What Does “Notice Period” Mean on a Job Application?
Written by: Nathan Brunner.
When job seekers resign from their current position, they are not relieved immediately. Instead, they have to serve a “notice period.”
The notice period is the number of days between your resignation and departure from your current company. Employers ask about your “notice period” on job applications to know how long you need to serve in your current organization before you can jump ship.
By asking this question, employers make sure that if you clear the interview process, you start working as soon as the notice period allows you to.
Recommendation: Find Jobs on Salarship.
What Is the Typical Notice Period?
Your employment contract usually specifies the details of your notice period. Typically, you will have a one-week notice period after submitting your resignation if you have worked as an employee for more than a month but less than two years.
You are entitled to an additional week’s notice for every continuous year between 2 and 12 years. At the same time, employers must provide at least a 12-week notice period for employees who have worked at the company for more than 12 years.
The length of notice may also vary based on your position in the company. For example, if you hold a highly significant role, you may need more time to train a candidate who will replace you.
Can My Notice Period Affect My Job Application?
If the job application mentions keywords like “work immediately” or “as soon as possible,” the recruiter might be reluctant to hire candidates with long notice periods as they expect to fill this position quickly.
However, a notice period of one or two weeks is usually not considered a deal-breaker. How much notice is tolerated by the employer depends on the position and profile of the candidate.
Why Is a Notice Period Important For Prospective Employers?
There are multiple reasons why your prospective employer might ask about your notice period:
They want to know your availability to ensure you can start the interview process on time.
There is a labor shortage, and they must fill the position ASAP.
They want to know how disposable you are. If can get replaced within a few hours, it indicates that you are not essential to the operation of your current company and that you perform low-complexity tasks.
Note that it is terrible practice for HR to ask about personal information, such as your current notice period. Ideally, HR should ask you to fill out your availability instead.
Why Is a Notice Period Import For Your Current Employers?
When you resign, the notice period allows your employer to prepare and find someone who can take over your role in the company. A notice provides your company sufficient time to process your resignation, create a job advertisement, examine applications, and interview candidates for the position. It also gives your employer a chance to delegate your tasks to your co-workers and plan for your absence, especially if your position is not yet filled by the time you leave.
Notice periods ensure a smooth transition of duties and responsibilities within your workplace. Furthermore, a notice period lets you maintain a positive relationship with your employer. That is because you may need their recommendations when you apply for future positions.
Final Words
When filling up a job application form, you might be asked about your current notice period. Typical notice periods that are not a deal-breaker on job applications are one week’s notice and two weeks’ notice. However, long notice periods might hurt your application for jobs that need to hire immediately.
Remember that knowing that you will soon be leaving your company does not permit you to act unprofessionally during your notice period. Instead, you should maintain a good working ethic and remain focused on your work. In addition, your continued willingness to help allows you to leave an excellent lasting impression on your employer and colleagues.

What is a notice period? | A Definitive Guide
What is a notice period?
Put simply, it’s the agreed amount of time you must continue to work after resigning from your job. Or, if you are asked to leave the company for whatever reason, this is the time that you are expected to continue to be employed, and crucially, paid for.
This time is known as the ‘notice period’. The more senior the role, or the longer your period of service, the longer this period may be. Standard notice is 30 days, if you are a Director, for example, it may be 3 months or more.
How long is my notice period?
So, what is your notice period? The length of your notice period should be detailed in your offer letter and/or contract of employment and/or your employee handbook (if you have one).
The notice period works both ways – whatever amount of time you have to give the employer, they have to give you unless something different is specified in writing. The minimum notice period, even if it’s not written down anywhere, is 1 week, as long as you have worked for a month. The notice period normally runs from the next day after you notify the company of your intention to leave your job. So, the answer to the question, “What is the notice period you need to give your current employer?” is the same number of weeks that they must give you.
Garden or Gardening Leave
After you have been asked to leave, your job has been made redundant or you have resigned from your role, you may be put on ‘garden leave’ or ‘gardening leave’ – this means you are still employed, and still entitled to all your contractual benefits, but don’t go into the office or carry out any further work.
Often, this will happen if you are leaving to join a competitor, for example, in case you take company information with you or contact existing clients, while still working for your existing company. It may be for security reasons or because your employer they don’t want to risk you not performing at your best. Whatever the reason, you should get full pay and benefits while you are on gardening leave – for your full notice period.
If you have company equipment, a mobile phone, a laptop, etc. your employer will often ask for these back – if you have a company car, they can’t, as it’s a benefit. (Technically so are the phone and laptop, so a discussion should be had if you really wish to keep them for your notice period – but a reasonable employee might surrender these if they aren’t needed anymore).
Payment in lieu of notice
If your employer wishes you to leave immediately, they can ask you to do so provided they pay you the full amount you would have received should you work your notice, plus any extras. ‘Pay in lieu of notice’ may be specified in your contract in which case they can ask you to leave immediately but they must still pay you in full.
This doesn’t mean you can be sacked with no disciplinary, all employment laws still apply, of course. If you resign, they can ask you to go immediately and pay you in lieu of your notice period. You will also receive any unused holiday entitlement as pay (note that this may also be deducted if you have used more than you have accrued).
Redundancy notice periods
This is a separate issue, and minimums do apply but they are more clearly defined if you are made redundant.
The statutory redundancy notice periods are:
At least one week’s notice if employed between one month and two years
One week’s notice for each year if employed between two and 12 years
12 weeks’ notice if employed for 12 years or more
Check your employment contract or employee handbook. Your employer can give you more than the statutory minimum, but they cannot give you less.
Acas (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) is a very useful public body of the UK Government – they have lots of employment advice on their website, or you can call them on 0300 123 1100 if you’d rather talk to someone.
Restrictive covenants
These are the ‘terms and conditions’ of you leaving the business. Your contract may well state that you cannot work in a similar field, or for one of the company’s competitors for a while – typically 6 months, but can be more. These are ‘restrictive covenants’. If you break them, the company could take you to court.
NOTE: You should seek advice from a legal representative if you are considering breaking any restrictive covenants.
Some would argue that a covenant can’t stop you from doing your stock in trade – if you’re a trained carpenter and you leave one job then it could be seen as unjust to stop you from working as a carpenter for a competitor – but, always best to get advice on legal matters, perhaps try Citizens Advice for free guidance, or seek out an employment law specialist.
My employer hasn’t given me enough notice
If your current employer should try to give you less notice than you believe you are entitled to, contact them informally in the first instance to try to resolve it, it might just be a genuine error or miscommunication along the way.
If the matter isn’t then resolved, perhaps use the company grievance procedure, if there is one. If this still does not resolve it then you may have to take it to an Employment Tribunal, again Citizens Advice or Acas are specialists in this sort of issue.
Indeed, if you are set on going to a tribunal you must go to Acas first to inform them of your decision. They can then offer the chance to settle the disagreement using their Early Conciliation service – if this doesn’t resolve it, then you can take legal action via Employment Tribunal.
What happens if I don’t give my employer enough notice?
The flip side of the coin, is you not giving enough notice to your employer, in which case they can take YOU to court.
Again, they should try and resolve it informally with you first, it may just be an error or miscalculation on your part or a disagreement over the actual notice period required. If it can’t be resolved and you leave without enough notice, they can take you to court for damages.
For example, they may have to hire someone to cover your role for the remainder of your notice period.
Can I shorten my notice period?
There are several possible ways to effectively reduce your notice period.
Find your perfect job
Keywords / Job Title

