After a review of our learning at November’s Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum visit, this month’s GATE session, at WCS, continued the exploration of Inuit culture. Students assembled snow goggles in the morning and spent time in the afternoon learning about what Inuit people eat, how they stay warm, traditional Inuit homes and way of life, as well as the relationship between Inuit people and animals. We began a knot tying activity that we will continue next time we meet in January when we plan to further explore Inuit culture and traditions.

BMS is doing monthly character building themes and activities. November’s theme was gratitude. BMS students donated 616 cans to the Bath Area Food Bank as part of way to spread gratitude beyond our school doors! We had a handful of students who took a trip to the BAFB today to unload and organize our school’s donation.

Morse football won the 8-Man Large North MPA Good Sportsmanship Award this fall. This past season each team was asked to select an opponent they felt was most deserving of receiving a sportsmanship award. Each school selected to receive this banner has displayed respect, fair play, honesty, and a love for the game. Morse football is very deserving of this award, which is reflective of the players and coaches in the program.

HYDE SCHOOL | Student Travel Education

GENERAL INFORMATION

Type of education: Medium
Type of school: School
Status: Private
State: Men
City: baht
Founded: 1966
Number of campuses: 1
Proposed accommodation : Residence, host family

Hyde is a preparatory school that emphasizes character development through competition, diligence and family. The school administration has come to the conclusion that the most successful international students are those who strive not only to study in the classroom, but also to study the culture of the United States through activities. They require all students to take part in three athletic programs each year, to be involved in the performing arts program, as well as community service. The all-round development of the student is the most important task for the school. nine0003

The school is just 30 minutes north of Portland, Maine, home to the small but lovely Portland International Jetport with daily flights to some of the major US cities including New York, Chicago and Washington. We are also fortunate to be just 2 hours from Boston’s Logan International Airport. There is a bus that departs from Portland and goes directly to Boston’s Logan International Airport several times a day, and a bus that goes through New York and Portland, Maine several times a day. nine0003

Hyde’s carefully crafted college prep schedule is designed to ensure that students succeed in college and in their careers and lives after Hyde. Classes are small, student-centered and interesting – the school often sees students discussing the material studied long after the last lesson has ended. Over the past 5 years, 98% of the graduates of this school entered the university for 4 years of study. The remaining 2% took an academic leave, started working or entered a two-year study at the university. nine0003

At the moment, 27 international students from different countries are studying on the Bath campus, this number is 18% of the total number of students in the school.

Summer Program

The Internship Program is an incredible opportunity for applicants to network with peers at Hyde before enrolling in the fall. nine0003

A study program that can be used to rebuild loans, especially for students who need to make up for lost time or incomplete credit. June is also the time to earn credits for classes that students cannot attend during the year but are interested in.

STEM program with robotics team (winter sports team).

Summer Leadership Challenge is an exciting 4-week program for students and families looking for fun as well as valuable experience. This program includes an academic component while focusing on the personal growth of students through leadership, confidence and new experiences. This program is commonly referred to as an “Intensive Course” which is similar to the academic year at Hyde. nine0003

The American Experience Over the years, it has been found that newly arrived international students failed to excel academically when they were immersed in an academic year without time to adjust to US culture and education. The American Experience (or AmEx) focuses on TOEFL seminars, science sessions involving experiments and observations at local schools, and field trips to nearby cities and university campuses. During the AmEx 2016 program, students participated in whale watching excursions, visited Boston, including MIT and Harvard, explored the local mountains, including hiking and enjoying the very popular local dishes, seafood. nine0003
