There are a huge number of institutions of higher education in the USA. A university in the USA can be called differently – a school (School of Economics), a college, an institute, and a university. It is impossible to understand by the name what kind of education this educational institution provides. Therefore, in each case, it is better to find out in advance what degrees a particular university offers.

One of the main distinguishing features is the presence or absence of research programs and a graduate program, which distinguishes a college from a university.

College in USA is an institution of higher education that is mainly engaged in student education, and scientific work, if any, remains in the background. The vast majority of 4-year colleges are small (less than 2,000 students) and private, although in recent years state colleges have begun to appear, created for the talented students of the state. Many small colleges are religious and are sometimes referred to as bible colleges. Other colleges are often called “colleges of liberal arts” to distinguish them from “colleges” – that is, universities – in general, since the former have a liberal arts bias.

Universities in the US are divided mainly into private universities and state universities (partially funded by individual state governments). Some of them are public, that is, they are supported by the federal or state government, some are private (these are the most prestigious universities), some belong to various religious denominations.

A private university is self-governed, so tuition fees tend to be higher and the number of students smaller than public ones. The most famous American universities belong to the number of private universities – Harvard University, Princeton, Yale University, Columbia University, Brown University, Dartsmouth College, Cornell University of Pennsylvania, Stanford.

Universities in the USA

AcademConsult has entered into partnership agreements with some US universities. This gives you the opportunity to receive benefits upon admission, as well as operational terms for the consideration of documents.

The presented universities provide an opportunity to get higher education in the USA at the level of bachelor’s, master’s, and also get an MBA degree in various areas.

Colleges in the USA

Along with universities, AcademConsult offers admission to US colleges, where students can receive their first higher education in various specialties.

College can also be a preparatory stage for admission to leading universities and universities. After graduating from a two-year college, you can automatically be enrolled without exams in the 2nd or 3rd year of the selected university. Practice shows that it is much easier to enter a top university in America this way!

Rep restore

Harvard Business School Harvard Business School , criticized for not teaching graduates how to cope with an economic collapse, will analyze its activities, applying the practice that it usually uses to analyze corporations in crisis.

A task force commissioned by the dean is developing a case study to analyze whether the school is doing well in teaching students to understand and manage risk in today’s environment, said Paul Healy, co-chair of the group. The case study method is a technique that Harvard uses to analyze decisions made by leaders under pressure.

219 Harvard professors will take the case study seriously at the May 27 meeting and will be able to propose changes to the program during the discussion.

“We’ll put them in their student seats,” says Healy, a professor of business administration, in an interview.

While business school officials at Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology say they have developed case studies to address the causes of the crisis, Harvard is using the collapse as an opportunity for introspection. Professors will ponder how much the school’s reputation will tarnish and debate articles critical of their school and alumni that helped set off the financial crisis, Healy said.

Harvard alumni include Stanley O’Neal and John Thain, former CEOs of Merrill Lynch & Co. who held leadership positions before the New York company collapsed; Rick Wagoner, fired as CEO of General Motors Corp.; Christopher Cox, former chairman of the SEC (U.S. Securities Exchange Commission).

Brand damaged

“I’m sure the brand is damaged to some extent,” Healy, a New Zealand native, reports from his office in Boston. – People I know very well say to my face: “You guys are partly to blame,” and I think that this is fair. Now is the time to think about the right actions we need to take.”

Professors can spend half a day meeting in groups of 90 at Aldrich Hall, Healy says, adding that these plans are not final. The Aldrich building, located in the center of the campus, was built in 1965 and has rooms designed for case discussions. The school last overhauled the program in 2004, when a required course in ethics was introduced after an accounting fraud by Enron Corp. in 2001

In 2007, before the financial crisis, business school Stanford Graduate School of Business introduced a program designed to develop critical thinking about leadership in small group classrooms instead of lectures. Dean Robert Joss May issue of Stanford Business magazine. Classes include the topic “Understanding Fraud” which looks at why people make unethical decisions.

The Yale School of Management , located in New Haven, Connecticut, launched a similar program in 2006, according to the school’s website.

At MIT Sloan School of Management in Cambridge, Massachusetts, students are taught to evaluate the impact of their actions on society, not just investors, according to Joanne Yates, Associate Dean.

“We would like our students to know not only quantitative tools after graduation, but also how to infiltrate the whole world of finance,” she says. “And we don’t want them all to think it’s just numbers games.”

Schools need to consider how they teach and whether students can learn to make decisions based on intuition, not just numbers, explains Louis Lataif, Dean of Business School Boston University School of Management and graduate of 1964 . Harvard Business School.

Scarlet Letters of Shame

“There is now a certain awareness that we may be part of the problem,” says Latef. – Education means much more than learning how to calculate the balance sheet. Maybe the piece that is missing is not another ethics course, but the ability to think beyond the data and take action based on useful instincts.”

Harvard Business School degrees are now “the scarlet letters of disgrace,” wrote alumnus Philip Delves Broughton in the first column of the March issue of the Sunday Times of London: “From time to time, from scandal to scandal, it seems that the school, which graduates only 900 students a year, found itself in the thick of things.

Founded 101 years ago, Harvard Business School has 200 faculty members and nearly 1,800 MBA students.

Tyne fired

Under O’Neill, a 1978 graduate, Merrill Lynch lost more than $30 billion before it was taken over by Bank of America Corp., based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Tyne, an O’Neill follower who graduated from high school in 1979, was removed from office after spending $1.2 million to renovate his office. Detroit-based General Motors Corp. fell more than 9% in New York trading.0% from its peak under Wagoner, a 1977 graduate of Harvard Business School who quit on March 29 under pressure from US President Barack Obama.

Cox chaired the SEC from 2005 until January of this year, until the SEC went bankrupt, under his leadership investing in the Bernard Madoff scam. Cox graduated from Harvard Business School in 1977.

