We love TLC for kids, we started with your babysitting service many years ago, then as my children grew and could stay home alone, we switched to using your pet sitters when we go out of town and now we have a trusted organization to set us up with party helpers!

Mary Ann D. was awesome. She really took the time to plan out fun activities for the day, even though my son had his own plans and didn’t really want to play any of her games! She was a sport about changing direction and instead doing what he wanted. He had a great day.

Meet Our Office Team – TLC Family Care

The Owners

Stephanie Graff (St. Louis) and Sharon Graff (Miami), both mothers of two and former nanny employers, have dedicated their 35+ year careers to helping families secure safe reliable care for their loved ones. As working mothers, they both fully understand the emotional stress and physical time commitment involved in managing busy families. They have built TLC with a serious commitment to the safety, health, and development of children, support and education of the nannies and sitters, and easy access for busy parents.

Stephanie has been running/managing the St. Louis office since she graduated from Emory University in 1989. Since then, Stephanie has dedicated her time to managing a superior staff of professionals who recruit interview, screen, train, and match nannies and families. With a commitment to unparalleled customer service, she is constantly working with our programmers on upgrades that make our client experience easy and painless. As a working mother herself, she is committed to making life easier for working mothers by maintaining the best staff of nannies and babysitters who are ready when parents need them.

Sharon has been at the helm of TLC since she founded the agency in 1985. She has been a pioneer in the nanny industry and served on the Board of Directors for The International Nanny Association for 16 years, establishing the first standards for nanny agencies and employment of nannies in the U. S. Sharon attended Washington University and Hampshire College where she studied communications and women’s studies. Her thesis on women in leadership in the 1980s led her to develop one of the first on-call networks of nannies in North America. Today she serves as a consultant for agencies and continues to work to improve and grow TLC with her sister, Stephanie, and her husband, Gregg. After raising two wonderful children with the help of great nannies, Sharon has put her focus on working with corporations to support their employees with backup care. Sharon lives in Miami FL and enjoys, tennis, water sports, hiking, skiing, and playing Mahjong.

Our Team

Our team is comprised of dedicated professionals who have intimate knowledge of the needs of parents and extensive experience matching families with caregivers. We make every effort to understand the unique needs of the family and of the applicants.

We pride ourselves on the longevity of our team. Most of the Office staff members have been working with TLC for over 15 years. That means you get the advantage of our experience! We offer a distinct advantage that sets us apart from other agencies and care websites. We are a group of professional people, not a website, working with you and for you to find the right fit!

While in Dallas she worked at a nanny agency and fell in love working “behind the scenes” of finding nannies.  She knew then it was her calling to remain involved and work in the business of identifying and hiring high-quality caregivers. Brandy and her family recently moved back to St. Louis, and as her boys are older now, she was ready to get back into her career development. She now works as TLC’s recruiting and hiring Manager. She enjoys hiking, boating, working out, and running around with her 2 very active boys.

She then went on to service Providers and Patients for a Gastroenterology group as the front office lead for two very busy practices. When the opportunity presented itself to get back into being a part of caregivers’ livelihoods, it was an easy transition. She takes pride in serving caregivers and clients and helping people in general.

During her free time, Berlinda enjoys spending time with her family and friends, crafting, and traveling. Family is very important to her, and she cherishes every moment.

Chrissy Wheelington, Recruiting & Hiring Specialist

Chrissy has worked in the Home Health Care field for the past 20 years. Her career started out as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant working in the field with older adults. After 10 years of caregiving, she was recognized for her hard work and ability to connect with both families and employees and was promoted to management where she has worked for the past 10 years.

Chrissy is married and is a proud mother of 2 girls ages 5 and 21. Chrissy’s 21-year-old lives in Arizona and is in the US Air Force.

As a Recruiting and Hiring Specialist for TLC, Chrissy is responsible for recruiting and hiring new caregivers for both temporary and permanent nanny placements. This includes interviewing, background checks, and orientation for all permanent nannies that are placed.

Chrissy also coordinates Newborn Care Services for families seeking assistance with infant care. In this position, she works closely with families to go over their needs and find the right care provider. Once a care plan is in place, she selects an appropriate Newborn Care Specialist, Post Partum Doula, night nanny, or baby nurse to interview with the family. Chrissy works with the parents and the caregivers to set up a schedule. Chrissy enjoys the rewarding work of connecting expectant moms with knowledgeable infant care specialists.  In Chrissy’s free time she enjoys watching sports, spending time with her family, and traveling.

