At the school as a student that has been there since kindergarten feeling as if the quality of the school is declining yes, their academic studies are very progressed since then but, if you look past the great academics which i see many of the students struggling with , there are some things wrong with this school ( not just saying these things cause I am a student and beside to hate school these are actual concerns) like , how the cafeteria lunches are unhealthy and gross liking, i do appreciate the work put in to take the food from the truck and heating it up to serve to hundreds of kids and then cleaning after them but, i have gotten food poisoning from eating that food and that is not okay. there are some good things about the school like events like the pot luck we have or socials these events are appreciated because you get to bond and communicate with your fellow classmates over food and for the socials(dance) , dancing. i fell like if this school were more inspiring and focus less on academics we will exceed former glory.

BSCS is great a school that teaches students to be leaders with compassion and discipline. The leader in me program is a great tool for all involved with the school. There are many dedicated teachers that have been at the school 10+ years.

My children both attend Bonita Springs Charter School and have for several years. The school is amazing! The administrative staff as well as the teachers are supportive, kind and top notch. We have been happy with every teacher that both of our children have had. Our children are learning and thriving. The school has high expectations for all students and that is something that we really like. There are opportunities for team sports in middle school as well as after school enrichment clubs for all kids K-8. Our youngest has participated in after school clubs ranging from Cooking to Legos to Four Square to Yoga. There are so many options!

They do a great job. The expectations and goals are clearly defined for students, and parents. When needed, tutoring is provided after school at no charge. The teachers put a lot of time and effort into the kids, you can see they want to them to do their very best. I have multiple children at BSCS, they each have unique learning styles and personalities. All are rewarded when they shine, and supported should they fall short of their potential. My children were in well respected private schools in New England and honestly, some of the fluff (Legos robotics ) and giant projects (that the parents do anyway) aren’t available here, but the foundation for learning is solid. I’m the most pleased, that my children are friends with great kids from a variety of back grounds and experiences. They see real life, not living in a cloistered bubble. My children are happy and laughing about some part of their day when I pick them up.

My children attend BSCS. We love it. They are so happy at school and learning so much. We have great communication from their teachers and the administration is wonderful. I can’t say enough good things. We moved here two years ago from out of state, and I was worried about education in FL. Our kids are flourishing and having amazing experiences. It’s a great school.

Mt school is very great. In my school we do very fun thing like to memorize math fact we use little play fishies. The other fun thing is when a class meets its goals they get icecream party’s.Also we have these things called bolts and if a teacher sees your class being good they give you one and, when you get a lot you get to have celebrations and prizes like pizza party’s and fish.

We started here in 05 and it was great at first. Kid #2 eventually started and despite being a bit behind developmentally his teacher got him caught up in a matter of weeks. As the years went on it became apparent he had a learning issue, which we had dx’d and was found to be Autism. But before his dx we were rushed and pushed through a 504 plan w/ the school before state testing began. Literally took a week or 2. His dx came in and then he was basically just abandoned in his 4th and 5th grade classes. Bullied a lot as well, but nothing ever done as the teacher never saw anything supposedly. My other children had amazing teachers except when #1 went to 3rd grade. Her teacher called the kids names in Spanish and mocked them, etc. She unfairly graded the kids and at some point a parent managed to get something done and she was fired. Caruso refused to do anything about this teacher at anytime prior. In the end we had some great teachers and some real scumbag one’s. When my kids needed more than Diplomat could give we switched to a school with full time gifted. Just in time too, as a scumbag teacher took over the part time gifted class and it would have never went well for my 4th child in it. Now the school has dropped in their test scores, the principal changed before we left and was mediocre. She seemed like she was biding her time til retirement. Office staff changed too and the 2 that were super nice were gone, replaced with snarky one’s.

The nursing program is like a fifth year in high school. Only worse. Definitely does not resemble a college setting. The first semester teacher thinks that its boot camp.To the point of being downright rude. Might be fine for someone in their teens or early 20’s. For a 30, 40, or 50 something its just a bad experience. Try not to forget that we are adults with kids and lives. Some of us are in our 2nd or 3rd career. Had a whole unit on budgeting money and paying bills. What does that have to do with nursing? Their equipment is so old that improvisation and imagination are the themes of the day. Entirely too much busy work. Cell phones have to be turned off and turned in while the instructors play on theirs the whole day while we are doing our busy work.

After receiving a Master of Science degree from the University of Florida at 1942, she created and led several conservation efforts in the state, including co-founder Alachua. Audubon Society in 1960 and co-founder of Florida’s Environmental Defenders in 1969. Her work with the Florida Environment Defenders continued until her death in 1997 to save the Oklavaha River Valley helped stop the construction of Florida’s Cross Barge Canal, which is now a public preserve and recreation area named after her at 1998 year. She was inducted into the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame in 1996. She was married to a herpetologist. Archie Carr from 1937 until his death in 1987; they had five children.

