatitis, dental caries, inflammation of the tonsils, abdominal or retropharyngeal abscess, epiglottis, and foreign bodies can also cause drooling. These conditions are usually acute at the onset.

Why does my newborn have saliva bubbles?

‹Saliva bubbles and blowing bubbles are common in children during the developmental phase when getting what they need, focused on the mouth . This becomes especially evident between the ages of 3 and 6 months.

      How can I stop dribbling?

5 tips to stop drooling for baby

      1. Remove supervision or limited time to nap time and bed time.
      2. Encourage your child to use a straw cup or drink instead of a bottle.
      3. Teach your child about the difference between a “stroke” face and a “face”.

How can I stop my child from drooling so much?

      treatment

      1. Always have clean tissues or baby wipes on hand and wipe the baby’s face dry as soon as drooling appears.
      2. If the teeth seem to make the baby drool, try giving them a teething toy or something cold to chew on, such as a teething ring from the refrigerator.

      Does Dumminite affect the teeth?

dummies can cause problems for your child’s teeth as they grow and develop . The longer your child uses the manikin, the more likely it is that their mouth structure will be affected. This in turn can affect how his teeth and his permanent teeth later meet when he closes his mouth or when he bites.

      Advertisements

do people talk less to children with kettles?

A child who uses the manikin regularly after 12 months of age may be more likely to develop speech sounds that cause the front of the mouth, including P, b, t, d, s, and then speech therapy may be needed.

      Can a dummy cause stuttering?

Research to date shows that there is no strong or consistent association between sham usage and speech development . Prolonged sham use can adversely affect speech development.

Does saliva reduce the symptom of autism?

But for children with developmental disorders, drooling is often incited and longer than is typical for other children. This includes children with autism, many of whom have delays and difficulty in muscle control and sensation.

How do you feel about hyperflooding at home?

Some ways people can control excess saliva production include:

      1. Suck on hard candy.
      2. chewing gum.
      3. Wear a bracelet to gently wipe your mouth.

What are the signs of autism at 2 years of age?

What are the signs of autism between the ages of 2 and 3?

      • May not be able to speak,
      • Use objects in different ways, such as lining up toys instead of playing with them,
      • Have limited speech,
      • Struggle to follow simple instructions,
      • Have a limited inventory of sounds, words and gestures,
      • Not interested in playing with others,

Should a 2 year old still be dribbling?

Drooling is perfectly normal in young children up to about 2 years of age . Drooling usually resolves completely by age 5. If this is not the case, you should consider seeking advice from your child’s general practice (GP).

Why is my 19 month old dripping so much?

he has a normal neck range of motion with no appreciable mass . He has copious clean drool from his mouth. It is normal for babies and toddlers to drool as part of their oral motor development as well as erupting new teeth.

      What is excess saliva symptom?

Other conditions. Drooling is usually caused by excess saliva in the mouth. Health conditions such as acid reflux and pregnancy can increase saliva production. Allergies, tumors, and infections above the neck, such as streptococcus, tonsil infection, and sinusitis, can all interfere with swallowing.

How long does it take a 2 year old to forget a mannequin?

Babies adjust quickly and in my experience it takes 1-3 nights for a baby to not have a dummy. I think the best way to get rid of a mannequin is to just do it. If we take it cold turkey, less confusion and less temptation to reintroduce it.

What to put on a mannequin to make it taste good?

Talk to your child’s pharmacist or doctor about getting a safe solution that makes moss taste bad. You can also try dunking it in something bitter or unappealing to children, such as lemon juice, lime juice, salt, or pepper.

Can a newborn sleep with a fictitious NHS?

It is possible using a dummy at the beginning of sleep also reduces the risk of SIDS. But the evidence is not strong, and not all experts agree that dummies should be promoted. If you are using a mannequin, do not start until breastfeeding is well established. This is usually when your baby is about 1 month old.

      9 month old Q&A0001

Even if the family is not the first child, the first weeks of a baby’s life still cause parents and relatives to tremble for the health and condition of the child. The baby is a month old, and there are already a lot of questions about him. Some have tried to “illuminate” in this article.

Why does a monthly baby sleep badly?

It is normal for infants to wake up frequently because they are mostly light sleepers. Deep sleep will come at a later age, but in the meantime, the child’s sleep is very sensitive. After such a periodic awakening, different children behave differently: one baby can fall asleep immediately, while the other cannot do without help and starts to cry. If the baby often has poor sleep, it may be due to the need to feed or pain in the tummy.

Most 1-month-old babies physiologically need to be fed at night — the baby is growing fast and lacks milk. A lactation crisis usually occurs at 3-4 weeks of age, so during this period you need to put the baby to the breast more often.

Abdominal pain very often occurs in monthly babies due to short-term spasms in the intestines (they are called intestinal colic). Colic happens due to the peculiarities of the baby’s digestion and this is also normal. To relieve pain, you can give the baby a gentle massage of the tummy: stroke with a warm hand in a clockwise direction. You can also warm a diaper on a battery (or an iron) and put it on the baby’s tummy, and then press it against you – the heat relieves spasms and after a short time the child will fall asleep calmly.

Other causes of sleep disturbance are more difficult to identify, but if you observe the child enough, you can understand: when he is overexcited before going to bed, and when he is afraid of something. In order for the baby to sleep well and soundly at night, you need to adhere to a certain regimen and do not try to put him down if he is not tired and does not want to sleep.

Why does a one month old baby drool?

      [adsense1]

This process is normal for a month old , because the active work of the salivary glands begins, and the child has not yet learned the swallowing reflex.

The salivary glands develop gradually, if in the first weeks of life they secrete very little fluid, then they gradually develop and the child needs to cope with this somehow.

The baby does not know how to swallow saliva and just lets it out.

By 4-5 months he will develop a swallowing reflex, and before that it is better to get bibs.

Why does a month old baby spit up?

      [adsense1]

Regurgitation is always observed during breastfeeding. The explanation for this is quite simple: the volume of the stomach in a month-old baby is very small, and the esophageal sphincter is underdeveloped. During feeding, along with food, air enters the esophagus, which then tries to escape.

The air will come out calmer if you take breaks during feeding and hold the baby upright for a while. After feeding the baby, you need to hold the tummy to you in an upright position for about 20 minutes, and put it on the flank in the crib so that the baby does not suffocate when spitting up. To reduce the amount of air entering the esophagus, during feeding, you should apply the baby to the breast in such a way that the mouth tightly wraps around the nipple.

Why does a one month old baby cry?

With the help of a crying child reports any of his desires or problems to , since he is not yet able to communicate otherwise. A baby may cry for a variety of reasons: discomfort (he is hot or cold), hunger, thirst, tiredness, something hurts, or the baby just wants to be hugged. He may have a bad dream or become overexcited. In the simplest cases, it is enough to take the baby in your arms, offer the breast and sing a lullaby.

