Nearly a Thousand COVID-19 Cases Reported in California Day Cares – NBC Bay Area
It’s the phone call that child care facilities have been dreading since the pandemic began. Two siblings who attended Early Horizons in Sunnyvale had tested positive for COVID-19.
“They didn’t have any symptoms,” said Antonio Labrador, the director of the center. The kids’ parents felt some symptoms on June 24 but dropped their children off at the day care anyway.
When they felt sick the next day, June 25, the whole family got tested. Everyone was positive for the coronavirus. That meant that the kids could have been spreading the virus at the center as they played with other children the previous day.
This was personal for Labrador. He and his wife had a baby in February, and their newborn was also at Early Horizons. He stepped into emergency mode.
“What do we need to do to make sure everyone stays safe and it’s not spreading,” he said. He and his team decided to close the center immediately.
“We did require all our parents and kids to have a negative result by July 8th or later in order for them to return,” said Early Horizons Child Care Director Antonio Labrador, after two children at the center tested postive for COVID-19 in late June. (NBC Bay Area July 12, 2020)
“We shut down the school house, called parents, had them come pick up their children and shut the school down,” said Labrador.
That was June 26, two days after the potential exposure. After more than two weeks of quarantine, there have been no new infections that they know of – and Early Horizons reopened on Monday.
“We have it set
up right now where if you do have a case in a classroom, we wouldn’t need to
shut down the whole center,” said Labrador.
The Investigative Unit has obtained new data Wednesday that shows 998 positive cases of the virus at child care facilities across California in the four months between March 11 and July 12.
The cases are up 12% since last week, according to California’s Department of Social Services, which recently started compiling the cases at child care facilities and will continue posting weekly on its website, along with resources and guidelines for child care businesses.
Scott Murray, Deputy Director of Public Affairs for DSS points out that the 998 positive COVID-19 cases represent child care staff, children attending the centers, and their parents, across more than 38,000 child care facilities in the state.
In fact, parents and staff made up most of the COVID-19 cases documented at day cares. At larger child care centers, only 18% of the cases were kids, 45% were staff and 31% were parents (5% is categorized as “other”). At family-owned child care homes, children made up an even smaller percentage. They reflected 17% of the cases while parents reflected 37% and staff 22%.
By county, Los Angeles tops the list with 170 cases. It has, by far, the most facilities open during this pandemic. In the Bay Area, Santa Clara County had 28 cases. Alameda County had 19, Contra Costa 14, Marin 13 And Solano 11.
Every child care service NBC Bay Area interviewed for this story described a “cohort system” by which kids are limited to a small group of 10 to 12 children. Parents are barred from entering the facility or the home. There are mandatory temperature checks at the door, and questions to make sure neither the parents, their kids, nor anyone in the home has been exposed to the coronavirus.
At one center, Kindercare, there’s a new app so that parents can see videos and photos of their kids throughout the day.
The pandemic is shining a light on something we’ve known forever – that child care is essential,” said Susan Gilmore, CEO of North Bay Children’s Center. (NBC Bay Area, June 30, 2020)
Despite the vastly increased safety measures, North Bay Children’s Center had its own COVID-19 scare.
“We were notified by the health department, by public health, that two children in our toddler program who are related tested positive for COVID through contact tracing,” said Susan Gilmore, the center’s CEO, adding, “these are kids that never would have been tested. They were asymptomatic, went through the check-in every morning, taking their temperature.”
The parents of the two kids reported that the children had been exposed to COVID-19 by an aunt who contracted the virus. “We shut down that cohort, that classroom,” said Gilmore, “So all 10 children were tested – all the teachers were tested. “.
“I do worry about it,” said Liz Levatino, who drops her child off at an Oakland day care. Levatino and her husband both have full time jobs. “You’re faced with an impossible choice like your livelihood or your child,” said Levatino.
“It has been wonderful having child care back,” said Liz Levatino, after she and her husband juggled 12-hour work shifts and caring for their toddler during the lockdown.” (NBC Bay Area, July 8, 2020)
“It’s a very valid concern,” said Labrador, the Early Horizon’s Director, after the center deep cleaned and sanitized its facility.
“We do have a
consent forms for parents to sign that they know the risk. But I mean, just
make sure the centers are doing everything possible just to make sure they’re
not spreading,” he said.
Child care providers tell NBC Bay Area they’re struggling to keep up with changing guidelines as they try their best to keep kids safe.
One rule from the CDC requires child care workers to change all of a child’s clothing each time they cry – and then change their own shirt as well. State guidelines require kids to nap in cots that are six feet apart at nap time while arranging cots feet to head alternately. The logistics of that are a challenge for many child care providers, especially the smaller home services.
“We’re building the plane as we’re flying it,” said Philip Mayard, Marketing Director for the Children’s Council of San Francisco. Mayard said that under normal circumstances about 1,000 licensed child care sites operate in San Francisco but that number dropped to 150 sites from mid-March through the end of April.
“The child care landscape is much more optimistic right now than it was six weeks ago,” said Mayard. Right now, there are 601 child care sites open in the city, 470 home-based locations and 131 centers. Of the facilities that are open now, many told NBC Bay Area that they’re operating at less than half of their capacity to accommodate social distancing.
For availability of child care statewide, the Department of Social Services has an interactive map that shows available services by zip code: covid19. ca.gov/childcare
DSS also refers parents seeking child care to the California Child Care Resource & Referral Network: rrnetwork.org/family-services/find-child-care
And
the Children’s Council of San Francisco has an online help center where parents
can search for what’s available in San Francisco: https://childrenscouncil.zendesk.com.
15 facts about American kindergartens: elenpr — LiveJournal
Hello friends.
Today – a few moments about American kindergartens. I will leave all my ahas and sighs behind the scenes, because since I took my child to such a place, I will “love and accept” him …
1. In America, kindergartens are called “day care” or “child care”. Infant crèches – “nursery”. The word “kindergarden”, which we memorized in Russia, is here called the zero grade of the school, where children begin to go from the age of 5. nine0003
2. Kindergartens here are very different. Mostly private. There are specialized ones – Waldorf, Montessori, etc. A lot of gardens are organized at churches. There are also small, “family” ones – when an experienced mother takes three, four, five children to her home. By the way, the activities of any kindergarten, even “home” must be licensed.
“Average” American kindergartens
3. Children are “accepted” to kindergartens from 6 weeks. Incidentally, official maternity leave in the United States lasts only 12 weeks, and is not paid by the employer. Unless the insurance will cover it. America is a country of capitalism. Although, how do you agree with the employer …
4. An interesting observation: kindergartens are most often built near the road – for the convenience of working parents.
5. a) The cost of orchards depends on many factors – location, specialization, promotion, availability of feeding, etc. You can find cheaper – dollars for 600-800 per month. There are super expensive ones too. On average, a kindergarten costs somewhere between 1000-1400 dollars a month. And this, by the way, is not the most expensive “option”. Hiring a nanny or babysitter will be much more expensive.
5. b) More about money. There is such a thing as an initial payment (initial registration fee). It is paid when parents want to “take” a place in a particular kindergarten – for example, for paperwork. In our garden, it is somewhere around $125 (in 2018). If, for example, there are no places in a particular garden at the moment, then parents will have to wait. Maybe a month, maybe six months – whoever is lucky. We waited half a year to get into a group for children under 2 years old. nine0003
And there is also an annual fee (annual registration fee) – to save a place for the baby for the next year – about $ 100.
6. Absenteeism. There is no strict regime in the kindergarten, no one will require a certificate of the reason for “truancy”, as is the case in schools. If the child is ill, it is enough just to call and warn the management that the baby will not come. But you still have to pay for this time, even if the child has been ill for a week, or even two…
this period (depending on the policy of the kindergarten). In our garden, it is allowed to take 2 weeks of vacation per year – they are paid at half the rate. nine0003
8. In summer, some gardens are closed for holidays, but in the “standard” kindergartens there is a “summer camp” option. True, for it you need to pay a one-time extra about $ 100 (depending on the kindergarten). The money will be spent on summer entertainment for the kids: clown, T-shirts, excursions, ice cream… The coolest moment is that the child can be taken away for the whole summer and sent to her grandmother (if any). Pay the kindergarten an annual fee – and until the fall the parents do not owe the garden anything. A significant amount is saved, you know…
9. Each group has at least 2 teachers. Below I have written the names of the groups using the example of our kindergarten (they may vary slightly), as well as the age and number of children in them.
Infant – 3 weeks to 1 year – 8 people.
Toddler – 1-2 years old – 10 people
Discovery preschool – 2-3 years – 12 people
Preschool – 3-4 years old – 20-25 people
Prekindergarten (PreK) – 4-5 years old – 20-25 people
Kindergarten – 5-6 years old – 20-25 people nine0030
Preschool group. There is only one room – they sleep, play and eat in it. Groups for younger kids are smaller.
10. Every year the child moves from one group to another. Right in the literal sense – changes the room and teachers. And friends at the same time. This was done, most likely, so that children from the cradle mastered the art of communication.
11. To the question of nutrition. In some gardens, it is customary to bring your own food. In other children, they still feed. For breakfast, they can give breakfast cereals with milk, for lunch – pizza, burger, macaroni and cheese. For an afternoon snack – snacks, yogurt. In our kindergarten, children are fed with berries and vegetables. Nikitos loved broccoli. oh how! nine0003 Weekly menu example
12. Daytime sleep – nap-time. They don’t bother with him either. In some kindergartens, small mattresses are simply spread on the floor. In others, sleeping bags brought by their parents. In our garden there is something like a crib (cot), I call it “trough”. A diaper is laid on top. Blanket – your own, from home. And, of course, the kids sleep in clothes and shoes. I already mentioned this in one of my posts. Sleep is about 2-2.5 hours. If one of the children does not want to sleep, he can lie quietly in the crib. In our garden there is a special honors board, where each child who behaved well during sleep is given an asterisk. If you accumulate some, they will give you a prize. Such is the motivation. nine0003 Stacked cribs
13. Walks. There is such an option. Only in our kindergarten it will be at least 2 times a day for half an hour, if the weather is lucky. Because there are only 2 playgrounds for all groups: for kids under 3 years old and for those who are older. In general, with walks in kindergartens, as I understand it, they don’t bother much. Although there are fancy gardens where children have free access to the playground: if you want, you go.
14. In many average kindergartens, children learn a second language. Most often it is Spanish – it is considered the second most common in America. I can’t wait until Nikitos speaks… 😊
15. Teachers also write reports on the topic “how was the child’s day”. Reports are sent to parents by e-mail or simply placed in individual folders, which is for each child. By the way, all notices for parents, as well as crafts for children, are placed in such folders.
Actually, that’s all I wanted to tell you about kindergartens. If you have questions – write. Maybe I’ll remember.
Kindergarten teachers in California hosted a trance party for toddlers
On the eve of the election, Joe Biden is no less willing to give interviews on the topic of LGBT. In relation to non-traditional orientation and gender reassignment, the president is as liberal as possible. True, in some states his message is taken too literally. In California, kindergarten teachers organized a trance party for kids: boys play the role of girls, and they, in turn, vice versa. Moreover, one of the sponsors of the event was a gender reassignment clinic.
And after a whole series of similar incidents, as Anna Voropay became convinced, the mutual love of Biden and the gay community can deprive the Democratic Party of the chances of winning the upcoming elections to Congress. nine0003
American parents are shocked. Unfortunately, already familiar. Their children were invited to come to the dress-up party. It would seem like an ordinary masquerade, if not for one condition. You need to transform into persons of the opposite sex.
“Our message is very simple. Stop sexualizing our children. We don’t want a strip show, we don’t want a drag show. There is no need to send out such invitations in our area, ” is outraged by Carrie’s parent Prejean Boller.
Dozens of outraged dads and moms gathered outside the San Diego school district office in California. They are frightened that the invitations were sent out by official representatives of educational institutions. nine0003
“The school board broke their own rules. They must not spread anything indecent, nothing political, nothing controversial. But these are invitations to a party sponsored by a gender reassignment clinic and a gay club in San Diego!” – doesn’t hold back Brittany Meyer’s emotions.
A heated debate about the acceptability of children’s books with sexual themes in libraries erupted in one of the school boards in Michigan. Representatives of the Muslim community were sharply opposed. nine0003
“A normal person would say that this material is too explicit for children.”
“Criticism of material that should be subject to age restrictions is not an attack on the LGBT community.”
There is a scandal in Connecticut with similar overtones.

