OUR STAFF

Pastor Kelly was called to RLC in May 2015. She loves serving in a congregation that has a passion for weekly worship, being connected to the neighborhood, and serving our neighbors in need.

Born and raised in the western suburbs, Pastor Kelly has always considered Chicagoland home. Her call to ministry began as a teenager as she became increasingly involved in her congregation where she led worship, organized youth events and participated in service trips and national youth gatherings.

Pastor Kelly attended Valparaiso University in Indiana, where she studied English, education and theology and spent summers working at Lutheran camps in Colorado and Indiana. Following college, she entered the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC), where she received her Master of Divinity degree and completed an internship at the International Lutheran Church in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Always interested in learning more, she completed her Doctor of Ministry degree in preaching from LSTC in 2013. Before coming to RLC, she served congregations in Warren, Ohio and River Forest, Illinois.

Pastor Kelly lives in the Edgewater neighborhood with her husband Justin. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, knitting, going to the movies, and drinking strong coffee or beer (though not at the same time!).

Gary has been a beloved and talented part of the RLC community for decades! Retired from Eastern Illinois University, he taught choral and elementary music education, organ, and voice, and directed the Women’s Chorus. He previously taught music at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, and has served churches as organist/choir director in Illinois, and Washington, DC, where he performed regularly with the Washington Opera. He holds degrees from Millikin and Northwestern Universities and did his doctoral studies at the University of Illinois, UC.

Celebrating 60th Anniversary

Lutheran Church of the Resurrection celebrates 60 years of Ministry in the Oak Forest community. We will have a special service of Thanksgiving and Praise on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 9:30am. There will be an afternoon Reception (mocktail party) from 2:30pm to 5:30pm with live music, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and memories. Reservations are required by April 8th, and cost is $20 per person.

On April 14, 1963 the” Little Church on the Corner” held its first worship service. For the next 60 years it would continue “Making Christ Known to All” through its works, outreach and community activities and more.

In 1964 a Kindergarten was opened, to fill the needs of the community, by one of the church’s founding members, Ms. Gloria Thorne. It is still opening its doors to preschoolers from around the area. The preschool’s faith-based curriculum teaches children to learn and play together, strengthens language skills, develops free expression, increases their sense of independence and improves physical coordination. It provides each child with a strong foundation to ensure future success as well as teaching them that they are treasured children of God.

In 2005 the church expanded with a beautiful addition that would help them by being able to offer its facilities for outside meetings, special events, private parties and more. Through the years LCR has become known for its Vacation Bible School, Trunk or Treat, Craft Fairs, “Tapestry” a Christmas music event, Relay for Life Team and much more. Most recently it has become known for its delicious homemade Pierogies. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

When the day of the preschool worker is celebrated in. Day of the educator and all preschool workers

People often confuse the holiday Teacher’s Day and the Day of the educator, and when they find out that these are different holidays, they ask themselves the question: what date is the educator’s day in Ukraine 2017, and what is its history.

Teacher’s Day is a national holiday held on September 27th. The holiday was established in honor of the construction of the first kindergarten. It was opened by Sophia Lugibel – the wife of a St. Petersburg professor. Her efforts in 1863 on September 27 led to the creation of the first preschool institution.

This day is celebrated in Ukraine thanks to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 629. The holiday is celebrated primarily to raise the prestige of the preschool teacher profession. The main idea of the holiday is to attract public attention to the kindergarten and the work of educators in this difficult industry.
Legislation makes it clear that up to 5 years of age, parents have the right to raise children on their own, and at least a year before entering school, children must receive preschool education in a communal institution.

