Four regions of Russia have canceled classes in schools bordering Ukraine. This happened against the background of the military operation of the Russian army in the Donbass.

The authorities of the Belgorod region were the first to report the cancellation of classes in schools and kindergartens, Irina Vasilenko, head of the press service of the regional government, told RBC.

Later, Yulia Starovoitova, head of the information department of the government of the Bryansk region, told RBC about the suspension of classes in schools and kindergartens for one day in the border municipalities.

In addition, the work of institutions is limited in Dzhankoy and Dzhankoy districts, Krasnoperekopsk, Armyansk, Chernomorsky, Leninsky, Razdolnensky regions of Crimea. The head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, announced this on Telegram.

Schools and kindergartens will be closed until the end of the week, noted the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of the Republic Valentina Lavrik, Interfax reported.

The authorities of the Kursk region have transferred students to distance learning, said the governor of the region Roman Starovoit in Telegram.

On the morning of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in the Donbass. Later, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it was conducting strikes on military infrastructure in Ukraine.

90,000 how to let students be themselves but not turn school into a circus

Schoolchildren are annoyed that they are dictated what to wear to classes and how to look, and the administration advocates strictness in the appearance of children. The “Pedagogical Council” decided to find out if the school uniform really disciplines and what the students are fighting for. We are sorting it out together with Alfiya Myachina, a psychologist, teacher, organizer of traveling psychological schools for teenagers.

Highlight and equalize

The school uniform has always had two functions – to highlight and equalize.

The first form appeared almost 200 years ago during the reign of Nicholas I, it distinguished high school students from other teenagers. They were proud of her, they put her on everywhere: at school, and on the street, and on holidays.

After the revolution of 1917, everyone became equal and distinctive uniforms were not needed, and parents did not have the opportunity to buy them.

After the war, general uniforms began. In all departments – ministries, civil services, the State Bank – a strict dress code was introduced. In the late 1940s, a single uniform was introduced for schoolchildren. For girls, brown dresses with black aprons on weekdays and white aprons on holidays. For boys – first tunics, and a little later – jackets with trousers. This clothing had the task of equalizing everyone, because in the USSR no one was supposed to stand out.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the compulsory wearing of school uniforms was abolished. Children were given freedom and sought to stand out with the help of new fashionable clothes, unusual hairstyles and bright makeup. For many parents in perestroika times, this became a test: lack of work, salary delays – they could not afford to dress their children at the level of more affluent families. Social inequality became a reason for conflicts between students.

From September 1, 2013, in accordance with the law “On Education in the Russian Federation”, it was decided to return the school uniform. But not the same for everyone: each educational institution, together with students and their parents, adopts its own version.

According to the plan of the authorities, on the one hand, the school uniform equalizes the social inequality of children, on the other hand, it distinguishes students from different gymnasiums and schools.

According to the Law on Education, an educational institution has the right to require students to wear uniforms. In case of violation, the administration can make a remark, reprimand and even expel. This is where her powers end.

Even if a child comes in jeans and a T-shirt, teachers are required to let him go to class.

True, in practice this is not always observed. School workers are trying to regulate not only clothes, but also the appearance of the child. On this occasion, even several cases were initiated, but all decisions were made in favor of the students: such requirements restrict the freedom of the child to express themselves and do not contribute to the creation of conditions that respect human dignity.

Students vs.

Self-expression is a natural human need. The desire to “be different from everyone else” is especially pronounced in adolescents. They are looking for themselves, their style – this is a natural process of growing up.

Therefore, piercings, hair of an unnatural color, a lot of accessories or bright makeup appear. Teachers’ demands to wash off make-up, cut nails, and dye hair are illegal – the law “On Education” does not say anything about hair color or nail length.

Some teachers unconsciously prejudice students with outrageous appearance: they pay attention not to knowledge, but to nose piercings, multi-colored hair.

“In adolescence, the sense of justice is heightened. If teachers go to school with dyed hair, out of uniform and make-up, then why shouldn’t children do this? These double standards are very annoying for teenagers, as, in principle, for all normal people, – comments Alfiya Myachina. “Adolescence is a time of rebellion, and by nature, children need to fight with someone and defend their territory. It happens that adults behave authoritarianly, rudely and humiliatingly towards children – this gives even more reasons for war. As a result, the natural tendency to rebellion collides with the outdated requirements of schools. And teenagers start breaking the rules.”

Form and discipline

Why are teachers so strict with students? Supporters of the school uniform believe that it disciplines, sets up for study and improves academic performance.

However, science does not confirm this. In 2006-2007, an experiment was conducted in the United States: does school uniform really affect the discipline and performance of students? Two groups of children aged 11-14 participated: some wore school uniforms, others dressed loosely. As a result, it turned out that the discipline and academic performance of schoolchildren in both groups was approximately at the same level.

Does not see a direct relationship between discipline and formal clothing and Alfiya Myachina:

“I don’t think form disciplines. To have discipline, we need healthy values, clear boundaries: when we can explain the rules to children, and not dismiss them with an empty phrase “Because it’s supposed to be.”

Tatyana Esina, director of the Moscow school “Phoenix” agrees with this opinion:

“I don’t want uniforms in our school. I am against unification. And the arguments about the fact that it is beautiful, comfortable and you don’t have to think about what to put on a child are the arguments of parents, but not of children. The child is comfortable in the clothes that he likes and that he himself has chosen.

In order to maintain discipline at the same time, Phoenix established clear requirements for clothing, which were written down on paper and agreed with the children. For example, ripped jeans and shorts should not be worn. If someone breaks the rules, he goes home to change. Dreadlocks, colored hair are not banned. Three years ago, bombers or sweatshirts with the school logo appeared at the school.
