The Facilities team will lead the Board in a district-wide attendance zoning exercise during the Dec. 16 Board of Trustees meeting. The exercise will show how the district could maximize building utilization to manage growth, moving approximately 10,000 students from the assigned school to reduce the need for new schools. Street Directory Listing

The Leander ISD Street Directory Listing enables families to find the school that their student(s) are zoned to attend. To locate this information, please search the document linked above for your street name. The directory listing contains street names, address ranges, and direction if it applies (i.e. N for north, S for South) as well as a column indicating Odd, Even or Both. In some cases you will find that a street name and number will attend a particular school based on the street number being odd or even.

Year to year, there are changes in the attendance zones once approved by the LISD Board of Trustees. Please refer to the Street Directory Listing to see which school your student is zoned to attend. The approved attendance zones maps are listed below.

Attendance Zoning FAQs

How does Leander ISD determine attendance boundaries?

Each October, Leander ISD receives an annual demographic update from Population and Survey Analysts (PASA). By studying student residential locations, potential growth and decline, housing trends, and economic factors inherent to the district. PASA studied the expected long‐term trends for the district, and created a dataset to use in planning for the next 10 years. Attendance Zoning Recommendations:

  • Must provide for safety and efficiency.
  • Shall not be constrained by previous attendance zone actions or guidelines.
  • Shall not be constrained by the current boundary lines.
  • Utilize the enrollment projections, construction schedules, and other pertinent data as a basis for development.
  • Wherever possible, should include balanced enrollment sizes at existing campuses (and considering campus capacities) in preference to opening new buildings.
  • Neighborhood code designations may only be adjusted by administration.

What is the Board Review process?

The Board process is as follows (Flow Chart Graphic):

  1. District staff facilitate community discussion and feedback collection regarding project charter, defining the core values. Core values are the considerations or preferences included in a zoning change. The values could include, but are not limited to: 
    • maintaining feeder patterns
    • relieving overcrowded schools
    • balancing enrollments; or
    • minimizing changes for students.
  2. District staff summarize charter feedback and present to the Board for review.
  3. Board approves project charter.
  4. District staff build possible attendance zoning scenarios and facilitate community discussion and feedback collection on each scenario.
  5. District staff publish scenario for public comment, including community forums.
  6. District staff provides recommendation report to the Board.
  7. Board reviews and adopts final zoning that will take effect for the 2021–22 school year.

How are final decisions made?

The Board will evaluate presented scenarios, taking into consideration necessary criteria and feedback from the public/community. Upon completion of this process, the Board will adopt the school attendance zones.

How can I share input on zoning changes?

In an effort to increase the opportunities for community members and/or parents, the District is providing the following methods for feedback:

If we are rezoned, will this be the only time?

Leander ISD will continue to open schools to meet the needs of student enrollment growth. The district will always try to not move students within the same grade group (elementary, high school, middle school) more than twice in a two-year period.

If I am rezoned, will I be able to choose to stay at my current school?

A formal decision on transfer policy is made at the end of the zoning process when the Board adopts a new zone for the 2021–2022 school year.

Historically, for elementary school zoning changes, the policy has allowed 2020–2021 4th-grade students, and their siblings, to apply for a transfer and remain at their 2020–2021 zoned campus for the first year the new zoning takes effect (2021–2022). Parents would be required to provide transportation for their transfer students.

Any transfer exceptions regarding these potential zoning changes will be discussed and adopted along with the zoning scenario.

How is UIL eligibility affected by rezoning, especially if a student is granted a transfer back to  his/her previous campus?

Students zoned to a new campus have no issues being eligible to immediately participate in UIL activities for that school.

Similarly, if a student is granted a transfer back to their former (as opposed to their assigned) campus, UIL participation eligibility will be unaffected so long as the student has completed a year of study at that campus.

If a freshman student is granted a voluntary transfer to a campus other than the one they are assigned, per LISD transfer guidelines, they are ineligible to participate in competitions for one calendar year. After a year at the campus, they are eligible to play at the varsity level.

Why can’t LISD align feeder patterns, let students attend schools close to home AND balance enrollments?