Online project “School of Little Pianists”
“School of Little Pianists” is an advanced training course for piano teachers working with children of preschool age, as well as heads of methodological and educational departments of children’s art schools and children’s music schools in the cities of presence of Rosatom State Corporation, developed by experienced teacher Alexandra Leonidovna Bolshova.
The types of work she offers are based on proven methods, the richest traditions of the Russian and Soviet piano school of solo performance, and are very productive in the implementation of the pre-professional curriculum at the Children’s Art School and Children’s Music School. nine0003
The purpose of the course is to share theoretical knowledge and practical skills of teaching children from one and a half years old in the field of piano performance; identification of gifted children in the field of musical performance on the piano and preparing them for further admission to institutions of secondary vocational education.
The objectives of the course are:
– Preservation of the traditions of the Russian school in the field of piano performance. Implementation and dissemination of methods for early education of children in the field of piano performance on the basis of children’s music schools and children’s art schools in the cities where Rosatom operates; nine0003
– development of musical abilities: hearing, rhythm, memory, musicality and artistry in very young children;
– mastering musical literacy by children, mastering the performing skills of playing the piano, allowing the youngest students to competently perform a piece of music both solo and in an ensemble, as well as perform accompaniment;
– acquisition of the first experience of public speaking by children;
– formation of motivation among the most gifted children to continue serious education in the pre-professional programs of children’s music schools and children’s art schools in the cities where Rosatom has a presence. nine0003
The first season of classes took place during the 2021-2022 academic year. The “School of Little Pianists” webinars included information-theoretical classes, discussions and practical work on age groups. During the webinars, A.L. Bolshova shared her own extensive experience in working with students from 1.5 to 7 years old and showed examples of lessons directly with her students studying at the piano department.
The second half of the 2021-2022 academic year was devoted to working on master classes. The participants of the classes – teachers of music schools and art schools – presented their wards and their current level of performance training to their colleagues both in the recording and in the online connection format. The results of the first season of the project were summed up at full-time master classes and as part of the final concert in the city of Zarechny, Penza Region, in May 2022.
At the end of the first season of the project, the teachers who participated in the “School of Little Pianists” project, together with their students, received the appropriate certificates. And the opportunity to excel and take part in the joint full-time concert of the project has become a great incentive for the creative development of young musicians.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, the second season of the School of Little Pianists project will take place. nine0003