The first kindergartens invited children up to 8 years old. Kids in most situations learned the rules of hygiene, communication. Educators tried to give children as much information as possible about nature and the world. Modern preschool education is more extended and varied. A modern educator should not only get along very well, communicate with children, show patience and balance, but also have a very deep understanding of educational and psychological nuances, have basic medical knowledge, organizational skills and be able to organize a child’s day in such a way that it gets as close and prepared as possible. to receive further educational knowledge. The higher the quality of the skills listed above, the more correctly the child will represent the world around him and learn to listen not only to his desires, but also to those around him. boy and girl
During this period, the main vectors of morality, worldview, love and respect for the Motherland are laid. No matter how loud it may sound, but the period of preschool education can be compared with the sacrament of the transfer of the entire heritage of generations. Being an educator is a very honorable job. This is a true calling. Wisdom, patience, the ability to discover the unique skills of each child and the professionalism of our preschool workers depend on the most precious wealth that we have – the life of our children.

When the day of the educator in Ukraine in 2017 comes, parents should congratulate the educators and pay tribute to their work. This holiday is on a par with other significant holidays, so the preparation for it should be appropriate. The main gratitude, of course, should be shown by children.

Kindergarten becomes a second home for kids, where they are always ready to support and help. The educator here becomes the most faithful and most devoted friend. You can not only study with him, but also play, take a walk, even entrust him with some secret.

In Ukraine, a lot of attention is paid to the pre-school educational process. Trainings and seminars on educational topics are constantly held. A lot of time is devoted to the disclosure of the creative inclination and abilities of children. Therefore, from an early age, it is necessary to determine the mainstream for improvement and development, during the period of personality formation.

Kindergarten teachers from morning to evening give their best and are constantly next to the child, constantly teaching something new and interesting.

There are certain traditions of the teacher’s day in Ukraine.

Holiday concerts and performances are initiated in all preschool institutions;
Exhibitions of portfolios and creative works of the best educators of the region are held;
Exhibition of works by gifted children;
Seminars of modern methods of education;
Presentation of modern educational publications and the like.
By the holiday, learn a congratulatory poem with your child. Such a gift will be the best reward for the educator.

The profession of an educator and all employees of preschool institutions requires from a person deep dedication, great patience and endless love for his work. Raising our children at the beginning of their life journey is not an easy task, but our entire future depends on its successful solution. The foundation that is laid in us from childhood serves as our first support and foundation in later life. Kindergarten for kids is rightfully considered the first school of life. And no matter how strange it may seem to us, but the workers of kindergartens and other preschool institutions, together with the parents and relatives of our children, are at the forefront of our joint very near future.

Drawing public attention to the value of preschool education, the problems of preschool institutions and preschool childhood in general, for the first time in 2004 a new national holiday was established in the Russian Federation – “The Day of the Educator and All Preschool Workers”, which began to be celebrated on September 27. This became possible also thanks to the initiative of a number of all-Russian pedagogical publications.

In Ukraine, according to the site project, educators and employees of preschool institutions celebrate their professional holiday “All-Ukrainian Day of Preschool Education” on the last Sunday of September. The normative basis of the holiday is the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated April 13, 2011 No. 629″On the approval of the State target social program for the development of preschool education for the period up to 2017″ and the resolution of the I All-Ukrainian Congress of Preschool Education Workers.

Preschool age is one of the most responsible and important periods in the life of the younger generation, in which we begin to instill love for nature, the world around us, and love for the Motherland. During this period, not only the foundations of the worldview and health of the child are laid, the personality and the vector of morality are formed, but also a certain invisible sacrament occurs, which occurs only at the turn of generations – the transfer of our common heritage. Being an educator is a high calling and deep respect. The most precious thing we have – our life and our hope – depends on the professionalism, patience and wisdom of most of our educators, attention to the unique and peculiar inner world of the child.

On this special day, we join in the congratulations to our educators and all preschool workers! We express our deep gratitude! We wish them health and strong nerves, good salaries and more pleasant moments in their work, which is so necessary for all of us!

Interesting facts for the Day of the teacher and all preschool workers

Do you want to look at the world through the eyes of a teacher? Leslie Vos, teacher and blogger from Chicago, shares with readers the secrets, joys and sorrows of the life of an educator. Read more in “20 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Your Teacher”

Immediately answering the question about the Day of the Educator in 2019, what date, the date of September 27 should be noted. Despite the fact that this year it falls on a Thursday, this professional holiday is celebrated on September 27 every year. That is, the day of the week has nothing to do with it.

