Daycare vs. Preschool – What’s the Difference?

When considering the branding of your new child care business, you may be wondering what name is most appropriate to convey your center’s personality, philosophy and educational approach to parents. Terms like “daycare,” “child care” and “preschool” are sometimes used interchangeably, and may not be regulated terms. Knowing which one to choose for your center isn’t always obvious.

Whether you’re starting an academically-focused preschool program or a free-ranging daycare center, it’s worth thinking about the different types of child care services and what their names represent to parents and others in your community.

Or maybe you’re a parent who’s comparing child care programs in your area and trying to choose between a daycare or a preschool program for your child. You might be wondering what the real differences are between these programs, including the services they offer and how they’re licensed in your state.

In this post, we’ll take a look at the legal and practical meaning behind terms like daycare vs. preschool, as well as other terms for child care programs that you may encounter. We’ll examine the similarities and the differences between daycare and preschool, and what you can commonly expect from each type of program.

Daycare vs. Preschool: What’s the Same?

Across the United States, there is generally no legal difference between a daycare and a preschool.

Child care programs are regulated at the state level, with laws that differentiate between home-based and center-based programs – but not between daycares and preschool programs. Both daycare and preschool programs must be licensed by state regulators, and are usually subject to the same laws and regulations for everything from director and staff qualifications to safety, nutrition, staff-to-child ratios and recordkeeping requirements. Regardless of whether a child care program is called a daycare or a preschool, it will usually need to meet standards for early childhood education.

Both preschools and daycares offer kids a place to grow, learn and play while supported by caring staff. They make safety a top concern, focusing on the well-being of each child while supporting their healthy physical, emotional and cognitive development. Generally, the focus is on kids younger than school age (with some exceptions for daycare programs). They will both provide meals, snacks, naps and outdoor play.

Given that the standards for these businesses are mostly the same, names like “daycare,” “child care” and “preschool” are usually a reflection of each early program’s mission, child care philosophy, values and how it chooses to market its services in the community.

Daycare vs. Preschool: What’s in a Name?

Child care centers use different names to let families know what type of services they offer. The term chosen by a center for itself can indicate its emphasis on education, age group, curriculum or methodology, and more.

Of all terms, “child care” is the broadest and most neutral, covering most types of child care programs that serve kids before school age. Although “daycare” sounds similar, some child care providers consider it outdated, saying it carries negative connotations that early childhood education is just babysitting. Other providers are neutral to the term.

Words like “preschool,” “learning center,” and “early education center” signify that a center wants to be known for its academic qualifications. These centers are more likely to target older toddlers aged 3-5, and have a formal academic curriculum. “Nursery school,” on the other hand, often means a program for infants to three years old.

“Daycare” in the name of a center usually connotes a less structured, play-based program, without a set curriculum. “Playschool” can be a middle ground between a daycare and a more academic center, with a play-based learning curriculum.

Daycare vs. Preschool: What’s the Difference?

Understanding that a center can choose to brand their program in various ways, let’s highlight some of the key differences that commonly appear between centers that market themselves as daycare vs. preschool.

Daycare vs. Preschool: Educational Focus and Routines

Although both preschools and daycares offer education for kids, preschools tend to be the more academically focused of the two. Daycare typically has more free-play time and fewer structured activities, with more spontaneous learning opportunities.

In preschool, the emphasis will be on preparing kids to enter kindergarten, by teaching skills such as literacy and numeracy, science and art. There is likely to be a set educational curriculum based on a methodology such as Montessori or Bank Street, with lesson plans focused on learning outcomes, and more formal educational assessments. Staff are likely to have more advanced qualifications in early childhood education.

Both daycares and preschools will teach kids important socialization and life skills, such as dressing themselves, conflict resolution and group play.

Daycare vs. Preschool: Services

Compared to preschools, daycares are more focused on giving working parents a place to leave their children during the day. They tend to have more flexible services, such as offering drop-in child care. Since they provide more routine care, they will usually provide more meals than a preschool.

While daycares may provide services like diapering, preschools generally cater to older kids and require their students to be potty-trained. Preschools are almost always center-based, while daycares may be based out of a home, and preschools also tend to be larger, with more students. Staff-to-child ratios are sometimes lower at preschools, allowing for each child to get more individualized attention.

Preschools and daycare centers both share in a dedication to safety and security for their young charges. Fee structures may be similar or preschool may be more expensive, depending on the region.

