The school has about 2,000 students, with an 18:1 student-to-teacher ratio. State test scores indicate a 99 percent proficiency in both English and math.

It focuses heavily on college preparation – 98 percent of students graduate. In order to graduate, students must maintain a certain GPA, and pass an advanced class in a foreign language.

Pine View is committed to producing well-rounded students, so extra-curricular – rowing, Model UN, field trips, and volunteer opportunities – are a priority.

The school is less than a 10-minute drive from The Oaks, one of the more luxurious Sarasota neighborhoods. Here, you’ll find beautifully landscaped yards and architecture with Spanish, Mediterranean, and Southern influences. Bay Haven School of Basics Plus

Suncoast Polytechnical High School

Location: 4650 S Beneva Rd, Sarasota, FL

Suncoast Polytechnical is a magnet high school offering a diverse and innovative education for grades 9 to 12.

The school places well above other schools in the district in English and math and has a 92 percent graduation rate. Of the more than 500 students enrolled, about 65 percent participate in Advanced Placement (AP) testing, with more than two-thirds of them passing.

As a technical school, they offer education in fields such as accounting and robotics and individualized attention.

Located in close proximity to Palmer Ranch and all the communities that make up that growing area, and only 15 minutes from downtown Sarasota. Its central location makes it accessible from many residential neighborhoods in the area.

Riverview High School

Centrally located in Sarasota, Riverview draws students from many neighborhoods throughout the Sarasota area. Riverview High School is located on 51 acres in Sarasota, Florida and was established in 1958. The newly renovated campus, which is home to over 2,600 students and 125 teachers, is the largest in the school district.

SARASOTA, FL — Pine View School in Osprey is the top school in Sarasota County, according to a new national ranking by U.S. News and World Report.

This year’s list of best high schools evaluated more than 17,800 schools nationwide, including more than 200 in Florida.

The 2022 ranking of best high schools is intended to show how well the nation’s public schools serve all students, regardless of achievement level, by teaching them basic skills and preparing them for college-level work, according to a news release from U. S. News.

While thousands of schools were evaluated, these Sarasota County schools were ranked among the top in Florida, according to U.S. News:

• Pine View School, Osprey. Ranked No. 2 in Florida
• Suncoast Polytechnical High School, Sarasota. Ranked No. 59 in Florida
• Riverview High School, Sarasota. Ranked No. 80 in Florida
• Venice Senior High School, Venice. Ranked No. 150 in Florida

This year’s schools were ranked on six measures: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment performance, state assessment proficiency, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance and graduation rates.

The data used in this year’s ranking is from the 2019-20 academic school year. U.S. News adjusted its calculation of these measures to account for the impact COVID-19 had on schools in the 2019-20 school year.

Since most states closed schools for in-person instruction starting in March 2020 — typically just before most states conduct assessments — the U.S. Department of Education granted waivers allowing all states to forgo state testing for the 2019-20 school year.

To account for this, U.S. News relied on past assessment data from the

three prior ranking years. Researchers also incorporated state science assessment data from the 2018-19 school year.

In addition to the national rankings, U.S. News also published rankings at the state, metro area and school district levels. Only metro areas and school districts with three or more high schools were included in these subrankings.

Signature School in Indiana is at the top of the list for charter schools, and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia is the No. 1 magnet school. The Davidson Academy of Nevada is the top STEM school.
