Cat sitter – Sir Cat

Cat sitter

09 July 2022

How often have you faced the problem that there is no one to leave your pet with when you leave. We are sure that this question is relevant for you, so we have devoted an article to the question of where to find a nanny for a cat.

If you have to leave, then a cat sitter is vital. Especially if you plan to be away for more than three or four days.

The thing is that cats, contrary to prejudices, are very attached to humans and love them no less than dogs. Therefore, prolonged loneliness is fraught for a pet with the development of depression, which can flow into various, both acute and chronic diseases.

If the absence of the owner is short – 3-4 days, then you can safely leave the animal. But, again, this is acceptable only if:

  • The cat has no health problems
  • The animal does not need daily medication
  • The diet does not involve frequent fractional feeding, when food should be given in small portions 4-5 times a day. As a rule, this is indicated for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas.
  • The cat is not pregnant or, if pregnant, is not scheduled to give birth within the next 1-2 weeks.
  • The nature and temperament of the cat, balanced and no behavioral problems.

Only if your pet does not have the above problems and signs, then it can be left alone. But take care to create optimal conditions for pastime.

  • Sufficient food supply
  • Pour purified water into a larger container
  • Fill the tray with more filler or install a duplicate tray.
  • Leave your pet’s favorite toys and bed freely.
  • Just in case, leave the keys to the apartment to someone you know, so that in case of your longer absence, there will be someone to look after the animal.

But not every owner is able to go away and leave his pet alone, so the search for a nanny for a cat is very relevant. We’ll tell you where to find it.

Professional petsitters

The cat and dog sitter service is relatively new and is only available in big cities. But it is already quite popular. The bottom line is that agency employees select a person who, in your absence, will come to your home and take care of the pet.

If we are talking about a dog, then this is feeding, games and a mandatory walking of the animal 2-3 times a day.

With cats everything is easier and more difficult at the same time. At first glance, they do not need to be walked – just change the tray and add food. And if necessary, give the right medicine, if there are such prescriptions. But an animal needs human attention – it needs to be petted, played with, etc. But not all pets make contact, many simply hide or even attack the nanny. Therefore, make sure that the pet does not show aggression and that contact with the petsitter is established before you leave.

Service for finding a cat sitter is, of course, quite convenient, but has pitfalls:

  • Not every pet owner will agree to let a stranger in. Many do not trust, fearing to fall into the clutches of thieves and scammers. It’s great if the house has security cameras that you can connect to online.
  • Due to the novelty of the service, it is not always possible to establish cooperation with experienced employees who know how to deal with animals.
  • Such a service may simply not be provided in your city.

Hotel for cats

Modern hotels for cats have a high level of service, so this is the best way to find a cat sitter.

The advantages of such organizations are undeniable:

  • Qualified personnel with significant experience in interacting with animals or even specialized education. Such professional nannies for a cat know when the animal is in the mood to play or caress, and when it is not necessary to touch it and leave it alone.
  • 24-hour video surveillance. The camera is installed in every room. The owner, using a smartphone, can connect to the camera in real time and make sure that everything is in order with the cat.
  • Comfortable rooms made of tempered glass. The material was chosen for a reason – it does not absorb odors, glass numbers are easy to clean and, in addition, the animal has a perfect view.
  • Each hotel for cats has a veterinarian on staff and a contract concluded with a veterinary clinic for medical support. Before being admitted to the hotel, the cat is examined. If you leave the animal for a long time, then the manipulations can be repeated.
  • Affordable cost of maintenance.
  • Strict compliance with all instructions for keeping the animal.

If you need to find a qualified nanny for a cat, then in the hotel Sir Kot you will find everything you need. Book and find out about available rooms on the site.

Cat sitter on vacation

Cat sitter on vacation

February 25, 2022

In summer, almost all people go to rest on the sea. But, if you have a cat, where to attach it? Taking your pet with you on a trip is not always possible. It’s one thing if you’re driving nearby and in your own car. And another, if you fly to rest in another country. Then you need to draw up a bunch of documents, do all the vaccinations. And long flights do not always have a positive effect on cats. The only correct solution in this case is to find a nanny for the cat during the holidays.

What does it mean to have a babysitter for a cat on vacation? This makes them feel uneasy. In order not to unnerve your pet once again, you should turn to friends and relatives who will be able to come to your house several times a day to feed him. But for this the owner will have to:

  • buy the required amount of feed;
  • Tell your visiting cat sitter how often to feed and water him during your vacation;
  • show how to change the tray;
  • exchange phone numbers with someone who will look after your four-legged.

If you have a very sociable pet, it may get bored during a long absence of the owners. An occasional nanny for a cat during the holidays will not solve the problem. In that case, consider other options.

Moving to friends, relatives

A nanny for a cat during the holidays can be among your close friends, relatives. It is worth choosing those candidates who love pets and easily find a common language with them. It is desirable that the cat was familiar with them. And to relieve stress when moving to temporary owners, he should provide his favorite toys, a house, a couch. Keep in mind, a cat sitter for the holidays is only suitable for those animals that easily make contact with strangers, that is, we are talking about affectionate cats.

When sending your pet to friends, relatives, pay attention to the conditions in which he will live there. If there are small children or an angry dog, then look for another option for overexposure.

Cat hotel or paid overstaying

A cat sitter for a vacation in a special hotel is the ideal solution. Here the pet will be provided with the necessary conditions for a comfortable stay:

  • well-chosen food;
  • walks;
  • games;
  • water procedures.

Keeping an animal in a special hotel will not be cheap, but this method has a lot of advantages:

  • pet care by qualified specialists;
  • assistance when needed. Here they know exactly how to prevent stressful situations for the animal;
  • the presence of a separate room, which is specially intended for animals. The cat will not run away, is not injured, and will not be allowed to get bored;
  • professional care with all specific needs;
  • 24/7 pet monitoring via webcam. The owner will always be able to see what his pet is doing and how he is being treated.

A nanny for a cat during a vacation in a pet hotel is good. But, before you take the cat to the hotel, go there yourself and familiarize yourself with the conditions for keeping animals. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the institution, the size of the cages, the presence and qualifications of specialists. Ask how often the cages are cleaned, what products are used for this (they must be hypoallergenic, and should not harm the health of cats).

A good choice would be the hotel for pets “Sir Cat” https://sircat.ru/perederzhka-koshek-v-moskve/. A catossiter from the hotel a few days before your departure will come to your house to get acquainted with the animal. So it will be easier for the cat to endure stress from a change in his usual environment.

What if you leave your pet at home alone

Doing this is strictly prohibited. Especially if the owner will be absent for a long time (1-3 weeks). After all, any animal in the summer needs fresh and clean water, proper nutrition, and cleaning the tray. If he becomes ill or injured, there will be no one to help him. Veterinarians admit that it is possible to leave a pet alone in an apartment for 1-2 days. And then, provided that you leave enough food, provide clean trays and fresh water during your absence.

If it was not possible to find a person who will look after the cat during your absence for several days, provide the pet with the following:

  • enough water in the drinking bowl;
  • place several trays;
  • fill the automatic feeder with dry food;
  • take care of the safety of the cat: close all windows, remove sharp objects, make sure that the cat does not get to dangerous things.

10 top non-shedding cat breeds

If you have cat allergies, you may have given up on your hopes of being a cat owner, but abandoning your feline dreams may not be necessary. Non-shedding cat breeds might be the solution to your problem.

“There are two types of cat allergies — dander and protein,” explains Jacqui Bennett, the education and outreach chairperson for Cat Fanciers‘ Association, Inc.‘s Breed Standards. “If you are allergic to dander, you may be able to own a cat which does not have a double coat.” Most cats have double coats, which include a woolly undercoat and an outer coat of coarse guard hairs, Bennett explains, but some non-shedding cats, such as a Cornish Rex, Devon Rex or Sphynx don’t. “If you’re allergic to protein, which can be found in a cat’s saliva,” she adds, “it is difficult to find a cat which you are not allergic to.”

Resist the urge to bathe a kitty if you are allergic to cats. Bathing a cat will not relieve allergies, according to Michelle Groeper, executive director of Tails Humane Society, which handles animal rescues and adoptions. “Cat baths aren’t advisable,” she says, because after the bath, “the cat’s body will work overtime to get its natural pH balance back to normal, which may result in additional allergy issues.”

To keep allergies at bay, Groeper instead recommends a regular routine of using pet wipes and brushing the cat. She emphasizes that during that process, “not touching your face and eyes, along with washing your hands frequently, can contribute to a more harmonious coexistence with the feline friend and allergic human friend.”

If you’re planning to adopt any new furry family member, make sure to spend time with the cat to ensure your allergies won’t pose a problem.

Here’s a list of 10 top non-shedding cats.

1. Bengal

This breed closely resembles its big cat relatives, especially the leopard. They are “highly active and, for the most part, very vocal. They will let you know exactly where you stand,” says Bennett.