While the school may share a measure of responsibility for the decisions of its graduates, “there are quite a few charges that can be thrown in different directions,” according to W. Carl Kester , Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs.

The school is credited for raising Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co. based in New York; Robert Kapito, President of New York investment firm BlackRock Inc. and other alumni who show leadership qualities and whose financial companies have survived, Kester said.

Errors in judgment

Many graduates involved in failure were in school 20 or 30 years ago, before classes in risk management, macroeconomics and leadership were in demand, Kester says.

“There have been curriculum changes that I hope will inoculate students who graduate in the last 5 or 10 years and beyond,” he says. “I hope they will be less prone to some errors in judgment.”

Introduced in 1925, the case-study method shows students the details of the predicaments managers face. Often there is no single right answer, and case studies are used to stimulate discussion, Kester says. The group can consider 25-30 cases per semester.

Hundreds of cases

A student can study a total of 600 cases, according to Joseph Badaracco, program manager for the MBA. Most cases stay in the curriculum for three or four years, he adds. Others, such as the 1982 Tylenol drug withdrawal case by Johnson & Johnson of New Brunswick, New Jersey, have been in use for decades. Some companies, such as General Electric Co., based in Fairfield, Connecticut, and Google Inc., based in Mountain View, California, are very popular topics that are taught repeatedly, says he.

Harvard Business School professors write about 350 cases a year and in 2008 sold 8.2 million copies of cases to be adapted into business classes around the world, according to the school’s website. Case sales generated $29.2 million in 2008, or 6.4% of the school’s turnover, according to the annual report.

Professors have written case studies that will be taught in this year’s courses to highlight the lessons of the global crisis. Topics include the takeover of Bear Stearns Cos. by JPMorgan and the lack of accounting controls at New Century Financial Corp., an Irvine, Calif., lender to unreliable borrowers that filed for bankruptcy in April 2007. Other cases were written to spark discussion on the topic of fair-price accounting. and the role of companies with a credit rating.

Lecture Series

Jay Light, dean of the school, formed a working group in November led by Healy and Peter Tufano, professor of finance. They were tasked with educating faculty and students about the economic shift.

The group has already created a series of seminars for professors and initiated a series of lectures for students. The school also hosted a three-day alumni program that brought together 90 former students.

In February, the group began developing a case to present to the teaching staff. The result could be a set of recommendations for Light that could be implemented within a year, Healy says.

One of the changes that could emerge is more in general management and economics classes, which bring together broad topics about risk and responsibility, rather than function-specific courses such as marketing, Healy says.

“Are there things we can work on better? he asks. – What are we teaching? It comes to mind that we teach to better understand risks, better understand risk management. We teach this, but maybe not as much as we should.”

Easy to teach

Harvard currently requires first-year MBA students to study Business, Government and International Economics and Leadership and Corporate Responsibility.

Until this year, some students and teachers were skeptical about the courses, says Laura Alfaro, who teaches international economics. “They thought it was a course to take, but it really doesn’t matter,” she says. “I don’t know if they still think the same way now, but they realize they can’t talk about it out loud. We are now in a position where it is very easy to teach this course.”

Why Russian-language schools operate mainly on the coasts of the USA

Natalia, you have been included in the 100 most influential women in Silicon Valley. As a ferryman of crops or for something else?

Natalya Venzon: I don’t think it’s possible to separate a business from a person’s personality. By profession I am a teacher, teacher of English and German. When I moved to California, I first saw a bank card, did not know the basics of the economy. My patient husband taught me how to build a business from scratch. Now we have 17 different companies, including a construction company. Only thanks to this, we were able to open the school, purchase its own building for it, renovate it, equip it with the latest technology, create a professional theater stage with light and sound, plant an orchard, which is looked after by children. Now we have children from more than 100 families. If not for the pandemic, then exchange programs with Russian teachers and schoolchildren would already be working.

Just in time for the pandemic, the Association of Russian Schools in the USA was born. Did remote work push or was the topic of unification long overdue?

Natalya Venzon: At the annual conference of Russian schools at the Russian Cultural Center in Washington, DC, this issue arose, but there was no driving force that would unite. Rossinka became such an organizer with the support of the Coordinating Council of Organizations of Russian Compatriots in the USA.

What does the association do?

Natalya Venzon: At the first “round tables” in 2020, we decided how to go online, what platforms and programs to use, how to keep teachers, how to save our schools. After all, until March last year, say, the same Zoom was involved in the educational process by only 5-10 percent.

Have you tried to find support from the big learning platforms in Russia?

Natalya Venzon: We have signed a cooperation agreement with the Pushkin Institute (Moscow), St. Petersburg State University offers a huge amount of resources to help teachers teaching Russian as a foreign language or working with bilingual children.

How many schools are in the Association?

Natalya Venzon: Now she unites more than 40 Russian schools all over America.

How does education in Russian work in the USA? Are there government programs?

Natalia Venzon: In the USA there is no unified educational system, each state has its own rules for public schools, and private ones can generally establish their own, subject to the requirements of the license, of course.

In large cities and conglomerates on the west and east coasts, where there are many Russian-speaking families with higher education, there are enough private kindergartens, schools, schools of additional education and circles. There is no such diversity in the central and rural areas. There are also historically established places of compact residence of Russians, including religious settlements with their own rules and traditions.

Who finances public education institutions?

Natalia Venzon: Financing directly depends on local taxes. Thus, the demands and needs of the inhabitants of certain areas influence school programs, and certain languages may appear in them as foreign languages, forming a real bilingual or immersive education. And representatives of the Russian-speaking diaspora in some states have managed to achieve this for the Russian language.

There are such schools in Portland (Oregon), Alaska (Anchorage), in California there is a Russian school in the state capital – the city of Sacramento. But the need for such programs has to be justified and defended all the time, that is, a change in the composition of the population or a budget constraint can lead to a reduction in these programs and vice versa.