      • The child is crying piercingly and for a long time – most likely, he is suffering from abdominal pain. Put a warm diaper on his tummy, press it to you – the colic will be released, and the baby will fall asleep soundly within 20-30 minutes.
      • The child cries before going to sleep . This may mean that he simply does not want to sleep. Then you need to take a walk or play with him so that he gets tired and falls asleep naturally. But perhaps the process of falling asleep is disturbed – give the child a soothing massage or bathe him.
      • The child cries while urinating . In boys, physiological phimosis is quite possible – this is when the glans penis does not open, which simply passes with time. Gently stretch the foreskin while bathing the baby and open as much as you can easily open. But do not break – everything has its time. Diaper rash in the anus and genital area is often the cause of crying in girls. Do not abuse diapers and carefully monitor hygiene.
      • Baby crying while feeding . In the process of sucking, pain in the mouth and in the ear increases, if everything is not in order there. Or the child’s nose is not breathing. The causes of pain in the oral cavity can be stomatitis, gingivitis, in the ear – otitis media. In this case, they need to be treated urgently.

      Why doesn’t a one-month-old baby poop?

      [adsense1]

Immediately after the birth of , the baby defecates almost after every feeding , but then a month old baby starts going to the toilet less often. Watch the baby: if nothing bothers him and he walks 1 time in 1-3 days, then there is no reason for concern.

It is especially not worth rushing to the doctor when breastfeeding: breast milk tends to be absorbed almost completely and “grows”, and soft feces obtained in a small amount do not stimulate emptying.

The volume of feces may increase when the baby is one month old, and the frequency of stools may decrease sharply. It is worth worrying only with a sharp transition and if the baby is clearly experiencing difficulties.

For formula-fed or formula-fed babies, infrequent stools may be a reason to see a doctor. You may need to change the mixture or give more water.

Why does a one month old baby stick out his tongue?

A healthy child may stick out his tongue simply to explore his abilities , and if no other suspicious symptoms are noticed, then there is no cause for concern. The reasons may be different.

For example, a child remembers the position of the tongue during sucking and sticks out the tongue when he wants to eat or drink. The baby can signal in this way that he needs his mother’s breast: mother’s milk not only nourishes, but also contains soothing substances that make the baby feel comfortable.

Sometimes the tongue is too big for the mouth and does not fit completely in the mouth. This problem usually resolves by itself by 6 months. Of course, if the tongue clearly looks too big or literally “falls out” of the mouth, this can be a serious condition and you should see a doctor as soon as possible.

There are serious diseases where protrusion of the tongue is one of the symptoms. However, it is not the main one, and other symptoms are very noticeable.

Why does a monthly baby grunt?

Most often it happens due to discomfort that the child feels. Perhaps he is hot, his clothes are crushing, or the hairs on the back of his head are prickling unpleasantly. In this case, you need to check how appropriately the baby is dressed, and what can prevent him from lying comfortably.

A month-old baby may also groan due to colic or flatulence , which often bother babies at this age. After the baby empties or releases gases, he quickly calms down. You can try to massage his tummy, but if the baby is obviously hard, you should show it to a gastroenterologist.

Sometimes the cause of groaning can still be a neurological problem and in this case also you can not do without the help of a doctor.

      1. Vision.
By the age of 3 months, the baby already fixes his eyes well and can look at objects and toys for a long time. Following objects, he traces them with his eyes just like an adult. The child can look from object to object, smoothly follow moving objects, incl. during its own movement. Follows objects not only with a glance, but also with a turn of the head.
Apparently, the baby already sees the world around him differently, considering it in the prone position.
The baby has a new fun – to look at his hands , play with them and follow their movements. Even at this age, children like to look at themselves in the mirror.
The first scheduled examination by an ophthalmologist is recommended at 2 months of age.

      2. Hearing.
The kid listens to sounds, turns his head towards the sound source, looks for the sound source with his eyes.
In addition to the recommendations described in the topic “How the baby develops. SECOND MONTH”, I can advise the next game. When the baby is playing with a rattle placed in the palm of his hand, turn on the music or sing a song, and, holding the baby’s fist, try to ring the toy to the rhythm of the music. For such a game, I can recommend, for example, the ELC Mini Maracas rattle toy from the Young Musicians series.

      3. Speech.
The kid is not only smiling, but also laughing. Some babies laugh very loudly, they like their first achievements.
The child begins to walk , uttering sounds similar to “aha”: ay, gyy, ay, yy. To the music, and sometimes just like that, the baby sings “aha” in a singsong voice, as if writing his own song.
Some children pronounce sounds unlike the usual infantile “aha”, for example, meow, ka. The baby can already express his dissatisfaction with something in his own way, for example, by pronouncing guttural: bvzh, gr.
Communicating with an adult and pronouncing sounds, the baby tries to imitate the intonation of an adult. Replies “aha” to “aha”.
By 3 months, profuse salivation begins, while awake, the baby not only gurgles, but also “drools”, inflates bubbles from saliva.

      4. Movements and fine motor skills.
The child actively moves his arms and legs. Some children move their arms very actively, hitting themselves in the face and causing trouble to themselves. If your baby is waving his arms around and preventing himself from falling asleep, try swaddling your baby before bed.
Holds head upright in adult’s arms . But when an adult suddenly changes the position of the body, for example, bending over, the baby’s neck muscles need support. With support in an upright position, the child can stand for a short time, leaning on his legs.
To strengthen the muscles of the back and neck, is useful and convenient to carry a child in a vertical position with his back to an adult , one adult’s hand on the baby’s stomach.
Baby learns to roll over from back to side. Some babies are already able to roll over from their back to their stomach by 3 months.
In the prone position, the baby leans on his hands and confidently holds his head, the legs are bent, but begin to straighten more and more. The kid can rise for a while, leaning first on his arms almost extended forward, and then on his forearms, bending his arms at the elbows more and more. But such exercises are still difficult for him. The child can be helped by periodically placing a roll of a diaper or towel under the chest.
The child tries to reach toys (when the baby lies on his stomach, he seems to be trying to crawl to the toy) , learns to shift the toy from one hand to the other , hold the bottle on his own. The baby tries to use the pacifier on his own, some babies really like this game – take out the pacifier and grab it with their mouth again. The child may try to catch the toy not only with his hands, but also with his mouth. For example, lying on your stomach, catch a tumbler swaying in front of your face.
By 3 months, the hands are already open or slightly compressed. Lying on his back and touching the toys suspended above him with his hands, he tries to grab them with his palm.
The baby is already confidently holding the rattles. Closer to 3 months, the baby may already be able to involuntarily rattle the toy several times.
While playing with the baby, dressing him, giving him a massage, begin to form an idea of the parts of the body , name: right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg … You can buy a rattle bracelet and alternately put it on the arms and legs of the child. True, not all babies like such rattles.
For the development of fine motor skills and the study of the world around the child needs toys and objects that are diverse to the touch. Toys and objects made of all kinds of fabrics: smooth silk, delicate velvet, rough material, ribbed velveteen. It is good to get 3 different balls: a regular smooth ball, a hedgehog ball (or let’s play with a rubber massage ball), a ball with dimples and convex figures.
To help your baby learn new movements and strengthen muscles, continue to do gymnastics regularly, do massage, incl. in the bathroom, exercise on the Bobas ball.