2. Bombay

If you’re looking for a pet panther, you’re in luck! This breed looks a lot like its smaller cousin. Bennett says, “The Bombay is an outgoing, friendly cat with a loving personality, who is comfortable with other cats, dogs and children.”

3. Russian Blue

A devoted companion animal, this cat will do whatever it can to get your attention. They’re a fairly quiet breed but very affectionate and, as Bennett notes, will “find a quiet seat next to you or fetch a toy at playtime.”

4. Siberian

Also called the Siberian Forest Cat, this longhair fluffy cat “enjoys the company of children, dogs and other animals,” Bennett says.

5. Burmese

The wide eyes and lovable nature of this breed will melt your heart. According to Bennett, “their personalities are almost dog-like.” Because of their relatively innocent and trusting nature, they should be indoor-only cats.

6. Devon Rex

Bennett refers to this breed as the “pixie of the cat fancy” because of its elf-like ears and “large, impish eyes.” She notes that these cats “are a fun-loving breed with a relaxed and social attitude rarely associated with cats. ” If you consider yourself more of a dog person, this may be the cat for you!

7. Cornish Rex

With its curly coat and very large ears set atop a small head, this is an energetic and vocal cat who will constantly remind you they’re the boss. Be prepared to give them lots of attention, Bennett warns, because they’ll demand it.

8. Colorpoint Shorthair

This lithe cutie is “a chatterbox,” notes Bennett, “and at the same time is a loving and an affectionate breed, devoted and loyal to people.” Colorpoint Shorthairs demonstrate sensitivity and compassion toward their owners.

9. Siamese

This popular breed is very friendly, outgoing and playful. They require lots of love and attention from their humans, and they will let you know if you aren’t giving them enough attention! As one of the most vocal cat breeds, they’ll provide constant companionship.

10. Sphynx

Although a non-shedding cat, this breed does produce dander. Their “playful” and “mischievous” personality makes them the center of attention, says Bennett, adding that they “seem to prefer human attention but enjoy the company of dogs and all other breeds of cats.”

20 Cat Breeds That Don’t Shed

These Cat Breeds That Don’t Shed Will Save Your Couch (And Possibly Your Sinuses)

If you’re a cat allergy sufferer who happens to love cats, we have good news: There are a handful of hairless cat breeds and cat breeds that don’t shed much that may help alleviate your itchy eyes and runny nose—or at least save you money on lint rollers.

Click the buttons below to jump to that section:

Hypoallergenic Cats: Do They Exist?

Managing Your Cat Allergies

20 Cat Breeds That Don’t Shed

Are There Hypoallergenic Cat Breeds?

Unfortunately, there are no truly hypoallergenic cat breeds. That’s because an allergenic protein called Fel d 1 is created in cats’ sebaceous glands in their skin, as well as in their saliva, dander and urine. Since all cats have these things, they all produce Fel d 1—and that means you expose yourself to them every time you touch any cat, says Chris Menges, DVM, MPH, chief veterinary officer of Basepaws in El Segundo, California. Even hairless cat breeds create this allergen in their saliva and skin.

Cat allergens also collect on carpets, walls and clothes, adds Estee Vogel, PA-C, an ear, nose and throat specialist with South Florida ENT Associates.

While Vogel says that even the tiniest amount of this protein can cause a reaction for some allergy sufferers, others may experience fewer allergy symptoms around cats that don’t shed or shed less, since they aren’t spreading as many allergens throughout a home via saliva-contaminated hair.

So if you have a history of allergic reactions to cats but still wish to have one in your home, it might be worth looking into hairless cat breeds or cat breeds that don’t shed as frequently.

Managing Your Cat Allergies

The American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology says that avoiding cats is the best way to manage an allergy to the species. But if you just can’t stay away from these sweet and snuggly animals (hey, we get it) here’s what you can do to help with the side effects.

Vogel says cat allergy treatments are readily available in the form of antihistamines, such as Claritin and Zyrtec, intranasal steroid sprays like Flonase and Nasonex, or other various over-the-counter oral and spray decongestants. Vogel recommends consulting with an allergist to determine what would be best for you.

To lessen the effects of allergies for themselves and others, pet parents should also:

  • Wash your hands after petting or playing with your cat.
  • Use a lint roller to remove excess hair from clothes.
  • Vacuum and dust your home often to help remove excess hair and consider using a HEPA (or high-efficiency particulate air) grade filter in your vacuum to capture and filter especially fine particles.
  • Keep your cat groomed and bathed regularly to lessen loose hair and dander.

Here are some supplies that can help:

Living with cats and cat allergies can be tricky, but it is possible. Take a lesson from this cat veterinarian with severe cat allergies, or this cat parent living with cat allergies and eight—eight!—cats.

20 Cat Breeds That Don’t Shed (Or, At Least, Shed Less)

One of these cats may be the perfect pet for you, whether you suffer from allergies or simply don’t wish to accessorize your all-black outfits with cat hair.

iStock.com/Yolya

Sphynx

The Sphynx is a naturally hairless cat thanks to a genetic mutation and a top choice for people hoping to lessen their cat allergies. Teresa Keiger with The Cat Fanciers’ Association says some Sphynx have a little peach fuzz-like fur on their body. Like all hairless cats, they will require some basic grooming. Keiger explains that like people, all cats’ skin secretes oil, and gently wiping their body will help reduce this oil. She says these kitties make great snuggle partners.

iStock.com/Okssi68

Cornish Rex

Though the Cornish Rex has hair, this cat’s coat sheds less than other breeds, Keiger says. Their fur is curly, very short and lies close to the body. The Cornish Rex is also a very playful breed, so they could be the perfect choice for someone who wants an active playmate for themselves or their other pets.

iStock.com/insonnia

Devon Rex

The Devon Rex is another curly-haired breed with a short coat. Kieger says these cats will develop a very tight bond with their owner, and they love attention. Of course, all that love will mean more hair, saliva and allergens on your clothes, so if you’re especially sensitive, consult your doctor.

iStock.com/Jeja

Burmese

The Burmese is a small cat with a short, fine coat that naturally has less hair than other breeds. According to the Cat Fanciers’ Association, they have a lot of affection for their people, wanting to be by their side as much as they can—but without being overly demanding. Some Burmese will even play fetch with a toy!

iStock.com/cunfek

Birman

One look at this breed’s fabulously fluffy coat probably has you imagining hair covering every clingy surface in your home, but The Cat Fanciers’ Association allbreed judge, Hope Gonano, says the breed is relatively low-shedding thanks to its non-matting coat which requires minimal grooming. Additionally, Birmans are intelligent, gentle and affectionate by nature. They respond well to training and can adapt to living with children and other pets in your home.

iStock.com/merteren

Exotic Shorthair

Often described as a short-haired Persian, the Exotic Shorthair’s thick, dense coat is shed minimally, says Gonano, although they do require some combing to properly remove any dead hair. A calm, relaxed breed, Exotic Shorthairs are affectionate and can adapt easily to an apartment setting or country living.

iStock.com/Marcel Cuberta

Russian Blue

Another minimal shedder, Russian Blues generally shed over a two- to three-week period just once or twice a year, Gonano says, and are easy to groom. They have a soft, dense double coat that is a distinctive silver blue. A medium-sized breed with a graceful, muscular build, the Russian Blue has a gentle temperament and is known for being easy to train.

iStock.com/MilanEXPO

Siamese

According to Gonano, Siamese cats have low-maintenance coats that can be cared for by brushing with a fine-tooth comb. Once their dead hair is removed, they’ll shed minimally. With large ears, distinctive blue eyes and a sleek, slim figure, the Siamese comes in seal, chocolate, blue and lilac point, and loves being around and chatting with their people.

iStock.com/Leschenko

Oriental Shorthair

Because of their connection to the Siamese family, Oriental Shorthairs are similarly easy to groom, says Gonano. Long and slender like the Siamese, Oriental Shorthairs differ in their coloring, which can come in over 300 colors and patterns that include ebony, white, bi-color and tabby. A loving, entertaining breed, these kitties like to be the center of attention and can become sensitive if ignored or left alone too often.

Donskoy

According to The International Cat Association, this elegant breed can be found with four different coat types that come in a variety of colors. All but one coat type usually results in hairlessness, making the Donskoy a great low-shed option. Some Donskoys have patchy fur or short peach-fuzz that can be very soft to the touch. They are sociable cats who enjoy being the center of attention.

iStock.com/MightPics

Bengal

The distinctive Bengal is known for its stunning coat whose vivid spots and leopard-like marbling will remind you of this cat’s wild cousins. This same coat, which is velvety soft to the touch, sheds minimally. According to The Cat Fancier’s Association, Bengals are curious, athletic and affectionate. These cats love to play and are great for pet parents who enjoy an engaging and intelligent companion.

