Severity Levels

High:

Note on Frequency of Inspections

Centers, Group Homes, and Licensed Family Homes::

In 2014, legislation was passed that changed the number of unannounced visits from two per year to one per year in Child Care Centers, Group Child Care Homes, and Licensed Family Child Care Homes. As a result of this new law, you may see a decrease in the number of deficiencies listed on this website for these types of providers. Unannounced visits are still made in response to a complaint, and visits are scheduled with the facility during the re-licensing process, which occurs every two years.

Registered Family Homes:

Most family homes are registered, not licensed. In 2014, legislation was passed that allows Child Care Licensing to make one unannounced visit to these homes each year. As a result of this new law, you may see an increase in the number of deficiencies listed on this website for Registered Family Child Care Homes. Unannounced visits are still made in response to a complaint. Click here for an overview of each facility and the requirements they must meet according to state law.

Description:

Hello, my name is Terri and I am a Teacher-Nanny. I can offer extensive experience and diverse professional background enables me to make a significant difference for you and your child. I am highly skilled incaring for children of all age ranges, infants, twins, and children with special needs. This includes feeding, setting up the formula, diaper changing, and potty training. I enjoy reading and playing games with children as well as going on outings, adventures, or field trips.
Moreover, I am well trained in managing meals, nap, day-to-day activities, and following schedules. My ability to instruct children on personal hygiene, social development, and age-appropriate education would bring a positive change to their development. I also possess strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as an enthusiasm for teaching, doing arts and crafts, dancing to music, and dramatic play. In my small, intimate setting, I will not only nurture and care for your child but teach your child on an age-appropriate level while honing all their fine motor, gross motor, and cognitive skills that they will need to succeed in preschool.
I am an educator first, so I will incorporate lesson plans, Montessori curriculums, and day to day activities to help hone your child’s education and development. Furthermore, my degree is in Medical Assisting and I am certified in both First Aid and CPR.
Why select a Teacher-Nanny Share?
A shared nanny is a happy medium between traditional nanny care and daycare. With fewer kids than at a daycare center, your child is more likely to get individual attention, which some experts say is especially important for babies.
An infant/toddler will benefit from the interaction with other children if she’s sharing a caregiver with others. One-on-One shared care helps children form a bond similar to that of siblings and learn socialization skills. It will also be a good introduction to a preschool setting without the hassles.
Lastly, another great thing about a small environment nanny setting is that your child is not around as many kids and may not get sick as often as they would in a daycare center. (Though some germ-sharing is inevitable any time children get together.)
Within this Teacher-Nanny Share, I am opening my doors to three little ones between the ages of 3 months-6 months where I will create a positive environment that promotes social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. My resume is available upon request….

Myname is Carrie and I have worked as a childcare professional for 26 years. I began as a staffer in a daycare center in 1995. I moved on and started my first home daycare as a provider for the USAF in Clovis, NM. After relocating back to VA in 2002, I took a position as an Asst. Director; and eventually was promoted to center director for two nationally recognized childcare centers.
After the birth of my son, I decided to re-open my home daycare where I could use my corporate, military, and life experience in an intimate childcare setting. The results have been amazing as I have successfully transitioned 31 children from infant to Kindergarten readiness in my 16 years of Prince William County Service. Additionally, I strive to understand my family’s needs and work very hard to provide care that is beneficial to my families. Being a mother of 6 myself (ages 11-27 yrs), I have observed firsthand how instruction, reinforcement, and love can have an astounding impact on a child’s life.

Description:

I am prior military and understand the importance of having reliable and quality care for your children. I am a mother of four, ages 23, 19, 13, and 11. My family and I have been in the Stafford, Virginia areasince 2012. We are CPR/ First Aid certified. We provide services for infants and children, ages 6 weeks-12 years old, I tailor my program to fit each child’s individual needs. There is a routine we follow on a daily basis; I provided breakfast, a.m. snack, lunch, and p.m. snack. I love kids and love having them in my home. I have excellent references upon request.
Philosophy
My family daycare home provides a developmentally based program in an environment designed especially for young children.
We work to develop caring, respectful, and responsive relationships with children from infancy though preschool by partnering with families to support a child s growth and development.
Respect for each child s individualized pattern and timing of growth, as well as individual personality, learning style, interests, culture, logic and family background are central to the fabric of daily interactions and the direction of the curriculum follows.
We support each child s disposition to learn while (1) facilitating it s learning and (2) fostering competencies in all domains, including intellectual, physical, social and emotional development.
We value the interaction between the individual and environment, seeing it as the basis for more complex learning and growth. Children come to own a newfound understanding and knowledge when it is integrated into their daily experiences and existing paradigms in active and meaningful ways. This social constructivist philosophy forms the basis for our curriculum and our emphasis on all aspects of the environment.
The schedule and space is structured to allow children to pace themselves and select activities based on their individual needs. Knowledge is not given to children; they learn through playful and meaningful interactions with materials and people. This means that each child processes experiences uniquely.
Mission
The mission of LAUGH N LEARN DAYCARE is to provide comprehensive childcare for children and families. The basic service that we administer is the care and education of children from ages two to four years. Within this care we offer teaching in all subjects from math to phonics, a safe environment and a positive, encouraging atmosphere for children to be in while the parents/guardians are away….