      5. Emotions and social development.
The child laughs and smiles not only in response to the smile of an adult , but also when they approach his bed, his reflection in the mirror, watching the toy he likes.
If the baby is alone, then with the appearance of an adult (mother or other family member who takes care of the child, whom the baby often sees) the revival complex is clearly manifested: the baby moves arms and legs, makes sounds, smiles.
The kid tries to study adults in a new way, follows not only the facial expression, but also the movement of the hands. While playing, the baby tries to catch and pull the adult by the clothes.
As mentioned above, babies like to look at themselves in the mirror. You can hang a mirror in the crib, on the side at eye level. Or let you look in the mirror regularly during wakefulness, when the baby is lying on the tummy. Hold your baby up to a large mirror while carrying your baby. The play mirror should be safe for the baby, preferably a special children’s plastic mirror.
The mirror helps the baby to study parts of the body, look at facial expressions, study the movement of the lips. Name the child parts of the body, describe the face (where are the eyes, nose, mouth).
The baby does not like to be alone, and at this age he may already insistently ask to take him with him , expresses his dissatisfaction with sounds. It’s time, if you haven’t done it before, to buy a baby chair. The chaise longue will allow the baby to be next to mom when she is busy with household chores and explore the world around her from new interesting angles.

Please note that the “achievements” of each child are individual, your child may start doing something sooner or later.

10 very disturbing signals in the development of the child

Each baby is unique and not like the others, the pace of his development may also be different. Some skills appear earlier, and some may be late. It is often difficult for young parents to understand whether their child is developing according to age.

“Don’t panic and don’t invent illnesses for your child!” – thanks to precisely such “soothing” advice, many children get an appointment with a specialist much later than they should. If you hear them too, but still feel that something is wrong, see a doctor! Listed below are ten signs that your child’s development may not be going the way it should. If any of them sound familiar, don’t listen to “good advice” and take action.

      1. The child is not gaining weight. Babies at different stages of their development may gain weight faster or slower. Sometimes this is influenced by additional factors, such as a cold or inflammation of the urinary tract, which can lead to the fact that the baby is slightly behind in weight. However, a sharp and prolonged inhibition of weight gain is already something else. Sudden loss of already gained weight requires special monitoring. Such situations require a broader diagnosis and the exclusion of serious violations
      2. The child constantly screams. It may happen that a completely normal developing child reacts by crying to discomfort. However, every healthy baby also has very long periods of restful wakefulness and sleep, and these should be significantly longer than the time for crying. If you have the impression that your baby is crying almost non-stop, don’t be fooled. There is a chance that the child is suffering from pain, such as infection or inflammation. Immediate consultation with a doctor is required.
      3. The child is not interested in the environment. Such behavior is often perceived as a manifestation of good manners and a calm character. Unfortunately, this approach often delays diagnosis and treatment. The child may be naturally calm, but he must still be interested in the environment. If you have the impression that contact with the child is difficult, that he is not interested in you, brothers and sisters, toys, contact a specialist. The cause can be autism, deafness, and many other disorders.
      4. A few months after birth, the baby does not focus on your face and toys. Of course, the development of your child does not have to be “textbook”. Some babies focus on faces and objects at three months, others only at four or five. However, if the situation does not change after the first six months of the baby’s life, it is no longer possible to talk about the individual pace of development, this is a symptom of a violation associated with visual defects.
      5. The child spit up very often. There are children who do not spit up at all, and there are those who spit up quite a lot. Both of them can be quite healthy. However, if the baby spits up several times immediately after eating, trust the experts.
      6. The child walks on tiptoe. Walking on tiptoe is completely normal for a new walking child. But if after a few months nothing changes, this may be a signal of a violation of the Achilles tendon or tissues. It is worth consulting with a neurologist.
      7. At the age of one and a half, the child does not respond to the name. Already a one-year-old child should automatically turn his head after someone says his name. If he doesn’t, it’s always a cause for concern. The most common causes of such an anomaly are hearing problems or autism.
      8. The child does not speak. A 2 year old needs to talk, and don’t be fooled by stories like “niece’s cousin started talking at age 4 and boys generally start talking later”. Another thing is the number of words in the child’s vocabulary. There are two-year-olds who only speak a few words but also use a lot of gestures. Such a child will quickly catch up in the coming months. Another thing is when a child does not speak at all and does not even know gestures
      9. A three-year-old child has poor motor coordination. Some children are said to be “clumsy” if they are markedly different from their peers in motor development. Don’t let this label be attached to your child. The backlog in this area requires rehabilitation. If your three-year-old still stumbles, has difficulty climbing stairs, still drools and slurs, see a neurologist and ophthalmologist. These symptoms may indicate vision problems or problems with muscle tone.
      10. A three-year-old child has cognitive problems. Properly developing three-year-olds love to play in a group, draw, play with toys, and already know how to focus on one operation for several minutes. If you see that your child’s cognitive development is going differently, respond.

Planning A Baby Shower For Daddy: Our Top Tips

Do you think baby showers are reserved for moms-to-be?

Think again! Dadchelor parties are all the rage, and this guide will show you how to throw the perfect baby shower for dad.

Whether it’s for your best friend or a relative, this article lists tons of ideas for activities, themes, and catering to create an event the new dad will remember forever. It doesn’t have to be an expensive affair either, what matters the most is the thought you put into the event, and that the father-to-be is able to celebrate this big step surrounded by people who love him.

If you enjoyed this article about baby shower ideas, why not give preparing for fatherhood and being a first time dad a read?

Why Have A Dad’s Baby Shower?

A dad’s baby shower (or Dadchelor Party, if you will) is essentially the same event you would throw for a woman having a baby. It is a celebration of the new child about to arrive involving friends and family, food and drinks, and gifts!

While these events have traditionally been held for women (often with dads not even attending due to a ‘no men’ rule!), there has been a rise in the phenomenon of dad baby showers in the last few years. Jakc and Jill baby showers have also grown in popularity. This is a baby shower enjoyed and shared by both parents, and both parents’ friends and families. And why not? It shouldn’t be up to moms to receive all the gifts, celebrate and make all the nursery choices! Men should be equally involved in the parenting process. Dads-to-be are about to become a parent too, and that should be a cause for celebration.

Think of a baby shower as a way of supporting a friend who is about to enter parenthood, of celebrating the change (pun intended) they are about to undergo. It could be a good opportunity for experienced parents to offer advice and help, too! The new dad will love being surrounded by friends and family at this special time.

Last but not least, a baby shower is a great opportunity to relax and celebrate with friends before the new daddy is spending a lot more time changing diapers!

