Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, USA (WFBMC) is a large medical center located in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Until recently it was called Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

After the rebranding in 2011, the word “university” was removed from the name of the center, but the old name has been preserved in the literature and on many web pages. nine0005

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center was named one of the top US hospitals in 2013 for 12 adults and 3 pediatric specialties.

This center demonstrates high quality and safety of medical services, very low medical errors and high patient satisfaction rates – higher than the state and national averages.

More than a hundred doctors of the center in 2012 were included in the list of Top Doctors according to U.S. News and World Report.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has 853 beds and had about 39 hospitalizations last yearthousands of patients. During the year, 34,000 operations were performed here, and the emergency department received more than 100,000 people.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is a teaching hospital. The center is accredited by the US Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facility (CARF).

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is the largest employer in the county. Here, in 170 buildings scattered on more than 350 acres, 13,000 employees work.

The whole center consists of three main divisions:

History of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center

Wake Forest School of Medicine was founded as a two-year medical school on the campus of Wake Forest College in 1902 year. In 1923, the borough of Winston-Salem established an 88-bed community hospital independently of the WFMC.

With the help of the president of the local tobacco company, who donated 750 thousand dollars, the medical school was moved to Winston-Salem, and 4 years of training were organized on its basis. In 1941, the medical school, named after its sponsor, R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company president Bowman Gray, was merged with the North Carolina Baptist Hospital (NC Baptist Hospital). nine0005

In 1986, a ‘hospital within a hospital’, the 160-bed Brenner Children’s Hospital, was opened here.

In 1997, this large complex received its well-known name, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. In 2011, after reforms and rebranding, the word “university” was removed from the name.

In 2013, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Cancer Center was ranked #1 in the state of North Carolina and #12 in the United States.
