“For Whom the Bell Tolls” – VHL Championship

Results of the gaming day on January 20, 2021.

In Barnaul “Altai” wins back from 0:2 and puts the squeeze on “Krasnoyarsk Lynx” in overtime. In Naberezhnye Chelny, the new goalkeeper of the hosts earns two points for his team and a “rusk” for himself. And in Cheboksary, the “heroes” are losing everything that was acquired by overwork. These are the main events of the fourth game day of the ninth round of the VHL championship of the 2020/21 season, which summed up the entire round.

Teacher’s Day is usually followed by the Feast of Disobedience. And if on the first day the younger ones listen to the elders and gratefully perceive all the pokes and cracks, then what happens the next day is best described in that issue of Yeralash, where Gennady Khazanov speaks Italian.

Did the Disobedience Festival turn out in the VHL championship? Probably not to the full extent, since in Naberezhnye Chelny, with the help of a new, but rabid goalkeeper, the Junior was built into a column of three and sent to “sweep the parade ground”. But in Barnaul, the “lynxes” rested the whole match and rested on a whole point. And in Cheboksary, Kristall, to a deafening ovation from Barnaul, took away from the “heroes” everything that had been acquired by overwork. And now Altai is only three points behind the leader.

Thus, the ninth round was a success. And how exactly he succeeded in his last quarter is our today’s story.

Dynamo-Altai – Krasnoyarsk Lynx – 3:2 OT (0:1, 0:1, 2:0 – 1:0)

In the three previous matches of the series, Dynamo-Altai scored four points, Krasnoyarsk Lynx – two, but the result of the guests looked more solid for them than four points for the Barnaul team. Although the wards of Anatoly Stepanov lost third place to the Saratov “Crystal”, but the game at the same time showed a very mature and thorough.

In the fourth match of the series, the solid game of the “lynxes” lasted for two whole periods. The first turned out, in principle, equal. True, the statistics showed a slight advantage of the hosts, but what does it matter if the Barnaul team failed to score? But Krasnoyarsk managed to break through Nikita Lozhkin once, and it was a good start.

In the second dvadtsatiminutke guests looked more interesting. And they attacked more and threw more often. And once again they shook the Barnaul goalkeeper to the core, and at the same time the Barnaul stands, making the score already 2:0 in your favor.

It is clear that in the second break, Alexander Usachev carried out both psychological preparation and certain changes in the composition. The Krasnoyarsk removals came in very handy, which the hosts took advantage of twice with a difference of two and a half minutes. The score became equal already at the beginning of the third period, and the situation itself unobtrusively hinted that the Barnaul team should have received a solid moral superiority, and they had time to finish off the guests, who gave up slack in the final third of the match.

And indeed, the third period passed with the playing advantage of the hosts, even despite the fact that they had to play three of them against five “lynxes” for almost a minute. However, no more goals were scored during the regular time of the match, and the game smoothly flowed into overtime. And there the master’s advantage in individual skill has already affected. Dynamo took less than two minutes to break through Dimitry Raiko for the third time, who, by the way, worked this match very reliably.

3:2 OT – Altai’s victory, which even before the start of the Cheboksary match predetermined that Barnaul would not be more than five points behind the “bogatyrs”. The point scored by the guests in regular time allowed them to return to the third line in the standings – again, at least until the end of the Cheboksary match.

On the whole, if we consider the entire series from the standpoint of the marks that we planned back in the preview for the ninth round, then the Barnaul team, for whom there were no “good” marks at all, earned a strong three, maybe even with a plus. But Krasnoyarsk, despite the fact that they scored half as many points as Altai, pulled out a four with a minus with their teeth. Because scoring three points on the court of one of the leaders is much more expensive than home matches of the leader with one of yesterday’s outsiders.

On this, the Barnaul series ended, “Altai” began to gather in Kurgan, where he, too, would not be smeared with honey. “Krasnoyarsk lynxes” went home to receive “Cheboksary” there. There is not much time left before the playoffs and matches.

HC Cheboksary – Kristall – 2:4 (1:0, 0:2, 1:2)

Since the Cheboksary match, as usual, began about an hour after the end of the Barnaul match, the disposition was clear even before the first throw-in. Cheboksary needed a victory in order to keep Dynamo away from the first place closer than five points. Kristall, in turn, needed at least a point to return to third place, from which Krasnoyarsk Lynx had just moved it. In principle, there was a result that satisfies both high parties – the victory of the “bogatyrs” outside of regular time. But it would have been too easy, and neither Cheboksary, nor, moreover, Saratov people are looking for easy ways, so the battle was expected to be epoch-making.

At first, everything went according to the master’s scenario. Cheboksary had not too solid, but still an advantage, which towards the end of the first period was embodied in an abandoned puck. Saratov “our everything” Sergey Pavlov was broken from about the seventh or eighth shot on target, and this minimum result looked quite logical in the first third of the match – 1:0 .

After the break, the Saratov team, having found internal reserves, began to gradually, slowly win back the initiative. They managed to recoup quite quickly, within twenty seconds after the start of the second period. But the guests did not stop there, they tirelessly climbed the gate Roman Golovanova the whole period, and still managed to organize the second goal, which turned out to be “in the locker room”. The score 2:1 in favor of “Crystal” satisfied the Saratov team “to the very baldness”, but did not climb into any Cheboksary gates, therefore, in the third period, a “bloody bath” should have been expected from the “heroes”.