    Themes

While a theme is not compulsory for a baby shower, here are some ideas of the roads you could explore to organize the most fun Dadchelor Party!

Sports themed. Make your event an Olympic Games-style competition featuring competitive games and medals.

Baby themed. An obvious one here, but this theme could involve the guests dressing up, drinking out of bottles, and plenty of baby-themed games. You could even enforce that adults wear diapers, for example, either on top of their clothes or on their heads!

B themed. B is for baby, BBQ, beers, and bowling! You could encourage guests to dress up as something beginning with the letter B, too.

Your party does not have to have a theme. Some people choose a weekend away with a group of close friends such as skiing or a city break. Otherwise, you could turn the Dadchelor Party into a usual group activity (golfing, book club, etc), but make it festive and bring a gift!

    Party Games

There are plenty of fun baby shower games for daddy to play, as well as lots of baby shower games for mommy and daddy to enjoy together. Below are just a few ideas of baby shower activities you could organize to entertain the guests at your party. If you are having an Olympic Games-style event as described above, don’t forget to prepare medals, a podium, or a trophy!

To begin with, a classic: baby gambling. Give each of your guests one dollar that they can gamble on what they think will be the baby’s weight, birth date, or gender for example. After the birth, give the winner the pot!

Baby bottle chug. Fill baby bottles with the beverage of your choice (alcoholic or not!) and have a competition to see who can drink it the fastest.

Don’t say “baby”. This game consists of outlawing certain obvious words such as “baby” and giving dares out to anyone who uses them.

Baby speed games. This will favor the experienced parents in the crowd, test everyone to see who can prepare a bottle or change a diaper the fastest.

Changing diapers in the dark. Ask each guest to change a doll’s diaper as fast as possible in a dark room to replicate changing a baby in the middle of the night, then laugh when you observe the results! For guests who are not parents, it could be useful to show a tutorial on how to change a diaper first.

Stroller obstacle course. Line up a backyard with chairs, balls, and other obstacles and get two participants to race strollers with dolls in them.

Kids TV quiz. Prepare some questions about popular kids TV shows to test the parents-to-be’s knowledge!

    Fun Questions To Ask Dad

The conversation at a baby shower has mostly one topic: babies. Here are some baby shower questions for daddy at the Dadchelor Party. Which of these questions to ask daddy for baby shower game ideas is your favorite?

Questions About His Family And The Baby

Do you know the gender yet?

Have you thought of a name?

What were you almost called when you were born?

What are you most looking forward to when you have a child?

What will you miss the most?

    Baby Trivia For Parents

Question: Approximately how much does it cost to raise a child from birth to its 17th birthday in America?

    Answer: About 285,000 USD.

Question: True or false? Babies are born without kneecaps.

Answer: It’s true, they originally have cartilage on their knee that then develops into a bone.

Question: How big is a newborn baby’s head compared to the rest of its body?

    Answer: About 1/4.

Question: How far can a newborn baby see?

Answer: Only about 8 to 14 inches.

    Food And Drink

Here are some suggestions of food and drinks to serve at a Dadchelor Party.

Privilege food that will be easy to access and eat for a lot of people, depending on how large your event is. Think finger foods, a buffet of cold sandwiches and pies or snacks.

If the weather is sunny and you have a backyard, a barbecue is always a good idea! This tends to be a popular option for men organizing parties. Also, it involves little prep and cooking!

Drinks-wise, make sure to provide non-alcoholic options such as virgin cocktails or kombucha. For alcohol, beers and themed cocktails are a good option! As a fun touch, you could serve drinks in baby bottles.

    Gift Ideas

Wondering what to gift the new dads in your life at their Dadchelor Party? Below are some baby shower gifts for daddy-to-be.

A dad survival kit. This could be a bag or hamper containing anything you think might help your friend through the early days of fatherhood: energy drinks, aspirin tablets, a change of clothes, coffee, diapers… This gift is very personal and can be customized according to taste. A daddy survival kit for baby shower gifts is always a great idea!

Parenting books. Dads can never have enough.

Dad-specific baby products, such as a stroller adapted to a man’s height or a “masculine” diaper bag.

A subscription to a streaming site or some DVDs for the nights dads will be spending trying to get the baby back to sleep.

Matching t-shirts for the new dad and his baby. This can be a cute, customizable gift!

    Etymology[edit]

The term shower is often assumed to mean that the expectant mother is “showered” with gifts. A related custom, called a bridal shower, may have derived its name from the custom in the 19th century for the presents to be put inside a parasol, which when opened would “shower” the bride-to-be with gifts. [1] alternatively the term possibly denotes a “first showing” of the new baby to the wider family and circle of friends, although the baby shower is usually held before the birth of the baby.

    Description[edit]

Cake and finger foods are often served at baby showers.

Traditionally, baby showers are given only for the family’s first child, and only women are invited, [2] though this has changed in recent years, now allowing showers being split up for different audiences: workplace, mixed-sex, etc. [3] Activities at baby showers include gift-giving and playing themed games.

Baby shower games vary, sometimes including standard games such as bingo, and sometimes being pregnancy-themed, such as “guess the mother’s measurements” or “guess the baby”. These games help the close friends attend the shower bond with the mother and enable the new family to say thanks ahead of time, figuring out who is willing and able to help them with the challenges of bringing up.

According to etiquette authority Miss Manners, because the party centers on gift-giving, [4] the baby shower is typically arranged and hosted by a close friend rather than a member of the family, since it is considered improper for to beg for gifts on behalf of their members. [5] However, this custom varies by culture or region and in some it is expected and customary for a close female family member to host the baby shower, often the baby’s maternal grandmother. [6]

When a baby shower is held after a baby’s birth, an invitation to attend the shower may be combined with a baby announcement. In the US, if a baby shower does not happen before the arrival of the baby, a sip-and-see party or other similar events can be organized after the birth.

Guests bring small gifts for the expectant mother. Typical gifts related to babies include diapers, blankets, baby bottles, clothes, and toys. It is common to open gifts during the party; sometimes the host will make a game of opening gifts.

    Family bonding[edit]

The baby shower is a family’s first opportunity to gather people together to help play a part in their child’s life. The new parents may wish to call on people to assist in the upbringing of their child, and help educate the child over time. People around the family, who care for them, want to be involved in the child’s life, and a baby shower presents an opportunity for them to give gifts and be of help, showing their love for the family. [7] If it happens before the birth, it allows the new family to thank everyone before the stress of a new baby and lack of sleep begins.