Kathy Barnhart, Staffing Manager

Kathy makes it her practice to develop a personal relationship with all of her caregivers so that she knows just the right person for each family.

As a working mother herself, she knows the importance of having quality caregivers that can be trusted with your loved ones. She is always working to go the extra mile to choose the right caregiver for each and every family. Kathy is also a caregiver herself and spends her weekends assisting her disabled sister.

Foreign TV channels

On August 1, the TLC HD channel began broadcasting on the Tricolor TV network – an entertainment channel about the life of modern women in all its versatility – about the difficulties that one has to face and about the victories that one manages to win in solving everyday problems.

All the stories and characters of the TLC TV programs are absolutely real

The family of Discovery TV channels is a variety of channels where every viewer will definitely find something of their own. And, of course, the female audience could not be ignored – channel TLC is one of the three flagships that enjoys well-deserved love. I must say that this channel began broadcasting in Russia relatively recently, in 2011, but in a short time, he was able to win the hearts of millions of the fair sex . It would seem that there are enough women’s programs, films and channels on the air, so standing out against this background and winning an audience is not an easy task, but it is no coincidence that Discovery Communications is the No. 1 pay TV media company in the world and knows how to attract viewers. Moreover, it was possible to rely on foreign experience – for example, in the USA TLC is in the top 10 women’s channels.

TLC has relied on programs that show traditionally female topics from a new point of view, in an unusual way, tell intriguing, non-standard, and sometimes shocking stories. The channel’s key genres are “Family and Relationships”, “Food”, “Lifestyle”, “Medicine”, “Inspirational Stories”, “Another Life”. TLC presents entertainment with meaning, while all the stories and characters of the channel are absolutely real. All of them appear on the channel directly from everyday life, and this is “Life worth seeing” – this is exactly what the channel’s slogan sounds like.

TLC has made a bet on programs that show traditionally female topics from a new point of view

No moralizing or admonitions – the channel aims to inspire, entertain and give self-confidence and a positive attitude. The heroes of many programs found themselves in an extremely difficult life situation, but at the same time they do not lose their presence of mind and thereby share optimism with the audience. Take at least the program “Salon” Last Chance “. She introduces us to women who, in the pursuit of beauty, became victims of inept surgeons, unprofessional hairdressers and cosmetologists. The consequences of unsuccessful operations look catastrophic, and all hope is for the program team – experts who redo the redone, giving one last chance to gain an attractive appearance.

Another of the sore topics is a beautiful figure. Excess weight creates a lot of problems, but, dropping it, we find new difficulties – albeit not serious, and pleasant, but still quite real. After all, you need to update your entire wardrobe! A stylist comes to the aid of the already thinner heroines, who helps to pick up things that fit perfectly on a slim figure. This and much more – in the program “New body – new style.”

“A life worth seeing” is exactly what the channel’s slogan sounds like.

Especially for those who are preparing for the wedding, the program “Two Dresses for the Bride” was filmed. Really, what’s the point of getting married? Buying a new designer wedding dress or getting a retro outfit remade from your grandmother’s wardrobe? The heroines of the show, with the help of stylists and fashion designers, will have to make their difficult choice. In addition, you will learn about the latest wedding fashion trends.

Undoubtedly, it is worth watching at least one episode of the Odd Love program. As you know, there are no those who are not worth love, just as there are no those who do not want to find a harmonious and mutual serious relationship. True, the beauty standards in the world are quite harsh, and therefore slender long-legged beauties have no end of fans, but those who do not meet generally accepted standards … Stop suffering alone! You don’t have to be a model to find your love, and the heroines of the program will prove it. Too tall and too short, full and too thin – everyone deserves happiness and everyone will definitely find it.

A completely different, but no less relevant topic for women is devoted to the show “Tricks of the shopping street”. We go to buy bread, and we return home with huge bags of unnecessary products; we go in to buy socks, and we leave the store with several bags of things; we want to drink a cup of coffee or eat a bowl of soup in a cafe, but instead we order a huge business lunch at a discount. It would seem that this is just our weakness and suggestibility, but in reality it is the result of the most difficult work of marketers, merchandisers, and advertisers. How does it work and how not to fall for a tempting hook? Where do the most necessary and popular goods really lie and what is the catch of special promotions and offers? You can learn about this and much more from the latest issues.

