Seeking an in-person (in school), part-time tutor for Math, English, and general learning skills for our 13-year-old boy adopted from Bulgaria, Nov 2021. He didn’t attend school until he was 8 years old. He’s been learning English for 14 months and making good progress. He’s good natured, hard-working, and eager to learn, but missed out on many key concepts and learning skills. Our goal is for him to learn the K-3 curriculum and learning skills he never received, then continue trying to catch up to his peers, broadening subject matter as we go. He attends a good public school, but lacks targeted support for his particular circumstances. They agreed to adjust his schedule to allow for a private tutor in-school during the school day. Schedule, pay can adjust somewhat for the right applicant. School district clearances required.

5 main rules for spring houseplant care. Photo – Botanichka

With the approach of spring, houseplants gradually come out of dormancy and begin to grow. Indeed, already in February, the day becomes noticeably longer, and the sun warms up in a completely spring-like way. How to help flowers wake up and prepare them for the growing season? What should be paid attention to and what measures should be taken so that the plants are healthy, bloom, multiply and delight? We will talk about what houseplants expect from us in the spring in this article.

5 main rules for houseplant care in spring

1. Lighting in spring

Spring often comes unexpectedly and abruptly – after cloudy snowy days, a bright sun suddenly peeps out and begins to scorch mercilessly. At this time, it is important to provide indoor plants with a gradual awakening. If the flowers are on a sunny windowsill, they need shading, even if they are sun-loving plants.

On a clear day, the sun’s rays will warm up not only the glass, but also the window sill, and when the batteries are running, the air temperature can rise significantly, which will greatly complicate the life of plants. If possible, it is better to remove the flowers in a sufficiently lit place, but away from direct sunlight.

2. Pruning and rejuvenation

Many indoor plants continue to grow in winter. The lack of light in winter has a deplorable effect on the appearance of some flowers – their shoots are drawn out, and the leaves turn pale or partially crumble. Spring is the time to bring such specimens in order.

Long shoots of many plants can and even need to be shortened, giving the bush or tree the correct shape. They respond well to pruning vines. The shoots of scindapsus, syngonium, hoya and many other plants stretch strongly during the winter, giving the plant an untidy appearance. Shortening such shoots will help the flower grow a new green mass and return to its former splendor.

This does not only apply to creepers. Ficuses, bougainvilleas, pelargoniums, tradescantia and many others, both flowering and decorative leafy houseplants, are very positive about pruning. An exception are plants in which flowering occurs on overwintered shoots – continuous pruning is contraindicated for such flowers. You can only slightly adjust the shoots, if necessary.

Many older plants may require rejuvenation treatments and are also best done in the spring. For some, rejuvenation will consist in strong pruning – as a rule, these are adult plants that have grown and lost their shape. And flowers such as, for example, old Reo or chlorophytum cannot be rejuvenated by any pruning. You have to replace the old copy with a rooted layering. In spring, children take root very well and after a short period of time turn into beautiful well-groomed plants.

3. Transplanting

The best time to transplant indoor flowers is March-April. Transplantation, first of all, is necessary for young plants, because starting to grow, the root system will require more space and nutrients. Therefore, young plants need a larger container, and new fertile soil. Adult, well-overwintered plants do not need an annual transplant. For them, it is enough to replace the top layer of the earth – this will make it possible to transplant flowers once every two to three years.

Many indoor plants do not tolerate winter well – dry warm air from heating appliances and often cold window sills do not have the best effect. The leaves turn yellow and fall, and the plants themselves look oppressed. Such specimens are transplanted first.

If there is a suspicion of overflow, then, when transplanting, it is necessary to clean the roots of the old soil and wash them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate, and then plant them in a clean pot with fresh soil.

Flowering plants should not be transplanted, as many are still in bloom at this time. Nothing bad will happen if orchids, late Decembrist, hibiscus or bougainvillea are transplanted after flowering – in early summer.

At the end of February and beginning of March, tubers and bulbs are taken out of cool storages. Often by this time the first awakening buds already appear on the tubers. Such plants are planted in containers with soil, moistened and placed on a bright window.

Gloxinia, calla lilies, cyclamen, room sorrel, some types of begonias, waking up in the spring, will require some attention. In order for the tubers to start growing, a certain soil moisture is necessary, but overflows at this time are dangerous, so watering must be taken with full responsibility.

4. Watering and feeding

Emerging plants will need increased watering, but it is best to do this gradually. Water for any flowers should be soft, at room temperature. The same water can be sprayed on plants, but only those that need it.

In March, houseplants are usually fertilized. The exception to the rule are transplanted flowers. The new soil contains everything you need for nutrition, so after transplanting you can forget about feeding for a month.

When choosing a fertilizer, it is important to pay attention to which flowers this or that preparation is intended for. Decorative leafy and beautifully flowering plants need different compositions. Nitrogen contributes to the rapid growth of shoots, and potassium and phosphorus – the formation of buds and lush flowering. Therefore, it is best to purchase a special fertilizer for specific flowers and follow the recommendations in the instructions for the drug.

And their choice today is huge – both powder, and tablets, and liquid. And especially for those who are very busy, they came up with fertilizer sticks – put them in the ground and forgot. In my experience, I would recommend liquid products, alternating mineral and organic top dressing. With this method, the plants will receive everything they need in an easily accessible form, and how much and what exactly the sticks will give is not yet known.