Application for parental leave – form and sample
Application for parental leave allows the applicant to claim the allowances and compensations due to such an event. Our material will help you quickly and without hassle to draw up this document.
Who can apply?
The most common cases when a baby is born include the application for parental leave by the mother. For many decades in their native country, only mothers of newborns could qualify for this type of vacation.
This form of legal absenteeism is now available to many. Not only the legal father of a newborn, but also a person who is not formally connected with the baby’s mother can write an application for parental leave. The guardians of the baby, his grandmother or other relatives can also look after the baby while on “children’s” leave.
IMPORTANT! Art. 256 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.
An employee who is on leave to care for a child up to 1.5 years of age is entitled to receive a monthly allowance for the care of a child up to 1.5 years of age.
What additional payments are due to a working mother caring for a child up to 1. 5 years old, ConsultantPlus experts told. Get a free trial access to the legal system and find out if you qualify for these payments.
To apply for a benefit, along with an application for parental leave, an employee must receive an application for the grant of benefits, drawn up in accordance with the form approved by the FSS of the Russian Federation, and information about the insured person, if you have not received them before. The application is drawn up on a form approved by order of the FSS of the Russian Federation of 04/08/2022 No. 119.
The employee provides the employer with other papers noted in paragraph 56 of the order of the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation of September 29, 2020 No. 668n. They need to be transferred to the SFR (Social Fund of Russia – from 01/01/2023, an updated fund that combined the FSS and the PFR) and the fund itself will appoint and begin to pay benefits. He will receive additional information within the framework of interagency cooperation.
An order for the appointment of a monthly allowance for the care of a child up to 1.5 years old is not necessary.
Hint from ConsultantPlus: The list of documents (their copies) that must be submitted for the employee to receive benefits and other payments depends on the type of payment. List of documents for each of the benefits, incl. benefits for caring for a child up to 1.5 years old, you will find in ConsultantPlus. You can get a trial access to the system for free.

Can Cats Eat Granola? Is It Good For Cats? (Quick Answer)
Home » Cats » Food » Can Cats Have Granola as a Treat?
Last Updated on by David Fields
In this article, we will explain everything you need to know about cats and granola.
The short answer is that cats can eat granola, but probably should not. If your cat accidentally gets some granola, you should be fine (unless the cereal contains a toxin, such as raisins, in it). However, for the most part, stick to cat food and meat-based food for your little carnivore!
Can Cats Eat Granola?
Cats are natural carnivores–in the wild, they would eat nothing but meat. This means that their digestive system wasn’t made for processing grains and carbohydrates the same way ours is. A cat’s intestine is much shorter than a human’s, and not just because they are smaller creatures.
Granola is mostly made of grains, nuts, and carbohydrates, food items that cats wouldn’t naturally find in the wild. While the animals can digest these occasionally (eating prey with partially digested grains or nuts), a steady diet of grains and carbohydrates will put intense stress on the cat’s pancreas. This could lead to several health issues later on in life.
Essentially, you should probably avoid giving your cat granola. If you have a senior cat or a kitten, avoid any human food or diet changes. Straining a new or old cat’s digestive system is never good for any reason. For a full-grown cat, occasional granola might not hurt, but it probably wouldn’t be entirely wise.
What to Do If Your Cat Ate Too Much Granola
If your cat ate too much granola, there’s no need to panic. Unless it has an active toxin in it or your cat already has pancreas or dietary issues, it will probably only be a few days of discomfort for them. You can feed them regular food, make sure they drink plenty of water and watch for signs of illness.
However, if the granola had raisins or another cat toxin in it, you should contact your vet immediately. Also, if your cat ate more granola than you think its stomach can handle, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Most veterinarians don’t charge for a simple question over the phone, and you don’t want to regret not asking!
If you have a kitten or a senior cat that got into the granola, you should contact your veterinarian and take your cat in for a checkup as soon as possible. Old and young cats often have more dietary issues because their stomachs are weaker.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Granola Healthy for Animals?
Just because granola is healthy for humans doesn’t mean that it’s good for animals. Because animals, especially cats, were made to hunt an entirely different diet than humans, they have a different digestive system and shouldn’t have what’s in granola.
This goes for most animals; the majority of animals shouldn’t have what humans eat. Unprocessed foods that they were made to eat are much healthier for animals than the processed foods that we make for ourselves.
What is in Granola that a Cat Shouldn’t Have?
The granola recipe varies with each batch, whether it is loose or in a bar. However, several variations are actively toxic for animals. Unprocessed grains are among some of the ingredients that could harm cats if they overeat.
However, some granola has raisins or other dried fruits. Raisins are toxic to cats, dogs, and other household pets and should be avoided at all costs. If your granola has raisins in it, keep it out of reach of your animals.
Granola also has nuts, a form of protein but also of fat and carbohydrates. Too many carbohydrates can wreak havoc on a cat’s digestive system, causing the pancreas to overload and sending the body into shock. After a while, pancreatitis (which involves constant pain) can develop.
Many granola recipes involve some sweetener, which isn’t good for a cat’s body. Because cats were made for eating meat, the presence of sugar or sweetener can cause weight problems, diabetes, and more long-term health issues.
These are only a few of the main ingredients in granola. While it’s okay for your cat to pick up the crumbs from your granola bowls in the morning, it’s not a good thing for them to get used to having their bowl or consuming too much unprocessed grain and sugar.
Can Cats Eat Grains?
Grains are in a lot of granola, but they are also common ingredients in cat foods. So why is breakfast granola frowned upon when grains are in the foods we are feeding our cats? Well, it’s all about how the grains are processed.
Grains in granola are hardly processed, which makes them harder to digest. They’re much closer to how they would be found in the wild. This makes them better for humans because our long digestive systems need fiber to work. Cats, however, require much less fiber than we do.
Grains (usually corn or oats) in cat food, on the other hand, are puffed and processed to the point where they don’t affect a cat’s digestive system. The cat can simply eat them and not have to do the tough work of breaking down the fibers. The cat’s pancreas does less work and doesn’t get as taxed.

