Absolutely do not trust this business with you children. The facility is filthy, the toys are old, ragged, and outdated. The staff is beyond unprofessional contrary to what linda, the owner will persuade you to believe by telling you “they have degrees, background checks, and extensive training” Lies. They are uneducated and in no way able to appropriately care for children. I dropped off my child early in the morning where the morning teacher told my child one morning at 6:15am “NO you’re not laying down. We talked about this. You just get up as soon as your mom leaves!” and then we were done. The play ground is pathetic, consisting of no true mulch, just rocks and dirt/mud. A plastic 1990’s little tikes climber and two swings. That’s it. They also require mandatory paid staff holidays.. from your pocket. So, say your child only goes Monday the week of thanksgiving, you get to pay an extra day. Then my child’s teacher said they never get paid for holidays. So you get to pay for the owners holiday. Austin at the desk is the only thing holding that hell hole together. The facility also has no separate class rooms after 1 year old so the noise is incredible and its literally just like a huge open free for all. I wish there was a warning before I enrolled my child. Completely unacceptable.

BE AWARE OF THE OWNER!! This facility has some great teachers. Those teachers will tell you how awful the owner is. She is one way in front of parents, especially when parents are handing her a check, but a different person when parents are away. She is hateful, mean and inappropriate. I once saw her lift a child in the three year old room by the lower part of their arm and carry them that way over to where she placed them in time out. PARENTS BEWARE!

My son is 8 months old and has been enrolled here since he was 6 weeks old. All of his teachers have been so great with him. They have been very open and communicate his days with me so well. They all seem to be very happy here and very happy working with kids. I feel like even when my son has had some rough days and with his eagerness to be involved in everything and doesn’t like to nap very well like the other kids; they have done a great job catering to him and never once made me feel like it was an inconvenience. They always seem to do what is in the best interest for my son while he is there and I couldn’t be more grateful for that. The facility seems like it could use a face lift, but I appreciate that Linda handles the things that are necessary well and that helps the parents with keeping costs down. My son and I have had a great experience here so far, and I would recommend it to anyone I know.

Please don’t bring your child here! After enrolling my child, Linda’s attitude went from sunny and welcoming to rude and hateful. The only time I got a polite word out of her was when I handed her a check. She once threw my child’s jacket and backpack in the trash can as a punishment. The staff has complained to me about her attitude and abusive language towards them, which explains the high turnover rate for staff. The person watching my child right before I pulled him out of that place was barely old enough to drive and was obviously not trained; he also never even gave us the courtesy of introducing himself, choosing instead to write hateful notes and stick them in my child’s cubby. Linda also called Child Protective Services on my husband and myself because of a tiny bump on my child’s head. She didn’t even think to ask us what happened! Considering the worst injuries he’s ever received have been under HER care, I think she owed us a call before making us go through a big investigation from CPS (that found that my child’s head bump was nothing to worry about) I feel blessed that I pulled my child out before something terrible happened.

These early stages in a child’s life are very important to their growth and development. Choosing a good child day care center is vital, one where the adult won’t just plunk your children down in front of a soap opera all day and feed them Top Ramen. You should look for day care centers that provide learning programs and playtime for your child, along with a safe and healthy environment. 

There are many different types of day care centers, ranging from basic nurseries to preschools that will provide more of a learning environment for your children. Some day care centers specialize in a specific age range, while others are more open. When you’re contemplating placing your child in a specific day care center, you should visit each one with your child. In this way, you can see how your child reacts to the other children who are there and to the caregiver. You want your child to be happy and comfortable.

While some day care centers provide a greater variety of activities than others, any good day care center is going to encourage positive interaction among all of the children. They will also have rules that promote good behavior, learning, manners, and child development. While you don’t need to go overboard in choosing suitable day care centers, you should approach the subject seriously and with thought. Your child is going to be spending a good-sized portion of his or her life in day cares and you want to make sure it is going to be a positive experience. Family is the most important thing in the world and you should make sure that your children are your first priority.
When you are considering a day care center, you should look at where it is located and how much it costs. There’s not much sense in putting your son or daughter in daycare so that you can work full time and spending most of what you earn on the day care center’s tuitions and your travel expenses. If that’s the case, you might as well stay home with your child. However, if you do truly need the money, there are usually plenty of day care services available and it shouldn’t be too difficult to find one close by that is reasonably priced. 

