Campus Overview
Welcome to Little Big Minds Kennedy. At 28th St and Osborn, this campus represents a new home for our flagship campus. Founded in 2010, the Biltmore campus was where the Little Big Minds story began and where we laid the foundation for deep community connections. It is thanks to the dedication and commitment of that community that we simply outgrew our original home.
@LBM Kennedy we have more room for our ever-growing little BIG minds preschool family. This campus boasts 8 large classrooms, dedicated parking, and plenty of room to stretch legs and grow minds. The natural light and authentic, interactive indoor play-spaces make this campus environment unique. We look forward filling the halls with laughter, inquiry, exploration and curiosity.

Our Environment
Our classroom schedule includes a balance of active and quiet learning activities, large and small group activities, indoor play centers and outdoor play. We believe that life experiences are the basis for all learning. Our teachers provide a nurturing and safe environment for students to learn and explore.
Our teachers are guides. Each day they create opportunities for students to embark on a journey of exploration and discovery. Students are encouraged to ask questions and imagine outcomes. They are invited to share their ideas in small groups and with the whole class and they are encouraged to test their theories. Teachers lead children in a discussion rather than simply telling children the answers. After-all, what could be more fun than uncovering that nugget of learning all on your own?
Our Discovery Centers
Our classrooms are full of magical and intentional learning spaces. Discovery centers are play- objective based areas that are intended to provoke thought and spark imagination:
Literacy/Library – books, pens, papers, loose parts and magazines that inspire early language development, production and reading skills.
Math and Science/Manipulative – materials/loose parts that encourages exploration, counting, grouping and sorting.
Mini Art Studio/Arts – art techniques such as clay, charcoal, wire, watercolors, collage, paint and more, inspire creativity.
Sensory/Light Tables – a place to explore the power of our senses (touch, sound, smell, taste)
Home Living/Dramatic Play – for role-playing, language development, imagination and pretend-play.
Blocks: Building with blocks and repurposed stimulates learning in all domains of development, intellectual, physical, and social-emotional and language.
Gathering Time/Nest Time – a time to share stories, review academic content, sing songs., appreciate friends and discuss values.
Cozy Area – A place to self-reflect and self-direct.
Learning doesn’t stop when the kids go outside. Just like the classroom, the playground is divided into specific areas that encourage learning through play.
Your child can choose from a variety of activities, including riding tricycles, exploring the garden, splashing in water tables, and sliding, climbing or jumping on one of several playground apparatuses. Every day is carefully structured to provide children a balance of guided activities and free-play.

McKee Language Schools | Spanish Immersion Preschool & Daycare in Orem and Salt Lake City – Dual Immersion English/Spanish Preschool Education
Teach Kids Spanish Successfully With McKee
Our preschool uses the McKee Language system, a program for teaching children second languages in an atmosphere of play.
Children are functionally fluent in Spanish in less than 500 hours. Dr. McKee has proven, that with developmentally appropriate activities, modeled in an atmosphere of play, love and excitement, kids learn the language and are completely unaware that they are being “taught” Spanish. In this natural learning environment children develop the skills of a second language in our Spanish language preschool.

A child’s brain is twice as active as an adult’s brain and still in development as they grow to adulthood. In this developmental stage a child can learn a second language 8 times faster that an adult. The research concludes that the brain changes, as the child gets older. It becomes more difficult to learn foreign pronunciation and hear the different sounds in the foreign language. As we get older, our own language patterns interference with the new language being learned. A child (particularly one in preschool) doesn’t encounter these same roadblocks as they learn a second language.
Another reason is that becoming fluent in another language takes time. Your children will have less time as they get older and they become involved in school, arts, sports, community, and other extra-curricular activities. Why not have them speaking before they get involved with those other activities? There’s a huge benefit to teach kids Spanish while they are young.

Children at McKee Language Schools learn Spanish in an atmosphere of play. The preschool learning environment is similar to a birthday party: the children learn without ever really thinking that they are being taught Spanish.
In a day at McKee, children will rotate through 25-30 minute hands-on language-rich activities in six centers taught in a 100% Spanish immersion setting. We teach kids Spanish by having children prepare and eat a snack in Kitchen activities, play “cat and mouse” in Games activities, build a toy catapult in Shop activities, make a piñata in Art activities, play kickball in Gym activities, and act out Jack and the Beanstalk in Drama. Each activity center provides a different setting needed for children to learn a wide variety of vocabulary and grammar through practice without even being aware that they are learning it.
Unlike other Spanish language immersion schools, there are no language exercises, memorization drills, worksheets, or dialogues. Read more about our curriculum here.