The name of the event indicates who should be congratulated on the holiday. We are talking about former, present and future kindergarten teachers, assistant teachers, those who are responsible for music and amateur performances, heads. This professional holiday, unlike many others, was established for two reasons. The first, most common: to pay tribute to this profession. The second reason is to draw public attention to preschool education.

  • Preschool children and their upbringing
  • How the date was chosen
  • About important gifts

Preschool children and their upbringing

Educator’s Day in 2019, what date is it celebrated in Russia in Russia? For the eleventh year, the holiday, according to the official established calendar, is celebrated on September 27. This is not an official day off, like other professional days, but an important and responsible holiday.

If we consider the field of preschool education as a whole, we can note a strong outflow of personnel. The profession of an educator has not ceased to be prestigious and, moreover, important. But the outflow occurs because of low wages, because of the attitude of parents. So, on a professional day, you need to tell your beloved teacher how dear and important he is to your family. Do not skimp on kind words, because it is not in vain that they say that the first educator is like a second mother. By the way, do you already know?

How the date was chosen

The story of how the exact date of this professional holiday was chosen is interesting. Rather, the history of dough itself is connected with the immediate history of the country. It was on September 27, back in Tsarist Russia, that the first kindergarten was opened. It happened in the then capital in St. Petersburg, and the institution was paid. Only children of wealthy parents could go to such a kindergarten.

After the socialist revolution, when it was necessary to free up women’s time for work in the field and at the factory, kindergartens began to open in many cities and towns. By then, of course, they were already free. The staff there were not world-class teachers in this field, but educators and nannies. September 27 is the date when Teacher’s Day in 2019year in Russia.

About important gifts

When the answer to the question of Teacher’s Day in 2019, what date was received, another important question immediately arises: what to give? Here already parents can add up together or organize individual gifts. But many educators emphasize that gifts are not so important. Kind words and sincere congratulations from parents, as well as from pupils, are significant.

How to congratulate educators on their professional holiday

Thank you for the work that you give to our kids every day. It’s just a blessing to have such a teacher and her assistants. Let our children become a source of creativity and inspiration for you.
In addition to interesting work and obedient children, we would like to wish you an increase in wages. Your unusual work is important for every Russian family, we know and appreciate it.
It’s not worth talking about how much you do for our child. We all understand this and are ready to say words of gratitude every day. But on a professional holiday, I would like to wish you health, happiness, strong nerves and more free time. In honor of the holiday, you can cook

Happy holiday to all educators
And preschool workers.
You are kind, resourceful,
Patient and calm.

Let luck be with you,
And success in all matters,
And, of course, inspiration –
Nothing at all without it.

And also good health,
Well, nerves in reserve.
And the cherished desire
May it come true for you!

Congratulations to all-all-all
We are in this world,
To whom in the morning in kindergarten
Children come running,
Who is loved by kids,
Who has patience.
To everyone today from the bottom of my heart –
Our congratulations.
May joy and success await.
Strength to you, inspiration.
Let children’s laughter give you
Wonderful moments.

Preschool workers,
Our respect to you,
For your hard work,
Which requires patience.

After all, the people are little ones,
Completely unpredictable,
And require attention,
Good, reasonable.

And our gratitude
Accept from the heart,
And on your “preschool” holiday
May life give you:

Prosperity in everything,
Success and love,
So that the sun’s rays
Color the days.

Without your caring hands,
Without sensitive warmth
I would be very sad
All our children.

You with affectionate attention
Surround children
And all day long until evening
You teach something.

And if suddenly the parents
Delay on the way
You will stay with the child,
You will not be able to leave.

Thank you very much,
Bow and respect to you.
I congratulate you on the holiday
May you be lucky in everything.

