Children with visual impairments in the safe hands of specialists 133 kindergartens
October 15, 2019
October 15 is International White Cane Day. By this date, we will tell you about a unique institution in the Vyborgsky district – a compensating type kindergarten No. 133.
Today the kindergarten accepts children with amblyopia* and strabismus from 2 to 7 years of age. With children with disabilities, both pedagogical and medical support is organized.
In the 133rd compensatory kindergarten of the Vyborg District, there are educational units for children with disabilities who need psychological and pedagogical and (or) correctional and developmental assistance from the “Center for Accompanying a Child with Disabilities and His Family”, “Early Assistance Services “.
When enrolling in an institution, each child is individually prescribed treatment, visual regimen and a place at a desk, depending on visual capabilities.
At the beginning of the school year, all children are checked by an ophthalmologist. The check includes:
– visometry – checking visual acuity;
– refractometry under cycloplegia;
– strabometry;
– selection of spectacle correction;
– ophthalmoscopy;
– biomicroscopy;
– indicators of binocular perception.
All treatments that are carried out in the garden can be divided into:
1. Pleoptic – to improve visual acuity.
2. Orthoptic – elimination of the angle of strabismus.
3. Diploptic – the inclusion of a squinting eye in the process of forming visible images.
Throughout the year, children are checked monthly for visual acuity, binocularity, the treatment regimen is adjusted, depending on the dynamics.
Nurses of the ophthalmological office treat students daily, monitor the implementation of occlusions and doctor’s prescriptions.
The kindergarten is equipped with speech therapist’s, psychologist’s, typhlopedagogue’s rooms and a medical complex, there are sports and music halls.
The conditions for successful treatment have been created in the kindergarten, modern equipment and computer programs are used here, including the medical and diagnostic complex “Akademik”, “EYE”, “Master”, “Search”, “Tip-top” in the form of a game . Such a variety of programs is caused by the need to maintain the interest and attention of the children in the process of treatment sessions.
In addition to ophthalmologists, other medical personnel work with the children. These are tiflopedagogues who develop visual perception and compensatory abilities of children, defectologists, speech therapists, experienced educators, psychologists and a music director.
And in order to maintain good physical shape, systematic classes are held with an experienced physical education instructor, which help children maintain and improve their health. Equipped with an orthopedic room for the treatment of children.
Only the joint work of teachers, parents and pupils helps to achieve results. At parent meetings, an ophthalmologist conducts group work, as well as individual conversations with parents, explaining the characteristics of each child.
Most of the graduates enter general education schools, gymnasiums, lyceums and successfully study there. The kids live life to the fullest. “Our graduates work in different professions: someone has become a master of sports in athletics, someone has become a taekwondo coach, someone has become an artist, someone has become an engineer. One of our graduates with vision problems became the European champion in swimming,” admits Inna Migunova, head of kindergarten No. 133.
The golden fund of the kindergarten works with the children: Lyudmila Varfolomeeva, educator of the highest category, she was awarded the Medal “For Valiant Labor”, Lidia Larina – teacher-defectologist, awarded a certificate of Honorary Worker of General Education of the Russian Federation and Natalya Gerasimova, educator, awarded a Certificate of Honor Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
Among the achievements of teachers – the Prize of the Government of St. Petersburg “The Best Educator of the State Preschool Educational Institution of St. Petersburg”, 7 teachers were awarded from the kindergarten, victories in competitions of pedagogical achievements and in the city competition “IRIS – research, development, innovation, cooperation” in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
The teaching staff of the kindergarten together with the Russian State Pedagogical University. A.I. Herzen prepared and published the publication “Monitoring the development of visual perception of older preschoolers with visual impairment in a preschool educational institution of a compensating type in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard”.
*Amblyopia is a condition in which there is a decrease in vision that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses, a violation of contrast sensitivity and accommodative abilities of one, less often both eyes, in the absence of any pathological changes in the organ of vision.

The institution was opened in 1984 under the leadership of Zinaida Makarova. The garden immediately accepted children from the orphanage, and in September of the following year, the institution began working with children with visual impairments. Since 2007, the pupils of the kindergarten have been children with hearing, vision and severe speech defects.
Since August 2000, Inna Migunova has been in charge of the garden. The teacher has the highest qualification category, was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the sign “Honorary Worker of General Education of the Russian Federation”, the Medal “Veteran of Labour”. In 2019, Inna Nikolaevna celebrated the 50th anniversary of her labor activity.
Kindergarten fruitfully cooperates with scientific, cultural and public organizations of the city: RSPU im. A.I. Herzen, Pedagogical College No. 4 of St. Petersburg, Central Psychological-Medical-Pedagogical Commission, Pediatric Academy, St. Petersburg City Budgetary Institution of Health “Diagnostic Center No. 7” (eye) for adults and children in the system of specialized ophthalmological care of the city, GBPOU Central Children’s Library-branch No. 4.
Department of Pediatrics – make an appointment with a pediatrician in Krasnodar
A pediatrician is considered one of the most difficult professions for a reason, since we are talking about working with children of different ages. Each specialist is responsible for the competently performed diagnosis, as well as the treatment and prevention of childhood diseases.
The pediatrician conducts advisory activities, has the authority to prescribe therapy, his main professional task is to preserve and strengthen the health of children. It is the pediatrician who interacts with colleagues, and it depends on him to which related specialist the small patient will be referred.
What diseases does a pediatrician treat
The pediatrician determines the presence of abnormalities in the development of congenital pathologies, specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of viral, infectious and respiratory diseases.
In addition, a pediatrician is contacted if a disease is suspected:
- endocrine and cardiovascular;
- GI;
- parasitic;
- bronchial;
- pulmonary, etc.
Which symptoms should be consulted with a pediatrician
In no case should you perceive an appeal to a pediatrician as excessive guardianship on the part of parents. In fact, each child has its own characteristics of development, someone has strong immunity, someone is prone to constant colds.
The pediatrician should be visited constantly, even with children whose health is beyond doubt. This should be done at least twice a year.
Symptoms that parents should pay attention to before deciding to visit a pediatrician include:
- abrupt changes in the child’s behavior;
- excessive excitability or, conversely, lethargy;
- persistent pain in specific places;
- elevated body temperature;
- presence of bleeding, bruising or swelling;
- dizziness and loss of consciousness;
- sneezing, coughing, labored breathing with wheezing;
- redness of the mucous membranes of the throat;
- vomiting or frequent belching;
- stool changes.
All of these symptoms imply immediate consultation with a pediatrician.
How to prepare for your first pediatrician appointment
The very first visit to the children’s doctor happens a month after birth. It is recommended to choose a baby day, on which just the smallest are examined. You need to take with you a birth certificate, an insurance policy or a parent’s passport, research results, if they have been previously conducted. It will not be superfluous to put a few disposable diapers, oilcloth, wet wipes and diapers, a set of change of clothes and a bottle of artificial formula.
Immediately before the appointment, the child should be fed in order to avoid problems if you have to stand in line.
How often should you visit a pediatrician depending on your age
In the first year of life, a pediatrician must be contacted monthly, as he measures the growth of the child at scheduled appointments and weighs him, conducting a visual examination. If any problems arise, you need to tell a specialist about them – he will tell you how to cope with certain manifestations.
With a child aged one year and older, the frequency of scheduled examinations is reduced significantly, it is enough to come to the doctor once every 3 months or due to illness.