Different Kinds of Child day Care Centers

While child day care centers are common, there is such a huge demand for this service that there are now quite a variety of options available other than basic day care. These include the following:

  • Home child care or family childcare
  • Child care services
  • Preschool
  • Nursery

Home child care tends to be the most popular option because it is generally more affordable and a smaller environment. While some day care centers are quite large and can provide better early childhood education, it is also more difficult for each child to receive personal attention. Day care centers that are based out of someone’s home are usually more personal and your child can receive more care and nurturing. Most parents want their children to be receiving love and affection, the care that they themselves would give them. They don’t want a day care business that is merely going to make sure that their child is still alive and adequately healthy.

Home child care providers are also more adaptable, generally speaking. This means that if your child likes a certain song sung to them before they take their nap each day, the home care provider is more likely to be willing to do that than someone in a larger day care facility. Most adult home child care providers are parents themselves, making them better able to understand and love your child.

Other Things to Think About

One of the first steps you should take after picking out a family day care center that you think will be suitable for your child is do a little investigating. This can involve talking to the parents of the other children that use the child day care center to see what they think about it. You should also always check to make sure the child care service you are considering is legally licensed to operate in your state. Licensing officials check criminal records and ensure that the child care provider has emergency response training and a safe and healthy environment for the children.
As mentioned earlier, it is a good idea to visit the child day care center that you are considering. You should do this at least a couple of times, and try to go at different times of the day so that you can get a better idea of what kind of schedule they have. This will help you to see how your own child would fit in.
If you are having difficulties finding the appropriate child care environment for your son or daughter, there are some other options. Some people get family and friends to help out, while others hire a nanny. Adult nannies are a good option because they ensure that your child receives personal attention and quality child care. However, this also means that your child will not receive as much social interaction since he or she won’t have other children to play with like in a family day care center.

No matter what option you decide to go with, make sure that you know who you are leaving your child with.  Meet them, get to know them, and let your child do the same. Do some research on the internet to make sure that no one has had negative experiences with the day care center you are considering. Check to make sure that they are legally licensed. Once you have done all of this, you can feel more confident and secure in knowing that you have chosen the right day care center for your child.

Switching Day Care Centers

Choosing Another Child Care Provider

So you want to switch day care providers for your kids but you don’t know where to start or what to choose among the plethora of options out there in this world. It is fittingly one of the most important decisions of a young parent’s journey due to the fact that a child’s first formative years up until the age of six is critical. It is important for parents to not just consider the monetary impact of these choices but also the emotional, intellectual, and social future impacts the choice of a day care provider will have on their kids in the long term future. So let’s discuss some general tips to consider for the parent and the child to consider when one is looking to switch day care providers within a short time frame.

First, you must consider the cost of attending some of the more prestigious and rigorous day care provider centers in your area. In some areas, let’s face the reality that the more money per month per child spent; the better the facilities and the educational value experience offered for your child. Things such as using smart boards and I Pad’s to enhance the learning experience is a very real possibility in these places. However, if a parent is budget conscious they can still afford this experience but it would mean cutting back on all or most non-necessity spending. This would include curbing your eating out habits as well as any leisure entertainment or travel activity and place that money instead into your child’s future day care home. If an expensive day care sees that you are making an effort to keep up with the payments; then they will be more willing to work with you and not let your child leave that place. For a child going to this environment, they need to consider whether or not they will fit into this environment, things like playtime, feeding time, and individual care of the staff- is it received well by the child? These will make the difference between choosing these ones or a cheaper alternative. Cheaper is not all bad if the quality and availability of care is there for your child in the first place.

Secondly, you need to consider your travel times and distance of day care relative to your work and other important places like the hospital, grocery store, bank, and places that you frequent on a daily basis. Is it near enough that you can get to your child should he/she become ill or need special attention so that the day care center can contact you and arrange a meeting with you the same day if needed.

