Maple Family Daycare
Aqms a new mom I had my own fear leaving my son at a daycare not knowing what to except. It’s our 1st time and we are very Happy with Abby! She provides a family environment and treats our kids like her own, my son is so happy with her, always playing with her, and learning new skills! I can tellwhen I come pick him! He eats and sleep very well with her, she sends me often videos and pictures of him eating and sleeping. I don’t mind her going to pick her own kids at school with my son in 1/2 mile away because she asked and we have an agreement. I leave next door and can show up anytime she doesnt mind! I never had any bad surprise and me and my husband are thankful because she is a blessing!…

Christine’s Family Daycare
I don’t even know how to narrow down all of the reasons our family loves and appreciates Christine. She has been so much more to our family than a typical daycare provider, and been more like a family member that took away all of my fears of putting my first child in daycare to return to work fulltime.
We absolutely adore “Miss Tine”. My son was with her from age 2 – 4. I interviewed several people when looking for childcare. When I met Christine, I didn’t look any further. I knew right away she was the right fit for us.
I had done another part-time daycare prior to, and took him out immediately because he obviously hated it. He would start to scream as soon as we entered the parking lot.
The first day I left him with Christine, he cried for a minute or 2… if that… and I received a picture from Christine before I even left her neighborhood of him playing and having fun with all of his new friends. By the end of the first week, he didn’t even seem to care that I left. She completely took away all of those fears a first time mother has. He loved being there and we still keep in touch and talk often.
I have recently had my second child and I already know where he will be going to daycare….. when I am ready for my baby to be a big boy. ((lol))…

Iwould recommend her to anyone who is looking for a daycare provider that will take excellent care of their child….

Nahom’s Family Child Care
I was fortunate to raise my daughter for 8 months before enrolling her in daycare. As a first-time mom, I was nervous, scared, and worried to take this step. My fears flew out the window when I saw the bond between Ms. Shelly and my daughter. She taught her so much and still learning. By the timeshe turned one, she knew her manners and interacted with us at a completely different level. Ms. Shelly is great, I am truly thankful to find someone to help raise my daughter. She is very kind and loving towards parents and kids. The area is always clean and tidy, even after a long day….

Description:
Kids Kingdom Child Care and Learning Center values early childhood education as the foundation for lifelong learning. We offer child care services from 6 weeks to 5 years old. We also offer before and aftercare program for school age kids. We believe that each child is a unique individual and should be viewed, respected and treated as such. As the welfare and well-being of each child is paramount, we strive to provide holistic support of the child’s exclusive requirements and interests in a nurturing, familial environment that fosters the child’s development across all developmental domains.
We believe that the child develops in an orderly manner by passing through stages of development, which occur in predictable sequential fashion according to his or her physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. We provide experiences in dramatic play, math, art, science, music, language, pre-reading and pre-writing. These experiences nurture and facilitate growth at each stage of a child’s development.
Verbal skills are encouraged through group discussions and through one-on-one conversations between teacher and child and among children. These verbal activities enable children to develop the critical-thinking skills necessary to further learning. One of the teacher’s roles in this process is to ask the right questions at the right time to spark the interest and desire to pursue a line of inquiry.
Partnerships with families provide us with invaluable information relating to cultural backgrounds and heritage. Our teachers strive to build the relationships with families based on co-operation and a mutual respect for the reciprocal roles that each play in the lives of the children. Partnerships with families are developed through daily discussions, newsletters and meetings. Moreover, The Kids Kingdom open door policy aims to facilitate an open flow of communication while maintaining confidentiality and respect of the privacy and wishes of each family, resulting in the highest levels of customer service. Partnerships with industry professionals assist staff development and expansion of the curriculum to meet the individual and collective needs of all children. Needs based on cultural identity, additional support education and medical interventions which all require greater individual knowledge and supported cooperative teams, assures all children are facilitated in an inclusive environment as best as possible. …

Diversity Cultivates Their
Successful Global Mindset
In a diverse environment, your child becomes part of an inclusive school family. Everyone is welcome; children develop an openness to learning and cultural awareness that serves them as they learn to navigate the world.
A Successful Global Mindset Teaches Children To:
Develop A Growth Mindset, Take Risks, & Let Go Of fear
Letting go of the fear that comes from stepping out of what is known, letting go of an ethnocentric attitude to adopt a more inclusive mindset, a learning mindset.
Step Outside Of Their Comfort Zone & Confidently Explore
Being open to step out of your comfort zone to explore and learn about a new culture in a way that goes beyond being tolerant, but instead proactively looking for the opportunity to apply those learnings.
Adopt Lasting Cultural Awareness & Embrace Differences
To be able to combine openness and awareness of diversity across cultures and embrace such differences. The goal is to understand what drives behavior, tradition, custom, etc. Children learn and understand common patterns across cultures.
Adapt & Base Decisions On Their Innate Cultural Sensitivity
It is vital to be able to navigate the various customs and cultural differences, geopolitical and economic climates, cultural conditions, and expectations. Children will make decisions in a way that is culturally sensitive and takes advantage of the potential opportunities that these differences bring.

