Great school. Loving teachers.

Our family loves this Childtime. The teachers we have encountered are all very caring and nurturing. It is extremely obvious they have the best interest of our child in mind. The activities they do with even the smallest of children are more than we had ever expected. It’s a terrific feeling to see our son excited as soon as we walk in the door. We have also developed a positive relationship with each

of our sons caregivers as he moves up in his classes. Additionally, the camera and Brightwheel app have been a great bonus in viewing our son at anytime and communicating with the Childtime staff.

Since Brooke has become the director, the communication from the facility has been amazing. I know my child is having a good time at school and I know she is making friends which could possibly be lifelong. She is constantly learning and developing and I know the teachers at ChildTime are excelerating the rate of her development.

Very clean and with tons of kind teachers that know their stuff! It seems expensive but when I break it down it is very cheap per hour. ..between $5-$8 for my child who’s a toddler. They play games and provide snack. They really love the kids and I like that my child will be in the same environment even through part of elementary school (their after-school program). I am looking to possibly move and trying to stay in area partly because I want my son to have this place and these teachers in his life (familiar, safe). His little mouth opens like a Muppet’s when he sees that we’re at Childtime; the only thing that bums him out is that we don’t stick around and play with him, we have to go to work! I have so many nice pictures because they send them out and laminate them. It’s clean, and I’ve never seen him with a mystery scratch or bruise – anything like that it documented. I will say, and I think it’s unavoidable, my kids has a runny nose all the time. But the kids play and hug each other and share pacifiers sometimes, and you can’t always catch that nonsense. I think it’s normal and the pediatrician agrees. Nothing scary has swung through there, though, and they are really good about calling home if your child has symptoms. They are just so sweet and my son feels safe and happy there. I did not cry my first day back to work. I didn’t have a nervous knot over it, because I had researched and visited the place. Becky, Nicole, Jen, Asia, Amanda, Emily, and a dozen I’ve left out were/are all so good with my little guy. Only thing is, I know they deserve better pay. I wish I could afford to pay more! No reservations whatsoever in recommending the place. Good luck in your searches! It’s a stressful choice to make.

White tower with colorful clock
This 15th-century city tower once served as the entrance to the city of Baden and was part of the fortress wall. The fortress wall collapsed, but the tower withstood the fight against time! Now only this tower remains, which is carefully preserved! I really liked the color of the tower – calm, but with a bright colorful clock decorating the tower at the top – it turns out a very unusual combination!

Review of: Hallwyl Castle
Real medieval castle
The 13th century castle is well preserved to this day. The castle has 2 museum houses,
dedicated not only to the Hallwyl family, but also to the history of this region. You can enter the castle grounds from 10:00 – 17:00, on Mondays the castle is closed. There is a cafe restaurant on the territory. After visiting the castle, take a walk around it, the view of the castle is magnificent! Not far from the castle there is a picturesque lake where boats sail. There is also a good walking trail around the lake.Published May 11, 2015

. VILLA Langmatt (Langmatt Foundation)
In Baden, you should definitely visit Villa Langmatt, where there is a small but excellent collection of paintings by the Impressionists – Cezanne, Renoir, Manet, Monet, Pissarro. Wonderful nude figures by Degas, paintings by Corot, Gauguin, Venetian landscapes of the 18th century. – this is not a complete list of works by outstanding masters that we can admire. And all this former private collection is located in the villa, which can rightly be called an impressionist museum.
A nice Frau met me at the entrance. I bought my ticket from her and she gave me a touching little cloth shoulder bag for small important items like glasses, phone and wallet. Because the handbag must be left in the cell.
FROM THE HISTORY OF VILLA LANGMATT.
Charming building built in 1900-1905. It was owned by Sydney Brown, one of the founders of the international organization of engineers for industrial giant Asea Brown Boveri, and his family. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were among the first collectors who became interested in modern French painting.
About 40 years ago, the son of Sydney Brown donated the villa and its treasures to the city of Baden.
Well-preserved furnishings, a collection of paintings, a rich library, a Chinese collection of the Han era testify to the high cultural lifestyle of a family of industrialists in the first half of the 20th century.
VENICE SALON of the villa is decorated with Louis XV and XVI furniture, 13 paintings (lead) by an unknown artist with city views, dated approximately 1745, hang on the walls. )..
Unique library room decorated with landscapes by Corot and Degas.
It also features selected paintings by Gustave Courbet, Pierre Bonnard and the American artist Mary Cassatt, who worked in France.
One of the halls displays works by French and Swiss artists of the 18th century.
In the dining room, I noticed an unusual tablecloth painted with autographs of the guests who visited the former owners. All these paintings were embroidered with colored threads over a pencil, the gallery attendant explained to me. Amazing job!
The attached gallery hosts contemporary art exhibitions.
The villa is surrounded by a wonderful park where you can have a picnic. The terrace of the villa has its own cafe with a small selection of sandwiches and cakes. I came here in late autumn, the perfect lawn was still bright green, but I imagine how beautiful blooming flower beds are in summer, and how pleasant it is to sit at a table to admire the beauty while drinking aromatic coffee. By the way, the cake was delicious. t
Langmatt Villa gallery address: st. Römerstraße 30., it is 150 meters west of the mineral water spa/ Only a 10-minute walk from the train station.