In short, the TLC channel entertains viewers with bold, bright and unexpected content. It’s simply impossible to stop watching. Real scenes from real life capture and charge with positive emotions, and the characters and their vivid stories inspire, especially since now all this can be seen in HD format.

MAIN MENU – QUICK GUIDE

Unpacking

Your brooder/ICU comes in a protective box. Remove all tape, strapping and packaging from the brooder/ICU and parts. Save the carton and packing materials so that you can repackage the device.

Your brooder/ICU comes as standard with:
Also make sure that the power supply meets the requirements of the machine (marked on the technical plate next to the mains socket).

Location and Assembly
  1. Your brooder/NIU will perform best in a room with no extreme temperature changes and good ventilation, especially if multiple incubators/brooders are running at the same time. Make sure the room temperature does not drop on a cold night. It is ideal to thermostat a room at 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C). Never let the room temperature drop below 59°F (15°C) and keep the brooder/ICU out of direct sunlight.
  2. Assemble the cabinet using the provided tools and hardware. Follow the diagrams. Do not overtighten the fasteners.
  3. The door is hinged on the left, but can be turned over if needed for better access. Attach the top hinge socket to the cabinet with M5 x 16mm countersunk screws, M5 flat washers and M5 dome nuts.
  4. Place the door on the bottom hinge and close the latch. Lower the top cabinet down onto the other pieces.
  5. Insert M4 x 30 mm cap screws, star washers and nuts into each set of holes along the edge of the cabinet. Tighten enough to prevent them from rotating. This creates an airtight seal around the cabinet.
  6. When caring for small animals with long claws, such as hedgehogs, the door edge can be set as shown in the figure so that the claws cannot pass through any gap in the door:
Loosen the lower hinge/housing fasteners half a turn to allow the hinge to move freely.

Slide the door as far as it will go in the direction of the door latch. Tighten the fasteners while holding the door.

Loosen the top hinge/cabinet fixing. Move it so that the door is level in the frame and opens/closes freely. Tighten fasteners.

Note the length of any V-shaped gap that the claw can pass through. Cut a strip of the edge of the door to fill the entire length of the gap.

Open the door wide and press the edge of the door against the door. Close the door and make sure the bar is not pushing the door out. Trim the length of the edge strip if necessary.

  7. Place the white evaporator block in the fresh water tray. Open the door and lift the tray into place, it is inserted up and across into two slots on the heater body. The pad may need to be softened with a little water to flatten it while the baking sheet is in place. The tray is positioned in such a way as to prevent it from being accidentally removed by the animals.
  8. Your brooder/RCU comes with an air filter installed at the air inlet (see fig. 1) and at each end of the heater housing (see fig. 9 above). See the Service section for details on filter replacement.
  9. Place the brooder/ICU on a scratch and moisture resistant surface. The height of the table top is perfect.
  10. Find a suitable water container (1 to 2 liters). Place next to the brooder/ICU.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Do not place the water container on top of the brooder/ICU or higher than the brooder/ICU.
This is to prevent water seepage and flooding of the brooder/ICU. The water container is best placed next to the brooder/resuscitator on the same surface.
The TLC Zoologica Series II brooders/intensive care units use a peristaltic dosing pump to automatically control the relative humidity in the animal chamber. The pumped water is fed into the extended paper evaporation unit, where warm air is forced over a large area to efficiently evaporate all the water (no water is collected under normal conditions). 9The 0008 Brooder/ICU comes with a pre-assembled water pump tube. Cut off a piece of silicone tubing with a diameter of 3 mm from the water tank to the water pump. Connect the end of this tube to the elbow on the water pump tube.
Install the pump tube to the water pump in three steps. For clarity, only the pump tube is shown here.
Insert the elbow (with tube for the water tank) into the left slot “A”.

Wrap the pump tube counterclockwise around the pump shaft.

Insert the elbow (with short tube and rigid tube) into the right slot “B”.