Teacher’s Day is the kindest holiday in the world:
It has light and kindness of relatives.
After all, workers work for the joy of
Our children, very mischievous.

A deep bow to you and many thanks
Both for your patience and for the hardest work.
After all, an educator is a teacher from the first days,
Giving knowledge, kindness, comfort to the soul!

Let fate give gifts every day,
May good luck and success accompany you.
Live happily, richly, very brightly,
And let happy children’s laughter sound!

Who can get along with children?
Who will find an approach to everyone?
Kindness who is just a storehouse?
Who is not afraid of worries?
Who will feed the fussy,
Will make the bully laugh,
Will diligently wipe away tears for everyone
And will he make crafts?

Grow up as obedient children in life!

Thank you, relatives, for your work and care,
For kindness, for happiness, for your work,
That you teach our own kids,
That you love them like your all children!

Let everything be fine in life,
Do not shed tears for you forever in vain…
We sincerely congratulate you,
We wish you health and happiness!

And teaches kids to dress.
After a walk, everyone is blown away,
And put all the children to bed.

So that good things come to you.

There is no more important profession,
How to bring up beautiful
Ill-bred children!

All employees of the kindergarten
Very happy to do this,
Hourly, daily,
Not asking for a reward.

And congratulations.
Your hard work inspires
Just an abyss of respect!

In 2004, for the first time in Russia, on the initiative of several media publications, mainly pedagogical, a new holiday was created – the Day of the educator and all employees of preschool institutions. Perhaps not everyone knows what date the teacher’s day is in Russia, but it’s September 27
, and the date for this event was not chosen by chance.

This is the day when the first kindergarten was founded in Russia. The idea of the emergence of such a new unusual institution belongs to the wife of a famous professor, philologist and teacher, who lived at that time in St. Petersburg. It is she who owns the idea of the correct upbringing of the child, and it was she who created the first methodology for raising and educating young children. This work took into account all the nuances and problems associated with creating a foundation, a foundation for educating a new person, for the emergence of an educated and diversified personality.

The idea of creating a holiday was supported by educators, parents, and subsequently, received wide discussion, and was supported at the government level. The importance of such a holiday can hardly be overestimated, because it is the kindergarten teacher who is one of the first teachers and mentors for the child. Together with parents, it is the educator who is involved in laying the foundation for the future successful development and education of the individual. Therefore, the attention of the authorities and the public should be paid to the comprehensive support of primary children’s institutions, improving the quality of education and training of personnel for kindergartens and nurseries.

In connection with the ever increasing demands of the modern school, preschool institutions play a special role in the initial preparation of future first-graders. Children come to school with a lot of knowledge and skills. Many children already in kindergarten learn to read, write, think logically and create their first creative masterpieces.

How the day of the educator is celebrated today

At present, the holiday of the educator enjoys wide support among the people. By the day of the educator, preparations are usually made for various events in kindergartens and nurseries. Thus, drawing even more attention to the work of this category of teachers.

September 27 is the Day of the Educator and Preschool Worker. On this day, the teaching staff receives congratulations in a solemn atmosphere, and the most distinguished employees are awarded, concerts and other entertainment events are held.

Usually, representatives of city and regional education departments, as well as representatives of city administrations, take part in such events.

Often, along with festive events, there is a presentation of new methods or programs to improve the quality of preparing children in kindergartens.

It is also important to constantly improve the qualifications of educators, organize special courses and lectures. Employees of children’s primary schools are called, first of all, to love their work, to be able to communicate with children, realizing the great responsibility for their activities to society.

May 1 in the world
May 1 is celebrated in Russia, America and Europe, as well as in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Moreover, in all countries it is known by names associated with the movement of workers: International Workers’ Day, Spring and Labor Day, Labor Day, Spring Day. During Soviet times in Russia, the holiday was also called May Day, because it was always celebrated on May 1st.

