Saplings – Kindergarten

Here’s a brief overview of the plans in motion for full day forest kindergarten:

— The school day will start at 8:00 am and end between 3:00 and 3:30 pm.

— The kindergarten schedule is M-F for the sake of continuity and lesson planning, keeping our circles small and building the relationships of a “kindergarten family.” The cost breaks down to $50/day.

— Morning and afternoon snacks and lunch is including in invoicing for $4 per day.

— Our school day will still be very much play-based and focused on the social and emotional well being and foundation of our little learners. It will not only be the beginning of the year, but also the first time back into a social setting with peers for many.

— Each child will have his/her own “kit” that will stay with the teacher (pencil and sharpener, journal, magnifying glass, glue stick, colored pencils, field guide, etc.) These kits will be able to be catered to each child with the leveled reader and activities each needs for the day.

— The beginning of the school year will be focused on the following related to academics (the foundation, baseline, getting all on the same page): Your child’s ability to state first and last name when asked, knowing all letters in first name, ability to write name with proper case, recognizing and naming both uppercase and lowercase letters, associating sounds to corresponding letters, recognizing rhyming words, tracking top to bottom and left to right, finger spaces, pencil grasp, 1:1 correspondence, counting to 10 (and up to 25 in the first trimester), two-dimensional shapes, greater than and less than, sorting by color and shape. (It’s helpful that we know where most of your children left off here, but we do expect there to be the summer slide–especially after an early start to summer!)

— Because, per usual but now even more important than before, we will be spending as much time as possible in the forest we are turning the Four Seasons Woods into a forest full of literacy! We had Alphabet Forest, but we are in the midst of putting trail marker posts EVERYWHERE. The posts will have arrows pointing in all directions with the names of all of our favorite places. A letter blend forest and a sight word trail are also on the horizon!

— There will be homework. At the beginning of the year, homework will be you reading to your kindergartener, them searching for letters in everyday life, adding items to the grocery list, writing love notes and postcards to friends and family, and other ways to build up their fluency, comprehension, word-solving and a love for reading and writing. It will be counting items in your home, sorting items like silverware into the drawer, helping to match socks, scavenger hunts and fine motor creations (kits sent home may be color-by-numbers, play dough, weaving, cutting and pasting collages, etc). Homework will be secret learning set up so that your kindergarteners can grow their love of learning in a supporting, loving environment where you feel like you can support and complement their ability to learn and grow anywhere.

Kelsey

Miss Kelsey graduated from Butler University where she studied elementary and early childhood education.  During her time at Butler, she was introduced to the philosophy of education embraced by the early childhood centers in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Having worked in traditional preschool settings and feeling dissatisfied with the rigid, sterile, and uninspiring environments, Kelsey immediately connected with the Reggio philosophy of educating young learners. She values the warmth of the Reggio philosophy, the emphasis on relationship building and honoring children. Kelsey embraced the Reggio philosophy throughout her time at Butler. She completed her student teaching in a Reggio inspired school and went on to teach a multi-age preschool class at St. Mary’s Child Center.

Nurturing preschool students and discovering alongside them is one of Kelsey’s greatest joys in life and she is thankful for the opportunity to bring a Reggio inspired school to the Broad Ripple area.

The College of Education at Butler University prepares its pre-service teachers “for schools and communities as they could be, not simply perpetuating those that currently exist.” This goal resonated with Kelsey early on in her college career. After exploring the current high quality preschool programs in the Indianapolis area and searching for progressive education programs throughout the state, Kelsey felt frustrated with existing options for early childhood students. This frustration sparked a call to action. Kelsey felt it urgent to take her idea of how a school for young learners could be and make it a reality.

The young girl with a love for learning, school supplies, and a desire to grow into an inspirational teacher herself would never have foreseen this aspiration coming to fruition, but, in the words of Loris Malaguzzi, “Everything is possible in the mind of the child.”

