The Sherwin-Williams company Russia | About

The Sherwin-Williams Company, the largest paint and varnish manufacturer in North America. In 2017, by merging with Valspar, The Sherwin-Williams Company became the largest company in the world. At the end of 2015, The Sherwin-Williams Company’s sales amounted to more than 11 billion US dollars.

The history of Sherwin-Williams paints begins with the legendary Henry Sherwin and Edward Williams. These people were endowed with an amazing ability to anticipate the needs of the paint and varnish market, which subsequently led to the creation of the company and its superiority not only in North America, but throughout the world.

The history of the company began just one year after the end of the American Civil War, with an amazing story when in 1866. Henry Sherwin invested all his savings ($2,000) in the production of paints and varnishes, in partnership with Edward Williams, in a company that set a global goal (later to become the motto): “We will paint the whole world.”

Eleven years later, in 1877, Sherwin-Williams revolutionized the paint industry by patenting a sealed can formula.

In 2010, the world’s first application for mobile devices was released.

Sherwin-Williams has completed the acquisition of Valspar.

Sherwin-Williams Company, one of the world’s leading developers and manufacturers of paints, varnishes and other coatings, announced the completion of its acquisition of Valspar Corporation. Under the terms of the merger agreement, Valspar shareholders will receive $113 per share in cash.

John G. Morikis, President and CEO of Sherwin-Williams, said, “We are delighted to complete this transaction and I officially welcome our new colleagues from Valspar who are bringing their tremendous talent to Sherwin-Williams. The acquisition of Valspar accelerates Sherwin-Williams’ global growth strategy and creates a world leader in paints and coatings. The combination of the two companies creates a portfolio of world-class brands, expands the product range, a platform for first-class technology and innovation, and the company’s presence in the world. All these opportunities will bring new benefits to our customers and create sustainable long-term added value for our shareholders.”

The turnover of the combined company, headquartered in Cleveland (USA, Ohio), in 2016 amounted to 15.8 billion US dollars. The company employs approximately 60,000 people worldwide. It has an excellent position in the architectural paint market in North and South America, China, Australia and the UK.

Sherwin-Williams is a world leader in paints and varnishes market thanks to advanced technologies, environmentally friendly production, the latest developments and exclusive materials. Sherwin-Williams today is a multi-billion dollar transnational corporation. The company owns more than 30 factories and 3,000 own branded stores. Quality control Sherwin-Williams is ISO 9 certified001:2001. Sherwin-Williams products meet the highest environmental standards, and GreenGuard and LEED certified coatings are exceptionally environmentally friendly.

Sherwin-Williams Latex Paints are 100% acrylic based for unparalleled quality and a 12 year to lifetime (for the homeowner) life. Sherwin-Williams products meet US and Russian federal certification requirements. According to San. Epid. Conclusion (Moscow, May 15, 2006) Sherwin-Williams paints and enamels are approved for use in children’s, educational, medical institutions (schools, kindergartens, hospitals, etc.).

The quality of Sherwin-Williams paints is so high even compared to other American manufacturers that they are sometimes rightly called “new generation” paints.

THE COMPANY’S PAINTS ARE

Thixotropic, they have the effect of “self-smoothing” the film during the drying process. After drying, the surface has a more “rich” appearance, smooth and does not “ripple”.

Compared to conventional paints, Sherwin-Williams paints have a sufficient thinner layer during application and, due to better hiding power, more economical consumption.

Unlike European paints, where acrylate copolymer latex is mainly used as a binder, almost all Sherwin-Williams facade paints are made on the basis of 100% acrylic. In simple terms, the 100% acrylic molecular compound is based on a shorter molecular chain and is “cleaner”. This provides unprecedented strength and elasticity of the film, and, accordingly, durability. The 100% acrylic compound also allows Sherwin-Williams paint to be applied to almost any surface (stone facades, brick, metal, wood, etc.).

Sherwin-Williams interior paints have a “longer” dry time than conventional paints. This is specially done so that the paint does not “stripe”.

Sherwin-Williams paints meet the highest US environmental standards and are virtually odorless. Some interior paints (for example, Harmony) are specially designed for offices and administration buildings and allow painting in occupied premises.

Smart Paint. Unlike European acrylate paints, which are thick and jelly-like, Sherwin Williams paints are more “liquid” in appearance, but have better hiding power. This achieves unprecedented ease of use, the pleasure of the painting process and you do not have to be a professional painter to achieve the desired result, the paint forgives and smooths out mistakes in painting.

All paint manufacturers have a problem with opacity in rich tones. Some lemon yellow, cherry and other shades are sometimes difficult to cover the surface even for 3-5 layers. The Sherwin Williams company solved this problem in the following way: a special program was developed for tinting primers depending on the saturation of the shade; after applying the tinted primer, the hiding power of saturated shades is usually achieved in 2 layers.

As a rule, neither Russian nor Western architects use “super white” and “dazzling white” paints (generally, they were invented in Russia, or made specifically for Russia). In projects, as a rule, lay the “natural white” color. This is done because “super white” colors tend to yellow over time and are particularly susceptible to dust and dirt. The ExtraWhite base is specially designed and is not only a tinting base, but also a “natural white” color.

Some Sherwin Williams paints are capable of covering the surface in 1 coat. Hiding power depends on the type of paint, its shade, surface preparation, porosity, primer type and color, etc.

Due to the special formula the paints have a distributed viscosity. Thanks to this, the paint is easy to apply, the painter’s hands do not get tired, and this increases productivity and makes work more enjoyable.

Some Sherwin Williams paints are antibacterial and contain substances that resist mold growth.

Sherwin Williams paints have a longer curing time compared to conventional paints, so it is recommended to wash and rub it 18 days after painting.
