About Our Program in East Palo Alto
East Palo Alto is a small, tightly knit community in the heart of Silicon Valley. Even before its incorporation as a city in 1983, the East Palo Alto community has paved its own path with strength, leadership, and determination. Our flagship school in East Palo Alto opened in 2016 in partnership with parents, local partners, local leaders, and several other community members.
Our team is committed to delivering an excellent school program that reflects the strengths, innovation, and rich cultural diversity of East Palo Alto. We are also committed to building a school program that stands up against the racial, political, environmental, and economic injustices that have been – and continue to be – committed against the community, so that more children and families have equitable access to services and so they can achieve the outcomes they desire.
We serve over 300 students in our birth-to-three program and school program, which currently offers preschool through third grade. As a new school, we are growing one grade per year; eventually, we will grow through eighth grade. We also provide parent wellness programming for all parents and caregivers with a child enrolled in our school as well as early childhood programming for parents and toddlers.
We are proud and humbled to lead a school that was built by and for the community. Together with parents, community partners, and so many others, what we plan to continue building is an innovative program that reflects East Palo Alto’s strength, diversity, and passion.

We are currently recruiting for our newest Birth-to-Three cohort of families and children! If you live in East Palo Alto or Belle Haven and have a child born between September 2020 through August 2021 and would like to enroll in our Birth-to-Three program, please email admissions@theprimaryschool.

Our dedicated team at The Primary School has worked closely with medical experts, public health guidelines, and partners at the district and county level to develop the strongest and safest policies possible to run school during the COVID-19 pandemic. A safe start to school depends on the deep partnership and open communication between students, staff, and families. As we navigate this uncertain time, we thank you all for your patience, flexibility and cooperation as we all learn and grow together. This health and safety framework is designed to provide our most up to date school COVID-19 policies and protocols. These guidelines in our framework may change as conditions change and directives from our county and state experts change.
