Starting your child on the path to ideal dental health begins with his or her first visit to our San Diego pediatric dental office. This first impression will set the stage for your child’s initial feelings toward dentistry, so we work hard to make each experience fun and comfortable.
Dr. Job and our team have created a warm and inviting environment where our young patients can feel safe and welcomed. We have age-appropriate toys and books, private treatment rooms for parents with young children, and a prize (reward) system for children of all ages. All these little things end up making a big difference when it comes to giving your child a memorable dental experience.
We are excited to see you and your child for his or her first visit! There are several things you can do to help prepare your child for this day.
First, you can explain where the two of you are going and show enthusiasm and excitement for this big day. Explain how important it is to have healthy teeth and that a great smile makes you and others feel happy. You can also play games with your child to practice going to the dentist by having them lie down and “open wide” while you brush their teeth. Most importantly, maintain a positive attitude and try to avoid scary words like drill, shot, or pull. Let your little one know you will be with him or her at all times and you are excited to share this first experience!
The ADA (American Dental Association) and the AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) recommend that children visit the dentist no later than one year of age. Studies show that early preventive visits are easier on children and actually reduce dental costs for parents over time.
Emergency: When your child needs urgent dental care, we are here to assist. Contact us as soon as possible so we may assist you with your child’s circumstance. Visit Pediatric Dental Emergencies for more information.
When to Visit the Dentist
The American Association of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children be seen by a pediatric dentist every six months. This allows us to build a relationship between your child, you the parent, and our staff. It also lets Dr. Job create a road map to measure oral health “milestones” in your child’s health. Regular checkups with your child helps us to stay proactive, providing information to you and preventive services to keep your child’s teeth in optimal condition.
Why Visit All Smiles Pediatric Dentistry?
Dr. Job is the only pediatric dentist in San Diego County who is also an Assistant Professor in Pediatric Dentistry (since 2005) and an active private practitioner. What is means is that he constantly learns about and teaches the latest advances in pediatric dentistry. He offers truly personalized dental care—Dr. Job will be the person who sees your child for their exam and also the same dentist who will treat your child. This builds trust, confidence, and a long-term relationship with your child, and peace of mind for you as a parent.
As a parent, coming to our practice is a breeze! Our office utilizes online forms, where you can fill out all your “paperwork” from the comfort of your home and then just arrive your for child’s appointment. We also offer complimentary Wi-Fi during your child’s appointment. Our online services let you schedule appointments and choose whether you’d prefer text and email reminders.
Learn about Your Child’s Teeth!
Your child’s first primary or baby teeth will begin to erupt between the ages of six and 12 months, and will continue to erupt until about age three. During this time, your child’s gums may feel tender and sore. To help alleviate this discomfort, we recommend that you soothe the gums by rubbing a clean finger or a cool, wet cloth across them. You may also choose to make use of a teething ring. When your child has finished teething, you can expect a total of 20 primary teeth.
Your child’s primary teeth are shed at various times throughout childhood. Permanent teeth begin erupting at age six, and continue until age 21. Adults have 28 permanent teeth (32, including wisdom teeth).
Healthy Home-Care Habits
As your child’s teeth erupt, be sure to examine them every two weeks, looking for lines and discoloration that may be caused by decay. Remember that sugary foods and liquids can attack a new tooth, so take care that your child brushes after feeding or eating. We recommend brushing four times a day for optimal oral hygiene: after breakfast, after lunch, after dinner, and at bedtime.
Brushing can be fun, and your child should begin learning to brush as soon as the first tooth arrives. When your baby’s tooth erupts, brush the tooth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. For children younger than two, do not use fluoride toothpaste unless advised to do so by your dentist or other healthcare professional. We suggest reviewing proper tooth brushing procedures with your child.
Flossing is also a part of good oral hygiene habits, and Dr. Job will discuss with you the right time to start flossing. If you notice signs of decay, contact our San Diego dental office immediately.
Preventing Tooth Decay with Regular Checkups
Tooth decay is caused by sugars left in the mouth that turn into an acid, which can break down teeth. Children are at high risk for tooth decay for a simple reason: many children and adolescents do not practice regular, good oral hygiene habits. Proper brushing and flossing routines combined with regular dental visits to All Smiles Pediatric Dentistry help keep tooth decay away.
Your child should visit Dr. Job every six months for regular dental cleanings and checkups. We recommend fluoride treatments twice a year along with cleanings to keep teeth their strongest. Tooth sealants are also recommended because they “seal” the deep grooves in your child’s teeth, preventing decay from forming in these hard-to-reach areas. Sealants last for several years, but will be monitored at your child’s regular checkups.
Getting to know your teeth is fun!

How to get there
1) Let your child learn to love his smile. While brushing your teeth, be close to your child and admire his beautiful smile. Just do it sincerely, and let your child also love himself smiling!
2) Be an example. Every time you go to brush your teeth, take your child with you, because we all know that children adopt habits from their parents. Never say something bad about your smile in front of a child.
3) Do not rush things and do not swear. Every time your child is unable to brush their teeth on their own, help and prompt them. Remember, we all once learned this, and in order for a child to love brushing his teeth in the future, he should not have negative memories of this procedure.
4) Independence is above all. Let the child choose his own toothpaste and brush, because it is he who brushes his teeth with it, and if he likes the brush, then the process of brushing his teeth will be interesting.
5) Turn on your fantasy. Brush your teeth with your favorite cartoon characters or soft toys, come up with an interesting story that you will tell your child exclusively while brushing your teeth, let it become an interesting and exciting event.
And most importantly – the child must remember that you need to brush your teeth regularly, gain strength and do not rush your child. If you are all calm, then the child will quickly learn to brush his teeth and not perceive it as an annoying task.

