Lucy worked with us July 2017 to July 2021 to care for our two daughters, now 2 and 5 years old. She took care of our 1st daughter since she was 8 months old and our 2nd daughter since birth. Lucy was great with them. We never worried about their safety or happiness. Whether she was taking them fora walk, to the park, a class, or library, they were in good hands. She was always engaged with them, playing games, and teaching them different things. Lucy was great about maintaining a schedule/routine for the kids. She was NEVER late. We would work long days or travel last minute, and she made herself available for both extended and overnight care as needed. Lucy was hired to just take care of the girls, so we didn’t ask her to do any housework, but she did cook for them when we didn’t have something prepared and she helped with their laundry. We would 100% hire Lucy again, and we only parted ways because we moved out of state. Lucy will always be be part of our family!…

Ava W.

Ava is absolutely wonderful! We were a bit hesitant with trying to find a babysitter for our 15 month old daughter A but we are so incredibly pleased and thankful that we found Ava to fill that first babysitter spot! Ava is on time, easy to communicate with and A. lights up when she sees Mrs. Avapull up to our home! She plays inside and outside with A. and while playing she finds all sorts of teachable moments which is so great! And Ava definitely gets bonus points for being awesome with our 18 year old Maltipoo Lilly-definitely our other “child” these days! Ha ha We are so grateful for Ava and are looking forward to having her help out more and more as A. keeps growing up!…

Del Ray, Alexandria VA Preschool – The Nest Academy Learning Preschool

Alexandria VA Preschool

  • Infant Daycare/Nursery School
  • Toddler Program
  • Preschool

has successfully managed to become one of the best preschools/day care centers in Del Ray area and beyond. We offer to the children an amazing playing and learning experience, and to the parents – peace of mind that their kids are in good hands.

What Parents Say About The Nest Academy Learning Preschool

Family owned, our first preschool was established in 1999 in Lorton VA. The second location was opened in Del Ray, Alexandria VA 15 years later. For the past 17 years, The Nest Academy Learning Preschool has been developing and successfully implementing a great early childhood education program that prepares our children for a successful future.

Del Ray Infant Daycare/Nursery School

Are you anxious about separating with your newborn for the first time? Our Del Ray preschool/daycare center provides a safe and nurturing environment in which each baby can happily grow and develop. We do our best to keep the necessary balance of teachers-lead learning time and self-discovery time. Here our youngest children are being taken care of with the utmost warmth and patience.

Some of the features of our Infant Program:

  • We are childcare providers who believe that communication with parents of our children is very important. Every child is unique and has his or her own schedule and needs. While most of our infants eat and sleep on demand, we strive to follow parent’s instructions about each baby’s individual schedule.
  • We takes care of our babies in a way, which fosters their sense of trust. We make sure that their needs are promptly met by our warm and caring stuff. We hold them, play with them, rock them, talk to them,  and soothe them by using calm voice and gentle touch.
  • Our infant daycare in Del Ray, Alexandria VA, offers experiences that lead to physical, emotional and cognitive development of our infants, like letting them play with age-appropriate toys, exercising them by adding tummy time and sit with support, or providing outdoor time.
  • We encourage development of our babies’ language skills. Our wonderful teachers sing, read and talk to them throughout the day.
Del Ray

Toddler Program

Your child is becoming an independent learner. He or she explores the environment using emerging physical and intellectual abilities. Our preschool strategy is to be there for your child, to offer our help when it’s needed and to encourage his or her curiosity and enthusiasm.

The Toddler Program of our preschool in Del Ray, Alexandria VA, includes:

  • Introducing children to a more structured day, as they follow their daily schedule to prepare them for a preschool.
  • Helping our toddlers to become independent, self-confident and well-balanced. Our Toddler Program encourages the development of self-help skill, like being able to dress up for outdoor time, clean up after the play or manipulate spoons.
  • Providing a language-rich environment in which children learn how to communicate. Our preschool teachers continue singing and reading a lot to the children, and start teaching them the vocabulary necessary for expressing their feelings or desires.
  • Providing teacher lead group activities and self-directed play. We play with the children inside of their classrooms as well as at our secure and necessary equipped playground.
  • Encouraging development of positive social skills. At this age children tend to play not with each other, but next to each other. It doesn’t mean that they do not appreciate each other’s company. The teachers of our preschool make sure that each child feels that he or she belongs to the group.
  • Introducing sensory and art activities, music, construction and science exploration.
  • Helping development of fine motor skills and gross motor skills, as well as hand-eye coordination by providing age appropriate activities and games.
  • Developing children’s self-esteem and confidence by showing them respect and ensuring that their feelings are valued, yet assorting teacher authority by providing structure and borders to maintain healthy growth and development of our toddlers

Del Ray Preschool Program

Del Ray, Alexandria VA, Preschool program gives importance to individual abilities of our children and their needs.  We do not expect all our children to have the same level of development of the physical, mental and emotional abilities. Every child is growing and learning at his or her own pace. We never push our preschoolers to do something they don’t like or not ready for yet. Our preschool simply encourage and motivate them in every aspect of their learning processes.

