Milton Academy – Milton Academy,
Address: 170 Center Street, Milton, MA 02186
Director: Todd Bland
Founded: 1798
School status: mixed education
Education: from 9th to 12th grade. Accommodation at the school is possible from the 9th year of study.
Number of students: 705 people, 50% boys, 50% girls, 78 people are foreigners. The residence is home to 325 students.
Location Milton Academy
The school is located in Massachusetts, eight miles south of Boston and covers an area of 125 acres (approximately 50.6 hectares).
School Milton Academy
Milton Academy was founded in 1798 as a coeducational day school. After a hundred years of operation, the academy was divided into a boys’ school and a girls’ school. For many years, these were completely separate schools with their own teachers, infrastructure and government. Today, the school has returned to a co-educational system. Preparation for entering the university is the main goal of the curriculum.
The Milton School develops in students an interest in learning, creative and critical thinking, the ability to express their ideas, which allows them to achieve significant success in life. Both categories of students, both day and school residents, take the initiative and participate in all aspects of school life.
Studying at Milton Academy
Academy Admission: Standardized SSAT test scores are required for admission. Grade 11 applicants may submit PSAT or SAT-I Reasoning Test results in lieu of SSAT. Students whose native language is not English are also required to provide TOEFL scores.
Curriculum: classes are held in small classes, with a maximum of 14 people, and therefore teachers in the classroom pay attention to each student.
The training is based on discussions, not lectures. In the process of active and excited discussion, students make conclusions and discoveries that they did not know about before. Written projects and tests are also practiced. Teachers help students during and after class. Each small group of students has its own consultant throughout the years of study.
A distinctive feature of the Milton school program is that students will be prepared for the AP (Advanced Placement) exams, not only in the main courses, but also in those that do not have a mark (AP). In fact, the program in the final year of study in many disciplines is more complex and rich than the AP programs.
Arts at Milton Academy
Classes in music, drama and visual arts are held in classrooms under the guidance of talented teachers. Art classes also go beyond the walls of the classrooms and take place in different places, both on the school grounds and outside.
The Milton Academy believes that every student can be a musician, artist or artist. The school believes that the arts contribute to personal growth, creative thinking and confidence in all areas of life. Students study for hours with teachers who apply a variety of teaching methods and develop the talents and basic skills of students.
Music: The Milton Music program is designed for beginners as well as experienced players. It includes choral, instrumental and jazz classes, as well as courses in music theory and history. Students can also earn credits for private lessons with professional musicians from Greater Boston or classes at a conservatory in New England. School orchestras tour the eastern United States and Canada with concerts. The chamber orchestra has performed in Prague, England, Ireland, Italy and China, and the school jazz ensemble has performed in Florida, California and South Africa. The school also has a flute choir and several jazz bands.
Milton has a deep choral tradition. The Glee Glee Club is one of the oldest in the school. The group of chamber singers has earned several gold medals from the American Choral Association (ACDA – American Choral Directors Association) and performed at the eastern conference of the association. In recent years, this group has toured in Romania, Kenya, England, Ireland and the northeastern United States.
Performing Arts: Milton’s Performing Arts program develops students’ creativity and imagination. Performance, Theory, and Performance Design courses are very much like labs where students can experiment, take risks, and explore their abilities. The program is designed for students of all ages and with different levels in this discipline.
Each year, the academy hosts four main productions, two dance shows and three plays that help students hone their skills in performing disciplines, choreography, design and acting techniques in a real creative environment.
Fine Arts: Milton develops high-level artistic skills in numerous fine arts courses. Students are taught to “see more”, think creatively, express their ideas vigorously, use criticism for personal growth, and expect every work to be featured in an exhibition.
No student can express their thoughts clearly and correctly without learning visual language. School students ask and answer important questions about themselves and their world, and art is the tool they use.
Sports at Milton Academy
All students of the Milton Academy participate in various sports activities as part of the curriculum and in their free time. Milton’s philosophy is that sports activity is one of the signs of intelligence that should be developed like any other.
For athletes interested in participating in the Interscholastic Games, Milton has three levels of competition across multiple sports. Experienced coaches work with students at all stages of sports. The Academy helps individual athletes and teams provide a foundation for personal growth that comes from healthy competition and teamwork.
Milton is in the Independent School League (ISL – Independent School League), which includes 16 independent schools and which has a long sports tradition. The organization’s member schools are located in Greater Boston, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Competitions between schools take place throughout the school year. ISL is well known for its hockey teams, with perhaps the strongest high school hockey teams. In addition to hockey, the league has strong football teams, field hockey, American football, squash, wrestling, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis, track and field and some other sports teams.
Milton students also participate in non-ISL sports such as sailing and swimming.
Milton emphasizes the development of physical activity skills in all physical education courses.
Autumn sports: cross-country running, field hockey, football, soccer, volleyball.
Winter sports: basketball, hockey, skiing, squash, swimming, wrestling.
Spring sports: baseball, soft, lacrosse, sailing, golf, tennis, athletics.
The academy has three large sports complexes and 13 open areas for various sports.

Milton Academy also has a snack bar available to students. By prior arrangement, special events can be held outside of its normal opening hours.
Accommodation at Milton Academy
325 students from the USA and around the world live in eight comfortable hostels (4 for boys, 4 for girls) of a family type.
Students live in the same dormitory throughout their years of study. Older children, living in the same hostel with the younger ones, provide them with all-round assistance and support. Families of teachers with pets also live in school dormitories. Experienced and caring educators temporarily become the “parents” of students.
Each hostel is designed for 31 – 48 people. Accommodation can be single, double or triple. “Family” dinners with educators living in the school are held three times a week. Every Sunday services and sacred music concerts are held in the ecumenical Catholic chapel. All children stay in touch with their home through telephone and email access in each hostel.