Interactive Modern Museum
Visited the temporary exhibition once again. In 2017, it is dedicated to the theme “Motherland”. The visitor passes through various stations that make him wonder what the Motherland means to him: close people, the place where he was born, safety or a community of like-minded people. The theory of fears of the famous psychoanalyst F. Riemann is taken as the basis of individual analysis. The visit includes an individual analysis of the personality, riding on a Ferris circle, interactive lectures and much, much more.
I liked it very much! I advise everyone!

on Tripadvisor How Ukrainian refugees settle in Switzerland
April 21, Minsk / Corr. BELTA/. In Switzerland, one of the most prosperous countries in the world, about 30,000 Ukrainian refugees have already applied for temporary protection status, the Strana newspaper reports.
If there is no host, in Switzerland refugees turn to the social service to provide temporary housing. First, they are settled in a camp, a hostel, or even a bomb shelter, which during the Cold War years half a century ago were massively built in case of a nuclear war. There are about 300,000 fortified bunkers in the country.
Kyiv resident Marina Shvaika, who has been living in Zurich with her family since the beginning of April, told Strana that at first Ukrainians were accommodated in four-star hotels with three meals a day. However, now Switzerland is overflowing with refugees, so people can first be settled in a bomb shelter. “After some time, people are resettled by families, in some cantons the state partially compensates the owners for rent. True, the waiting time for resettlement is now in June and longer,” the woman said.
The owners have entered into a rental agreement with some Ukrainians, and the state compensates them for the rent. “This includes food and utility bills. On average, a family of two adults and two children needs a thousand francs for food and other expenses, except for rent. Life here is at least twice as expensive as in Kyiv. A kilo of chicken fillet – 20 euros, which is almost 800 hryvnias. To save money, the Swiss go to Germany for groceries, if they are relatively close,” Marina Shvaika adds.
For some Ukrainian refugees, the expectation of permanent free housing has dragged on. “After two weeks in the camp and a week in a nursing home, they were given housing in a bomb shelter in the city of Uster. For several weeks. It is not clear when they will be moved to an apartment,” said Ekaterina Malysheva from Kharkov.
Obtaining a residence permit type S in Switzerland entitles you to monthly payments, which depend on the cantons. In Zurich and St. Gallon, for example, 500 (484 euros) francs per person, 750 francs for a married couple, 317 francs for the first minor child, 268 francs for each subsequent minor child.
“I received the first payment. They counted 1,100 francs for me and two children. Canton of St. Gallen. In some cantons they pay less. We signed a lease agreement with the family where I live,” said Olga Maevskaya from Lvov. “If everything suits everyone, then you stay in the family until you start earning and renting your own housing. The cost of renting an apartment with furniture for 2-3 people is from 1.2 thousand francs per month.
Unlike the EU countries, in Switzerland they may be interested in income from Ukraine (some of the refugees continue to work remotely or have savings). Some cantons require statements from accounts in Ukrainian banks. And they can even forfeit payments.
“Social workers confirmed that if there is money on the Ukrainian card, they will not credit assistance. I had 7 thousand hryvnias on the card, this is 220 francs. They told me:” You have the means to live, come back in a week, maybe you will receive a payment. “Neither I, nor two children, nor a retired mother have received a penny yet. As it turned out, in a country where the average salary is 4 thousand euros, four people can live on 200. I was shocked,” shares with its history Victoria Salary, which has been in Switzerland since April 3.
Refugees are also entitled to free medical treatment and schooling. There are no kindergartens up to 4 years old, only paid private groups. And they go to school from the age of 4-5.
“My children have already gone to school, I came to the nearest educational institution with my and their passports and wrote them down. Studying is in German, this is the language of the canton. The children have additional language classes. Classes cannot be missed without a good reason, otherwise, a fine. According to the law, children under 12 cannot be left alone at home, therefore it is not clear how to work, because the school schedule is not the most convenient, “says Olga Maevskaya.
Immediately after obtaining S status, you can get a job, but there is no shortage of low-skilled workers in Switzerland: with the start of the tourist season, demand will increase, but not significantly. Without knowledge of languages, there is little chance of finding a job even as a cleaner (they have a salary of 1.6 thousand francs).
It is easier for those who have high qualifications (IT, finance, engineering, medicine) and knowledge of languages (at least English, but it is desirable to know one more of the four state ones at least at the initial level). The authorities promise Ukrainians free language courses. Also, the Swiss recruitment agency Adecco Group launched a job search platform for Ukrainian refugees.
Along with the Ukrainians who are in a hurry to leave their country, there are many who are returning back. Last week, UN humanitarian agencies reported that some 870,000 Ukrainian refugees had returned to their homeland. 30,000 people return every day. According to UN forecasts, return migration to Ukraine will continue to grow.-0-

