Twin cities of Stavropol: a story of friendship
Friendship is different: strong and not very strong, disinterested and based on profit, between people and between entire cities. “Friends” and our Stavropol: today he has six sister cities.
Friendship with Temuco began on the eve of the Chilean presidential elections to be held in 1970.
Then the inhabitants of Chile demanded radical changes in power, socialism.
The first visit, during which sister city agreements were concluded, was paid by the Stavropol delegation. Representatives of Temuco visited Stavropol only a year later. After the coup d’état in Chile, relations between the cities were interrupted.
The first sister city, with which relations continue to this day, was Pazardzhik, a southern Bulgarian town with a population of 80,000 people.
For many years students, builders, journalists from Bulgaria came to Stavropol. Dance ensembles and a children’s choir came to our city with concerts. Pazardzhik, in turn, was visited by Stavropol creative teams. Books, collections of poems, newspapers were translated into Russian and Bulgarian, joint publications were created. Schoolchildren and students trained in Bulgaria. However, over the past few years, only the Stavropol gymnasium and the Pazardzhik school named after A.
G. Bregov.
Another sister city of Stavropol is Beziers. It is one of the oldest cities in France and is known as the “capital of French wine”. The population of Beziers is slightly more than 70 thousand people. For such a small city, it has a lot of educational institutions – 6 colleges and 5 lyceums.
Doctors from Stavropol traveled to the French city to get acquainted with the local healthcare system, kindergarten teachers – to see how preschool education works in France. The performances of the Stavropol Drama Theater, as well as the works of the artists Grechishkin, Parshin and Kuznetsov, went on tour to the sister city. The list of sister cities of Stavropol also includes the American city of Des Moines, the capital of the state of Iowa. This is a city with a powerful food and canning industry, the largest in the state.
Des Moines has a thriving agricultural and construction equipment manufacturing and insurance business. After signing the partnership agreement, it was decided to exchange the experience of local self-government bodies, best practices in the field of public utilities, transport and housing construction. And in Des Moines, the heads of educational institutions of Stavropol were trained. In accordance with the cooperation plan, Stavropol high school students went to study at schools and the private University of Des Moines.
China’s Zhenjiang, China’s sister city, is a city that is actively developing silk processing, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, food processing and traditional handicrafts such as silk painting, jade products and colored lanterns. It is one of the leading cities in the province in terms of investment growth, the use of foreign capital and the development of the service sector. The total area of the city is 3,847 sq.
km, the population is 3.13 million people.
After the signing of the agreement between the partners, the parties entered into several agreements: on the construction of a joint Chinese-Russian enterprise for the production of solar panels in Stavropol, as well as on the exchange of information on the introduction of the latest technologies in the field of solar energy and photovoltaics.

The next in the list of Stavropol sister cities, Yerevan, was founded in 782 BC. The population of the capital of Armenia is more than a million people.
When signing the twinning agreement, it was assumed that relations would be based on the exchange of experience in various areas of the city economy and in the field of local government.
However, at the moment, cooperation between cities is not developing very actively.
Another twin from China is the “dragon city” of Changzhou. It is famous for its cultural and religious monuments, including the world’s tallest Buddhist pagoda, as well as for its vibrant modern architecture, symbolized by the Lotus building. In addition, there is a plant for the production of aluminum paste for solar energy in Changzhou, the founder of which is Monocrystal-Stavropol.
In 2014, during the visit, which ended with the signing of a twinning agreement, the Chinese delegation visited educational institutions and industrial enterprises. The cities intend to cooperate in the humanitarian, cultural and economic spheres.

DELEGATION FROM Sister City Des Moines
On June 30, a delegation from sister city Des Moines, Iowa, USA visited the gymnasium. Friendly relations with the Walnut Street School were established seven years ago when a delegation from a partner school visited our gymnasium for the first time. A delegation from the high school visited Des Moines in 2012. Today’s meeting is a meeting of good friends. The students of the gymnasium and the teachers discussed a number of questions about further cooperation, providing for the development of relations between the schools of Des Moines and Stavropol, the exchange of delegations, and participation in joint projects.
The guests were pleasantly surprised by the changes that have taken place in the gymnasium since their previous visit.
As part of international cooperation, on October 2, 2015, a delegation of Chinese schoolchildren and teachers from Zhenjiang School No. 3 arrived in Stavropol. This is the second visit of schoolchildren from China to Stavropol. The partnership between the school and the gymnasium was established 3 years ago. The visit lasted 3 days and left an unforgettable impression on both the representatives of the host country and the Chinese friends.
During the visit, events were held for the Chinese guests according to the approved program of stay. Guests from Zhenjiang took part in the performance “Library Night in NCFU”, learned Russian words during the master class “This funny Russian language”, made a virtual tour of Stavropol and the North Caucasus.
Guests and students of the gymnasium took part in the photo contest “Native City through the Eyes of Children”. Photographs of the most romantic and beautiful places in Stavropol were presented to the exhibition by students of the gymnasium D. Yarboldiyeva, O. Cherkasova, N. Onezhko, V. Arzumanova. They were able to see the versatile talents of high school students at a concert, English and Chinese lessons, and sports competitions.
The students’ direct communication allowed them to get to know each other better, to understand that Chinese and Russian students have a lot in common. At meetings with the head of the delegation, Mr. Wen Jun and teachers Zhao Wenlei and Hou Xin, issues of further cooperation between partner schools were discussed. The main attention is paid to the discussion of further exchanges of students and teachers between schools. The students of the gymnasium received an invitation to pay a return visit to Zhenjiang.