Replace abbreviations with the entire word
The first is to ask nicely. You can’t expect to be paid for 30 days’ notice if you only work 20, but your employer may be happy to oblige if you’re leaving on good terms.
Another way is to take holiday leave that you have accrued but not yet used; for example, by taking 5 days’ leave at the end of your notice period you will effectively be working a week less.
There are other ways to shorten your notice. If your employer has breached your employment contract, you can terminate your contract without notice. Or, if your employer gives notice of dismissal, you could leave at an earlier date by countering.
Can I challenge a garden leave request?
Garden leave sounds great – but it can be a real nuisance. You can’t go into the office and in fact, you can’t work anywhere until your notice period is completed and you leave the job. You can look for another job if you don’t have another one already. If you do have another job, then you need to just accept the garden leave and relax.
However, if you aren’t going to the competition, it’s worth asking your employer to waive the gardening leave. After all, there’s not much damage you could do to the business under the circumstances.
But, if you ARE joining a competitor, and refuse to go on garden leave and start with the new company, your current employer could sue you for damages.
Unless it’s stated in your contract of employment, your employer cannot legally require you to go on garden leave. If they do insist, you can claim breach of contract and that you have therefore been a victim of ‘constructive dismissal’. This is where an employee becomes entitled to resign after a serious breach of contract by the employer. The employee considers themselves ‘dismissed’ and can now take the employer to court or tribunal.
Examples of contract breaches are:
A salary reduction or threatening one
Alleged poor performance, with no evidence
‘Unreasonable’ disciplinary proceedings
Changing the nature of your job completely
Changing working hours without approval
Harassment at work
Bullying at work
Overwork or work-related stress that hasn’t been suitably addressed by the employer
Not making reasonable adjustments for workers with disabilities
How much notice should I give during my probationary period?
If you wish to hand in your resignation during a probation period then the notice period is often less, it may be just one day. Again, this should be covered in your contract, if not, you could ask the HR team or your line manager, if you’re going to resign regardless.
If not, then the statutory period could be considered just one week. If you’re leaving on good terms, or wish to, it’s best to be flexible and discuss the company’s requirements, you might not want to leave them in the lurch.
What is your availability?
If you’re asked this in a job interview, the answer is basically the duration of your notice period, as once you state that you are leaving, and formally resign, your notice period begins.
We have answers in another article on how to answer common interview questions.
We hope this article has answered all of your questions, and more, about notice periods.