While we work to achieve these three priorities that our community has deemed most important, that simply isn’t possible in most of the district.

For example, if you relieve overcrowding at one school, you could create a split feeder pattern or send students to a school farther from their neighborhood. In developing the proposed plan, LISD sought to balance each priority as best as possible.

What potential issues would an over-enrolled school have?

Overcrowded schools create a higher need for portable buildings and lead to other adjustments, such as crowded and mixed grade level lunch periods and hallways; increased number of academic teams; and impacts to participation on competitive teams and performance groups.

When school enrollments exceed the building’s capacity, LISD may need to adjust school administrative staffing, traffic patterns and safety protocols.

    Solitude and association. A little bit about school space zoning

    Buy or repair desks, chairs, equipment, check the quality of the carried out (major or cosmetic) repairs, and, possibly, rush the builders – in the summer and especially in August, school management has a lot of household chores. It is necessary that by September 1 the school be updated, shine with cleanliness and please the eyes of schoolchildren and their parents. “Clean and tidy” is, of course, good, but “clean and tidy” is not everything.

    As we have already mentioned, 33dodo specialists conducted a study of the design of the educational space in one of the schools, which consisted of several parts:
    – interactive part – students noted on specially prepared and printed moodboard (collages) those design options (including color preferences) of various school spaces that they consider preferable,
    – conducting a survey (filling out a questionnaire). In total, 161 students of grades 5-10 took part in the survey.

    The time outside the lessons that students spend at school is filled with various activities: someone wants to actively relax (including play), someone wants to be in silence, and someone, on the contrary, in a big company (Again – either relax or work on a joint project). These main areas of activity were chosen by the company’s specialists based on the experience of communicating with schoolchildren in the process of implementing projects for the design of school space in various educational organizations.

    How relevant is the existence of separate rooms (spaces) in schools for different activities and is there such a problem as the absence of these spaces? To test these hypotheses, the questionnaire proposed several relevant statements. For each statement, students were asked to choose one of the three proposed options:
    – “yes, such a place exists” (specify it),
    – “no, such a place does not exist” (indicate which place is used in this case),
    – in a number of cases, a third option was provided – “there is no need for such a place (or I find it difficult to answer)”.

    Below are some of the results of the study. They are commented by Raya Ivanovskaya, head of the 33dodo design studio, an expert in the design of educational space.

    Statement 1: “There is a place at school where I can be alone / alone (for example, read or just sit in silence”

    In the answer “yes” (32%), the majority of children indicated the hall or some an office or a space near a particular office, a library. The answer “no” (33%) also often indicated a hall and other premises (recreation, an office), sometimes a house. The third option – “no need” – was chosen by 35% students

    – The responses received allow us to draw attention to the fact that some school spaces are considered by students in two ways, – says Raya Ivanovskaya. – These spaces, according to some schoolchildren, are quite suitable for spending free time “in silence” in them, and other students spend their time in these spaces, while noting that this is a “forced” measure for them. Also, when analyzing the answers, it was noted that students in grades 5 and 6, for the most part, indicated the first option of the answer – “yes, there is such a place” (almost 47% of students in these grades). And in the 7th and 8th grades, the majority marked the option “no, there is no such place” (almost 46% of students in these grades). Perhaps this suggests that the older students get, the more they feel the need for places where they can be “in silence”, in some unique modern space suitable for this purpose. What solutions are offered in this case in foreign schools? There, either in large recreations, cabins-houses (with glass doors) for 2-3 people are installed, or they simply make special recesses in the wall like a grotto. And even if the last option does not solve the problem of silence, such a “nook” still psychologically allows the child to feel solitude. Remember, many of us as children built a house of chairs and sheets in the room? The very feeling of solitude is sometimes more important than real solitude. So far, unfortunately, Russian schools not only do not think about any such solutions, but do not even see the need to raise such a question. Although one more argument can be made here: to the statement “There is a place in the school where I can prepare for the lesson”, 44.4% of the students answered “yes”, and a little more than 55% – “no”. The most popular places for repeating the lesson in both the first and second cases are the corridors/recreations, then the study/classroom.