History
The castle of Versois and its outbuildings originally belonged to the barony of Faucigny. The castle is mentioned in the XI – XII centuries (1022), as well as nine other castrated “Geneva”. Beatrix, only daughter of Pierre de Savoie and Agnes, Lady of Faucigny, wife in 1251 Gig VII, Dauphin of Vienna; by this marriage the barony of Faucigny passes into the hands of their son Jean. Beatrix hires the Château de Versois for £4,000 to Artemon de Baldick or de Waldeck, a lawyer from Basel, whose receipt is dated February 25, 1290 years.
Pierre de Savoy, the future Count of Savoy, undertook the construction of the village around 1257. On June 2, 1282, the Counts of Geneva and the Dolphins of Vienna sign a treaty with Beatrice de Faucigny, daughter of Count Pierre II. Savoy and wife of Giga VII of Vienna, to recover the lands that Pierre received as a pledge from the Counts of Geneva in 1250. These lands were confiscated by Philip I, the new Count of Savoy. From 1282 until the beginning of the 14th century, the coalition of Versois opposes Philip Comte and then his successor Amedee V.
In 1571 this seigneury was sold and subdued for 25,000 gold crowns by Emmanuel-Philiber, Duke of Savoy, Nicolas de Watteville, Baron and Lord of Chateauvillein in Franche-Comte and Lord Colombier in the county of Neuchâtel by his mother. In 1598 Charles-Emmanuel, Duke of Savoy, elevated the land of Versois to marquis as a reward for services rendered by Nicolas de Watteville and his son Gerard.
After the exchange of the marquess of Salux in 1601, the possession of Versois became part of the country of Gex, which became French. Gerard de Watteville appeals to the Court of Accounts of Dijon and to the Parliament of Paris so that the King of France supports the sale and alienation of the Duke of Savoy. Since the decision of this court was too late, Gerard turned to Charles-Emmanuel of Savoy, who ceded to him on March 6, 1621, the land of Conflans as compensation. He was established as a marquisate, but since he did not have an income equal to that of Versois, the duke granted him an annuity of 1440 golden écus assigned to the salts of Chambéry.
The new city of Versois was founded in the 18th century at the request of the Duke of Choiseul and with the support of Voltaire, Count of Ferney. Versoix is still in France and is intended to compete with Geneva. In 1767, planning was entrusted to the military engineer Pierre Joseph de Bourcet. He designed an agglomeration of the correct octagonal shape, which will be built on the shore of a lake a few hundred meters from the medieval settlement of Versois-le-Bourg, which will make it possible to build a port. The disgrace of Choiseul in 1770 slows down the project. Construction resumed a little later with a less ambitious plan proposed by Jean Kerré, chief engineer for Bridges and Roads in Franche-Comté. This project, which provided for the creation of a city with a population of ten thousand people, was approved by King Louis XV in 1773. but was finally abandoned in 1777 without the completion of the port. All that remains is a canal diverting the waters of Versoix to supply water to the new city. Much later, at 1965, the port was completed according to the old plan.
During the French Revolution, Versoix, which was attached to the department of Ain, received the revolutionary name of Versoix-la-Rizon. In 1798, the city became part of the new department of Leman (the capital of Geneva). Under the Treaty of Paris of 1815, Versoix is annexed to the Canton of Geneva, as are six other communes (Pregny, Colleix-Bossy, Grand Saconnex, Meyrin and Vernier) of the country of Gex, in order to allow the entry of the Canton of Geneva. to the Swiss Confederation after 1815. The eastern part of Sauvergne is attached to it under the name Sauvergne-Geneva. Indeed, Switzerland demanded that the Republic of Geneva have a common border with the canton of Vaud. An agreement between France and Switzerland to transfer sovereignty was successful in 1816.
Economy
As of 2010, the unemployment rate in Versoix was 7.2%. As of 2008, 44 people were employed in the primary sector of the economy and about 13 enterprises were involved in this sector. 421 people were employed in the secondary sector, there were 66 enterprises in this sector. 2,060 people were employed in the service sector, of which 277 were enterprises. The municipality had 4,864 residents who were employed in certain positions, of which women made up 46.1% of the workforce.
In 2008, the total number of full-time equivalent jobs was 2,146. The number of jobs in the primary sector was 34, of which 20 were in agriculture, 11 in forestry or lumber production, and 2 in fishing or fishing. There are several types of plant formations. The most extensive is the charming plateau oak grove on clay soil, the mesophilic oak grove growing on more fertile soils in the hollows of the basins, and the hygrophilous oak-ash grove along the rivers. The beeches of the forest of the slopes fix the soil near the Old Building. Each of them is accompanied by undergrowth plants characteristic of it: molini, gue or fern, as well as shrubs, sea buckthorn, glue alder and juniper.