Home Day Cares in the Triangle area

There are many factors when deciding the best type of care that your child needs. For many parents, it ultimately comes down to a decision between a commercial day care center vs an in-home day care. Some parents prefer an in-home child care for it’s homey setting or proximity to home or smaller caregiver-to-child ratio. While some parents prefer a commercial day care for it’s reliability, age-appropriate learning groups.

If you are looking for a licensed home day care for your child, Triangle area has plenty of options. You can also check for home day cares using the NCDHHS link here. Verify the license, description and non-compliances using the above link.

What is the Karpman triangle and how to get out of it at work

Relationships with colleagues can develop in the same way as relationships with relatives or a partner. One such scheme is the Karpman triangle. Understanding what it is and how to get out of it

What is the Karpman triangle

The Karpman triangle is a model of co-dependent relationships in which three people participate: the Persecutor, the Victim and the Rescuer. Each of them plays a specific role. The Persecutor attacks, controls and dominates the Victim; The victim suffers and blames circumstances and other people for his condition; The Rescuer protects the Victim, thereby convincing him that he cannot solve the problem on his own. It is very difficult to get out of such relationships, because the participants themselves involuntarily reproduce this pattern and often do not really seek to get rid of it.

Photo: D. Shustov, Guide to Clinical Transactional Analysis

The rules by which this model works were formulated by the American psychiatrist Stephen Karpman in 1968. He called it “Drama Triangle”. On its peaks are the Persecutor and the Rescuer, hanging over the Victim. At the same time, the participants are in fact neither victims, nor persecutors, nor rescuers. But once having chosen this scenario (consciously or unconsciously), they continue to play the chosen roles, although they could resolve the conflict and get out of the uncomfortable situation.

In creating the model, Karpman relied on the ideas of his teacher Eric Bern, the author of transactional analysis in psychotherapy. This approach suggests that the basis of all human communication is the game. Drama Triangle is one such game.

What is the danger of falling into a triangle

The trap of this model is that each participant cares about his position in his own way. The characters don’t work to resolve the conflict because they’re benefiting from it and don’t want to leave the game. For example, at first glance it is difficult to see what bonuses the Victim receives. But in fact, this role allows a person not to be responsible for his life and, moreover, always guarantees the support of the Savior.

Other roles in the triangle also have benefits. The pursuer watches with gusto as the confirmation of his strength through absolute control and aggression. The Rescuer regularly nurtures self-worth by investing more and more energy in the Victim and binding him more strongly to himself.

It is easy to see that none of these roles seeks to solve the problem, allowing the vortex of conflict to unwind further, dragging it out to infinity. This is the main danger of the dramatic triangle.

Where dramatic triangles form

The Karpman model can manifest itself—and sometimes last for years—in any type of relationship, from romantic to working. In families, one can often observe the Persecutor parent, who brings up the Victim child in exceptional severity and scolds him for any misconduct, and the Rescuer parent, who always takes the side of the child and criticizes the partner. In pairs, three roles can be distributed between two people, and this “game” sometimes unfolds within one hour, for example, in a quarrel. One partner feels slighted and complains to the other, but he, after a hard day, instead of comforting, accuses the first of being too sensitive. The conflict deepens, the Persecutor repents, and reincarnates into the Savior – and so on ad infinitum.

Roles in the Karpman triangle

Let’s take a closer look at the actors of the triangle and their positions in the conflict:

  • Victim. Position – “poor me!” The victim sees himself as oppressed, powerless and helpless. She denies any responsibility for the negative circumstances of her life and passively waits for a rescuer – or even actively seeks one, just so as not to take on the decision. People in this role tend to think that others are more fortunate, blame their problems on circumstances, and complain about the lack of acceptance by others.
  • Pursuer. Attitude – “it’s all your fault!” The Persecutor criticizes and blames the Victim, making her feel oppressed by threats and bullying. Persecutors cling to a sense of control and power, proving their importance to themselves and the world without really solving any problems.
  • Lifeguard. Attitude – “Let me save you!” The rescuer stubbornly spends his own energy on “saving” other people, finding an outlet in this activity. Every Savior needs a Victim who will accept his altruism. He is driven, first of all, by his own ego, which is fueled by a sense of significance and superiority over the Victim. He is interested in the Victim remaining helpless, because then it will be possible to save her forever and feel his value. Rescue should not be confused with real help, which is targeted and on request.

The drama triangle is not static, inside it seethes and the conflict develops. One and the same person at different moments can act in all three hypostases. Deciding to take revenge, the Victim can become the Persecutor, and the Rescuer can take the position of the Victim when it seems to him that the one he was saving is not grateful enough to him. Karpman himself states that “drama begins when the roles are defined and develops as long as the role reversal occurs.”