Push the rigid water pipe down through the hole in the top of the cabinet into the center of the evaporator block grid in the water tray so that it holds the water pipe in position:

  11. The pump comes with a thick silicone tube that fits over the pump spindle. This length wears out and requires periodic replacement. It can also flatten out if left unused for some time, because the inner walls of the pipe will stick to each other around the spire and block the passage of water. Or replace this tubing length with a new length of 3.9inches (100 mm), or remove it and roll it between your thumb and forefinger to “peel it off”.
Please note: A short (8 mm / 1/3 in.) piece of thin silicone tubing must be placed on the inner ends of the hose elbows first, with the thicker silicone tubing on top:
  12. Connect the mains cable to an outlet. Make sure the connector is fully inserted into the socket.
  13. The fan will start and the display will show the current temperature and humidity in the cabinet, as well as a “P” symbol to indicate that the power has been interrupted.
  14. Allow the brooder/ITC to run for at least one hour before introducing animals to stabilize the temperature.
Digital Control System

The TLC Zoologica Series II control system uses highly accurate, individually calibrated temperature and humidity sensors. Be careful with inexpensive analog or digital thermometers and hygrometers when comparing them to the brooder/resuscitation display.

  1. NORMAL OPERATION – constantly displays temperature and relative humidity.
An asterisk “*” next to the temperature reading indicates that the heater is powered on. When warming up, the asterisk will be on constantly, after warming up, the asterisk will flash slowly as the heater pulses to maintain the correct temperature.
An asterisk “*” next to the humidity reading indicates when the pump is active (see section 7). The pump will not turn on until the brooder/RCU is at operating temperature and the set humidity level is greater than the measured humidity level in the brooder/RCU.
  2. POWER LOSS DISPLAY – If power has been interrupted due to a power outage (or when first turned on), a flashing “P” will be displayed in the corner of the display. Press the – or + button for 2 or more seconds to clear the indicator. If the reason for the loss of power is not known, check that the power cable is securely connected.
  3. HIGH INCUBATION TEMPERATURE. ALARM ALARM DISPLAY – If the measured temperature rises more than the value on the HIGH ALARM screen, an alarm will sound immediately and “H” will be displayed. Press OK to turn off the alarm for 30 minutes.
If the high temperature problem resolves itself, an “H” will remain on the display to show that this has happened.
Press OK to clear the indicator. Make sure the brooder/RCU is not (and has not been) in direct sunlight or too close to a heat source such as a room heater.
  4. LOW INCUBATION TEMPERATURE ALARM DISPLAY – If the measured temperature drops more than the value shown on the LOW ALARM screen, “L” will be displayed and an alarm will sound after 1 hour. Press OK to turn off the alarm for 30 minutes.
If the low temperature problem resolves itself, the letter “L” remains on the display, indicating that this has happened.
Press OK to clear the indicator. Make sure the brooder/ICU is not (and has not been) in a cold draft or that the room temperature has dropped significantly.
  5. HIGH ROOM TEMPERATURE ALARM DISPLAY – If the calculated room temperature remains too high for stable temperature control for more than 1 hour, a “+RM” warning is displayed and an alarm sounds.
Press OK to turn off the alarm for 30 minutes.
If the high temperature problem resolves itself, the display remains “+RM” to indicate that this has happened. Click OK to clear the indicator.
Make sure the brooder/RCU is not (and has not been) in direct sunlight or too close to a heat source such as a room heater. The animals themselves create significant metabolic heat and can contribute to this if the room temperature is high.
  6. LOW ROOM ALARM DISPLAY – If the calculated room temperature remains too low for stable temperature control for more than 1 hour, “-RM” warning is displayed and an alarm sounds.
Press OK to disable the alarm for 30 minutes.
If the low temperature problem resolves itself, “-RM” remains on the display, indicating that this has occurred. Click OK to clear the indicator.
Check that the brooder/ICU is not (and has not been) in a cold draft and that the room temperature has not dropped significantly.
  7. CHANGING SETTINGS – The main menu allows you to change and save various settings. All changes are saved in the event of a power outage.
To access the main menu, press the + and – buttons simultaneously to unlock the display. For details on menu settings, see the manual.
Temperature

A stable and correct temperature is essential for good results. Adjust with care.

WARNING:- CIRCULATION FAN AND METABOLIC HEAT FROM PATIENTS PROVIDE HEAT TO BROODER/ICU. A BROODER/IT MAY NOT PERFORM PROPERLY IF THE ROOM TEMPERATURE IS LESS THAN 10°F (3°C) BELOW THE REQUIRED INSIDE TEMPERATURE.