    Statement 2: “There is a place at school where we can spend time together with a big company, for example, relax”

    Disclosing their answers, in the first case (the “yes” option for 69% of respondents), most often schoolchildren indicated: recreation and corridors, as well as a dining room and an assembly hall.
    The most popular places indicated in the option “no, there is no such place” (8%): ​​street, corridors and recreation. And the option “no need/difficult to answer” was chosen by 23% of students.

    – The received answers did not bring any special surprises, – says Raya Ivanovskaya. – As we have always believed, the guys have a rest, first of all, at breaks and precisely in recreations (corridors). But it again makes us think about how these spaces really help to relax. More than once I said that the bare walls and a couple of chairs that were taken out into the hallway from the classroom (that is, these are the same student chairs on which the children spent the last 45 minutes) are not the kind of space that is conducive to relaxation. Atmosphere! The atmosphere in the classroom, where they study, and in the recreation, where they rest, should be different. Let this atmosphere be created by shelves with books (the guys themselves can bring different books and share them with each other), let there be comfortable sofas and ottomans (so that there is an opportunity to relax, even “spread on the sofa”). Don’t want them to draw on the walls? Place a marker sheet or paint part of the wall with special paint so that you can write or draw with a marker or chalk. The main thing is that they have a place where they can express themselves, throw out emotions.

    Statement 3: “There is a place in the school where we can spend time together with a large group and work (for example, on a group project)”

    Most frequently mentioned places in the answer “yes, there is such a place” (50%) : library, classroom or class teacher’s office, as well as a hall / corridor. Noting that “there is no such place” (18%), young respondents sometimes specified that such activities could be carried out at home, in an office/classroom. 32% of students found it difficult to answer or chose the option “There is no need for such a place”.

    – As we can see, for group work, the class teacher’s office or another free office is most often used, – notes Raya Ivanovskaya, – in total, almost 19% of the students answered this way, but not all of them consider this place “convenient” or “intended” for group work, in second place is the library. I also do not consider the study room a convenient place for group work. There are the same desks, the same chairs, and the same walls … in general, the same atmosphere that surrounds children in the classroom. And “lesson” and “group project work” are again different things. Here, rather, there should be a solution in the style of “coworking” – tables and chairs that can be moved, pouffes, a flipchart, a projector, etc. It should be a free, light space, conducive to communication and reflection, the manifestation of creativity. Yes, even just by placing light tables and comfortable chairs in recreations, you will already create additional space that children can actively use, including for such types of group activities.

    I would like to separately note that the results obtained by us were also confirmed in studies conducted by specialists from other companies. Experts from the HSE School of Design, NRU MGSU, the Prosveshchenie Group of Companies, and representatives of other organizations — experts in the field of design of educational spaces.

    Summing up the results of the seminar, the experts noted that by 2024, 2,000 new schools will have to be built in Russia and major repairs will be carried out in 5,000 buildings where the minimum conditions for education are not provided. This will solve the problem of the second and third shifts. But something else is also important. A modern school is not only the usual lessons, but also lectures, independent work, collective projects, various events for children of different ages. For such forms of work, a different design of educational spaces is needed, and all participants in the educational process should be involved in their design.

    By constructing and designing the space of a school in a meaningful way, it is possible to fundamentally change its psychological atmosphere and the involvement of students and teachers.

    Arranging the nursery for the school year should start with the correct zoning. Considering that the child spends most of his time in his room, it is necessary to correctly divide it into zones: study, play and recreation area. It is necessary to plan the arrangement of furniture from the workplace – the desk. It is best placed by the window to get maximum natural light, says Alla Zorina, lead designer of the Tvoy Dom online store.

    “It is important to make sure that the bright rays of the sun do not interfere with concentration – install pleated blinds (blinds) or roller blinds. The workplace can be separated from the gaming, sleeping area with a light screen, for example, made of rice paper, textile curtains, a bookcase with books, a special plasterboard construction or a Swedish wall,” advises the designer.

    It would not be superfluous to carry out a general cleaning in the room by September 1, remove unnecessary things and make room for new things. You can refresh the room: re-paste the wallpaper, buy furniture, paying attention to color.

