    However, sometimes we dream of this mesmerizing place full of stars and hidden secrets.

    People are creators in their essence. And even such a seemingly unchanging thing as the cosmos, they are able to adjust to suit themselves. You just need to build a special base and send it up. Yes, it’s expensive, yes, it’s difficult. But then what a view!

    The new game from Fullbright is about just that – a cozy space life… Which can be destroyed in an instant.

    Arrival

    2088, intermediate lunar station “Tacoma”. We dock our spacecraft and attach sensors for augmented reality (AR) manipulation. Following the instructions of the local artificial intelligence “ONE”, we pass into the main compartment of the abandoned complex. Task: Find data access nodes and transfer information to our starship, then extract the AI ​​and deliver it to the Venturis Corporation.

    The main character is silent. Maybe for the better – thinking out loud here would be out of place.

    In addition to the main compartment, the station has three more: “Personnel”, “Biomedicine” and “Engineering”. It will not work to start the study in any order – the plot is strictly linear. We are shown in turn all the key events that are stored in the system’s memory.

    Augmented reality plays an important role here. With its help, we track the movements of the former crew of the station, listen in on conversations and interact with the consoles of the characters. Episodes involving the team are presented in the form of a short timeline that can be wound back and forth or reset to the beginning. Recreate the exact sequence of events, such as in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter , not needed.

    It is impossible to hear the lines of all the “ghosts” at once.

    In order for data to be sent faster, it is necessary to carefully study the time periods and collect all the information. By the way, the digitized versions of the crew members look really futuristic here. Apparently, the AR recording of events saves only the silhouettes of the owners, just like in Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, where we witnessed past events in the same way.

    It is not necessary to delve into this whole story. Tacoma can be completed in a couple of hours if you wish, but this way you will deprive yourself of the most important thing in the game: storytelling about people.

    There used to be people here

    Apparently, every second crew member has coins at the station.

    In terms of situation analysis, Tacoma is not far from the same Gone Home. Almost any item can be twisted in the hands, studied up close … But putting it in your pocket will not work. Inventory is not provided, which hints at a minimum of mysteries. There are a couple of keys and access codes, but don’t expect more.

    Anyway, the game does fine without it. It is more about an interactive installation, where a monotonous search for objects is combined with an intriguing story that tells itself somewhere in the background.

    Entertainment has not been canceled!

    The lunar station has living compartments, specially equipped rooms for work… But, frankly, this is not enough. The last game of the studio made a strong emphasis on the history of two people, but here the player’s attention is sparingly divided among themselves as many as six important characters.

    Notes, personal belongings – everything is in place, it remains only to fall in love with the characters. But it doesn’t work. We learn that this nerd was very worried about being separated from his family, and this eccentric girl was well versed in artificial intelligence. That’s all. How a certain couple became close, what happened between friends is not clear. All the timing was spent on the disaster, and not on “acquaintance” with the crew. Yes, and knick-knacks with parts of correspondence are most often saved by half. You empathize with multi-colored doodles with great difficulty.

    Love relationships here are not only heterosexual. Although who is surprised by this now …

    For example, in SOMA it was much more exciting to notice the little things that the owners left behind after a nightmarish incident. Interest, of course, largely came from the plot. But why is Tacoma worse?

    In Search of Truth

    And yet, the disaster itself managed to be conveyed, if not one hundred percent, then at least 99%. Everything seems to be as usual, another calm day at the Tacoma station. But it wasn’t there!..

    There is a lot of drama.

    The team is alarmed, employees do not find a place for themselves and share sorrowful thoughts not only with each other, but also with ONE, who is in charge of the safety of the entire crew.

    Tacoma does a good job of covering two topics: the ability of artificial intelligence and life in orbit, away from earthly goods. Now these questions, whatever you say, are more relevant than ever. Moreover, the action takes place in the not so distant future – a little less than half a century has passed. At the same time, technology has not become significantly more progressive. We are all familiar with AR (at least thanks to Pokemon Go ) and almost every day we see news about another security robot with unusual behavior.

    The Tacoma Dome is a local landmark.

    But in fact, at the station you just want to live for your own pleasure. Forget about the task for a while, turn off the “ghosts” of previous residents (which, unfortunately, cannot be done) and relax in gravity flight.

    The game is very spectacular, every corner, every compartment on the base is saturated with cosmic romance. Well, the atmosphere in walking simulators plays an important role. Praise!

    The new interactive adventure from the developers of Gone Home does not shine with originality, but plays on the tender feelings of lovers of everything futuristic. At the same time, Tacoma does not forget about its origin and builds the storyline in the usual way, which will be appreciated by those familiar with the genre.     One of the best representatives of the American mid-size pickup segment is getting a restyling. The Japanese company is trying to hide a clearly manifested age, while it succeeds without much difficulty, despite the fact that, in a number of parameters, competitors under American brands were able to come out ahead.