Your Child Builds Their
Social-Emotional Toolkit
Loving teachers guide kids with encouragement and support to develop social and emotional skills for life success. A combination of Nonviolent Communication™ and Redirection techniques help children develop crucial emotional intelligence.
NonViolent Communication™ Creates A Community Of Compassion
In an environment that rejects the languages of blame, judgment, and coercion, children learn to use Compassionate Communication.
- The NVC language process offers 3 options for connecting: self-empathy, self-expression, and showing empathy.
- Children focus on 4 steps: Observations, Feelings, Needs, and Requests.
With shared power and communicative interactions, everyone has their needs met.
Redirection Creates A Productive Social-Emotional Learning Environment
Teachers use 4 types of redirection to help kids stay on track:
- Verbal: A simple instruction guides a child to appropriate behavior.
- Physical: A simple instruction combined with a gentle touch interrupts challenging behavior and redirects the child.
- Cues: A picture or gesture paired with an instruction steers a child back on track.
- Attention: The focus turns to a nearby child who is behaving appropriately.
Teachers use these techniques to model and guide behavior to help children develop self-regulation and self-control.

Caring for the bay tree
How to care for the bay tree, can its leaves be used as a spice and how soon will a big tree grow from a small bush?
Watering
In summer Lavr Nobilis needs a constant supply of fresh moisture. The plant should be watered abundantly with water of medium softness and the soil should not dry out. If it is very hot during the day, then it is better to water twice: in the morning and in the evening. It is important during the day, at the peak of the heat, not to get water on the leaves, otherwise they can get burned in the sun.
Starting from autumn and up to June, you can water the laurel less frequently. In winter, in cold and slush, indoors in normal or high humidity, watering can be reduced to two times a week. In the cold season, the plant “sleeps” and it needs much less moisture than in summer.
It is important to note that the courier will bring the laurel in “transport” condition. The plant should be watered immediately.
Transplanting
As soon as the houseplant is delivered, it can be transplanted into a larger pot. The courier will bring the laurel in the soil that is best suited for transporting the plant, and the laurel requires more land to develop.
It should be taken into account that laurel grows slowly and does not require frequent transplants. Once every two, two and a half years, a young plant can be transplanted. The need for such a transplant can be determined by looking at the roots of the plant. If they fill the pot completely, then feel free to transplant.
An adult large laurel can be transplanted once every three or even four years.
Don’t forget to build a good drainage from expanded clay or stones at the bottom of the pot.
Soil composition
Land for laurel in nature consists of fallen leaves, humus, turf, sand and peat. At home, a houseplant can be transplanted into universal soil, which is sold in any flower shop.
Lighting
Laurel is a southern plant. And therefore, he perfectly tolerates direct sunlight and even loves windows on the south side and rooms with bright lighting. In hot summer, laurel can be taken out into the fresh air.
Immediately after the purchase, it is not worth exposing the plant to the midday sun, because it was stored in a warehouse for some time and traveled in trucks. Accustom the laurel to the sun gradually so that its leaves do not get a sunburn.
Temperature
The best summer temperature for laurel lies between 20 and 26 degrees Celsius. Starting in autumn, the laurel can be moved to a cool room. For example, to the hall, or to the balcony (up to +10 C). In winter, it is better to keep the plant cool (12-15 degrees Celsius) and in the dim sun. Then the laurel will survive the winter most favorably and begin its growth faster in the summer.
Humidity
Laurel loves moist air and spraying with soft, filtered water. Especially in summer when it’s warm. The main thing is not to spray the plant at the peak of the daytime heat in the sun.
In winter, it is enough to dust the leaves with a clean, damp cloth.
Air humidity control: if the leaves turn yellow and dry, then there is clearly not enough moisture. In this case, it is worth regularly spraying the plant, or moving it to a room with higher air humidity.
Air humidity for laurel in the office
In no case should you place laurel next to a heating battery, or under the air flow from an air conditioner.
Top dressing
Not particularly required. But for better and faster growth, you can add universal mineral fertilizers to the soil in the spring, during the growing season.
Leaf pruning
Laurel Nobilis tolerates shearing very well. You can prune the bush the way you want and create different shapes. The pruning is as follows: at the end of August, when growth slows down, you can cut it off, leaving fresh shoots (eyes), they will develop before the onset of the first cold weather, and in the spring, when the plant starts new growth, they will give fresh shoots; in the spring, you can remove the most active eyes on the top of the laurel. The remaining less strong shoots will give a small increase.
Results
In general, caring for laurel, a homemade laurel tree, is not burdensome and quite simple. No unique conditions are required for this houseplant. The main thing is to regularly monitor the air humidity and prevent the plant from overheating in winter.
When purchasing a young plant, it should be borne in mind that caring for it requires a more careful attitude. But adult large laurels almost do not require attention and get along well both in cozy apartments and noisy offices.
Since Laurel Nobilis is a houseplant and is grown in special nurseries, we do not recommend using its leaves for food. Still, it grows on soils enriched with nutrients and fertilizers, stored in warehouses and transported in vehicles before our courier delivers it to you. In urban conditions, whether it is an office or an apartment, laurel leaves, together with city air, absorb many different, sometimes harmful, substances. In addition, improper drying of laurel leaves may simply not give that taste and aroma, which is so valuable spice from laurel, grown in the south specifically for gastronomic purposes.