To explain the operation of his model, Karpman cited the story of Little Red Riding Hood as an example. In it, the heroine begins in the role of the Rescuer: she sets off on a mission to deliver food to a sick grandmother. In the course of the story, she meets the Wolf and decides to “save” the beast from loneliness. In a conversation, she accidentally reveals where her grandmother lives. Further, Little Red Riding Hood becomes the Wolf’s Victim, who transforms into the Chaser. In this role, he eats his grandmother, and then the main character herself. On this, it would seem, the fairy tale (as well as the conflict) should end. But here comes a new Chaser – the Woodcutter. He rips open the wolf’s belly and frees Little Red Riding Hood and Granny. The wolf turns into the Victim. In the finale, the surviving Little Red Riding Hood is revealed to be the Chaser and takes revenge on the wounded Wolf by stuffing his stomach with rocks.

How the Karpman Triangle arises in working relationships

Working relationships are built around collaborative projects. But this does not mean that work communication is free from emotions, projections, resentment and misunderstanding. According to psychologist and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapist Elizaveta Muratova, “we cannot come to work with pure functionality and, one way or another, we carry our own personality and personal needs there. ” In the absence of proper control, you can imperceptibly find yourself in a situation with typical signs of a dramatic triangle. Here are some examples:

  • The boss regularly requires his subordinate to stay late at work. The employee suffers from this and thinks about dismissal. He is supported by a colleague from the accounting department, who readily listens to his complaints and treats him to tea. The obvious Persecutor here is the boss who oppresses the Victim employee when he cannot get out of an unpleasant situation and finds solace in the Rescuer. But perhaps things are not so clear cut. With a kind word, the colleague encourages the employee to accept the situation as a given, not allowing him to resist the boss. And at the same time is fixed in the role of the Savior. It begins to seem to the boss that the eternally dissatisfied employee spends too much time complaining and drinking tea. And he continues to “punish” him, forcing him to work longer.
  • One of the employees gets divorced, comes to work drooping, works without enthusiasm, drinks after work and is late in the morning. Colleagues see him as a Victim, sympathize with him and intercept part of his work duties. As a result, he has even more time to immerse himself in his state. This behavior of colleagues is a typical rescue. It rather helps the Victim to drown than to get out of the crisis period. In addition, co-workers who take on extra work also run the risk of starting to burn out.
  • A person has difficulties outside the office: for example, having problems with housing or having to take care of a sick relative. It is emotionally difficult, and a person wants to at least in work relieve himself of responsibility and take the position of a Victim. The boss enters the position and makes him concessions – he becomes the Rescuer. But the tasks themselves do not go away, they have to be performed by colleagues who are not happy with such a combination of circumstances. They are angry with the Victim, and a conflict arises, where they play the role of the Persecutor.

These examples show how easy it is to become part of the Karpman triangle. According to Elizaveta Muratova, people enter into social games, seeing in this “the simplest way of interaction.” Such games are resorted to when there is no strength or desire to look for an effective solution.

How to get out of the Karpman triangle

Elizaveta Muratova says that if at work you suddenly feel that you correspond to one of the roles of the dramatic triangle, then this is a signal to spend audit of their tasks – functional and emotional.

  • Functional tasks are tasks that can be written in a diary: prepare a report, meet with business partners, formulate a concept for a new product.
  • Emotional tasks are attempts to obtain non-material values. For example, to achieve the approval of the head or to increase their status in the work hierarchy.

In the drama triangle, people solve precisely emotional problems. And if you stay in it for a long time, there is a risk of wasting time on conflict, and not on work. For example, an employee believes that he deserves a promotion, but it is not expected yet. From time to time, he breaks down to criticism of the leadership and decides to work half-heartedly, thinking that this sends a signal of his discontent. Instead, he could have asked to meet with his manager and discuss career prospects. Another example is that the leaders of competing departments spend so much energy vying for the location of the company’s CEO that they lose sight of the processes within their teams. A reasonable decision would be to reduce the intensity of the struggle and focus on improving the real performance of the department. Elizaveta Muratova notes that, ultimately, squabbles in the team have a negative impact on the overall profit of the company.

In addition to auditing tasks, it is important to assess the appropriateness of the expectations that a person “carries” to work. For example, the role of the Workaholic Victim is often taken on by people who lack recognition in other areas of life. Subconsciously, they expect praise from colleagues, because they see them as “parents”. Here it is worth considering that, perhaps, tasks that are more effectively solved in personal relationships, for example, in friendly support, have crept into work processes. Great luck and a bonus for employees when a manager understands how the psyche of people works and gives his employees positive feedback for the results. But the degree of empathy each manager has is individual, so tying your need for approval to regular boss praise is simply not safe.