A granola bar certainly hits the spot when we’re starting to get hungry before lunch and dinner. They’re easy to transport and are a good source of energy for humans. Of course, we often get curious about whether or not human food serves as a good snack for our cats too. While granola bars are excellent sources of energy and nutrition for humans, they arenot recommended to give to cats.
A cat’s regular diet should not consist primarily of grains, but are they harmful as a treat? Depending on the ingredients in the granola, you can feed some types of granola to cats without putting them in danger. Still, you have to be very careful about checking the ingredients list. One wrong type of food could have some serious consequences.
Can Cats Eat Granola?
Cats can eat most granola in small amounts without any health risks. However, it should never make up the majority of your cat’s diet. Cats are carnivores and only need meat to survive. They don’t require fruits, veggies, and grains like humans do. We understand that some cats do try to sneak a few bites of human food, and yours might thoroughly enjoy eating granola, but you have to make responsible decisions. This means only feeding them tiny amounts of granola as a treat and picking granola brands that use safe ingredients for cats.

What are the Dangers of Feeding Cats Granola?
The two main ingredients used in granola are rolled oats and puffed rice. Cats are not capable of properly digesting the nutrients found in whole grains. Because granola is not part of a feline’s natural diet, it will take longer for them to digest these types of foods. If you were to only give your cats granola to eat, they would eventually become malnourished, experience diarrhea and constipation, or suffer from obesity.
The Nutritional Value of Granola
Believe it or not, granola isn’t all that rich in nutrients. It’s only when we add fruits and nuts to the mix that it becomes more beneficial to us. When you know that cats already can’t absorb these nutrients, it’s better to avoid feeding them granola altogether.
Granola tends to be high in sugar and carbohydrates and both of these could create some health problems in your cat. Sugar affects a cat’s blood sugar and increases insulin production in their bodies. Carbs can be dangerous for cats because they put a strain on the pancreas, and cats also lack the enzymes required to break the carbs down. In reality, feeding them granola on a regular basis could cause more problems in the long run.

Other Ingredients Found in Granola
Your cat eating granola every once in a while likely won’t cause any harm. It‘s the other ingredients added to granola that you have to be more cautious with.
Dairy
Dairy like milk or yogurt is often added to granola, but cow’s milk is potentially harmful to cats as most are lactose intolerant. This means that they lack the enzyme required to digest milk sugars in their intestines.
Honey
Honey isn’t technically poisonous to most cats, although there are some mature cats that do not react well to it. Even small amounts of honey could upset your pet’s digestive tract and cause vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhea, and lethargy.
Berries
Some fruits are safe for cats, and others are highly toxic. For example, blueberries and strawberries are safe and high in fiber and water content. On the other hand, grapes, raisins, and plums could have deadly results. This is the perfect example of why you have to be especially careful about the additional ingredients added to granola.

Almonds and other nuts are dense in nutrients and omega-3 fatty acids. Even though they are great for humans, your cat might struggle to metabolize these foods.
Final Thoughts
Cats don’t require the variety of foods that humans do. In general, they can eat commercial cat food for every meal and get everything they need to live a long and healthy life. On the other hand, eating the same thing repeatedly could lead to digestive problems and malnutrition.
It makes sense that you’d want to feed your cat the foods that bring you joy and make you feel energized. Unfortunately, cats’ bodies don’t work the same as ours. If your cat got into some granola, you likely don’t have to panic and assume that they’re going to get sick, but even though it is technically safe for cats to eat plain granola, it isn’t recommended.

