Gym hall, from the school yard

The three-storey school building stands next to Bertelstraße. The view of the street is asymmetrical: on the left is the side facade, which is emphasized on the left by a stepped pediment decorated with a snail. Behind it is a hipped roof. To the right of the risalit is the entrance portal, marked with the inscription Unseren Kindern/1905 . The right side of the building is covered with a tiled gable roof with dormer windows. It has a slate clock tower with a double curved hood (“clock tower”). In the right view, the gable roof is closed by the “indicated snail gable”.

Neo-Renaissance stucco building stands on a relief sandstone base. The windows are framed by sandstone walls.

Inside – an open two-bay staircase with granite steps and railings in modern style. There are also terrazzo floors. Between 19From 18 to 1938 donated stained glass windows with motifs from Grimm’s fairy tales were installed on the courtyard side.

To the left behind the school building, rotated 90 degrees, is School Gym (51°6′42. 1″ N , 13°36′32.5″ E ). It has a hipped roof with a small turret on the roof.

Since Naundorf, like Zitzschewig, belonged to the parish in the Kötzschenbroda church, the schoolchildren of the two villages went to the church school in the neighboring Kötzschenbroda. In Naundorff, people very early tried to break away from the church in school matters. Immediately after the Thirty Years’ War, the first teacher known by name, Martin Kirchbach, taught children in Naundorf and Zitzschewig from 1649to 1657 under the linear school system, i. e. every day in the room of another farmer who also fed him. . An almost continuous succession of his successors, known by name, also worked in both neighboring villages. The schoolteacher Jakob Grahl, who came from a large family of teachers, taught between 1661 and 1706. From 1668, lessons were temporarily held at his house on the connecting road between Zitzschewig and Naundorf (Coswiger Straße 8).

In 1783, the municipality of Naundorf was the first to build a public school building on the Enger (Altnaundorf 40) with one classroom in the Lößnitzortschaften, which was also used as a community center. At that time the village teacher was Johann Gottlieb Kerndt. Zitzschewig, on the other hand, only built his own school building in 1842, in accordance with the provisions of the 1835 Saxon Elementary School Act.

Due to a sharp increase in the number of pupils in Naundorf, a new primary school was built by master builder Moritz Grosse on the Schützenweg (today Bertelstraße 16) in 1877/78, but it soon became too small and in 1904/05 is explained here new school building (Bertheltstraße 10). The design architects were the Kisling brothers, who were also responsible for the construction; The executing company was the construction company of the Grosse brothers. After the opening of the new school building in Naundorf, a third teacher was hired. The Kisling brothers’ original plan called for another mirrored side façade with gable and entrance to be added to the right of the elongated class wing building so that the roof tower represented the center of the building. However, instead of this second risalit at 19On 14/1915 “the most modern school gymnasium Lessnitz [built], which could also be used for choir rehearsals and film screenings” was built.

From December 1916 to September 1919, a military kitchen was opened at the school to support the needy residents.

Since 1919 the school has been Secondary Primary School with eight teachers; there were also classes corresponding to the civil school. At the time of joining the Kötzschenbroda in 1923, there were 14 teachers in Naundorf who taught over 500 children.

During the National Socialist era, the school was named after the publicist Theodor Fritsch (1852-1933).

In 1958, the Naundorf school was transformed into a tenth grade polytechnic school. When the school in Zitzschewig (Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße 12) was closed, its service area was added to Naundorf. Since 1985, the school has been named after KPD politician Rudolf Renner (1894–1940).

After reunification the school was reorganized into an elementary school in 1992 .

Of course, a covid year can hardly be called normal learning, so it is quite difficult to objectively evaluate the 5th grade.