Bombay

The sleek, black coat of the Bombay makes this cat look like a mini panther. And luckily, as the International Cat Association notes, their short, tight coat sheds very little compared to other cat breeds and needs minimal maintenance. Occasional brushing should keep their shiny fur in tip-top form. The Bombay is a smart, inquisitive and outgoing companion. This friendly and easy-going cat can do well in busy homes with a family to keep them entertained.

iStock.com/Seregraff

Peterbald

According to The International Cat Association, Peterbalds may be totally hairless or have a variety of coats ranging from short peach fuzz to slightly dense and velvety—but all varieties are low-shedding. This adorable cat has an inquisitive look thanks to its large, batlike ears. Peterbalds are known to be very smart, vocal and incredibly affectionate—if you want a cat who won’t leave your side, this friendly breed is a great low-shedding option.

iStock.com/chairboy

Ocicat

The gorgeous spotted coat of the Ocicat is low maintenance and sheds minimally compared to other breeds. Keiger says this breed has a tight coat. The International Cat Association recommends a weekly brushing with a rubber brush to remove any dead hair. All ocicats have a spotted pattern that comes in a variety of different colors including brown, chocolate, cinnamon, blue, lilac and fawn. Energetic and devoted, Ocicats are happiest in an active home with pet parents who are fond of regular playtime.

iStock.com/Viktor

Singapura

The International Cat Association says the Singapura, the smallest breed of cat, is also one of the lowest-shedding cat breeds. This cat packs a delightful personality into their petite package. All Singapuras are a single color—their short, soft, brown coat sheds lightly to moderately at most, and requires very little grooming. This intelligent and curious little cat is equally happy to play or to curl up close to their person.

Minskin

A cross between the Sphynx and Munchkin breeds, Minskins have a sparse coat with patches of dense, soft fur often on their face, ears, nose, legs and tails. According to The International Cat Association, their minimal coat sheds very little and comes in all colors and patterns. Minskins are generally outgoing and love being around people and other animals. Though they have short legs, they are very athletic and playful and have no trouble keeping up with their longer-legged counterparts.

iStock.com/ginosphotos

The Cat Fancier’s Association notes that the Korat’s silver-tipped blue fur consists of a single coat that lies close to the body. Thanks to this short, tight coat, the Korat tends to shed less than other cats. You’ll appreciate their soft, low-shedding coat as this cute companion loves to cuddle and will stick close by your side. Korats are playful and intelligent but also love to chill.

iStock.com/Celiaaa

Colorpoint Shorthair

A close relative of the Siamese, Colorpoint Shorthairs have a short, sleek coat that requires little grooming and sheds minimally. Colorpoints are talkative and affectionate so if you want a feline shadow who follows you around the house, this breed is a good option. They are also highly intelligent, and some even enjoy games like fetch.

iStock.com/Sally Hinton

Tonkinese

Tonkinese cats have a soft, minimally shedding coat that is short, silky and perfect for petting. The Cat Fancier’s Association notes that they come in 12 coat colors with various patterns. Verbose, inquisitive and always happy to have a buddy, the Tonkinese is a great companion who will entertain their pet parents with their fun-loving antics.

While no cat is truly hypoallergenic, people who both love and are allergic to cats might still be able to have one in their home by choosing a low-shedding breed. Of course, consider the severity of your allergies and consult your doctor before getting a cat.

Here’s hoping you’ll be able to snuggle up soon with one of these minimally shedding kitties! Your sinuses (and your furniture) will thank you.

Cats are independent and bold. They can spend hours sitting on the owner’s lap while he rolls on the couch, or spend hours hunting for small prey. Also, most cat breeds tend to like to talk day and night, which can be a little annoying, especially when you’re trying to get some rest.

Fortunately, you can stop suffering from midnight screams of a cat: it can actually be taught to be quieter. True, this process is unlikely to be easy. But if you want to get a new cat, you can choose a breed that hardly meows. There are many “silent” cats that can make a great furry companion for your household.

13 cat breeds that are known for their “silence”.

Burmese cat

With a playful nature, the Burmese loves company but tends to be quiet when it knows you are busy or asleep. These cats have a luxurious silky coat that does not stray into tangles. They can weigh up to 7 kg, so these are quite large pussies. Burmese prefer not to be the only animal in the house, so consider making at least one friend for such a cat.

Chartreuse

These cats have a beautiful blue hue and can weigh up to 7 pounds. They have a soft and affectionate nature, love to cuddle, and their muscular bodies make them ideal mousers. Chartreuse tend to be very attached to all family members. They are also known for having little to no meow, which can be important for many future cat owners.

Cornish Rex

The affectionate behavior of these cats makes them popular with friends and family members. Cornish Rex have very soft fur that is pleasant to stroke. They are small, active cats who love to play with toys and interact with others. Fortunately, they are also known for being quiet.

Havana

These brown cats are very sociable, playful and funny. They especially like moving toys and will never turn down the opportunity to enjoy catnip. When it’s time for bed, you can be sure that the Havana cat will snuggle up to your feet. She won’t meow every time she wants attention.

LaPerm

Cats of this breed are distinguished by calmness, cheerful character and beautiful curly hair. They will happily spend their days on your lap or cozy up at your computer while you work. LaPerms only meow when something really important happens or when they feel bad. Otherwise, cats prefer to communicate through touch and play.

Ragdoll

The plush coat of these cats is irresistible and easy to care for. They love to follow their family members and sit on their laps to show affection. Ragdolls are smart and can even learn tricks. At the same time, they will be engaged in training quietly, with a rare meow during the day.

Persian cat

These are quiet pets that are usually docile and prefer to cuddle rather than play or meow. They are independent, so they don’t need other animal neighbors to keep them happy. Persians are perfectly happy when people just watch them.

Singapura cat

Singapura cats are small and usually weigh less than 3.5 kg as adults. Some people think these cats are annoying because they are very curious and playful. Yes, Singapuras do not tend to doze off all day, like most cat breeds, but they do not like loud sounds, so they do not interfere with their owners.

Scottish Fold

The intelligent and curious Scottish Fold may have short or long hair, but it will always be silky and smooth. These cats vie for human attention and enjoy playing with other pets. They don’t like being left alone at home. The Scots are distinguished by their “silence” – such cats will not wake up their owners with their cries in the middle of the night.

Siberian cat

These magnificent cats have a soft semi-long coat and fluffy tail. They love being around people and are good with strangers. Siberian cats are very active and will happily play with any toy when the opportunity presents itself. These pets love to climb everywhere, which from time to time can lead to various troubles … Nevertheless, these are quite quiet animals that purr rather than meow.

American Curl

These cats are known for their crooked ears and kittenish personality that lasts throughout their lives. Alert and graceful, American Curls adapt easily to a variety of situations, making them ideal for large households that are active all day long. They do not like to use their voice to communicate, which means that they will not bother meowing.

Bengal cat

Despite the “silence”, the Bengal cat is curious and unpredictable. For example, she can easily jump into the bath while her owner is relaxing there, or stick her paw into the aquarium. These pets can be trained to walk on a leash for safe outdoor play and will happily curl up to watch a movie with their loved one on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Pixie Bob

This breed resembles a wild lynx, but fortunately they are much smaller. Pixibob gets along well with people, other animals, even with small children. Easily trainable breed, able to give a paw, bring things, walk on a leash. They practically do not communicate with the help of voice, but they know how to speak body language.

1.

Persian cat

The Persian cat belongs to the breed for home keeping. Therefore, it is not necessary to let her out on the street. Due to the peculiarities of the structure of the nasopharynx (flattened muzzle), it is difficult for the animal to maintain a comfortable body temperature in the heat and cope with high physical exertion

Persians are practically not interested in the outside world and lack the hunting instinct. A pet can play with teasers in the first year of life. But with the onset of growing up, he shows less and less interest in them, preferring to play actively on the owner’s lap or take a nap, stretched out on the couch.

2. Ragdoll

The Ragdoll is one of the largest cat breeds derived from the Persian type. However, unlike the progenitors, it has a softer and more accommodating character.

Cats accepted for breeding must be calm, relaxed and friendly to people.

According to breeders, a four-legged friend can literally hang on the owner’s arms, relaxing all the muscles. At this moment, the pet begins to look like a weak-willed rag doll, which is why it bears the name of the same name (eng. Ragdoll – “rag doll”).

3. Pixie Bob

Pixie Bob is a domestic cat with the appearance of a small lynx. However, despite the predatory appearance, the pet has a soft and sociable character, completely devoid of aggression.

Pixie-bobs behave like dogs. The animal will follow the owner everywhere, accept affection with gratitude and even communicate with him with his voice. At the same time, representatives of the breed are calm, delicate and non-conflict. Pixie-bobs get along well with children and other animals in the house and can even play outdoor games with them. But they will never show aggression and will not pretend to be the leader of the pack.

4. Birman cat

Birman cat is one of the most calm breeds, able to combine the phlegmatic nature of the Persians and the sociability of the representatives of the Siamese-oriental group.

The Burmese are equally fond of sitting on their master’s laps and chasing a toy across the floor. However, they do this only when he is not busy with anything and is ready to pay attention.