Meet Miss Aime! I’m 26 years old, and I’m happily married. I have two doggies. I have my Child Development Associates. I love working at Sapling. I have been working with kids for about 6 years. I started at a day care with infants and toddlers…from there, I went to a Montessori preschool with 3 to 5 years olds. I then went to a head start preschool and finally I came here to Sapling which I love! It is like a second home to me the kids and the staff are like my family

Meet Miss Sam!! Hi! I am Miss Sam! I am a huge Harry Potter fan (ask anyone), a single mom, and a 2013 IU grad with a Human Development and Family Studies major and Psychology minor. I have always loved kids, even as a kid myself! I have been working with kids since August of 2013, first at The Goddard School of Avon (where I met Kelsey!) and then I came to Sapling in August of 2018, where I was an assistant teacher and then became Lead teacher in the Seedling Room in November of 2019! I love being outside, so I love being at Sapling where we can be outside as much as we want! I also became an official Indianapolis resident July of this year, which I am so grateful for because now I can walk to school and explore Broad Ripple with my daughter!

MESSAGE OF THE MANAGER

Hello dear guests!!!

We are glad to welcome you on the pages of the official website of the municipal budgetary preschool educational institution of kindergarten No. 44 “Saplings”

Kindergarten is cute, kind, smart, funny, noisy, wonderful children. Everything that we do in our kindergarten – we do for them, so that they grow and develop.

Kindergarten is parents. They are the main assistants in our work and we are very grateful to them for this.

Kindergarten is employees. The most hard-working, creative, all able, soul-sick, children-loving people.

Kindergarten is a unique system that provides care, supervision, nutrition, education, training and health improvement. Perhaps it is difficult to find another organization that would perform so many functions at the same time.

Kindergarten is a living organism that breathes, feels, rejoices, and grieves.

This fall, our kindergarten took part in the project “Cedars of Russia” from the Leningrad cedar nursery. We were given 4 seedlings of the Far Eastern cedar, also known as Korean. It is more resistant to St. Petersburg mild winters than Siberian cedar.

Children together with our janitor planted seedlings on the territory of our kindergarten. We secured all the seedlings with tripods so as not to accidentally touch the still weak seedlings.

Every day, during a walk, the guys check how the cedar is doing.

From 10 to 24 October, our kindergarten hosted a contest of autumn crafts “Autumn Inspiration”. All age groups took part in the competition.

The purpose of the competition was to create conditions for the development of creative abilities and artistic and aesthetic taste of pupils, to strengthen parent-child relationships through joint creativity.

118 families took part in the competition. Some of them made several crafts. All works were interesting and original. Every job deserves a win. Therefore, by decision of the jury, all participants were awarded diplomas of participants and winners.

After summing up the results of the competition, an exhibition of the best works was created. The exhibition was attended by all the children from the groups, as well as the parents of the pupils.

Thanks to all the parents and children who took an active part in organizing the exhibition, who saw the beauty in an unpretentious cone, in a simple spruce needle, who transformed the most ordinary dry twig.

Following summer, autumn has come.
Gold dressed everything around.
Willow turned yellow behind the window
And a birch tree in a golden dress,
Oh, what magnificent outfits!
So many colors!
What a beautiful pattern!
Fall leaves with gold thread
Autumn embroiders its carpet.

A holiday in kindergarten is always amazing miracles, magical colors, sonorous laughter of pupils, a lot of smiles and fun. That is why the autumn holiday in kindergarten is one of the most beloved among our children.

Preparations for the event began long before it began. Children with educators learned poetry, and with the music director – dances, songs about autumn.

A bear cub was a guest of the junior and early age groups, who spent fun forest games with the children. Pupils of the middle group went on an autumn trip. Children of senior preschool groups took part in the Garden defile. Well, the preparatory groups were looking for magic leaves to open a magic chest with Autumn gifts. And the most striking and memorable episode was the appearance of the most beautiful Autumn, who brought gifts for all the guys!

Our holidays were interesting, fun, bright, exciting. The children received a lot of positive emotions. The holiday brought great joy and pleasure to its participants!

I looked at the autumn holiday in kindergarten,
To please both adults and children.
Let it be already October outside the window,
And, we have a sports festival – a marathon!

At the beginning of October, the traditional sports event “Autumn Marathon – 2022” took place in our kindergarten. The participants of the holiday were children of all age groups, educators and assistant educators.

The holiday of sports and health began with a solemn parade of participants. Then, to cheerful and invigorating music, children and adults did their exercises. Mysterious microbes have arrived. In various ways they tried to spoil the holiday, but our pupils showed excellent knowledge, skills and habits in a healthy lifestyle.