Children under sixteen? – SWI swissinfo.ch
Carla Urey in “Wet Areas”: “For me, this film is the story of a very lonely woman who has never known the feeling of acceptance from others.” pardolive.ch
The German film “Feuchtgebiete” (“Wet Areas”), based on the mega-bestseller of the same name by the German TV presenter Charlotte Roche, shown in Locarno, became the reason for a new round of discussions about what can be watched in the cinema “for children under 16”, and what is not.
This content was published on September 06, 2013 – 12:31
Stefania Summermatter, swissinfo.ch
David Wnendt, born 1978), like the novel itself, is built around the image of a young girl named Helen Memel. Once in a gynecological clinic, she begins – without any taboos and in all sometimes unappetizing details – to think about how the female body is arranged and functions. This role in the film was played by the Swiss actress from the canton of Ticino Carla Juri (Carla Juri, b. 1985, see interview with her below), who previously played roles almost exclusively of innocent and entertaining. Despite the sometimes shocking, and for many, simply disgusting details, both the author of the novel Charlotte Roche and director David Wnendt consider this film an example of a new approach to the concept of “cult tape” and, in general, “a bold artistic statement in the style of post-neo-feminism” .
Despite, and, most likely, thanks to the loud statement of the Facebook social network about its intention to ban its users from distributing the trailer for this film, thousands of people rushed to cinemas, among which a large proportion were young and even very young people. Which, probably, was to some extent logical, because the film and the problems discussed in it are just relevant for this particular target audience.
In the cinemas of German-speaking Switzerland, this picture was classified as a film “from 16 years old”, and even “from 14” – but, however, accompanied by an adult adult. By imposing such restrictions, the German-Swiss distributors were guided by the norms in force in Germany “FSK” (“Voluntary Self-Control of Film Distribution Business Enterprises”). There were no particular protests in the press or from the political sphere in (German-speaking) Switzerland. The situation in the “Latin” cantons looks somewhat different.