Welcome and thank you for visiting. We think you’ll see after browsing that what you’re looking for in on-campus child care is right here at the SUNY Cortland Child Care Center.
Our center is located on the SUNY Cortland campus and was opened in 1993 to serve students and staff of the college, New York state employees, SUNY Cortland alumni and members of the community. Everything within the center was designed and built with the young child in mind, so the facility is child-centered and appropriately furnished.
We’re a New York state licensed child care center, licensed for up to 98 children. Our center has seven classrooms: two infant rooms, two toddler rooms and three preschool rooms. We have extensive infant, toddler and preschool playgrounds directly outside our building with covered patios for rainy day play. We also have two indoor gross motor spaces where the children can expend their energy and use their large muscles when the weather is not conducive to outdoor play. Daily activities and routines are geared to promote development of children cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally.
Tuition assistance is available to income eligible students.
Our staff are all professionals in the early childhood field. Our teachers all have appropriate credentials in early childhood education or a related field. And all our staff are required to participate in ongoing training to keep abreast of current trends in child development and education.
One of the best benefits of being on campus is the involvement of the SUNY Cortland students in the center. Our early childhood department collaborates with our program, involving students through fieldwork placements and practicum experiences. The students contribute an energy and enthusiasm that is contagious among the children and staff here at the center. What better way for them to learn than active involvement in our daily programming.
We’re hoping that this “virtual” visit to our home page will be followed with a personal visit from you. We’ll all look forward to meeting you.
Most sincerely, The SUNY Cortland Child Care Center Staff and Administration
The Ultimate Guide on How to Start a Daycare Center
For children, daycare centers are a jumpstart to healthy growth and development. For you, they could be the key to financial freedom and a rewarding career.
Opening a daycare center is not as easy as ABC, 1-2-3. There are several components to consider like your location, the overall economy, operating costs, licensing, insurance coverage, and more.
This ultimate guide has everything you need to know about opening a daycare center and the nine steps you can take to start your business.
Daycare centers in the current economy
The daycare industry has always been essential. However, the COVID-19 pandemic did have a negative impact on many childcare programs.
To cooperate with social distancing regulations, USA Today reported that more than 2 in 3 of the United States’ formal childcare centers were closed or operating at reduced capacity. In addition, many families lost the need for childcare when many corporate jobs shifted to remote work.
Additionally, daycare centers continue to battle against inflation affecting the costs of rent, utilities, food, supplies, staff salaries, and tuition. And while this might all seem daunting, the childcare industry is on the rise again.
With the reduction of COVID-19 regulations, parents have returned to their offices, and the need for childcare has returned. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the job growth outlook for childcare workers between 2021-2031 is 6%—on par with the national average across all industries. And while the economy can quickly bring about the downside of any industry, there are many benefits associated with opening a daycare center to consider.
The benefits of opening a daycare center
The significant benefits of opening a daycare center include personal childcare, financial freedom, tax benefits, and a rewarding career.
Personal childcare
When parents of young children go to work, they have to consider child care. Who will watch their child(ren)? How much will it cost? Will they be available to drop them off and pick them up? Opening a daycare center eliminates these questions for you. Starting a daycare business could lead to increased financial freedom if you already provide at-home care for your own children.
Financial freedom
Most workers in the corporate world rely on their supervisors and managers for a paycheck. Opening a daycare center gives you financial freedom and autonomy over your income. Owning your own business also allows you to make decisions to propel the business and ensure your financial security.
Tax benefits
Opening a daycare provides tax benefits that save you money. For example, as a business owner, you can write off certain daycare expenses, including your utility bills, vehicle, and childcare supplies.
Opening an in-home daycare may also allow you to write off a portion of your housing payment as a business expense when you file taxes.
Rewarding career
There is no doubt that many daycare owners and workers find their job of teaching, helping, and encouraging children rewarding. Daycare is essential to young children’s cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development. Teachers have a direct hand in shaping their minds and behavior.
Before opening a daycare, ask yourself why you want to start a daycare. For example, are you passionate about fostering young children’s development? Do you want to help families in your community? Reflecting on the reasons why you want to start a daycare will motivate you through the process and help your business succeed.
How much does it cost to start a daycare?
Before we outline the steps to starting your daycare center, you might find it beneficial to understand the financial obligation you’ll be making. The average cost to start and run a daycare business is about $50,000. The typical range is between $10,000 and $100,000, depending on various factors like location, size of daycare, number of children, and staff.
Overall, home-based daycares usually has less start-up costs since you don’t need to find a facility. On the other hand, medium to large-sized daycares can cost upward of $50,000, and the largest daycare centers can cost upward of $100,000, depending on your location. The typical operating costs of running a daycare center include:
Rent and utilities
You may opt to operate a home-based daycare center, which may cost less to operate than renting a commercial space. Most commercial spaces charge between $0.60 and $2.50 per square foot. Utilities may include electricity, water, heating, TV, phone, and internet.
Employee compensation
Hiring teaching and non-teaching staff is crucial if you plan to run a daycare. According to data from Salary.com as of February, 2023, childcare workers in the U.S. earn an average salary range of $33,000 to $42,000 per year. However, this range may differ based on your location as well as the employee’s education, certifications, and years of experience.
Licensing fees
Daycare business licensing requirements and fees vary from one state to another. You should inquire with your state’s early childhood education department to determine what licenses will be required for your business.
Insurance
Insurance costs can range between $3,000 and $5,000 a year, depending on your specific policy and location. You may have to buy the following insurance policies: liability policy, property policy, workers’ compensation insurance and errors and omissions insurance.
Supplies and equipment
You will need plenty of educational supplies and various furniture and equipment at your daycare center. Typical costs range from $30,000 to $40,000. Indoor furniture and equipment such as cribs, tables, changing stations, mats, chairs, computers, and outdoor furniture like playground equipment is essential for your center. Educational supplies like age-appropriate toys, books, and craft supplies, and housekeeping supplies such as cleaning supplies, diapers, and wipes should also be included in your budget.
Food
If your center provides meals, you will also need to budget for the cost of food and other kitchen equipment and supplies like plates, cups, and napkins. The USDA website provides information on Child and Adult Care Food Program nutrition standards that most centers must abide by.
Advertising and marketing
Advertising and marketing are crucial for new and established daycare businesses. The total advertising and marketing costs can range between $1,000 and $1,500. These expenses typically include things like printed flyers or other marketing materials, website costs, or ads on social media.
When opening a daycare, use this information to estimate your daycare’s monthly budget and expenses.