This obligation arises when concluding an employment contract both at the main place of work and part-time, regardless of the amount of wages and the legal form of the employer organization (clauses 62 – 64 of the Methodological recommendations, clauses 2, 5 of the Resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of November 28, 2017 N 46, p. 63 of the Review of the judicial practice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation N 3 (2021) (approved by the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation on November 10, 2021), p. 63 of the Review of the judicial practice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation N 3 (2020) (approved by the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation on November 25, 2020)). Clarification of the current legislation and legal education
According to Article 37 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, labor is free; Everyone has the right to freely dispose of their abilities to work, to choose the type of activity and profession. nine0015
According to Art. 80 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, an employee has the right to terminate an employment contract with an employer at any time, both concluded for an indefinite period and a fixed-term employment contract, by notifying him of this in advance in writing.
Termination of an employment contract at one’s own will does not depend on the will of the employer. The current legislation does not provide for circumstances due to which the employer has the right to refuse the employee to terminate the employment contract on this basis. nine0015
The will of the employee to terminate the employment contract must be expressed in his application, drawn up in writing, which must be provided to the employer.
The only requirement for an employee to freely resign on his own initiative at any time is the obligation of the employee to notify the employer of his dismissal.
As a general rule, the notice period is two weeks before the day of dismissal. For employees who have been placed on probation upon hiring (during the probationary period), who work under fixed-term employment contracts concluded for a period of less than two months, as well as for employees involved in seasonal work, the notice period is three days. nine0015
On the contrary, for the head of the organization, employees of internal affairs bodies, a longer notice period for early termination of the contract is set – one month. For employees working for an employer – an individual, the notice period is determined by the employment contract. The establishment of these deadlines is due to the need to provide the employer with the opportunity to timely select a new employee for the vacant position, and at the same time ensures the protection of the employee’s labor rights, giving him the right to withdraw his application before the expiration of the notice of dismissal. nine0015
The notice period starts on the day after the employer receives the employee’s application for dismissal.
It is not allowed to unilaterally shorten the deadline for notification of the intention to terminate the employment relationship. There is one exception to this rule, when the reduction of the term is due to the occurrence of certain reasons (events) that make it impossible for the employee to continue working (enrollment in an educational organization, retirement, or other good reasons due to which the employee cannot continue working, for example sending a husband (wife) to work abroad, to a new place of service), as well as in cases of established violation by the employer of labor legislation and other regulatory legal acts containing labor law norms, local regulations, terms of a collective agreement, agreement or employment contract, the employer is obliged to terminate the employment contract within the period specified in the employee’s application. At the same time, it must be borne in mind that these violations can be established, in particular, by bodies exercising state supervision and control over compliance with labor legislation, trade unions, labor dispute commissions, and the court. nine0015
The notice period may be reduced by agreement between the employee and the employer. So, in the application, the employee has the right to indicate that he asks to dismiss him of his own free will on a certain day, that is, before the expiration of the warning period. The consent of the employer may be expressed in the form of a resolution on the application.
Before the expiration of the prescribed warning period, the employer does not have the right to issue an order to dismiss the employee under paragraph 3 of part 1 of Art. 77, art. 80 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, however, is not deprived of the opportunity to decide on dismissal on the grounds provided for in Art. 81 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation (termination of an employment contract at the initiative of the employer). nine0015
Prior to the expiration of the termination notice, the employee has the right to withdraw his or her application at any time. Dismissal in this case is not carried out, except for the case when another employee is invited to his place in writing in the order of transfer from another employer, within one month from the date of dismissal from the previous place of work. The withdrawal of the application must also be made in writing with the fixation of the date of receipt by the employer. In order to avoid abuse by the employer, the employee should keep copies of documents confirming that he sent the revocation of the letter of resignation, received it by the employer. nine0015
In the event that an employee submits an application for granting him unused vacation followed by dismissal of his own free will, the withdrawal of the application for dismissal is possible only before the start of the vacation.
After the expiration of the termination notice, the employee has the right to stop working. On the last day of work, the employer is obliged to give the employee a work book, other documents related to work, at the written request of the employee, and make the final settlement with him. nine0015
If the employment contract has not been terminated after the expiration of the termination notice and the employee does not insist on dismissal, the employment contract continues.
Dismissal at the initiative of the employee is allowed during the period of temporary disability of the employee and during his stay on vacation.
In case of disagreement with the dismissal, the employee has the right to apply to the court to resolve the labor dispute. If the employee believes that the employer forced him to file a resignation of his own free will, the obligation to prove this circumstance during the court hearing of the reinstatement case rests with the employee. nine0015
At the same time, explaining to an employee the possibility of holding him liable in case of illegal actions in the performance of official duties, the existence of grounds for the employer to dismiss the employee on other grounds, does not in itself indicate pressure from the employer. It is not regarded as forced dismissal and the fact that the plaintiff has conflict relations with other employees, his dissatisfaction with working conditions. The current judicial practice proceeds from the fact that an employee, submitting an application to an employer to terminate an employment contract, at his own discretion chooses an acceptable way for him to resolve a labor dispute, by terminating an employment relationship that does not suit him.