Is it easier for private schools in this respect?

Natalya Venzon: Teaching programs in private schools depend on the requests of parents, so the appearance of the Russian language will not surprise anyone. Nevertheless, there will be no single program in this case either. The criterion for evaluating the effectiveness of the program is the internal tests of the school, as well as the accreditation of the program by an independent commission or an independent test at the state or country level. For example, our Rossinka School has received WASC (West Coast Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation for all of its programs and classes, which means that the school program meets the requirements of the State of California and the entire region.

For high school students (from 15 years old) there is NEWL (National Foreign Language Examination). The results of this exam are accepted for admission to many colleges and universities. Rossinka graduates will take this exam in May 2021. In addition, you can take exams conducted by the Pushkin Institute for both foreigners studying Russian and bilingual children.

Portland’s bilingual schools work closely with the University of Portland to develop their programs around state requirements.

We, in turn, are planning similar work with the departments of Slavic studies at Stanford and Berkeley.

What opportunities do Russian-speaking professionals in Silicon Valley have to teach their children their native language?

Natalya Venzon: 20 years ago, when I moved to Silicon Valley, there were two home kindergartens with Russian-speaking owners and, accordingly, the Russian language, as well as one large kindergarten with groups familiar to us. Now there are two large network kindergartens and a lot of home groups. In addition to “Rossinka”, there is a private school in San Francisco with the study of the Russian language.

Does Rossinka work like a Sunday school?

Natalia Venzon: No, we work six days a week. On weekdays, before lunch, there is a bilingual school program (that is, English and Russian – 50 to 50 in Kindergarten (as the first grade is called in the USA, which children go to when they reach the age of 5. – Approx. ed.), then in the third grade this ratio already 90 to 10, but in the extended day group all subjects are studied in Russian. There is also a Saturday school for those who live far away and can only come once a week.

10 percent of study time at school is in Russian… And what do you expect at the end?

Natalya Venzon: Undoubtedly, 10 percent is not enough. But there are extended-day groups with full immersion in the Russian language, an intensive summer program with teachers from Russia … However, our goal is not the language as such, but the study of culture, literature, history. We want children to know their roots and be proud of them.

There is a unique situation in Silicon Valley. The largest IT companies such as Google, Apple, Facebook, scientific giants and start-ups are hiring specialists from all over the world. The valley is a real melting pot of different cultures and nationalities. Intercultural children’s and adults’ festivals, fairs and events, in which Rossinki children and adults take an active part, are a way to introduce all the beauty that is in Slavic cultures. And our annual New Year theatrical performances, which bring together hundreds of families, and not only Russian-speaking ones. We have American fans. Our philosophy and motto – mutual understanding of cultures leads to peace on Earth.

In the current situation it sounds a bit declarative…

Natalya Venzon: And I am convinced that our children will be able to negotiate better with each other than we, their parents, are now negotiating.

Clearly, people’s diplomacy and so on. But now is a pragmatic time. What is the motivation of parents who are not going to return to Russia, to strain their children also with the Russian language?

Natalya Venzon: Yes, there are children who say: “I’m an American and I don’t need a Russian.” This is a definite challenge for parents and teachers – not to convince the child that he is obliged to learn Russian, but to arouse sincere interest and love for the language and culture. To read the classics and contemporaries in the original, to communicate freely with Russian-speaking peers and relatives.

Our “sponsors” – parents also do not need to explain that a second and even a third language is a big plus when entering a university. By the way, the personnel departments of large IT companies highly value knowledge of the Russian language, as they work with the Russian-speaking market. In the USA and in Silicon Valley, in particular, there are many immigrants not only from Russia, but from all countries – the former republics of the Soviet Union, as well as Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, where they studied Russian. Thus, a large number of children already somehow speak or understand Russian. You don’t need to learn from scratch, take it and develop it, in addition to academic lessons, you can provide powerful language support at home. In addition, parents appreciate the opportunity to study the exact sciences in Russian – lessons usually and Olympiad mathematics, physics and chemistry are very popular.

Against the backdrop of the sanctions policy, and sometimes Russophobia in the United States, presenting your Russianness, do you run the risk of becoming an outcast in society?

Natalia Venzon: Absolutely not. But here I can only speak for myself. Neither our school nor our parents have felt the ill will of the American population. On the contrary, our programs and our mission to build bridges between countries and educate global citizens are supported. For example, we receive grants from US companies, citizens and Rotary International.

Your husband, a serious American businessman, didn’t consider the opening of a Russian school a woman’s whim?

Natalya Venzon: I come from a family of hereditary teachers: my mother is a mathematics teacher, my father was a school director for many years. Even before the birth of the first child, it was decided that Russian would be the first language for our children. The husband takes their education very seriously, as well as the education and social responsibility of the business as a whole. Therefore, the project of creating a Russian school was not my whim, but a conscious decision of the family. I headed it as the most competent person in this area. In addition, it was my dream, it added strength and enthusiasm, helped me overcome the difficulties of the first years of my life in the USA.

Opinion

Natalia Venzon lives in Silicon Valley. We often call this place Silicon Valley. How is it right anyway?

Levon Sahakyan, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Russian Linguistics at the Pushkin Institute, offered his explanation. In his opinion, it is correct – Silicon Valley: “To understand why the form “Silicon Valley” is the norm in Russian, it is worth referring to the meaning of the words: silicone is a polymer, and silicon is a crystal, a material that is used in the creation of computers and microchips In English, the words “silicon” and “silicone” differ in only one letter: silicon and silicone, respectively, the reason for the erroneous version is in an inaccurate translation.

Tour our facilities, meet our teachers and see for yourself why we are a top-rated school providing academic excellence and an accelerated foundation for your child.