How to start a daycare in 9 steps
Opening a daycare requires careful preparation. To open a daycare in your community, follow these steps:
1. Learn about daycare licensing requirements
2. Write a daycare business plan
3. Find a location for your daycare
4. Get insurance for your daycare business
5. Prepare your daycare facility
6. Develop policies and procedures
7. Hire staff to help you run your daycare
8. Invest in childcare software
9. Finally, market your daycare business and seek applicants
Follow these steps carefully in accordance with your local and state guidelines to keep your business compliant and help your daycare run smoothly.
1. Learn about daycare licensing requirements
Daycare businesses often start small. You might transition from babysitting and nannying to owning your own childcare business. Making that transition requires you to be compliant with local and state regulations.
To comply with your state’s specific rules and regulations, check out Child Care Aware of America’s licensing guidelines for childcare and daycare providers. This resource allows you to research the requirements in your specific state and city.
If the information for your state is unavailable, contact your state’s Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) or equivalent agency. While the requirements will vary across the country, you typically need to meet specific education and training requirements to obtain a childcare license.
For example, some states require that a childcare center director has a degree in child development or a related field, while others might require a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or years of experience working with children.
Your local Child Care Resource & Referral Agency (CCR&R) will play a significant role in the information you need. Use them as a resource to understand and remain compliant with all childcare regulations.
2. Write a daycare business plan
Writing a daycare business plan will provide a great advantage and guide you through the rest of the startup process.
To start, decide on a name for your daycare as well as a mission statement. You’ll also need to determine your marketing plan, organizational plan, staffing, operations, and budget.
Next, you will need to research the costs of successfully launching a profitable daycare business. Consider the financial aspect of your daycare startup: are you using your own money or seeking a small business loan? Have you looked into daycare grants?
Creating and setting financial goals is crucial to running a successful business. In business, everything costs money, so make realistic expectations and estimates.
For additional help, the U.S. Small Business Association provides detailed instructions on writing a general business plan.
3. Find a location for your daycare
Are you starting an in-home daycare? Are you looking to rent an existing daycare center? Are you planning to start a daycare business from scratch with a new facility?
You’ll often hear the phrase “location, location, location” in real estate. Consider this when searching for your daycare facility location. Note that all families will likely have a preference on where to send their child. Some might choose a quiet suburb over a bustling city. A facility next to a highway might raise safety and security concerns for some families. Remember these factors when searching for a location that fits your business needs.
Additionally, check your city zoning laws and childcare licensing guidelines to ensure your daycare business location is compliant with all regulations.
4. Get insurance for your daycare business
Depending on the type and size of the daycare you’re opening, you will need various insurance policies.
Most states require that daycare facilities obtain a license from their state’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Part of the licensing process includes getting liability insurance. Liability insurance protects you and your business if someone gets hurt on your property. It is essential when caring for other people’s children.
Other types of insurance that could be beneficial in running your business include workers’ compensation—if an employee is injured on the job—and commercial property insurance—if your daycare center or assets are damaged and need to be repaired or replaced.
Insurance can get complicated. Find out what coverage is required and check your local childcare provider licensing requirements for guidance.
5. Prepare your daycare facility
What do you need to open a daycare business? You’ll need furniture and supplies if you’re getting ready to open a daycare center. Use this list to guide you through your preparation.
After getting the necessary supplies for your daycare facility, preparing the space also means ensuring it is childproofed. Having safety supplies and measures in place is an irreplaceable step, but you’ll need to take it further. Secure furniture and large appliances to the wall. Install covers on electrical outlets. Avoid keeping small items and toys around the facility to prevent choking.
When opening a daycare, the safety of the children comes first. So spend the time and use the proper resources to set up a safe, compliant daycare center.
6. Develop policies and procedures
Use childcare forms and templates to kick-start developing policies, procedures, and handbooks for your staff and families.
Three important forms are daily report, staff evaluation, and enrollment forms.
Daily report forms allow the staff to communicate with the parents on their child’s progress.
Staff evaluation forms help you monitor your employees’ performance at your center and also provide an opportunity for you to support their professional development.
Lastly, enrollment forms will typically be one of a parent’s first interactions with your business. Carefully craft the messaging to demonstrate a welcoming, inclusive environment for families and their children.
As mentioned in the previous section, preparing your daycare facility also includes needing emergency and sanitation plans. You’ll want to develop a disaster or crisis management plan under the guidance of your local childcare licensing requirements. Your crisis management plan should include health, safety, privacy, and nutrition protocols.
7. Hire staff to help you run your daycare
A daycare center is only as good as its staff, so carefully consider your childcare hiring decisions.
Verify the daycare licensing requirements for staff ratios. The child-to-staff ratio ensures that all children receive adequate care, but depends on factors like the children’s age and the daycare center’s size. If you plan on running the daycare facility on your own, this will limit the number of children you can have in your facility.
Additionally, you will need information on the licensing requirements for teachers’ educational backgrounds and other qualifications. Childcare staff may also be subject to criminal background checks and fingerprinting for further investigation. Therefore, verify references and education levels rigorously to avoid faux credentials.
8. Invest in childcare software
One of the best ways to start a successful daycare is to take advantage of the fantastic daycare technologies at your disposal. Streamlining your administrative tasks gives you more time to focus on providing families with a quality childcare experience.
Brightwheel makes easy-to-use childcare software to help you manage your daycare and stay in touch with families. Your staff can use brightwheel to record and track daily events and activities, and parents can get real-time updates delivered to their mobile devices throughout the day.
Our powerful daycare app also offers secure, digital check-in/check-out and an automated paperless daycare billing system.
9. Market your daycare business and seek applicants
You’ll need a marketing strategy for your childcare center that includes marketing collateral and an online presence.
Here are some ideas to get the word out about your daycare:
List your business in local childcare directories and participate in your community’s daycare or preschool enrollment fairs.
Advertise through local businesses, parent groups, local events, and popular childcare blogs.
Try popular early education sites like Tinybeans and Winnie.
Run a social media campaign focusing on your target population.
Host a grand opening event to attract families.
Once you’ve managed to fill your inaugural child roster, continue with ongoing marketing efforts so that you’ll always be building a customer base.
FAQs about starting a daycare center
Can you open a daycare center from home?
Most states allow you to operate a daycare center from your home or private residence. Like commercial daycare centers, in-home daycare centers require a license from your state. The National Database of Child Care Licensing Regulations outlines each state’s licensing policies and regulations.
How much does it cost to get daycare licensing?
Daycare licensing fees vary from state to state, but they typically cost between $100 and $200. This cost does not include the expenses associated with any additional requirements like obtaining specific education, certification, or training requirements or making sure your facility or home is up to your state’s standards.
How long does it take to get licensed?
The average time it takes to receive a daycare license varies by location but can take several months. However, this process can take longer if you lack the proper experience or documentation to fulfill your state’s requirements.
Are daycare centers profitable?
Your daycare center’s profitability depends on many aspects of your business including your location, operating costs, tuition rates, and employee compensation. Generally, daycare centers in areas with higher costs of living can typically charge more for tuition.
How much can you charge?
The average cost of center-based daycare in the United States is $10,000 – $12,000 per year. However, the price you charge for childcare will depend on numerous factors, including business location, local rates, average state tuition, and the child’s age.
Your rates can also fluctuate based on what kind of child care you provide and whether you offer part-time, full-time, or after school care.

