Parent: This school is amazing. Immersion is beautiful and the school does an outstanding job. We love the staff. We have never had any bad interactions with anyone staff or students. I believe Covid was such a large factor that hindered some kids (inperson learning). Most of the students are just as proficient in English as they are in French. Parent: This is a wonderful school. The teachers are second to none. My children have attended for several years and we would not move them anywhere else. The teachers have been very responsive, their education is way ahead of target. The teachers do more with less. They are extremely engaging and creative. My kids love school. There could always be more diversity. The children are all taught to be kind from a young age and socially rewarded for that kindness and this shows in their interactions. The teachers 100% care about each child. They are fun and fresh with the children. The administration has always been responsive. I would not have my children anywhere else. They absolutely deserve their blue star status. Middle School Student: Schneckenburger is an amazing school, when I first came to the US from Puerto RicoI went to this school in 2nd Grade I did not know any english and the teachers supported me and helped me learn quickly and in a fun way, with their help I learned english in as quickly as two months. Senior: Pretty good school but also very tedious. There are some teachers that gives an awful amount of schoolwork, but having good time management and actually doing your work will get you through. Freshman to Junior year were pretty chill, but reaching Senior year was when things started to get very tedious, especially when you had to focus on both personal and school life. Students were well-behaved but a lot of them, mainly freshmen, always get caught vaping in the bathroom. I advise that you do these activities at your own personal time because it’s incredibly annoying when the bathrooms are closed at certain times. The school definitely needs a lot of improvements like being a specific race to enter school because of “racial ratio” (don’t know why that’s a thing), how education supposed to work (take Finland for ex.), and making a better schedule (not that hard). To all the freshmen of Kenner Discovery, don’t mess with the teachers nor the seniors. Know your place…. Read 29 reviews

The curriculum of the school from the 2nd grade includes the study of English. For successful learning and acquaintance with the language in the 1st grade, English is studied in the extracurricular activities “English through a fairy tale”.

To achieve successful education and upbringing, teachers and students are assisted by a school psychologist and speech therapist.

A school speech therapist is working to prevent writing disorders in students of grades 1 and to eliminate dysgraphia (violation of written speech), dysorphography (the inability to master spelling rules against the background of violations of oral and written speech) in children of grades 2,3,4.

Students have the opportunity to receive qualified assistance in preparing lessons.

In addition to hot breakfast and lunch, children can also drink tea or juice with pastries in the school cafeteria.

The school has 8 primary classrooms. Primary school teachers pay attention to working with gifted children. The school has created conditions for the participation of children in Russian Olympiads and competitions: in Russian “Russian Bear”, in mathematics “Kangaroo”, in English “British Bulldog”.

During the summer holidays, the city recreation camp “Peterburzhets” worked at the school, which was recognized as the winner of the nomination “The best organization of a summer recreation campaign based on a day camp” of the annual review competition for the best organization of a summer recreation campaign in 2012.

Primary school education is the foundation, the foundation of all subsequent education. In our school, junior schoolchildren are taught using modern interactive technologies aimed at forming an active, intellectually developed personality who owns a solid base of knowledge, skills, who is able and willing to learn. Primary school teachers use both traditional and new pedagogical technologies and forms of educational activities in their work, trying to develop the child’s personality as much as possible. Therefore, at present, the school is actively implementing the requirements and provisions of the new generation educational standard.

We have put together a guide to the best schools in Portugal: how to enroll a child in a school, how much tuition will cost and how to study for free.

How to send your child to a Portuguese school

Primary education in Portugal can be obtained not only by citizens of the country, but also by foreigners. In most schools, students learn Portuguese, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, and also receive education through international programs.

We have already talked about how the school system works in the article “Education in Portugal: Kindergartens, Schools and Universities”. Let us briefly recall the features.

Choice of school. Schools in Portugal are divided into two types: public, where teachers teach in Portuguese, and international – with programs in English. The cost of education depends on the prestige of the school and the composition of teachers: the more foreign teachers, the more expensive.

Stages of learning. Education at school consists of three stages: preparatory, basic and high school.

Preparatory classes accept children from three to five years old. Training in them is optional.

Basic school education is received for nine years, between the ages of 6 and 15. For the next three years, schoolchildren study according to the general program if they are going to enter universities, or according to the technological program if they plan to work immediately after school.

Calendar and schedule. The school year in Portuguese schools starts in mid-September. There is no fixed date: the Portuguese Ministry of Education recommends when to start studying, for example from September 15 to 20, and the school administration independently determines the date of the first classes.

Vacation dates are also not fixed. At the beginning of the academic year, they are approved by the Ministry of Education of Portugal.

Pupils have two weeks off at Christmas and Easter. Classes are closed for a week from the end of February to the beginning of March, when the Mardi Gras carnival takes place.

The longest holidays are summer holidays: they start in early July.

Lessons last 90 minutes. Classes are held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but parents are allowed to bring their children to class by 7:30 a.m. From 17:00 to 19:00, a student can be left for an extension.

Unlike Russian schools, Portuguese schools consist of several buildings. Students under the age of 10 study separately from senior students.

Program. At primary school, they study Portuguese, mathematics, science, music, drawing, physical education. English is studied from the third grade. Children of foreigners can attend additional free Portuguese lessons.

If parents believe that a child needs the help of a psychologist to adapt, the school provides a specialist free of charge. To apply, you must contact the class teacher.

An additional advantage of Portuguese schools is that you do not need to buy textbooks and diaries. The administration issues a QR code, according to which parents pick up textbooks from the school library or a specialized store. Diaries are also free. Parents pay only for backpacks and stationery.

Admission procedure. Children who are six years old before September are admitted to the first grade in Portugal.

Enrollment in schools opens in May. Information on the number of free places can be clarified on the school website or in the administration.

In order for a child to be enrolled in a Portuguese school, an application must be submitted electronically. Attached to the application:

Copies of passports of the parents and the child.
Medical certificate with vaccination information translated into Portuguese.
Father’s or mother’s individual tax number.
Student’s personal file.
Two photographs for a personal file.
Documents confirming the address of residence. For example, a certificate of ownership for an apartment or a lease agreement.

Foreign students. Families who move to Portugal from Russia need to prepare documents in advance and certify them with an apostille at the Russian Ministry of Education. Private and public schools in Portugal

Portuguese schools are divided into public and private.

Public schools are free for citizens of the country and families who have received a residence permit in Portugal.
