Martinez Early Childhood Center, Inc. enrolls low income and Head Start children continuously throughout the year.  Please call 925-229-2000 to see if you are eligible.

Special Programs
We work closely with the school district to provide special education if needed.  A developmental screening is completed on each child minimally twice a year called Desired Results.  The results are shared with the parent.

Our teachers have child development permits issued by the State’s Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

We have been accredited since 1999  by the National Association of the Education of Young Children.  In 2007, our program was one of the first in the nation to be accredited in the new criteria.

The Martinez Early Childhood Center, Inc. is subsidized by the State Department of Education to serve low-income families with quality, full time child care and development.  Parents must be working or in vocational training.  Parents are subject to fees according to their income and number of family members.  Enhancement services are available from Head Start for eligible families.

The Martinez Early Childhood Center has been offering quality child care and development since 1974.   We are concerned with meeting the needs of each individual child.  Our program offers enriched developmentally appropriate curriculum to prepare children for Kindergarten.   The program is accredited by the National Association of the Education of Young Children.

When Your Child Turns Three

Transition to IDEA Part B 

Early Start is California’s implementation of a federal program designed to provide assistance to infants and toddlers with special needs or those who are at risk for developmental delays.  At the age of 3, Early Start services end and your child will transition from Early Start to various situations, such as:

• community preschool programs
• public preschool programs, such as Head Start, state funded preschool programs
• child care programs
• special education services, pending eligibility
• home

The specific scenario for your child will be determined based on your child’s developmental assessments completed before his or her third birthday and your participation in the transition and assessment process.  For children who reside in the Martinez Unified School District, a transition IFSP meeting is scheduled with your Early Start case manager and a District representative.  Following this meeting, the District preschool team will review the information, develop an assessment plan if appropriate, conduct additional assessments as necessary, and schedule an IEP meeting prior to your child’s third birthday.

Even though your child received early intervention services, there is not automatic eligibility for special education services.  The following conditions or educational diagnoses serve as the basis for qualifying for special education eligibility:

• Established Medical Disability
• Hard of Hearing

Took two shots in the penalty shootout.

Argentina team in the World Cup semi-finals! In regular time, the victory over the Netherlands was released, but snatched out in a penalty shootout. Thanks to Emiliano Martinez, because he took the first two shots and led the team to a penalty victory.

In the summer of 2021, Martinez sparkled in the Copa América and became one of the heroes of the Argentina national team: the team conceded only twice, the Aston Villa goalkeeper made three saves in the semi-final penalty shootout against Colombia. nine0006

Since then, Martin has been irreplaceable in the national team. It is all the more surprising that the 30-year-old Emiliano spends only the third full season in his career. We talk about the key stories of his life: poverty, moving from Argentina to England for the sake of Arsenal at the age of 16 and total distrust of the club (6 loans!).

Sometimes there was nothing to eat, there was a lot of crime around. In the boarding school “Independiente” they took drugs and drank

Emiliano quietly looked into the room and saw that dad was crying. He couldn’t pay the bills – there wasn’t a peso in the house. Usually the Martinez paid for electricity for a month, gas for a month, but even such a scheme did not work here. nine0006

Alberto sold fish, Susanna cleaned the hotel.

Emiliano rarely saw his father – he was constantly working. True, if Alberto did not have a trade, there was nothing to eat.

In the mornings, Susanna accompanied Amy and her brother to the bus to school and left for work at the same bus stop. So that the children could study, she took extra shifts and worked 12 hours a day. Susanna wanted to give her children an education that would allow them to break through into another life.

Several times the house was attacked by robbers, although there was nothing to take there – there were not even doors and a toilet. Once, thieves killed the Martinez’s beloved dog right in the hallway. nine0006

Emiliano was never afraid of his native Mar del Plata (a city 400 kilometers from Buenos Aires), he was simply born there. But in the boarding school “Independiente”, where Amy ended up at 12, for the first time he became scared. He saw other guys taking drugs, smoking and drinking. Someone could not stand it and ran away from the boarding school in tears, but Amy was never distracted from the goal. Since childhood, he has been a fan of Independiente and wanted to get into the base. Since the family did not even have money for boots, Independiente placed Amy on full support. nine0006

At 16, Martinez sparkled for Argentina in the U17 America’s Cup.