Business property insurance = $63/month
Professional liability insurance = $46/month
Workers’ compensation = $86/month

Child dies after car crashes into day care on Goldenrod Road – WFTV
ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Lily Quintus, 4, of Orlando died following a car crash at a day care in Orange County Wednesday afternoon.
A small memorial for Quintus was set up at the KinderCare center by Wednesday night.
Robert Corchado, 28, was named a suspect in connection with the crash that injured 15 at the day care on Goldenrod Road near University Boulevard. He may be trying to leave Orlando, authorities said.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said they believe Corchado, the driver of a silver Dodge Durango, rear-ended a Toyota Solara, which crashed into the building.
The car wound up inside the front room and was removed around 6:45 p.m.
The driver of the Toyota wasn’t injured.
Eight children were taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital.
One is in critical condition, three are in serious condition and one is in fair condition. Two children have been released.
Hospital officials said Quintus died at 6:45 p.m Wednesday.
In all, 13 people were taken to local hospitals from the scene.

Authorities located the Durango shortly after 5 p.m. in Winter Park. Witnesses said they saw someone drop it off at a house, get into another car and drive off.
Later Wednesday, authorities confirmed Corchado rented a small, black Mazda SUV from an Enterprise in Winter Park, with a Florida license plate CHR-Q41.
“It could have easily been his side of the school and he could have been one of them,” said parent Yvette Santiago.
Santiago cried when she said she feared her 3-year-old son was among the injured.
“I’m glad he’s fine, but it still breaks my heart knowing [that] there’s a lot of other kids that got injured,” she said.
One man said he saw the crash that led to the carnage inside the day care .
“I heard a crash, and I saw the black car run up over the sidewalk and into the school,” said Jeezy Jenkins.
Skywitness 9 was over the scene as small children were carried out and put into stretchers and into ambulances.
An FHP trooper said there were a wide variety of injuries to the 12 children and two adults.
“The injuries on the children range from severe, critical and all the way though to minor,” the trooper said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities immediately.