City of Louisville, Kentucky, USA
Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky. The urban population is more than six hundred thousand people. The city has an interesting geographical location. The largest city of Kentucky is the northernmost settlement among the cities of the South of the States. Louisville was influenced by the culture of the southern, middle states of America.
The settlement that later became Louisville was officially registered in the 78th year of the eighteenth century. The ancestor of the city was Colonel Rogers of the Armed Forces of America. He conducted military maneuvers against the British occupiers. The city was named after the ruler of France, Louis the 16th. Such attention was due to the fact that the soldiers of the French troops supported the American military in the struggle for the independence of the territory. nine0003
The development of the city began with the development of river rapids, which are called “waterfalls” here. These rapids were a major problem in shipping. As a result, the participation of groups of people who were well versed in navigation was required. Thus began the period of formation of the economic factor of Louisville, which was based on river traffic.
To date, the city has remained a transport hub for shipping, retaining its importance. But also developed air and rail transport. According to statistics, the working class prevails in the structure of the labor resources of the urban district. The city is based 2 major automotive production company Ford. Thirty percent of all Bourbon whiskey produced is made in Louisville. nine0003
Main Attractions
On the first weekend of May, an annual event takes place in the fate of the city. It was at this time that a sports competition called the Kentucky Derby was held. In the life of the city, the competition is marked as a socio-cultural event. This competition is a prestigious race of three-year-old horses. The race takes only two minutes and is considered the fastest time in the history of the sport.
Various events and festivals are held before the Kentucky Derby. Preliminaries include:
Show program “Thunder over the city”. The festive event attracts a huge audience, up to several hundred thousand people. An aviation show is shown during the day and ends with a grandiose fireworks display in the evening. Salute continues for half an hour, which takes several tens of tons of fireworks;
Balloon show. The event is held the week before the derby;
Long and short distance marathons in downtown Louisville;
Competition on steam ships along the Ohio river system. Among the participants in the competition, there is always an old working paddle steamer Louisville Belle; nine0018
A chic parade that commemorates the upcoming holiday.
Interesting places in the city or what else to see?
Antique Louisville. This area is part of the city’s history. The houses are built of red brick, in the Victorian style;
Museum of the famous boxer Muhammad Ali;
Louisville Baseball Museum and Plant. This manufacturing facility creates bats for baseball, including professional players; nine0018
Caves created artificially. Located under the city district;
Museum of Scientific Discoveries;
Fourth street of life. This name is associated with a shopping and entertainment center. It includes numerous cafes and catering restaurants, bars and clubs;
National Museum of Historical Facts.
City Climate Factor
Louisville’s climate is considered subtropical and humid. In winter, precipitation is possible: both in the form of snow and in the form of rain. Heavy snowfalls are considered rare in this area. The average January temperature is in the range of -1 degrees Celsius. The summer period is marked by sultry and stuffy times. Long periods of elevated temperatures are possible. In July, the average temperature is about 26 degrees. Louisville is located in a tornado danger zone. Over the entire period of existence, Louisville fell under the influence of this natural hurricane more than once. nine0003

There are many schools of pharmacy around the world, but there are some schools of pharmacy that do not require a PCAT. This raises a new question: what is PCAT? And how does this apply to pharmacy?
Before we move on to the PCAT, according to research, about 80% of pharmaceutical schools in the United States do not require the PCAT.
What’s more, with PCAT, one less intro is required. Similarly, applying to a pharmacy school that does not require a PCAT is easier than one that does.
However, in the 2022 school year, several schools in the remaining 20% have made the PCAT optional.
Contents
What does PCAT mean?
PCAT stands for College of Pharmacy Entrance Examination and is a standardized test taken by people who want to get into pharmacy school.
The test assesses general educational ability as well as medical knowledge for those interested in a career in pharmacy.
Most AACP (American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy) institutions now require candidates to take the PCAT in order to enroll in pharmacy school and earn a pharmacy degree.
How difficult is PCAT?
Let’s see how things are classified as complex to get a general idea of how to argue for PCAT complexity.
Let’s start with the fact that the term “hard” is subjective. This is because what one person finds difficult may seem relatively easy to another, and it works both ways.
Naturally, this suggests that students’ ability, desire to learn, ambition, and experience are the only factors that determine whether they pass the PCAT.
Despite a low GPA, some students defied the odds by avoiding the PCAT and getting into the pharmacy school of their choice.
Surprisingly, every candidate has an equal chance of doing well on the PCAT if they have the right mindset.
Some of the problems that PCAT applicants face are entirely in their heads.
This means that if you begin to believe the negative opinions about the PCAT from people around you, especially those who have not taken the PCAT before, you will lose confidence in your abilities and it will be more difficult for you to understand the study materials.
What is a good PCAT score?
Most top pharmacy schools aim for a PCAT score of 400 or higher.
Again, the applicant must take the PCAT approximately one year prior to entering pharmacy school in the fall semester.
Is MCAT related to PCAT?
MCAT is generally considered to be harder than PCAT in terms of complexity. Examples of difficult questions include biology and chemistry. Also, there is no physics in PCAT.
In addition, PCAT is much shorter and cheaper than MCAT. In general, most likely, this will be an easier and more convenient exam.
How long is pharmacy school?
To earn a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, you must complete at least two years of college education followed by four years of coursework in medicinal chemistry, internal medicine, physiology, pharmacology, toxicology, and pharmacokinetics.
Most students enter pharmaceutical school after completing three or more years of college. As such, becoming a pharmacist is challenging due to the extensive coursework required in STEM fields.
List of Schools of Pharmacy that do not require PCAT | 2022
Many schools and programs in the United States do not use the PCAT as an admissions criterion. Knowing which pharmacy school to apply to will improve your chances of getting admitted.