“We love Kids ‘R’ Kids. The staff and teachers are so caring and professional. Right away they knew us by name and have always been willing to accommodate our needs. The school is so clean– they are always cleaning something! My son has been going there for almost a year now. My son loves his teachers and his new friends. I also like that the teachers make time to listen to my concerns and give me updates on my son’s progress and well being. It’s hard being away from my baby, but knowing he’s in good hands makes it easier.”
– N. Lehman
“I love this daycare! My daughter had been going for over a year and she had learned so much! The best part is that they have cameras in each classroom so you can see you child whenever you would like to check in. I definitely recommend this daycare to all of my friends who have kids.”
– M. Johnson

Is it safe to track the location of children through popular Android apps? / Habr

If you are collecting a first-grader for school, then there is probably a smart watch with GPS on the checklist. With the convenience and peace of mind for parents, everything is clear, but are they so harmless from the point of view of information security?

Here’s a simple example from personal experience: a couple of weeks ago, my son was given a GPS watch for his birthday. Almost immediately after registering (by email) in the application, without which this watch is not needed, tons of spam in Chinese began to arrive in the mail. But this is nonsense against the backdrop of a recent study by the Cybernews team.

Popular Android apps with over 85 million installs have been found to spy on parents (which, ironically, spy on children), and some even contain links to malicious websites. Experts believe that providing data about children to third-party providers is not so safe.

According to a 2021 survey, half of US parents use parental control apps, and in the UK at least 40% use GPS tracking of children. In Russia, the numbers are hardly noticeably smaller. Parents can also be understood, everyone probably remembers the cracks received for going “to Kolka” after school, and the mother had already called hospitals and morgues.

Still, tracking children’s locations can be a double-edged sword. While parents are using baby spying apps, the apps are collecting their data. What, in theory, should provide security, in fact, does not always meet the standards of this very security.

Some fun statistics

Researchers found that 4 out of 10 popular apps contained malicious links, and none of the Android apps reviewed received the highest rating for privacy.

Jason Glassberg, co-founder of Casaba Security, a cybersecurity and ethical hacking company, reports that tracking apps don’t just violate children’s privacy, but can even expose children’s information to unauthorized users. That is, at best, strangers can access your child’s personal data, and even commit malicious acts.

Trusted by millions, but in vain

A team of researchers analyzed 10 Android apps from the Google Play store designed to track children or other family members. Although it is impossible to determine the exact number of installs of all these applications combined due to the limitations of Google’s indicators, data from open sources speaks of more than 85 million. Each of the apps reviewed has been installed over a million times, with the most popular having over 50 million installs.

The team used the Mobile Security Framework (MobSF), an open source general application security analysis tool, to assess the security and privacy of selected applications to track.

In the area of security, the score ranges from 0 to 100, with a hundred being the most desirable result. The level of privacy in the MobSF structure is expressed in letters and ranges from A to F, with A indicating the most desirable level.

7 out of 10 apps scored a 4 for privacy and 2 got a 3. One app with over 50 million installs, Phone Tracker By Number (6.28), received the lowest score, indicating a “critical risk”.

The worst-rated app, ranked 47th free app in the social category in the US, exhibited highly questionable security practices such as exposing Android’s implicit intent. For example, installing an app exposes Android components (such as handling broadcast messages) that allow other apps on that device to use those public components to send and receive data. That is, the information collected by Phone Tracker By Number can be accessed by other applications on the device, which opens up many opportunities for scammers. For example, a malicious app on a device could theoretically access tracking app data and tell the attacker the whereabouts of a child being tracked by a parent.

Researchers have suggested that due to an insecure implementation of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate handling, the application is vulnerable to man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks. This means that attackers are embedded between the sender and recipient of data. For example, the developers of Phone Tracker By Number or attackers could theoretically monitor the traffic passing through the application.

Find Your Phone GPS tracker 5.29.2 (over 10 million installs), KidsControl family GPS tracker (k5.3.6) (over 1 million installs) and FamiSafe parental control app (over 1 million installs) are also considered vulnerable to MITM attacks.

Organizations developing stand-alone tracking applications may well decide to save money and use third-party code from open source libraries or use custom features created by other developers, so don’t expect them to worry too much about code security. It’s like a cheap sausage – you never know what it’s actually made of.

Outsourcing child data

Interestingly, all of the analyzed applications had built-in third-party trackers designed to track children. This means that data is collected from both sides, not only from children, but also from parents. And why be surprised if the main purpose of the application is to violate privacy.

An application can easily use the collected data for malicious purposes if the company that created it is not too clean. As a result, if the application is hacked, everything from a confidential photo sent through the application to passwords and other personal data can be disclosed. The data obtained can be used in a variety of ways from targeted advertising to monitoring.

One has only to chart the organizations that end up buying and reselling this information from the application company and its third-party components to realize that there is a huge ecosystem for even a small application. So parents should think about it.

Nine trackers were found in two applications: Find my kids 1.9.5 (10 million installs) and GPS Tracker & Find Your Phone 5.29.2. Family GPS locator from Familo 2. 70.6 (over 1 million installs) had eight trackers. Two more, My Family locator, GPS tracker (over 5 million installs) and FamiSafe 5.7.0.204 had seven trackers. Phone Tracker by Number 6.2.8 had six trackers, MMGuardian Parent App 3.6.77 (over 1 million installs) had five, Pingo by Findmykids 2.4.83 (over 5 million installs) had three, and only two trackers are present in family GPS tracker KidsControl (k5.3.6).

Developers periodically change the names of applications in the Google Play store, so keep in mind that the above are only relevant at the time of writing.

Weak security

Looking inside popular tracking applications, the team found that they all store hard-coded application programming interface (API) keys. Typically, API keys are used for authentication so that applications can recognize individual users and vice versa. Storing API keys can lead to security issues if an attacker finds a way to gain access to them.

The Familo Find my Phone family GPS locator had the most: four API keys hardcoded into the app. Four applications had three, and the remaining two had two.