“Charming eyes.
..” : Gatchina24 – News, Events, Poster of Gatchina and Gatchina region
in the Gatchina school No. 4. Schoolchildren from the 5th to the 11th grades took part in the competitive program of the holiday. The task of each class was to think over their composition and present it, revealing the chosen topic.
The subtle, tart aroma of autumn flowers that filled the school that day reminded of the first bell that had recently sounded at the solemn line. For the second school holiday this academic year, the guys were preparing all last week. The space in front of the auditorium stage was lined with floral artifacts, ranging from complex, elaborate arrangements to simple, sweet bouquets. Chrysanthemums and asters, sunflowers and goldenrod, heleniums and rudbeckias, amaranths and marigolds – everything that our autumn so generously squanders before the onset of cold weather pleased and surprised at the same time.
The organizers of the festival were high school students, and it became a kind of science for the younger children – very little time will pass, and the baton of the main mass entertainers will rightfully pass to them.
Each bouquet had its own name. “Maple Roses”, “Shards of the Sun”, “Last Rays of Light”, “Autumn Waltz”, “Autumn’s Farewell Kiss” – poetry sounded not only in the titles of the compositions. Presenting their bouquets, the guys read poems by great Russian and contemporary poets. And this was the most successful decision, since only poets are able to find words that can describe the amazing beauty of our nature.
The competition began with the presentation of bouquets by the smallest participants of the festival. I was surprised by the exquisite names that the guys gave to their creations. All the bouquets were good in their own way, and yet everyone was captivated by the composition called “Autumn Palette”, assembled according to all the rules of the Japanese art of arranging bouquets. Luxurious bouquet has absorbed everything that northern autumn can give us. Roses skillfully folded from maple leaves, coastal grasses and oak leaves, all kinds of fruits – wild rose, apples, mountain ash, viburnum, acorns. The core of this exquisite composition was a dry branch, which emphasized the low-key charm of autumn colors.
In terms of originality of ideas, the sixth grades did not lag behind their younger comrades. A vase for one of their compositions was … a tarpaulin boot. The guys named this bouquet “Platoon 6-1” – this idea was suggested to them by last year’s war game “Zarnitsa”. As a musical accompaniment for this presentation, the famously performed old song “Soldiers, brave children” was used, which brought a light cheerful confusion to the holiday.
A sad note sounded that day at the flower festival. A composition dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attack in Beslan was presented by ninth-graders. Heavy purple clusters of amaranths bent over two white candles. The background for this composition was a black scarf – a symbol of misfortune and enduring sadness.
Perhaps one of the most touching compositions was “Sunflowers” presented by seventh-graders. With this cute word, the guys called flowers of completely different “breeds”, but just as sunny, cozy and affectionate.
Children’s fantasies about autumn bouquets turned out to be so diverse and bizarre that a strict jury had to come up with nominations, the number of which was close to the number of bouquets. “Tradition”, “Inspiration”, “We are friends with nature”, “For elegance and fantasy”, “Originality of ideas” – each of these and other nominations found its winner. But the main thing, of course, was not that. The task of the competition included the ability of children not only to see the beauty in modest autumn colors, but also to express it through joint efforts – a wonderful and useful skill at the same time.

What to plant with tomatoes?
231
Like all living things, some plants are well compatible, while others do not get along well when planted together. Compatible plants usually provide some benefit to each other. For example, one plant may attract insects that will help pollinate another.
The root systems of some plants also work well together. In this article, we will look at the combination of tomatoes with other plants. According to the observation of gardeners, planting tomatoes next to some crops brings additional benefits – it increases the strength of plant growth and the quality of fruits. And other companions, on the contrary, harm tomatoes.
Flowers compatible with tomatoes
Many beautifully flowering plants are repellent and repel insects, so planting them near tomatoes helps reduce pest infestation. Calendula, also known as marigolds, usually repels many insects, such as worms that damage tomatoes. Marigolds also provide protection against insects: whiteflies, tomato worms, various beetles, cabbage moths and soil nematodes.
Although this combination may seem bizarre from a landscape design point of view, gardeners also note that tomatoes have a positive effect on rose bushes. Growing tomato next to roses has been observed to protect roses from black spot and other fungal infections. Tomato leaves contain a chemical that acts as an insecticide on certain insects that can attack the rose.
Strong smells of nasturtium and marigold confuse pests looking for their favorite food. In addition, their roots produce a nematode-repellent substance. There is evidence that nasturtiums are effective against whiteflies and cabbage moths, as well as against aphids and some beetles.
Cornflowers, kosmeya, goldenrod, asters and rudbeckia attract insects that provide additional pest control by preying on harmful insects.
We often use aromatic herbs to add spice to food, but many spices are also good companions for tomatoes. The classic combination of tomato and basil works both on the plate and in the garden. Basil is said to repel mosquitoes, flies, and tomato worms, as well as help attract beneficial insects to your garden.
While there is no scientific evidence for this, gardeners have observed that basil can also improve the taste of tomato fruits and promote more vigorous plant growth. The only way to test this claim is to try planting basil near the tomatoes in your garden. Especially since basil, as a rule, is shorter than tomatoes and will not shade them from the light. Borage (borage, borage) also provides protection for bushes from tomato worms.
Mint is not only a great tea ingredient and sedative, it can also repel typical garden pests such as ants, mice and fleas. Mint is also effective against cabbage moth infections, and, among other things, increases the overall immunity of tomato bushes and improves the taste of fruits.
Fragrant mint can be planted next to tomatoes or used as a useful mulch for tomato beds. Lemon balm and monarda, which are close relatives of mint, attract pollinators that contribute to the pollination of tomatoes, and also improve the taste and growth of tomatoes.
Other herbs that grow well next to tomatoes are green onions and parsley. Parsley accelerates the growth of tomatoes and attracts predatory insects that feed on tomato worms. However, it should be borne in mind that parsley should not be planted next to mint, because these plants have a very negative effect on each other. Instead, you can plant parsley in the company of tomatoes and roses, since parsley also helps to enhance the aroma of the rose.
Some vegetables are also compatible with tomatoes in the garden. Garlic and onion are among the most powerful insect repellent plants. And members of the Onion family are very good companions for tomatoes, especially effective against aphids, beetles and spider mites (particularly red spider mites).
Onions planted in a ring around a tomato patch protect plants from pests such as mites, slugs and earwigs and, where appropriate, repel marmots. Garlic prevents red spider mites from infesting tomatoes and is also effective against aphids on roses, making these crops suitable for garden trios.
Garlic, basil and tomatoes are another popular trio for planting together, as garlic heads keep aphids, mites and nematodes away (and roses, by the way, protect against black spot). Broccoli also grows well alongside onions, garlic, and tomatoes, so consider planting them together.
Early carrots can also be planted next to tomatoes as the crop can be harvested before the tomato bushes grow and take up space. Although carrots do not prevent disease or repel insects, they are considered a friendly neighbor for tomatoes. Its deep roots loosen the soil around the tomatoes, making it easier for water and nutrients, as well as air, to circulate around the tomato roots.
However, be aware that there is also evidence that proximity to tomatoes may stunt carrot growth, although root vegetables taste good. In addition to early carrots, spinach and leaf lettuce also contribute to the efficient use of space in tomato beds, since this is a crop that is harvested shortly after planting tomato seedlings.
Beans and peas are commonly combined with many crops because legumes add nitrogen to the soil. Planting asparagus between tomato plants provides asparagus protection from beetles. At the same time, the harvest from these plants is harvested at different times of the year, and their combination saves space in the garden. Asparagus appears in early spring, while tomatoes are planted in the garden much later.
Some plants cause harm to tomatoes when they grow nearby. Potatoes and tomatoes are members of the same nightshade family and are subject to the same diseases and infections, so they should grow as far apart as possible.
Corn is another plant that is not compatible with tomatoes as the worm infects both plants. Most members of the cruciferous family need a lot of nutrition and take a lot of nutrients out of the soil, and tomatoes are nutritionally deficient. Also, white cabbage inhibits the growth of tomatoes in general.
Some plants are simply not designed to coexist in the same place, and combining them can seriously retard growth or increase the vulnerability of one or both plants to diseases and pests. In particular, fennel, dill, rue, kohlrabi, white cabbage, cauliflower, walnut and apricot are especially negative for tomatoes.
Therefore, do not plant them on the same or neighboring beds with tomatoes. Also break the beds with tomatoes as far as possible from the walnut and apricot, even if they are young seedlings.
Dear readers! In most cases, plant compatibility is based on someone’s experience or folk signs. And, unfortunately, at the moment there are no scientific studies that could confirm or refute these recommendations. But why not experiment with joint plantings on the site? Indeed, in the worst case, you will get more variety in your garden. Therefore, it is advisable to try the combinations described below and evaluate the results yourself.