Daycare vs. Preschool: Age Requirements

Broadly speaking, daycare can have a larger age range than preschools. Daycares offer services to children from infancy up to age five and even after school programs for school age children, depending on the center and its offerings. Some daycares offer services for children as old as 12.

Normally, preschool is limited to children between the ages of three and five, although some preschools start as early as age two and some private preschools may include kindergarten. Children entering preschool will usually need to meet certain requirements such as potty training and basic language abilities.

Because of the wider age range at daycare, there is more opportunity for between-age interactions. Preschools often separate the age groups more, to allow for developmentally-appropriate learning opportunities in keeping with their set curriculum and methodology.

Daycare vs. Preschool: Operating Hours

When it comes to operating hours, the biggest difference between daycare and preschool is that preschool tends to follow a schedule similar to schools for older kids. Hours are shorter and preschools may be closed during summers, holidays and inclement weather. Preschools usually offer half-day or full-day programs, and kids may attend as little as twice per week.

Because of their focus on supporting working families, daycares will have hours as long as needed for parents to pick up their children from work. They are usually open during the summer and sometimes on weekends. Hours will be more flexible, in line with the less structured environment, allowing for the center to accommodate the child care needs of parents.

A Note about Marketing

No matter what you call your child care center, you should make sure to pay attention to naming conventions when doing any online marketing. Parents tend to search more for “daycare” than they do other terms, so it’s important to make sure you use that word prominently in order to show up higher in searches. You can find more info about search engine optimization (SEO) here.

September 30th. Afternoon

This is a real story. Happening to me right now. I write as is.

That Russian guy, Nikita, was put on another bus and left early. So he did not see how the minibus drove up and several more people were loaded there out of turn. Among them was our neighbor in the aircraft hangar – Andrey from Ukraine.

Why they were sent on a separate flight is unclear. Maybe they found covid and sent to quarantine, or maybe something else.

Looking at the map on my phone, we are driving north towards Frankfurt.

Before reaching the city, we turned to the checkpoint. Behind the huge barrier is a small town. Later, I walked along it and figured that at least 5 thousand people live here, and maybe all 10 if the rooms are densely populated.

From the window I see that there is a tent with goods on the territory, there are houses, ordinary German houses. I once rented an apartment on Airbnb in a similar area for 1k euros a month.

One of the houses has a sign in English: “Army’s Lounge”.

They brought me to the main, largest building. Called by name. They called it out.

We go into the assembly hall. Here is the scene. There are huge chandeliers. But not German chandeliers, they don’t make them in Germany, it seems to me. They look too flimsy.

There are benches. Seated. One of the workers pulls people out of the rows and takes a photo of them. I see a basketball court through the windows of the hall.

In front of us are tables with computers. People are sitting behind them, doing something. I thought that they would now be called for an interview to justify my stay here. No one has even asked me about this yet.

The rules of conduct were explained to us in 3 languages: English, Turkish and Arabic. At the same time, explanations in English and Turkish took 5 minutes each. Explained in Arabic for 15 minutes.

The instructor made hand gestures, waved, shook his fist. As far as I understood from the gestures, out of these 15 minutes, 10 were given to conveying information that smoking and cooking are not allowed in the rooms.

The rules are simple. In short:

  • You will be given a card with your photo. Carry it with you always. From now on, this is your passport.
  • The color of the card determines where you will receive food. For those who have a red card, food will be brought to the room. Oranges get food at mobile stations. Whites are in the dining room.
  • Breakfast from 7 to 9. Lunch and dinner served together from 12 to 15.
  • You can enroll in German courses free of charge.
  • You can get hot water from us.
  • But you can’t have a kettle in the room. Also, you can not have knives, weapons, electrical appliances (in addition to phones and computers).
  • Doors are not lockable anywhere. So always carry valuables with you.
  • There is a doctor on campus. Including the dentist. Is free.
  • There is also a kindergarten and a school.
  • You can leave the camp at any time. But not more than two days. If you leave for a longer time, you will need to start all over again.
  • Every hour there is a free bus to the city.
  • You can work in the camp. Pay 80 cents an hour.
  • No smoking or cooking in the rooms. The fine for a triggered alarm is 1,500 euros.

Got my card. Orange. Received a large bag with linens, towels, shower gel, dental calculator.

The number of the house where I now live is written on the card. I left the room, I’m looking.

