Education in the USA, study and education in the USA

New York is one of the largest cities in the world. The city was founded at the beginning of the 17th century by Dutch colonists and until 1664 the city was called “New Amsterdam”.
    Population – 8.5 million people.

    New York Boroughs:

Manhattan. This area of New York is located on the island of the same name, on several small coastal islands and a small part of the mainland. According to legend, this island was bought from the Indians for only … 24 dollars. Manhattan is divided into three parts – Downtown, Midtown and Upper Manhattan. The “iconic” streets of Manhattan are the famous Broadway and the “financial heart” of America – Wall Street.

Harlem – African-American part of New York, formally – also one of the quarters of Manhattan, but located closer to its “upper” part. Harlem stretches to the southeast of the island to the Harlem and East Rivers, on the south side it is limited by 155th and 110th streets, to Central Park, and from the east – 96th street.

Midtown , Midtown Manhattan, roughly between 34th and 59th streets. Midtown, in turn, consists of many famous quarters built up with the highest skyscrapers.

Downtown , 23rd Street, is located in the south of the island. This part of Manhattan was one of the first to be populated by colonists, so there is no geometrically correct street layout inherent in all other parts of the district in Downtown. It is noteworthy that the streets of Downtown have their own names, not numbers.

Another famous quarter is Chinatown . This “China in miniature” occupied the residential areas around Mott Street in southern Manhattan.

Greenwich Village was New York’s artistic mecca at the beginning of the last century. This respectable neighborhood stretches from Houston Street north to 14th Street, and from the Hudson to Broadway. Today’s Greenwich Village is a concentration of theaters, museums and galleries.

South of Houston Street is Soho . Soho has a large number of art workshops and galleries.

The district Little Italy is peculiar, where mainly immigrants from Italy live.

Bronx . This county of New York is the only one that is located exclusively on the mainland. The Bronx area is considered “dormitory”.

Brooklyn . This municipal district of New York is located on Long Island. Brighton Beach is located here – a haven for 30 thousand Soviet emigrants. At the southern tip of Brooklyn, in the Lower New York Bay, is the famous Coney Island quarter, famous for its beach and amusement park.

Queens . This district is the largest in terms of area and the second in terms of population. The number of its inhabitants is almost 2 million people.

Staten Island . Formerly known as Richmond, Staten Island is located on Staten Island.