At the end of May, a gorilla named Harambe was shot at the Cincinnati Zoo: this had to be done so that the monkey would not harm a four-year-old child who made his way to her enclosure. The murder of Harambe caused a heated discussion about who is to blame for what happened – the parents of the child, employees of a particular zoo, or zoos in general? Meduza tells what happened that day and whether it was possible to save the gorilla’s life.
On the afternoon of Saturday, May 28, a four-year-old boy somehow ended up in a gorilla enclosure. To do this, he had to crawl under the fence, overcome the wire fence and climb over the wall. According to other sources, he simply climbed over a 1.2-meter fence and made his way through the bushes. Be that as it may, as a result, the child fell from a height of 4.5 meters into a shallow reservoir, to which the monkeys had access.
Harambe in April 2015
The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden
One of them, the western lowland gorilla Harambe, who turned 17 the day before, became interested in the boy. The monkey spent the next 10 minutes in close contact with the child, carrying him from one end of the enclosure to the other. The animal did not attack the unexpected guest and did not pose a direct threat to his life, but could accidentally hit the child on something with his head. To save the victim, the zoo staff decided to shoot Harambe. Two other gorillas that lived with him were unharmed.
“We are saddened by the loss of Harambe, but the child’s life was in danger and our Dangerous Animal Response Team needed to make a quick decision,” Zoo Director Thane Maynard said of the incident. According to him, when the gorilla dragged the boy around the enclosure, the child’s head hit the concrete.
A child with non-life-threatening injuries was taken to the hospital. In the evening of the same day he was discharged.
Who is to blame – the parents or the zoo staff?
The news of the animal’s murder has outraged many, including celebrities. Among them are Queen guitarist Brian May and British comedian Ricky Gervais.
“Why was that gorilla killed? No judgment, no reason. There is no excuse. Who will investigate?”
“Some gorillas seem to make better parents than some people.”
On Monday, several dozen people gathered near the zoo, who staged a protest and paid tribute to the memory of Harambe. At the gorilla monument in the zoo, people lay flowers and toys.
A gorilla memory page has been launched on Facebook, to which more than 120,000 users have already subscribed. Sympathizers draw pictures with a photo of Harambe and the caption: “I don’t know why they killed me. I looked after this lady’s child better than she herself.” Their opponents answer: “If you care more about the gorilla than the child, you have serious problems with your head.”
Gorilla defenders pay attention to the video, which shows how Harambe and the boy who fell towards him were holding hands. True, in the same video you can see how the monkey rather roughly dragged the child from one end of the reservoir to the other.

Two petitions have already appeared on Change.org in connection with the murder of Harambe. In the first one, they demand to start an investigation against the parents in order to establish their responsibility and make sure that nothing threatens the child at home. In the second, to adopt the “Kharamba law”, which would prescribe the responsibility of people guilty of creating situations leading to the death of rare animals (and Harambe was a representative of a species under threat of destruction). At the time of writing, the two petitions in total have gained almost half a million signatures.
Parents’ critics were answered by the Huffington Post, in a column that says – these were the most terrible moments in the mother’s life, and she deserves not censure, but sympathy. Parents themselves try not to “shine” in the press. They released an anonymous statement thanking the Cincinnati Zoo staff for their quick response: “We know this was a very difficult decision for them and that they are grieving the loss of the gorilla.”
Many wonder why the gorilla wasn’t simply put to sleep with a tranquilizer dart. Forbes came up with a detailed explanation: a tranquilizer instantly puts the victim to sleep only in the movies, but in reality it takes about five minutes until it works. Moreover, it would be a difficult five minutes, because usually gorillas get furious from this kind of shots, pull a dart out of their body and begin to run around the enclosure in anger until they finally fall asleep. Another reason not to shoot sleeping pills at Haramba is that the dart does not fly as accurately as a bullet, and it could hit the boy.
Another complaint against the zoo is that the boy got into the enclosure too easily – according to observers, the fence could have been more secure. The head of the zoo, Thane Maynard, replied that it had never occurred to anyone to criticize the fence for 38 years of its existence – it regularly performed its functions. However, all fences will be checked at the zoo. The section containing gorillas will be closed indefinitely.
Initially, the police did not find a reason for a criminal case in connection with the murder of Harambe, but on Tuesday they decided to take a closer look at the incident. At the same time, animal advocates filed a complaint with the US Department of Agriculture demanding that the zoo be punished for killing the gorilla. If the ministry agrees with the activists’ arguments, the organization faces a fine of up to $10,000.