The settlement is huge. I ask the workers how to get there, and they choose the right direction and make a gesture with their hand, as if they were throwing a bait. I understand it will take a long time.

The package is damn heavy. And I still carry this breakfast from Karlsruhe with me. That he surrendered to me, they will feed here anyway. I can make it to lunch today. But it’s a shame to throw it away.

I found my house, entrance, section. Getting in.

The room is smoky. Smells like freshly cooked food.

Empty. Nikita is sitting on one of the beds with his bag. Sad.

“Drank, ate too much, self-destructed.” How Muscovites with bipolar affective disorder live

“I was in love and I didn’t want to die”

Anna, 27 years old

I always knew something was wrong. From a very young age, it seemed to me that two different people live in me. Sometimes I felt like I had a split personality. I read books about it, tried to find answers, but found nothing.

When I was 22, I made up my mind and went to a psychotherapist. He said that I have bipolar affective disorder of an indeterminate type. For six months I was depressed, for another six months I was in mania. I could do anything, constantly get into some kind of story, change jobs like gloves. I was constantly fired from everywhere, I didn’t like everything, I couldn’t communicate with anyone. And I didn’t have any friends, because it was very difficult to be around me – I was very categorical and negative.

One of the strangest things that happened to me was when I went to dance a striptease. Actually, I am a lawyer by training, but at some point I decided: why not? Now, when I am already in therapy, I understand how strange and reckless this act was, but then it seemed to me that everything was fine. I ended up in a pretty good club, I was surrounded by very good people, and nothing bad happened to me. But the fact itself . .. Probably, if I had already undergone treatment then, I would not have been there.

Read on the topic:

At that time, I was interested in literally everything. I read books avidly, I could read a thick volume in a day. I constantly traveled, moved, got married at 19. Just two weeks later, we boarded the plane, and I was switched – I did not understand where I was, what kind of person was sitting next to me and why all this was needed. I could not answer myself the question: why did I decide to marry him?

I ran away from the doctor, from the pills, and from the awareness of my diagnosis for a long time. I drank, I ate, I ate too much food, I was generally engaged in self-destruction. The pills were scary. I did not know that they have side effects, and the normalization of the state should be expected. And that’s okay. When I first took the pill, I was smeared and very sleepy. And I was very disappointed. It seemed to me that it was like a pill for the head – I drank it and everything went away.

I hated it, especially when the mania set in. In this state, you think that everything is fine with you. You are full of strength, energy, you have a lot of ideas, you communicate with everyone and seem very beautiful to yourself. I started taking pills regularly when my condition became really critical. I had a psychosis, and then frankly suicidal thoughts began. I myself completely lost control and there was nothing I could do about it.

And at that time I had a loved one. I did not want to die at all, I wanted to live next to him. But even this feeling did not help.

My boyfriend was the only person who was constantly by my side during that period. Literally. He took me to the doctor, bought pills, food. And I just couldn’t do anything for eight months.

We have been together for three years. We have lived through many different crises. For example, at one time I did not want him to be near me. It seemed like he was in pain. I told him: “Why do you need all this? Find yourself a normal girl! Against the background of side effects from the pills, I gained weight, my eyesight fell, I sleep with nightmares . .. But he didn’t leave me anywhere. He said he’ll be there until the very end.

There were also difficulties with work. With BAD, optimal load is very important. Anything can provoke a deterioration – a change in the weather, a boss who has lashed out at you because of his bad mood. I am a lawyer, so at first I worked by profession, but then it became clear that something had to be changed.

I worked from home, got a job as a cashier in a children’s rope park, where I later became a holiday sales manager. Then I realized that I love children, received a narrow-profile education and began to work with children with mental disabilities. But this work began to kill me again, because the schedule was irregular, the tasks were difficult, and I also had to travel all over Moscow again. I fell into a deep depression again.

As a result, she closed the story with children for herself. Now I work as a sales manager in a fitness club, I sell health and sports to people.

With the help of therapy, I returned to normal. This, first of all, means calmness for me. Any disorder can be compared to alcohol intoxication or a hangover. And after therapy, you seem to sober up and never want to drink again.

But you also have to learn how to live normally. After such a firework in my head and in life, it may seem boring. And the worst option is to deliberately harm yourself in order to shake the psyche back. And sometimes such a desire still arises. But normally bipolar disorder doesn’t control me. I do it myself.