How a botanical garden is created in the Alexander Nevsky Lavra
Sergey Nikolaev / RG
Cacti, roses and a pond as a legacy
No professional flower growers were hired. But landscaping issues are always under the close attention of the Lavra’s viceroy, Bishop Nazariy of Kronstadt, an agronomist by first education who had experience working in the Kiev Botanical Garden back in Soviet times (“Sometimes he conducted excursions there for party delegations,” Vladyka Nazariy notes). The vicegerent personally conducted a tour of the flower beds of the Lavra for RG correspondents.
Let’s say right away: the cacti that amaze the imagination of pilgrims and tourists are from the winter garden, located in the gallery of one of the buildings. In the summer they are moved to open ground. On the territory of the Lavra there is a microclimate, the temperature is one or two degrees higher than outside the monastery walls, which also protect from the wind. But everything else grows in ordinary flower beds.
When the revival of the Lavra began (and finally, most of the buildings were handed over to the monastery only 10 years ago), they began to equip the flower gardens from scratch. For a long time, the Lavra buildings were occupied by an organization working for defense, a “mailbox”, as they used to say in Soviet times. They were not interested in flowers. Monks, laborers, volunteers not only revived flower gardens, but also made them where there was no land. So the most beautiful lilacs, roses, peonies appeared on the sites, once occupied by garages and other objects. And where there was a car repair shop, they made a pond. As Vladyka recalls, the workshop was left with a viewing hole of the strongest “military” concrete, which could not be beaten off. Then they decided to make a pond, over which they installed the image of Our Lady of Konev (before the Lavra, Vladyka was rector of the Nativity of the Theotokos Monastery on the island of Konevets).
– I understood: people come to the Lavra, and they are primarily interested not in how the premises are transferred, but in what surrounds them. So we created and are creating this living beauty specifically for visitors. As for the monks, you rarely see them in the courtyards during the daytime: it’s too crowded, – Vladyka explains. Flower beds are arranged in such a way that some species and varieties are constantly blooming. For example, peonies follow lilacs, and roses follow peonies. Fragrance – always.
Lilac – flower of Victory
There are practically no phloxes popular for our region in Lavra flower beds – they are not specially planted. Because phloxes are especially loved by powdery mildew, which is difficult to stop spreading. But lilacs – a lot of varieties. Both snow-white and lilac – with flowers of different configurations. There is a bush on which both lilac and white branches are at the same time – such a variety. There is even a red lilac – including the variety “Beauty of Moscow” by the famous self-taught breeder, front-line soldier, Stalin Prize laureate Leonid Kolesnikov. By the way, red varieties are the abbot’s favorite varieties. Because everyone is used to: lilac – lilac or white. Red – both bright and unusual.
– I love lilacs, – Vladyka admits. – A bush can grow for two hundred years if you take care of it. Lilac is the flower of my childhood. Sometimes I joke: together with the chickens we grew up under a lilac bush. I come from Ukraine, where every house has lilac bushes, and in the heat, under them, chickens hide and children play. And also lilac – the flower of the Great Victory. Our fighters in Europe were greeted with lilacs.
There are plans to create a plot with lilacs of “spiritual varieties” in the Lavra: “White Angel”, “Valaam” and others. And in August, dozens of lilac bushes will be planted at the Nikolsky skete of the laurels (Kingiseppsky district of the Leningrad region) to lay the foundation for syringaria. The future garden will be laid out in the form of St. Andrew’s Cross. Next to the syringarium, an iridarium (iris garden) is planned. And they also dream of getting the newest variety, also with red flowers – “Alexander Nevsky”. Bred by Russian breeders for the 800th anniversary of the birth of the right-believing prince. But so far, the variety exists only in the form of a few “uterine bushes”. You need to wait.
Variety of beauty
Lavra peonies – a fragrant poem. Different colors, shapes. But most of all, tree-like peonies are striking. This is no longer a traditional bush, but a real small tree with huge flowers. Now is the time to enjoy them.
– Do you know where the peonies came from in St. Petersburg? They are southern, before the war they grew in the Botanical Garden. They were taken care of, sheltered. During the war, there was no one to take care of. Some varieties did not survive, some adapted and became uncovered. These “went” through our gardens. The Lavra also has a collection of peonies from the Summer Garden. When the garden was closed for renovation, some of the bushes were handed over to us. As a result, some of their varieties have not been preserved, but we have, – Vladyka explains.
Tulips, of course, have faded. But there are many varieties of them in the laurel, including the Black Prince variety. By the way, perfectly black tulips do not exist. They are dark purple. Vladyka also told the secret of how to keep tulips on the site. They need to be dug up after two or three seasons, dried, and only then planted again. Tulip – cunning, can “run away”. It burrows to great depths, and you will not find it later.
Another favorite flower of the governor is gerberas, especially yellow ones. Because “they are like the sun, which is so lacking in St. Petersburg.”
Blooming colorful rhododendrons always attract the eye. Yes, these bushes are from a warmer climate, but they grow well and the flowers are bright. The main rule: when the bright sun appears in St. Petersburg in February, you need to start covering the bushes, if you want them to be in bloom later.
Many of the trees planted in the laurel are also unusual. For example, Nedzvetsky’s apple trees. They are planted for beauty. The fruits are tiny, but there are a lot of flowers, and again red. Japanese quince is also strewn with red flowers (candied fruits are made from its fruits in the monastery). They also love chestnuts.
And also dogwood, anemones, forsythia, clematis, daylilies, hydrangea, hosta, roses… And the simplest thing: viburnum. Blossoms – beautifully, fruits – red, bright. There are many conifers, including two Siberian cedars.
– Planting is not a problem. To see how it blooms for the first time is also good. But in order for the plants not to disappear, not to hatch, not to be clogged with weeds, they need to be worked on. Beauty takes work! – the lord smiles.
Finally, the correspondents of “RG” asked for advice – what should beginner gardeners do, and even those who do not have time to landscaping the site. We were advised to pay attention to the conifers. They do not require special care, and against their background you can plant any flowers. Preferably perennials. There will be more trouble with one-year-olds.
By the way
Everywhere in the flowerbeds of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, like molehills dug. But these are not moles. This is specially dug up by dandelions – before the fluff with seeds scatters in the wind. Dandelions reproduce quickly and are the worst enemy of garden crops. Some of the brethren and volunteers work in the flower beds. Volunteers are always welcome at the monastery. Especially those who are able to distinguish a weed from a cultivated plant. However, they will teach. The main desire.
Soon the collection of “spiritual varieties” of lilacs will appear in the Lavra: “White Angel”, “Valaam” and others. Photo: Sergey Nikolaev / RG
About the problem of beekeeping
Vladyka shows an unusual blooming acacia covered with snow-white flowers. That’s what it’s called: white acacia. Purely southern, but grows excellently in the laurel. It blooms interestingly: first it will open the buds, and only then the leaves. Acacia wood is so strong that it is comparable to iron. Acacia honey is never candied. True, there is no apiary in the Lavra and never will be. In the city, bees are disastrous. But at the skete – at ease, there is an apiary.
– Trouble in Russia comes with apiaries. The fields are treated with chemicals, the bees are dying. It only seems so: just think – less honey, they will bring it from abroad. They’ll bring it. But farmers forget that bees are also pollinators. We are losing the harvest of many crops that are pollinated by bees, – lamented the governor of the Lavra.
The sky is like a tent, the time will come and it will open
Forty years of preparation
viceroy. The governor was away, and the boy was advised to turn to one of the experienced confessors of the Lavra.
The boy told an unknown father that he really wanted to become a monk from childhood. In response, he heard: “Vasenka, while you live in the world, start a family, raise children, help your neighbors, and then, in agreement with your wife, become a monk.”
The advice turned out to be prophetic, and for more than 40 years the future Father Seraphim Vyritsky performed this obedience as a preparation for monasticism.
Soon Vasily Nikolaevich Muraviev becomes a merchant of the 2nd guild, a wealthy man, skillfully and progressively conducting his business. He gives most of his income to the church and, together with his wife, arranges dinners for the poor for charity, calling them directly from the street, thanks them for coming, gives money, things and food for the road.
Donating to government hospitals, the couple often took lonely, emaciated, often hopeless people into their homes. At home, with excellent care, sincerity and hospitality of the owners, the hopeless often recovered, surprising the doctors. And the couple did not engage in any “spiritual enlightenment”: there was only pure practice.
Together with the spiritual children of Father Barnabas from the Gethsemane Skete, who was his spiritual mentor until the end of his life, Vasily Muravyov thought a lot about what is happening now in Russia, what the future holds for the country.
A thunderstorm passed over the Russian land