Furthermore, you need to consider the overall cleanliness and friendliness of the day care center provider. Do not underestimate a clean environment for your kid to play and learn in with other kids. Your kid will enjoy making new friends in a clean and safe environment. Plus you as a parent will enjoy the peace of mind of knowing that your child will not be being home any unwanted germs and diseases into your house. Parents must also consider if there is a dispute over payment and care; how does the management and staff deal with such requests? If there is a lackadaisical approach to your core issues; then that is a bad prelude of things to come concerning your child’s care. Your child will probably feel like he/she is being neglected or not fed on time and will start to complain to you ever so slightly that something is not right. When they do, do not hesitate to take them out of that day care center and find another one immediately.

In a recessionary economy, it is okay and permissible for both parents and kids to demand the best care for their dollar. Make your day care dollar stretch by reading all of the material and brochures and visiting every day center on your list until you find that perfect fit for your child. It’s out there; it is just waiting on you to find it!

Child Care Options for Low Income Families

One of the most frustrating aspects of being a working citizen is not having the ability to afford childcare. The majority of day care facilities charge as much as $300 per week for each child. That amount is difficult for middle-class citizens to pay. Low-income families cannot fathom paying such an expense. Luckily, the government and the various states have developed programs that help low-income families get the childcare they deserve. The following is some information on those programs:

Extended Day Program

The extended day program can assist low-income working parents during the regular school year. Many school districts offer this program. The school keeps children before and after school hours for a small monthly fee. A parent can drop a child off as early as 7:00 a.m. and pick the child up as late as 6:00 p.m. This program is excellent for low-income workers with daytime weekday jobs. The cost is approximately $150 per month for before and after school. The weekly rate is approximately $37.50, which is extremely competitive.

The attendants participate in various activities with the children before and after school. They help the children with their homework so that the parents have less stress when they come home from work. They give the children a full breakfast in the morning program and a snack in the evening program. Parents can opt to pay for the morning program only, the evening program only, or both programs. The evening program is the more expensive of the two because it lasts so many hours after the school releases the children. The evening program is $100 while the morning program is $52.

The Child Care Assistance Program

CCAP is a special program that provides childcare assistance to certain low-income families. People who are collecting TANF are automatically eligible to receive this assistance. Teenage parents who are working on obtaining their educations are also eligible for CCAP. Those who are not collecting TANF can still qualify if they are pursuing education that will improve their work skills and job opportunities. Parents can apply for CCAP assistance with the Department of Children & Family Services. The financial guidelines for qualification are along the lines of a $3,000 per month income threshold for a four-person family. The applicant must have proof of income, social security cards, birth certificates, and immunization records for all children. Application processing can take up to 30 days.

Head Start

Head start is a program for children between the ages of three and five. The program provides childcare services and medical services to the children who qualify. It is funded by the Administration of Children’s Services. The Head Start program covers childcare from 7 a. m. to 5 p.m. Teachers work with the children to fine-tune their social and developmental skills. Those who are interested in the program may apply online. Applicants go on a waitlist until there is an available slot in the program. It is best for an interested person to complete an application as quickly as possible since the wait may be extended.

Child Care Voucher Program

The Child Care Voucher Program is in effect in many states throughout the United States. It provides a subsidy of up to 95 percent of childcare cost to low-income families. Subsidy recipients will choose an eligible provider from the list of licensed providers. They may also select a relative or an in-home provider. The Child Care Voucher Program covers the childcare from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. This is known as the traditional childcare period. However, the program also covers non-traditional times for parents who work odd shifts. It covers nights, weekends, and evenings.

A wide variety of options is available for low-income childcare. Many stay-at-home moms also run small day care businesses in which they discount their services. There is a way to make working and taking care of your children affordable.

When I sat down to brainstorm a list of ideas for this article, I jotted down some immediate thoughts, and went back up the list to start counting. I had 23 items just like that, and I was just getting warmed up. I jotted down a few more, and decided this list should really be called the 20 BEST things to do in Greenfield with kids. Trust me there’s plenty more, but this will definitely keep kids of all ages busy and entertained.