    History[edit]

    Baby shower shortbread biscuits

The term “baby shower” is relatively new, but the celebrations and rituals associated with pregnancy and childbirth are both ancient and enduring. [8]

    Ancient Egypt
In ancient Egypt, rituals relating to the birth of a child took place after the event itself. Quite unlike modern baby showers, this involved the mother and the child being separated to “contain and eliminate the pollution of birth” – this may have included visiting local temples or shrines. After this, there may also have been household rituals that took place, but the specifics have been found hard to study as these are such female-centered events. [8]
    Ancient India
In India, a pregnancy ritual has been followed since the vedic ages: an event called seemantha, [ citation needed ] held in the 7th or 8th month. The mother-to-be is showered with dry fruits, sweets and other gifts that help the baby’s growth. A musical event to please the baby’s ears is the highlight of the ritual, as it was common knowledge that the baby’s ears would start functioning within the womb. The ritual prays for a healthy baby and mother, as well as a happy delivery and motherhood.
    Ancient Greece
The ancient Greeks also celebrated pregnancy after the birth, with a shout ( oloyge ) after the labor has ended, to indicate that “peace had arrived”. Five to seven days later, there is a ceremony called Amphidromia , to indicate that the baby had integrated into the household. In wealthy families, the public decate ceremony, after ten days, indicated the mother’s return to society. (The ten-day period is still observed in modern-day Iran.) [8]
    Medieval Europe
Due to the likelihood a mother would die in childbirth, this time was recognized as having a great risk of spiritual danger in addition to the risk of physical danger. Priests would often visit women during labor so they could confess their sins. After the birth, usually on the same day, a baptism ceremony would take place for the baby. In this ceremony, the godparents would give gifts to the child, including a pair of silver spoons. [8]
    Renaissance Europe
Pregnancies at this time were celebrated with many different kinds of birth gifts: functional items, like wooden trays and bowls, as well as paintings, sculptures, and food. Childbirth was seen as almost mystical, and mothers-to-be were often surrounded with references to the Annunciation by way of encouragement and celebration. [8]
    Victorian Britain and North America
Superstitions sometimes led to speculation that a woman might be pregnant, such as two teaspoons being accidentally placed together on a saucer. Gifts were usually hand-made, but the grandmother would give silver, such as a spoon, mug, or porringer. [8] In Britain, the manners of the upper-class (and, later, middle-class) required pregnancy to be treated with discretion: the declining of social invitations was often the only hint given. After the birth, a monthly nurse would be engaged, whose duties included regulating visitors. When the nanny took over, the mother began to resume normal domestic life, and the resumption of the weekly ‘at home’ afternoon tea an opportunity for female friends to visit. The Christening – usually held when the child was between 8-12 weeks old – was an important social event for the family, godparents and friends.
    Modern North America
The modern baby shower in America started in the late 1940s and the 1950s, as post-war women were expecting the Baby Boom generation. As in earlier eras, when young women married and were provided with trousseau, the shower served the function of providing the mother and her home with useful material goods. [8]

While continuing the traditions from the 1950s, modern technology has altered the form a baby shower takes: games can include identifying baby parts on a sonogram. Moreover, although traditional baby showers were female-exclusive, mixed-sex showers have increased in frequency. [8]

    In different countries[edit]

    Diaper cake

Baby showers and other social events to celebrate an impending or recent birth are popular around the world. They are often women-only social gatherings.

    • In Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States, baby showers are a common tradition.
    • In Brazil, a party called “chá de bebê” (baby tea) is offered before birth.
    • In Bulgaria, as a superstition, no baby gifts are given to the family before the baby’s birth. However, family and friends give or send unsolicited gifts to the newborn baby, even if some babies are kept from the public for the first 40 days to prevent early infections.
    • In Chinese tradition a baby shower, manyue (满月), is held one month after the baby is born.
    • In Hmong culture, a baby shower is called “Puv Hli”, and is held one month after the baby is born. A ceremony would be hosted by the paternal grandparents or the father to welcome the baby to the family by tying the baby’s wrist with white yarn and/or strings.
    • In Armenia, a baby shower is called “qarasunq” (քառասունք) and is celebrated 40 days after the birth. It is a mixed party for all relatives and friends. Guests usually bring gifts for the baby or parents.
    • In Iran, a baby shower (Persian:حمام زایمان) is also called a “sismooni party” (Persian:جشن سیسمونی). It is celebrated 1–3 months before the baby’s birth. Family and close friends give gifts intended for the baby such as a cot, toys, and baby clothes.
    • In Costa Rica, a baby shower party is called té de canastilla (“basket tea”), and multiple events are held for a single pregnancy for the family, co-workers, and friends.
    • In Mongolia, a baby shower is called “huuhdyn ugaalga”.
    • In Hindu tradition, they are called by different names depending on the family’s community.
      • In northern India it is known as godbharaai (filled lap) , in the Punjab region, it is also known as ” reet “. in Odisha it is called saadhroshi . In West Bengal, in many places a party named “sadh” (সাধ) or “sadhbhokkhon” (সাধভক্ষণ) is observed on the seventh month of pregnancy. After this, the woman resides in her father’s house instead of her husband’s until the birth.
      • In southern India, in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh it is called seemantham , valaikaapu or poochoottal . The expecting mother wears bangles and is adorned with flowers.
      • In Karnataka it is called seemanta (ಸೀಮಂತ) or kubasa (ಕುಬಸ). It is held when the woman is in her 5th, 7th, or 9th month of pregnancy.
      • In coastal Karnataka, especially in Tulunadu (Tulu speaking region), the ceremony is also known as “baayake” (‘ಬಾಯಕೆ’). Baayake in Tulu means desire. It is popularly considered that pregnant women crave fruits and eatables during the pregnancy period; and the was ceremony designed in the olden days to fulfill the desire or food cravings of the mother-to-be.
      • Although these might be celebrated together, they are very different: seemantham is a religious ceremony, while valaikappu and poochoottal are purely social events much like Western baby showers. In a valaikappu or poochoottal , music is played and the expectant mother is decked in traditional attire with many flowers and garlands made of jasmine or mogra. A swing is decorated with flowers of her choice, which she uses to sit and swing. At times, symbolic cut-outs of moons and stars are put up. The elderly ladies from the household and community shower blessings on the expectant mother and gifts are given to her.
      • In Gujarat, it is known as seemant or kholo bharyo , a religious ritual for most Gujarati Hindus during the 5th or 7th month of pregnancy, usually only for the first child. The expectant mother can only go to her father’s house for delivery after her seemant . They offer special prayer and food to the goddess “Randal, the wife of the Sun”.
      • In Jain tradition, the baby shower ceremony is often called as “Shreemant”. The expectant mother can go to her father’s house in the 5th month of pregnancy and has to come back before the baby shower ceremony. After the ceremony, the expectant mother cannot go back to her father’s house. The ceremony is only performed on Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday of the seventh or ninth month of pregnancy. During the ceremony one of the practice is that the younger brother-in-law of the expectant mother dips his hands in Kumkuma water and slaps the expectant mother seven times on her cheeks and then the expectant mother slaps her younger brother-in-law seven times on his cheeks.
      • In Kerala it is known as pulikudi or vayattu pongala’ , and is practiced predominantly in the Nair community, though its popularity has spread to other Hindu sects over the years. On an auspicious day, after being massaged with homemade ayurvedic oil the woman has a customary bath with the help of the elderly women in the family. After this, the family deity is worshipped, invoking all the paradevatas (family deities) and a concoction of herbal medicines prepared traditionally, is given to the woman. She is dressed in new clothes and jewelery used for such occasions. A big difference in the western concept of baby shower and Hindu tradition is that the Hindu ceremony is a religious ceremony to pray for the baby’s well-being. In most conservative families, gifts are bought for the mother-to-be but not the baby. The baby is showered with gifts only after birth.
    • In the Islamic tradition of Aqiqah, an animal (such as a sheep) is slaughtered anytime after the birth, and the meat is distributed among relatives and the poor. The practice is considered sunnah and is not done universally. [9] [10]
    • In South Africa, a baby shower is called a stork party (named after the folk myth that a white stork delivers babies), and typically takes place during the mother’s 6th month. Stork parties, usually not attended by men and often organized as a surprise for the mother, involve silliness such as dressing up, and mothers receive gifts of baby supplies.
    • In Nepal a baby shower is known as “dahi chiura khuwaune”. The mother-to-be is given gifts from her elders and a meal is cooked for her according to her preferences. The pregnant mother is often invited by her relatives to eat meals with them. Pasni is a traditional celebration that often marks a baby boy’s 6th month or a baby girl’s fifth month, marking the transition to a diet higher in carbohydrates and allowing guests to bestow blessings, and money and other gifts.
    • In Guatemala, only women attend this event. Middle-class women usually celebrate more than one baby shower (one with close friends, co-workers, family, etc.).
    • In Russia, and Commonwealth of Independent States, there are no baby showers, though some of the younger generation are starting to adopt the custom.
    • In Egypt a baby shower is known as ” Sebouh ” (سبوع) (sebouh means week) which is usually celebrated one week after birth hence its name. This is usually celebrated with a DJ, much decoration, a food and candy buffet, activities and games.
    • In Puerto Rico, a baby shower is celebrated anytime after other family members are made aware of the pregnancy, but typically during the last trimester. The grandmother, sisters, or friends of the pregnant mother organize the celebration and invite other relatives and friends. It is not common for men to attend baby showers. The “bendicion” (blessing) is bestowed money and other gifts.