The feeling of self-importance is another need that is sometimes not met. This happens when a person with such a need, instead of becoming, for example, a doctor and treating people, as he always dreamed of, takes a different career path. As a result, he daily experiences the frustration of being out of place, drawing colleagues into the maelstrom of his experiences. It is also worth stopping here and understanding what can be changed.

In addition, Elizaveta Muratova advises:

  • Understand what role you play in the drama triangle and decide if you want to play it. It is possible to get out of the triangle from any position, the role of the Victim in it is not equivalent to the position of the hostage – like the other two. You can also refuse imposed roles: if the Victim has noticed a candidate for the role of his Rescuer, he is not obliged to follow her lead.
  • Learn to take responsibility for your decisions – whether it be the decision to leave or continue to work in this company and with these colleagues. For example, if an employee is in poor health, the responsibility for the medical consequences of overtime lies with him, and not his supervisor. He has the right to refuse or change jobs – to act proactively.
  • Analyze whether there is overload in other areas of life and whether the desire to be a victim or an aggressor comes from there.
  • In a leadership position – monitor the even distribution of responsibility in the team and remember that problems are solved in dialogue, and innuendo aggravates the conflict.

The applicability of the Karpman triangle

Elizaveta Muratova notes that the Karpman triangle is a concept from popular psychology, which clinical psychologists treat with some skepticism. According to her, the drama triangle is just one of the models in transactional analysis, and not a universal illustration of human communications in moments of crisis. It can show up brightly in one case, and not show up at all in another. In the Karpman triangle, due to its dynamic nature, it is difficult to fix the roles and work with these data within the framework of professional psychological assistance.

But don’t underestimate the usefulness of this concept. For non-professionals, it can become a simplified model that allows you to detect unconstructive behavior and make adjustments to improve the quality of life.

A group of young people are caught in a storm in the ocean. After the crash, they are picked up by a giant liner. But it’s empty, and one of the girls has been here before…
The tie is as simple as three kopecks. However, nothing supernatural was expected. Pretty good shots, beautiful views, gorgeous crash scene. True, the explicit enumeration of computer graphics spoils the whole impression. However, soon you stop paying attention to it, because the action itself begins. The film hardly fits into the “thriller” category: there is no special atmosphere, action, the soundtrack is very ragged. The acting does not shine, to put it mildly. There are some gaps, but nothing more.
The very idea is completely lost after the first hour. Why the heroine suddenly decides that it is in this way that she can return is not at all clear.
At the same time, the multi-level nature is played pretty well. The scenes with notes and with a dying girl among dozens of her kind are quite interesting, although not new. Time is cyclical, everything repeats itself again, and each time everything gets more confused. You no longer know who you are, where exactly you are and how to break this diabolical cycle. From this, something can really happen in the head
True, at some point the thread of meaning flies off the bolt of time and the repetitions turn into just a delusional vicious circle from which the director and screenwriters cannot get out. And even after going through everything again, it will not work to return to the outcome. And you can no longer correct your mistakes

This film is not worthy of any review. He is generally unworthy of attention.
      Stupid. Stupid, boring.
I am only writing to warn others against wasting time.
The plot has already been covered here. .. I’ll just emphasize the dumbest moments.
So, a certain girl got into a closed time loop and the place of entry into this loop, the moment when, after a rather long journey (there is a storm and any other preamble), the crew of the yacht descends onto an empty liner. In any case, the behavior of the main character is such that although she is in prostration and is haunted by deja vu all the time, she does not at first try to actively influence the plot. In the process, it turns out that someone purposefully wets the new arrivals, and this is someone the main character herself. That is, every time the last of her friends dies on board, from exactly the same broken yacht, the exact same team rises again with her in the kit. And the main character has only one way to break the loop, this is to transfer at the moment when once again everyone will die on that broken yacht that the newly arrived group of themselves will leave. There have already been a lot of such visits and there are already 3 copies of the main character running around the ship . .. and if at the beginning (the first copy) is trying hard to save friends, then the latter is trying to kill them quickly (apparently to speed up the emergence of a new group and a new yacht, so that fall on it quickly). In itself, this situation is idiotic and it is not clear who killed all her friends at the very beginning, because in order to mature to the point of killing, she had to survive their death 3 times already? And at the very beginning, she only tries to save them. (both the first time and the second). This is silly. But the biggest stupidity is that in the end it turns out that these loops are only part of another larger loop. Covering a longer period of time. And it turns out that she goes on a trip already knowing what will happen to her next .. She needs this only for one thing – to change history and prevent the death of her son …… Knowing this at the end of the film and trying to put it all into a single logical plot you understand that you looked at illogical nonsense, where the actions of the heroine contradict themselves. Even a rastaman with a very rich imagination will not be able to come up with a semantic justification for the plot, perhaps “because it’s a gladiolus.”
If we add to this that the action looks boringly drawn out and boring, and everything is filmed like a TV show, then the lost 99 minutes become a pity.
I do not recommend viewing to anyone.