Riley Park

Apple Street & US Highway 40
Riley Park has multiple playgrounds for both older and little kids. There are tennis courts, pickle ball courts, skate park, basketball court, and baseball fields, as well as a great frisbee golf course, all nestled along the beautiful Brandywine Creek. We love this as a picnic spot because there are plenty of tables and shelters. There is also plenty of parking and restrooms. This park is great for all seasons, but they have a a huge hill perfect for sledding during snowy months.

Riley Pool

Adjacent to Riley Park is the city pool. The pool requires admission, but has 2 curvy water slides, a rock wall, and a really nice toddler water play area. There is a concession stand and a cute little playground right outside the entrance of the pool, meaning you can make a whole day out of this stop.

Riley Splashpad

The fabulous splash pad is free, and there is plenty of outdoor seating, umbrellas, and nice restrooms. There is also plenty of parking for your convenience.  A playground right at the entrance has rubber flooring, so you don’t have to worry about any mud, and it’s an extra attraction to keep kids busy.

Brandywine Park

900 E. Davis Road
This park has lots of soccer field space, so if you are looking for an open and sunny place to run or play ball, this is the place for you. There is also a nice playground with mulch. Restrooms and plenty of parking, and a concession stand during soccer season makes this park even more enjoyable.

Commons Park

856 W. 5th Street
This small neighborhood park with traditional playground equipment and a log cabin playhouse for pretend play. The area is mulched, but plan ahead since there are no restrooms and limited parking.

Pennsy Trail

From County Road 150 W. thru to County Road 400 East, just south of U.S. Highway 40
This 5.6 mile long trail, following an abandoned railroad line, is the perfect place to run, walk or bike. The Pennsy Trail has art along the trails to enhance your walk or run.  Stop almost anywhere along the way, since there are several parking locations through the trail.  Please note, the trail does cross some busy streets, so adults need to remind children to stop and look both ways when crossing. The city is adding an outdoor amphitheater and playground along the trail in 2021.

Beckenholdt Park

2770 N. Franklin Street
This setting is a native prairie/wetland area, with trails twisting through it. Most trails are paved (which is prefect for those with strollers), but there are a couple dirt trails and boardwalk areas. This spot is perfect for nature observations, seeing birds and wildflowers nestled near some ponds. There is plenty of parking and restrooms are available at the park.

Thornwood Preserve

1597 S. Morristown Pike
If you kids are into creek stomping, this is the place to do it. Put on your mud boots, because all the trails through this 40 acre wooded preserve are natural, with a couple of boardwalks. Trails range in difficulty levels, and there are plenty of areas to play near a bubbling brook. There is even an area called the dry creek. My kids love exploring here, and feel like they are Lewis & Clark trekking through the woods. There is a gravel parking lot, small picnic area, and a port-a-pot restroom.

Henry B. Wilson Park

2349 Collins Way
Henry B. Wilson Park 14 acre park with trails and mountain bike features. There is a floating bridge across the creek, and when the water levels are low it could also be a great creek stomping area. For parking, the city suggests parking in the nearby Kohl’s parking lot.

Evolution VR

1757 Melody Lane
If you have older kids interested in gaming, you should check out Evolution VR. This virtual reality gaming studio has several rooms to check out, and they have a wide selection of games for all ages. Party options are also available.

Hitherto Coffee and Gaming Parlour

1558 N. State Street
Hitherto is coffee shop, with plenty of space for you to spread out and play board games. While the store does sell board games, they also offer sample games for you to try while you’re there. This is a great option to try out a new game to see if your kids will enjoy it, before committing to the price tag.  They serve a variety of drinks and snacks, making this a perfect rainy day option or spot to escape the heat.

Hometown Comics

1040 N. State Street
If your kids are superhero fans, this is a store you will want to check out with them. The store offers a huge selection of comic books to peruse, and all the super hero trinkets and souvenirs you heart could want.

Hancock County Public Library

900 W. McKenzie Road
You may not think of a library as the typical place to take kids, but the Greenfield branch is not your typical library. Back in the children’s area, there are two play houses, chock full of pretend play items. There is a Lego area, too, with plenty of Duplo’s and table space to build on. Next is a nature nook, with activities and an open play area. This spot has benches for adults in your party to take a rest, and plenty of puzzle toys to keep your kids busy, as well as a computer area.

