Terrible Ones – Tantrums Galore

My son is 17 months old – only child – I’m a stay at home mom. For a few months, his tantrums or attitude in general has changed. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still so very sweet, gives hugs and will go “awww” when there’s something sweet he sees and he’ll lay with me. Such a sweetie.. such a little devil at the same time!

I can handle him throwing everything is sees around the house, I tell him no and will give him something else to play with which 50% of the time he throws that too. But as we were taking our son Easter egg hunting with kids 2 and under, I couldn’t help but notice how easy going they were. These parents are holding their kids in their arms and they’re simply sitting there not bothering anyone. My kid kept trying to get out of my arms, pushing away from me with his hands while squealing. Then there were other kids who were standing near their parents. Every once in a while one parent had to grab a kid that wandered too far. I set my kid down, he immediately starts running and even though I don’t expect a 17 months old to pay too much attention, my kid isn’t even aware I exist and when I go to pick him up because I can’t handle chasing after a running toddler, I GET THE TANTRUM FROM HELL. I pick him up and he starts screaming and tears are running down his face. If you’re not paying attention he will hit you. The other day I carried him out of a store, not sitting on my side like usual, but I held him horizontal with one arm so he could kick and hit without hurting me. I just scooped him up. (I picked up him because he was having a tantrum in the middle of the store while he was laying on his back kicking and flinging his arms.) I try and hold his hand when we’re out but 80% of the time he tries to yank his hand out of mine and when I hold on a little tighter, he falls to the ground and has yet another tantrum. I try and keep him in a stroller at all times in stores because once he’s out he’s OUT and running. Putting him back in the stroller is another tantrum, which these tantrums don’t last long, but he’ll sit up in the stroller and fling his head back and bang it off the stroller…. repeatedly. Yes, when he’s mad he occasionally bangs his head off the floor or wall.

Quick rundown on my son. He doesn’t talk. He says dada but not to dada, I don’t even know the last time he said mama, he waves bye and at first he was saying two syllables while waving so I assumed he was saying bye bye, he’ll say “all done” and put up his arms and that’s about it. He points to objects and will get certain things if you ask. I’ve been signing “drink” for 2 or 3 months but he has yet to catch on, and I sign it every time I give him his drink or when I ask him where his drink is.

So I know not being able to talk or sign is an issue. I just don’t know what to do when these tantrums happen in public or how to reduce these tantrums. My son seems so active, like a ball of energy. I need some sort of advice here. My nieces when they were little never like this so I’m in a loss on what to do.

What do I do?

Terrible “titushki” – MK

Policy

Subject: New Ukraine

The topic of “pro-government provocateurs” – the so-called “titushki” – is currently topical on Ukrainian opposition websites. No one discusses the radicals who are testing the new composition of the Molotov cocktail at Berkut, which causes chemical burns. Everyone is talking and telling each other rumors about “thousands of titushki” hired by Yanukovych for provocations in Kyiv.

Photo: RIA Novosti

Even the opponents of the Maidan told the MK correspondent that they were taken in groups to Kyiv. Local information feeds are full of messages like: “Five buses with “titushki” were seen on the outskirts of the city … A thousand “titushki” are moving in formation along Pechersky Spusk … “Automaidan” defeated the camp of “titushki” in the forest …” Reading these messages, involuntarily you begin to shudder at these approaching “armies of zombies” who, on the orders of the authorities, are ready to stifle a peaceful protest and discredit the bright image of the Maidan in the eyes of the world community.

If it were not for the video footage posted on the Web by the fighters against the “titushki” themselves, one could believe in these armies of infiltrated Cossacks. There are no shots anywhere of how the “titushki” smash something or beat someone. But there are shots of a shabby boy, squeezed into a corner by three heroes in helmets, babbling something about 200 hryvnias, for which he agreed to go to the park to stand up for power. “Tell the truth!” – growls “hunter for titushki” and shines a flashlight into the boy’s eyes. The boy cringes, not knowing what “truth” will suit the fighters against evil. Well, what does the “titushki” have to do with it, who, according to legend, are bandits-athletes hired for forceful provocations? Another video shows how homeless-looking “titushki” captured in the city repent of their sins before the people of Ukraine and show the weapon that their “employers” supplied them with – something like children’s hammers for a xylophone.

On Wednesday, opposition websites spread information about a new victory of the “self-defense” forces over pro-government provocateurs: they allegedly managed to identify a large base of “titushki” in a hostel on Shcherbakov Street. The leader of the group, who was taken to the Maidan, said that the young people, in particular, came from Poltava and Kremenchug. Rooms were rented for 100 people. Another four young people were seized near the Arsenalnaya metro station. They were taken to the revolutionary headquarters for a “talk”. One said that he and his friends had come from Cherkasy to visit his brother just to walk around Kyiv. However, the vigilant activists who conducted the conversation checked his fists. It turned out that the bones, like those of any martial artist, were knocked down. That is, now any fighter, petist or homeless person who is not standing on the Maidan and not throwing “cocktails” at the “Berkut” is automatically equated with “hiremen of power”. If there was at least one frame of how “titushki” are caught at the scene of a crime, it would be much more reliable and convincing than this stream that flooded the networks.

Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said in general that protesters from the Maidan are capturing civilians. “At night, terrorists from the Maidan broke into hotels, captured several citizens whom they consider their opponents, and severely beat them,” he said at a government meeting. “Participants in these riots cannot be called peaceful protesters and protesters. These are criminals who must be held accountable for their actions,” the prime minister said.

And political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky generally believes that the opposition could have hired “titushki”. “These “titushki” do not in any way pull on the militants, they are rather frightened pets. I’m not going to say anything, but everything looks like a provocation from the opposition, in order to show everyone later: they say, the militants have repented, and incite the people of Kiev against the authorities, who allegedly send rioters into the city, ”he says.