In 1917, many wealthy acquaintances, colleagues of the Muravyovs began to transfer their capital abroad and leave Russia, hoping to wait out unclear times there. And Vasily Muravyov realized that the time had come for him to a new life, a monastic one. It has been 45 years since he first came to the Lavra as a teenager.
Metropolitan Veniamin (Kazanskiy) of Petrograd, who was a friend of V. Muravyov, himself offered and gave his blessing to be tonsured at the Alexander Nevsky Lavra. Olga Muravieva entered the Resurrection Novodevichy Convent near St. Petersburg. The couple’s haircut took place in one day.
Soon Hierodeacon Varnava (the name given to Vasily Muravyov in tonsure) was assigned to serve at the cemetery. The place was “hot” – there was a civil war, funerals were carried out, they were buried constantly, to crying and screaming. Here about. Barnabas began his ministry, praying for suffering, restless people.
During these years, the Lavra, despite the ongoing persecution of Christians, became the center of all church life in Petrograd: a fundraising point was opened to help the starving, part of the premises of the Lavra was assigned to war invalids, donations were collected for orphans, the poor were invited to hot meals daily .
Thanks to the long life in the world, Fr. Barnabas knew well the moods and demands of people of all classes, peasants, philistines, workers, nobles, intellectuals – all the “former”. To Fr. Two years later, most of the Lavra brethren, many bishops and archimandrites, went to confession to Barnabas, and the laity often waited near the cell to somehow catch the priest.
A distinctive feature of Fr. Barnabas during the time of persecution, when any inhabitant of the Lavra did not know in the morning whether he would return or be arrested, when schismatics laid claim to the Lavra, when disagreements began among the brethren, there was an amazing, seemingly inappropriate calmness, not gloomy, not anxious, but a kind and gentle look.
“The Almighty Lord governs the world, and everything that happens in it is done either by the grace of God, or by permission,” said the priest. – The fate of God is incomprehensible to man. Only such a view of the essence of what is happening attracts peace to the soul, does not allow to be carried away by excitement and delivers patience.
And for this, he considered Fr. Barnabas, real faith in the Lord is needed, which must be strengthened, tested, renewed in oneself – starting with the smallest, everyday cases of one’s life; what is needed is faith in the good providence of God, unshakable trust in God, and not in an outsider who offers to doubt, to be perplexed, to murmur.