Foods that are harmful to cats – British Cat Blog
It’s no secret that cats, our favorite pets, are carnivores by nature. The teeth and intestines of cats are designed in such a way that they eat only meat.
For the only vegetable food that cats eat in the wild is found in the intestines of their prey, with the exception of grass, which they occasionally chew for medicinal purposes.
Due to the fact that any harmful substances contained in plants are usually destroyed in the liver of prey cats (rodents and birds), this function of the liver was not developed in cats.
The most important intermediate organ of metabolism, the cat’s liver works in such a way that it is not able to quickly process some toxic substances. Therefore, cats are extremely prone to food poisoning that other species of animals can eat without harmful effects on the body.
Domestic cats are often more adventurous in their tastes than their country counterparts and will try different vegetables and fruits and other foods in the house.
To avoid dangerous consequences for the health of the animal, it is necessary to know what “human food” poses a threat to the life of a cat.
Some of the foods listed below are poisonous to cats even in small amounts, while others will not cause illness unless they are eaten repeatedly or in large quantities.
Alcohol
Cats can get drunk even after licking the rest of the wine sauce off the meat. While a single incident will not cause long-term effects, large amounts or repeated use of alcohol will cause liver damage. Like any other poisoning or gastrointestinal irritation, alcohol poisoning will lead to breathing difficulties, coma, and death.
Chocolate, Cocoa
Chocolate contains theobromine, a substance very toxic to cats. Theobromine increases the heart rate, causes arrhythmia and has a diuretic effect. A small amount of chocolate eaten initially leads to hyperactivity, neurological syndromes (disorientation in space, etc.) and causes thirst in cats. After a few hours, vomiting and diarrhea may begin. A large amount of theobromine leads to a heart attack within 24 hours.
The average lethal dose of theobromine concentration in the body of a cat is 200 mg/kg.
Cocoa powder, chocolate used in desserts, and premium chocolate are the most toxic because of the high percentage of theobromine.
Coffee and Tea
Coffee grounds, coffee beans and tea contain caffeine, a strong stimulant of brain and physical activity. While some cats enjoy drinking milk tea and coffee, this is not safe. Caffeine always leads to hyperactivity, and in large doses – to diseases of the cardiovascular and nervous systems.
Hops
Causes an increase in body temperature in cats, increases the heartbeat, leads to seizures. In this regard, dishes in the preparation of which beer was used, and beer itself, should not be given to cats under any circumstances.
Vegetables
Avocados . All parts of the avocado contain a toxin known as persin. It causes gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, breathing problems, fluid accumulation around heart tissues, and even death. Cats may be attracted to the oily texture of avocados, but they should never eat them.
Broccoli. Harmful in large doses due to the content of isothiocyanates toxic to the cat’s body. It is unlikely that someone will feed a cat so much broccoli to cause illness. In small quantities, broccoli contains healthy bioflavonoids, so you can give this type of cabbage occasionally 1-2 times a month.
Onion and Garlic. All onions contain N-propyl disulphide, which destroys red blood cells in cats, causing hemolytic anemia. Onions are poisonous in any form: raw, dried, powdered or cooked. Prepared food containing onions or onion powder should not be given to pets as a treat.
Garlic contains a similar toxic substance in smaller amounts. In some countries, owners add small amounts of garlic to pet food on the grounds that garlic is good for humans. It must not be forgotten, however, that the different functioning of the liver in cats, often makes human food unacceptable to cats.
Onion poisoning leads to hemolytic anemia, in which red blood cells rupture and circulate freely in her body. The first symptoms appear a few days after onion intake: vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and lethargy. Onion poisoning can be fatal after a single meal containing a large amount of onion relative to the body weight of the animal or several repeated meals containing a small amount of onion.
Rhubarb . Rhubarb leaves contain oxalates and ingestion of this plant by a cat can cause oxalic acid poisoning and consequent kidney failure. Cooked rhubarb stalk is safe to eat but has a strong laxative effect and can cause indigestion, intestinal discomfort, and diarrhea.
Tomatoes . Tomatoes, like all plants in the Solanaceae family, contain a bitter, poisonous alkaloid called glycoalkaloid solanine, which can cause severe gastrointestinal pain. In general, cats do not tend to eat tomatoes, but fatal cases have been reported in cats after eating one small cherry tomato fruit. Poisonous for cats are not only ripe fruits, but also green tomatoes, leaves and stems. During cooking, the toxins are destroyed, and tomato juice in jars with sardines or other fish will be safe. The same applies to eggplant.
Potatoes . Like tomatoes, potatoes are nightshade and contain the same alkaloid – glycoalkaloid solanine. Raw or green potatoes and potato peels are poison for cats.
Potato leaves – Contains oxalates which can damage the digestive, nervous and urinary systems. This is a more common problem with farm animals.
Cooked potatoes are safe for the cat, but absolutely useless, since the starch is not digested by the cat’s intestines.
Manufacturers of some super premium foods do not comment on why they contain potatoes.
Legumes (soybeans, peas, beans). Not absorbed by the cat’s body, lead to bloating and fermentation in the intestines.
Fruits
Fruit seeds and stones : pears, apples, apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines. Seeds of pear, apple and kernels of drupes (plums, peaches, nectarines, apricots and other fruits) contain glycosides. Apple seeds contain up to 0.6% amygdalin glycoside (hydrocyanic acid). Glycosides interfere with the ability of the blood to release oxygen to tissues and lead to suffocation.
Grapes and Raisins . Grapes and raisins have not been confirmed to be toxic to cats, but they are known to be poisonous to dogs. The American Center for Animal Poison Control (ASPCA) advises against giving grapes or raisins to cats or dogs in any quantity, which means not giving your breakfast cereal or fruit pie, even if the cat is begging.
Citrus fruits (lemons, oranges), and to them: kiwi, pineapples. They induce vomiting.
Persimmon . Persimmon seeds can cause intestinal blockages and enteritis.
Nuts
Most nuts are dangerous for cats due to their high content of phosphorus, the excess of which in the body is highly undesirable. Walnuts and macadamia nuts are particularly toxic to cats. Macadamia nuts contain an unknown toxin that can damage the digestive and nervous systems, as well as muscles.
Mushrooms
May contain toxins that affect various systems in the body, leading to toxic shock and death.
Milk
Milk is harmful to cats. Milk is a baby food and is not a natural food for adult cats. Cow’s milk contains lactose, which many cats cannot digest. Drinking milk leads to indigestion, diarrhea and intestinal discomfort. The higher the fat content of the milk, the less lactose it contains, so a small amount of cream may be safe for the cat. Other alternatives are condensed milk (high temperatures change the composition), lactose-free milk, and goat and sheep milk.
Cats that have a balanced diet and water don’t really need milk and it’s best that you don’t get into the habit of giving your cat milk.
Raw eggs
Raw eggs contain an enzyme called avidin, which in excess can cause biotin (vitamin B) deficiency leading to skin and coat problems in cats. It is unlikely that cats will eat dangerous amounts of avidin themselves unless you give them raw eggs every day. Poor quality eggs may also carry the risk of salmonella contamination.
Fish
Regular feeding of raw fish to the cat leads to a deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B1) due to the thiaminase enzymes contained in fish, which is manifested by loss of appetite, manifestations of nervous disorders (dizziness, convulsions, tremors) and in severe cases to death. Only the rare occasional treat of raw fish is entirely acceptable. During the preparation of fish, thiaminases are destroyed, however, the threat does not completely disappear. So laboratory studies have shown a causal relationship between feeding fish and K-avitaminosis in cats and the associated reduced blood clotting in animals. In this case, a fatal outcome is also possible – internal hemorrhage in the liver and gastrointestinal tract. Fatty fish in any form, rich in unstabilized polyunsaturated fats, can also cause pansteatitis (inflammation of subcutaneous fat cells) in cats. Signs of pansteatitis are peeling of the skin, greasy hair and painful reactions to pressure on the skin (the cat is not given in the hands). In addition, fish caught in river and sea waters polluted by industrial waste may contain toxic substances in the body: pesticides, herbicides and heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium).
Meat
Pork . Many veterinarians advise against giving pork to cats. However, in fact, pork products are often used in cat food under the label “offal of meat origin”. Raw and undercooked pork can certainly be a source of tapeworm. And from frequent feeding of cooked pork, cats can develop pancreatitis, cirrhosis of the liver and chronic kidney failure.
Meat, chicken and fish bones . May get stuck in the throat, scratch the esophagus, or cause intestinal ruptures.
Fatty meat trimmings, lard . May cause pancreatitis.
Liver. Contains many biologically active substances, which leads to disruption of metabolic processes. Raw liver can cause indigestion, while overcooked liver can cause constipation.
Frequent liver feeding will lead to an excess of vitamin A in the body, the toxic effects of which are manifested by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hair loss, bone deformity and muscle pain. It is possible to give liver to cats, only in small quantities 1-2 times a month.
Poultry meat: goose, duck . Raw leads to infection with worms, in some cases to dangerous infectious diseases, which leads to the death of the animal. Such meat is very fatty and poorly absorbed by the cat’s body.
Yeast dough
Yeast dough can cause bloating and indigestion.
Bread and pasta
Food rich in carbohydrates, eaten in large quantities, leads to flatulence and intestinal colic in cats.
Spoiled food
Spoiled food contains harmful bacteria and their decomposition products. Mold on food can also contain toxins. If the cat is not very hungry, she will avoid stale or spoiled food in every possible way. If a cat does eat spoiled food, then most likely it will have a protective emetic reaction.
Prepared foods and baby food
If you are going to give a prepared product to a cat, be sure to read the list of ingredients on the packaging. In addition to products that are dangerous for a cat, such as onion powder, preservatives may be contained in ready-made food. Many of the preservatives found in human canned food are extremely dangerous to cats.
Salt
Eaten in large quantities leads to electrolytic imbalance.
Sugar
Disrupts metabolism, weakens the immune system, leads to overweight, dental problems, dull coat and diabetes.
Fatty, spicy, salty, smoked, spicy, fried
Causes gastrointestinal upset, disrupts metabolism. When feeding food from a human table, the animal looks bad, chronic diseases appear. Excess salt, spices, preservatives can lead to diseases of the stomach, liver, kidneys, and digestive disorders.
Dog food
Safe for casual use. But with frequent feeding, it can cause malnutrition and negatively affect the heart.
Iron Human Vitamins
May damage the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to other organs, including the liver and kidneys.
Tobacco
Contains nicotine, which affects the digestive and nervous systems. May cause palpitations, fainting, coma and death.
Even if a cat has a special addiction to food alien to her body, in order to avoid sad consequences, it is not worth indulging her in this.
Is it possible to give cats pumpkin
Curious cats want to try everything! If your beloved furry friend is interested in pumpkin muesli, which the owner adds to his yogurt in the morning, or seasonal pastries, do not worry. Pumpkin is safe for cats. But there are a few things to keep in mind to feed this popular vegetable safely to your pet.
Can cats eat pumpkin?
Sweet slices of pumpkin pie, pumpkin latte or pumpkin spiced bars are very tasty for humans, but they will do little good for a cat. The body of pets is able to digest pumpkin, but excess sugar, fats and spices contained in pumpkin desserts and drinks are harmful to them.
The Pet Poisons Helpline explains that if a beloved four-legged friend reaches a jar of ground cinnamon or licks some essential oil or cinnamon extract from a bottle, they may develop any of the following symptoms:
vomiting;
diarrhea;
low blood sugar;
irritation in the mouth and lungs;
heart or liver problems.
The same can be said about nutmeg, ginger, cloves and allspice. These spices are best kept away from the cat.
Can cats be given pumpkin? Yes. An ordinary boiled pumpkin will be a safe treat for pets. It can be purchased canned or baked in the oven.
If the owner prefers canned food, it is important to make sure there are no spices in the jar. You should choose canned pumpkin without additives, which is usually harvested in its own juice.
Health benefits
Vegetables are good for both humans and cats. According to the Minnesota Emergency and Animal Welfare Center, pumpkin is high in fiber, water, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and high in minerals and vitamins, including A, C, and K. In addition, this orange vegetable is low in calories.
The fiber contained in pumpkin can not only reduce excess moisture in the cat’s digestive tract, but also increase the volume of stools, relieving her of diarrhea. The moisture in this vegetable also helps in case of constipation. However, it is important not to forget about moderation and portion control, since excessive consumption of pumpkin can lead to loose stools.
Balanced Diet
If your cat loves this colorful vegetable, remember to offer it as a treat, not a main course. You can freeze pumpkin pulp in small ice cube trays to treat your cat with a cool snack periodically. Then it is important to carefully monitor the pet.