That is why an important aspect in preparing a children’s room for the school year is the correct ergonomic construction. First of all, this is a clear separation of the study area from the recreation area and the play area. The study area is a place where there is a desk and a cabinet for books, notebooks and textbooks.

    Pay particular attention to ease of access to the study area. If your child is active and likes to move around during the day, consider a height-adjustable table, an electric table, or a manual table. Such furniture allows you to alternate sitting and standing modes of operation, having a beneficial effect on posture.

    Choosing a color

    When choosing the color scheme for a schoolchild’s room, one should remember the strong influence of color on the child’s emotional state. The light colors of the walls and wallpaper are optimal for the nursery – they create an atmosphere of calm and help to visually enlarge the space. “Such basic colors can be safely attributed milky, pearl, gray harbor and sand. At the same time, excessive whiteness should be avoided – the eyes get tired of it, and the achromatic scale (black, gray) causes mental stress, ”Alla Zorina gives examples.

    For each zone, you should choose your own shade: it is better to study in a lighter one, play in a saturated zone, and sleep in calm, muted colors. An accent wall can be made behind the child’s back (relative to the workplace) so as not to be distracting during lessons. Bright colors are best used in details – it can be curtains, a carpet, a poster.

    When choosing a color scheme and general style, you need to consult with the child who will live in this room. “If the child has a favorite color, it can be used in the interior design of the room. At the same time, it should be taken into account that it is better to make intense color as small accents, and make more neutral options as the main background, ”advised architect Andrei Stube.

    “It also happens that a child only dreams of a huge image of Spider-Man… But the hobby may change tomorrow, and the parents have no desire to constantly re-paste the wallpaper. In this case, a collection of posters or one large image that can be hung on the wall would be a great option,” he added.

    Lighting for the student’s room

    Light is an important part of the student’s room. There should be a lot of it: it is better to distribute spotlights and track lights around the entire perimeter of the room, so you can eliminate eye strain in any area. To create the right lighting for the work area, you can use table and wall lamps.

    “The eyes of a child should be comfortable, the eyesight should not get tired either from weak light or from excessively bright color hitting the eyes. Table lighting should be directed on the left side for a right-handed child and on the right side for a left-handed child, adjustable in height depending on the type of activity and the height of the child, ”said Inna Kaminskaya, designer, founder of the Grande Familia (iRoomproject) studio.

    If the windows face north, daylight can be improved by using various surfaces in the interior that reflect sunlight. “In addition to the ceiling light, it is necessary to highlight the workplace and recreation area. Table lamps with flexible legs that easily change position do an excellent job with this task. The power of the light bulb itself should be 60–100 W, ”said the leading designer of the Tvoy Dom online store.

    A night light is suitable for the sleeping and relaxing area, the soft light of which will help you fall asleep quickly. Now brands offer a variety of options for such lamps, both in shape and style. In addition, it can become a fashionable addition to the interior of the nursery.

    Study area: choosing a desk

    After the room has been zoned and the color and light have been determined, furniture can be chosen. One of the most important elements here is the desktop. The presence of natural light is a big plus, so it is better to put the table closer to the window.

    Designers recommend making it spacious. There are many options for placing the desktop in the room: a window sill table, a table under the window, a table to the side of the window, butt to the wall with the possibility of bypassing on three sides, a transformer table.     “Every decision has its own nuances. For example, when planning a table that is a continuation of the window sill, it should be remembered that hot air from the heating radiator should go up to the window, and not to the child’s feet. In order to sit comfortably at such a table, it is necessary to make holes in the table top above the radiator,” Andrei Stube noted.

    When choosing a worktop material, look for easy-care, durable materials. Ballpoint pen marks and dents should not remain on the surface of the table, the expert added.

    Furniture-transformer and loft bed

    The set of furniture in the student’s room and its placement should be well thought out. It should not only look nice, but first of all, it should suit the child in terms of height and age, and also be combined in color with the interior. “When children sit at the table, they should feel the floor with their feet, this gives them psychological stability. If the legs are dangling, it is difficult for the child to sit still, as well as to assume the posture and position that will be necessary for concentration. The child is growing, so it is better to have an adjustable chair and table,” said Inna Kaminskaya.