The priest knew how to console, and in 1926 he was appointed confessor of the Lavra. Before that, he accepts the great schema with the name Seraphim.
The appearance of such people as Fr. Seraphim, it was the grace of God: confusion reigned everywhere, a lack of understanding of how to live on: the old world was disappearing, with it all the old laws and rules, principles and concepts. The church was declared hostile to the new government, as before freely – you no longer look like it, the monasteries were closed. How to protect yourself, how to protect loved ones from a strange, previously unknown evil? What to say to children?
With all this, they went to Fr. Seraphim and monks and laity. At the end of 1927, already after the Declaration of Met. Sergius (Stragorodsky), Archbishop Alexy (Simansky) came for advice.
Vladyka feared arrest for his noble origin. “Father Seraphim, wouldn’t it be better for me to go abroad?” the bishop asked.
“Who will you leave the Russian Church to? After all, you have to feed her … Do not be afraid, the Mother of God Herself will protect you. There will be many grave temptations, but with God’s help everything will be handled,” replied Fr. Seraphim, and Vladyka Alexy remembered this answer when he was elected patriarch 18 years later.
“The time has come for repentance and confession,” Fr. Seraphim. – The Lord Himself determined the punishment for the Russian people for sins. A gloomy night will cover the Russian land for a long time, much suffering awaits us ahead. That is why the Lord teaches us: “By your patience save your souls.” We can only trust in the mercy of God and beg for His forgiveness. Let us remember that “God is love”” .
To many monks and laity, Fr. Seraphim advised turning to the Jesus Prayer, considering the unceasing prayer of repentance to be the best way to unite the human spirit with the Spirit of God. After all, there may not be someone nearby who will console, answer the question, cheer up, and the Jesus Prayer is a reliable connection with the Comforter Himself. “In the most difficult times, it will be convenient to be saved who, to the best of his ability, begins to strive in the Jesus Prayer, ascending from the frequent invocation of the name of the Son of God to unceasing prayer,” said the priest.
Already at that time there were known cases of miraculous healing through the prayers of Fr. Seraphim to God, exorcism of evil spirits.

After spending three years as a confessor of the Lavra, sometimes receiving confessors literally for days, Fr. Seraphim, who was already 63 years old, became seriously ill and one day he simply could not get out of bed. He accepted his illness with complete calmness and complacency: “There are people who do not tolerate such illnesses!”
Doctors believed that only fresh air and silence would help Fr. Seraphim to strengthen his forces, and was advised to settle in a healthy climate of the suburbs – this is how Vyritsa was chosen. Father Seraphim flatly refused to leave, but Metropolitan Seraphim (Chichagov) of Petrograd, a friend of the priest and a doctor in the past, after reading the conclusion of the doctors, immediately blessed to go. Father Seraphim obeyed. In 1930, together with Fr. The nun Khristina (wife of the priest in the world, Olga) also went to Vyritsa as a seraphim with her granddaughter to care for the elder.
Vyritsa Seraphim continued to receive people, sometimes up to several hundred a day, and prayed at night. And as before, he taught to live in the circumstances that the Lord sent, not to grumble, not to worry, but calmly do your job, committing everything to the will of God. To everyone who came to him, he said:
“You should never ask the Lord for anything earthly. He knows what is good for us better than we do. Always pray like this: “I commit, Lord, myself, my children and all relatives and neighbors to Your holy will.”
Sincerely considering himself a sinner, the elder constantly asked everyone to pray for the salvation of his soul. Relatives about. Seraphim tried to somehow limit the reception of people, referring to the elder’s ill health, but Fr. Seraphim firmly said: “Now I will always be unwell … As long as my hand is raised for blessing, I will receive people.”

O. Seraphim never condemned a person, did not reproach, did not read moralizing. But somehow imperceptibly shifted from involvement in the earthly, from worries and sorrows and set the heavenly horizon. He attributed all the sins of people to the malice of the devil:
“Try to keep yourself from the snares that are placed outside and inside a person and covered in every possible way with a semblance of truth. They are easily recognized by the fact that they deprive the soul of peace. The peace of Christ is the witness of the truth.”
The sin of condemnation Fr. Seraphim generally considered one of the greatest spiritual ulcers of our time: “We have the right to judge only ourselves. Even talking about a person, we already involuntarily evaluate and condemn him.
People received joy and peace when they left Fr. Seraphim, no matter what they come with. From a human point of view, it was incomprehensible, “not logical,” but it was so: the grace of God, through the prayers of the elder, warmed and comforted, taught to break away from earthly problems and look higher. Helped about. Seraphim and practical advice: who to get a job, who to the hospital, he gave money to those who were left completely without funds:
“But how will I look before the Lord if I leave the money to myself… If you have a ruble in your wallet, give it to the poor, leaving a penny for yourself, and you will never have money transferred.”
Once in the house of Fr. Seraphim came to the NKVD – to arrest the priest. The elder asked the elder to come up to him, touched his hand, stroked it and said: “May your sins be forgiven you, servant of God…” and called his name. And the Chekist suddenly said: “If there were more such priests, then we would all be believers” – and burst into tears.
And Fr. Seraphim remained unarrested.
War

O. Seraphim warned some of his spiritual children about the impending war. When the war began, he began to pray on a stone, in front of the icon of St. Seraphim of Sarov and following his example.
“It was impossible to look at this without tears. Grandfather stood with his sore knees on a stone and stretched out his hands to the sky … – recalled his granddaughter Margarita. – We begged him to leave this exorbitant feat, because you can pray in the cell, but in this case he was merciless both to us and to himself.
I prayed both in the cold and in the rain, for as long as I could: sometimes for an hour, sometimes for two, and sometimes for several hours at once. Of course, the Lord strengthened him, otherwise it would be impossible for a sick, almost non-walking person.”
During the war, Fr. Seraphim, Nikolai Muravyov, and were soon shot. “Be the will of God,” the relatives then heard from Fr. Seraphim.
After the war from all over Russia to Fr. Seraphim came to learn about the fate of loved ones – missing, missing in exile and camps. Many were left without a home, without apartments – they could not return to Leningrad – Fr. Seraphim prayed, and everything was arranged.
Prepare yourself for the spiritual world