ARRIVAL
Car riders and walkers may enter the building at 8:30. School begins at 9:00 a.m. We do not have supervision for students before 8:30 a.m. Car riders, please enter the parking lot entrance to the school and pull up to the curb and stay in the car. For safety, we need to maintain a single line of cars along the curb. Parents will not be permitted to walk their students into the school. We will have staff outside and inside to direct students to their classrooms. Bus riders will enter through the bus doors, as we have traditionally entered. Breakfast is available to all students. Tardy bell rings at 9:00 AM.
DISMISSAL
If you plan to pick up your student, please enter the parking lot and stay in your car, in the pick up line, along the curb. We will have staff to walk with our prek and kindergarten students out to the cars. This will take some time to become efficient, please be patient as we develop this routine with our students. It is helpful if you have a large sign on your passenger door with your child’s name and grade level so that we can easily see the names to call. If the traffic gets stopped at the light, please feel free to park in the parking lanes nearest to Karl Road, and then walk to the sidewalk. We have a teacher on the sidewalk calling names. We ask that you social distance on the sidewalk.
BUS LANE
Cars are not allowed in the bus lane. This lane is only for buses and Day Care vehicles. We appreciate your cooperation in making sure that students are safe at dismissal.

Language Immersion Schools and Why They Work
Fort Worth dad Matthew Sikes wishes he were bilingual. “All the time,” he shares. “I’m a lawyer, and the more languages you speak, the greater the pool of potential clients. And it would help with witnesses. Plus, knowing other languages opens up cultural experiences you won’t have if you speak only English.”
Little by little, Sikes is learning some Spanish through his daughters. They’re 2 and 4—and take classes at the Spanish-immersion preschool Mi Casita. “I find myself trying to figure out what they said,” Sikes laughs. “I look things up on Google Translate.”
Sikes enrolled his daughters at Mi Casita with the hope that they will one day have the professional and travel opportunities he hasn’t had. He also sees great value for their developing minds. “They’re thinking in different ways and improving their cognition,” Sikes says of the girls. “They’ve really taken to it. I’ve even heard the older one lecturing the younger one in Spanish.”
Sikes and his wife are among a growing number of parents who want their children to be multilingual. It makes sense, given our global society where diverse cultures thrive. According to the U.S. Census, nearly 30 percent of the Texas population (that is, 7.8 million people) speak Spanish at home.
There are private, specialty schools that help children become bilingual as well as a growing dual-language trend in North Texas public schools. Here’s how and why those programs work.
How Immersion Schools Work
Mi Casita—the preschool and daycare in Fort Worth that Sikes’ daughters attend—conducts classes in 100% Spanish. “More than teaching in Spanish, we speak in Spanish,” explains Melissa Page Peter, founder and owner of Mi Casita, which accepts kids from birth to 5 years. “If we did both English and Spanish, the students wouldn’t have as much exposure to Spanish. The more sounds they hear in Spanish, the higher the likelihood of fluency.”
Mi Casita students take in the language through project-based learning—such as creating a toy store and presenting it (in Spanish) to their families. This is in contrast to simply being taught nouns, verbs and the like.
“Project-based learning is engaging, authentic work that leads to very positive learning experiences in general,” says Page Peter. “And my philosophy is that when we align language with that approach, they’ll have more positive experiences with Spanish as well.” Starting your kids young is best. While “better late than never,” Page Peter says “the optimal time is 0-7.”
Camille Laupie-Williams—a Dallas International School (DIS) pre-K3 French teacher—says kids in preschool grasp language quickly because they absorb it intuitively. In contrast, an adult might try to compare and translate what they’re learning to their first language.
“Our students will start to understand directions in French, to participate to our language rituals and to answer questions in Pre-K3,” Laupie-Williams notes. “They will be able to speak back in French in kindergarten.”
They gain skills in other languages too. DIS instructional days are split primarily between French and English, with a third language, Spanish or Mandarin, incorporated beginning in pre-K4.
Even parents who speak another language themselves choose these kinds of schools and programs. Dallas mom Nelyda Villaseñor initially learned Spanish from her parents but gained fluency in dual-language programs. So it was an easy choice to enroll her 3-year-old daughter in bilingual pre-K at Dallas ISD’s Arthur Kramer Elementary.
“I have a few cousins whose parents enrolled them in only-English classes starting in kindergarten, and they can barely speak Spanish,” she shares. “They are not able to write it nor really read it fluently. That makes a huge difference.”
Villaseñor tells us her daughter grows her language abilities mostly through playtime and basic skills building. “I feel like her vocabulary has expanded,” she said. “She’s using fuller sentences now.”
Cultivating Culture
Another important aspect of language learning is immersion in the culture of study. For example, DIS follows the French education model. “We have more breaks during the day,” says Laupie-Williams. “We have three different recesses—that’s a little different from American schools, I think. Playing outside is important for us.”
And the children learn French stories and songs, too, such as classic book Roule Galette and children’s song Une Souris Verte. Plus, there’s one day out of the year that’s dedicated to celebrating all the countries around the world that speak French.
There’s also a multinational feel at Mi Casita, where most of the teachers were born outside of the United States. “We have teachers from Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Colombia,” says Page Peter. “Their cultural experience, they bring that to the classroom.”
Ultimately, these schools teach kids how to navigate modern life. “It’s that open mind that they get here at DIS,” Laupie-Williams says. “Being aware at such a young age of all the different cultures, all the different languages, is preparing them for the global world that they’re going to grow up in. ”