The main character and her friends get into a storm, the yacht capsizes. A ship that comes from who knows where does not come to the rescue, on board of which there is not a single person … except for the heroine herself … she is here and there .. a series of repeated events, murders, followed by a long-awaited release, which leads to what it all started..
I didn’t like the film at all, it’s better to watch something old than this new movie

901%. this is when 50% five stars and 50% one. This speaks volumes about the ingenious ambiguity of the film. And if you think that you finally understood something from the script, then you haven’t understood shit yet. From previous reviews, I liked the phrase: This film is a small personal hell of the protagonist in which she wants to achieve her redemption. Talented music of desperation and interesting ideas of deviant time loops are only part of the general madness and beautiful bloody madness.

The plot in the picture is based on a time loop into which our heroine falls, but watching this is so terribly boring that I want her to kill herself against the wall and stop torturing herself and the surrounding reality. Throughout the film, she is weakly hysterical, indistinctly explains and sucks at killing her companions. It would be more interesting to see how she actually came to this particular way of solving the problem, but, apparently, this remained beyond the understanding of the director himself.
Time goes by, heroes die like flies and also breed, but there is no end in sight to this bodyaga. The decision to bang a bad hysterical mother in front of an autistic child can only arise in the inflamed brain of the same adorable, but the triangle will not break this and you will have to “peddle until you are given …”

Everyone knows that everything in the world is interconnected, but that everything is interconnected, was not guessing, was ready to argue . From the very beginning, the atmosphere of dejection and hopelessness draws you into the very depths of different levels of reality. You try to break free, but you only sink deeper inside. The bet in the thriller is by no means made on blood, but rather on hopelessness, which is like a ceiling moving from above or impending walls. Eerily-psychological and depressive-ordered reality.

      Attention – spoiler!
After watching the movie for the second time, I finally understood what it was about. Throughout the film, you think that the heroine is a good, unhappy single mother who is trying to save herself so that she can return to her child. And you put yourself in her place, involuntarily empathizing with her. But only by the end of the film it turns out that she’s not good at all, she beats her son, ruins him in an accident and is generally dead from the very beginning! She really kills everyone and this is her endless punishment for the way she treated the child. Such a small personal hell that repeats ad infinitum.

In my opinion, those who write a bad film just didn’t understand the point. And the meaning was explained there 100 times. A film about how the soul suffers after death.
Sad film, instructive. I recomend to everyone.
The movie originally describes a dead heroine, friends are an illusion. She is alive only at the end, who was going to Htu with her son, and had an accident. All other actions are already her dead soul
      Enjoy watching everyone!

5To each Hell personal phobia …

Marine version of “Groundhog Day”, but without resetting the previous day. Not a bad idea, interesting plot, mystical atmosphere, good soundtrack. The main character, an inadequate single mother (an autistic son) falls into a personal Hell, commits acts devoid of logic … In the finale, it becomes clear with what fright she flew there. The character of Melissa George is not emotionally convincing, the supporting characters are more vivid and expressive.

      9This is her world

The main character Jess (Melissa George) is a single mother with an autistic child. Her friend Greg invites her to spend the day on a yacht with her friends. The beginning of a strong storm overturns the ship, and the survivors are forced to wait for help. Salvation comes in the form of a huge ocean liner. The ship turns out to be empty, but they are not alone on this huge ship – someone is constantly watching them …

I didn’t think I would like this movie. Moreover, I didn’t think that I would dare to give him 5. But still, despite the not very high rating, I think the film deserves it. It is complex and does not answer all questions that arise when viewing. Here you have to think for yourself, so definitely a film for an amateur and not everyone will understand and appreciate it.

      Sisyphean labor

The meaning of the film is based on the ancient Greek myth about Sisyphus, which is mentioned by the characters.

Aeolus is the ancient Greek god of the winds and the father of Sisyphus.

For misdeeds during life (before and after death), the gods sentenced Sisyphus to punishment – to forever roll a heavy stone up the mountain, which rolled down again, and he had to return it up to its original place.

      “What did he do?”

“He cheated death, that is, he promised something, but did not do it…”

Until I read this myth, I could not fully understand this film. Now everything is clear and logical to me.

“Triangle” – this title suits the film perfectly. Triangle – three corners – three states of the heroine. Neutral – she does not understand what is happening. Positive – she is already aware of the events and is trying to help her friends. Negative – she becomes a killer.

“They’ll come back and then you’ll have to kill them… It’s the only way to get home… You’ll have to kill them… Kill them…”

But we don’t know how many times this story has been repeated. And they ate to judge by medallions, corpses and birds – dozens of times. How it all began? Maybe at the very beginning everything was just like that, that is, no one killed anyone, maybe death came by itself. For example, from hunger (after all, the products in what quantity they were not, sooner or later would have ended). Or someone panicked because of despair and the inevitability of suicide as a result. Or so there were circumstances – the strongest survives.

      “Kill them all… all…”

But that’s how it is – all of them. The heroine replays repeated events so many times, kills friends again and again … until she goes into her negative state, falls overboard and only then returns home.