Most hard-coded API keys were intended to protect application data, not the most useful and sensitive information for attackers. However, some hard-coded API keys may be responsible for protecting user data.

For example, the “Account Kit Client” token was hard-coded in Phone Tracker by Number. Giving this “master key” to an attacker can result in the loss of sensitive user data. Find my Phone also had a potentially sensitive API key.

Four out of ten applications tested contain links that may be considered malicious. Although this does not mean that the application is infected with malware, links within the application may lead users to sites with malware.

For example, FamiSafe (parental control app) contained two malicious links, Phone Tracker by Number, Find my kids, KidsControl each had one potentially malicious link.

Is it worth it?

Until the human factor can be excluded from the creation of tracking applications, absolute security cannot be guaranteed. So, ultimately, parents will have to weigh the pros and potential risks themselves. In general, according to experts, child safety apps justify themselves, but you should be careful about the software you download. For example, to start reading reviews.

How do you feel about tracking children with GPS trackers?

Where is the child? Smart watches, apps and trackers will tell you

Imagine: you went to the mall with the whole family, got distracted for a minute, and the child disappeared somewhere. With luck, he is waiting where he lost sight of you, but what if he himself went looking for you and wandered off to who knows where?

Or: lessons ended an hour ago, five minutes from school to home, and the child never returned. Of course, he could go out with classmates and forgot to warn, but what if someone took him away on the way home?

It’s hard not to worry when you don’t know where your child is. Most likely, it will later turn out that everything is in order with him, but no one will restore your nerves. However, today this problem is not so difficult to solve, because there are many child trackers with which you will always know where the child is. Let’s see what options there are for tracking the location of children so that you can choose the appropriate option.

Types of baby trackers

Let’s make a reservation right away: trackers are different, and it is impossible to say unequivocally that one type is better than another. The choice here depends on the age of the child, on whether he walks alone or only with you, whether he has a smartphone, and so on. After all, it is one thing to make sure that the baby does not ride too far on the scooter during your walk together, and it is quite another to look after an independent and freedom-loving teenager.

Radio beacons for the little ones

If your child is still small and you don’t let him go for a walk alone (or let him go, but only near the house), a radio beacon that can be found within a radius of several hundred meters may be enough for you. When the baby is lost, it is enough to press the button on the remote control, and the beacon will start emitting sound signals. Some models allow you to set an alarm if the child moves away from the remote control at a distance greater than the permitted.

Unlike GPS trackers, which determine the location with an accuracy of several meters, such beacons allow you to quickly find a child in a small area, even in a crowded (though not very noisy) place. On the other hand, if the child has time to go far from the remote control, the connection with the beacon will be lost.

Benefits of baby beacons :

  • Easy to use.
  • Compact.
  • Works well in a small area.
  • The most budget option.

Disadvantages of children’s radio beacons :

  • Short range.
  • No panic button.
  • Not effective in noisy environments.

GPS trackers: key chains, pendants, clothespins

If your child is already walking or going to school on his own, you will need a GPS tracker. The lightest and most compact options are key rings, pendants and clip-on trackers. They can be worn as decoration or attached to a child’s backpack and clothes. If desired, such a device is easy to hide from prying eyes, and some models are fixed so that they are almost impossible to remove.

The functionality of mini trackers varies from device to device. The simplest ones allow you to track the location of the child and set the boundaries of the territory in which he should be at one time or another. If he leaves a safe area (for example, school or home), you will immediately receive a notification.

Many trackers have an SOS button – it’s big and noticeable (and often the only one on the device). In case of danger, even a baby can press it, and you will immediately receive a notification with its coordinates. Some models will send an audio recording from the microphone along with the alarm so that you can assess what is happening around the child. Also, if the tracker has a built-in microphone, audio can also be requested from the parent app.

Some devices have unique features. For example, one of the trackers known to us, in addition to the location of the child, is able to determine which of the relatives he is currently with. Another device in the parent app uses augmented reality to help you navigate. If you look around through the tracker application, it will show in which direction the child is.

The main disadvantage of key chains and clothespins is that if your child leaves a backpack or a jacket to which the tracker is attached and runs away to play, you will see the location of things, not the child. An older student can deliberately get rid of the tracker so that they do not follow him – he will not have the motivation to keep the gadget with him.

In addition, GPS trackers are relatively expensive and require an Internet connection over a cellular network to operate. So you will also have to be puzzled by the monthly subscription fee.

Pros of children’s GPS trackers :

  • Easy to use.
  • Compact.
  • There is a panic button.
  • Attach securely.

Disadvantages of children’s GPS trackers :

  • Can be removed with clothes or backpack.

Smart watch for a child

A smart watch, unlike key fob trackers, is worn by a child on his wrist. That is, lying where he threw a backpack or jacket, they most likely will not. In addition, as a rule, the set of functions in them is wider: using the watch, you can make calls, including video calls, send SMS, count steps, play educational games, and so on. So, such a gadget is more interesting for children – this is a huge plus.

When in danger, a child can press the panic button in the same way, and in case someone tries to take the watch away from him or he loses it himself, some models of watches have a built-in sensor for removing from the hand. Another important advantage of such devices (compared to a telephone) is that even in a noisy environment, the child will not miss a call.

One of the popular gadgets to help keep track of the location of the child is a children’s smart watch. Accordingly, the quality of devices and applications for them varies greatly. Therefore, before buying a gadget, study user reviews.

Some models, for example, have problems with location stability, cell signal loss and other bugs. And more recently, it turned out that millions of children’s watches from different brands are generally not protected from cybercriminals. Anyone can find out the location of the child, the history of his movements and other personal information, or even hijack the parent’s account and impersonate him.

Do not forget about the safety of the device itself. Remember that the child will wash their hands, fall and play without removing the watch. So if the model is not sufficiently shockproof or waterproof, it will quickly become unusable. At the same time, most gadgets are not cheap, and again, you will have to pay a subscription fee to connect.