What Are The Best Companies To Work For An Education Consultant?
I had the opportunity to work for the Department of Defense Education (DoDEA) system while in Germany and stateside as they still had base schools here at that time. Parents were military members who were employed and, for the most part, had a lot of interest in their children’s educations. Additionally, seeing the world is quite a job incentive, along with field trips to exciting places.
I was able to take my sixth graders from Ramstein, Germany, to see the Maginot Line in France, and on another trip, we went to a castle to see the birds of prey fly and catch their food mid-air. We also visited a Roman gate and the ruins of a communal Roman bath in Trier. I recommend adventurous teachers to apply to this system. Suppose a teacher is hired stateside through their rigorous application process. In that case, he/she has officer privileges overseas, including access to the base medical system, shopping in base facilities, and joining the officer’s club.
DoDEA pays to have the family and teacher moved to the country. Salaries are very high compared to the southern states. Finally, I owe this system as they provided me an educational leave at half-pay, which was the same as a Louisiana salary at the time. With this benefit, I was able to complete my doctoral studies at Georgia Southern University. In short, working for this system was the best teaching years I experienced.Show more

Thanks to a little online visual journey. .. my daughter has read 842 minutes in one month! That’s HUGE for someone that was struggling to enjoy reading!
– Jen D., Parent from Canada
Great way to keep our kids focused on reading!
– Thore T., Parent from Canada
It’s fun to journey across Canada with your young ones while encouraging them to read. Great product for developing readers!
– Kristina C., Parent from Canada
My son, who is 8 years old really likes it. He has dyslexia and dyscalculia and I have taught him to read myself because he has fallen behind other children his age and the schools he has attended have not accommodated him. So having a resource like this is so helpful.
– Alison, Parent from Spain
Read Across the World from Mind Growth Education is an incredible fun learning resource that encourages and motivates children to read while teaching them about the World. We thoroughly enjoyed Read Across the World in our home and look forward to continuing to use these online resources as a reading log. It is very easy to use and my boys, ages three, six and eight were excited to read so they could learn about World, earn badges, and get access to a new worksheet activity.
We had fun coloring a picture of the world while practicing math skills at Iceland and practiced tracing sight words in script and cursive writing at Finland. We colored a bookmark at Ireland and competed a word scramble at United Kingdom. This online reading log helped my children gain an understanding about the diversity in the world while looking at from an artistic, cultural, historical, geographical, political, and economic perspective. Once we reach a country, as family, we could do some further research on YouTube and watch some videos to expand our learning even more.
I highly recommend Read Across the World from Mind Growth Education for all children. It is an interactive and fun curriculum for learning about the World while incorporating a variety of perspectives.

Small spring victories
04/30/2021 No comments
This spring month, and especially this pre-holiday week, was marked by small but important quantitative achievements. Firstly, we have reached an important psychological milestone of 315 students, that is, we have already fulfilled the plan for the number of students declared for the Presidential grant by 90%, which is pretty good, considering how many of our partner orphanages and boarding schools have not been able to recover from pandemic stress and did not start working. Secondly, at the end of the previous week we passed the milestone of 9000 lessons, and there is every reason to believe that during the remaining time of active classes – May-beginning of June – we will overcome the bar of 10,000 lessons per academic year, which is already

It all started with the fact that in the Alekseevsk boarding school in the Saratov region, they needed help in teaching the German language. We found a teacher – Tatyana Yurievna Shulga, who lives in Liski, Voronezh region. She agreed to work with our guys. But it turned out that her mother took four boys from the recently disbanded orphanage. And of course we accepted them into our GROWTH Project. Liski is a small town, and the information quickly spread among other families who also took inmates from this orphanage. Some of them turned to us, and we expanded the contingent of participants. This is how we met our adoptive mother, Larisa Fedorovna, who took four

education unites! – News – Social Impact Project “Improving the Quality of Education in the Khangalassky Ulus of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)” – National Research University Higher School of Economics
by the end. The most important thing, and this is noted by both students and teachers, and parents, is that all project participants managed to create a single educational supportive space. It is not scary to make mistakes in it, it motivates to achieve academic achievements.
More than 25% of students in the 8th and 10th grades of Khangalassky ulus schools experience difficulties in learning Russian or mathematics. The situation of failure often becomes a huge demotivator for teenagers. Hands drop. The stressful situation extends to the family: a vicious circle that is difficult to break. Realizing this, for the second year in a row, the “School of Growth” has been operating within the framework of the project almost without interruption. Under this title, classes with students, webinars and seminars for teachers on differentiated learning, lesson study, and practical classes of the Parent University are collected. The training went like this: first, during the week, external methodologists worked with the teachers of the ulus, who conducted classes with students. We worked out effective practices for working with those who do not do well in Russian and mathematics. ”
The idea of the seminar was to give the teachers of the ulus the first experience of preparing a methodological set for a specific complex educational event. This is very important, because we believe that the content of a lesson, a course, and any educational unit should be formed based on an understanding of the goals: what result do we want to get? Therefore, most often finished materials are ineffective.
When designing the “School of Growth”, it should be taken into account that students cannot study mathematics for several hours in a row, it is important for them to learn simple actions first, to clarify for themselves the meaning of the simplest concepts. So the teachers made 20-minute machines, and each machine was designed to train one simple action.
The same “methodical assault” is carried out with language teachers.