“My preschooler loves her class!”
My preschooler loves her class, teachers, and friends! She is learning a lot of Spanish and speaks to me in Spanish now!My one year old is obsessed with her teachers and pushes me away when I drop her off! She rarely does that with anyone else. My preschooler loves her class, teachers, and friends! She’s learning a lot of Spanish and speaks to me in Spanish now. Super impressed with the cleanliness of this school and the curriculum.

“5 Stars hands down!!!”
5 Stars hands down!!! We compared a few daycares in the area and decided to send our daughters to Worldkids!! They are well organized, and communicated with us at every step during registration and enrollment. Our daughter loves here, the staff loves kids, development programs are great. They also offer an app for you to keep track on your kid’s daily activities + pictures. I would highly recommend it. One thing to keep in mind, there is a long waitlist, so don’t wait last minute, you will need to plan ahead, it’s worth the wait to send your kids here.
— Lucy H., Parent
“This is a dedicated and caring staff, I would highly recommend Burien Worldkids.”
Choosing a care provider for your children can be incredibly difficult. We are so pleased by how welcoming everyone is at Worldkids Burien. They’re loving and warm towards our daughter and keep us informed of everything that happens throughout her day. The kids spend time outdoors which is important to us and it’s clear our daughter has made strides in learning letters, shapes, etc. since attending as well. This is a dedicated and caring staff, I would highly recommend Burien Worldkids.

The most unusual caterpillars from around the world

On the occasion of the anniversary, fans of the “Very Hungry Caterpillar” will receive a gift from the Zooblog: a monkey caterpillar, a crystal caterpillar, a snake caterpillar, a poisonous caterpillar and many others!
The first thing that comes to mind when they say “caterpillar” is a green worm, but there are caterpillars in nature that do not look like worms at all.
1. In the north of Australia you can find a brightly colored horned caterpillar – the larva of the slug moth . The slug has no legs and moves like a snail. It is protected from predators by poison, stronger than wasp.
From a brightly colored caterpillar, the slug turns into a dull little butterfly.
2. Monster caterpillar or caterpillar x imperial butterfly looks like a cartoon character
The little monster turns into a very beautiful butterfly.
3. “Crystal” caterpillar Acraga coa
In the jungles of South and Central America, you can meet this amazing creature, more like a magic crystal than a caterpillar.
“Crystal” caterpillars – tiny (no more than 25mm), very sticky and completely harmless.
The “Crystal” caterpillar transforms into the Dalcerid moth: a spectacular orange and fluffy butterfly.
4. Flower caterpillar, or moth caterpillar.
“It would be nice to do this – cut off all the curls. On the top of the head – a red poppy, and around the chamomile.” Do you know this song? If not, then be sure to listen, because the moth caterpillar fulfills the dream of the hero of this song.
All over the body of the caterpillar – “daisies” and other flowers grow. Only the caterpillar does this not for beauty, but to hide from predators. Caterpillars secrete liquid silk, which is used to glue flower petals to themselves. Floral attire should always be fresh and the caterpillar changes wilted flowers for new ones.
Find the caterpillar in the picture.
Moth butterflies are also great at hiding. It is not easy to notice a green butterfly on a green leaf.
5. Serpent caterpillar, or Hemeroplanes moth caterpillar.
These amazing caterpillars live in trees in the forests of Central America. In moments of danger, in order to scare away predators, they tear off the upper part of their body from a branch, swell up and become like a snake’s head with large eyes.
A talented snake caterpillar actress turns into a nondescript butterfly.
6. Giant caterpillar, or Hercules peacock-eye.
Hercules caterpillars are real giants, they can reach a length of 15 cm.
Caterpillars weave a thick cocoon before pupation. Close relatives of Hercules (Chinese and Japanese peacock eyes) are used to produce silk. The caterpillar turns into a huge butterfly with a wingspan of up to 27 cm. This is the largest butterfly in Australia.
7. Poisonous fluffies, or caterpillars of megapolis butterflies.
These amazing creatures live in North America. They are easy to confuse with a lump of fluff, but you should not pick up such a lump. Under the long silky hairs are hidden sharp short bristles soaked in poison. The poison causes a sharp pain, as from a burn, therefore these caterpillars are often called “fiery creatures”.
A fur caterpillar 2-3 cm long produces the same small fur butterflies.
8. The “monkey slug” has nothing to do with monkeys and slugs – it is a caterpillar of the Rhobetron pithecium moth from North America.
9. Polar caterpillar, or Kuznetsov’s caterpillar.
This caterpillar lives in the Arctic, on Wrangel Island. In winter, it freezes through, and in the spring it thaws and begins to feed intensively. But the short northern summer is not enough to accumulate the strength to turn into a butterfly and the caterpillar has to winter again and again. She will become a butterfly only for the 7th year of her life.
10. The ugly duckling caterpillar or urania is found only on the island of Madagascar.
This caterpillar hatches the most beautiful butterfly in the world:

Why are these caterpillars dangerous and how are they trying to deal with this problem in Germany.
https://p.dw.com/p/3eVoL

Each such caterpillar has about six hundred thousand small burning hairs from 0.1 to 0.2 millimeters – in addition to those long ones that are visible to the naked eye. Upon contact or contact with the skin, mucous membranes, eyes or respiratory tract of a person, they can cause various inflammations and even life-threatening reactions – skin redness and severe itching, conjunctivitis, asthma attacks, similar to nettle burns, in rare cases – suffocation and anaphylactic shock.
Moreover, the hairs continue to pose a threat even after the appearance of butterflies – they are carried by the wind from the spider web nests remaining on oak trees. Even with not very strong gusts of wind – within a radius of up to hundreds of meters.

