Pre-school education

Material Information
Category: Education

Pre-school education in Serbia (Preschool education) is divided into:

    • Nursery (Jasle or Jaslice) – for children from 6 months to 3 years
    • Kindergarten (Vrtiћ) – for children from 3 years old to school

The kindergarten provides a program for a five-day stay of the child 24 hours 5 days a week (borawak pet day). There is also a group for children with developmental disabilities (different group).

Parents can send their child to nursery and kindergarten if they wish.

Nursery and kindergarten may be private or public.

The right to public nursery and kindergarten Russian citizens who have a residence permit in Serbia , have the same status as citizens of Serbia.

For admission to the state nursery and kindergarten, it is necessary to take it from April to May to the central preschool institution (in Novi Sad it is Predshkola Ustanov “Joyful Childhood”, located at the address: Novi Sad, Pavle Simiћ st. 9) for passing the competition the following documents:

    • Birth certificate of a child entering kindergarten, as well as birth certificates of all other children
    • Pediatrician’s note and throat and nose swab
    • Application (in which you can indicate the choice of up to 3 kindergartens)
    • For working parents – a certificate from the Pension Fund (PIO) on the accrual of work experience (for each working parent)
    • For student parents – a certificate of study for the current year

After passing the competition, the child can go to kindergarten from September or later.

Kindergarten is paid for both Serbs and foreigners, and the cost depends on the city. In Novi Sad, parents pay only 20% of the total cost, which is approximately 1500 – 1800 dinars per month, and 80% is paid by the city. In Chachak, the cost of staying is no more than 4,000 dinars per month, the rest of the amount is also paid by the city. In Belgrade, parents pay the full amount for kindergarten, which is at least 13,000 dinars per month, depending on the kindergarten.

You can apply for a private kindergarten at any time in any kindergarten you like. Please bring the following documents:

    • Child’s birth certificate
    • Pediatrician’s note and throat and nose swab
    • Application

The list of required documents in each private kindergarten may be different.

Enrollment occurs immediately after submission of all documents.

The cost is from 60 euros to 300 euros per month, depending on the length of stay (half day or full day) and the chosen kindergarten.

Compulsory preparatory program for school.

One year prior to school entry, a compulsory school preparatory program begins, which lasts at least 9 months for 4 hours a day (take pre-school half-day program) or 11 hours a day (take preschool full-day program), for children aged from 5.5 to 6.5 years.

The preparatory program for Russian citizens with a residence permit in Serbia is free and compulsory.

The obligatory preparatory program for school takes place in the kindergarten only at the place of residence.

If the child did not go to kindergarten, then before the start of the preparatory program, parents are sent an announcement about the start of the submission of documents. Applications are usually submitted in April, and the program begins in September.

In any case, whether the child went to kindergarten before or did not go, the following documents must be submitted to the kindergarten at the place of residence:

    • Child’s birth certificate
    • Pediatrician’s note and throat and nose swab
    • Application

Kindergarten in Serbia. Personal experience.

If you have moved to Serbia with children, then you will inevitably face the question of placing your children in kindergarten and school.

There are public and private kindergartens. There are queues in public kindergartens in Serbia, and if you need to send your child to kindergarten very quickly, then you should look for private providers. Oksana Voronyanskaya talks about such searches in her blog about Serbian life Sofitravel.

There are quite a lot of kindergartens in Novi Novi Sad. The author of the article got acquainted with the work of only four Zmai, Speak up, Madagascar, Miracle Land. None of them lived up to expectations.

In one of them the children were seated in the morning to watch cartoons on TV. The construction of a house was unfolding next to another, the other was far away, the fourth was very cramped and on the first floor of the house. And in Serbia, it is cool on the first floors in winter. A car park has also been converted into a playground. That is, children’s swings, slides and sandboxes were laid out right on the pavement.

Next on the list was a kindergarten called Happy Place. It was located near a large park in a separate mansion. It appears to have been recently renovated. The director was kind and welcoming. I liked the garden and it was decided that the child would go there. Unfortunately, the kindergarten did not provide for an adaptation program – this is when parents stay indoors with their children for some time until they get used to the new environment and the child was taken away from the crying hands.

The next day Sophia was crying again and she was again taken to the group almost by force. Mom had an agreement with the caregivers that if something went wrong, they would call her. But no one called. Therefore, on the third day, as soon as the inconsolable girl was dragged away from her mother, her mother decided after a while to see what was happening there.

She saw how two teachers were standing and talking to each other, and between them Sophia was running and crying. She asked to call her mother, but no one paid attention to her. Mom immediately took the child from this kindergarten. It was stressful for the baby and it seemed that there were no more options.

And then I came across information about a kindergarten in Kamenyar. The kindergarten had a website, everything looked beautiful compared to other kindergartens, but it was also expensive – 300 euros per month.

The next day there was a tour of the kindergarten and the parents could not believe that it was possible, and even in Serbia.

The outer garden looked like a star hotel with beautiful white painted wrought iron gates. Then the visitors saw tennis courts in a huge green area, where the landscape designer obviously worked.

The garden hotel was located on the picturesque banks of the Danube. But it was not enclosed by a fence or bars.