In French-speaking Switzerland, this film is not allowed to be released to cinemas at all, and in the Italian-speaking Swiss canton of Ticino, the film can only be watched by persons over 18 years of age. “This tape absolutely cannot be called, as many are trying to do, a ray of enlightening light in the dark realm of false shame. On the contrary, it is close to pornography, one has only to remember the scene of ejaculation filmed by Rapid on a piece of pizza. ..”, emphasizes Marco Baudino, chairman of the Swiss public organization Cinema and Youth (Kommission Jugend und Kino).
“Therefore, we decided not to allow this film to be viewed by minors, simply because it is disgusting, shows painfully perverted sexuality and drug use,” emphasizes M. Baudino.
Switzerland creates a commission…
Age limits for watching certain films differ depending on the country and even, as can be seen in the example of Switzerland, the region. The introduction of certain age categories depends, as a rule, on expert assessments of professional psychologists and teachers, on regional peculiarities in terms of interpreting issues of morality and ethics, and, last but not least, on the “administrative resource” of producers and distributors.
Italy and France, for example, are distinguished by greater freedom of public mores than the countries of northern Europe. Sometimes even the most explicit films here are not subject to any restrictions. In Switzerland, since January 1, 2013, the federal “Swiss Commission for the Protection of Youth in Film” (“Schweizerische Kommission Jugendschutz im Film”) has been dealing with issues of age restrictions in cinema. The only exceptions are the canton of Ticino, which refused to sign the convention on which this commission was created, and the canton of Zurich, which preferred to continue to operate on the basis of its own cantonal provisions. Being full and sovereign participants in the Swiss federal system, these subjects of the federation had the full right to do so.
The “Swiss Commission for the Protection of Youth in Cinema” was set up with the sole purpose of eliminating the widespread inconsistency that existed in Switzerland regarding the setting of age limits in cinemas. A vivid example in this case was the film “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”, which, in particular, in Geneva was allowed for children from 12 years old accompanied by adults, while in Basel the same film could be seen by children from 8 years old, but also in a company with adult escorts.
Cinematic homeland in danger?
However, there are films for which it was initially very difficult to find any common denominator. “Wet areas” certainly refers to such tapes. Discussions even started initially not around the film itself, but in connection with the decision of the German-Swiss distributors to introduce the FSK standards in force in Germany. According to Marco Baudino, there are two fundamental problems here.
“Firstly, the norms of FSK in Germany were formulated by producers, distributors and cinema owners, whose interests sometimes look very different from the interests of psychologists, social workers or parents. In addition, in Germany, all films are synchronized into German, and depending on one or another version of the synchronism, decisions on age tolerance may be different. In Switzerland, the same films can also be shown in English, in, so to speak, unkempt original form. And therefore, the formal age limit may not correspond to the real content of the picture.
Claude Ruey, chairman of Pro Cinema Schweiz, also criticized the German-speaking distributors’ decision to adopt the FSK norm quite harshly. Discussions in this area go further and at the level of the federal “Commission for the Protection of Youth” (“Jugendschutz-Kommission”), which is confirmed by the chairman of this structure, Fabrice Wulliamoz. “The results of the first 9 months (the actions of the FSK norms in Switzerland) look ambiguous so far. There is a great danger that this project will fail, even if we are convinced of its importance. Swiss distributors are now registering a trend towards a general increase in the minimum age for certain films, and they are very unhappy with this circumstance.”
Protect children…
As always, every coin has its other side. In the era of the Internet, when with two clicks of a computer mouse you can easily get much more frank images than the movie “Wet Areas”, the question involuntarily arises, how meaningful are any prohibitions and restrictions?
Psychologist Catherine Krähenbühl, also a member of the federal “Commission for the Protection of Youth”, believes that “for the very reason that there are no comparable filters in other contexts, society, for its part, must give a clear signal. Minors must be protected from images that may have a negative impact on their development; After all, they do not have the same mechanisms of analysis and mental self-defense as adults.
In Switzerland, films that deal with violence or drugs that border on pornography or are questionable from the point of view of human dignity are only allowed to be viewed from the age of 16. Absolutely “problematic” films are allowed only from the age of 18.
“What is of particular concern is not even the danger that young people will try to repeat at home or on the street what they saw in the cinema, but the fact that in many films abnormal behavior is presented in the format of the norm, that violence receives some kind of justification and even seeks to evoke positive emotions in people,” says Nathalie Guidotti, psychotherapist from Ticino, member of the cantonal commission “Cinema and Youth”.
With an educational mission
However, in all these commissions in Switzerland, people with common sense work. They understand what humor is, that violence is different from violence and that it can be shown in different ways. “In Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, for example, violence is shown as a grotesque, it is not some kind of creative constant,” says Natalie Guidotti.
“There is also violence shown in a historical context, and then even scenes that actually evoke negative emotions are fully justified, because they are the key to understanding reality,” the scientist emphasizes. Similarly, one could argue in the case of the Swiss film “L’enfant d’en haut” (literally – “Child from above”, in the German-language box office the picture was called “Winterdieb” – “The Winter Thief”) by Ursula Meier.
“A boy who steals skis from tourists could be a bad example for others,” says K. Kroenenbühl. “However, the film has a clearly defined moral message, and therefore we decided to show it “from 12 years old”. It remains to be noted that in liberal Switzerland, the number of films restricted to be shown to young audiences per year can be counted on the fingers.