Burmese quickly adapt to the mood of the owner and his daily routine. Due to this, they do not create conflict situations and do not avenge insults.

When guests arrive, the cat kindly comes out to meet them. With the advent of a small child in the house, he becomes his friend and partner in the game.

5. Ragamuffin

Ragamuffin cats are bred on the basis of ragdoll and outbred. Therefore, they are presented in a wider palette of colors. But they retained all the same calm and balanced character inherent in their ancestors.

Representatives of the Ragamuffin breed are incredibly affectionate, obedient and trusting towards people. At the same time, they are completely devoid of the hunting instinct, and will rather hide from danger in a quiet secluded place than go on the offensive.

6. Selkirk Rex

The Selkirk Rex is one of the youngest breeds, created by crossing Persians, Exotics and British Shorthair cats. Therefore, it has a unique character that combines the restraint of the British, the gentle disposition of the Persians and the playfulness of the exotics.

Selkirk Rex are very attached to their family members and have a hard time being alone. But at the same time, they remain calm and balanced in stressful situations, practically do not make sounds and do not twist their legs in an attempt to attract attention.

7. Don Sphynx

Don Sphynx are calm and balanced cats that easily get along with both people and other pets in the house. But they can behave obsessively and require increased attention.

Sociable and absolutely devoid of aggression, cats constantly jump on their owner’s lap, climb into his bed and insistently demand affection.

To attract the attention of the owner, sphinxes can rub against his legs for hours or indicate their presence with their voice.

8. British Shorthair

The British Shorthair has a mature aristocratic disposition and can stay alone for a long time, keeping calm and tolerance. Cats left for the whole day in an empty house do not spoil things and do not take offense at the owner during a long absence.

Noticing this feature, the breeders even called the British cats for businessmen. However, it is also not worth considering representatives of the breed to be detached. The British are strongly attached to the owner. But they do not depend on his attention in the same way as other participants in this rating.

9. Exotic cat

Exotic cats are direct relatives of Persians. However, they have a more mobile and playful character and lack the signature Persian phlegm.

Exotics tolerate the arrival of guests, harsh sounds and big changes in the usual daily routine more calmly. For example, cats of an exotic breed are easier to adapt to a move or the appearance of a small child in the house. The main thing is to pay attention to exotics and indulge in new toys and treats.

10. Maine Coon

Maine Coon is one of the most popular breeds on the list. According to recent research, Maine Coons are among the top three most desirable breeds for apartment keeping, second only to cats of the British and Scottish breeds.

Maine Coons have a wonderful character, completely devoid of aggression and obsessive behavior. The pet will not curl at its feet and meow invitingly to attract attention, and will quickly adjust to the mood and temperament of the owner.

Today the Maine Coon is the largest cat that can be kept in families with small children. The pet will never scratch the kids in the game and will not hiss at a sloppy touch.

11. Siberian cat

Siberian cat combines independence and strong attachment to the owner and members of his family at the same time. Therefore, problems with obsessive behavior or excessive excitability will not arise.

Siberian cats are calm and affectionate pets with an incredible level of empathy. Representatives of the breed subtly feel the mood of a person, so they can be either playful and sociable, or reserved and a little distant.

The character of “Siberians” is often compared to that of a dog. Cats of this breed every day meet the owner from work or school at the doorstep and tend to spend as much time as possible with them, sitting on their laps.

12. Tonkinese

Tonkinese is a hybrid species derived from Thai and Burmese breeds. The breed inherited from the progenitors the mobility and curiosity of oriental cats. But she lost the habitual for the Siamese group propensity for vocalization.

Modern thin cats are sociable, but at the same time delicate and unobtrusive. The pet will follow the owner everywhere and it will be hard to experience his long absence. But he will rather refuse to give a voice and insistently demand attention to himself.

13.

Canadian Sphynx

The Canadian Sphynx belongs to the category of companion pets and resembles a dog in its behavior. Therefore, it would be wrong to deprive him of attention and leave him alone all day. The Sphynx needs constant company of a person or other animals in the house.

According to experts, representatives of the breed are perfect for families with children. Sphynx cats with passion are included in the game with the kids. And at the end of the day, they sit on their knees and fill the room with the sounds of melodic purring.

14. Manx cat (Manx)

Manx cats are friendly and cheerful cats with developed intellect and habits of a dog. Therefore, do not be surprised if the pet starts to follow you everywhere and even follow simple commands.

According to the owners, representatives of the breed can be easily trained to fetch or jump through the ring. At the same time, the animal will willingly accept affection, calmly sitting on your lap, or playing with small children.

features of working in American families and tips for successful employment

Nanny in the US is one of the most popular among Russian-speaking emigrants. Some do it because of their love for children, others because of the ease of employment, because for this, as a rule, you do not need to obtain a work permit or take special courses for nannies. People have different motives for such work, but almost everyone has one thing in common: usually nannies from the post-Soviet countries prefer to work in Russian-speaking families, where they can easily find a common language with both parents and children.

However, some women would like to try babysitting for an American family, all of whose members were born and raised in the USA. And in this case, they run the risk of encountering some unique features that are not found in working with Russian-speaking families. So in this article, let’s take a closer look at all these features so that they are not a surprise for future nannies.

What you need to know about the specifics of working as a nanny in English-speaking families in the USA?

Working as a nanny in American families has its own characteristics compared to working in Russian-speaking families in the United States. If you want to start working with English-speaking people, then you need to know about these features in advance. Below we will look at some of them.

English

And you need to start, of course, with knowledge of the English language. When studying with a child, spending a lot of time with him, you will simply need to find contact, and it will be impossible to do this without a language. In addition, parents are unlikely to want to hire a person who can only speak one language that is completely incomprehensible to them.

To better understand the situation, imagine yourself in the shoes of the child’s parents. Would you like to hire a nanny for your child, say, from Pakistan, who not only will not be able to understand you or the child normally, but also, God forbid, the child itself, due to spending a long time with such a nanny, will eventually begin to better understand someone else’s speech than native?

So you need to remember: knowledge of English at least at an intermediate level is the basis when you are trying to get a job with an American family. Exceptions may be in very rare cases. This is either if the parents save a lot and are ready to take any candidate, just to pay as little as possible, but it is unlikely that you yourself would like to work with such people. Or if one of the parents is ethnically Russian, Ukrainian, whom he himself moved with his parents to the United States, as a child, does not know his native language, but really wants to attach his child to his native roots. In theory, this situation is possible, but still unlikely.

Cultural Features and Traditions

Understanding what is and isn’t done and said in the American environment. I will give a banal, but quite probable example: in Russian-speaking countries, in ordinary life we can use the word “negro” in relation to black people, not trying to offend anyone with this word, but simply because many were taught from the school bench that this is how to call black people – This is fine. In the United States, this word cannot have a neutral character, since it is firmly glued to the country’s slaveholding period.

Now imagine that you accidentally used this word in front of a child who, due to his very young age, may later start using this word on the street or at school, considering this to be the norm. And in the end, this will create problems for both him and his parents.

Of course, you will probably not know all the cultural and linguistic features of Americans before you start working with English-speaking families, but this is quite normal. It is important to have a basic understanding of US language and culture, and the rest will come with experience.

And in order to make it a little easier for you at the very beginning, I dare to recommend that you do a few things that will give you some minimal understanding of American culture:

  1. Read American literature. The United States has given the world a huge amount of great works that everyone should read, and even more so a person who is going to work closely with the Americans. The compositions of the American classic John Steinbeck are ideal for this. If we draw parallels, then Steinbeck is the American Tolstoy or Sholokhov, who wrote mainly about the plight of the American working class. Reading Steinbeck is very easy and insanely interesting. Of all his works, I would like to single out the novel “Grapes of Wrath”, the story “About Mice and Men”, as well as “Russian Diary” – non-fiction, which Steinbeck wrote while on a trip to the post-war Soviet Union. This book will be of particular interest because in it the writer often compares the American and Soviet ways of life.

  2. Watch original American movies and TV series. It is better to choose not action movies or science fiction, but ordinary comedies, sitcoms or dramas. So you will begin to understand American life a little better, and also begin to understand how Americans communicate with each other, what slang expressions they use. I always recommend watching Friends. First, because you definitely won’t get bored. Secondly, all the characters on the show are young people who discuss the same problems that we all face – looking for work, washing clothes, building relationships, going on vacation. Watching how they communicate with each other, you will understand how you can communicate with the Americans. However, perhaps today it is already a little outdated, so you can choose something more modern.

Job Requirements

When looking for a job as a nanny for English-speaking families, you may find that the requirements of Americans are somewhat different from those of Russian-speaking residents of the United States. Let’s take a look at some of these differences.

First difference

The experience of their potential nanny is very important for Americans. While Russian-speaking families do not always require the candidate to have experience, limiting themselves only to the fact that the woman is hardworking and pleasant in communication, Americans almost always require the nanny to already have at least two, and preferably three years of work experience in the profession.

