At Sunny Patch Preschool we celebrate the magic of early childhood.

Our home daycare is geared to support little explorers 18 months to five years.

We offer a fun school readiness program in a mixed age group. Our play based preschool program is the perfect place for your child to discover a wide range of color, texture and creative movement using various materials. We offer many open ended preschool activities designed to facilitate your child’s development in our home daycare.

HIGHER STAFF TO CHILD RATIOS

We believe in building confidence and self esteem through connections with loving adults.

The first five years are full of new milestones and BIG emotions! Your child is learning so much in that time, it’s no wonder they sometimes get overwhelmed. We believe in helping children learn to calm down by using a strategy called co-regulating where the caregiver stays with the child as he or she works through big emotions. 

Throughout the morning we work also on many practical life skills and social activities that go more smoothly with extra adult support. We also work on deep breathing techniques, yoga and other methods of self regulation to help them feel more confident and connected. 

In order to employ these strategies we have added an extra staff member above licensing regulations to provide support during the morning when children are most active.

At sunny patch preschool we pride ourselves on creating a calm atmosphere where children feel connected and supported by experienced staff. We also take additional training courses yearly that are specifically tailored to helping children navigate those big emotions in loving ways.

Our classrooms offer a variety play spaces and experiences for the children to explore based on their personal interests and needs. Young children are curious and NEED novelty, our teachers know this and have a variety of play provocations ready to greet them each day.

Our indoor space is comprised of four main learning spaces: 

The gross motor area:

Research shows that young children need movement to process new information and regulate their emotions. Our most popular area is the gross motor area! With several nugget couches, climbers, balance boards and gross motor toys your child will have many opportunities to move about. We often set our nuggets up into a variety of fun configurations to encourage problem solving, building, gross motor skills and language development through social interactions. The children LOVE our daily obstacle courses; it’s a great way to build relationships with peers and support self regulation!

Our housekeeping area:

Our housekeeping area is the perfect place for pretend play! We are always adding new things to support the children’s ideas such as stuffed animals and clipboards for a pet shop, child sized dress up clothes to practice practical life skills like getting dressed or seasonal items like Christmas trees to decorate or our hot cocoa stand. The housekeeping area is a great place to learn about sharing and creating play stories together. 

The Sensory and Block Area 

Our sensory and block station is the perfect place for MESSY play! In this area the children have the opportunity to explore a variety of textures such as slime, large scale painting, sifting / pouring and pretty much anything you probably DON’T want all over your house! We learn all about creative thinking, building those fine motor skills, stretching our creative thinking, experimenting and learning about the properties of different materials.  

We also offer a plethora of building materials such as train sets, large / small blocks, tube, legos and other building materials in this area. 

Table top Activities 

Our large tables in the center of the room are the perfect place to share family style eating experience or explore table top activities in a small group.  We offer lots of play prompts such as drawing materials, letter / number matching activities and board games. This is a great area for the children who LOVE to spend time on small group calmer activities with the teacher. 

OUR FOCUS ON HIGH QUALITY NUTRITION

Growing bodies deserve the only BEST foods!

Healthy eating habits are a big part of your growing child’s overall wellness! The the first five years are the foundation of healthy habits that will last a lifetime. We pride ourselves on providing your child with a nutritionally sound meal plan. We offer lots of healthy, high quality food options and we encourage children to take part in mealtime by cooking activities into our lesson plans.  

Our rotating menus include whole grains, lean sources of protein and a variety of fresh seasonal produce. We believe in serving healthy whole foods overly processed foods or sugary juices.

I began my first home daycare as a young mother because I dreamt of a place where children could have a preschool experience in a cozy home environment. I struggled to find a program that met my standards so I went out and created the program I currently run. 

 My love for the work I was doing and my passion for supporting families in the early years is the driving force behind everything we do here at Sunny Patch Preschool!