    Baby showers for fathers[edit]

Some baby showers are directed at fathers. These may be more oriented towards drinking beer, watching sports, fishing, or playing video games. [11] [12] The primary nature of these gifts is diapers and/or diaper-related items. [13] [14] The organization of the diaper party is typically done by the friends of the father-to-be as a way of helping to prepare for the coming child. These parties may be held at local pubs/bars, a friend’s house, or the soon-to-be grandfather’s house. [13] [15] In the United Kingdom, this is called wetting the baby’s head , and is generally more common than baby showers. However, with the growth of American cultural influence- accelerated through celebrities via social media sites like Instagram, baby shower decorations are becoming more common in the United Kingdom. [16] Wetting the baby’s head is traditionally when the father celebrates the birth by having a few drinks and getting drunk with a group of friends.

There has been some controversy over these, with Judith Martin calling them a “monstrous imposition”, [14] although she was referring to the attitude of demanding gifts and not necessarily the male version of a baby shower.

In Hungary, such an event is called Milking party held by tradition in favor of the mother to be blessed with breast milk for the newborn. Practically it is the last day-off of the father for some time as he is expected to stay home to help. No similar domestic custom exists for mothers, such as a baby shower. Gifts for the baby are given on the first visit to his/her home. This, due to health concerns, happens at the appropriate and suitable time for each counterpart.

    Names for events[edit]

A buffet at a baby shower featuring an appropriately themed cake.

    • Diaper shower refers to a small-scale baby shower, generally for subsequent children, when the parents don’t need as many baby supplies. [17]
    • Grandma’s shower refers to a shower at which people bring items for the grandparents to keep at their house, such as a collapsible crib and a changing pad. [18]
    • Sprinkles are small showers for a subsequent child, especially a child who is of a different gender than the previous offspring. [19]
    • A sip and see party is a celebration usually planned by the new parents, so that friends and family can sip on refreshments and meet the new baby.

Our society is becoming more and more inclusive, and we are seeing the same in the world of births. Basically, these parties are just for mom, but gradually couples start to think that both can be the protagonists of the party, the baby belongs to both of them! Although, of course, if you want to be the absolute main character, then stop reading … But co-execution may have advantages.

As women take control of childbirth, their partners also have the opportunity to be more involved in the process of childbirth. The traditional baby shower isn’t completely sold out yet, but it’s certainly not for everyone. For future couples who prefer a modern approach to celebrating their baby. Student Baby Shower might be the perfect solution.

    Mom doesn’t feel so pregnant

There are several reasons why sharing a baby shower might be better for you and style of your partner. First, take the pressure off Mom . Coordinating a baby shower is stressful, and also many moms don’t want to open presents while everyone is watching… Often, pregnant moms don’t like the idea of everyone looking at them in their seventh month of pregnancy and struggle with back pain without apologizing, heartburn and flatulence (thank you baby).

Mixed baby shower is two parties who enjoy this attention, both father and mother. Even if the mother gives birth to a child, she will be able to share this role with the father, who is also important to the whole process. before, during and after!

Parents can talk to each other

Another great reason to share a baby shower is to let new dads talk to veteran dads. This is a great way to expect dads to connect with experienced dads who can answer openly honest questions candidly. We often hear male partners say they have questions but don’t know who to ask. Finding a mentor friend from your parents is a great option.

    Social life

The last but not least reason is an alliance with the people. This is a great way to bring everyone involved in your social life together. Let meet. Let them make connections. The more a close-knit team is in the city (not a single stranger should be heard in one-time conversations), the easier life will be for you! You would be surprised… If you decide to plan a shared baby shower.

    Cortisol in saliva by HPLC-MS

    print version

    Biomaterial

For this study, the laboratory accepts the following biomaterial:

    • Saliva

    Preparation for the study

Preparation conditions are determined by the attending physician.

It is recommended to take biomaterial:

    • within 48 hours before the study, in agreement with the attending physician, exclude the use of estrogens, androgens;
    • within 24 hours before the study, exclude physical and emotional overstrain;
    • children under the age of 1 do not eat for 30-40 minutes before the study;
    • children aged 1 to 5 do not eat for 2-3 hours before the study;
    • children over 5 years of age and adults do not eat within 8 hours before the study;
    • the use of non-carbonated water is allowed;
    • do not smoke within 3 hours before the study;
    • rinsing the mouth with boiled water before taking the biomaterial.

Collect at least 1.0 ml of saliva in an Eppendorf tube without vehicle. It is forbidden to add cotton wool or bandage to the test tube.