Next, we are shown the reality, what was and how it really was, and what causes this whole vicious circle.

“The boy cannot be saved. Nobody and nothing will help him…”

      “You’re coming back, right?”

      “Yes, I promise.”

      But she’s cheating… she’s never coming back!

, which is the triangle of carpan ?

In 1968, psychologist and MD Stephen Karpman described a model of human relations that exploded in psychology, psychotherapy, and media culture, and this explosion continues to resonate to this day.

The model was called the Drama Triangle, also known as the Karpman Triangle, and is referred to whenever a toxic relationship is discussed. We re-read Steven Karpman’s Game Free Life and tell you how to analyze this model and why it’s not just about romantic relationships.

Vertices and Edges

Karpman’s Triangle is a role-playing game model that involves three characters: Rescuer, Persecutor, Victim. Each role has its own scenario and its own set of characteristics, and together all three participants form a single destructive mechanism in which their childhood traumas, anxieties and psychological attitudes coincide like cogwheels. The wheels are spinning, the music is playing, each participant performs his role.

Who is playing?

Victim

A person who has chosen the role of a victim is professionally able to suffer and throw off responsibility. His life is hard and unsightly, and, as in the song of the ABBA group, he is waiting for the very person who will come who will take the unfortunate sufferer under his wing, throw problems on one shoulder, responsibility on the other, and together they will fly away into a bright future. Or they won’t fly away, the main thing is that the responsibility from the Victim is removed and there is no need to decide and change something yourself.

Chaser

This person enters the game to prove to himself (and to the whole world) that “good must be done with fists.” The Persecutor can do good and bring joy only with the help of brute force, verbal violence and under the pressure of external circumstances that force him to act cruelly. From the point of view of this character, the world is unfair, and only one Persecutor knows what is right, how it should be, and that this cruel world has made a villain out of him, but in fact, his actions are based on a good beginning (at the moment of this realization, he himself takes position of the victim). The Persecutor can see himself as a mentor, a defender of justice, and throughout the game he will point out to the Victim his helplessness and weakness.

Rescuer

The person who fills this role pretends to be an altruist. He provides assistance without having the slightest idea of what really needs to be done. The Rescuer gets involved in the confrontation between the Victim and the Persecutor in order to feel important, to feel the gratitude of the Victim or to make her dependent on herself. This is that nice guy who joins the game to show everyone how good he is and that everyone owes him. If help fails, he will comfort himself with the thought that he is simply not appreciated.

Claude Steiner, Karpman’s colleague, described these heroes as follows: “… The victim is not really as helpless as he feels. The Rescuer does not really help as much as he thinks, and the Persecutor really has no good reasons for discontent and accusations.

The main rule of the game is every man for himself. Each participant plays his own game according to his own rules, and the main goal of each is to prevent the others from winning. What happens if it does happen?

How to look at life from the bright side and successfully deal with stress? Learn this in the Antifragility course.

Vicious circle or “musical chairs”?

When one person completes the game, the mechanism falls apart. The Drama Triangle is needed by the participants to prevent closeness and intimacy, Karpman writes, it delays important issues, such as solving the problems of the Victim or the realization of the Rescuer through some other activity. All three find themselves alone with their problems, and in order not to drown in them, they restart the game. Perhaps the composition of the participants will change, but the roles will be the same.

Before the demons start tearing at their masters, the players, like in “musical chairs”, need to re-seat. For example, if the Rescuer won, and the Victim is delivered from the torment of the Persecutor, the Victim itself becomes the aggressor and unleashes his anger on the liberator with cries: “I did not ask (a) to save me like that, you destroyed everything (a)!”

Many people who want to avoid responsibility love this Triangle game, but the writers love it even more. Karpman’s triangle has become an ideal scheme for building conflicts and plot twists for films, comics and TV shows. For example, the relationship between Batman and the Joker is built on this model. They take turns playing the role of the Victim and the Persecutor, the Persecutor and the Rescuer, depending on which character will become the third participant in their game. A similar model can be found in the Rapunzel cartoon and in every Marvel movie.

In his book, Karpman describes on triangles not only the games of friends and enemies, lovers and spouses, but also plots of dysfunctional families, office stories, “games of swindlers” and alcoholics. All these stories with exemplary situations help the reader recognize in time that he is being drawn into such a game.

How to exit the game?

The games described by Karpman come in three levels:

Games of the first degree: socially acceptable, told and shared. It could be a difficult relationship at work, an incumbent boss, or an intruding landlord.

Games of the second degree: have more severe consequences. Talking about such games is considered indecent. This category of games includes manipulation by romantic partners, violation of personal boundaries by relatives or friends.

Games of the third degree: the most dangerous and destructive games that end in the hospital, police station, court. In such games, the participants are really in danger. These can be “games” with the participation of swindlers, alcoholics and other people with addictions, as well as with aggressive Persecutors, for example, in a situation with domestic violence.