The good news is that you can lie or somehow “embellish” your resume with this experience by saying that you worked as a nanny in your home country. American employers will not be able to check this. Your main task then will be not to lose face at the interview and charm your future employers.

Second difference

Americans are more likely than Russian-speaking families to want a nanny to have a pet. For them, this, firstly, is a living example of the fact that you already constantly care about someone. And secondly, Americans themselves often get dogs or cats at home, and it is important for them that you know how to find contact with an animal and sometimes help them walk with a pet or feed it.

The Third Difference

For American families, sometimes it’s not enough just to see and talk to you at the interview. Sometimes they want to see a background check that would confirm your responsibility and the absence of violations of the law in the past. Therefore, sometimes babysitting agencies ask for SSN to do this check. However, this does not always happen, so you should not worry too much if you are going to work without documents.

Nanny in the USA: advantages and disadvantages of working in an American family

Of course, any job has its advantages and disadvantages. The babysitting profession is no exception. Below, let’s take a look at the positive and negative aspects of working with American families.

Nanny for a child: advantages of the profession

The first and most important thing is a reliable salary

In fact, although there is a myth that Americans usually pay nannies more than Russian speakers, this is actually not true. The average salary for a nanny in America ranges between $15 and $25 an hour. It doesn’t matter what language your employers speak.

Everything depends on the wealth of a particular family, as well as their willingness to adequately pay for your work. But the plus is something else. Americans are less likely to deceive their employees. This is not due to the fact that they are morally better than Russian-speaking people. Not at all. It’s just that among the Russian-speaking families there are many who once upon a time, just like you, moved to the United States, were in your place and understand that you are new in the country, do not yet know many local laws, do not know how to properly defend your rights, do not know where to complain, how to hire a lawyer. And some dishonest Russian speakers may want to take advantage of your ignorance.

Americans, on the other hand, have not experienced such hardships of moving, do not have such experience, and it often does not even occur to them that you may not know how to protect your rights. That is why working with Americans can sometimes be more reliable than with people from Eastern Europe.

The second is cultural integration

Another very significant advantage of working as a nanny in an English-speaking American family is the daily contact with the culture and traditions of the people of America.

Working and communicating with Russian speakers, you are unlikely to learn the peculiarities of American slang, as well as how they really celebrate in the USA, for example, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas or Halloween. However, all this and much more will be available to you when working with the Americans.

Disadvantages of working as a Russian-speaking nanny in an English-speaking family

Of course, the disadvantages of working as a nanny in an American family for someone can be all the features that I have already written about above. Someone does not know English, someone is not ready to put up with the American way of life in everyday life. I will not list all this again, so as not to waste your time.

At this point, perhaps, it is worth noting just one important shortcoming, which in any case will accompany you in such work – this is the distance from your own culture.

The fact is that by constantly working for Americans, communicating mainly with them, living everyday with the affairs and problems of people from a different culture, you will gradually become more and more like them: adopt their habits, sometimes even use various English words in their native speech, stop being interested in news from their homeland, becoming more and more interested in the life of Americans.

Of course, this doesn’t have to happen to you. It is possible that you will be in constant contact with fellow immigrants in the US, but maybe not. And here you need to ask yourself the question: do you want to penetrate so deeply into American culture that you eventually forget yours? Perhaps you still would like to live in the USA more, but continue to communicate with people from your own country? Maybe you want to read Pushkin’s fairy tales or Shevchenko’s poems to your child before bedtime more than the stories of Mark Twain?

Try to ask yourself this question in advance, even before you look for babysitting jobs and get a job with the Americans. And this, frankly, applies not only to those who would like to work as a nanny in an American family, but also to many others who get a job in some American company, go to study at an American university or start a family with an American or an American.

How to write a resume for a live-in babysitting job in the USA?

Let’s say that you weighed all the pros and cons of working as a nanny for the Americans, and came to the conclusion that at least you want to get such an experience. Then it’s time to start writing your resume. It must be remembered that this is the first and, perhaps, the most important step in finding such a job, which must be done correctly.

Here is a list of what you need to include in your resume:

  1. General information. Please provide your full name, contact details (phone and email) and residential address.

  2. Professional experience. Describe your experience as a nanny, starting with your most recent job. List the dates, family name, and ages of the children you have worked with. Describe your responsibilities and accomplishments. If you do not have such work experience, then it is better to lie and write that you have already worked as a nanny in your native country. The employer cannot verify this. Or, if you are too young to have had a similar experience, write that you cared for younger siblings. Anything will do. The main thing is to show that you already have a positive experience with children.

  3. Education and courses. List your education, including high school, college, or university, and any courses or training related to child care or development, if you have taken any. In order to be a nanny even without work experience in the USA, you do not need any education, but it is necessary to show that you are capable of learning, that you are a versatile and interesting person.

  4. Skills and qualities. List the skills and qualities that make you a good nanny candidate. These may include skills in caring for children of a certain age, the ability to play and interact with them, organizational skills and responsibility.

  5. Recommendations. Attach references from previous employers or parents you have worked with. Recommendations can confirm your professionalism and reliability in work.

This is how a babysitter resume looks like. Source: myperfectresume.com Also on this site you can find even more examples and make your own resume according to a specific template.

In addition to the above, I would recommend that you attach a cover letter that details your work experience, motivation, and why you are a good fit for an American family job. Below is an example of such a letter in English.

Where can I find a job as a nanny?

You have sorted out your resume, and now you are faced with the question of where to find a job as a nanny in the USA and publish your CV. And with this, the Internet will help you, first of all, and the classic offline search second (note: in English it sounds like “searching” and is translated into Russian as “search”). Here are some of these ways to find a job as a nanny in the United States.

Job boards and specialized web resources

There are job sites where you can find vacancies for nannies. Some of them include:

  • Care – This website is suitable for anyone who is looking for any job related to caring for someone. Through it, you can get a job as a nanny, a nurse for the elderly, an animal walker and many others. The main thing is that the work should be connected with looking after someone.

  • Sittercity – This resource is designed primarily for babysitters. The difference between such a person and a nanny lies in the fact that the babysitter does not constantly raise children most of the time of the day, but only looks after the child when the parents need to go somewhere or leave for several hours or days. Such work can be an excellent additional income, but also through this resource they are looking for nannies to take care of raising a child on an ongoing basis, so you can get a full-time job.

  • Nanny Lane is another site designed for those who are looking for a job as a nanny in major American cities. Very convenient and clear portal. You can choose in advance how you want to work: full-time or look after children only on certain days or hours.

  • BAZAR. club section “Nanny jobs in the USA” – on our resource you can mainly find jobs as a nanny in Russian-speaking and Ukrainian-speaking families, but sometimes vacancies are posted by people from mixed marriages, in which one of the parents speaks only English. These families need a bilingual nanny to help parents raise a bilingual child.

Nanny Agencies for American Families

These agencies typically provide services to parents who are looking for qualified and reliable nannies for their children. You, as a nanny, can use the services of one of these agencies to put you in touch with future employers. This is how nanny agencies work:

  1. Parents apply to the agency with a request to find a nanny. They may specify criteria such as the child’s age, work schedule, experience, language skills, and other requirements.

  2. The agency screens and matches parents with appropriate candidates. They can use their database, contact existing nannies, or search new platforms.

  3. The agency interviews potential nannies, checks their work experience, education, past jobs and certificates. Some agencies, as I wrote earlier, may do criminal background checks or other security checks.

  4. After evaluating candidates, the agency provides information about potential nannies to parents. They can provide resumes, background checks, letters of recommendation, and other information to help parents make their final hiring decision.

  5. If the parents are interested in one of the candidates, the agency helps to establish contact between the parents and the nanny. Parents can conduct a personal interview or meeting with the candidate to evaluate them in person.

  6. After the nanny gets a job, some agencies provide accompaniment and support to both the parents and the nanny. They can help with pay, contract, work schedules, and possible issues.

These agencies are usually paid by parents who are looking for a nanny for their child, so you don’t have to worry about spending anything and end up with nothing. () You should not contact those agencies that take money from the nannies themselves, and even in advance, before they find a job for them. It is highly likely that you have stumbled upon a scammer. Or you can wait a very long time for a suitable vacancy for you, since the agency has already received money from you and is no longer interested in prompt assistance to you.

Most reliable agencies either take a one-time fee from the parents or take a percentage of the nanny’s salary over a set period of time. I advise you to work only with such agencies. Below I will give examples of some of them.

  • TINY Treasures NYC is an agency based in New York but operates in all major US cities.

  • Westside Nannies is an agency from Los Angeles that, in addition to finding nannies, also helps with adoption and even with the search for surrogate mothers for future parents.

  • Chicago Nannies – Nanny agency in Chicago. Help with work on a permanent and temporary basis. They are also looking for jobs for housekeepers, home assistants and carers for the elderly.