In 1945, the schema nun Seraphim (in the world Olga Muravyova, wife of Father Seraphim, who had previously taken the schema with a new name) passed away. For almost 60 years she has been there, caring and helping in everything. Until the death of Seraphim was four years old. He increasingly prayed in solitude.
At that time, his relatives and closest children heard a lot from the elder. Father Seraphim said that the time would come and the Lord would have mercy on Russia, churches and monasteries would be opened and rebuilt, Orthodox radio stations would operate, and a lot of spiritual literature would be published.
We now know that this is what happened.
But the elder urged to stay awake, not to fall asleep with your soul, because prosperous times are not eternal.
“The time will come when not persecution, but the money and charms of this world will turn people away from God and many more souls will perish than in times of open rebellion. On the one hand, crosses will be erected and domes gilded, and on the other hand, the kingdom of lies and evil will come. The true Church will always be persecuted, and it will be possible to be saved only by sorrows and illnesses. Persecution will take on the most unpredictable character.
And if the Russian people do not come to repentance, it may happen that brother will rise again against brother.”
Under the repentance of the people, Fr. Seraphim meant the repentance of each person, recalling the gospel: “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!” These were the first words of Christ with which he addressed the people. Everyone should watch their soul, ask God for the gift to see the roots of their sins, the deepest in the heart, because repentance is a gift from the Lord, a person without God’s help cannot see what is really important.
Father Seraphim advised to read the prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian as often as possible: “Lord and Master of my life…”, because “the whole essence of Orthodoxy lies in it, with it we ask the Lord for help in acquiring the properties of a new person.”
In this life the elder considered it necessary for every Christian to prepare himself for the spiritual world. “The sky is like a tent, the time will come and it will open,” he said.
He knew about his death and prepared for it.
3 April 1949 years Fr. Seraphim partook of the Holy Mysteries and asked to read the Gospel and the Psalter. Later he asked to be put in a chair and began to pray, while sometimes asking for the time. Closer to two o’clock in the morning. Seraphim asked to read the canon on the exodus of the soul, after which, having crossed himself, with the words “Save, Lord, and have mercy on the whole world,” he went to the Lord.
On the first day after the death of Fr. Seraphim healed a blind girl. Mom led her to the coffin and said: “Kiss grandfather’s hand.” Vyritsa old-timers remember well the sight of a blind child.
Father Seraphim was buried not far from the Vyritsa Church of Our Lady of Kazan. In 2000, he was glorified by the Council of Bishops. Now the relics of St. Seraphim of Vyritsky, as well as the grave of the schema-nun Seraphim, are located in a small chapel next to the Kazan Church, where, as well as to the chapel of Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg, people bring their notes and prayers.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in response to a petition asking to leave the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), indicated that the issue of using the building is decided by the Ukrainian Cabinet. The president’s response is posted on his website .
“Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated July 11, 2013 No. 519-r buildings and structures on the street. Lavrskaya, 11 and on the street. Lavrskaya, 15 in Kyiv, according to a certain list, were transferred for free use of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra (monastery) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” Zelensky said.
As reported, the former head of the non-canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the self-proclaimed Kyiv Patriarchate, Filaret, stated that the new religious structure of the OCU could take the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra from the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate with the help of a legal operation. According to him, the Lavra is “a Ukrainian, not a Russian shrine.”
The owner of the temple complex of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is the Ukrainian state. The community of monks has a lease and use agreement, but the document can be canceled – as the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice did with the Pochaev Lavra. Then, in fact, 200 monks and 50 novices were left without housing.

In addition to the Lavra itself – the most unique historical and architectural temple complex worthy of admiration, in Sergiev Posad and its environs there are a lot of places associated with the name of the Reverend, his family and the Lavra itself: Pyatnitsky well , Gremyachiy waterfall, Pokrovsky Khotkov convent and many others.