Advantages of a smart watch for a child :

  • Always with a child.
  • There is a panic button.

Cons of a smart watch for a child :

  • Some models don’t work well.
  • Not cheap.

Smartphone app

If you have an older child who already has their own smartphone, the most affordable and convenient way to look after them is with a dedicated app. A teenager will not have to carry an extra device with him, and you will not have to spend money on it. In app stores, you can find trackers without additional features. However, a full-fledged parental control program would be a much more universal solution. It will allow you not only to know where the child is, but also to monitor his safety online, and at the same time solve the problem of gadget abuse.

Google Play and the App Store offer both completely free parental control applications and inexpensive licenses and subscriptions. The first ones are more profitable for the family budget, but the set of functions in them is most likely limited. And if the authors of a free app make money from ads, you should keep in mind that adware can be very careless with your data.

In general, when choosing both devices and programs, it is worth remembering cybersecurity. Therefore, we recommend looking for information about the manufacturer before buying or downloading anything. If vulnerabilities have recently been found in its products that have not yet been fixed, it is better to abandon it. And even better – immediately choose a reliable solution from a well-known manufacturer that pays due attention to security.

Pros of baby location apps :

  • Inexpensive.
  • Installed on the child’s mobile device.
  • Many useful features besides location tracking.

Cons of baby tracking apps :

  • Smartphone or tablet required.

Keeping your child safe is easy

As you can see, it’s not that hard to avoid worrying about where your child is. There are many devices and applications that will tell you about its location. The main thing is to approach the choice responsibly and explain to the child why the tracker will simplify life for him too. And it will be possible with a calm heart to give him the necessary level of freedom.

How to find out where the child is without looking up

Children grow up fast. Until recently, the baby took the first steps, holding on to your hand, and now he is already going to school, enrolling in hobby groups, running away for a walk with friends, asking not to see him off. It’s getting harder to keep an eye on him. For example, you do not know for sure whether he attends club classes or skips them.

And even if he treats them responsibly, you should not discount the dangers of the big city. A teenager left to himself can contact bad people, wander into an industrial zone or an abandoned construction site, get lost in an unfamiliar area.

How geofencing helps to monitor the safety of the child

Some parents, fearing for the safety of their children, limit their freedom: they forbid going out with friends, take them to school by the hand almost until graduation. This is not the best way out: excessive guardianship is a difficult test for a teenager’s self-esteem and his reputation among his peers, moreover, a dependent adult will grow out of a dependent child.

Fortunately, in today’s world there are modern solutions to this problem. Now it is easy to keep abreast and ensure the safety of children without interfering in their lives. And it’s not necessarily about total surveillance.

For example, our parental control app, Kaspersky Safe Kids, has a geofencing feature called Location Control. It works like this: you specify where the child needs or is safe to be at a certain time of the day. If he goes beyond the boundaries of this territory, for example, runs away from classes or for some reason goes to the forest park late at night, the application will send you a notification and you can quickly take the necessary measures.

How to set up geofencing in Kaspersky Safe Kids

To use the geofencing feature, you need to allow Kaspersky Safe Kids access to the location on your child’s phone. Otherwise, the application simply will not be able to find out where it is. After that, you will need to turn on the location of the child from your device. You can do this in your account on the My Kaspersky portal.

  • Login to your account and open the section Children .
  • Select child profile and click Enable – tab 9 opens0087 Where is my child? .
  • Enable option Location control and save the settings by clicking the button at the bottom of the window.

How to enable location control in Kaspersky Safe Kids

You can also enable child location in the parent version of the mobile app:

  • Open the child’s profile.
  • Press Enable location control .
  • Enable option Position control .

You can now track your child’s location. To receive notifications when he left the safe territory, indicate where he can be at one time or another. This may be the school grounds or the playground in front of the house, where he walks with friends. To do this, on the My Kaspersky portal:

  • Open the tab Where is my child? and click on the button Add perimeter .
  • Mark on the map an area that is safe for the child.
  • Set the time at which he must not leave the area.

How to set up safe zones in Kaspersky Safe Kids

In the mobile app:

  • Open the tab Settings .
  • Select Location settings .
  • Click Add perimeter .
  • Set the area where the child is safe and the time when he should be there.

Now, if the child’s smartphone is outside the selected area at the specified time, Kaspersky Safe Kids will notify you about it. The application will also warn you if the battery is about to run out on the child’s device – this will save you unnecessary worries due to the fact that the child suddenly disappeared from the connection.

Other features of Kaspersky Safe Kids

In general, our parental control application has a lot of useful features. For example, we recently wrote how you can use Kaspersky Safe Kids to protect your child from endless phone use. The app also allows you to control which sites your child visits. We will cover these and other useful features in future posts.

How to track the location of a child? 4 main ways to find out where your child is

Every parent wants to be sure that everything is in order with their child. But at the same time, the children themselves are in no hurry to tell mom and dad about their lives, going for walks to dangerous places without permission, meeting with suspicious companies, or simply coming home at the wrong time and not answering the phone. To ensure the safety of a son or daughter, it is better to prepare – and buy a special device. We have collected the best location-based smartwatches for kids in one article.

The easiest and most effective way to track your baby’s location is with a smart watch. But there are other options as well.

Children’s smart watch with location tracking

Almost all models of smart watches for children support geolocation.

How to track your child by smart watch:

  • Open the companion app for this smart watch installed on your smartphone;
  • Make a geolocation request;
  • Please wait for a while, from a few seconds to 2-3 minutes depending on the model.

The place will be marked on the map.

Via mobile phone

Tracking by mobile phone number is offered by all major mobile operators. The only “but” – it is almost always paid. In addition, when determining the location by mobile phone number, GSM triangulation technology is used, so that the accuracy of the determination is from 50–100 meters.