DO NOT LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN AS THIS WILL CREATE A SIGNIFICANT TEMPERATURE DISTURBANCE IN THE BROODER/ICU AND TAKE TIME TO STABILIZE.

  1. Note: Your brooder/ICU may not be set to the correct temperature at the factory and the following procedure must be performed before introducing animals.
  2. Press the – and + buttons at the same time to unlock the main menu. Press OK to select the temperature screen and adjust it if necessary using the + and – buttons. Press OK to return to the main menu and then scroll down to Save. Click OK to save your changes.
  3. As the brooder/ICU warms up and approaches the control setting, the heater marked with an asterisk “*” will turn off and start flashing. As the temperature drops, the asterisk may continue to flash as the brooder/ITC gradually cools – this is normal.
  4. Refer to the digital temperature display to check the temperature. The display shows the air temperature in 0.1° increments.
  5. The display can be switched to show all temperature settings in degrees Fahrenheit. Press the – and + buttons at the same time to unlock the main menu. Scroll to the C/F option and press OK to select the C/F display screen. Press the + button to select °F or the – button to select °C. Press OK to return to the main menu and then scroll down to Save. Click OK to save your changes.
  6. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE TEMPERATURE GROWING OF FRIDAYS. Typically, a newly hatched chick needs a brooding/ICU temperature slightly below incubation temperature, about 95-97°F (35-36°C), and the temperature can be gradually lowered by about 1°F (0.5°C). C) per day until full feathering or until it no longer needs additional heat. In warm environmental conditions, this will happen sooner than in cold climates. When the brooding temperature is just above room temperature, the star heater indicator may turn off (indicating no heating). This indicates that the birds are ready to be moved to the cage. If the room temperature then drops (e.g. at night), the birds can be warmed up by moving them to the TLC/ICU brooder.
  7. Where continuous throughput of birds of various tags is required During development, several TLC brooding units can be set to different temperatures and as birds grow they move to cooler units.
  8. Recommended staged temperature settings for most parrots and falcons:
    Days 1-5 Days 6-10 Days 11-15 Days 16-25
    97°F (36°C) 91°F (33°C) 85°F ( 29. 5°C) 80°F (27°C)
These temperatures have been found to promote optimal health and growth in newly hatched chicks and are slightly warmer than in nests. If the birds are removed from the nest after more than a few days, it is usually necessary to set the temperature a few degrees lower to prevent heat stress. The above recommendations are for guidance only, always observe the behavior of the chick (see below) to check the setting.
Too high a temperature can cause heat stress, dehydration, deformities or bleeding under the skin.
Low temperatures may reduce appetite and stunt growth. Birdwatching is the best reference for its comfort. Chicks try to huddle together if they are cold, and move in search of parental warmth. The chicks are too warm to separate and breathe heavily. Either way, they will complain out loud. Cozy birds will lie and sleep quietly with their wings folded loosely at their sides, usually touching each other.
  9. Developing chicks are fairly tolerant of short-term temperature changes, but care must be taken with regard to chilling that occurs during feeding or inspection. Keep the room warm, keep the bird in a cloth to keep cold hands from catching a cold, and use heated feeding utensils.
Humidity and ventilation

Elevated air temperatures in TLC/ICU brooders lower relative humidity (RH) levels and can cause dehydration. The water tank is adapted to counteract this effect. Relative humidity of 45 to 55% RH is sufficient for incubation. Avoid very high levels as condensation may form on colder surfaces. The maximum achievable humidity depends on room conditions with a typical limit of about 65 to 70% RH.