Cat Acne: Everything You Need to Know About Feline Breakouts

Did you know that cats can get acne just like people? Find out how to easily identify and treat cat acne before it becomes a problem.
Does your cat seem to have brown or black dirt around the chin that doesn’t go away? Your pet could be breaking out — but cat acne doesn’t look the same as human acne. In fact, many people commonly mistake cat acne for dirt or flea excrement and will try to wipe, brush or wash it off to no avail. Feline acne will only occur on and around the chin, starts out as blackheads and can develop into itchy, red bumps if left untreated.
Dr. Karen Becker, veterinarian and author of “Real Food for Healthy Dogs and Cats,” helps cat owners and sitters to better understand feline acne in order to effectively identify and treat it. “There are a tremendous number of sebaceous, or oil, glands in the skin of a cat’s chin that are connected to hair follicles. In the case of acne, the follicles will become clogged with sebum, or oil, which form blackheads,” says Dr. Becker.
Cat Acne Causes Dr. Carla Webb from Banfield Pet Hospital suggests that immune system issues can sometimes cause feline acne. “When your pet’s immune system acts abnormally to allergens, like fleas or something in the diet, skin conditions can occur.” Dr. Becker agrees, and explains that many underlying conditions can cause cat acne to develop. “No one knows the exact cause of feline acne, but there seem to be several contributing factors,” she adds. Here are some of the things that can cause feline acne.
Hyperactive Sebaceous Glands If your cat produces an excess of sebaceous oil, all of that oil can end up clogging the hair follicles around the chin.
Contact or Atopic Dermatitis Chemicals in shampoos or household cleaners can irritate your cat’s skin, causing acne to develop.
Food Hypersensitivities Feline acne can occur as a result of an allergy to foods such as eggs, seafood, wheat, poultry and soy.
Hormone Imbalance Just like a teenager going through puberty, even cats can have hormonal breakouts.
Poor Grooming Habits Older or disabled cats sometimes have difficulty grooming themselves regularly, which can contribute to feline acne. You may have to decide if your cat needs a trip to the groomer.
Compromised Immune Systems Cats with autoimmune diseases or a chronic infection can develop acne as a result of weakened immune functioning.
Sometimes acne can happen as a result of less serious issues, such as rubbing things with their chins, thereby pressing oils deep into the hair follicles. If you suspect that your cat may have acne, make an appointment with your vet in order to rule out more serious conditions.
Treating Cat Acne Sometimes cases of mild feline acne might not need treatment and will subside on their own. However, if you notice that your cat’s blackheads have transformed into red bumps or have started to cause hair loss, your cat might need treatment. If more severe acne isn’t treated, the pimples could progress into dangerous abscesses. Feline acne treatments include:
Changing the Diet Dr. Becker recommends reducing grains, poultry and seafood in your cat’s diet to see if the acne improves.
Resolving Underlying Illness or Imbalances Feline acne can subside on its own once you treat any contributing illnesses or imbalances.
Disinfect Daily Wash the affected area daily using a gentle organic soap that does not contain artificial dyes or perfumes. This will remove bacteria and excess oil.
Dab WithWitch Hazel Apply a small amount of witch hazel on to your cat’s chin with a cotton swab after disinfecting. The witch hazel acts as an astringent to further remove oil and tighten pores. Proactively applying witch hazel to a cat’s chin can also help prevent breakouts in the future.
Apply Aloe veraGel Using your finger, spread a small amount of aloe vera gel over the area after disinfecting. Aloe vera soothes the skin and reduces inflammation to speed up healing.
Apply Manuka Honey This special type of medicinal honey contains antibiotic properties that will help heal feline acne. Dab the honey on to your cat’s chin after disinfecting. You can find manuka honey at most health food stores.
Replace Plastic Water Bowls Sometimes the plastic or dye found in pet dishes can cause contact allergies. Try replacing your cat’s plastic water dish with one that’s metal or ceramic.

Your Cat May Have Feline Acne

Est. read time: 3 min.
Just when you thought the life of a cat couldn’t be beat—permission to sleep all day, groom at their leisure, and get high on catnip—we’re here to throw you a curveball: Did you know that many cats suffer from feline acne? Check out our tips on how to spot, treat, and prevent feline acne below.
What is feline acne?
Acne in cat arises when hair follicles become clogged with oil from the sebaceous glands. This almost always occurs on a cat’s chin or around the mouth. Some cats may experience chin acne once in a lifetime, while others have it continuously. Long-haired cat breeds such as Persians may be more likely to have chin acne.
How to spot it
When your cat is relaxed, tilt his face up or gently scratch under his chin so that he lifts it. At first glance, your cat’s chin may appear “dirty,” as if spotted with tiny black dots between the chin hairs. Just like in humans, feline acne may present as blackheads or whiteheads. In more serious cases, PetMD reports that your cat may develop nodules, bleeding crusts, pustules, hair loss, a severe redness of the skin, and be in pain—which can indicate boils and/or a bacterial infection.
What causes feline acne?
To most of us, acne seems like a painfully human affliction. So why do cats get it? Veterinarians have identified some common causes of feline acne, including the following:
Bacterial overload from dirty food bowls and/or water bowls
Stress
Poor grooming
Food allergies
Abnormal sebaceous glands
Suppressed immune system
Contact sensitivity/dermatitis
How to treat and prevent feline acne
Clean your cat’s food and water bowls—and stop using plastic bowls
As Dr. Justine Lee explains in the video above, one of the most common causes for feline acne is the bacterial overload found in your cat’s plastic food and water bowls. Switch to glass or ceramic dishes. You might also consider raising the bowls so that the fur on your cat’s chin doesn’t come in contact with the food and water. Keep in mind, too, that bacteria can still flourish in non-plastic bowls—so make sure to regularly clean your cat’s dishes, as you would your own.
Consider DIY treatments
Gently wash your cat’s chin once or twice daily with a mild soap or other cleanser—such as good ol’ Stridex pads—recommended by your veterinarian. Dr. Lee also swears by the home remedy of witch hazel. Simply dampen cotton balls with the herb and apply topically 1-2 times a day.
Vary your cat’s diet
Your cat may be experiencing breakouts due to food allergies, such as wheat, dairy, or certain protein sources. Purchase sample sizes of different kibbles and wet food brands to find out if one particular ingredient is causing the acne.
Visit the vet for stronger treatment
Never use prescription-strength acne medications for humans on your cat. If a case of feline acne can’t be cleared up with the home remedies mentioned above, you’ll want to make an appointment with your veterinarian for further treatment options. Your vet may need to prescribe antibiotics or medicated wipes and shampoos.
Feline acne doesn’t have to be as stressful an ordeal as, say, when you experienced breakouts as a teenager. Although it can be uncomfortable for your cat, you’ll often find that DIY treatments take care of the issue. When in doubt, seek veterinary help.