A game of any degree must first be recognized and one’s role in it must be determined. At this stage, you need to develop the skill of high-quality active listening in order to recognize the invitation to play the game from other participants and refuse in time.

Second, refuse to play games and offer quality, honest interaction instead. It includes honest feedback, without a hidden foundation of selfish intent.

Third, take 0% responsibility for others and 100% responsibility for yourself. You cannot shift responsibility for your emotions and decisions to others, just as others cannot delegate you to make decisions and experience emotions for others. You can experience a whole range of emotions and not feel guilty about it. As long as you live emotions within your personal boundaries, no one can drag you into the game.

The first rule of ergonomics: how to create a “working triangle” in the kitchen

German scientists thought about ergonomics in the last century. How to make cooking take less time and the hostess less tired? It is necessary to optimize movement in the kitchen, arranging the work areas in the most convenient way. To do this, scientists analyzed the movement of women along the kitchen front, measured the distance traveled and recorded the time. Their research identified three activity centers where housewives spent the most time: the storage area, the prep area, and the food prep area. And the Germans brought out the principle of building a “working triangle”, which still underlies the ergonomics of kitchen facilities.

The “working triangle” rule states that the location of the main working areas – refrigerator, sink and stove – should fit into an equilateral triangle with sides of a meter and a half. With such a layout, a person during cooking will move along the shortest trajectory and, as a result, save time and energy.

The location of the work areas relative to each other should repeat the daily routes in the kitchen and not contradict the logic of the processes: I took out the food, washed it, cut it up, cooked it on the stove. It is important to take into account the distance between the vertices of the triangle – about two steps or one and a half meters. Even if you have a very large kitchen, try to place the points no further than 2.7 meters from each other.

When planning your kitchen, mentally draw lines between the vertices of the triangle and make sure that there are no obstacles in the way between them: chairs, cabinets, protruding corners. Nothing should interfere with free movement between zones. The corner of the kitchen island should not enter the space of the triangle by more than 30 cm.

How to arrange a “working triangle” in kitchens of different layouts

Ergonomics will differ depending on the layout of the kitchen. If we use mathematical terms, then the triangle does not have to be isosceles or equilateral. However, with any layout, you can create an optimal route without deviating too far from the standards of the “working triangle”.

Linear layout

Within the linear layout, there are several options for creating a “working triangle”.

  • From an ergonomic point of view, in a single-row layout, it is best to place the sink in the center, with the refrigerator and hob on the sides of it. During cooking, you will have to move in one line, so it is important to maintain a comfortable distance. There should be 80–90 cm between the sink and stove, and 40–50 cm between the sink and refrigerator.
  • You can move the refrigerator outside the kitchen front, for example, to the next wall. In this case, it is better to place it closer to the sink. With this arrangement, a triangle is already looming.
  • If the kitchen area allows, place an additional work surface – an island. Take out the stove or sink there – this solution allows you to make the “working triangle” as close as possible to ergonomic standards.
Parallel layout

With this layout, the kitchen front is divided into two blocks located parallel to each other. On one side, a stove and a sink are placed, separated by a work surface, on the opposite – a storage area with a refrigerator and cabinets.

Corner layout

The corner layout places the kitchen front along two adjacent walls. This is one of the most ergonomic options. The standard placement according to the principle of the “working triangle” is the sink in the corner, and on both sides of it there is a refrigerator and a stove.

U-shaped layout

The most logical and comfortable kitchen in terms of space ergonomics is the one that is located on three adjacent walls. The U-shaped layout allows you to create an ideal isosceles or equilateral triangle, in the upper corner of which the sink is located.

Other rules for an ergonomic kitchen

Kitchen planning starts with a triangle, but it doesn’t end there. There are many more details that affect the usability of kitchen equipment.

  • Each kitchen element has its own “opening zone”. Consider this at the planning stage so that the open refrigerator, cabinet doors and oven doors do not block the passage.
  • Leave at least 30 cm of clean surface on both sides of the hob. It is very useful when you need to urgently remove a hot pan from the stove or spread out the chopped ingredients. The minimum surface on both sides of the sink is 45 cm.
  • The standard worktop height is 85 cm and is suitable for people 160-170 cm tall. Adjust the height of the lower cabinets to suit your height: the correct work surface is slightly below the waist. To be more precise, 15 cm from the bent elbow.
  • The main worktop is best positioned between the sink and the stove. This is justified by the logic of actions: you wash the products, cut them and then send them to the stove.
  • Wall cabinets should be at such a height that you can reach the second shelf without standing on your toes.
  • Do not place the stove and sink more than 60 cm apart so that water splashes do not fly into the hot pan.
  • The ergonomics of the kitchen is greatly influenced by various devices for storing kitchen utensils: rails, hooks, containers, additional shelves. Thanks to these helpers, each tack has its own place.
  • For ease of movement and opening of doors, the width between two rows of furniture in a parallel or U-shaped layout is set at least 120 cm and not more than 180 cm.