Early Years

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Carr grew up in southwest Florida where her naturalist parents taught her to identify the state’s native flora and fauna while hiking and riding to school. In 1918, her parents moved the family from Boston to Bonita Springs, Florida and later moved to Fort Myers in 1928, where she attended high school. [1] [2]

Education and early career

Carr graduated from Fort Myers High School at 1932 and enrolled at Florida State University (which at the time was Florida State College for Women). Her research included biology, ecology, botany, ornithology, and bacteriology. In 1936, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from Florida State University. [1]

Denied admission or funding to graduate programs in zoology and ornithology at Cornell University and the University of North Carolina due to her gender . Velaka National Fish Hatchery. At 19In 1937, she took up a position as a laboratory assistant and field collector at the Bass Zoological Laboratory in Englewood, Florida. In 1939, Carr entered graduate school in zoology at the University of Florida. At the time, UF was still officially an all-male institution, but Carr was able to use her husband’s reputation in the biology department to gain admission. [1] [2]

In 1942, she received a master’s degree in zoology from the University of Florida. Her thesis was entitled Behavior, Embryology, and Larval Development of Largemouth Bass in Florida with Notes on Fry Feeding Habits. [3] and was later published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the Zoological Club of New England. [1]

From 1945 to 1949, Carr and her family lived in Honduras, where she explored the rainforest daily with her husband. Archie Carr. Marjorie performed thousands of scientific studies on bird skins and later published her research on the birds of Honduras, including Notes on the Breeding of the Oriental Stump. Lepomis Punctatus Punctatus (Cuvier)” at Florida Academy of Sciences Quarterly in 1946 “San Geronimo Swift in Honduras” in Wilson’s Bulletin in 1951, and “Notes on the Birds of Honduras 1945-1949 with Special Reference to the Yeguare Valley, Francisco Morazan Department” in Ceiba in 1995 [1]

Conservation in Florida

In the late 1950s, Carr began her career in conservation and environmental protection in Florida. Her first efforts were focused on Alachua County and included the conservation and restoration of Lake Alice on the campus of the University of Florida at 1969 and the creation of the Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park in 1970. She began working on the conservation of the Paynes Prairie in 1957 when she joined the Gainesville Garden Club, and served on the club’s board of directors from 1958 to 1962. She also co-founded the Alachua Club. The Audubon Society in 1960 and served on its board of directors from 1960 to 1968 and again from 1972 to 1980. She also served on the board of directors of the Florida Conservation Fund from 1971 to 1990. [1]

In 1969, Carr co-founded the Florida Defenders of the Environment (FDE) with fellow Alachua Audubon member David Anthony and began her work leading efforts to preserve the Oklavah River Valley ecosystem. She helped write one of the nation’s first environmental impact statements in support of a lawsuit filed by the FDE and the Environmental Defense Fund against the US Army Corps of Engineers for the environmental impact of Florida’s Cross Barge Canal on the Oklavah River Ecosystem. As part of this work, Carr also prepared and submitted an application for FDE to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee at 1978 year. [1] [2] [4] Carr continued to work to preserve the Oklavawa River, including the removal of the Rodman Dam and Reservoir, and preserve parks and green spaces in Florida for nearly 30 years until her death in 2005. [5] Florida Conservationists remain an active conservation organization with a primary mission to “restore the Oklavah River.”

Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway

Barge Canal was officially deactivated by Congress at 1990, and all land and structures associated with the project were transferred to the State of Florida for use as a public conservation and recreational area. The Governor of Florida and the Cabinet of Ministers signed a resolution to deauthorize the channel on January 22, 1991. The lands given to the State of Florida became the Cross Florida Greenway State Recreation and Conservation Area. Carr was appointed by the Florida Legislature to the Canal Lands Advisory Committee in 1991 to represent the public and help create the master plan for Greenway. [6] [7]

In 1998, Greenway was officially renamed Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway in Carr’s honor. The Greenway track is 110 miles and spans over 70,000 acres through portions of Citrus, Levy, Marion, and Putnam counties, from Yankeetown in the Gulf of Mexico to Palatka South on the seafront. St. John’s River. It is part of the Florida State Parks System and is operated by the Florida Department of Environmental Conservation, Recreation and Parks Division. [7] [8]

Sarasota – my favorite beach in Florida USA | Sarasota

Sarasota (Sarasota) – a small city with beautiful houses on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in Florida, south of the city of Tampa, with a population of about 60 thousand people. This is one of the most favorite places to live among the American rich, like Naples, Santa Barbara or Delray Beach. In addition to the fact that there are more sunny days here than in Miami, there are many art galleries and a creative atmosphere reigns, like in Sedona. And in Sarasota is Siesta Beach – the best beach in the United States, known for its white quartz sand and the absence of big waves.

    Sarasota

Sarasota is a coastal city on the mainland with adjacent barrier islands (Lido Key, St. Armands Key, Otter Key, Casey Key, Coon Key, Bird Key and part of Siesta Key. ), located between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico in southwestern Florida.

    • The name Sarasota comes from the Spanish term for a place to dance.

    Basic information

The city of Sarasota is well known in the US for its unique combination of pleasant climate, beautiful architecture, wonderful beaches, a wide range of cultural and entertainment activities, good restaurants and shops. It is at the top of most ratings of American cities in terms of quality and convenience of life.