Skin diseases in cats

Did you know that cats can suffer from mild to severe acne just like humans can from acne and pimples? While any cat or cat can develop this problem, acne is more common in cats with long hair or folds in the skin. For example, long-haired breeds, like Himalayan or Persian cats, are the most prone to acne. Here’s what a severe case of cat acne might look like:
What causes pimples (acne) in cats?
In humans, acne is often caused by oily skin, but this is usually not the case with cats. Cat acne can be caused by a flea allergy or environmental factors such as pollen or fungal spores can be the trigger. Flea control is very important and it is equally important to examine your cat for other types of allergies. Many felines are sensitive to plastic. Therefore, switching from plastic food or water utensils to stainless steel or porcelain will, in some cases, solve the problem.
Acne in cats, most commonly found on the chin or around the mouth, but can be present anywhere on the body. It manifests itself and looks like: bulges, pimples, black or whiteheads. Some cats have symptoms only once, while others have recurring clinical signs. If the condition is serious, you will notice hair loss, redness, and even growths or bleeding crusts. If a cat scratches or licks the affected area, a serious bacterial infection sometimes develops. For this reason, it is important to remember that you should not squeeze, pick, or otherwise attempt to remove a cat’s pimples.
Acne Treatment for Cats
Before attempting to treat acne in a cat on your own using this guide, I highly recommend that you contact me for a detailed consultation. It is best to visit a face-to-face appointment at the clinic or call at home if you are in Moscow or the Moscow region. I am a certified feline veterinary dermatologist.
Only the help of a professional doctor like me will help your cat get rid of acne quickly and safely. Among other things, such treatment is accompanied by high efficiency and reliability, which will help get rid of the recurrence of acne. In cases where it is not possible to contact a veterinarian, the following materials and reference information are provided for informational purposes only.
Common Methods and Treatments
Use a warm washcloth or compress
Rinsing a towel in warm water and applying it to the affected area of skin is sometimes sufficient to relieve pimple and acne flare-ups in some cats. Including a warm compress can reduce swelling.
Medicated wipes or shampoos
Topical treatments such as specialty wipes or shampoos are an alternative to oral antibacterials for feline acne. Your veterinary dermatologist may prescribe a medicated shampoo or recommend a specific type of wipe to help clear up the rash. Note. Unless your veterinary dermatologist tells you, do not use acne and acne products intended for humans on cats.
Antibacterials
Your veterinarian may deep clean the affected area with an antiseptic ointment. Often, this will require trimming the hair at the site of the lesion and around it. Some pet owners are prescribed or advised to purchase a special diluted antibacterial agent for self-cleaning at home.
Home acne treatment
Products that can be found in almost any household can also help soothe a cat’s acne. In some cases, you can even completely cure acne at home. After getting permission from me or your veterinarian, you can try the following options. Rub the pulp of the cucumber on the affected area, which will help dry it out, as well as the acne itself. Green or black tea, aloe, witch hazel, or coconut oil are also good and can do the trick. But this is all good for mild cases. In most cases, after such treatment, your pet should look much better in just a week.
Colloidal silver, also very effective in treating any kind of infection. You can find recommendations on the Internet for using organic apple cider vinegar. But I strongly advise against doing this, because without the necessary knowledge and skills, you can burn the skin of a cat.
If your doctor’s treatment does not help your cat’s acne, ask him to refer you to me or another good veterinary dermatologist.
Our feline family members are unable to tell us when something is wrong with them. It is important to carefully monitor their appearance and behavior in order to get rid of any ailments in time. Thus, they will definitely be happy and healthy.
While a few pimples are unlikely to pose a threat to your cat’s well-being, chances are they could indicate a more serious, underlying problem. Only a skin veterinarian can check to make sure your cat’s acne or condition is not painful, no tumors, or even leprosy.

Acne (acne) in cats – treatment
What is acne in cats
Cat Acne is a common disease characterized by acne on the chin and lips of the cat. Such acne can appear in cats of any age, gender, breed.
The sebaceous glands secrete sebum, which lubricates the skin, preventing dryness and irritation. The sebaceous glands are located mainly on the back, eyelids, chin, lips, at the base of the tail, in the scrotum and foreskin. They are associated with hair follicles.
These glands play an important role in territory marking, and any observant cat owner will notice how their pet rubs its muzzle against objects, and even against the owner himself. Over time, if the cat often rubs against an object, greasy spots may appear on it.
In acne, the hair follicle becomes clogged with black sebum (pictured), resulting in blackheads. These blackheads can be irritated, swollen, and infected, resulting in pustules (pimples).
Acne in cats – causes
The exact cause of feline acne is unknown. There are several possible causes:
– Stress. Stress triggers the release of various hormones that cause the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. Acne is often seen in cats fed from plastic bowls. Plastic is a porous material, bacteria can accumulate in its pores and get on the cat’s chin. Also, it could be an allergic reaction to the plastic.
– Poor care. The chin is a rather inaccessible area for self-care. Not every cat can clean it thoroughly.
– Activity of the sebaceous glands.
– Hormones. There is an assumption that the appearance of acne is associated with hormones.
Acne in cats – symptoms
Black dots (comedones) that look like dirt appear on the chin and possibly lips of the cat. (See photo)
Secondary infection may result in swollen, red pustules resulting in bleeding and irritation.
Advanced cases can lead to itching, inflammation and irritation.
Diagnosis of acne in cats
The veterinarian makes a preliminary diagnosis based on the appearance of acne on the cat’s chin.
Since there are other diseases with similar symptoms (bacterial pyoderma, contact dermatitis, food hypersensitivity, Malassezia allergy, eosinophilic granuloma), the veterinarian may take skin scrapings and culture fungal and bacterial cultures in order to rule out other reasons.
Cat acne – treatment
Cat acne treatment depends on the severity of the condition. The goal in this case is to remove excess sebum. Treatments may be as follows:
If the case is mild and the cat has only a few comedones, only topical treatment may be needed. Mild cleansing with antibacterial soap, witch hazel, iodine (Betadine), or Epsom salts.
In more severe cases, clean the skin with an ointment or gel containing benzoyl peroxide (eg OxyDex). Chlorhexidine can also be used.
Topical glucocorticoids to reduce inflammation.
It all helps if you use warm, wet compresses on your chin for 30 seconds before applying the drugs. That is, the skin must first be steamed.
Severe acne
The fur around the chin of the cat is trimmed to deeply cleanse the affected area.
Antibiotics if secondary infection is present.
Glucocorticoid tablets such as prednisone for severe inflammation.

Grant Program (Ages 3-5)
The Early Childhood Education Grant Program is intended to support the development of children in the 3 to 5 age range through the provision of comprehensive center- based programs. In most cases the projects expand and/or combine existing pre-kindergarten programs funded through district, federal, or parent fees, including Head Start. Each project receives funding for up to one-half of the total operating budget of the project per year on a continuing basis, subject to availability of the funds. A public school or an educational service unit is the fiscal agent.
Funded projects are required to operate in compliance with Rule 11: Regulations for the Approval of Prekindergarten Programs established by School Boards or Educational Service Units and for the Issuance of Early Childhood Education Grants. Rule 11 reflects research-based elements of quality early childhood education programs intended to produce strong outcomes for children.