5. Propagation – cuttings, division, sowing seeds

Propagation for keen flower growers is the most interesting stage in growing indoor plants. And this is also best done in the spring, because it is at this time that the plants awaken, and take root, take root, they are also best at this time.

During the rejuvenation pruning of some plants, cuttings can be prepared. To do this, cut shoots are divided into parts so that each has at least 2-3 internodes.

Difficult-to-root cuttings are first placed in a solution of “Epin” or “Zircon” for 3-4 hours, then rinsed with clean water and, dipped in Kornevin powder, immersed in a prepared container with moist soil. The soil around the handle is lightly pressed, gently watered and, having covered the container with a film in the form of a greenhouse, removed to a warm, bright place. The greenhouse is ventilated daily and the soil is always kept moist.

Cuttings of Benjamin ficus, hibiscus, bougainvillea, myrtle and other plants with woody shoots root well in this way.

Indoor creepers, pelargoniums, dieffenbachia easily take roots in water. The main thing at the same time is not to pour a full jar of water, otherwise the roots that appear will suffocate without air access. The cuttings should be immersed in water no more than 2-3 cm. At the same time, it is necessary to monitor the amount of water that quickly evaporates in a warm room.

When repotting in the spring, many mature plants can be divided into young seedlings. In this way, aglaonema, ferns, reo, asparagus, violets, bilbergia and many other plants reproduce most easily.

Propagation by leaf, rooting of a part of a leaf, air layering and sowing seeds – each plant has its own way of propagation, but for almost all the optimal time, of course, is spring.

Which houseplants are easy to grow from seeds, read the article 13 houseplants that are easy to grow from seeds at home.

Dear readers! In the spring, the next stage in the life of indoor plants begins and it is important to give them a little attention at this time – this will save you from serious problems in the future. Many flowers at this time come out of dormancy and the change in conditions should occur gradually. Everything is like in nature – every day a little lighter, a little warmer. Watering is also gradually increased. Well, transplanting for potted plants is a necessary and natural procedure.

Do you need a math tutor in elementary school? | AMAkids Academy Articles

In most cases, schoolchildren turn to tutors when they need to prepare for the OGE or the Unified State Examination. At a younger age, neither the students nor their parents usually see the point in additional training, as they believe that school lessons are enough to develop all the necessary skills. But is this really the case, or is it worth considering choosing a math tutor, even if the child is in elementary school?

Mathematics extracurriculars – why study outside of school

Mathematics is one of the most important school subjects, the basics of which should be known to all students. Therefore, it is this discipline that is given so many hours of study throughout the entire period of study at school. Its complexity is due to the fact that each subsequent topic that students need to master follows from the previous one.

For example, a student will not be able to understand what decimal fractions are if he has not previously mastered the principles of such an arithmetic operation as division. Even if you turn to the help of a math tutor in grades 5-6, when they are just passing this topic in the classroom, you will need to start by consolidating the material that was studied in the first years of study.

Difficulties in mastering the subject are connected with this – if you do not pay due attention to each topic, then later this will affect both the student’s progress and the general understanding of mathematics. Ignorance of the material will accumulate like a snowball, and the later the student and his parents begin to act, the more difficult it will be to catch up. Therefore, you need to do extra work even when the children are in primary school.

Mathematics tutor grades 1-4

Extracurricular activities can be approached in many ways, and many parents prefer to take care of their child on their own. They check how he understood the material studied earlier, and explain those topics that he did not manage to understand on his own. However, this approach does not always give a result, and in this case you have to resort to the help of a tutor.

Usually difficulties arise starting from grades 2-3, when the transition from simple tasks to arithmetic to more complex topics is carried out. At this stage, classes with a tutor will help identify gaps in knowledge, consolidate what has already been completed. Also, teacher-led learning will allow you to slightly overtake the school curriculum, preparing the student for topics that are yet to be studied at school.

However, a tutor is not the only and far from the most effective opportunity to develop a child’s skills in a timely manner. How else can you improve his mathematical abilities?

How to fill the gap in knowledge

It is important to understand that the principles of teaching children in grades 1-2 or 3-4 are different from those taught at an older age. In the first years of study, kids are still interested in the game, because it is through it that they can more easily learn both educational and any other material. Therefore, both the format of classes and additional tasks in mathematics should include game elements. So it will be possible to better captivate schoolchildren, instill in them not only an understanding of the subject, but also a desire to study and improve their knowledge.

In order to properly organize gaming training, it must be conducted according to some methodology. But most often, tutors do not use specific programs, but are guided by the school’s curriculum or the needs of each individual student. In other words, individual training with a teacher allows you to improve grades and consolidate subject knowledge, but does not go beyond the school curriculum. For a more extensive development of mathematical and other intellectual abilities, it is better to choose proven courses.

Mathematics courses for elementary school students

The AMAkids Intelligence Development Academy has developed a comprehensive methodology for the development of mathematical abilities Amamatik for elementary school students. Its main principle is game learning, which allows arousing genuine interest in the subject. In the classroom, bright textbooks and various interactive materials are used, and for self-training, a whole range of educational games is offered on the educational platform.

Playing and practicing, children improve not only mathematical skills, but also logic, thinking, imagination, creativity and other abilities. In addition to mathematics, students learn the basics of programming and financial literacy, learn to solve both simple and complex tasks. So, thanks to just one technique, it is possible to achieve the versatile development of the intelligence of babies.