Sergiev Posad is an amazingly cozy and picturesque city, which was loved by Prishvin and Kuprin, many artists and philosophers. The history of the city is closely connected with the Lavra, but, nevertheless, it is quite original and interesting. The city has preserved monuments of temple architecture 16th-18th centuries civic buildings of the late baroque era, there are wonderful ponds and amazing museums . In a word, in this city you can have a good rest and replenish your informational and aesthetic baggage.
But you should not limit yourself to visiting only Sergiev Posad itself. Very attractive to visit and its wonderful surroundings : Gethsemane Chernigov Skete, Museum-Estate in the village Abramtsevo , Spaso-Bethany Monastery, museum estate in the village Muranovo .
Therefore, to visit Sergiev Posad, you need to plan at least 2-3 days in order to fully experience the identity of the city with its dominant Orthodox component and visit all possible historical and cultural sites of the city itself and its amazing surroundings. Of course, you can see a lot during just 1 day of your stay in the city, but it’s better to take your time to see the sights of this quiet Russian town.
Brief history of Sergiev Posad
The emergence and development of this city is inextricably linked with the history of the St. Sergius Lavra, and it begins with a small monastic monastery, which was founded by 20-year-old Sergius of Radonezh in 1337 on a completely deserted, overgrown with dense forest, mountain Makovets .
Life of Sergius of Radonezh in the wilderness
Believers flocked to St. Sergius, wishing to devote their lives to prayer, and soon a monastic town was formed, around which, in turn, handicrafts began to spring up.0399 settlements , villages , villages, and Orthodox parish churches were built in them – this is how a township settlement was formed near the Lavra.
Emergence of Sergiev Posad villages
Just two or three decades after the death of St. Sergius, the first villages appeared near the Sergius Lavra, which was a white-stone Trinity Cathedral plus several wooden monastic cells. They were called Panino , Klementyevo , Kopnino and Kokuyevo . The village of Panino perished in a fire during the Polish invasion of the 17th century, retaining its name in Podpaninskaya Street for a long time.
Trinity Cathedral of St. Sergius Lavra
The village of Kokuyevo was transformed over time into Kokuevskaya Sloboda, and then entered the urban territory of Sergiev Posad, also keeping the historical past in the name of Kokuevskaya Street.
But the village Klementyevo has grown into a large shopping center, in terms of population exceeding Pereslavl-Zalessky at one time. It was from this village that the city of Sergiev Posad subsequently grew.
The commercial and industrial direction of the development of the village was facilitated by its favorable location. After all, all the main transport routes went through it – from Moscow to Pereslavl-Zalessky, from Arkhangelsk to Moscow, etc. In addition, the implementation of numerous construction works in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra attracted new residents to the patrimonial monastic village of Klementyevo – workers of all construction specialties.
Road to Moscow from Sergiev Posad – 19th century
In addition to the villages, near the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, the so-called Sluzhniye Sloboda – Lower and Upper took shape. In the 16th century, stone Pyatnitsky and Vvedensky churches , which still exist, appeared in the Lower Sloboda, and a wooden church Rozhdestvenskaya appeared in the Upper Sloboda.
At first, houses and churches were built mainly of wood, and the construction was carried out very chaotically, which led to numerous fires. But time passed. Temples and buildings of settlements and villages were rebuilt in stone. All kinds of crafts . In the 16th century, about 20 crafts were developed in the township settlements.
Tragic for the inhabitants of the settlement was the time of the siege of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra by the Polish-Lithuanian invaders from 1608 to 1610 . The enemy did not penetrate into the Lavra itself, but the township farms were brutally looted and almost all were burned.
When later the settlement began to be rebuilt again, its formation was already more organized. settlements artisans engaged in a certain direction: Ikonnaya , Streletskaya , Pushkarskaya, etc. Interestingly, one of the crafts was the creation of toys for children.
Production of Sergiev Posad craftsmen
Sergiev Posad appeared on the map of Russia in 1782 , when a settlement with a single name was established from all the settlements located around the Trinity-Sergius Lavra by decree of Catherine the Second .
Since Sergiev Posad was located not far from Moscow and had certain economic ties with it, besides, a large number of believers constantly arrived at the monastery – a certain transport problem arose, which was solved by the industrialist F. Chizhov and the famous philanthropist Ivan Mamontov (father Savva).
In 1862, began to move along the railway line Moscow – Yaroslavl via Sergiev Posad. However, the pilgrims rejected the new means of transportation and continued to walk on foot. The higher clergy of the Lavra had to demonstrate by their example the safety of the railway.
In pre-revolutionary times, there were practically no industrial enterprises and, consequently, the working class in the city, although about nineteen thousand people already lived here.
Krasnogorskaya Square in front of Sergius Lavra at the end of 19century
During the Civil War, the Main Military Engineering Directorate for the supply of the Red Army was transferred to Sergiev Posad. The monastery was closed. Soviet power was firmly established in the city.
In 1919, Sergiev Posad officially received the status of a city. However, in the 30s it was renamed to Zagorsk . So the name of the outstanding revolutionary was immortalized, to whom a monument was erected on the main avenue of the city.
At the same time, the first industrial enterprises were created in Sergiev Posad: electromechanical and optical-mechanical plants. The nesting dolls factory, created at the beginning of the 20th century, now became known as “Zagorsk Toy Factory N 1” , and later – “Art Products and Toys”. This enterprise still produces nesting dolls, tumblers, etc.

During the Great Patriotic War, the city became front-line, the front line was only 20-30 km from Zagorsk. Sergiev Posad was bombed, but the enemy did not enter it. After the war, the economic and cultural development of the Zagorsk region went forward at a rapid pace.
Winter Zagorsk in 1964
Historical justice was restored in 1991 – Sergiev Posad was returned to its original historical name. At the same time, powerful restoration work began to restore the architectural monuments of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. And in connection with the increased interest in it, the tourist trail to this wonderful ancient Russian city filled with powerful spiritual potential has intensified.
Trinity-Sergius Lavra
Sergiev Posad has always been famous for its captivating beauty and picturesqueness. No wonder many writers and poets loved to come here so much: Dostoevsky and Gogol, Lermontov and Karamzin , L.N. Tolstoy and Kuprin , etc. He loved this city very much Prishvin , who lived here for more than 10 years and wrote many famous works. The house where he lived has been preserved, but there is no museum of this famous writer and amazing person in the city yet.
Monument to the writer Prishvin in the park “Skitskiye Prudy”
Many prominent artists, artists and other cultural figures also visited the city.
Temples and monasteries
Trinity-Sergius Lavra
The main and most attractive magnet in historical and architectural terms is the beautiful complex of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, on the territory of which several temples of different times are concentrated. Their creation is associated with the names of many Russian rulers, starting with Russian princes and ending with the emperors of all Russia.
On Cathedral Square
Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great , Anna Ioannovna and Catherine the Second – all had a hand in the creative work of building the temple complex, which today tourists and pilgrims alike seek to visit, because the Lavra is the central functioning Orthodox monastery in Russia.
Gethsemane Chernihiv skete (1 Gethsemane ponds st.)
In the middle of the 19th century, , the Gethsemane Skete was separated from the Lavra, in which individual monks retired, wishing to lead an ascetic and hermit way of life. The Gethsemane skete is created from wooden buildings on the outskirts of Sergiev Posad in Isakovskaya Grove . The ravines surrounding the skete were partially turned into artificial ponds, near which today a recreation area is organized – the Park “Skitskiye Prudy”.
Skete of Gethsemane before the revolution
And the appearance of the blessed Philip in the Gethsemane skete contributed to the emergence of another skete settlement – Chernigov, organized from underground cave cells and temples.
Underground Church of the Archangel Michael in the Chernigov Skete
In the post-Soviet time, the Gethsemane Skete did not recover, but Chernigov, together with its cave department, survived and today is fully restored and open to the public.
Bogolyubskaya Kinovia (Novoorogodnaya st., 40 A), founded by the same Philip not far from the Chernigov skete as a necropolis for the servants of the Sergius Lavra, is also being actively restored.

