Territory and classrooms of the Montessori Center “Otrada”
Classes
If children are in a disproportionate environment, they are dependent on adults. For a small child, even opening the door can be difficult. The child enters our Montessori center on his own, opening a small door corresponding to his height. For him, this is a signal: “I am entering the school. This is my school, created for me.”
From the very beginning, the building and facilities were designed to be proportionate to children. We have low and small sinks and toilets accessible to the youngest, as well as all other items, so that children can do as much as possible on their own: high chairs, tables, bookshelves, even a dishwasher are appropriate for their height. nine0005
Being in an environment proportionate to him, your child becomes independent and self-confident. In our center, the children themselves set the table, wash the dishes, hang clothes in the locker, having come from a walk.
The child can freely choose his own business and maintain order in the surrounding space. There are many different plants in the classroom that children take care of, there is even a carnivorous one – the Venus flytrap, which intrigues children so much.
If the child does not have to worry about whether he can get the item he needs and spend effort on it, then his mind is freed to occupy himself with other more important things. The early years play a key role in the development of a child, and our goal is to create an environment where there is everything for all-round development. nine0005
Bright, spacious classrooms with original Montessori materials of the highest quality are an excellent platform for learning and developing children. The arrangement of materials in the environment is the task of our teachers, certified according to the AMI standard. Their goal is the optimal organization of space for games and productive work.
For parents, the IMC “Otrada” has a special place for meetings, events and seminars, there is a library of Montessori literature in Russian and English. nine0005
Building
The building of the Montessori Center in Otrada was designed with the joint participation of experienced Montessori educators and professionals in the field of construction and interior design. Their goal was to create a place filled with warmth and light, where everything contributes to the development of the child in a safe and comfortable environment.
In the building of the IMC “Otrada” – 8-meter panoramic windows, climate control, soft lighting and interior items thought out to the smallest detail. Engineering systems accurately regulate the temperature, maintaining it at 22°C and air humidity at 50%. nine0005
During the construction and decoration of the building, only natural materials were used: stone – travertine and Brazilian slate, wood – oak and pine, mosaic – glass and stone.
All rooms of the center have heated floors, which means that children can freely crawl and work out on the floor. The environment is safe: there are no outlets and wires for children, but you can use the light switches in the toilet and reading area.
Panoramic windows provide natural light for working with Montessori materials. For example, when working with color plates, when it is supposed to select a pair or draw up a series of color gradations – from light to dark – natural lighting creates optimal conditions for working with this material and contributes to the sensory development of the child. nine0005
Territory
We know that children are very fond of watching what is happening from the window. The views from our windows are trees, forest, grazing horses. They set a calm mood that accompanies children during classes. The child reads, draws or works with mathematical materials, while birds and butterflies fly outside the window.
The outer space of the center begins with its own playground, spacious and safe, surrounded by a fence. The site is equipped with equipment for physical development classes (gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination) and active games: logs, swings, slides, sandboxes, etc.
In the Montessori method, much attention is paid to the scientific study of the surrounding world. In the courtyard of our center there are beds for growing vegetables, flowers and other plants, as well as a place for compost from organic waste. All this gives children an idea of the relationship of processes in nature.
In summer, when the weather is good, the doors of the classrooms open to the terrace, where there are chairs and tables, and the child, if he wants, can study in nature.
