Development of a child in the first days of life

Finally, a small, wonderful baby, whom you have been waiting for, has finally come into the world. He is still so unintelligent that he seems to have only two concerns: to eat and sleep, however, this is a serious delusion of most parents. In the very first month of its existence, the baby develops much more than in the rest of the years of life. Therefore, the first days of a child’s life after birth are quite important and full of certain difficulties.

After all, now he has abruptly switched from his usual environment to a new breathing and nutrition. A born baby, like all living beings, has a certain set of reflexes. If you touch the lips of the child with your finger, then he pulls them out, as he has already prepared to take food from the mother’s breast. At any loud sound, the child will be alert, frown, or, in general, scream. But the most important thing that should not be forgotten is that the child is already individual and has his own character.

Each period of a newborn’s life has a number of its own characteristics. For example, in the very first period of his life, up to about 10 days, the baby still does not hear well, as his body adapts to the new environment around him. Hearing develops gradually during the first year of a child’s life. Mom should help the baby develop this skill, constantly talk with him, although it seems that the baby does not understand, you can also turn on calm music quietly. An important thing in a child’s hearing development is a simple rattle. With its help, the child develops auditory skills, and the mother can observe such development. The hearing test is done with a clap – the child must close their eyes to this kind of sound.

As far as vision is concerned, the ability of a newborn to focus on anything is not developed in the first days. This skill can be developed in an infant with the help of the so-called mobile, which is attached to the baby’s crib. During waking hours, the child watches objects moving above him with interest – this, firstly, and secondly, thereby developing the skill of focusing his vision.

By the end of the first month, a newborn should have a certain list of skills. The first of these is a reaction to loud sounds, which is accompanied by a shudder or blinking of the baby. The second is the ability to keep an object in the field of view and follow it. The third is to raise and hold the head in a prone position for 10-25 seconds. Fourth – the baby already knows how to smile at all his relatives, but especially his mother. The fifth is the ability to make various kinds of sounds in response to the conversations of adults, in most cases it is a cooing. And the sixth, which can be attributed not so much to skills, but more to interesting facts – a few days after birth, a child can imitate the movements that he saw, for example, show his tongue or open his mouth.

As one of the Russian proverbs says: “It grows by leaps and bounds” – this also applies to children, especially newborns. Without having time to “blink his eyes”, the mother of a recently born child becomes the mother of a one-year-old baby, and the mother of a one-year-old becomes the mother of a schoolchild. Children grow up quickly and they need the attention and support of their loved ones, especially their mothers.

The first toy is necessary for the baby to develop hearing, motor skills, color and tactile (tactile) perception. Rattles, bath toys, teethers and other toys for children up to 1 year old .

21 tips for parents who don’t know how to survive a flight

It seems like only yesterday we were annoyed by other people’s children in the cabin – they constantly cry, make noise, kick your chair, and in general!

Then everything is in a blur… and now we ourselves are the parents of a baby who cannot be explained why he has to quietly look out the window for the entire five hours of the flight.

However, why only look out the window? Our colleagues from the Mel online publication will suggest a lot of other ways to survive a flight with a child without nervous breakdowns.

      0+: Baby on board

Babies under one year old are the easiest to fly with.

The pressure during takeoff and landing will help offset food or water—simply breastfeed, formula feed, or give your baby water from a pacifier bottle.

From six months healthy snacks like dried apples are also suitable. It saves, by the way, even better than lollipops – a life hack can be adopted by adults too.

Children under one year old usually sleep three times a day, not counting the night. So the chance that the child will fall asleep during the flight is quite large – especially if you adjust the flight time to the usual rest period.

But even if something went wrong and the child started acting up, there are at least a dozen simple ways to calm him down.

      Slingbuses

Until the age of one, a child flies without a seat and, as a rule, spends the entire flight in the arms of mom or dad. So slingobuses hanging around the parent’s neck can be great entertainment and keep the baby busy for a long time.

Wooden, juniper, silicone, equipped with a teether or bells – they can distract, soothe and help with teething.

And yes, don’t look at the name of this “gadget”: a sling is not an obligatory accessory for a sling bus. It’s just that initially they were created for those parents who practice wearing a child in a piece of fabric on themselves.

      Bottle rattle

You can, of course, use the usual plastic or wooden rattles (it doesn’t hurt to take them on a trip anyway) – but they are quite loud, and neighbors can be as unhappy with the sound of a rattle as they are with a crying baby.

But if you take a transparent plastic bottle from under the water and pour cereals (half or three quarters) into it, preferably bright (colored peas, lentils) – it will turn out quietly for others and bewitching for the baby.

      A toy from the package

Babies are like cats – they can play with anything.

A simple plastic bag with a bell or any toy inside (even a chocolate egg container or rustling napkins) will keep you interested for a long time. Just loosely inflate it and tie it.

You can endlessly crumple this toy in your hands, try to grab what’s inside, and the package rustles so interestingly!

All in all, all thirty-three pleasures for a child’s sensory development.

      Massage balls

Small rubber balls with spikes and pimples can be found in the pet toy department. We take 2-3 pieces with us and arrange a massage for the child without getting up from the chair. You can roll on the palms, arms, heels, legs.

Do not be surprised if the baby falls asleep after such a massage.