    Pickup is unusual and ordinary at the same time, but there is no contradiction in this. This is an American model from beginning to end, it may seem specific and even strange in many countries, but in its homeland it is in place. Why is there no Hilux in the US, and why, according to some, Tacoma takes its place? The answer lies in the origin of the Hilux – originally a commercial car, focused on the countries of Asia, Africa and South America, while the Tacoma, although it has “working” versions and similarities to the Hilux, has always been a purely “civilian” model, focused on competition. with specific “Americans”.

    In the first generation, which appeared in 1995, the Tacoma was positioned as a “compact pickup”, but in the second and third it became a medium-sized one. The main competitors are Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, Jeep Gladiator and Honda Ridgeline. This is not a complete list of segment participants, but the rest of the representatives in the role of catching up.

    The third generation Tacoma appeared in 2015, the current restyling is the first major, although updates appear every year. Looking ahead, it can be noted that more was expected from modernization, but almost everything that has been done is really good.

    One of the most frequently criticized points is that the driver’s seat is too low for a pickup truck. Almost 5 years after the release of the third generation on sale, Toyota reacted to criticism, and even then in a peculiar way: the seats remained the same, but received height adjustment. Problem solved? Yes, but only in the upper trim levels, and buyers of the base Tacoma, as before, will be unhappy.

    We installed a new multimedia system with support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa, improved navigation, improved the interface: there is a minimum of criticism here. Finishing materials remained very simple and even rough. In terms of quality, the Tacoma performs worse than even the Gladiador, not to mention the wonderful Honda Ridgeline interior – soft and comfortable. As before, the one-and-a-half cab version is not suitable for passengers in the back row – it is so crowded there that even children will not fit. The most common two-row cab has 200mm more rear seat laps, but the Ford Ranger and Honda Ridgeline are still roomier.

    Tacoma’s cargo capabilities are in a winning position. Firstly, Toyota is one of the few in the segment that offers two cargo platforms to choose from (5- and 6-foot), and secondly, in the version with a one-and-a-half cab and rear-wheel drive, the pickup truck’s load capacity is one of the highest in the class – 735 kg. For comparison, with a two-row cab and 4×4 – only 530 kg.

    Tacoma can tow a trailer weighing up to 3,080 kg, according to this indicator, it is inferior in the corresponding modifications to competitors from GM and Ford (from 3,400 kg), but outperforms the “Japanese”: the outdated Nissan Frontier pulls 2950 kg, and the outsider here is Ridgeline (2,270 kg).

    The engine range in the 2020 version is the same. Base – 4-cylinder 2.7-liter, it develops 159 hp. power and 244 Nm of torque. This is the weakest option in the entire segment (the closest point is 200 hp in a 2.5-liter Chevy Colorado), but, oddly enough, it is in demand. Transmission – 6-speed “automatic”.

    Much closer to the idea of ​​American pickup trucks 3.5-liter V6, developing 278 hp. power and 360 Nm of torque. It is also combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but the “trick” of the Tacoma with the V6 is that “mechanics” are also provided. A 6-speed manual transmission (which replaced the 5-speed in 2017) is offered in off-road versions from TRD, along with a modified suspension and a number of other changes that give the Tacoma one of its main advantages: off-road capability. In terms of its off-road qualities, Tacoma will not yield to anyone in the segment, but will win over many. Not all competitors have versions that match the TRD Off Road and TRD Pro equipment, but even the base all-wheel drive Tacoma V6 4×4 has decent potential.

    The presence of “mechanics” does not give any tangible advantages – it is offered for marketing reasons and to reach a larger audience of off-road enthusiasts. There are small complaints about the operation of the “automatic machine”: in difficult conditions, it sometimes frantically searches for the desired stage, but most often this is compensated by switching to a lower row in the transmission – a 2-speed “razdatka” is available in all all-wheel drive versions.

    Tacoma is not the best car for the highway, it is noticeably lagging behind the more modern Cororado and, moreover, from the Ridgeline, which has an almost passenger character. Despite Toyota’s best efforts, the Tacoma’s cargo habits show up every now and then when it comes to high-speed maneuvering, and on a bad road or “comb” the suspension, tuned for flotation, quickly becomes uncomfortable. On any roads of acceptable quality, the Tacoma is a comfortable car, but by the standards of the segment.

    Economy is average, but given the age, the performance is acceptable. 4-cylinder versions of 4×2 in the city consume 11.8, and on the highway 10.2 l / 100 km. With the V6 4×4, the respective figures are 13.0 and 10.7 l/100 km. Buying a 4-cylinder version will not give a radical gain in efficiency, plus only in the price of a car.

    Outside of North America, Tacoma is almost never found, but in the US, Canada and Mexico it is a popular model that makes Toyota the main sales in the pickup segment – the same Tundra is far from Tacoma in terms of demand. The price looks reasonable too – the base version of the 2020 SR will cost $27,170, the most expensive Limited with V6 and all-wheel drive is $39.910, and the $45,089 TRD Pro, which is aimed at fans of off-road versions, stands apart.

    Perhaps a pickup truck like the Tacoma would be in demand on the world market, but Toyota has a different opinion on this matter, especially considering the popularity and impeccable reputation of the Hilux.