Oak silkworm and global warming
In Germany, we are talking about oak silkworm caterpillars (Eichenprozessionsspinner or Eichen-Prozessionsspinner) – one of the walking silkworm species, the population of which has been growing rapidly here for many years in a row. Now they are found in all federal states. According to the dpa agency, the reason for this is the warming of the earth’s climate, which led to the creation of favorable conditions for their reproduction in the local latitudes – very mild winters combined with warm and dry spring periods. In addition, the trees themselves, due to repeated droughts, have become easier prey for such pests.
Migrating to new feeding grounds, marching silkworm caterpillars gather in long columns or processions, which is reflected in the names of these butterflies. Around the world, there are about a hundred species – oak, pine (they, in particular, are found in Russia), pistachio. The names and types are different, but the problems bring similar ones.
When individual trees or patches are found where the oak marching silkworm has spread, local authorities in Germany mark the sites with special signs or fence off with tape – they look like red and white police tapes, but they repeat the words “Eichenprozessionsspinner”. You need to stay away from such places.

Walking silkworms – how to deal with them?
If caterpillars have appeared on trees near schools, residential buildings, city parks or other crowded places, experts are called in to deal with them – for example, with special industrial vacuum cleaners. They themselves work in protective clothing. Collected caterpillars are sent to incinerators or buried in the ground.
Young caterpillars before the appearance of hairs can be destroyed by applying chemicals that block the shedding of chitinous cover . In some places, with the help of helicopters, a liquid with special bacteria – Bacillus thuringiensis – was sprayed over the trees. They are safe for humans, but caterpillars die from them by eating sprayed oak leaves.
Oak silkworm nests can also be destroyed by burning directly in the trees. This photo was taken in the summer of 2019 in Berlin Photo: picture-alliance/dpa/L.

Why does prekindergarten matter?
Attending high quality prekindergarten makes a big difference for small children. Children who go to high-quality 3- and 4-year-old prekindergarten enter school ready to learn and be successful, confident learners.
What does high-quality mean?
High-quality prekindergarten provides a learning environment that inspires curiosity, builds confidence, and fosters a love of learning. In high-quality prekindergarten, children learn essential skills for being successful in school like:
Paying attention
Following 2-3 step directions
Learning lots of new vocabulary words for objects and ideas that help them to comprehend what they read and hear
Learning the ABCs and the sounds associated with each letter
Learning how to read and write short words including their name
Learning numbers from 1-20 and counting
Sequencing, sorting and problem solving skills that will help them with reading and math
Following daily routines
Taking turns, sharing and appropriately communicating with others
Building strength and coordination of muscles for academic and nonacademic activities
Exploring
Asking questions
Seeking answers
Building confidence as learners and a positive relationship with school
There are specific expectations and requirement for high-quality prekindergarten programs that can be found on the HQPK page.
Kindergarten Readiness Statement
TEA supports high-quality prekindergarten that is developmentally appropriate, multi-sensory, and experiential. Young children thrive when provided a learning environment that inspires curiosity, builds confidence, and fosters a love of learning.
Children are “ready” for school when families, schools, and communities work together to ensure they enter school with strong foundational knowledge and skills across 5 primary domains of development. Although separate, these domains are interconnected and development in one area reinforces development in the other. The primary domains of development are:
Physical – Gross and Fine Motor
Literacy – Reading and Writing
Mathematical – Concepts and Thinking
Language and Communication
Health and Wellness
In order to provide high-quality early childhood education that is focused on the unique needs of each child, student progress monitoring and kindergarten readiness should be measured across multiple domains of development.
Is Your Child Eligible?
To find out if your child is eligible for free public 3-and 4-year old prekindergarten, see the FAQ page.
Together we can ensure that every child in Texas thrives!
Parent Guides
Strong family engagement in early childhood programs is central to promoting children’s healthy intellectual, physical, and social-emotional development; preparing children for school; and supporting academic achievement in elementary school and beyond.
One way to promote strong family engagement is to equip families with tools to enhance and extend their child’s learning. These Parent Guides have been created to help families understand some of the things their child will learn each school year. These resource documents have been developed for Prekindergarten 3, Prekindergarten 4, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade and may be distributed to families at various times during the school year, including:
Beginning of school year and/or back-to-school events
Family conferences and/or home visits
When a new child enrolls in your class
End of school year in preparation for the following year
Family engagement events and activities
Use these documents to spark conversations and increase families’ knowledge on how they can support their child at home.
Act Early Texas! provides parents and early childhood professionals with information designed to determine if a child is developing similarly to other children his or her age. The tool is designed to answer the question, “Is this child’s development like other children of the same age?“
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also provides helpful information about numerous key development milestones that parents can look for with their children.
CLI Engage for Parents
For over ten years, the Texas School Ready project has been supporting prekindergarten teachers in our common goal of improving children’s “school readiness”—the foundational knowledge children need to be prepared for Kindergarten. Through the new CLI Engage platform, we are excited to provide opportunities for parents to participate in the Texas School Ready! project too!
Prekindergarten Guidelines
The Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines are aligned with the Kindergarten Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), sequenced to follow child development and give teaching strategies for each of the guidelines. The guidelines offer educators the information and support to prepare all children for success in school.
Developmental Guidelines – 0-5 years old
Published in 2013, the Texas Infant, Toddler, and Three-Year-Old Early Learning Guidelines describe expectations about what children should know and be able to do across developmental domains of learning during specific age ranges, as well as what steps caregivers should take to support healthy development.