Spanish courses for preschool children are aimed at all-round development. In the classroom, students train their memory, stimulate mental activity, reveal their creative potential, learn to cooperate in a team and discover leadership qualities.

Top 10 Spanish Immersion Programs for International Students ⋆ Study Abroad GuideIt can seem intimidating to start learning Spanish all at once with native speakers around you. However, anyone who has learned a second language knows that the most effective method of learning it is total immersion. The Spanish immersion programs are fantastic because you are constantly exposed to the language. Spanish immersion programs are useful because they force you to pay attention to the rhythms, patterns, and complexities of the language while encouraging you to converse with it. You learn on the go from native speakers, just like a child does. Why learn Spanish by immersionLearning Spanish vocabulary and verb conjugation at a school in your home country can be the first step in finding a new way to express yourself in Spanish. However, to properly understand how native speakers interact, you must have lived in a country where Spanish is your native language. One of the best things about the immersive program is that many of them include homestay accommodation where you will live with your family, eat with them and even go on excursions. Living in a family, you will see firsthand how people live in the country where you study. What to look for when choosing a Spanish programChoosing a Spanish course is not something to be taken lightly. Beware of offers and promotions that seem too good to be true, promising you the magic solution to finally learn Spanish. You should always choose a reputable Spanish school to achieve what you really want.
How to choose the dive program that’s right for youWhen you go through an immersion program in a Spanish-speaking country, you often have to apply your knowledge of Spanish. Instead of grammar and vocabulary exercises, you will have to speak the language. Spanish will always surround you. You will need to use your Spanish skills to do simple things like grocery shopping or finding your way home. You will learn from native speakers throughout the procedure. Typically, these speakers will want to help you learn. The importance of learning from native speakers cannot be overestimated. Not only will you improve your communication skills, but you will also understand how words and phrases are actually used. Getting that kind of knowledge from a textbook can be tricky. Find a suitable program duration.A few weeks to a few months is the typical duration of an international Spanish immersion program. It’s unbelievable that someone could master Spanish completely in a few weeks; however, one of the benefits of a compact and short spanish program is that it can help you determine if you want to continue on this journey or not after you complete it. Please select the correct country.Travelers who want to learn Spanish by immersion often choose Spain as their first and only destination as it is the place where the language originated. Parts of Spain have mild weather and an inexpensive cost of living compared to many other European countries. The country also has a long history of teaching and promoting its national language. As you learn and practice the language, you will progress faster. By doing daily chores with your host family, such as shopping for groceries and eating together, you acquire the language and learn to think in Spanish. Balance your experience in and out of classTaking a language course while traveling is a much more rewarding experience than just sitting in a class in your city. Get to know the language and culture, taste the cuisine, see the local sights and interact with the shopkeepers. These are experiences you will never forget. Choose a country with a good reputation that welcomes guests, has a stable and peaceful political climate, and welcomes people from all over the world to their place of residence. Choose your accommodationThe best Spanish immersion programs offer homestay programs with reliable and trustworthy families. These carefully selected families are experts in making their visitors feel at ease in their homes. The host family will tell you about local traditions, invite you on special excursions and talk about local events, places of interest and travel. Your host family will also provide you with information about the local economy. Also, depending on the bond you form with your host family, you may have the potential to develop friendships that can last for many years after you return home. 5 Spanish immersion programs in 2022