When Emiliano returned from the tournament, Independiente President Julio Camparada invited him to his office. Martinez rejoiced, thinking that now he would be offered an improved contract – then he would be able to help the family more often.

But Martinez was wrong. “You were noticed by the London Arsenal. We need to go to see it,” the president said.

After watching Emiliano came to Mar del Plata not knowing if he would ever return to England. When he entered the house, he heard that his father was crying. Due to problems at work, he had no money left, and the car had to be sold to cover his debts. Emiliano knew he had to save his family. nine0006

A few weeks later, Martinez was invited back to Independiente headquarters. The President announced that he had agreed to sell Amy to Arsenal for 500,000 euros.

Mom and brother cried, persuading Emiliano to refuse, but he knew that he would receive a signing bonus of 5 thousand pounds. The first thought is that dad will be able to buy a new car. The second is that the salary at Arsenal will allow you to pay the bills.

Amy understood what he had to do.

Love saved Martinez in London

London received Emiliano unfriendly. Due to passport problems, he was unable to play for Arsenal for two years. It was very lonely, in training he held on, but, returning to a small apartment, he cried.

Amy got better only in a small restaurant nearby, where the atmosphere was reminiscent of her native Argentina. In general, Emiliano’s daily route was as follows: house – bus stop – base – bus stop – house.

While waiting for the bus, Amy looked for a long time at the beautiful girl who, like him, came to the bus stop every day. Gaining courage, Martinez met and invited her to his favorite restaurant. Turned out she was the owner’s daughter. nine0006

Emiliano and Mandinha got married seven years later.

The girl helped Emiliano a lot with adaptation – she taught him English (Martínez even received a bonus of 20 thousand pounds from the club for his progress in the language) and introduced him to the local culture.

Since 2012, Martinez has been in the loan cycle: Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Wolves, Getafe, Reading. At first it seemed that the loan was a step towards progress, which would give a pass to the gates of Arsenal. Years passed, but nothing changed – it became oppressive. nine0006

Arsene Wenger reassured Martinez and promised him a place at the start. “Wenger raised me from the age of 16. I trusted him a lot, and he believed in me,” recalled the goalkeeper.

But as time went on, Amy didn’t feel like he was part of Arsenal. He was just a goalkeeper who filled out the line in the application for the match. After returning from Reading, Martinez told management that he would not go on loan again. Emiliano gave the bosses a choice: either they give him a chance, or he leaves. When the German was injured at the end of the 2019/20 season, it was time for Martinez. 10 years of struggle were not in vain: on August 1, 2020, Martinez won the FA Cup, beating Chelsea in the final. After the whistle, Emiliano burst into tears, thinking that he would finally become the iron first number.

Less than a month later, Amy took the second title – in the FA Super Cup, Arsenal defeated Liverpool on penalties.

But this was Martinez’s last match at Arsenal.

After beating Chelsea and Liverpool, Amy was talking to Mikel Arteta and the coach said he couldn’t guarantee a start for anyone. “We took two titles, I played great, but can you assure me that I will be the main one in Saturday’s match?” Emiliano recalled his thoughts. nine0006

Martinez was told he had a 95% chance of starting in the first leg of the new season against Fulham. “Why not 100?” echoed in Amy’s head.

He just wanted to finally be trusted, so he wrote to Arteta: “Thank you for everything, but I’m leaving.”

Emiliano decided there would be no regrets and signed with Aston Villa.

Martinez promised his father that he would play for the national team. After winning the semi-finals, Kopy yelled, “Daddy, this is for you!”

In his first game for Villa, Martinez took a penalty and won the prize for the best player. A few more matches passed, and Emiliano told his wife: “I think I fell in love with football again.” nine0006

At 28, Martinez played his first full season in the Premier League – 38 games, 15 clean sheets. Finally, his dream came true: he was the main goalkeeper, in whom they unconditionally believe. But there was something else he didn’t do. As a child, Amy promised his father that he would become the main goalkeeper of the national team.

In June 2021, this dream also came true – Emiliano entered the 2022 World Cup qualifier against Chile, then against Colombia (he was replaced in the 40th minute due to a suspected concussion, but Martinez returned already in the first America’s Cup game). nine0006

Martínez conceded only twice in the tournament victory, and also snatched a penalty shoot-out for Argentina in the semi-final against Colombia, psychologically destroying Yerry Mina before he hit.