The history of the holiday May 1,
The first of May, as it is believed, was born from the peaceful strikes of turners, machine builders, mechanics and other workers who are tired of enduring difficult working conditions: standing in factories for 10-11 hours a day. They demanded that shifts be reduced to eight hours. By the middle of the 19th century, in the labor movement, this very requirement was one of the main ones for employers. The workers of Australia were the first who wanted eight hours, they made a demonstration on April 21, 1856.

Workers from Canada and the USA were afraid to take the initiative, they were afraid of layoffs. But when they saw what their colleagues from neighboring states received, they promptly organized similar actions.

So on May 1, 1886, large-scale bloody rallies and demonstrations began in Chicago. On the third day, the police opened fire on strikers at Cyrus McCormick’s reaper factory. Two factory workers were killed. The next day, at a rally in the Haymarket, a terrorist threw a bomb at the police, who responded by firing into the crowd. 60 police officers were injured and eight were killed. The exact number of victims has not yet been calculated. Hundreds of civilians were arrested, and seven anarchist workers were sentenced to death.

Three years later, in July 1889, the Paris Congress of the Second International, in solidarity with the Chicago workers, declared May 1 as the day of the annual labor demonstrations. The following year, on May 1, 1890, the holiday was held in Austria-Hungary, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Spain, Italy, USA, France, Norway and Sweden. Only in the UK demonstrations with slogans about the demand for an 8-hour working day took place on May 4th.

In 1891, by decision of the Brussels Congress of the Second International, Great Britain and some other countries moved the date of demonstrations to the first Sunday in May.

The history of Labor Day in the USSR and Russia
In Russia, the first celebratory gathering of workers was held in Petrograd (now St. Petersburg) in 1891. The event was organized by the Social Democratic group of the revolutionary Mikhail Brusnev. A few years later, mayevkas became widespread – meetings of revolutionary-minded workers, usually outside the city, where festivities were accompanied by fiery political speeches. From the very beginning of the 20th century, May 1 began to be celebrated with strikes and demonstrations, but not on a working day. If May 1 fell on, for example, Wednesday, the rallies were postponed to the next Sunday.

This year our team celebrated the Day of the Preschool Worker ahead of schedule. We spent the last warm days of this year outdoors.

an employee in preschool education

In the last days of September, the professional holiday of all preschool workers is celebrated – the Day of the preschool worker. This holiday is still very young, but our institution has a tradition of holding it. Thanks to this date, it became possible to thank those without whom the life of children in a preschool institution would not be so exciting, safe and even tasty. Unlike holidays, during which children are in the center of attention, on this day, congratulations were received by employees of the preschool educational institution. After all, it is they who lay the foundation for the character and abilities of children, teach them to comprehend the secrets of the world around them, love their homeland, give the first communication skills in a team, instill self-confidence, the ability to overcome difficulties, make decisions, take responsibility for their actions, find compromises.

The morning of September 27 in our kindergarten began very brightly and cheerfully. Children and their parents were met by creative and talented teachers who escorted the children to their group playgrounds with songs and dances. During the day, a festive concert was held for all employees of the kindergarten. At which children of middle, senior, preparatory groups performed. They sang songs, recited poems and danced. All rooms were bright, interesting, beautiful.

Parents also took an active part in this holiday. Many kind and pleasant words were said to the kindergarten workers, and congratulations were left in the wish book.

Further members of the Trade Union Committee of the MADOU MO Krasnodar “Kindergarten No. 170” Laypanova Svetlana Nikolaevna and Markaryan Tamara Akopovna, with the assistance of the head Sinichuk Olga Ilyinichna, organized a weekend trip to the recreation center “Old Kuban”. All interested employees went on an interesting journey along the Kuban River, tasted national cuisine, and also took an active part in folk dances.

The patriotic action started exactly at 04:00 – on the memorable date and time of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in 1941.

At 03.30, participants of the patriotic action “Candle of Memory” gathered on the Main City Square, lit candles to proceed along Krasnaya and Severnaya Street to the Heroes’ Memory Square to the memorial complex “Eternal Flame”, where a funeral requiem was organized.