Educational games for children 3-4 years old
7418
Three years is the age of the researcher. The main thing for this age is acquaintance with objects and their qualities: shape, size, color, location in space, movement, etc. At the same time, during the game there is an opportunity to introduce the child to many concepts, to teach to establish patterns and evaluate relationships. The ability to identify the features of an object and, focusing on them, to compare objects is universal, applicable to any objects. Once formed and well developed, this skill will be transferred by the child to any situation requiring its use.
We would like to offer you some simple exercises that will allow you to conduct a developmental lesson with your child in a playful way.
1. Game “Who is more?” – contributes to the formation of the concept of “one” and “many” in the child, and also introduces one of the ways of comparison. Hide your hands behind your back and at the same time show your child fingers – one or many. Accordingly, when you say “One”, show one finger, when you say “Many”, show any number of fingers – 2, 3, 4 or 5. Then invite the child, on command, to show their fingers with you – also one or many. Play with the child while he is having fun, it can be 1-2 minutes. Over time, add a comparison of the number of fingers, putting the palms together. For example, after the command “Many” you showed 3 fingers, and the child 5. The one who showed more fingers won. Checking, we explain how we found out who has more – we put each of his fingers to ours. Starting from the 4th finger, we say that you no longer have it, and he still has fingers, which means he has more.
2. Game “What’s in the palm of your hand?” – develops attention and teaches to understand the logical construction “denial”. This game requires materials – chips (dice, circles, etc.) of three different colors that the child knows. For example, white, blue, yellow. We hide the chip in the palm and say “Not white and not yellow. Guess which one!” If the child says “Blue”, he guessed right – the chip goes to him. If you make a mistake, the chip goes to you. Change the role of the leader with the child, sometimes make special mistakes so that he “catch” you. At the end of the game, you can compare who has more chips (by pairing, as in the previous game).
3. Exercise “Fold a circle” – develops perception and skills of synthesis and analysis. This exercise also requires materials – draw circles on white paper and cut them along the indicated lines:
We invite the child to make a whole circle from the cut parts. At first, the details of each circle should be in separate envelopes so that the child does not have to choose which parts to add. Over time, if the child easily folds each circle, you can move on to a more complex option – when the details of 2-3 circles are given together. The task at the same time: “choose the necessary details and fold the circle.” If a child has difficulty constructing a figure, you can give him a sample – for example, stick a circle of the same details on an envelope.
An important condition for performing all these exercises is that the child is in a good mood, that he feels that he is doing well. Be sure to praise him for his success, and if it is not immediately possible to complete the task, praise him for his efforts and for his desire to complete. Remember that at 3 years old it is still very difficult for a baby to keep his attention on one thing, he is easily distracted and moves from one activity to another. When studying with a child, be sincere – the child should see and feel that you are also interested!
We wish you interesting and useful activities with your kids! And you can diversify classes by completing online tasks for children 3-4 years old on the Razumeikin website.

