Wylie has always been the most welcoming school the first time I ever stepped into a building almost 12 years ago. We have Wylie Way days where we step forward as a community and show how amazing of a school district we really are. The faculty and staff are amazing as well. Everyone is always making sure we have a perfect learning environment as well as making class fun. If I didn’t go to Wylie, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I feel safe walking into my classes everyday and I am always ready to learn! We have so many amazing clubs and after school activities that help me feel more welcomed each and everyday. I have never not felt welcomed in Wylie ISD. If I could stay with this community forever, I sure would!

Wylie ISD not only focuses heavily on academia, but also on personal responsibility and respect for others. Once a semester, academics are put on pause to emphasis a good characteristic, such as grit or hard work, throughout all schools for an entire day! Parents do not need to worry about their kids being indoctrinated into anti-American rhetoric. Most of the schools won multiple awards for high test scores on more than one occasion. The majority of teachers are decent with some exceptions. Most of all, Wylie ISD does not get caught in cheating scandals or anything similar. Overall, I’d give the district an A.
I love the Wylie Independent School District , teachers, staff and the community. Wylie has encouraged me to grow emotionally, mentally, physically and has provided me with a well rounded education. I look forward to pursuing my degree in Education/ History because of a former Jr. High School teacher . This teacher was amazing, encouraging, fun and a true role model. I have enjoyed my time as a TAFE officer while in High School. I have become more outgoing by participating in the TAFE competitions. I am excited about going to elementary schools and assisting in teaching classes with the teachers. Wylie ISD has provided many opportunities to succeed and pursue any career. I look forward to attending college and hopefully coming back to Wylie ISD to be a teacher and then some day a school counselor. I want to give back to the community that provided me with the opportunities’ I was given. Wylie ISD strives to be the best it can be in all aspects . I appreciate & cherish my Wylie ISD

This is truly one of the best schools you can ask for. The building is old, the classrooms are small, it looks like nothing or low rent. The experience on the other hand is amazing. The kids excel at everything and get a ton of support from the teachers. Students leave Hillside far ahead of most of their peers and a lot more mature. Hillside is a program that challenges the kids and keeps them active. Hillside Academy has been a bright spot. We have our second child going through the program and our other child is already getting paid internships at age 15. The average student at Hillside Academy…They put those little minds to work..

Schools
Wylie Independent School District has a total of seven schools. All campuses are located within the city of Abilene.
History
The history of Wylie ISD dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. Although records show that the Wylie School District was designated as early as 1888, the school was only organized in 1902. [3] Mary W. Wiley, widow of pioneer J.J. Wylie donated two acres of land for the construction of a new school. Three prominent citizens contributed $120 each to purchase materials, and the residents pooled their talents to construct a twenty-by-thirty-foot building that could be used as a school and church. [3]
In its first year (1902), the campus was a private school with 13 students. [4] What was then called District 11 became a public school in 1903. A year later, a post office called Sambo opened in the community. The name of the school was changed from the 11th district to the Sambo School. Due to the increase in enrollment in 1915, a new school was built on land donated by Mrs. Wylie. [4] She requested that the name of the school be changed to Wylie in honor of her late husband, which was done. [5] A series of bond elections were held in the 1920s. The first, in 1924, financed the construction of a new brick school, which opened in 1925. A second bond election held in 1927 approved the construction of two additional classrooms and a dining hall for the home economics department. [4]
In the 1930s, several smaller school districts merged with Wylie. Neill School District did it in 1931, followed by Iberis in 1933 year. That same year, the district expanded from ten to eleven grades. In 1935, Buffalo Gap began sending its tenth and eleventh graders to Wylie’s, which continued until 1978 when Buffalo Gap merged with Jim Ned. Potosi began sending his eleventh grade students to Wylie in 1937, and Cedar Creek closed and began sending his students to Wylie. [4] The Bulldog mascot and the colors purple and gold were officially adopted in 1942. Potosi who since the end of 19In the 1930s he sent his students to Wylie, fully joined the district in 1949.
A bond election was held in 1962 which required the addition of two buildings and other improvements. By 1964, 466 students were enrolled in the district. As Abilene grew and annexed land from Wylie to its school district, Wylie residents voted to become an independent school district in 1968. [4] Butterfield School, located between Caps and View communities, merged with Wylie ISD at 1978 year. [6] The same year, a bond election was held that funded the construction of a new high school campus at 707 Farm Road (South Beltway). [4]
The area continued to grow and in 1984 a new high school (currently the Wylie Intermediate School) opened. A year later, the number of students was 1,550. In 1986, an intermediate campus (now Wylie Primary School) opened on Hardwick Road. In 1994, a larger high school campus on Antillie Road opened, and the previous high school was upgraded to the district’s junior high school. [4]
In 2002, Wylie Schools celebrated the district’s 100th anniversary. At the end of the 2005-2006 school year, Butterfield School closed, reducing the number of schools from six to five. [6] At the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, 5th and 6th grades were transferred from middle and junior high, respectively, to the newly built high school on the South Ring Highway adjacent to the high school. Now Wylie is rapidly expanding and building new campuses.

History
A small school served the town of Wylie in the 1890s. [5] with little funding, primarily from the parents of school students. Thomas Franklin Birmingham noticed this problem while traveling and founded Wylie ISD in 1901–1902. He established county limits whereby all citizens in the area would pay taxes to maintain the county. The Birmingham family gave money to build a decent high school. Since then, the Birmingham family has set up various land trusts. [6] to fund areas of the district’s curriculum, as well as scholarships for the top 22 alumni. The city and borough honored him and his family with Birmingham Primary School and the streets, among other things.
In 2007, Wiley East Middle School opened for the 2007-2008 school year. In 2009, the school was rated “Exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency. [4]
In the summer of 2015, all Wylie ISD campuses were renovated to meet the demands of the 21st century.
The most recent school to be built was George Bush Elementary School, which opened the start of the 2016-2017 school year.
Standard Dress
As of the 2006-2007 school year, all Wylie ISD students in grades 5-12 were required to conform to a standardized dress code that is similar to a school uniform. [7] For the 2007-2008 school year, the dress code remained largely unchanged, except that hoodies were not accepted. The dress code called for a tucked-in solid-colored polo, turtleneck, or button-down shirt. The bottom must be trousers, shorts or a skirt paired with a khaki, black or navy blue belt.
In 2011, the Wylie ISD School Board officially changed its policy to allow hooded sweatshirts, studded trousers, cargo pants, colored belts and drawstrings. In 2017, the dress code was changed again to allow all hoodies, shirts without tucks, and mock turtlenecks.