Besides our carefully studied program, here are few examples of a different way we approach our goals of the Preschool Program:

  • We put a lot of effort in helping kids to feel safe and loved when they are away from parents. It is especially important during the adaptation period
  • All the preschool activities are encouraging kids to not only learn and play, but to socialize within the group
  • We help our children to find creative uses for materials and let them create at their own pace
  • The Staff members of our preschool recognize the importance of the following aspects when identifying creativity in children:

o All children are creative to some degree
o Some are more creative in one area than other areas

  • It is important to welcome and appreciate the creative act and the child who expresses it
  • Our preschool encourages children to develop the habit of exercising every morning by doing it in-group right before circle time. That helps all children unify and feel all like one body
  • We provide sign language and two second language fun courses at no extra cost:

o French every Wednesday
o Spanish every Friday

Our Del Ray preschool strongly believes that the success of our program is based on establishing a mutual partnership between our staff members and parents. Besides our yearly parent/teacher conferences we schedule twice during the year, we welcome parents to communicate with the teachers as much as they can.

Child Care FAQs

The national typical hourly rate in 2022 is $20. 00 per hour for nannies and $17.50 for babysitters. Rates can vary based on the child care provider’s experience, certifications, employment status, and travel expenses. When calculating the cost of child care, you should also account for the number of children they’ll care for and additional responsibilities like household tasks or homework help. Learn more about how to set competitive rates for attracting the best babysitters.

The best way to find child care near you is to post a job detailing your needs on Sittercity, which will be shared with our community of available babysitters and nannies. We’ll notify you when child care providers apply to your job, and from there you can proceed with interviews, background checks, and reference checks so you can find the perfect fit for your family.

You can find experienced and passionate child care providers near you to provide the best care for your child, either in-home or virtually. Child care providers can help families with managing strict schedules, transportation to activities, homework help, last-minute coverage, date nights, and more. Whether you’re looking for full-time, part-time, live-in, or temporary care, you can count on Sittercity for finding passionate and experienced child care providers.

Families find trustworthy child care providers on Sittercity who are passionate about providing safe and enriching care for their children. Many providers report they are First Aid and CPR certified to provide the best care for your family. Babysitters and nannies have the option to complete regular background checks, and you can easily request a recent background check if they don’t have one or it is not recent. Families can also request to see professional references!

Our dedicated team also champions safety across our platform every day. Child care providers go through an identity verification process Berbix when registering an account. Some additional safety measures include Family Watchdog screening, babysitter and nanny reviews, and secure messaging.

Nannies and babysitters share the same primary responsibility of providing safe and enriching care for your child, but there are a few differences between them. Nannies are more commonly associated with regular work, whether full or part-time, offering daily or consistent care to a particular family. There are also several different types of nannies, including au pairs, house managers, doulas, live-in, and overnight nannies.

Babysitters, on the other hand, are typically hired for irregular or occasional work, either full or part-time. If you’re looking for last-minute care for date night, or the occasional few hours after school, a babysitter is a great best option.

Identifying the type and frequency of child care you’ll need is the best way to decide whether a babysitter or nanny is a better fit for your family.

Child care providers on Sittercity love providing enriching experiences for your children, and sharing their passions with them. They’re happy to participate in outdoor activities like sports, or indoor activities like music, baking, tutoring help, and art. Wherever your child’s interests lie, child care providers on Sittercity can engage them in a nurturing way.

About

The Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC) at Pozez JCC-Beth EL is a nurturing, safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment, which is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to education. Our curriculum incorporates Jewish values while being universally inclusive. We believe that every child is capable, competent, and has the right to be respected as an individual. Our philosophy is based upon the belief that we have the ability and responsibility to nurture each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth through interactions and experiences that foster a zest for life and a love of learning. We offer a child-centered program which is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach. We believe that “care” and “education” are inseparable and view each child as a feeling, thinking, and creative individual whose growth we nourish. We believe a child’s positive self-esteem is paramount to emotional, social, physical, and intellectual development.

The daily environment we create for our children must provide them with all the components necessary for positive growth and development. We are committed to supporting the parents/guardians of our children by providing a variety of quality services and developing positive relationships between home and school.

Our Philosophy of Learning

The ECLC strives to help each child grow as an individual. We emphasize the development of self-confidence and a positive self-image. Our activities provide experiences to foster social skills and emotional maturity, as well as promote and strengthen cognitive and physical growth.

Our teaching philosophy follows a Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy that is based on the following ideas:

  • Children have a say over the direction of their learning
  • Children are able to learn through hands-on learning experiences
  • Children have a relationship with other children and material items to explore
  • Children have endless ways and opportunities for creative thinking
  • Our philosophy involves an emergent curriculum that builds on the interests of the children.

Educators serve as resources to, and researchers of, the learning process by asking thought-provoking questions, creating inviting classroom environments and documenting the children’s work for reflection and communication purposes.

JCCA Sheva Early Learning Framework

An integral part of the program is building a foundation for a positive Jewish identity. This Framework is a basis for the continued education of the children in our program which builds upon the foundations already in place through the Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy.

Core principles include:

1. Children as Constructivist Learners: Kavod (respect) for each child’s ability to think for himself/herself

2. Early Childhood Directors as Visionaries: Our professional staff has the chochma (wisdom) to make sound decisions for their population

3. Early Childhood Educators as ProfessionalsOur Educators develop ahavat limud (love of learning) for themselves and their students

4.  Families as Engaged Partners: Opportunities are provided throughout the year to build kehillah (community) between our families and staff

5. Discover Coordinated Approach to Childhood Health (CATCH): Emphasis on the Jewish value of sh’mirat ha’guf (taking care of our bodies) through nutrition and exercise

6. Israel as the Story of the Jewish People: Further learning about Israel to educate our students and their families about the story of the Jewish people

7. Environments as Inspiration for Inquiry: The concept of the environment as inspiration for inquiry — spaces are intentionally designed to encourage curiosity, intellectual engagement, and creativity