International House Madrid has been teaching Spanish since 1986. The exact format of the curriculum depends in part on the proportion of students from each language group. Two way immersion can be used in schools where half of the students speak Spanish and half speak English. If the majority of students speak English, one-way immersion is the most appropriate approach. Are Spanish immersion programs suitable? Many people find that participating in an immersion program is the most effective way for students to thrive in a foreign language. Advocacy groups also believe that sending children to an immersion program at an early age is beneficial, which is why full immersion child care and preschool are so popular. In particular, if neither parent speaks a foreign language, they can be very helpful. Why? Children learn much more from other children than from adults, whether for better or worse. As a result, if you are planning to send your child to an immersion school, consider that this can greatly improve foreign language fluency. What is the Spanish immersion program?Spanish immersion programs include Spanish as part of the regular school curriculum. Previous knowledge of Spanish is not required. It is designed for students who are fluent in English and Spanish and want to improve their communication and reading skills in both languages. Early exposure to a language increases the likelihood that a child will fully master that language later in life. It is like a child’s brain that learns any language with which they are sufficiently familiar, flawlessly and without accents, if they are adequately learned. According to research, this skill weakens with age and eventually disappears by the time a child reaches high school. Is it possible to learn Spanish by immersion? The Spanish immersion programs are fantastic because you get to know the language all the time. The time you spend immersing yourself in a language is valuable because it forces you to pay attention to the rhythms, patterns, and subtleties of the language while encouraging you to converse with it. You learn on the go from native speakers, like a toddler learning a new language. Although Spanish is widely spoken and one of the most spoken languages in the world, dialects and accents vary from country to country. To prevent dialectical variations and confusion later on, it is recommended that if you have a specific place where you want to work after completing your Spanish study program, you are looking into employment opportunities in the same field. How do you do Spanish immersion at home?Immersion is a teaching method that involves prolonged exposure to environments or situations that are native or relevant to the subject being studied. This is especially common when teaching a foreign language and the language being taught, or the target language, is the only language used. As a language teacher, I have found that there is nothing more effective for mastering a language than total immersion in a language. Reading or watching the news is a great way to test your abilities and find out what’s going on in the world. Wouldn’t it be better to do it in Spanish? CNN en Espanol is a popular Spanish-language news channel for native Spanish speakers. It’s fantastic if you have the opportunity to live in a country where the language you want to learn is spoken. However, now you can immerse yourself in the experience from the comfort of your own home. Reading blog posts, e-books, articles and essays written in Spanish can help you improve your language skills. You must understand how to achieve your goals in learning Spanish and what principles you must follow in order to be effective and efficient. Are immersion schools worth it?The benefit of immersive language learning is that you get the most up-to-date version of the language, including material not found in textbooks. Most importantly, in order to learn correctly, you must have the right mindset. A strong fear of making mistakes will only keep you from progressing, and fluency will only increase if you try to speak with all your shortcomings. What does research say about immersion? The very best Spanish immersion schools have a stellar reputation online and offline and are easy to find. Before making a decision, consult with academic institutions and other groups that send representatives to the site, as well as online reviews. A truly effective Spanish immersion program will have an outstanding reputation in the region, the country and the world. Starter StarterZero level. A student at this level knows practically nothing, the level does not involve the preliminary study of a foreign language. Starter, in fact, being a pre-basic level, is more relevant to students of preschool and primary school age, who are learning the language for the first time from the very basics: writing, alphabet, reading. An adult student, who can easily master these skills much faster, we invite you to the Beginner level. Beginner BeginnerA student who has completed the Beginner level can greet in a foreign language, thank for services. Talk about yourself in 2-3 phrases, answer questions within the framework of elementary vocabulary, participate in a small dialogue, ask about the affairs, interests of the interlocutor, about his family and profession, say goodbye. Can read elementary sentences (no more than 7–9 words) based on known vocabulary. Able to listen to short sentences with elementary vocabulary. Can write your name, date of birth, brief information. Vocabulary is about 500-600 