Tips for Protecting Children from Environmental Threats
The modern Russian alphabet consists of 33 letters. The alphabet in its current representation has existed since 1942. In fact, the year 1918 can be considered the year of the formation of the modern Russian alphabet – then it consisted of 32 letters (without the letter ё). The origin of the alphabet, according to historical documents, is associated with the names Cyril and Methodius and dates back to the 9th century AD. From the moment of its origin until 1918, the alphabet changed several times, incorporating and excluding signs. At one time it had over 40 letters. The Russian alphabet is also sometimes called the Russian alphabet.
On our website for each letter of the Russian alphabet there is a separate page with a detailed description, examples of words, pictures, poems, riddles. They can be printed or downloaded. Click on the letter you want to go to its page.

In most cases, replacement does not cause difficulties for the reader, but in the reader, but in some contexts require the use of the letter ё to avoid ambiguity. Russian letters are neuter nouns. It should be borne in mind that the style of the letters depends on the font. From the site you can download the alphabet or download the letters in pdf format (on each sheet by letter).
Letters of the Russian alphabet
Frequently asked questions about the letters of the Russian alphabet are: how many letters are there in the alphabet, which are vowels and consonants, which are called uppercase and which are lowercase? Basic information about letters is often found in popular questions for primary school students, in erudition and IQ tests, in questionnaires for foreigners on knowledge of the Russian language, and other similar tasks.
Single line
Capital letters in order: in order, separated by a space: A B C D E E F G I J K L M N O P R S T U V X T in order with a comma: A, B, C, D, D, E, E, F, Z, I, Y, K, L, M, N, O, P, R, C, T, U, F, X, C, H, W, W, b, S, b, E, Yu, I; in reverse order: YOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
; in order, separated by a space: in order with a comma: a, b, c, d, e, e, e, f, h, i, d, k, l, m, n, o, p, p, s, t, y, f, x, c, h, w, u, b, s, b, e, u, i; in reverse order:
Number of letters
How many letters are there in the Russian alphabet? There are 33 letters in the Russian alphabet.
Some people, in order to memorize the number of letters in the Russian alphabet, associate them with popular phrases: “33 pleasures”, “33 misfortunes”, “33 cows”. Other people associate with facts from their lives: I live in apartment number 33, I live in region 33 (Vladimir region), I play in team number 33 and the like. And if the number of letters of the alphabet is forgotten again, then the associated phrases help to remember it. Maybe it will help you too.
Vowels and consonants
How many vowels and consonants are there in the Russian alphabet? 10 vowels + 21 consonants + 2 do not mean a sound
Among the letters of the Russian alphabet, there are:
21 consonants: b, c, d, e, d, g, h, k, l, m, n, p, r, s, t, f, x, c, h, w, u;
2 letters that do not mean sounds: ь, ъ.
The letter means sound. Compare: “ka”, “el” are the names of letters, [k], [l] are sounds.
Uppercase and lowercase
Which letters are uppercase and which are lowercase?
Letters are uppercase (or capital) and lowercase:
A, B, V . .. E, Yu, Z – uppercase letters,
a, b, c … e, u, z – lowercase letters .
Sometimes they say: big and small letters. But this wording is incorrect, since it means the size of the letter, and not its style. Compare: B is a large capital letter, B is a small capital letter, b is a large lowercase letter, b is a small lowercase letter.
Proper names are capitalized, the beginning of sentences, appeal to “you” with an expression of deep respect. In computer programs, the term “letter case” is used: upper case letters are typed in upper case, lower case letters are typed in lower case.
Symmetrical
In the Russian alphabet, 11 letters have vertical symmetry (with respect to the Y axis): A, D, Zh, M, N, O, P, T, F, X, Sh. The left part of the letters coincides with the right part. If the letters are rotated from right to left, then their style will not change. 7 letters have horizontal symmetry (with respect to the X axis): B, E, Z, K, C, E, Yu. The upper part of the letters coincides with the lower one. If the letters are turned upside down, then their outline will not change. Note that the lowercase e has no symmetry. Vertical and horizontal symmetry of 5 letters: Zh, N, O, F, X. These letters are called mirror. The letter And becomes symmetrical when simultaneously rotated along two axes.

Letter frequency
There is a concept of letter frequency. Frequency shows how many times a letter is used in all words of the Russian language. The more often a letter is used in speech, the higher its frequency. In Russian, the letter O has the highest frequency, the letter Yo has the smallest. This means that there are many Russian words with the letter O and very few words with the letter Y.
In Russian: letters O, E, A, I, N, T, C are often found; letters Ё, Ъ, F, E, Shch, C, Yu, Sh, Zh, X are rare; common vowels: O, E, A, I; common consonants: H, T, C, R, V, L; rare vowels: Yo, Yu; rare consonants: Ф, Ш, Ц, Ш, Ж, Х.
The word “often” means a frequency above 4%, the word “rarely” means a frequency less than 1%.
The frequency of a letter is determined by the ratio of the use of the letter itself in speech to the number of uses of all letters in the Russian language. To calculate the frequency, the formula was used: F letter = Q letter Q All , Where F is the letter – the frequency of the letter, Q letter – the number of use of the letter, q all – the number of consumption of all letters.
Materials of the National Corpus of the Russian Language were used to analyze the frequency of letters. The corpus contains information about the use of each letter of the alphabet in speech and the total number of letters used in all words of the Russian language, which is 505 266 851. Thus, the formula for calculating the frequency of a letter is reduced to the form F = Q letter 505 266 851. Below the letters of the Russian alphabet, indicating the frequency in percent.