However, films with scenes of pedophilia and bestiality, for example, remain absolutely prohibited, even for showing in the halls of specialized sex cinemas. “Any person who owns, buys, sells or rents such films to watch can be subject to criminal prosecution in Switzerland,” says M. Baudino. “In the movie Wet Areas, there is something close to this only in one scene, which, thank God, is not shown in full.”
Three questions for Carla Urey
Carla Urey was born and raised in Switzerland, in the canton of Ticino. Today, this talented actress is one of the main hopes of Swiss cinema.
At just 27 years old, she has already won the Swiss Quarz Film Award twice: for her lead role in the film version of the Swiss musical Eine wen iig – dr Dällebach Kari (directed by Xavier Kolller, 2012), and for Best Supporting Actor in 180 Degrees by Swiss-Turkish director Cihan Inan, 2011.
In the film “Feuchtgebiete” (Wet areas) she portrays Helen, the protagonist of Charlotte Roche’s novel of the same name.
swissinfo. ch: What would you say to the critics who consider this film “vulgar trash”?
Carla Juri: To be honest, I completely disagree with this assessment. The media, as always, snatched a couple of scenes from the film and limited themselves to them, reducing the whole picture to them in general. But if the film was really such a disgusting thing as they write, then, believe me, I would not participate in it. The way the main character Helen behaves in the film is not some kind of conscious provocation. She is a young woman who feels rejected by her parents and society, and therefore does her best to forget the pain and check the “lice” of those who are close to her. Helen sees herself as such a strange bacterium, and in that sense she behaves almost like a research scientist.
swissinfo. ch: Some of the scenes in the movie are, let’s say, quite explicit. How justified is their presence in the film?
K. Yu.: In places, the film can actually be outwardly unattractive, especially when it comes to all sorts of Helen’s bodily ailments. For me, this film is the story of a very lonely woman who has never experienced the feeling of acceptance from others. And therefore, she has a different attitude to her body, to hygiene, to the problem of external attractiveness.
swissinfo. ch: How did you prepare for this role?
K.Yu.: I started my training just from appearance. I cut my hair, joined the senior class of high school to remember how it all happens there, and no one ever guessed that I was an actress, not a graduate. That is, already at this stage, I experienced in my own skin what it means to be like Helen in the film. I had to learn to understand her pain and then manage this pain so that outwardly I look completely carefree. Yes, Helen would prefer to sleep with some idiot, but all because she is terribly afraid of being alone in bed. This happens only because of the fear of being alone, this circumstance impressed me the most in this image.

“Switzerland for All” receives daily letters with the question: “How to become a war refugee in Switzerland”? Here is the story of a Ukrainian woman who is undergoing such a procedure now.
As of April 1, according to the information of the State Secretariat for Migration SEM, 21,700 migrants from Ukraine were registered in Switzerland, more than 15,192 received S status. .5 million Ukrainians.
Tatiana came to Switzerland from Ukraine in the second half of March. Russian shelling and bombing almost destroyed her hometown. My husband drove me to Poland by car. A young woman with two children walked across the border for five hours in a crowd of the same exiles. Overnight at the gym. With volunteers on the chaise longue, she reached Zurich, where she found temporary shelter with distant relatives.
First: online application
On the very first day, Tatyana downloaded three forms “Application for granting timchasovy zakhistu (status S) to persons from Ukraine” on the website of the State Secretariat for Migration SEM. And I filled out three applications. In each, she listed all the members of her family who are now in Switzerland, namely, herself and two children. I scanned the completed forms and sent them to this email address: [email protected]
And I immediately received an answer: “Good afternoon! With pleasure I acknowledge your email. We will contact you at the next hour. With respect. State Secretariat for Migration SEM”. She printed this letter. It came in handy when Tatiana traveled around Zurich by public transport and applied for a free SIM card in one of the shops of Swisscom, a telecommunications service provider in Switzerland.
Second: on the doorstep of federal asylum
Invitation for protection status S arrived by e-mail ten days later. At the appointed time, Tatyana and her children were in front of the Federal Asylum in Zurich (Bundesasylzentrum Zürich) at the address: Duttweilerstrasse 11, 8005 Zürich. Her story follows.
Tents and fences have been set up in front of the federal shelter building in Zurich for convenience and safety. (© schwingen.net)
Tea and coffee were offered free of charge in a tent in front of the building. A little further away was a table with flyers of “Free SIM cards for Switzerland” from the telecommunications company Yallo. By that time, I had already been using Swisscom free internet for a week, followed the information on Swiss official websites, in various Telegram, WhatsApp, Facebook groups, and called Ukraine.