    When preparing a room for a student, designers recommend paying attention to transforming furniture. For example, two items in one: a horizontal folding bed that turns into a desk. “An interesting solution is furniture that “grows” with the child. There are a variety of options for desks and chairs. They are well designed and provide the right fit. There are even options for both sitting and standing. However, with all the many advantages of such furniture, it usually has a high cost,” Andrey Stube said.

    If the room is small, you can use a loft bed, under which the workplace is located. Such furniture can be easily found from a large number of manufacturers, in a variety of price categories and designs. The “office” of the student requires a lot of storage space. There are many options here too. For example, for books, you can use shelves, racks or cabinets.

    “Containers, boxes with lids are suitable for storing useful little things. The surface of the table from stationery will help free hanging pockets, drawers and baskets mounted on the railing. Each such element can be signed so that the student can quickly orient himself and get used to order, ”designer Alla Zorina gave examples of storing things.

    A note board, a comfortable chair with adjustments, preferably with armrests, will also come in handy. You also need a convenient closet where the child’s things and school uniforms will be stored. In this case, there are also many options: a wardrobe as part of a children’s headset or a regular wardrobe. The interior itself can be diluted with decor items: favorite toys, photographs or live plants. The main thing is to observe the measure and not litter the space.

    Amendments were made to the zoning scheme of the territories of the Polevskiy district

    The Commission for Land Use and Development has approved the change of zoning of the territories of Polevskoy urban district.

    The meeting of the commission on amendments to the Rules for Land Use and Development of the Polevsk City District was held on July 2. About a dozen proposals were considered to establish the territorial zone of land plots in the villages of Station-Polevskoy, Zeleny Log and the map of urban planning zoning of the territory of the Polevskiy urban district outside the boundaries of settlements.

    boundaries and town planning regulations. Each plot belongs to one specific territorial zone. Thus, the territorial zone of a land plot is an important characteristic of a plot that determines its possible use and development options. In our district, territorial zones are determined on the basis of the Rules for Land Use and Development of the Polevsk Urban District.

    – To date, there have been uncoordinated actions in a number of departments. For example, land plots that were located simultaneously in two or even three territorial zones were put on cadastral registration in Rosreestr. And according to the new legislation, a land allotment cannot be in two zones. Here, for example, is a roadside strip of a highway, and there is residential development. And she gets into this roadside lane. Roads, forests, plots – often there is an overlay of maps, one specified land plots on other specified ones. For example, we have a very serious shift in coordinates along Kurganovo and Zeleniy Log: according to the maps – roads, in fact – forests. And so that every piece of our large map should be put in order, and the commission on land use and development worked today. We decide on a commission how to eliminate these inconsistencies. So that later it would be possible to work normally, so that everyone, opening the cadastral map, could see what kind of site it is, what can be done with it, with all the ensuing consequences, – comments Andrey Fedyunin, First Deputy Head of the Polevskoy District Administration.

    That is, in the Polevsk urban district, a detailed definition of territorial zones is underway, which can be used for a single purpose. This is necessary for the district to develop. After all, if the zones are not defined, then the types of permitted use of land plots are not defined.

    Olga Putina, head of the territorial administration of the village of Stantsionny-Polevskoy, made a proposal to change the configuration of zone Zh1 where there is a swamp in their village, so that in the future it would not happen that people were provided with land unsuitable for construction terrain. And already the specialists of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Administration of the Polevskiy District come forward to the commission with a proposal to exclude the swamp from zone Zh1. And as a result, when voting, the TOP zone unanimously appears on the map.

    And the village of Zeleny Log will acquire some clarifications on the urban zoning map.

    – Once upon a time, the owner purchased a large plot, did not demarcate it, and at the moment is not developing or developing it. In this situation, there are two solutions: the first is to divide the site in accordance with the assigned territorial zones. In this case, the owner must bear the costs. The second way is to assign one territorial zone to the land plot. But will a person today spend money to do this? But we cannot wait: we are running out of time, we must put all zones on cadastral registration by August 1. Therefore, today we are looking at which zone occupies 70% of the total area, and according to it we assign the name to the entire zone, – Andrey Fedyunin explains.