Eagles Nest

New Road & Apple Street
Greenfield is home to a nesting pair of eagles, and the nest is located at the corner of New Road and Apple Street. You can easily see the nest from your car as you drive by, and sometimes you can spot one of these birds perched on a limb.

Shekinah Footgolf

871 E. Davis Road
Think soccer combined with golf and you would have FootGolf. It is a new and fun experience, worth checking out with the kids.  This is a business, so there are fees to play, but the experience on this beautiful nine-hole course is worth the price.

Riley Boyhood Home & Museum

250 W. Main Street
In downtown Greenfield, you can tour the former home of  famous Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley. Immerse the family in history here, because you will feel like you are transported back to the 1850’s. There are admission fees for the house and museum.

Tuttle’s

Nothing says Fall like picking your own apples from the tree, but Tuttles Orchard has plenty of activities to keep you busy year-round. Tractor town is an adorable outside play area for your kids to explore for an admission fee. The farm store and café are open year round, for all your produce and tasty treat needs.

Lark Ranch

1611 N. Meridian Road
A train ride, giant slide, and treehouse are just a couple of the many attractions at Lark Ranch. It is always a fresh adventure, because every year they add more rides and activities for kids of all ages to enjoy. Check their website for the weekends they are open and admission fees.

Strike Force Lanes Bowling

1539 W. Main Street
Strike Force Lanes Bowling is a great spot for indoor fun at a small cost. Bowling lanes can have bumpers for younger kids. They serve pizza and snacks, plus there is a room available for hosting birthday parties.

For my last item, I’m actually wrapping up a couple ideas into one entry (because I have soooo many ideas for you). Greenfield has some great businesses that my kids like to go to. PetSmart is like a mini visit to the zoo for them with glowfish, lizards, snakes and more. The Home Depot has  kids workshops the first Saturday of every month, and they are a do-not-miss event. (Be sure to register for these in-advance!) There are two farm stores in town which get baby chicks in the early spring, or have toy tractors for children who like to farm. There is also a John Deere dealership, north of town on Hwy. 40. My son loves to drive by here and see the big combines.

ABOUT GREENFIELD

Greenfield is a K-8 elementary school in the heart of Center City – Philadelphia. In 2018, it was awarded the National Blue Ribbon from the U.S. Department of Education.

The History of Greenfield

In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, there were very few public schools serving families in Center City. Many children attended private school or were bussed to schools outside of Center City.

In September 1954, parents and the Center City Residents Association (CCRA) pressured the Board of Education to open an elementary school in Center City West. City Center School, which was the original name, resided in the YWCA at 2027 Chestnut Street. According to the CCRA, there were seven teachers and 153 children ages six to twelve when the school opened.

Within six years, there were 250 students and the space at YWCA was becoming less accommodating with the growing population. Again, parents and the community demanded a better facility to support the growing needs of the students/faculty. After a year of community meetings and appearances before the Board of Education, the Board purchased the former Jerrold Electronics Building at 23rd and Chestnut streets in 1960. The idea was to use the building as a temporary school with the intent of building a new school in the near future.

By 1963, parents and the community decided it was time to build a new building so in 1964 the Board of Education bought all the properties on the block that is now Greenfield. At this point the student population had grown to 375.

The process of building the new building began in 1966 and doors opened September 1970, with an enrollment of 780 children.

“The beautiful Albert M. Greenfield School that resulted is a tribute to years of cooperation among CCRA, parents and a host of hard working officers of the City Center Home and School Association. It is also a tribute to the Board of Education, who in their wisdom understood that a qualified public school was crucial to the renaissance taking place in Center City.” – CCRA News June 1997

Mrs. Albert M. Greenfield officiated the cornerstone ceremonies for the elementary
school named in memory of her late husband.

Albert M. Greenfield was a prominent Philadelphia-based businessman, who became influential in politics and philanthropy. His influence earned him the nickname, “Mr. Philadelphia.” Mr. Greenfield died in January 1967 and the School District of Philadelphia honored his legacy of public service to Philadelphia by naming our school after him.

Greening Greenfield

The “Greening Greenfield” project was a five-phase initiative that transformed the building and grounds of the school from a mixed-use asphalt play yard to a self-sustaining green space.  