From October 2 to October 5, 2014, a delegation of Chinese schoolchildren and teachers from secondary school No.
3 of Zhenjiang, invited by the administration of MBOU gymnasium No. 24, was in Stavropol in the framework of mutual cooperation. The cooperation agreement was signed during the visit of the delegation of the gymnasium to the city of Zhenjiang in March 2014.
The delegation included 8 best students of the school, winners of subject Olympiads and international music competitions.
During the visit, events were held for the Chinese guests according to the approved program of stay. The pupils of the gymnasium received their Chinese peers who came to Russia for the first time with great joy and warmth. Chinese students took an active part in a joint concert with the schoolchildren, talked with them within the framework of a round table, attended Chinese and English lessons, and were able to make a souvenir – a nested doll on their own. During their stay in Stavropol, the delegation visited an art school, the Stavropol City Palace of Children’s Art, the Stavropol State Museum-Reserve named after.

The direct communication of the students made it possible to get to know each other better, to understand that there is a lot in common between Chinese and Russian students. China trip report
On March 25, the Moscow-Shanghai plane landed at 09:45 at Pudong International Airport. Our group was met by a representative of the international relations department of the Zhenjiang City Hall and a representative of the Shanghai Society for Friendship with Foreigners.
We were taken to the railway station and, accompanied by a representative from Zhenjiang, we went to the sister city.
One of the points of the Zhenjiang visit was a visit to Jiangsu University, which is one of the top 100 universities in China. A tour of the university was conducted and a Chinese lesson was organized. Children were happy to repeat the words after the teacher and performed various tasks. A Chinese calligraphy lesson was also held, where students were taught to draw the hieroglyph “happiness”. After the university, the delegation was invited to dinner by representatives of the international relations department of the Zhenjiang City Hall. The dinner was held in a friendly atmosphere, the directions of interaction between the two sister cities, plans for the future in relation to cooperation between schools were discussed.
The next day, accompanied by a representative of the International Relations Department of the Zhenjiang City Hall, a group of students and teachers from Stavropol went to the secondary school No.
3 of Zhenjiang to sign the Agreement on establishing twinning relations between educational partner institutions. We were very warmly received by our Chinese colleagues. There was a tour of the school, we attended a Chinese lesson in the 6th grade, attended the lessons of choral singing, labor, drawing. We have prepared a presentation in Chinese about the school. After its presentation, the signing of the Agreement on the establishment of sister city relations between the gymnasium No. 24 of the city of Stavropol and the secondary school No. 3 of the city of Zhenjiang took place.
The principal of the school invited the group to lunch, after which they had a tour of the city museum. Then, accompanied by a specialist from the mayor’s office of the sister city of Zhenjiang, a group of students and teachers from the city of Stavropol went to the city of Shanghai.
On March 27, the Shanghai Society for Friendship with Foreigners organized a meeting for us with students of the school at the Shanghai University of Foreign Languages who are studying Russian.
The principal of the school met with us to welcome and discuss our stay. Russian language students prepared a friendship evening, during which the students had the opportunity to demonstrate their talents in foreign and native languages, as well as to talk in an informal setting. After that, the delegation was invited to dinner with the head of the Shanghai Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries. During this dinner, the children shared their impressions of the city of Shanghai and Chinese culture, and the head of the Shanghai Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries emphasized the importance of interaction between our countries, cultural exchange, in particular at the level of school education. In addition to the business program, a rich excursion program was also planned for our delegation. We visited the TV tower “Pearl of the East”, the second highest in Asia, the fourth in the world. On March 30, the group flew to Moscow.

and Nazarkov A.A. visited the city of Des Moines, USA with a return visit at the invitation of the headmaster Craig Liger. The trip was very eventful and interesting. Teachers brought gifts, drawings, crafts from the students of the gymnasium to the partner school of Walnut Street School. The delegation from Stavropol was met very warmly and cordially. Children, teachers, representatives of the Sister Cities Committee were keenly interested in discussing plans for further cooperation. During the meetings, an agreement was reached on cooperation with the Merrill Middle School. Now students and high schools will be able to communicate with peers across the ocean. Elementary school partnerships with Walnut Street School will also continue.

An important and long-awaited event took place in our gymnasium on July 2, 2009.
Representative of the City Council of Des Moines, Iowa, USA Weidel Spain visited our city. The program of Mr. Spain’s visit included a visit to educational institutions of the city to establish contacts between the schools of sister cities. Mr. W. Spain brought with him letters from the 3rd grade students of Walnut Street School, to which the students of the gymnasium responded.
We had to wait a long time for an answer. And so, on October 15th, we received an email from the principal, Mr. Craig R. Liger. The Walnut Street school team supports our cooperation proposals, which include teleconferences, teacher and student exchanges. It was decided that communication and cooperation of students of the same age was advisable, so the English teachers suggested acquaintance through correspondence between students of the 3A grade of the gymnasium and students of the 3rd grade of Des Moines elementary school. State History
Several millennia ago, Indian tribes lived in Iowa: the Santee, the Aoiwa, and the Yanktons.