Classic Media

Some families seek out a nanny directly through advertisements in local newspapers or on bulletin boards in shops and schools. Pay attention to such announcements and contact the parents if you are interested in the offer.

Recommendations from relatives and friends

Ask your friends, colleagues and parents with whom you have worked in the past about possible babysitting vacancies. Recommendations can be very helpful when looking for a similar job in the US.

Real stories about babysitting in the USA in American families

Also, before going to work as a babysitter in an American family, I recommend that you look and read the maximum number of stories of people who already have experience in such work. This will help you understand that all families are different and the situations that you can find yourself in can also be just an infinite number (both positive and negative). Fortunately, today social networks and video platforms allow each person to freely share their unique experience with other people.

For example, the girl Polina, who moved to New York from Belarus several years ago, spoke in a Youtube video about her personal pros and cons of working as a nanny in an American family:

You can not pay rent while living with a family and quickly save up your first money in the USA.

Polina’s very first experience was unsuccessful, she could not get along with her family. Only on the second attempt, Polina found a family with whom she could work together.

It is possible not to pay for housing while living with a family, and quickly save up the first money in the country.

As the girl says, not knowing English allows employers to reduce the wages of nannies, which they certainly take advantage of. That is, if you want to earn more, you need to know the language in advance.

You quickly learn the language, culture and way of life of the inhabitants of the States.

No matter how good your family treats you, living in someone else’s house is always a little uncomfortable. It is very difficult to get rid of the feeling that you can suddenly do something wrong.

It is very easy to find a job, no one demanded any documents from her. (note: Polina got a job through an unnamed Russian-speaking agency in Brighton).

Polina found this job when she was only 23 years old, and at such a young age she began to raise several children at once. This is another psychological problem when a young girl begins to feel like she is missing out on the best time of her life doing something she shouldn’t be doing right now.

I highly recommend that you watch as many of these videos as possible to better understand the real experience of people who are already working or have worked as a nanny.

Mistakes in work that nannies often make

Russian-speaking nannies working in American families can make some common mistakes. I have already mentioned some of them in one way or another, but it will not be superfluous to do it again:

  1. Misunderstanding of cultural differences.

Lack of understanding of American culture and certain customs can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts with parents. It is important to study and adapt to the mentality as well as the accepted way of life in the American family. This is especially important if you combine work with living in a family home.

  1. Insufficient knowledge of English.

Limited English proficiency can make it difficult to communicate with parents and children. Strive to constantly improve your language skills.

  1. Failure to set boundaries.

Some nannies may have trouble setting boundaries and following the rules set by their parents. It is important to follow their instructions and be flexible in working with the family.

  1. Insufficient communication.

Incorrect or insufficient communication with parents can lead to dissatisfaction and misunderstanding. Try to be open, considerate and honest in your communication.

  1. Not meeting expectations.

It is important to discuss and clarify employers’ expectations of you as a nanny in order to avoid disagreement and frustration in the process. Sometimes parents think that they hire not only a nanny, but also a housekeeper all rolled into one. You, in turn, may not want to clean the house every day and work in the kitchen, cooking for the whole family. You planned only to provide babysitting services, but no more. This point must be discussed in advance, clearly outlining your responsibilities.

Answers to frequently asked questions about babysitting

How much does a babysitter cost per hour?

Average salary is $15-25 per hour. It all depends on the state, city, your experience and the wealth of the particular family you work for.

Do I need to take additional training for nannies to work in an American family?

No, nannies are not required by US law to take any courses or receive special education for the job.

Do I need to have any document to become a nanny in the USA?

Desirable, but not required. The presence of SSN and Work Permit will never be a minus, but you can work from the first days of moving to the USA without having any documents with you.

And finally

Babysitting can be very interesting and lucrative for many immigrant women in the US. Working in an American family, you can get a stable and good income for living in America. You will also be able to plunge into the life of a real American family, find out how they live, establish good trusting relationships with family members and their friends. This can help you a lot in the future if you later want to leave your job as a nanny and get a job in an American company or start your own business.

However, one must remember that working for Americans and Russian speakers is not the same thing. There are a huge number of differences and small, but important, details that need to be considered when working in an English-speaking family. Evaluate and weigh them well before applying for such a job. And if you do it and realize that you can do it, or you have the strength to try, then go for it. Good luck!

Cat Nanny – Sir Cat

Cat Nanny

09July 2022

How often have you faced the problem of having no one to leave your pet with when you leave?

  • Animal does not need daily medication

  • Just in case, leave someone you know the keys to the apartment, so that in case of your longer absence, there will be someone to look after the animal.

Devon Rex

The Devon Rex is another curly-haired breed with a short coat. Kieger says these cats will develop a very tight bond with their owner, and they love attention. Of course, all that love will mean more hair, saliva and allergens on your clothes, so if you’re especially sensitive, consult your doctor.

Cat breeds that do not meow

The most calm and affectionate cat breeds: 15 friendly breeds

Below are the top 15 species with a balanced and friendly character, which are worth paying attention to first.

Content:

  • Persian cat
  • Ragdoll
  • Pixie Bob
  • Burmese
  • Ragamuffin
  • Selkirk Rex
  • Don Sphynx
  • British Shorthair
  • Exotic cat
  • Maine Coon
  • Siberian cat
  • Tonkinese
  • Canadian Sphynx
  • Manx cat (Manx)
  • Russian blue cat

1.

Educational Philosophy

The Early Education Center has been empowering children to learn and grow since 1988. Our philosophy is strongly rooted in the well-established principles of developmental play. Employing age appropriate developmental play creates an environment where children are free to laugh and learn while building their self confidence. Our approach ensures that children are exposed to a wide variety of learning opportunities and experiences.

Literature-based Approach

Exposing children to books at an early age is imperative to speech, language and cognitive development. That is why we focus on building early literacy skills with students of all ages – from our youngest infants to our graduating students five years of age.

NAEYC Accredited

The Early Education Center is accredited by the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children).

“The Early Education Center has been a wonderful experience for us- especially for my son. He comes home happy every day because his teachers really know what makes him special and they know how to work with his unique personality!  I could not ask for a better day care program.”
-SB from Poughkeepsie, NY; Parent

Our Mission

All who enter through our doors are respected and nurtured in an enriching, supportive environment by professional, experienced caregivers working together for the future of our children.

Nurturing the Whole Child

We believe every child is unique and special, each with individual interests and needs, and our teachers are experienced with identifying and utilizing these attributes to maximize educational opportunities as they occur. Children are cared for in a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment, allowing them to play and learn at their own pace. Children are encouraged to explore and manipulate their learning environment but are never forced to participate in any activity. This holistic, child-centered approach to development has been proven throughout the years.

Special Needs Preschool

Short-sighted parents are in no hurry, do not load their beloved child, thinking that the child will still have time for everything. But competent parents fill the tender age of the little man with interesting activities and events, timely preparing him for an independent full-fledged life.

In the center of early development “I’m growing up” classes are extremely differentiated by age. There are groups from 1 year to 3 years, from 3 to 4 years, from 4 to 5 years and 5 to 7 years. In these groups, as the child grows up, classes become more complicated from the elementary development of speech, perception, thinking, memory and imagination, to mathematics, logic games, grammar, reading and game English.

At the choice of the parents, the child can also take up music, dance, fine arts and recreational physical education. Here he will be taught painting on silk and reading.

On the recommendation of a pediatrician and a psychologist, sand therapy and fairy tale therapy are carried out.

In the center you can arrange a celebration of the child’s birthday, which he will remember for a long time. The choice is yours.

90,000 A funeral is like a picnic. aif.ru special correspondent from Hyde Park | In the world | politics

Queen Elizabeth II dies

Elena Chekina / AiF

Hundreds of stewards stand at the entrances to Hyde Park directing people to the huge screens that have been set up to broadcast the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II . There are almost no empty seats on the lawns – people have been taking places closer to the screens since early morning. They bring blankets, folding chairs, picnic baskets, thermoses of drinks, even tea sets.

“This is the biggest picnic Hyde Park has ever seen,” says a man sitting next to him. And he’s right, what’s happening really looks more like a mass picnic than a funeral. On either side of the screens, there are dozens of street food stalls. Here you can find food for every taste – hot dogs, fish and chips, burgers, vegetarian food, ice cream trucks, plates of fresh strawberries, caramelized nuts and much more.

Among the audience there are many families with children – from babies to teenagers, the former sleep peacefully in strollers, the latter record tik-toks and extort money from their parents for sweets. Judging by the reaction of the parents, today they will allow the children whatever they want.

Photo: AiF / Elena Chekina

Not far from them is a group of elderly gentlemen with orders and medals on their chests. They really wanted to go along with the procession, but at the last moment they preferred a broadcast in the park – here you can safely drink whiskey in memory of the Queen.

There are also dozens of dog lovers with their pets — they lie on the lawns and carefully watch what is happening, jumping up only when someone passes by with a hot dog or a burger.