Cortisol is one of the main hormones of the adrenal cortex. Regulates carbohydrate, protein, fat metabolism. The secretion of cortisol is subject to a circadian rhythm. Cortisol levels are highest in the morning hours from 6:00 am to 8:00 am. After waking up, the level drops. During the day, there are periods of a slight increase, which are due to food intake, physical activity. Secretion decreases in the late evening hours and continues to decrease during the first hours of sleep, after which cortisol levels begin to rise. The dynamics of cortisol levels can vary significantly in the same person depending on stress, surgery, trauma, starvation. An increase in cortisol levels is noted in diseases of the central nervous system, Cushing’s syndrome, chronic renal failure, and alcoholism.

The determination of salivary cortisol reflects the level of free cortisol that is not bound to proteins. Free cortisol has biological activity. The level of cortisol in saliva reflects the concentration of free cortisol in the blood.

The study of the concentration of cortisol in saliva is an important diagnostic test in the diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome, in which the daily rhythm of cortisol secretion is disturbed and its level does not decrease by 23. 00-0.00 am, remains high at midnight in sleeping people. The content of cortisol in saliva does not depend on the amount of saliva and is stable for several days.

Indications for the determination of cortisol in saliva

    • Diagnosis of hypercortisolism (Itsenko-Cushing’s syndrome)
    • Young people with osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, rapid weight gain
    • Menstrual disorders, infertility

Formally, our patients are children from 0 to 16 years old. But in practice – until the age when permanent teeth completely replace milk teeth. This happens at 11 or 12 years of age. Our youngest patient is a 2 week old toddler. Ask, what does such a baby have to do with dentistry? We answer: the only reason for such babies to go to the dentist is a short hyoid frenulum.

At an older age, we work mainly with milk teeth. We see permanent teeth only when it is necessary to seal fissures (we will talk about this a little later) or, in extreme cases, when it is necessary to treat medium caries, but not deeper.

But a teenager of 11-12 years old is, in fact, still a child, you object. And to some extent you will be right. That is why we have an adolescent therapist for such patients. It is he who is engaged in the formed permanent teeth.

Baby tooth: let’s get to know each other better!

Indeed, milk teeth have some anatomical features that every parent should be aware of.

First, children’s teeth have roots (and sometimes they are longer than the roots of permanent teeth) and nerves. For some dads and moms, this often becomes a real discovery.

Secondly, most of the crown of a milk tooth is occupied by the pulp. And since the pulp horn comes too close to the proximal areas (that is, those areas that are in contact with the neighboring teeth of their row), even medium caries reaches the pulp very quickly, and pulpitis develops. At the same time, pain in children’s caries occurs mainly with direct contact of the diseased tooth with food. Spontaneous pains are extremely rare – only in the case of already running pulpitis.

Now let’s briefly talk about the eruption of milk teeth and their change to permanent ones. The first milk teeth appear at about 7-8 months, and by the age of 2.5 a small person should already have a “full set” – this is 20 milk teeth. Moreover, if up to 2.5-3 years there is a short period of stabilization, then the gradual resorption of the roots of milk teeth begins. By the age of 7, there is a change of central teeth – incisors. At the age of 9-10, the chewing group changes. But the “long-livers” fangs can stand up to 11-12 years. It is important to note that these are approximate terms for eruption and change of teeth. And today they are quite strongly shifted, mostly to the earlier side.

Each age has its own dental “surprises”

If adults have a similar set of dental diagnoses and complications throughout their lives, then in children each age period has its own characteristics. So, what should you be prepared for…

The main appeal in infancy is a short frenulum of the tongue. Most often, this problem is detected by district pediatricians who observe the baby in the first year of life.

What to look for: if the baby does not take or suckle the breast well, does not grasp the nipple or nipple correctly, gets tired quickly, cries, does not eat enough, loses weight, a short frenulum may be one of the reasons.

Solution. This problem is easily and in a few seconds corrected by cutting the frenulum of the tongue. At the age of 3-5 months, this does not even require anesthesia, since the operation is absolutely painless and bloodless, because the mucosa is very thin and there are no complex strands.

Tip. If the diagnosis is made, do not delay the operation so that it really goes quickly and painlessly.

As we said, it is from 6-7 months that the first milk teeth appear, and by the age of two, all teeth should erupt.

Age after 1 year becomes critical at this stage. It is during this period that the first caries appears, and after it – quite rapidly – pulpitis. What are the causes of these diseases at such an early age?

Reason #1. Night feeding. Just imagine: your child drank breast milk at night (and it is very sweet), kefir, compote or juice. The remnants of food or drinks literally “stick around” the teeth, and mainly flow to the upper teeth from the side on which the child sleeps (which is why we treat the upper teeth much more often than the lower ones). At night, the secretion of saliva is reduced, it is practically not produced, just like in adults.

An ideal environment is created for the development and reproduction of bacteria, which begin to gradually destroy the tooth enamel, which leads to the so-called caries in the stain stage. And indeed, if you look closely, white spots are visible on the teeth. Then the tooth itself begins to crumble. Caries rapidly reaches the pulp …

This disease even received the honorary title – “bottle caries”. However, the name of this disease is very conditional, and the word “bottle” should not mislead parents. That is, the cause of its occurrence can be both breastfeeding and drinking juices and compotes from a bottle or from a spoon.

    BTW!
According to the localization of the “bottle caries”, doctors can determine on which side the baby is sleeping.

Reason #2. General somatic ailments that are most often inherent in premature babies and babies whose mothers suffered from toxicosis during pregnancy. With severe toxicosis, a woman experiences a violation in the phosphorus-calcium metabolism, which, in turn, leads to violations of the maturation of the enamel of milk teeth.

Reason #3. Lack or inadequate dental hygiene.

Solution. When caries occurs, the only way to treat can be only drilling of the affected tooth tissues and replacing them with filling material.

If we talk about the treatment of pulpitis of chewing teeth in children, then we remove the pulp from the crown (!) part, put a special medicine and close it with a filling. Only in 10-15% of cases, when the nerve is severely inflamed, it is necessary to remove it entirely, clean and flush the channels. This does not affect the rudiments of permanent teeth. Physiological processes proceed as they should: the roots gradually dissolve, the milk tooth falls out, and the permanent one takes its place.

The most difficult part is the treatment of the central upper teeth (incisors), as they take a long time to restore. First, we completely remove the nerve, fill the channels with a special material, and put a filling. Treatment of one tooth takes an average of 30-40 minutes. Now ready-made crowns facilitate the work. There are metal crowns (“3M” and “New Smile”) covered with enamel. They repeat the shape of the tooth, very durable. And for their installation, turning and casts are not needed.

BTW: Even a carious cavity “on contact” (that is, at the point of contact with an adjacent tooth) must be treated as pulpitis – that is, with amputation (removal) of the pulp from the coronal region.

The fact is that if only caries is treated and the infected pulp cavity is closed with a filling (and it is impossible to determine by eye whether it is infected or not), then the missed inflammatory process will rapidly begin to develop. And after 1-2 months, this tooth will again have to be treated, only this time – from pulpitis.