Iron railings form two lines along the building. For those who do not have a roof over their heads. And for people like us who came by appointment and live with relatives or friends. However, they waited no more than a minute. The shelter staff addressed us in Russian. They checked our invitations on the phone and noted something on their forms.
Third: checking documents
After that we went behind the iron fence and ended up in a tent in front of the building. There were several people sitting at a long table. Two made photocopies. The expert said that he had to check our documents for authenticity. I handed him my Ukrainian internal passport and children’s birth certificates. All documents are in Ukrainian, without translations and apostilles.
An interpreter was always nearby. I was given a memo with explanations: who can apply for S status, how to apply for it, what rights a person with S status gets in the country, what else is important for him to know in Switzerland. Also handed “Information of the Federal Police and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office for refugees from Ukraine in connection with war crimes.” Both texts were in Ukrainian.
Fourth: filling in forms
The employee put the originals of our documents, their copies and blank forms in a folder with a number and gave it to me. Further, in another part of the tent, a Russian-speaking man offered to help me fill out the forms. We sat side by side at the table, I handed him the forms that I filled out when registering online for this meeting. He transferred our data into new statements and asked questions.
As of April 1, according to SEM, 21,700 IDPs from Ukraine were registered in Switzerland, more than 15 192 received protection status S (© schwingen.net)
What are my parents’ names? What is my maiden name? What is my mother’s maiden name? Have any pets arrived with us in Switzerland? Do we have accommodation in Switzerland? Where did we live in Ukraine? Where do we currently live in Switzerland? Having completed the formalities, the center employee told me what to do next.
Fifth: prints and photos
Then we entered the building. The new employee met us almost at the door. Together we went up to the second floor. And they ended up in a corridor with a number of doors that led to various offices. We went into one of them. There were two people waiting at the table. They communicated with us in German and gestures.
They took our folder with documents. I was fingerprinted on both hands. They also took a picture of me and my two children, aged 5 and 6, using a computer. The children were not fingerprinted. And they immediately printed it out and gave us each a confirmation with a photo and an individual barcode. After that we moved on.
Sixth: interview
The folder with the documents was with me all the time. The woman in the room opposite greeted us in perfect Russian: “Hello!”. After flipping through our documents, she took a yellow form from the table and said: “Now there will be an interview. I apologize in advance if some questions seem inappropriate, but this is the procedure – you are obliged to answer my questions.
Did you take part in hostilities? Do you have citizenship other than Ukrainian? Were they judged? Are there currently any diseases that need to be treated right now?

Answer: go to the dentist and ask if someone can treat you for free.
Now, when I remember this conversation, I have the impression that the main answers were: I don’t know, it’s different in every canton. Contact your Gemeinde.
I was confused and forgot to ask: from when can you work in Switzerland?
Answer on the SEM website
https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/de/home/sem/aktuell/ukraine-krieg.html#96993415
The Confederation promotes social and professional integration in Switzerland. All people with protection status S receive social assistance from the canton – and can work without a waiting period (including self-employment). Children go to school.
SEM works with the cantons to understand the needs of those in need. Cantons may provide additional integration services. What applies in which canton? Here you will find all important information (PDF, 67 kB, 03/31/2022)
Then we went out of the room to the street. And they began to wait. There were about ten people in the tent, including new arrivals with things. The people were talking quietly to each other. We were politely offered soup-puree, bread, the children were given an apple. We were not locked in, we could freely go to the city playground, use free toilets, get coffee and tea in a tent in front of the federal shelter.
Waited more than two hours. Then a woman and a man came out of the building to us, holding a stack of blue folders. He called the numbers and handed out folders with the originals of our documents. I checked the documents, everything was in place, and none of those waiting complained that something was wrong. With this folder, we went to our temporary residence in Zurich.
Waiting for S status, learning German, looking for friends, more suitable housing, work. And most importantly, we are waiting for the war to end and it will be possible to return to Ukraine.