  1. TLC Zoologica Series II brooders/intensive care units use a peristaltic dosing pump to automatically control the relative humidity of the animal chamber. The pumped water is fed into the extended paper evaporation unit, where warm air is forced over a large area to efficiently evaporate all the water (no water is collected under normal conditions).
  2. To set the humidity level, press the – and + buttons simultaneously to unlock the main menu. Press the + button to move to the RH% option. Press OK to select RH% and adjust if necessary using the – and + buttons. Press OK to return to the main menu and then scroll down to SAVE. Click OK to save your changes.
  3. If the humidity level in the brooder/ER is below the set humidity level, the pump will start to rotate (sometimes in short pulses) and gradually draw water from the reservoir and pump it to the evaporation unit in the brooder/ER. It may take several hours to prime and stabilize, after which the pump will run intermittently as humidity levels are controlled.
The pump will not operate if the temperature in the brooder/ICU is well below the set temperature.
This is to prevent the system from adding too much water when the door is opened.
The control system can be set to regulate relative humidity from 20 to 80%. In practice, the minimum and maximum
levels of humidity achievable in a brooding unit/NICU depend on several factors, including the environment.
Incubation room conditions. You may need to wait 24 hours for the humidity to fully stabilize after
    making changes.
If the humidity is not high enough, make sure the water reaches the brooder/ICU while the pump is running. If not, check the entire length of the tubing for kinks and make sure the tubing around the pump is not flattened. If so, try gently pulling on it to open it. If this does not help, replace the pump tube.
The silicone tube is very flexible but can be damaged by sharp fingernails. A tiny perforation on the suction side of the pump will allow air to pass through and prevent the pump from drawing water.
The tubing around the pump needs to be changed periodically, usually every three months, but this depends on usage. See page 9 for details.
  4. Evaporative block can become a breeding ground for bacteria. It is recommended to change the unit every 2 months of use.
  5. Brooder/CRC door has an adjustable vent that can be opened or closed for better humidity control (close vent to increase) and fresh air flow. The vent can be completely closed as fixed ventilation is also provided.
  6. To maintain maximum airflow, the airflow filters should be checked once a week for dust or lint and cleaned if necessary.
Fan Speed Control

TLC Zoologica Series II brooders/intensive care units can be controlled at four different levels of air circulation fan speed. The higher fan speed provides the most accurate air temperature control around the base of the brooder/ICU. The lower fan speed provides softer airflow around the animals and lower noise levels.
The operator can select the speed according to his priorities.

  1. Press the – and + buttons at the same time to unlock the main menu. Press + once to display the fan speed option, and then press OK to select it. Adjust with the + and – buttons if necessary. Press OK to return to the main menu and then scroll down to Save. Click OK to save your changes.
  2. The highest fan speed provides the most accurate correlation between the displayed temperature and the average air temperature at the bottom of the barn.
  3. The lowest fan speed provides the lowest noise and air speed, but the air temperature downstairs in the animal chamber may be slightly lower than displayed, especially in a cold environment.
Introducing Young Birds

Once the correct temperature and humidity have been established, the TLC/ITS brooder is ready for use.

  1. For newly hatched chicks, use small plastic containers such as ice cream or butter/spread containers lined with paper towels. Young birds of the same age and size can be housed together and they will enjoy warmth and comfort. If the size difference is too great, the smaller animal risks being crushed or strangled.
  2. For larger chicks and adults, line the base of the TLC/ICU brooder with paper towel and place the bird directly on it. The material of the brooder/ICU body is smooth and easy to clean.
  3. Change the paper towel at every feeding or at least four times a day.
  4. Follow the recommended feeding schedules for your species, ensuring the highest standards of hygiene at all times.
Small animal care
  1. Your TLC has been specially designed for the care of injured or sick small animals. Animals should always be cared for following the instructions and advice of your veterinarian.
  2. First steps Treating a hypothermic animal (hypothermia) is to prevent further heat loss by wrapping the victim in insulating materials such as blankets, bubble wrap, or silver foil. Before adding young birds or small animals, it is recommended to preheat the TLC and allow the temperature to stabilize. If you are aware of an approaching animal patient, TLC can be turned on so that it is ready for immediate use when the patient arrives.
  3. Once the TLC has reached the correct temperature, the animal can be transferred. At this time, the amount of litter should be reduced.tage to ensure warming from the environment in the TLC. All animals will benefit from bedding at the bottom of the cabinet, such as an absorbent pad, to help reduce soiling. Small animals such as foxes or baby badgers will benefit from having a soft toy for company, while lone ducklings or pheasant chicks can be provided with a safety mirror. Wild animals can get very nervous when handled by humans. Place the TLC where there is minimal interference.
  4. It is beneficial for all small mammals and birds to be kept at ambient temperatures within their “thermoneutral range”. This is the temperature range at which the animal does not expend energy to maintain its body temperature. Thermoneutral temperatures for typical adult mammals and birds are shown in Table 1. For birds, the thermoneutral range varies with size, with smaller birds requiring higher temperatures. Reptiles and amphibians should be kept within an “Activity Temperature Range” (ATR) where they can control their body temperature. ATR values for typical reptiles and amphibians are also shown in Table 1.
  5. If the animal is thirsty, oral rehydration fluid can be given in a shallow bowl. If the animal is unwilling or unable to drink, the fluid must be given by other means. In birds, rehydration fluid is most easily provided through the crop tube, provided the bird can raise its head and swallow. In mammals, intravenous or intraosseous fluids are usually required to rehydrate patients. They should only be administered by a veterinarian or veterinary nurse.
  6. Feed the bad animal only when it is warm and always start with liquids only. Do not place wet solid food in the intensive care unit as it will spoil quickly due to the warm environment.
  7. Dependent animals (those naturally in the nest) should be kept in a TLC regimen set at 82.5-89.5°F (28-32°C) until they are old enough to support their own body temperature when heat can be reduced. declining to the thermoneutral range for this species. Carefully observe their behavior for signs of shortness of breath or shivering to determine the optimal temperature for them at this time.tage. For very young pups, it may be necessary to create a synthetic fabric “nest” in TLC lined with paper towel.
  8. As with adults, pups are often dehydrated upon arrival and should be fed an oral electrolyte solution. They also often have low blood glucose levels (hypoglycemia) and should be fed appropriately shortly after the initial administration of electrolytes. If the animal is unable to raise its head and/or swallow, it will need to be given fluids and glucose by injection – this should be under the guidance of a veterinarian.
Interior lighting
  1. The TLC Zoologica Series II Brooders/Intensive Care Units are equipped with soft indoor LED lighting for animal and bird inspection at night. LED lamps are energy efficient, do not affect temperature and usually do not require replacement. Amber LEDs do not emit the UV light often associated with “white” LEDs.
  2. LED indicators are located to the left of the fan diffuser on the TLC-40 size model and on both sides of the fan diffuser on the larger TLC-50 model.
  3. The backlight can be turned on and off by pressing the OK button. This is a switching action