The project was part of the Philadelphia Water Department’s efforts to solve the “overflow problem” caused by rain water running along paved city streets creating havoc on the city’s underground systems. Completed in 2010, Greening Greenfield helped earn our school national acknowledgment as a “Green Ribbon School” and “Greening Greenfield” remains a core value of the school, its students, and the community.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2022-2023 school year will begin on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022!

** Catchment Zone Requirements **

We will only be registering children living within the Greenfield catchment area. The catchment of Greenfield School is from the south side of the Ben Franklin Parkway to the north side of Bainbridge Street, and from the west side of Broad Street to the Schuylkill River.

You can use the school district’s school locator tool to plug in any home address to confirm whether it is within the Greenfield catchment (which is a requirement to attend Greenfield).

When registering, you must have your child’s original birth certificate, his/her vaccination records, your own government-issued photo ID, and your original gas or electric bill from the past month as proof of residence. Please note that water or cell phone bills are not accepted as proof of residence. (For Kindergarten registration documents must show that your child will be 5 years old on or before September 1 the year of enrollment.)

Greenfield teachers, middle schoolers, staff, and parents will talk about the Greenfield Middle School community and curriculum. Parents of existing Greenfield students as well as parents considering Greenfield Middle School for their kids’ education are invited and welcome to attend. It’s a packed and informative morning, and we hope to see you there!

Years ago, my mother and father had a dream to start a restaurant with their six children. My father, a Pastor, took a leave of absence from serving a church. Our first restaurant, Pontillo’s Pizzeria on 13th & Q, opened April 27th, 1978 which later became daVinci’s. My father, Kalmer, saw the restaurant as a ministry in which we could touch many lives everyday. Now I am continuing that dream with my family. There is a special joy we have in serving our guests and we want you to feel welcome here. You are our extended family.

My brother Kent and I trained in 1977 at a Country Kitchen restaurant in Green Valley, Arizona. I have come full circle. Greenfield’s today is focused on breakfast while at the same time offering wonderful lunch, dinner and catering options. The name Greenfield’s comes from Psalm 23:2, I just replaced the word pastures with fields. He makes me lie down in “Green Fields”. May your visit here be a blessing.  Fundraising events have changed, with many other things in our personal and professional lives due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Social distancing, wearing masks and financial insecurities have made it harder to host fundrasing events, but charities and non-profits are still in need of funds if not more now, than ever before!

Greenfield’s is hosting Cash For A Cause events to help support local causes and non-profit organizations and would like to reach out to the city of Lincoln to remind people that these fundraising events can still be hosted in a safe way. Our staff takes this virus seriously and take precautions to provide a safe environment, following CDC guidelines and taking extra measures to keep our staff and guests safe during this time.

“At Greenfield’s we have an advantage, in that we have enough space to host these events while maintaining social distancing guidelines, as well as an outdoor patio space available if weather permits,” said Kevin Knudson, owner of Greenfield’s. “We have also adjusted our normal restaurant operating hours, so these events are tailored to the cause we are raising money for.”

Greenfield’s is open for regular restaurant hours 7am-2pm daily, serving up breakfast, brunch and lunch to the city of Lincoln. We host these events in the evening, usually with special menus designed specifically for the event. “This gives us the opportunity to invite the public in to have a great time, and catch dinner and drinks, while creating much-needed income streams for local charities and causes,” said Joe Armstrong, Chief Operating Officer of Greenfield’s.

As your Community Action agency, we work to create access and opportunity for our most vulnerable residents, and build communities in which all people have the opportunity to thrive.

Now, just as we have for the last 55 years, we will uphold that commitment to our community. We recognize that COVID-19 will likely have the hardest impact on those we serve, and are creating flexible service delivery plans, informed by best practice recommendations from the CDC, World Health Organization, and Department of Public Health, to protect the safety of our participants and our 350 employees while continuing to provide critical services in the most effective and socially-conscious means possible.