Isosceles triangle. Properties, characteristics, height

Definition of an isosceles triangle

What triangle is called an isosceles triangle?

An isosceles triangle is a triangle whose two sides are equal.

Let’s look at this triangle:

The figure clearly shows that the sides are equal. This equality makes the triangle isosceles.

And here are the names of the sides of an isosceles triangle:

AB and BC – sides ,

AC – base of the triangle .

To understand the material, we will have to remember what the bisector, median and height are, if you suddenly forgot.

Bisector is a ray that comes from the vertex of an angle and divides this angle into two equal angles.

Even if you don’t know the definition, you’ve probably heard about a rat running around corners and dividing them in half. She will not let you forget what a bisector is. And if you don’t like rats, then anyone can run instead. The bisector is a kitty. The bisector is a fox. There are no rules for imagination. All rules are for geometry.

Please note the illustration. In the presented isosceles triangle, the bisector will be the segment BH.

Median is the line segment that connects the vertex of the triangle with the midpoint of the opposite side.

They didn’t come up with a fun rule for the median, like with the bisector, but you can come up with one. For example, a Buddhist memory: “The median is the Lama, wandering from the top of the triangle to the middle of its base and back.”

In this triangle, the median is segment BH.

Height of a triangle is the perpendicular dropped from the vertex of the triangle to the opposite side or to the line containing the side of the triangle.

The height in the given isosceles triangle is the segment BH.

Signs of an isosceles triangle

Here are a few simple rules by which it is easy to determine that in front of you is nothing but His Majesty an isosceles triangle.

  1. If a triangle has two equal angles, then the triangle is isosceles.
  2. If the height of a triangle coincides with its median drawn from the same angle, then such a triangle is isosceles.
  3. If the height of a triangle coincides with its bisector drawn from the same angle, then such a triangle is isosceles.
  4. If the bisector of a triangle coincides with its median drawn from the same angle, then such a triangle is again isosceles!

Properties of an isosceles triangle

To understand the essence of an isosceles triangle, you need to think like an isosceles triangle, become an isosceles triangle – and learn 4 theorems about its properties.

Theorem 1. In an isosceles triangle, the angles at the base are equal.

Proof of the theorem:

Let AC be the base of an isosceles triangle. Let’s draw the bisector DK. Triangle ADK is equal to triangle CDK in two sides and the angle between them (AD = DC, DK is common, and since DK is a bisector, angle ADK is equal to angle CDK). From the equality of triangles, the equality of all corresponding elements follows, which means that angle A is equal to angle C. Easy!

Theorem 2: In an isosceles triangle, the bisector drawn to the base is the median and height.

  1. ∆ ABH = ∆ CBH along two sides and the angle between them (angles ABH and CBH are equal because BH is the bisector, AB = BC because ∆ ABC is isosceles, BH is the common side).

  2. So, first, AH = HC and BH is the median.

  3. Secondly, the angles BHA and BHC are equal, and they are also adjacent, that is, they add up to 180 degrees. So they are 90 degrees and BH is the height.

Theorem 3: In an isosceles triangle, the median drawn to the base is the bisector and height.

  1. ∆ ABH = ∆ CBH on three sides (AH = CH are equal because BH is the median, AB = BC because ∆ ABC is isosceles, BH is the common side).

  2. So, firstly, the angles ABH and CBH are equal and BH is a bisector.

  3. Secondly, the angles BHA and BHC are equal, and they are also adjacent, that is, they add up to 180 degrees. So they are 90 degrees and BH is the height.

Theorem 4: In an isosceles triangle, the height drawn to the base is the bisector and the median.

  1. Δ ABH = Δ CBH on the basis of right triangles, equality of hypotenuses and corresponding legs (AB = BC, because Δ ABC is isosceles, BH is the common side).

  2. So, firstly, the angles ABH and CBH are equal and BH is a bisector.

  3. Second, AH = HC and BH is the median.

Examples of problem solving

There is nothing better than practicing and looking for angles and sides in an isosceles triangle. Well… almost nothing.

Problem dir. Given ΔABC with base AC: ∠C = 80°, AB = BC. Find ∠B.

Since you are already familiar with various theorems, it is not a secret for you that the angles at the base in an isosceles triangle are equal, and the triangle ABC is isosceles, since AB = BC.

So ∠A = ∠C = 80°.

It shouldn’t surprise you that the sum of the angles of a triangle is 180°.

∠B = 180° – 80° – 80° = 20°.

Answer: ∠B = 20°.

Problem two. In triangle ABC draw height BH, angle CAB is 50°, angle HBC is 40°. Find side BC if BA = 5 cm.

  1. The sum of the angles of a triangle is 180°, which means that in Δ ABH we can find out the angle ABH, which will be equal to 180° − 50° − 90° = 40°.

  2. But it turns out that the angles ABH and HBC are both equal in 40° and BH is a bisector.

  3. Well, since BH is both a bisector and a height, then Δ ABC is isosceles, which means BC = BA = 5 cm.

Answer: 5 cm.