Our recommendation: For official information about the city of Sarasota, see before the trip on the site sarasotagov.com

    What makes Sarasota interesting?

    • Tourists come here to relax on amazingly white sandy beaches away from the hustle and bustle of big cities.
    • And many wealthy American retirees move to Sarasota precisely because of the diversity of cultural life.

Sarasota has a wide variety of performing arts venues including music, dance, theater and circus venues. Among them are opera and ballet, an orchestra, a jazz club, a conservatory and a school of circus art. Movies are also filmed here.

    • Since 1998, Sarasota has hosted an annual film festival.

Interesting fact: At the beginning of the 20th century, the famous Ringling Brothers Circus was based in Sarasota, and many attractions in Sarasota are named after them.

Sarasota also has a marine laboratory and research center ( Mote Marine Laboratory ), an aquarium, a beautiful botanical garden ( Marie Selby Botanical Gardens ), a jungle park ( Sarasota Jungle Gardens ) and Wildlife Sanctuary Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary .

The best place to live is downtown Sarasota, with easy walking paths from all areas. All cultural life is concentrated here, it is pleasant to walk along the streets in the morning and in the evening, and even during the day you can admire the beautiful architecture. Or you can splurge, choose an expensive beach resort on one of the barrier islands and enjoy the sun and the sea.

For example, 12-mile Longboat Key has a few resorts, but mostly residential areas with expensive yacht parking right next to the house with direct access to Sarasota Bay. The quaint area in the center of this island is full of different restaurants, shops and beach bars.

We decided to stay on the very outskirts of the city in a practically new comfortable hotel Hyatt Place , which we liked while traveling through the Florida keys. And they were very satisfied!

    Best time to go

Sarasota has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and warm, dry winters. The rainy season is from June to September, and the dry season is from October to May.

    • During the summer months, showers are quite common in the afternoon.
    • Sometimes it gets cold in the winter when the cold arctic air reaches the south coast of Florida, so a warm jacket can be useful.

Thus, the best time for a holiday in Sarasota is November-December and March-April, when the air temperature is the most comfortable and there is no rain. But at the height of winter it is better to go to the Maldives, where it is warm all year round, and in the summer – to Hawaii or the Seychelles.

Here are good hotels in Sarasot:

      1. Embassy Suits Suits – Domes and the Auro on Lido Key

      2. Lido Beach Resort – a modern hotel on Lido Beach with a pool and family rooms

      3. Hyatt Residence – an expensive beach hotel with a beach club on the first line of Siesta Beach

      4. Carlisle Inn – comfortable hotel away from the beaches, but with the most spacious rooms Lido Beach

With approximately 4 km, Lido Beach is the closest to downtown Sarasota. It is located on the island of Lido Key. And we used to go here on foot, leaving the car at an inexpensive park St Armand’s Parking Garage at 57 N Adams Drive Sarasota for $0. 5/hour.

      Beautiful tree-shaded promenade

      Access to Lido Beach

When we arrived at Lido Beach, we immediately fell in love with it! As soon as we got to the beach itself, the first thing I wanted to do was take off my shoes and walk barefoot on the beautiful sand and splash in the water. And most importantly, there were not so many people. To be honest, we felt like we were in the Maldives. In general, the perfect beach in Florida was found just for us!

Lido Beach itself consists of three beach areas:

      • The northern part of Lido Beach is the most secluded and wild, there are no amenities on it. But we liked it the most. It is interesting to walk barefoot on the soft white sand and shallows, watch the birds and boats passing by. Somewhat secluded, with limited parking and no amenities.
      • The middle of Lido Beach is a popular place for a beach holiday in a relaxed environment, but with amenities – showers, toilets and a communal pool.
      • The beach at the southern end of Lido Key with shady trees and picnic areas is great for family outdoor activities. South Lido Park has a trail for walking and sports.

The best is the wide Siesta Beach – a beach with soft white quartz sand and calm waves. It has been named the best beach of the year in the United States many times due to its facilities, natural beauty and large size. It has everything you need for a beach holiday, including a park and playgrounds for children. On the west coast of Florida, in popularity among tourists, only the beaches of Clearwater can compete with Siesta Beach.

Not to be confused with the famous Venice in Los Angeles, California. There is also the iconic Venice Beach, more associated with cinema and music.

Venice Beach in general seemed to us very good, and the cost of housing, as well as prices in restaurants, is generally lower here.

Our attention was drawn to the Botanical Garden, but we never got there, as we decided to repeat the trip to Lido Beach.

We advise you to visit cafes and shops in the historic district of St. Armand Circle.

      Our review

We visited Sarasota during our trip to Florida. We walked around the city, looked at almost all the beaches, rested from everyday trips. We really liked the city itself for its quiet and calm atmosphere and safe environment. Many beautiful squares with sculptures create high spirits. Very atmospheric place!

It was a pleasure to walk the beautiful streets through historic downtown Sarasota to our favorite Lido Key beach, and it was also interesting to observe the leisurely life of local residents – mostly the richest and most successful retirees who have realized their American dream.

We hope to visit Florida again someday and then we will definitely visit Sarasota!
