On the morning of May 24, a school shooting occurred in another city in the state, Uvalde. The attack was carried out by an 18-year-old school student, Salvador Ramos, armed with a pistol and a rifle. He died during his arrest. The incident killed 19children and three adults.

US President Joe Biden, speaking to Congress after the tragedy, said that it is necessary to confront the “gun lobby”, since over 900 mass shootings have occurred in the United States over the past ten years. The Associated Press called the Uvalda shooting the worst in terms of the number of people killed since the 2012 incident at a Connecticut school that killed 20 children and six adults.