Operators offer the following services:

  • MTS – Parental Control;
  • “Beeline” – “Coordinates and locator”;
  • “Megafon” – “Radar”;
  • “Tele2” – “Geopoisk”.

All services work through the installation of an application on your smartphone and require prior configuration.

How to track your child by phone:

  • You and your child must have the same operator;
  • Download the required application;
  • Log in with your username and password;
  • Add tracking phone number;
  • You may need to confirm tracking via SMS to the tracking number.

You will then be able to receive location information.

Location app

If your child uses an Android or iOS (Apple iPhone) smartphone, you can find out where they are without paying subscriptions or purchasing devices. You only need to know the login and password of the account on the device of your daughter or son.

For iPhone:

  • Open iCloud on your computer and go to Find My;
  • Enter your account login and password;
  • Select a device.

For android:

  • Go to https://www.google.com/android/find;
  • Enter your account login and password if necessary;
  • Select a device.

The smartphone must be connected to the Internet – mobile or Wi-Fi.

In addition, you can pre-install a special application such as the tracker “Where’s My Kids” or GeoLocator. It will require pre-configuration. Apple smartphones can also use Family Link. The application will need to be given special access.

By phone number

Tracking by phone number also requires pre-configuration and is carried out through the applications of telecom operators indicated in the “Via mobile phone” section. Or you can install the app.

Thus, all methods require preliminary preparation. But the safety of the child should always be taken care of in advance, and not panic at the last moment. Therefore, we recommend that you purchase a smart watch, a GPS locator or subscribe to a service from an operator before some unpleasant incident occurs.

Convenient application

If a child goes to primary school and returns home by himself, then you can find out exactly where the child is, whether he reached home

😢

Hello, developer, I saw what kind of messages you are replying to the reviews of parents . .. I’m a little freaked out, I’m very grateful that my parents didn’t download the family link for me. I sit on tik tok and read the reviews of the parents who downloaded it. There they write like “my son asked me to buy a rope, soap and a knife
I’m glad that he started doing needlework “they don’t understand that because of this, children go to kill themselves, cut their hands and hang themselves, this is a disgusting application!

Hello! We have the KID SECURITY app, not FAMILY LINK.

The promise is not fulfilled!

The application is paid. Listen to the sounds around the child are paid. This feature is not available for iPhone. But promises through the roof!
In fact, I can’t do anything in this application.

You can see the baby’s location and listen to sounds around the baby.

The company “Where are my children” has released an application for Apple Watch that shows geolocation, displays statistics on steps and sends a sound signal to the parent in case of an alarm, the company’s press service reported. It is installed on the watch of the child and the smartphone of the parent. This is the first application whose integration with Apple Watch has been approved by Apple.

Denis Savosin

Now the application works without being tied to the phone. According to the company, it’s the first tracker app for the Apple Watch that doesn’t need to sync with an Apple smartphone.

Users of “Where are my kids”, in addition to determining the exact geolocation of the child, have access to the functionality of analyzing the activity of the child and controlling his environment, monitoring application usage statistics, preventing the use of unwanted applications and content.

The Find My Kids app for Apple Watch also includes a panic button for emergencies. After the child presses it, information with geolocation data is immediately displayed on the parent’s smartphone.

In addition to the child safety features, there are also educational activities. The parent creates them on his own or chooses from those that the application offers him. The child, completing tasks, earns virtual stars, which can be exchanged for rewards or praise from parents. Tasks from the service are created by a team of methodologists, taking into account the age of the children.

In the future, it is planned to add data on the time that the child spends in the gadget, statuses on the child’s physical activity, his screen time and completed tasks to the functionality of the application on the watch.

In the spring of 2021, Apple representatives came up with a proposal to the developers of Find My Kids to integrate the application’s functions not only into Apple smartphones, but also into the company’s new watches, the press service said. As a result of the joint work, the application “Where are my children” for smart watches appeared. The company’s solution was the first to pass moderation, the first among the security applications segment.

According to the developers, this technology will be of interest, first of all, to Western users, since Apple Watch with an electronic SIM card is available on their territory. The company expects that the application will increase the number of American and Western European users of the service.

The manufacturer of family trackers, the Russian company “Where are my children”, develops a service that, using a mobile application on a child’s phone or watch, allows parents to be calmer about their children. According to the company’s own data, the application is used by more than 3 million parents in 170 countries. Is a resident of Skolkovo.

Aqms a new mom I had my own fear leaving my son at a daycare not knowing what to except. It’s our 1st time and we are very Happy with Abby! She provides a family environment and treats our kids like her own, my son is so happy with her, always playing with her, and learning new skills! I can tellwhen I come pick him! He eats and sleep very well with her, she sends me often videos and pictures of him eating and sleeping. I don’t mind her going to pick her own kids at school with my son in 1/2 mile away because she asked and we have an agreement. I leave next door and can show up anytime she doesnt mind! I never had any bad surprise and me and my husband are thankful because she is a blessing!…

Christine’s Family Daycare

I don’t even know how to narrow down all of the reasons our family loves and appreciates Christine. She has been so much more to our family than a typical daycare provider, and been more like a family member that took away all of my fears of putting my first child in daycare to return to work fulltime.
We absolutely adore “Miss Tine”. My son was with her from age 2 – 4. I interviewed several people when looking for childcare. When I met Christine, I didn’t look any further. I knew right away she was the right fit for us.
I had done another part-time daycare prior to, and took him out immediately because he obviously hated it. He would start to scream as soon as we entered the parking lot.
The first day I left him with Christine, he cried for a minute or 2… if that… and I received a picture from Christine before I even left her neighborhood of him playing and having fun with all of his new friends. By the end of the first week, he didn’t even seem to care that I left. She completely took away all of those fears a first time mother has. He loved being there and we still keep in touch and talk often.
I have recently had my second child and I already know where he will be going to daycare….. when I am ready for my baby to be a big boy. ((lol))…

First Step Day Care

My son has been going to First Step Day Care since he was four months old, he is now 2. Ms. Zeba has provided excellent care for him. Every day he comes home with a big smile on his face singing songs that he has learned. Ms. Zeba is patient, kind, and treats children like they are her own. Iwould recommend her to anyone who is looking for a daycare provider that will take excellent care of their child….