Spaso-Vithansky Monastery (Maslieva str., 25)
This monastery was founded at the end of the 18th century by Moscow archbishop Platon . Here it is interesting to see the unique Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral built at the end of the 18th century in the form of an oval figure and had two thrones – the upper one is the Transfiguration of the Lord and the lower one is the Resurrection of Lazarus.
Spaso-Bethany Monastery
The altar of the Lazarus throne is designed in the form of a cave at the bottom of Mount Tabor. And the top of this mountain is the altar of the upper throne – the Transfiguration of the Lord. Thus, the relationship of two New Testament events was visually illustrated – the resurrection from the tomb into the world of glory. This small church is in great contrast to the Sergius Lavra. It’s sparsely populated, quiet and peaceful. And most importantly, very beautiful.
Temples
In addition to the main monastic ensembles, Sergiev Posad is also rich in various parish churches , which were built on the territory of settlements and villages. Of the oldest temples, Vvedensky and Paraskeva Pyatnitsa located on 127 Red Army Street are of interest. Both of these stone structures appeared here by the middle of the 16th century in the populous Podolsk region to replace the previously existing wooden Vvedenskaya with the Friday Limit, erected during the time of Reverend Nikon in the 14th century.
The creation of these small but neat churches was due to the financial assistance of the boyar governor I. Khabarov , who by the end of his life was tonsured a monk.
Vvedenskaya and Pyatnitskaya churches
Two-tier, single-domed cross-domed Temple of the Entry (Entrance into the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary) until the second half of the 17th century was the main temple of the male Podolsk monastery, after the abolition of which it remained just a parish church. Once created in the spirit of Pskov architecture, after numerous reconstructions, it embodied the features of different styles and eras.
Light, elegant and cozy Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Church is decorated with numerous decorations and has a bell tower. It looks very harmonious next to the more mundane Vvedenskaya, and together they form a completely finished composition. Pyatnitsky was the temple of the female Podolsky monastery before its abolition, as well as Vvedenskaya.
In the Soviet years, church premises were used for other purposes, but miraculously were not destroyed. Returned to believers at the beginning of 90’s, both temples were restored and again hold services. It makes sense to go to both churches to feel the spirit of ancient times, peace and tranquility.
Ilyinsky temple
On the bank of the artificial Kelarsky Pond there is an architectural monument dating back to the second half of the 18th century – Ilyinsky Church , built in the Moscow baroque style. This temple is beautiful outside and inside. It is worth going into it to admire its painted walls, see the gilded five-tiered iconostasis, and be surprised that in the Soviet years this church was the only one operating in Sergiev Posad. Today, as an architectural monument, it is protected by the state.
There is also a wonderful Temple of the Ascension of the Lord on the Red Army Avenue, 88a, also related to in the second half of the millennium, made in the Baroque style.
Church of the Ascension of the Lord
Of the church buildings of the first half of the 19th century , Peter and Paul Church is interesting, which is also called the Resurrection Church (17 A Shock Army Street, 1). It is the only city church of the era of classicism.
Resurrection or Peter and Paul Church
It is not possible to enumerate all the holy temples of Sergiev Posad. All of them, both old and modern, decorate the city and create a Russian Orthodox atmosphere in it. But still, I would like to say just a few words about one more object – about the Holy Spring of Savva Storozhevsky , an associate disciple of St. Sergius (Parkhomenko street).
During one of his prayers, a miraculous spring opened from the northern outskirts of the Sergius Monastery. Today Chapel , where you can drink water or take it with you, and the Font with large changing rooms. Anyone can swim in the fertile Font at any time of the year, a bathing shirt is easily purchased at a nearby stall.

To find the Source, you need to go around the Lavra from its northern side and go left along the bridge over the stream to the sign.

Horse Yard Museum (1st Shock Army Street, 2) is located in one of the oldest buildings in the city. This architectural ensemble was built at the end of the 18th century for the needs of the stables of the Trinity Monastery, which was actively developing at that time. It was decided to combine the scattered numerous stables into one large farm with stone buildings, which was done on the banks of the most picturesque White Pond near the Sergius Lavra.
Horse Yard Ensemble
One-story buildings were closed in rectangle , at the corners of which there were round towers with plank roofs topped with wooden spiers with balls. After the revolution, various Soviet organizations were housed in these buildings, and due to the lack of proper care for the aging structures, they began to fall into disrepair.
After the restoration, the Horse Yard was almost completely restored, only 9 balls were installed on the spiers of the towers instead of balls.0399 weathercocks with rider on horseback. If you involve children in traveling around the cities of Russia, then this is very commendable and pedagogically true. While traveling, you have more opportunity to communicate with your children than on ordinary weekdays, and children, in addition to communicating with you, in an unobtrusive way get acquainted with history and culture of their country. But, nevertheless, a child is a child, and he will quickly get tired of viewing only historical monuments. Therefore, it is necessary to think over the route and places to visit in advance.
Of course, visiting Sergiev Larva itself with children is a must. Children do not always stand the tour, so at least some interesting information about Sergius of Radonezh , about the construction of the Lavra and its architectural objects, you can tell yourself.