I have long dreamed of leaving Moscow. I would like to buy a house by the sea, go there, grow peaches and look into the distance. It’s like dreaming about the perfect retirement. Sometimes I think that I really need it.

The city has a strong influence on me. Everyone here is very fast, very nervous. I lived in different places, I have something to compare with.

When I worked as a lawyer, I constantly traveled to different authorities. And somewhere they barked at you, someone said something offensive to you, they pushed you into the subway, and that’s all – the roof went. Elsewhere, I think, it would be much calmer.

And the noise is pressing on my head. True, after working with special children, this is no longer so acutely perceived. Previously, any loud sound was annoying. Now, thanks to the treatment, it is already easier.

“If the problem is common, it can be solved somehow”

Kira, 36 years old

At first I worked with a psychologist for quite a long time, but the quality of my life did not noticeably change. But at the time, my condition didn’t interfere with my life that much, so I didn’t do anything drastic. In addition, I had classic fears about psychiatry. I was afraid that they would register me, put me in a mental hospital, and that would be the end of my life.

But at some point there was a crisis. The psyche passed, I finally realized that something was wrong and turned to the doctor for help.

I was sent for an examination. When the picture began to emerge, and I began to understand that it really looked like bipolar disorder, I ran away, did not complete the tests. Then I realized that I was not ready to realize it and live with it.

Some time later I went to the psychiatrist again, and they told me again that by all indications I had BAD. I needed to take drugs. I read about them on the Internet, and realized: no. The maximum that I was ready for was to order herbs in chain stores and drink them.

It took me a while to accept my diagnosis and the need for proper therapy, but when it did, I was relieved. It was the answer to all questions, put everything in its place.

True, there was a moment when I wanted to hide it from everyone. It seemed that the diagnosis was a shame, a secret that should never come out. But over time, it got easier for me. I found people living with the same disorder. They turned out to be close to me in terms of values and worldview. They admired me. I liked the way they live, the way they arrange their lives. Then I realized that because of the bipolar disorder, nothing will fall apart, I will not die from the fact that I have this disorder.

When the doctor gave me a successful therapy regimen, it immediately changed my life. First, I started to sleep. I have had sleep problems all my life. I almost never got enough sleep, I got up in the morning broken. Sleep was not rest for me. And then I began to sleep and rest. For me it was a real discovery.

Then I got strength. I was at a remote job, but in order to take on it, I had to set myself up for two hours. But suddenly I had a resource. The buildup now took no more than ten minutes. And I also wanted to put things in order in my house, beautifully arrange things, sort them, sort them out. And there was a desire to go somewhere just for yourself, and not for some obligations. I began to go to museums, theaters, to concerts of my favorite musicians, to exhibitions.

My relationship with my relatives began to change for the better. I talked about my diagnosis with my family. Mom then took it calmly. My father was very supportive and also my girlfriend. She also lives with BAR. We are comfortable with each other because we understand well what is happening to us.

And one of the necessary elements to learn to live with bipolar disorder is support groups. I have a psychotherapeutic education, however, in other areas. When I started attending these meetings, at first I experienced everything as a person with bipolar disorder. But then I looked at them through the eyes of a psychotherapist.

Many things turned out to be a pattern. The same thing happened to people, they received the same reactions from their environment. I realized that if it is something so general, it can be solved somehow. And if I don’t know something, then there are people who know how to improve my life.

But all the time I felt the colossal influence of the city and the informational noise. Until I realized the impact Moscow had on me, life was much worse. Now I know that I need some restrictions. For example, I almost never ride the subway.

I also don’t go to crowded places, especially on holidays. I understand that I can get overexcited, feel excessive joy or something like that. I monitor my interactions with the outside world very carefully. And I love to go where it is calm, where my psyche is resting. I do it whether I want it or not. It is necessary.

My relatives who have the same disorder and I came to the same conclusion. We would like to live near a big city, for example, outside the Moscow Ring Road, in a gated community near forests and lakes, but at the same time be able to quickly find ourselves in Moscow.

“In this state, I couldn’t even write a message”

Katerina, 35 years old

In 2021, I became very depressed. I was 34 years old. This has happened to me before, but this time it was really hard. I didn’t even want to eat, take care of myself. My sleep has changed a lot, day and night are mixed up. I fell asleep around five or six in the morning, and at some point I began to sleep for three hours a day. There was a feeling of absolute fatigue. And I decided to turn to a psychiatrist, because if you don’t even have the strength to brush your teeth, this is really serious.

