Richmond Private School Guide | Style Weekly
With all of the great schools in the area, it’s important to find the one that’s the best fit for your child. In addition to his or her academic needs and a school’s ability to meet them, it’s also good to consider the following factors when selecting a school for your child:
Location/Commute • Learning Environment School Philosophy • Area(s) of Special Emphasis Size/Composition of Student Body • Tuition/Financial Assistance Programs
Many of today’s independent schools can offer your child a wealth of learning opportunities. From small student/teacher ratios and specialized programs, to religious instruction and same-sex classrooms, these academic centers are as unique and promising as the children who attend them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions about law schools in Virginia:
Q: Is there a good law school at Virginia Tech?
Virginia Tech is known for many things, but not for law. It’s a sad fact that VT has yet to establish a reputable law school, or any for that matter.
While the school has only recently laid the groundwork for a full-fledged medical school, a law school seems to be somewhere on the horizon but has yet to be opened.
It does not have a law school, but it does have a preparatory law program that many students choose while still in college.
VT has announced joint programs with other colleges (Appalachian State University, University of Richmond, etc.), but they don’t seem to be making much progress in creating their own.
This isn’t to say it’s a terrible decision for a student who wants to practice law after graduation, but you won’t be allowed to do so at VT. On an ongoing basis.
Question: What degree did Thomas Jefferson have?
Contrary to other answers here, Jefferson never “graduated” from any college or received any degree. In his time, gentlemen of the level of his family did not do such things.
After all, he was a well-educated man. Under the tutelage of a succession of local ministers, he studied Latin, Greek, and French, among other disciplines.
He moved to Willamsburg, Virginia at the age of 17 to attend the College of William and Mary for two years. At the time, William and Mary’s only degrees were for professors or clergy, jobs that were not suitable for a member of his class.
He studied law for five years with George White after completing his studies at William & Mary under Dr. Small, which led to his admission to the bar. This job did not require a law degree.
Because “degrees” were not professional qualifications for professions outside the university or church, Jefferson saw little use for them.
He advised his son-in-law not to send his grandson for an academic degree, as there was little point in “sewing initials onto a name”. Indeed, Jefferson never used any of the 4 honorary degrees he received to identify himself.
Jefferson was very well educated for a man of his time and continued to learn throughout his long life, but he testifies that taking a course of study and being an educated person are two different things.
Q: What are the best reasons to get into the University of Richmond?
The University of Richmond is a fantastic school and success in getting a STEM degree can increase your chances of earning significantly more than the average.
I have always given the same advice to international students about the financial commitment these universities require.
If your family has a way to pay without having a significant impact on their daily lives and without taking out a loan that is larger than their non-essential assets, do it. Consider it an investment with a decent rate of return.
In addition, let me add that many international students prefer to work and study during the summer. And some of these summer classes are well paid (although they tend to be pretty competitive).
So if you have a job or an internship during the summer, you can make your family a little easier. But at the end of the day, your family knows they can pay the best.
And if it’s really hard to pay, you don’t have to commit. There are always more possibilities.
Q: How do I get a bar exam without going to Virginia Law School?
You can even get a BAR without going to law school for at least a year.
If you mean the latter, if you are eligible to take the BAR exam, theoretically you should be able to take it in any state, no matter where you went to law school.
I’m using this word hypothetically since I never went to college, let alone law school. I hope this has given you the answer to your question. America, God bless you.
Question: Bachelor’s degree from Washington and Lee University, Virginia (2017)?
Washington and Lee University is a private liberal arts college in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia that is considered to be in a rural area. But don’t think “rural” in the sense of “agriculture”; it’s literally in the middle of nowhere.
Once you leave Lexington’s city limits, you’ll find yourself in the middle of nothing, surrounded by forests and lush fields. When people think of Virginia, they most likely think of the DC metro area.
However, Lexington, Virginia is far from any city and is considered part of West/South Virginia.
So expect to find numerous Confederate flags still flying in some people’s windows and people still clinging to their traditional Southern ideals, especially among students (no judgment here, to each his own).
The school is predominantly Caucasian and lacks diversity both racially and economically as most students come from wealthy or upper middle income families.
On the other hand, the University of Washington is located in Seattle, which, of course, is an urban area that certainly has more diversity than Lexington.
Although I have never attended the University of Washington, I can imagine that the student body is much more diverse than W&L as it is a public university that attracts people of different demographics.
In addition, the institution itself is considered a major research university, as it has several graduate schools / programs, all of which are highly ranked, while W&L is a small liberal arts college specializing in undergraduate studies.
The study of law in the United States is very different from the study of law in many other countries. Law is a professional academic field, which in Virginia is equivalent to a degree.
In addition, law schools in Virginia are part of public or private colleges offering Juris Doctor (JD) degrees. As a result, full-time students typically take three years to earn a J.D. degree, while part-time students take four years.
Finally, because of core coursework, exams, and the Socratic method, the first year of law school is usually considered the most challenging.