words. Elementary ElementaryA student who has mastered this level can use phrases and expressions to talk about himself and his family, about his preferences in food, music, etc. Can exchange information about himself, his family, his city. Express opinions about what you like. Ask questions about the interests of the interlocutor. Can recognize and understand familiar words and simple phrases (advertising, postcards), read short texts and dialogues with familiar vocabulary. Can understand by ear the simplest and most frequently used words and phrases, understand teacher’s words and short instructions. Can write short greeting cards, letters, fill out a questionnaire about himself (his name, nationality, address). The vocabulary is about 1000-1300 words. Pre Intermediate Pre IntermediateThe next level after Elementary is called Pre-Intermediate, literally translated as Pre-Intermediate. Having reached this level, Students already have an idea of how many sentences and phrases are built, can speak briefly on many topics. The Pre-Intermediate level adds confidence and expands the learning potential. There are longer texts, more practice exercises, new grammatical topics, and more complex sentence structures. Topics encountered at this level may include complex questions, more complex grammatical topics, different forms of the future tense, conditional sentences, modal verbs, infinitives and gerunds, repetition and reinforcement of grammar. In terms of oral skills, after passing the Pre-Intermediate level, you can safely look for any opportunity to use your knowledge in practice. Vocabulary has 1400-1800 words. Intermediate IntermediateAt the Intermediate level, the knowledge gained at the previous stage is consolidated, and a lot of new vocabulary is added, including complex ones. For example, personal characteristics of people, scientific terms, professional vocabulary and slang. The object of study is active and passive voices, direct and indirect speech, participial and participle phrases, phrasal verbs and prepositions, word order in complex sentences, varieties of articles, etc. From grammatical tenses, the difference between compound tenses, as well as between various forms of expressing the future tense, is considered in more detail. Texts at this level become longer and more meaningful, and communication becomes easier and freer. The advantage of this stage is that in many modern companies, employees with knowledge of the Intermediate level are highly valued. Also, this level makes it possible to freely understand the interlocutor and speak in response. Border level between B1 and B2. The vocabulary of a student of this level is about 2000–2500 words. Upper Intermediate Upper IntermediateIf Students progress to this level, it means that they are able to understand fluent speech of the target language and communicate easily using the vocabulary they have already acquired. At the Upper-Intermediate level, it becomes possible to use a foreign language much more in practice, since there is a little less theory, and if there is, then it basically repeats and reinforces level B. One of the most difficult levels to form a “jump” between level B and level C. The use of articles, modal verbs of assumptions, verbs of indirect speech, hypothetical sentences, abstract nouns, causal voice and much more are studied. The Upper-Intermediate level is one of the most popular in both business and education. People who are fluent in a foreign language at the B2 level can easily maintain the right conversation, apply for admission to a foreign university, etc. Vocabulary has 3000-4000 words. Advanced AdvancedThe Advanced level is required for Professionals who want to achieve high fluency in the target language. Unlike the Upper-Intermediate level, a lot of interesting turns appear here, including idioms. Knowledge of tenses and other grammatical aspects studied earlier is only deepened and considered from other unexpected angles. Discussion topics become more specific and professional, for example: the environment and natural disasters, legal processes, genres of literature, medicine, IT, computer terms, etc. Vocabulary is about 4000-6000 words. Proficiency ProficiencyThis is the highest level of knowledge of the language, a stage close to a “native speaker”, that is, a person for whom the language you are learning is native. The level is labeled C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The level of English C2 comes after Advanced, and many linguists say that at such high levels of foreign language proficiency it is difficult to say which of the students is at the Advanced level and which is at Proficiency, but there are a number of fundamental differences between these levels: speech becomes not just competent and fluent, but also complex in all plans. The student can use a rich vocabulary, complex grammatical and colloquial structures in speech as naturally as a native speaker. On the Proficiency course, your speech will be enriched with idioms and phraseological turns, business and special vocabulary, jargon and terms. Texts at the Proficiency level will be complex, rich in special vocabulary. Moreover, in order to understand these texts, you will need to have not only a good vocabulary, but also excellent general knowledge. You will be able to perform any kind of written work, develop documentation. At the same time, the topics of letters and essays can be varied, in order to properly cover them, you need to develop not only language skills, but also general erudition.