Read on the topic:

I was sure that I would be diagnosed with depression, prescribed antidepressants and that was it. But it turned out that I have BAD. I wasn’t scared at all because I didn’t know what it was. Some information I googled already at home.

I was very lucky with the specialists. First, I was diagnosed right away. And secondly, from the very beginning they picked up exactly those pills that I needed. Our preparations are reminiscent of volumes of Russian classics – the description of contraindications and side effects can take up several pages. But I was lucky here too: I never had any side effects.

When I was depressed, I just quit my job and hadn’t found a new job yet, so at least this problem was solved. But communication with everyone was interrupted. In this state, I could not write a message. For my surroundings, I seemed to have disappeared.

Before depression, I led a very active lifestyle, constantly meeting with someone, visiting museums and exhibitions. The depression nullified it all. But the therapy did its job, now I am in a conditionally normal state, or, in the language of specialists, in intermission. The only problem is sleep. Only pills help to fall asleep and sleep.

But in a year I didn’t go into depression or hypomania. Although my social life is not as active now as it once was, I like it. Everything is reminiscent of a Scandinavian movie, where people have a clear schedule of life, according to which they fall asleep and wake up, go to nature or meet friends. I have never lived like this. So this life is completely new, although it takes some getting used to.

And the city rather helped me in this. I am a native Muscovite and have never lived in another city. I have nothing to compare Moscow with. It is a bustling city with a high intensity of life, but it has many positives. For example, a perfectly working delivery. If you are depressed and do not want to go anywhere, the products will be brought by a courier, like anything else.

In addition, many specialists, state and non-state clinics work in Moscow. You can go to several doctors to confirm the diagnosis, adjust the therapy, find the most comfortable conditions for you.

Public initiatives are well developed in our city. For example, support groups for people with bipolar disorder in Moscow are held face-to-face, which is not always the case in other cities. Now I myself lead one of these groups. So the metropolis gives me more opportunities to cope with the diagnosis.

But a lot of people here have the “immortal pony” syndrome, which is constantly at work. This state of me was very shaken and led to hypomania. Now I think that if the work was a little more monotonous, and the attitude of those around me to others, it would stabilize me more. But again, in Moscow there are more opportunities to find both a suitable job and a supportive environment. In addition, people here have a much easier attitude towards diagnoses than in small towns, where this is much more stigmatized.

“There is no average person with bipolar disorder”

Alena Shibarshina, director of ANO “Kak ty”

Just like the people who come to our support groups, I live with bipolar affective disorder. I first went to a psychiatrist about ten years ago, but it wasn’t until five years later that I got the correct diagnosis. Before that, they said: depression.

Read on:

This happens very often. I have heard many times from people who come to our support groups that the disorder is not immediately diagnosed correctly, and this greatly worsens the quality of life.

I started treatment right after my diagnosis and have been stable for over two years now. This is a chronic disorder, which means that you need to constantly take medication and be in psychotherapy – I do this.

In 2019, I was in the hospital for quite a long time with depression. There were other women with me with all sorts of stories, they wanted to share them and learn from the experience of others. And then I realized that people really need support. I have long wanted to move into the field of charity, but I was afraid of a drop in income.

When I started having long and severe depressions, I had to leave the managerial position I held because it was a constant race for financial results, stress and lack of sleep. It was very hard to realize that there would be no former standard of living and it was not clear what to do next. Then I remembered my desire to help and decided to lead an equal support group for people with bipolar disorder. It was a volunteer initiative, which eventually turned into ANO “Kak ty”: gradually new directions and projects began to emerge, the hobby turned into a full-time job, it was time to formalize. For example, it became clear that such groups are relevant not only for people with bipolar disorder, but also for their loved ones, and for people with other disorders. Then it became clear that people had the same questions about treatment and psychotherapy, and I decided to arrange meetings with specialists to talk about it. This is how the YouTube channel appeared, because a lot more people can watch the broadcast than come to face-to-face meetings.

Read on the topic:

And then it turned out that many people with a disorder cannot afford psychotherapy, and it is very important. You need to be able to control emotions, because BAD is a mood disorder. And we came up with training in emotion regulation skills. This is not psychotherapy, but it helps to cope and keep oneself in balance.

