Learning montessori: What Is Montessori Education
What Is Montessori Education
Montessori education helps develop all aspects of the child.
What is Montessori education? For more than a century now, the child-focused approach that Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician, developed for educating children has been transforming schools around the globe.
As soon as you enter a classroom, you know that something different is afoot. Montessori classrooms are immediately recognizable. You will see children working independently and in groups, often with specially designed learning materials; deeply engaged in their work; and respectful of themselves and their surroundings.
The Montessori Method fosters rigorous, self-motivated growth for children and adolescents in all areas of their development—cognitive, emotional, social, and physical.
When a child is given a little leeway, he will at once shout, ’I want to do it!’ But in our schools, which have an environment adapted to children’s needs, they say, ‘Help me to do it alone. ’

CORE Components
TERMINOLOGY
Montessori education is student-led and self-paced but guided, assessed, and enriched by knowledgeable and caring teachers, the leadership of their peers, and a nurturing environment.
Within the community of a multi-age classroom—designed to create natural opportunities for independence, citizenship, and accountability—children embrace multi-sensory learning and passionate inquiry. Individual students follow their own curiosity at their own pace, taking the time they need to fully understand each concept and meet individualized learning goals.
Given the freedom and support to question, probe deeply, and make connections, Montessori students grow up to be confident, enthusiastic, and self-directed learners and citizens, accountable to both themselves and their community. They think critically, work collaboratively, and act boldly and with integrity. What better outcome could you wish for your children?
Rather than simply filling children with facts, Montessori education strives to nurture each child’s natural desire for knowledge, understanding, and respect.

Why Choose Montessori
What is Montessori? Seven principles
Montessori is a scientifically based education approach that emphasises independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development. It was developed by Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori.
Montessori education is based on the belief that all children are unique individuals, that they all have immense potential, that they want to learn and be busy. Therefore the teacher needs to guide each child through the learning process by using materials that fit their specific needs and pace.
A Montessori education is based on the seven principles:
Maria Montessori
FREE CHOICE
Learning and well-being are improved when children have a sense of control over their lives. Although Montessori programs impose definite limits on this freedom, children are free to make many more decisions than are children in traditional classrooms: what to work on, how long to work on it, with whom to work on it, and so on.
ORDER
Recent research in psychology has proven that order in the environment is indeed very helpful to learning and development. Montessori classrooms are very organised, both physically (in terms of lay-out) and conceptually (in terms of how the use of materials progresses).
INTEREST
Your gut feeling is right: Research has shown that when people learn with the goal of doing well on a test, their learning is superficial and quickly forgotten. Children (and yes, adults, too) learn better when they are interested in what they are learning.
LEARNING FROM PEERS
Children in Montessori classrooms learn by imitation models, through peer tutoring, and in collaboration. In mixed age classes, younger children learn from older ones by asking them questions while watching them work. Older children who are teaching younger children repeat and consolidate their knowledge and skills and obtain social skills.
MOVEMENT
Our brains evolved in a world in which we move and do, not a world in which we sit at desks. Movement and cognition are closely entwined. Education, therefore, would involve movement to enhance learning.
CONTEXT
Rather than learning largely from what teachers and texts say to them, children in Montessori programmes learn largely by doing. Because they are doing things, rather than merely hearing and writing, their learning is situated in the context of actions and objects. For example, children go out of the classroom and into the world to research their interests.
TEACHER GUIDANCE
Montessori teachers provide clear limits but set children free within these boundaries. They sensitively respond to children’s needs while maintaining high expectations. This kind of ‘authoritative parenting’ seeks a middle ground between a traditional, authoritarian attitude (“Do it because we say so”) and an overly permissive, child-centred approach of other progressive schools.

In our training center, calls are periodically heard with the following content: “I have a higher pedagogical / psychological / some other education / education and work experience . .. tsent years. I have read all the books / articles on the Internet / … / on the Montessori method. Perhaps I no longer need such long courses? And you have to disappoint the caller. After all, no matter how many books you read, for example, on surgery, or on psychotherapy, or on music, you will not become either a surgeon, or a psychotherapist, or a musician. In all these cases, a lot of PRACTICE is also required. Only in practice can one learn to distinguish between the individual structural features of the body or soul of one’s patient, to understand unspoken and unconscious needs. And in order to touch hearts with music, it is important to learn to feel yourself and master the technique of self-expression. nine0021
Therefore our course is PRACTICE oriented. Observations in a group, observations of children and their relationships with the world and with each other, observations accompanied by an experienced colleague, followed by a joint analysis of what they saw. Observations take place in the family club “Flashlight” – our base site. And then it turns out that a novice teacher often simply misses 2/3 of the important information, and misinterprets the remaining third. And this is where the real learning begins. It turns out that materials work differently with different children, and presentations do not always need to be done, and not always in the same way. And the most difficult thing in the work of a Montessori teacher is not to remember the right presentation in time, but to understand it. Does the child really need our help? nine0021
That’s why our course is slow. In terms of volume and content, it is close to foreign analogues. But for convenience, learning is divided into several steps – stages (see here). It looks like a spiral staircase. With each turn, the student seems to be repeating the old, but at the same time, he plunges deeper and deeper into the understanding of the movements of the child’s soul, and into the subtleties of building a developing environment, and into the mysteries of his own inner world.

You need Montessori material for practicing, but you determine the place and time of training yourself.
After the purchase, access to the course remains with you forever.
The same requirements and exam as for full-time students.
Based on the results of the exam, graduates receive documents on completion of the course:
for children from 8 months to 6 years old since 1997
Our course is not only information, but also a living experience that is passed from hand to hand. Therefore, in Montessori courses at AMPR, all teachers are working Montessori teachers. During the academic year, our course starts at 1 pm because we work with children in the mornings. nine0021
All content of courses for Montessori teachers 3-6 and 0-6 is divided into blocks:
The Theory course takes the form of lectures and is accompanied by photo and video materials.
In the courses of ALS, sensorics, mathematics, Russian language and space, teachers show and discuss presentations, exercises, three-step lessons with each Montessori material, and students practice all the skills of working with the material on their own and accompanied by a teacher. (The material is available for working out 24 hours a day.) At the end of each of these sections (except for Space) is a test. nine0021
During the entire Montessori course, our students get acquainted with the primary sources, and at the end they write an essay on one of the works of Maria Montessori.
After three weeks of training, we invite our students, one at a time, to observe in their groups.
You can study Montessori pedagogy using the “immersion” method – 6 weeks in a row, or you can break the course into blocks and take them for 1-2 years with different groups. (The course of Maria Montessori herself lasted 1 month, but we just can’t fit in – we have children in the morning!)
For those who have successfully passed the exam, further internship is possible for 1 month in one of the basic groups of AMPR.