Nahom’s Family Child Care

I was fortunate to raise my daughter for 8 months before enrolling her in daycare. As a first-time mom, I was nervous, scared, and worried to take this step. My fears flew out the window when I saw the bond between Ms. Shelly and my daughter. She taught her so much and still learning. By the timeshe turned one, she knew her manners and interacted with us at a completely different level. Ms. Shelly is great, I am truly thankful to find someone to help raise my daughter. She is very kind and loving towards parents and kids. The area is always clean and tidy, even after a long day….

Description:

Kids Kingdom Child Care and Learning Center values early childhood education as the foundation for lifelong learning. We offer child care services from 6 weeks to 5 years old. We also offer before and aftercare program for school age kids. We believe that each child is a unique individual and should be viewed, respected and treated as such. As the welfare and well-being of each child is paramount, we strive to provide holistic support of the child’s exclusive requirements and interests in a nurturing, familial environment that fosters the child’s development across all developmental domains.
We believe that the child develops in an orderly manner by passing through stages of development, which occur in predictable sequential fashion according to his or her physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. We provide experiences in dramatic play, math, art, science, music, language, pre-reading and pre-writing. These experiences nurture and facilitate growth at each stage of a child’s development.
Verbal skills are encouraged through group discussions and through one-on-one conversations between teacher and child and among children. These verbal activities enable children to develop the critical-thinking skills necessary to further learning. One of the teacher’s roles in this process is to ask the right questions at the right time to spark the interest and desire to pursue a line of inquiry.
Partnerships with families provide us with invaluable information relating to cultural backgrounds and heritage. Our teachers strive to build the relationships with families based on co-operation and a mutual respect for the reciprocal roles that each play in the lives of the children. Partnerships with families are developed through daily discussions, newsletters and meetings. Moreover, The Kids Kingdom open door policy aims to facilitate an open flow of communication while maintaining confidentiality and respect of the privacy and wishes of each family, resulting in the highest levels of customer service. Partnerships with industry professionals assist staff development and expansion of the curriculum to meet the individual and collective needs of all children. Needs based on cultural identity, additional support education and medical interventions which all require greater individual knowledge and supported cooperative teams, assures all children are facilitated in an inclusive environment as best as possible.

Diversity Cultivates Their
Successful Global Mindset

In a diverse environment, your child becomes part of an inclusive school family. Everyone is welcome; children develop an openness to learning and cultural awareness that serves them as they learn to navigate the world.

A Successful Global Mindset Teaches Children To:

Develop A Growth Mindset, Take Risks, & Let Go Of fear

Letting go of the fear that comes from stepping out of what is known, letting go of an ethnocentric attitude to adopt a more inclusive mindset, a learning mindset.

Step Outside Of Their Comfort Zone & Confidently Explore

Being open to step out of your comfort zone to explore and learn about a new culture in a way that goes beyond being tolerant, but instead proactively looking for the opportunity to apply those learnings.

Adopt Lasting Cultural Awareness & Embrace Differences

To be able to combine openness and awareness of diversity across cultures and embrace such differences. The goal is to understand what drives behavior, tradition, custom, etc. Children learn and understand common patterns across cultures.

Adapt & Base Decisions On Their Innate Cultural Sensitivity

It is vital to be able to navigate the various customs and cultural differences, geopolitical and economic climates, cultural conditions, and expectations. Children will make decisions in a way that is culturally sensitive and takes advantage of the potential opportunities that these differences bring.

Feel Just Like Family

ALICE-Trained Staff & Police
On-Site To Protect Your Child

Your Child Builds Their
Social-Emotional Toolkit

Loving teachers guide kids with encouragement and support to develop social and emotional skills for life success. A combination of Nonviolent Communication™ and Redirection techniques help children develop crucial emotional intelligence.

NonViolent Communication™ Creates A Community Of Compassion

In an environment that rejects the languages of blame, judgment, and coercion, children learn to use Compassionate Communication.

  • The NVC language process offers 3 options for connecting: self-empathy, self-expression, and showing empathy.
  • Children focus on 4 steps: Observations, Feelings, Needs, and Requests.

With shared power and communicative interactions, everyone has their needs met.

Redirection Creates A Productive Social-Emotional Learning Environment

Teachers use 4 types of redirection to help kids stay on track:

  • Verbal: A simple instruction guides a child to appropriate behavior.
  • Physical: A simple instruction combined with a gentle touch interrupts challenging behavior and redirects the child.
  • Cues: A picture or gesture paired with an instruction steers a child back on track.
  • Attention: The focus turns to a nearby child who is behaving appropriately.

Teachers use these techniques to model and guide behavior to help children develop self-regulation and self-control.

An Engaging Curriculum Supports
Their Kindergarten-Readiness

Your bright little learner has a natural curiosity, and the InvestiGator Club® curriculum ignites it through music, art, dramatic play, stories, games, and experiments. Exciting weekly themes introduce math and literacy concepts to instill a passion for learning.

Virtual Adventures
Ignite Imaginations

Growing minds get inspiration from virtual learning experiences that introduce new worlds and ideas. As curriculum-based field trips whisk your child virtually to museums and galleries worldwide, they expand their horizons and become familiar with vital technological skills.

Expect Continued Learning
Throughout Summer Months

A year-round program means the fun doesn’t stop. In-house activities include water play days and virtual field trips to keep your little learner engaged and giggling through summer. Constant inspiration gives kids a boost before they start or return to school.