What are the forms of higher education
3 February 2020
News TO
For those who have not yet dealt with higher education, it often turns out to be difficult to figure out how it works, what types and forms of education there are. This is especially true for applicants who are going to enroll in the near future. Most of them often perceive only one, the most familiar, scenario for obtaining higher education: to enroll in a full-time department after school. However, this option does not exhaust all the variety of possibilities – there are more alternatives than it seems. And it would be nice to find among them the one that suits you. But for this, you must first properly study the issue, in which this article will help.
Levels of education
Although the system of higher education has adopted many traditions of the Soviet system, it differs significantly from it. First of all, the emergence of more levels of education, or its stages. Previously, students studied for at least 5 years, and as a result they received a diploma of a specialist. In our time, the specialty is practically abolished, education is arranged differently. The reason for this is Russia’s accession to the Bologna Agreement. Russia has become one of the European countries where education is, firstly, unified (which means it is valued everywhere), and secondly, it has several levels (bachelor’s and master’s degrees), thanks to which you can get education in related fields.
So, in Russia, higher education has the following levels:
1. Undergraduate
Bachelor’s degree is a completed higher education. You can enroll in a bachelor’s degree after secondary general education (i.e. after grade 11 of school) or secondary special education (i.e. after college). The study lasts 4 years, at the final course it is necessary to defend the final qualifying work. Upon completion, you receive a bachelor’s degree
2. Master’s degree
Either bachelors or specialists can enter the magistracy. The study lasts 2 years, at the end you also need to defend a qualifying work – a master’s thesis. As a result, you get a master’s degree. A notable feature of the master’s program is the opportunity to enter a specialty that differs from the bachelor’s degree, which means expanding the scope of one’s competencies and becoming a universal specialist.
3. Specialist
Despite the fact that in many programs the specialist’s degree has been replaced by bachelor’s and master’s degrees, it still continues to exist. Specialist education is aimed primarily at practical work. These are various applied specialties from an astronomer to a psychologist, as well as creative professions (a literary worker, a vocalist, etc.). You can enter a specialist, as well as a bachelor’s degree, after the 11th grade of school or after college. Training in this case lasts at least 5 years. After passing the exams and defending the thesis, the graduate receives a specialist diploma, which indicates his qualifications.
4. Training of highly qualified personnel
Postgraduate studies
The graduate school trains future teachers of higher education and researchers, so in addition to studying there is practice, research work and pedagogical activity. The training lasts at least 3 years. Upon completion of postgraduate studies, a postgraduate diploma is issued with the qualification of “Teacher-Researcher” or “Researcher”, and after defending the dissertation – the degree of Candidate of Sciences.
Postgraduate
Adjuncture is similar to graduate school, but in the field of military affairs. It operates in educational institutions that belong to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
Residency
Residency is the final stage in the training of doctors. They enter residency after higher medical education. The study lasts 2 years and combines the study of theory with gaining practical experience in medical institutions. At the end of the training, you must pass a qualifying exam, which consists of 3 stages. Graduates of residency are issued a corresponding diploma.
Assistant trainee
This form of education is familiar to few people; it trains highly qualified workers in the field of arts. As a rule, students here follow an individual curriculum. Study lasts no more than 2 years. Graduates submit a thesis for defense, which is some kind of creative project: a concert, an exhibition, a film, a book, etc. As a result of the assistantship-internship, a diploma is issued on its completion.
Forms of higher education
In Russian universities, there are several forms of education: full-time (daytime), part-time (evening) and part-time. Recently, a remote form has also been distinguished, which is essentially a correspondence form of education using distance technologies.
1. Full-time (full-time) education
In face-to-face training, classes are held in the morning or afternoon. The learning process involves regular visits to the university, regular work at lectures, practical classes and seminars, and hence live interaction with teachers and other students. Systematic control, being in the “environment” motivates students and affects the quality of their education. There is only one drawback: it is difficult to combine full-time studies with work or other activities.
2. Part-time (evening) education
Classes in full-time distance learning also require attendance, but in the evening or on weekends. About 50% of the program is mastered by students on their own. This is very convenient for those who work and do not have the opportunity to devote all their time to studying.
Students studying at the correspondence department master the program mostly on their own, they are present at the university only during sessions, diploma defense and practice. Distance learning is chosen by those who live in a city far from the university or are busy with work.
3.2. Distance learning – Correspondence form of education using distance learning technologies
According to official documents, distance learning is a kind of correspondence education, so their diplomas are completely the same. Distance learning is suitable for those who most of the time work or live in another city: you don’t need to visit the university, and study, pass exams, and defend your final work through the Internet. It will be necessary to appear only for the internship.
So, there are many types of higher education in Russia. On the one hand, it is multi-stage: there are bachelor’s, master’s, postgraduate studies, etc. – thanks to which you can build your personal educational trajectory in such a way as to become the owner of several specializations at once and even in different areas. On the other hand, higher education in Russia today has become a more mobile, faster and, most importantly, convenient process. Now you can study not only full-time or part-time, but also remotely, that is, via the Internet, at any time and in any place. In general, there are plenty to choose from. The next step is already yours. Find your educational path and learn with pleasure!
Daytime or part-time?
Why do I need a higher education?
What student has not asked this question? And even if you have firmly decided that you cannot do without a university, have decided on a specialty, preparatory courses and an educational institution, then you have to solve at least one more task. Often, prospective students do not properly think about the choice between full-time and part-time departments: as a rule, they prefer the way of learning that their parents studied. However, this kind of imitation is not always justified.
Let’s try to analyze the main differences between full-time and part-time education.
1.
As they say, those who have not studied full-time do not know what “student life” is. And indeed, only full-time students are given to experience all the delights of the session, the same one that “twice a year” and a fun life the rest of the time: crazy discos, summer construction teams, a unique hostel, very specific food – this list can be continued up to infinity. In general, a lot of vivid memories of your student years are guaranteed to you.
2.
Constant supervision by the teacher and healthy rivalry among students encourages better learning, thus creating additional incentives for acquiring knowledge. For a person who does not have clear skills of self-discipline, this factor can be decisive in choosing the form of education at a university.
3.
Many study abroad programs are only available to full-time students. And study or internship abroad is always quoted by employers. The same can be said about various competitions.
4.
Often, a person entering a full-time department, after a couple of months of study, begins to seriously worry about the presence of subjects on the course that the student does not consider necessary. And if the student is also accustomed to doing all homework conscientiously, as well as valuing his time, then there is a serious threat of disappointment in higher education in general and leaving the university. In this case, the correspondence department is more democratic: you will not be able to completely avoid an unloved subject, but it is in your power to reduce the number of hours spent on it.
5.
Of course, the correspondence department is an ideal option for those who want to combine study with work. It is no secret that in most cases a specialist with work experience is valued more than a recent “green” student.