In the morning it was overcast and a bit cool outside, but half an hour before the procession departed, the clouds dispersed and it became quite warm, so the clothes on the spectators are very different – some in T-shirts and barefoot stand in line for mojitos, others in high boots and down jackets choose hot coffee and tea.

At the end of the ceremony in Westminster Abbey, two minutes of silence are announced – everyone stands up and looks at the screens in complete silence. Immediately after, the national anthem of Great Britain begins to play, and everyone, even children, sings it in chorus. The ceremony ends with the words “The Queen leaves the abbey where she was crowned for the last time.”

The broadcast will continue for several more hours, showing both the funeral procession to Wellington Arch and the hearse’s journey to Windsor. Nobody is going to leave the lawn, on the contrary, people continue to come to Hyde Park and try to find a place for themselves at the screen. On the subway lines leading here, every couple of minutes they warn that the parks area is extremely busy and ask you to be ready to go around blocked roads and stand in line. The latter does not frighten or surprise anyone – the last few days the entire center of London has been doing nothing but standing in lines.

Philosophy – Reggio Inspired – Cathedral Oaks Preschool

OUR PHILOSOPHY ~ Reggio Emilia Inspired

To be a Young Child at Cathedral Oaks Preschool is to be truly heard.

Join Us in Discovering the Reggio Emilia Approach to Education

The Reggio Emilia approach focuses on fostering relationships among children, teachers, parents, and community. It builds on the premise that each child has the desire to connect with others, to engage in learning, and to enter into a relationship with his or her environment. An integral part of the approach is hands-on and minds-on exploration of materials and media.

Relationships are the core of our early childhood program. Children learn in a safe and secure environment. Through respectful observations and reflection, teachers plan meaningful explorations and activities.
The environment plays an important role in the children’s development. It is aesthetically pleasing and welcoming. Planning the environment thoughtfully and carefully inspires the children’s intellect, responds to their sense of wonder, and promotes a sense of belonging.

We are dedicated to the idea that all children are capable learners who need to be challenged by their school to learn and to be confident enough to take risks. Our goal is to bring out the special talents of each child and to allow them to realize their highest potential.

The Fundamentals of Reggio

The image of the child – the adults see each child as unique, strong, and full of potential.

The image of the teacher – the teacher is a partner in learning alongside the child carefully observing and documenting their ideas so that they can best provide the child with the tools and opportunities, respect, and the time they need to develop fully.

The image of the school environment – which is a teaching laboratory of creative spaces that motivate learning, engage curiosity, inspire creativity, emphasize small group work, support problem solving amongst peers, promotes social encounters and a child’s strong sense of self and security.

The hundred languages of children – there are a variety of ways that children communicate and represent their ideas, feelings, and creative selves. Children are encouraged to use many different mediums and materials for expression and exploration. They are provided with a variety of art media, including paint, clay, wire, collage and photography as well as musical instruments, construction materials, props for dramatic play, and writing materials.

The Project Approach – (In depth studies of concepts, ideas, and interests) Children learn best when they are actively exploring a question of their own choosing especially when this process includes interacting with other people. Our curriculum emerges from these children’s interests and investigations. There is a collaboration of ideas between the children and teachers. They work together to formulate a hypothesis of a project, decide on the materials needed, and possible parent/community support. The children are given opportunities to represent their ideas and emotions through the many languages of learning, such as cognitive, communicative, logical, imaginative, and creative. Projects allow the children the opportunity to apply basic skills in meaningful ways, as well as a chance to develop new skills. This natural approach to education also cultivates social competence, encourages physical development, and fosters a child’s sense of self worth. Since the projects are not preplanned, they can last days, weeks, and months, depending on the interest of the children.

The Reggio Approach: Bringing Learning to Life

The Hundred Languages of Children
The child is made of one hundred
The child has a hundred languages
a hundred hands
a hundred thoughts
a hundred ways of thinking, of playing, of speaking
a hundred, always a hundred ways of listening, of marveling, of loving
a hundred joys for singing and understanding
a hundred worlds to discover
a hundred worlds to invent
a hundred worlds to dream

The child has a hundred languages (and a hundred hundred hundred more)
but they steal ninety-nine
the school and the culture separate the head from the body

They tell the child to think without hands
to do without head to listen
and not speak to understand
without joy to love
and marvel only at Easter and Christmas

They tell the child to discover the world already there
and of the hundred they steal ninety-nine

They tell the child that work and play, reality and imagination, sky and earth,
reason and dreams are things that do not belong together

And thus, they tell the child that the hundred is not there
The child says: No way, the hundred is there!

Loris Malaguzzi – (the founder of the Reggio Approach to Education)

History & Mission – Cathedral Oaks Preschool

The Cathedral Oaks Children’s Center staff brings you a warm welcome and is glad that you have chosen to learn more about our program and how we strive to meet your developing child’s needs. We like to think our preschool as an extended home environment where children are accepted and loved, a place where laughter and play is cherished, where learning is inspired by wonder, skills are achieved through exploration, and knowledge is attained through discovery.

Our doors opened in the summer of 1981. The uniqueness of our original school is that it is housed in a 100+ year old historical landmark, the original one room school for the area, which is located on two beautiful acres in the foothills of Santa Barbara and surrounded by beautiful pepper trees.

We are pleased to announce that we now have two schools to serve our community.

COCC – Our main campus is nestled among beautiful mature oak and pepper trees in what was formerly a historic 145-year-old schoolhouse. We are licensed for 60 students, and our school is divided into five classrooms by the age of our children.

Hilltop – Our toddler campus is located within the SB County Education Office and also has a beautiful nature-based learning environment. We have one classroom with two groups for a total of 18 children.

We are a community of children, teachers, and parent committed to supporting each other in raising creative, loving children who know their immeasurable worth and are able to utilize their gifts and potential.

The innovative curriculum used at Cathedral Oaks Children’s Center is based on the most current research in child development. We are particularly influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to learning.

“Education is not a preparation of life, Education is life itself.”

John Dewey (1859-1952) American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer and a preeminent voice of American educational philosophy.

Our Mission Statement
To maintain a nature-based, high-quality early learning program, utilizing best practices to create an environment where children and teachers are respected, valued and develop a love of learning. We are committed to conserving our resources, reducing our footprint on our planet, and encouraging children and our community to use ecologically sound principles to include both nature and environment in our curriculum.

Our Core Purpose
To develop and maintain a high-quality early childhood program based on current research, utilizing developmentally appropriate practices as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

To provide a safe and nurturing environment where children develop a love for learning, where parents gain knowledge about young children and where the teachers are encouraged to continue gaining education as professionals in this field.

To provide a place where children, families and staff are supported, valued and accepted as contributing community members with the same goal; providing the best education for our children.

To provide a program that is committed to respecting our resources, reducing our footprint on the planet and encouraging children to use ecologically sound principles both inside and outside the school.

To provide a program that includes both nature and the environment in its curriculum. A place where children are encouraged to take note of the plant and animal life that surrounds them and to treat them with respect.

Children at an arts-based curriculum make with their hands, learn from staff and peers and take their creations from inception to finish. Through this engagement with the arts, students will develop a unique bend of social, emotional, motor and intellectual skills that will serve them well as they transition to more academic-based environments in the future.

The most interesting events in the city.

A day in Gorky Park: things to do with children, what to see, where to eat

On the territory of Krymsky Val, on the banks of the Moskva River, there is Gorky Park – the main park in Moscow and a favorite place for walking and picnics. What to do in Gorky Park? The territory includes Pushkinskaya Embankment and Neskuchny Garden, which turns into Sparrow Hills.

These are areas for recreation, dancing, sporting events and outdoor games. You can endlessly admire the ponds and fountains during the daytime, and in the evening, after a walk, relax at an open-air film screening. Here you will find various attractions and playgrounds. You can go to the Museum of Modern Art, swim on a catamaran, dance salsa, have a tasty meal and just have a good time.

What else you can see in Gorky Park in Moscow, we tell together with experts from the Maxima Hotels chain.

Educational activities

There is a multidisciplinary education center of the capital, where we recommend:

  • Try yourself as a speaker in “Speakers Club” .

  • Visit workstation , where master classes and lectures are held on a variety of topics – design, business, art, IT technologies, marketing.

  • On the territory of the Museum of Contemporary Art “Garage” courses are held in art history, painting and music, animation and photography, as well as art therapy.

  • In Lecture Hall at the Main Entrance lectures on travel and English are organized.

  • Cinema “Pioneer” has become a center where meetings with artists and directors are held.

  • Educational pavilion “School” includes a creative center for children. During the summer, there will be an open-air summer cinema.

Green School

The Green School is a kind of city dacha in the center of Moscow. Guests can learn a lot of interesting things in the field of gardening and natural history.

Master classes are held for schoolchildren, where children develop their creative abilities and learn to take care of nature. Practical knowledge will be useful for a greenhouse, where you can take care of plants all year round and receive a reward for your work – a real harvest. If you are looking for something interesting in Gorky Park for children and parents, then the Green School is a worthy pastime option.