IMPORTANT:
DISCONNECT FROM THE MAINS WHEN CLEANING. RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK! MAKE SURE ALL ELECTRICAL PARTS ARE DRY.

  1. Remove all debris from the floor after each brood in the TLC/ICU brooding unit. Wipe all interior surfaces with a soft cloth moistened with a diluted, water-based disinfectant solution. Filters should be inspected weekly and cleaned if necessary. Remove all three filters and wash gently by hand in warm water, then allow to dry before use. Filters need to be replaced every six months. Immerse and soak all nests in disinfectant solution. The outside of the TLC/ICU brooder can be cleaned with a cloth.
  2. Avoid alcohol-based solutions and ensure that all disinfectants are thoroughly rinsed off plastic parts with clean water. Disinfectant solutions can cause severe cracking of plastic if not rinsed properly.
  3. Always clean the TLC/ICU brooder before storing and make sure the unit is completely dry inside and out, otherwise components may be damaged.
  4. For deeper cleaning, the cabinet base and door can be removed by releasing the fasteners. See section 4 for assembly instructions. The cabinet base and door can be damp cleaned using a mild detergent and then disinfected with a dilute water-based disinfectant solution.
  5. Replacement filters and evaporator blocks are available from Brinsea Products at the address at the end of this document or from your Brinsea agent.
Service and Calibration
  1. Although not considered necessary for routine cleaning, the heater housing can be safely removed to clean dust from the heater and fan. Disconnect the power cord. Remove the water tray. Loosen the 4 cap screws (on the top of the white plastic case, not on the gray control box) as shown, and then unscrew each of them while supporting the metal case inside. The metal housing will fall if not supported and may damage the brooder/ICU.
  2. Carefully place the brooder/ICU on top and then lift the metal body of the heater. The fan assembly can then be pivoted towards the front of the machine so that dust can be brushed off the heating element and fan blades with a soft brush. DO NOT USE LIQUIDS. DO NOT TOUCH THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR.
  3. After the heater area is dust free, the fan assembly must be repositioned, making sure the 4 pins on the clear molding fit into the corresponding holes in the metal base plate.
  4. MAKE SURE THE FAN/LED WIRES DO NOT CONTACT THE HEATING ELEMENT
  5. Replace the metal cover so that the water tray slots are at the correct end. While holding the cover in place, install the 4 cap screws. Don’t overtighten.
  6. In the event of a failure, first check that the power supply is working and that the mains cable plug is fully inserted into the socket on the back of the control unit housing. Check the fuse at the mains input on the rear side of the control unit housing. If necessary, replace with a fuse of the same type and rating (20mm, 2A, slow blow, 250V).
  7. If the problem persists, contact your distributor or Brinsea Product Service.
  8. Digital temperature and humidity display is individually calibrated during production, but can be recalibrated if required. In the unlikely event that the accuracy of the temperature or humidity display is in doubt, ensure that the air filters are clean and the heater housing is free of debris by following the instructions above. Contact your distributor or Brinsea directly at [email protected] for more information and advice.
    Power consumption 85 W typical, 150 W max. 100 W typical, 150 W max. Power Supply 115V 60Hz or 230V 50Hz optional