The frequency of words according to
In linguistics there is a concept of words frequency, which determines the ratio of the stages of the word to the total number of stage in speech. Within the framework of our project, the frequency of words by letters is understood as the ratio of words beginning with the corresponding letter to the total number of words in the Russian language. The counting formula is similar to the formula for the frequency of letters: F word-letter = Q word-letter Q all words , words.
Let’s show the indicators calculated by us as a percentage for each letter. To analyze the frequency of words, the dictionary of N. Tikhonov was taken.

FAQs
AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED
We’re so proud!
Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.
SCHOOL-READY
What Learning Looks Like
Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
Solon KinderCare Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks-1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1-2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2-3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3-4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4-5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
Before- and After-School Programs (5-12 Years)
You can count on us to provide reliable care for your school-ager while you’re
at work, with safe transportation from our center to your child’s school and
back! Whether your child wants to start a drama club, build a volcano, or
create a comic book, they will have a place to follow their dreams. Your child
will start and end the day with a whole lot of fun!
School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)
Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5-12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.
Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program
Cooking Academy™ (3-12 Years)
In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!
Music Explorers™ (2-4 Years)
KinderCare families are already giving a standing ovation to our newest Learning
Adventures program: Music Explorers! Kids will learn to sing, move, listen, play
instruments, and even create their own tunes. Our original curriculum blends math,
science, social studies, literacy, and mindfulness (think yoga!) for a uniquely KinderCare
way of learning the foundations of music.
Phonics Adventures® (2-4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)
STEM Innovators (3-8 Years)
You’ve probably heard a lot about how important STEM education is for your child, but
what does that really mean? Our STEM Innovators program takes kids’ natural ability to
make sense of the world and applies it to robotics, chemistry, coding, geology, and
more. While your child experiments, they’ll discover how to use technology to do
amazing things!
Our Teachers
We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.
Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!
A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH
An Artist’s Heart
“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.
We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.
Family Stories
Don’t take our word for it. Hear what our families have to say about our amazing center!
As parents of three kids, you would think that we had it all figured out. Ask any parent of multiple kids and they’ll tell you that each one has their own personality and needs. We’ve got the law abiding one, the fiercely independent one and the happy go lucky one. We’ve had our share of terrible daycare centers as well as wonderful ones. The Solon KinderCare, fortunately for us, is one of those great ones. They have a great collection of teachers. The first time you talk to them you really get a sense that they love what they do and the kids are their top priority. Each of our kids gets that special attention you wouldn’t really expect from a relatively big class setting, but they pull it off. The current management team is top notch and really make you feel welcomed and you know that your kids will not only be taken care of but will learn like crazy. The Solon KinderCare, I believe, should be what all other centers out there should model themselves after.
Du P. – KinderCare Parent
My children and I temporarily moved to the Twinsburg area for a year and had to leave the daycare that took care of my two children for the last two years. I was so nervous about finding a day care that offered a great academic foundation as well as a warm, fun atmosphere for the kids. We found KinderCare in Solon and I can’t begin to tell you what a blessing it has been! The teachers there are fantastic! They love my children and look out for their needs as if they were their own. Each morning as I leave my children and walk out the door I am comforted knowing that I have left them with such caring, talented and wonderful teachers. The classrooms are filled with pictures of the kids doing various activities throughout the day and they have turned their classrooms into fun learning adventure zones that the kids love! I couldn’t have been happier with the environment that KinderCare created as well as the academic standards that they have provided for my children. As a teacher, I worried about my son being Kindergarten ready – now I worry that he is beyond Kindergarten ready! I truly am thankful for each teacher and the love and support they have offered our family this year. KinderCare is an amazing center with extremely caring and talented teachers. I am proud to say we are a KinderCare family!

Rabbi Binyomin Wolff, Chabad rabbi in Hanover, died April 24. He arrived in Hannover 15 years ago and helped change the Jewish landscape. He was the only rabbi for 5,000 Jews in the city.
His brother-in-law Zusche Greenberg, head of Beit Chabad in Solon, Ohio, said: “He revived the Jewish community there. He brought life there. He created a community.” “He had a Jewish school, a kindergarten, a synagogue. He did weddings. He did everything himself,” Greenberg said. He added: “What struck me most was his kindness. Rabbi Wolf was a scholar, but more than anything else, he was a kind person. Being in his presence, a person was inspired to become better.
Germany’s Chabad released a statement saying: “His passing is a terrible loss for German Jewry in general and the Jews of Hanover in particular.” He was buried on April 26, and about 15,000 spectators watched the funeral online using Zoom. “He was the first rabbi to be buried in Hanover since World War II,” Rabbi Greenberg said. He said that his widowed sister had promised that they would stay in Hanover forever.
Binyomin Wolf was born in Israel and studied there in Chabad yeshivas. He continued his studies in New York, Milan and Houston. In an obituary posted on Chabad.org, friends noted how easily Wolf got along with everyone. Soon after the wedding with his wife Stern in 2000, Wolf and she were sent to Odessa. There they learned Russian. This came in handy in 2005 when he and his young family traveled to Hannover, a city that had many Russian-speaking Jewish immigrants.
Hannover was an important rail and road hub, which made it a target for Allied bombing raids during World War II. Over 90% of the city center was destroyed during the raids. Its highway connects east-west via Berlin/Düsseldorf/Cologne and north-south via Hamburg/Frankfurt/Stuttgart/Munich. It is the capital of Lower Saxony.
Wolf was survived by his wife Stern (née Grinberg) and eight children. He was also survived by his parents, Rabbi Menni and Feiga Wolf. “This is not just a loss for the family. He was like a parent to many in the community. One of his friends said it was like losing a second father,” said Rabbi Greenberg. Wolf’s youngest child is four years old, and the oldest is 19.. “This is an unthinkable tragedy,” Rabbi Greenberg said. Chabad started a charity campaign in his memory.