With such a “slippery” account, the third period began “at a glance-bite”. Everyone was afraid to make a mistake, because with such handsome goalkeepers, one single puck could easily solve everything. By the fifth minute, it gradually turned into a bulk on the guest gate, where the hosts still pushed the puck “with meat”. 2:2 – the stands exhaled, but the Cheboksary residents themselves exhaled at the same time. And they couldn’t have done that. Because a failure in defense immediately followed, and the “eternal hope” of the VHL championship Alexander Gibert immediately punished Cheboksary for a moment of weakness.

3:2 – and for everything about everything Alexander Protapovich’s wards had a minute to spare. 50 seconds before the siren, Golovanov gave way to the sixth field player, but this led to the opposite of the expected result – Kristall scored the fourth puck into an empty net.

4:2 in favor of “Crystal”, which in one fell swoop not only regained the long-suffering third place, but also gained a foothold in it alone, leaving the “Lynxes” one point behind. Cheboksary did not keep a five-point lead over Barnaul – now it is only three points. This, of course, is not yet the distance of a pistol shot, but still three is less than five, and this mathematics warms the suffering hearts of Barnaul.

Chelny – Junior – 3:0 (0:0, 1:0, 2:0)

It looks like the new goalkeeper of Chelny Anton Borodkin came to court, at least Aidar Musakaev . Because under the current formula they don’t put unloved goalkeepers in the goal for two days in a row, especially if there are alive and healthy Nikita Tsirkul and Mikhail Dorofeev in the reserve. And the final match of the Chelny-Kurgan series became a real benefit for the new goalkeeper, who received a lot of applause in two hours and repelled 31 own shot.

The fourth match in Chelny turned out to be rather cautious. Of course, both of them were looking for happiness in the attack, but at the same time no one forgot that this very happiness in modern hockey is forged mainly at their own gates. There were enough deletions from both sides, but the account was opened only in the second period and in equal compositions.

Further, the goalkeepers again became the best, and they were such until the 55th minute. Here, Junior, already losing by one puck, had no choice but to go forward with the whole team and open up. And Chelny residents, it seems, were just waiting for this. With an interval of three minutes, they drove two more nails into the coffin of Kurgan hopes and set the final score at 3:0 . Which testified not only to the third victory of “Chelny” in this series, but also to the first “rusk” of goalkeeper Borodkin, with whom the Tatarstan club looks completely different.

This ended the series in Naberezhnye Chelny and the ninth round in general. In the next round, Junior will host Dynamo-Altai, and the Tatarstan team, who will not see their native ice until the playoffs, will go to sunny Saratov.

What did we take away from the ninth round? First of all, what awaits us this season is a breathtaking playoff, which earlier, with the living Rostov, Tambov and the eternal memory of Mordovia, did not exist and could not exist. What we have today are both leaders and outsiders, but leaders are such that no one is particularly afraid of them, and outsiders can break anyone on the first number, even the current champion on his ice.

And our biography of the 2020/21 season of the VHL championship is suspended at this point. Not for long, the next, tenth, round starts the very next Tuesday. We won’t miss hockey!

“Phoenix bird”

The newborn temple, like a phoenix bird, was reborn from the ashes. In 1930, Big Chrysostom, devoid of bells by that time, was destroyed, after the planned explosion, only the foundation survived. However, it was discovered only during archaeological research before the start of the restoration of the temple. It was possible to recreate the Great Chrysostom almost in its original form thanks to the drawings and photographs preserved in the archives.

In the Middle Urals, modern Big Chrysostom has been dubbed a long-term construction – six years have passed from the moment the first stone was laid in the foundation of the temple to its consecration, which was headed by Metropolitan Kirill of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye on February 9. In fact, the temple-bell tower was recreated in record time – for comparison, the “older” Big Chrysostom was erected for 29 years.

As you know, for the sake of the revival of the Maximilian Church, the Ural Bolshevik Ivan Malyshev had to be pressed out. In order to move the 160-ton monument to the Iset embankment, they even had to order special truck cranes from Moscow and Nizhnekamsk.

All the bells

The restored Great Chrysostom is a unique temple even by modern standards. Let’s start with the fact that this is the highest bell tower of the metropolis. In addition, the main bell of Chrysostom weighing 16 tons also has no competitors in the entire Middle Urals. Its prototype was once also famous for its size.

– In pre-revolutionary times, the main bell of the Big Chrysostom was the 23rd by weight in Russia and the 35th in the world, – says the senior bell ringer of the Yekaterinburg diocese, Protodeacon Dmitry Bazhanov. – His voice was heard even on the outskirts of Yekaterinburg. And today, despite the development and abundance of transport, the main bell of the Big Chrysostom can be heard within a radius of several kilometers.

In addition to the giant, there are 13 more bells on the belfry of the temple, weighing from 3 tons to 6 kilograms. According to Father Dmitry, the best ringers of the Yekaterinburg diocese will “animate” them.

Another characteristic feature of the revived temple is the ceramic iconostasis, the work of the famous Ural potter Andrey Savitsky.