don’t go crazy. The experience of a young family

In 2015, a couple from the United States gave birth to five girls, which was a great event in the history of world medicine, because before five same-sex twins were born only twice. For the family, this is a great happiness and a real test: risky childbirth, caring for five babies at once, the issue of money and housing – all this completely changed their life.

Natalia Rodikova, editor-in-chief of the magazine “New Center”

Do not self-medicate! In our articles, we collect the latest scientific data and the opinions of authoritative health experts. But remember: only a doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment.

    A family of five plus

In the modern world, not everyone dares even for one child, because it is difficult to raise him. These are forces, time, nerves, a lot of worries, anxieties and sleepless nights. Is it necessary to multiply all the difficulties by five at the birth of five children? Adam and Daniella told their story in the new season of Five Plus, which airs on TLC.

    How Adam met Danielle

Adam and Daniella met at work – they were both employees of a large retail chain in Louisiana. “I like to tell everyone that our carts collided in aisle number 5,” says Daniella. The girl saw in herself a special parental gift, and, fortunately for her, Adam also dreamed of children, so the young people got married very soon.

However, Busby had no idea how difficult the path to this dream would be. The couple could not conceive a child for a long time, Adam and Danielle had to turn to doctors, but even after that they did not become parents immediately – their long-awaited first daughter Blake was born only two years later.

Young parents were happy, and after a few years they began to think about a second child. This time, the pregnancy came quickly, although, like the first time, an in vitro insemination procedure was required. Daniella was confused by the results of blood tests: the “pregnancy hormone” hCG was incredibly high. At the next ultrasound, the reason became clear: the doctor was surprised to show future parents on the screen five babies! Then it turned out that all five were girls. The doctors offered Daniella and Adam to get rid of some of the embryos, but they decided to keep them all. Of the five girls, two were identical twins – Parker Kate and Hazel Grace, the remaining three babies developed from different eggs – Olivia Marie, Rilly Paige and Ava Lane.

    Five times harder

On April 8, 2015, Danielle underwent a caesarean section at 28 weeks: this was the moment the doctors considered the safest. Each of the babies weighed about a kilogram and needed nursing. At first, parents and relatives could only touch newborns through the windows of the incubator. The girls were so small they could fit in the palm of their hand. Only 4 months after the birth, the couple was able to take all the children home from the Texas hospital.

At home, real madness began for parents – bathing, feeding, changing diapers and motion sickness non-stop. I had to change at least 40 diapers a day, and feed almost continuously, including at night. The couple was helped by Daniella’s mother Michelle and other relatives, but it was still very difficult.

Lack of sleep sometimes made adults nervous, and going to the store seemed like a reward and a long-awaited vacation, not a boring duty. Daniella and Adam are accustomed to resolving controversial situations with household chores using the rock-paper-scissors game. “Some people ask me how I manage. The only thing I can answer is: I just take it and do it. Honestly, every morning I pray to get strength and energy,” says Daniella. “Every day I remind myself when I look at the little ones that God has given us this precious miracle and that I can handle it. Even if it’s hard.”

    Life goes on

The younger Busby sisters will be 2 years old in April, the eldest daughter will soon be 6 years old, and Adam and Danielle are now 34 and 33 years old. The life of the Busby family is still not easy: from morning until evening, Daniella begins the work of a mother and hostess non-stop.

First, she accompanies her eldest daughter to the bus, and then she takes care of her younger children all day. Daniella sometimes dreams of lying on a beach in Mexico, holding a glass of cocktail in her hands and just reading a book.