Tip. To maintain healthy teeth, it is necessary first of all to abandon night feeding. The only thing you can give your baby at night is plain water. And as practice shows, the children of those parents who heed our recommendations keep their teeth healthy for quite a long time.

Secondly, parents should know and remember that the appearance of the first tooth, that is, the age of 6-7 months, is the best time to start the obligatory daily brushing procedure. Today in any pharmacy you can buy special toothpastes for children from 0 to 3 years. A special brush is put on the finger, and the teeth are cleaned. The rules for brushing your teeth are very popularly explained in the instructions that come with the toothpaste. And we, for our part, are always happy to show and tell how this is done in practice. After cleaning, the remnants of the paste are carefully removed with a napkin or … eaten by the baby (and this is completely safe!). And you need to brush your teeth, like adults, 2 times a day – in the morning and in the evening.

Thirdly, teeth with a long “life span”, and these are primarily chewing teeth (they are also the most susceptible to caries), need to have preventive fissure sealing age 2 years old. It protects the chewing surfaces of the teeth from caries. First, we clean (ream) the tooth a little, and then cover it with a special compound that “seals” the tooth and protects it from caries.

And fourthly, starting from the age of 2, the child’s diet should contain solid food – carrots, apples, dryers, bagels. The fact is that the abundance of soft food does not stimulate the roots of milk teeth to resorption, and as a result, the permanent teeth come out second next to the milk teeth. Solid food also affects the formation of the correct bite. In addition, it mechanically cleans the teeth. And do not be afraid, healthy teeth will not break from this, since enamel is the hardest thing in the human body.

BTW: In many children, the rudiments of permanent fifth teeth are not formed at all. According to one theory, this happens just because in the diet of modern kids, soft food plays the “main violin”, and there is no solid food. Since there is nothing to chew – why teeth? , perhaps, can be called a period of physiological calm. But starting from the age of 5, the risk of caries increases again.

Reason. This process is physiologically determined: the jaw grows, the front teeth (incisors) move apart – the so-called diastemas appear. Because of this, the lateral, chewing, teeth “bunch”, that is, the distance between them decreases. Since they are too close to each other, it is difficult to clean them properly. There is a so-called “caries on the contacts”, that is, in those places where the teeth are in contact with each other. And as well as possible, this process is facilitated by the remnants of food stuck there.

BTW: The most common reason for visiting a pediatric dentist is caries, which quickly turns into pulpitis.

Solution. At this age, the doctor decides whether to treat or remove a tooth, depending on which tooth is affected and what is its “life span”. For example, incisors that fall out as early as 6-7 years old do not make sense to treat – such a tooth is removed. Chewing teeth that last up to about 10 years, or fangs that change at 11-12 years old, are worth fighting for.

Tip. The only way to avoid caries “on contacts” is to carefully clean out food debris, especially between chewing teeth where they come into contact with their neighbors.

This advice also applies to children whose teeth have had their teeth sealed at an earlier age as a preventive measure. Recall that a special composition can seal and protect only the chewing surfaces of the teeth, and the contact surfaces still remain in the “risk zone”.

At the age of 5-6 years, speech therapists often refer to the correction of the frenulum. If at an early age the bridle prevented sucking, now the child may begin to burr because of it, and does not pronounce some of the sounds. At this age, the frenulum is cut with a laser – it is painless and bloodless.

    Silver your tooth!

Yes, some clinics still offer such a method of caries “treatment” as “silvering”. And then the patients of these clinics come for retreatment. It is fair to say that “silvering” teeth is not a treatment at all. This technique is indeed still widespread, despite the fact that it is completely ineffective. Silver closes the caries that has begun, but does not cope, as promised, with the pathological process, which develops safely and is further aggravated under the “silver”. Teeth are stained and blackened. A few months after such a “therapy”, the children again go to the doctors, but with pulpitis (at best) or with black, decayed teeth that have to be removed.

Come visit us… as often as possible

So at what age should you start visiting the dentist, you ask. We answer…

Scheduled medical examinations start at the age of 1 year. This is due to the fact that now dental diseases are early and fast-flowing. The frequency of visits depends on the susceptibility to caries. If we have treated most of the teeth up to 2 years, then it is necessary to carry out professional examinations every 3-4 months. If the teeth remained healthy up to 2 years, then it is enough for these lucky ones to see a doctor once every six months. Some parents bring their children to the dentist once a year, but this is too rare: since the processes are fast, there is a risk of missing caries in the initial stage.

We not only monitor the current state of the teeth and “catch” caries at the initial stages of development, but also try to predict how the jaw will develop and teeth will form in the future.

Depending on the indication, professional examinations can also be combined with professional dental cleanings, such as AirFlow. The frequency of this procedure depends on how carefully the parents or the baby himself brushes his teeth. Someone needs professional cleaning once a month, someone – once every six months.

    Pediatric dentist – generalist

That’s right, because he is both a surgeon and a therapist. It is from the pediatric dentist that the overall dental health of a small patient depends.

But besides this, one of his tasks is to “catch” a child with a malocclusion and refer him to another doctor – an orthodontist. And, believe me, it is better to do this at 4 years old than at 14, when not his mother, but he will take his mother by the hand and say that he has “crooked teeth”. After all, malocclusion is much easier to fix on plates that are placed at the stage of milk teeth, and not on braces. In addition, it is much cheaper.

    Orthodontist: come on time

The smallest orthodontist’s patients are children aged 3 years who had their front teeth – incisors removed. In this case, the doctor will be able to replace the missing teeth with plates – then it will become more convenient for the child to chew, new teeth will come out correctly and the jaw will develop.

Malocclusion can be traced at the stage of mixed dentition, that is, approximately at the age of 5 years, especially when the permanent 6th teeth begin to erupt. Also, the reasons for the formation of malocclusion at this stage can be:

    • diastemas (gaps between teeth) or, conversely, crowding, which may appear when the jaw is preparing for a change of teeth;
    • anatomically small jaw where strong and large permanent teeth may not fit.

Only an orthodontist can correct an early bite. And, of course, the attending physician will always tell you when you need to look into the office of a colleague.

Does pediatric dentistry have its own specific features? What difficulties do you have to face?

The main and main feature is, first of all, work with small children. If it is sometimes difficult to “negotiate” with an adult, then with a baby you have to resort to all sorts of tricks and tricks. Very often we have to deal with “bribery” from parents who promise their child to buy “anything”, if only the baby would open his mouth and let the doctor treat his teeth. We are against it. The child needs to form the right motivation and, in the end, make visiting the dentist a pleasant (in the truest sense of the word) event. It is this task, in addition, of course, to the actual treatment, that we set ourselves as one of the most important and we are working in this direction, and very successfully.

Another peculiarity is the use of anesthesia in pediatric dentistry, since it is almost impossible to establish adequate communication with children under the age of 3, they simply do not have enough perseverance. The need for anesthesia is also due to the large volume of treatment. Unfortunately, today we see very young children – 1 year and 2-3 months old – with already numerous and neglected caries.