Walks with history

The park contains historical architectural monuments and iconic buildings of the last century, alleys, fountains and bridges. Go on a boat trip from the pier on Pushkinskaya Embankment or join an excursion to learn the secrets of the Andreevsky Monastery and the myths of the Neskuchny Garden, as well as get acquainted with the most beautiful landscapes.

There are several routes for this:

  • About the living history of the park;

  • About the legends of the Neskuchny Garden;

  • Exhibition of samples of captured weapons from the times of the Great Patriotic War;

  • Love in the park.

Andreevsky Monastery and the ancient temple of the Life-Giving Trinity are a historical landmark. Sculptures reflecting different periods of the development of the state in the past are installed in the Muzeon Park of Arts. A branch of the Tretyakov Gallery, the New Tretyakov Gallery, was opened.

The largest number of historical objects are located in the former estate “Neskuchnoye” – a bathroom and a summer house, a cascading fountain, a grotto and stone bridges. In this part of the park there is the oldest building – the Hunting Lodge from the time of Prince Trubetskoy.

Exhibitions

The exhibition “VDOKH” presents art objects by contemporary artists who create an unusual experience of interaction with the outside world.

At the Main entrance, on the second floor, there is an exposition “Gorky Park: The Beginning” with unique exhibitions. There is also an observation deck with a view of the park and the Muzeon, a photo exhibition and exhibits dedicated to the history of creation.

Lectures in Gorky Park

Today it is a place where you can escape from the bustle of the city and problems. To do this, a new infrastructure and spaces have been created here that shape consciousness from a very early age:

  • There is a chess club;

  • Conducted educational programs;

  • Lectures are given by leading specialists of the Higher School of Economics and museum workers;

  • Hiking and cycling tours are organised.

For fun

Entertainment in Gorky Park for children and adults is very diverse:

  • fitness classes, yoga, modern ballroom dancing are held in the gyms;

  • equipped with courts and a football field, as well as sports grounds for ping-pong;

  • there are quest companies for children and adults, where visitors can explore hidden places, look for objects hidden in the park, solve puzzles and ciphers;

  • soft leather lawns, bike paths where you can ride roller skates and bikes without fear of public transport;

  • Winter artificial skating rink is a popular playground in Gorky Park for children, teenagers and adults all year round;

  • Hyde Park on Pushkinskaya Embankment, where concerts and public events are held;

There is an opportunity to hold birthdays, graduation parties, meetings of classmates. Those who prefer a relaxing holiday can use the free Internet.

Salyut site

Another recommendation for those who are interested in what is in Gorky Park for children. To the left of the entrance, next to Pionersky Pond, there is the Salyut playground, Moscow’s top playground for adults and children, where 9play areas. It is possible to play for children with disabilities.

  • Complex “Towers” – a climbing area with bridges and nets for children over 7 years old.

  • Space “Seabed” for playing with sand.

  • Location “Mobile Constructor”.

  • A unique, unparalleled complex in the world “Megakachel” with different types of rotation and swing.

  • “Water station” – a playground for playing with water.

  • “Kaleidoscope” is a playground for games with color and light.

  • “Glade Toddlers” is a zone for the little ones.

  • Location “Ravage” with slides and a climbing wall.

  • Space “Dreamcatcher” with original hanging stands.

Catamaran riding

Golitsynsky Pond includes two reservoirs – a large one and a smaller one. A bridge rises above the narrow channel between them. Hence the name – Golitsyn Ponds. There are two rental points for catamarans. During the walk you can meet ducks and swans. The routes are laid out with the expectation not to disturb the birds, but to make beautiful photos.
Payment depends on the rental period. The amount for the second and each subsequent hour is half the original.

Fountains

The park has many musical fountains and sculptural complexes:

  • The famous Figured Fountain at the main entrance to the park, built in 1954, has undergone several renovations. Today the fountain is light-musical, sings and dances several times a day. The show is accompanied by lighting effects.

  • Roman-style fountain with bowls where the water falls beautifully from one level to another.

  • The cascading fountain in the Neskuchny Garden is one of the most spectacular, with a grotto and a pool.

  • Sports fountain with a sculpture of a girl on a log.

  • The most poetic fountain, with a statue of a girl with a jug.

  • A dry fountain, there is no pool here, and the jets seem to beat from the ground.

Scooters

There are areas for active recreation for visitors – there are rental points for electric scooters, bicycles, roller skates and velomobiles.
There is a special road along which you can drive to the Sparrow Hills. The proposed models of scooters do not accelerate over 25 km per hour. There is a free scooter management school.

Regardless of what you decide to see with your children in Gorky Park, a joint trip on electric scooters will simplify your task and save time.

Those wishing to have a snack

You can eat delicious food in the park. For this, there are pavilions and stalls, cafes and restaurants, as well as fast food chains and ice cream eateries.

When planning a business trip to Moscow or a leisure trip, consider accommodation in any of the hotels of the Maxima Hotels chain. Maxim Zarya and Maxim Irbis hotels have a convenient location near Okruzhnaya and Vladykino metro stations. Maxima Slavia is located 15 minutes by transport from VDNKh, and Maxima Panorama is 1 minute from Avtozavodskaya metro station. If it is more convenient for you to stay close to the airport, then right on the territory of Domodedovo Airport is a modern and comfortable hotel Maxima Domodedovo.

  • Carol Dweck’s groundbreaking work on the elements of a growth mindset

Every project and activity sets children up to do three things:

  1. Build their innovator’s mindset —practicing things like being visionary, collaborative and determined
  2. Work through an iterative design process that includes creating, testing, failing and redesigning, until the goal is achieved
  3. Learn something new

The Result

Students come home with more than just cool projects—they take with them the critical thinking, collaboration and creativity skills that they need for success in school and that are increasingly required in the job market.

My granddaughter came all inspired after the spring shift in this Camp, if earlier she had to devote a lot of time to lessons, now she is trying to go to another shift. I think this is a good result.

Amazing camp! Full delight! 🙂 My daughter called us every evening, happy, joyful, enthusiastically telling us how her day went. She liked EVERYTHING! Despite the fact that the daughter is not a particularly “camp” child, there is a sad experience when, while in another camp, on the second day she called me with the words “take me home, I’m bored here !!!” In addition, she is quite shy, does not like performing on stage, and avoids increased attention to herself. Therefore, we had reason to doubt the decision to send it to you. But what a great turn out! As far as I know, every day there were new events in the camp, including skits, and my daughter participated in everything with pleasure! You are great fellows!! You can find an approach to any child, thank you very much for that! During the whole shift, I heard only two complaints from her: that she does not have time to read a book and that she is forced to wear a scarf while walking))) Needless to say, even these small complaints are in your favor, even they talk about how awesome you are! :))) See you in a year! – there is no doubt that we will come to you again! . .

The child arrived delighted. I enjoyed working with teachers. Language learning is presented in a playful way, which does not allow children to feel like they are in boring lessons at school. Thanks to the English language program, my child was able to improve his English to a decent level for her age. At the end of the shift, a certificate is issued, which is also a definite plus. From the first days of your stay in the camp, the camp leaders and staff did everything to make the atmosphere in the camp friendly and relaxed. The children were constantly engaged, various master classes were held, every day there was a pool. It is also worth noting the excellent food in the camp, the child is very happy, everything was very tasty and varied, a large selection of dishes was provided. Throughout the shift, photographs and small videos were published in groups, there was constant information support, thanks to which the presence of parents in the camp life of children was felt.

  • Specially designed language teaching methods for EF camps combine interactive group lessons, hands-on activities and work with academic textbooks.
  • Textbooks are selected individually for each target group, taking into account the age and level of linguistic knowledge of students, as well as the duration of the educational program.

Organized learning

  • Summer language camp for students involves a clear organization of the educational process. Each day of the student is planned in detail and includes different formats of employment – from classical lessons to group excursions.
  • This approach contributes to the easy and effective memorization of new material.

Active immersion in the language environment

  • A summer camp abroad allows you to feel the atmosphere of a foreign language environment as much as possible.
  • Abroad, students communicate daily with native speakers: in class, in shops, on excursions. Such intensive practice allows you to reach a qualitatively new level of foreign language proficiency in a short time.

Professional teachers

  • A language camp abroad gives you the opportunity to study with interested and involved teachers who are able to find an approach to each student.
  • Thanks to their extensive teaching experience, our specialists know how to help a student not only learn, but also fall in love with a foreign language.

Confirmation of knowledge

  • After completing the language camp for students, each student receives a certificate of completion of the educational program.
  • The certificate is supplemented by a report on the student’s progress in all disciplines studied.

Global support

  • Language camps abroad for children, students and teenagers are a guarantee of comfortable learning accompanied by experienced coordinators.
  • Coordinators provide interesting and useful leisure time outside of classes, help solve all organizational issues and make sure that each student feels as comfortable as possible in the camp.