      Toy on a ribbon

Closer to the age of one, children love to drop everything. This is how they master the cause-and-effect relationships. That’s just lifting things from the floor in a confined space you will not like it.

What to do? We take the baby’s favorite toys, tie a long ribbon to them (we again have an association with cats, and you?). And the tape – to the armrest of the chair, your wrist or baby’s leg. Threw, pulled the tape – the toy is back in place.

Ideal for this game are mesh balls that change shape, or cat toys made of woven twigs with bells hidden inside.

      Soft book

Children under one year old are not interested in reading books. But crumpling, rustling the pages of a book is a completely different matter.

Now you can find a lot of options for such books for the little ones – from very simple to author’s, handmade, made to order.

Make sure that there are many pages and that they are all made of different fabrics and interspersed with different textures and textures – such a book will really keep a child busy for a long time.

      Magic Pouch

You will need a regular canvas or fabric pouch and various items that can be put into it.

Keys, cones, those same massage hedgehogs, wooden figurines, shreds of fabric, chestnuts, walnuts.

Remember that objects must be relatively large so that the child cannot put them in his mouth or nose.

Digging through this bag is fun. But there is a risk that you have to pick it all up from the floor. So the bag is suitable until 8-10 months, when the craving for throwing has not yet awakened.

Plasticine, dough for hands or squish

In general, everything that can be kneaded in your hands for a long time – it changes shape, you can dig your fingers into it, roll it over your palms and stretch it out to infinity.

The main thing when choosing is to focus on the fact that the material does not get dirty, does not leave marks and is safe for the child.

Well, the fact that the child no longer puts everything in his mouth.

      “Into the hole”

When toys and rattles are tired, willy-nilly, you will have to switch to active games. The good old children’s game “jumping on your knees” is a great option.

There are a great many tunes to it, ranging from the standard and well-known “Over bumps, over bumps …” and ending with various creative variations on the theme – google it.

Parents will only have to change adults and remember, as they say.

And yes, this game is great for toddlers too.

      1+: Beware Toddler

Parents of children who have just begun to walk, but still do not know how to speak properly, stick their noses everywhere and are not ready to play word games for a long time, will have the hardest time.

In addition to the ideas of games already proposed above, we have several more options for simple entertainment for children a little older than babies.

No one canceled trips around the cabin either. A couple of excursions to the toilet will help pass at least 15-20 minutes of flight.

      Finger games

Boil porridge like a white-sided magpie on the palm of your hand, bang your fists, knead your fingers under “This finger is the biggest, funniest and funniest”, master the exercise “fist-rib-palm” – there are a lot of options.

We take any children’s poems and come up with movements for them (or use what they came up with before us).

With one-year-old children, you will have to do all this together and even for them – and those who are older, as a rule, join the game with pleasure and repeat the movements after their parents.

      Activity books

A sophisticated version of soft books for babies.

Here, as a rule, you can and should unfasten zippers and buttons, master laces and fasteners, put various objects in pockets, attach something to Velcro, and so on.

      Books with windows

Such a cardboard book usually takes up quite a lot of space, but it’s worth it.

The book will save you many times on the road during the whole trip – children can endlessly play with such books even alone.

      Tablet or drawing board

You can, of course, get by with just a notebook and pencils – or you can remember the drawing boards from our childhood, the images from which are erased with a slight movement of the hand.

Now there are electronic analogues of such toys.

You can draw together, one by one, with fingers or a stylus, whichever you prefer.

      Painting with paints

Don’t worry, no chair will be damaged and your child’s hands will also be clean.

Just take a zip bag, or better a few – and put finger paints inside (they are thicker). We close the package and give it to the child.

You can now draw patterns inside the bag and mix colors.

      Magnetic construction set

It is enough to take 15-20 pieces with you and you can build houses, towers and other buildings on the folding table.

Only no small magnets and balls! A child can swallow them, and this is really dangerous.

      Books with stickers

Dressing up fairies and princesses, assembling a car, arranging furniture around the house – such an activity will captivate a child from 1.5-2 years old.

And for the little ones there are books with reusable stickers so that in case of a mistake everything can be quickly corrected.

Choose books with your child’s favorite characters so that he will definitely want to spend time in their company.

      3+: It’s time to play

      After three, the fun begins!

You can, of course, just give your child a tablet or smartphone, turn on cartoons or audio fairy tales – or you can offer to play.

Other than paper and pencils (well, or a drawing tablet), in most cases you will not need anything.

      Tic Tac Toe

Don’t forget to give in. Remember: the child only masters this game.

      Draw some more

Drawing together is great. You start – the child continues. Then you switch roles.

You can also offer to turn the circle into an infinite number of objects, and the squiggles into funny characters.

      Coloring pages

By the age of three, children, as a rule, already master coloring. So coloring with large drawings will be able to compete with the tablet. But on the condition that you will color together.

And, for example, “magic” pencils – double-sided, three-color (in one lead), etc. will help to interest the child. Or felt-tip pens that change colors when you swipe them over each other.

      Activity books

They have all sorts of tasks, from finding differences between pictures and mazes to finding objects in the picture.

One book is enough for a flight.

      Magnetic board games

There are a lot of variants of these games. But the meaning, as a rule, is the same – you need to build a path in a certain way in order to lead someone somewhere and not meet someone.