ACCESS

Community Action will continue to operate to fullest extent possible without compromising the health and safety of our staff and our participants. Here are the latest program updates as of this morning (these are subject to change based on federal and state guidance and requirements):

 

COMMUNITY RESOURCES & ADVOCACY: Our Community Resources & Advocacy staff work with households in need to access financial assistance that may be available to prevent homelessness for help with rent arrears or move-in assistance. We can assist households throughout our service area of Franklin and Hampshire counties and the North Quabbin. For more information, please contact us. 413-475-1570

 

HEAD START & EARLY LEARNING PROGRAMS:
Our five full-day, full-year sites are open for on-site services with a shortened day and comprehensive screening and other stringent health & safety precautions in place. Our part-day sites remained closed at this time. Home visiting programming continues to take place virtually. Please contact our enrollment office at 413-475-1420 for inquires. 

 

FUEL ASSISTANCE:
Our Fuel Assistance Program is open, but not accepting walk-in or in-person appointments. Applications can be taken over the phone. We are continuing to certify applications, authorize deliveries, and pay vendors. 413-774-2310

ENERGY EFFICIENCY:
All Energy Efficiency Programs are fully operational and can be reached at 413-376-1140. Please call first. At this time, walk-in appointments are not available.

HEATING REPAIR PROGRAM:
Our Heating Repair Program is open for heating system repairs and replacements. We can be reached at 413-376-1115. Please call first. At this time, walk-in appointments are not available.

THE COMMUNITY ACTION FAMILY CENTER:
Our Family Center is open with playgroups and support groups on site and in person. We are asking all visitors (over age 2) to mask. We have drop in hours where you can come in without a prior appointment. You can also call 413-475-1555 to make an appointment for individual and family support or find out more about any of our programs. Call to sign up to visit our community closet. Drop in for diapers during open hours.

In the 2021 season, in addition to the main maintenance of the territory, a number of tasks were performed:

  • the playground was completely reconstructed,

  • the stage in the park was reconstructed ,
  • hedge bushes were replaced (partially),
  • a new Christmas tree was purchased and installed,
  • new bins were purchased for replacement in the village (installation is scheduled for spring 2022).

On the territory of the village with a total area of ​​ 112 hectares there are 248 households .
The streets are named Rassvetnaya, Parkovaya, Centralnaya.

Greenfield – a very green village!
Trees and bushes have grown here in 10 years. The plants are carefully looked after taking into account the growing season: they are treated from pests, fertilized, cut to shape. A hedge stretches along the houses, which forms the appearance of the village. The natural dominant is the lake with a recreation area in the central part.

The central park by the lake spreads over an area of ​​about 35,000 square meters. Flower beds, deciduous and fruit trees, conifers are planted here. Expensive bonsai and other clumsy forms – arbors, spirals, cones, balls, cubes, standard maple balls, linden cubes – decorate the territory.

Infrastructure
Greenfield village is characterized by the most developed infrastructure.

The fashionable Villagio restaurant in the center of the village is famous in New Riga thanks to its exquisite interior by fashion designer Marina Putilovskaya, and the English school Kingsley School, where native speakers teach, is also popular with small residents of neighboring villages. The village also has a grocery store and a collection point for the Glavkhimchistka, which always has special offers for the residents of the village.

In the central park of the village, near the fountain, there is a wooden stage and a chessboard. There are benches for rest, gazebos, rotundas, stone turrets, decorative ruins, exedra, grottoes, a waterfall, a dry stream, bridges, a fountain, and sculptures.

For lovers of outdoor activities there is a volleyball field, which was chosen by fans of the game from different villages of Villagio Estate, a tennis court, a workout ground, as well as a universal sports ground.

For children in the village there are 3 playgrounds (one of them was presented to the children of the village by a former resident) on a rubber surface and one playground on gravel. In 2021, the Service Company replaced one of the playgrounds with a new one with the most modern gaming complexes.

In winter, the park is filled with a sledding hill and a tennis court skating rink. In the forest between the villages there is a ski track with a length of
8 km .

Every year on the feast of the Epiphany, a font is equipped on the lake with wooden descents into the water, heated tents and floorings are installed on the shore for passage to the font. At one time, the very first volleyball team appeared in Greenfield. Now the players are friends with each other, playing on the outdoor playgrounds in Villagio and training in indoor complexes, preparing for the summer season.