At first it was quite hard for me. Then I came out of depression and had little contact with people. The peer support group was also my way of socializing. It was an event that I had been preparing for all week.

At first I let the stories of the band members through me, and it was very difficult. After the meeting, I left for about two days. Over time, I learned to conduct these activities safely for myself.

We practically do not advertise the organization, but our channel, for example, has already collected more than one and a half thousand subscribers without any promotion. And people constantly come to us, they need it. They learn about us themselves.

It’s hard to say how a big city affects people with bipolar disorder – it’s very individual. For example, I don’t care what city I’m in. Of course, the general level of stress is higher in the metropolis, but there are methods to cope with it. Psychotherapy and daily routine help me, being in a supportive environment – thanks to “How are you” it’s easy, because caring and kind people are involved in helping people and psychoactivism.

At the same time, there are undoubted advantages in big cities. For example, it is easier for a person to find help. There are many specialists working here, and there are also face-to-face peer support groups, which are either few or non-existent in small towns. In a metropolis, it is easier for people to find like-minded people, those who will understand and support them. Here is a better diagnosis. People are more likely to receive correct diagnoses, which means they are more likely to start treatment, find support groups to meet and communicate with other people with the same disorder.

Here too, the stigmatization of psychiatric diagnoses is much weaker. It so happened that in large cities society is more advanced due to the opportunities provided by the urban environment itself.

People come to our groups in a variety of conditions – both when it’s bad and when it’s stable. In the latter case, they come both for prevention and to support others, to show that one can live well, harmoniously, in balance. It is very important.
And they are very different people. There is no image of an “average person with bipolar disorder”. Men and women, young and old, all go. The oldest participant who came to the meetings is over 70. Housewives and business owners, parents of several children and single people come. BAR can affect anyone. This does not depend on his social status, age or education.

It is often believed that a person with a mental disorder cannot settle down in life at all, he cannot have a good job, family, children. All this is not true. Every person’s life develops in its own way. We are all very different. The main thing is not to start the disease, look for competent specialists, educate yourself and seek the support of understanding people.

Happiness and prosperity to you, Khabarovsk Territory!

Today is the Khabarovsk Territory’s birthday, it turns 84 years old. Their personal stories, the stories of their famous relatives, are told by people who love their land, are grateful to it for being born here, successful, for giving them the joy of communicating with unique nature.

A lexander Kolomytsev, head of the Komsomolsk municipal district:

– I was born in the Belgorod region, but I sincerely consider the Khabarovsk Territory to be my “small homeland”. Although, why is it small? In terms of territory, our region is comparable to many European countries. In terms of natural wealth and development potential, the region can easily compete with any region of Russia. The edge is big, so there is a lot of work. I am convinced that we will cope with any tasks, because people with a special character, hardworking and open-hearted people live here.

The Khabarovsk Territory looks to the future with confidence. I am proud that the residents of the Komsomolsk region, with the support of the governor and the government of the region, are making a significant contribution to the treasury of regional achievements, making life in villages and towns active, vibrant and interesting. As never before, much has been done for the birthday of the region for the improvement of rural settlements. Under the “Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment” program, new park and pedestrian zones, children’s and sports grounds, rollerdromes and squares appeared in eight rural settlements this year. This means that both the Komsomolsk region and the Khabarovsk Territory are celebrating the holiday with a great mood. Thank you all for your hard work!

May our native land be young, flourishing and beautiful, may happy children grow up in happy families! Happy holiday, Khabarovsk Territory!

Olga Bulkova, Chairman of the Khabarovsk Krayrybakkolkhozsoyuz:

– The history of our region is powerful! Ever since the time of Governor-General Muravyov-Amursky, who returned the mighty Amur River to Russia and opened an outlet to the Pacific Ocean, it was clear that Russia’s geopolitical interests were, are and will be here, in the East.

Khabarovsk Krayrybakkolkhozsoyuz has been working for the sake of our region and Fatherland throughout its history, which is 62 years. Today, the union includes enterprises located practically throughout the Khabarovsk Territory and located on two seas – the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan, as well as in the waters of the Tatar Strait, one of the largest straits of the Pacific Ocean.

Everything that our fishermen extract in the Khabarovsk Territory is processed at our own modern high-tech coastal plants built on our land.

The Khabarovsk Territory has always been not only a resource, but also an industrial center of the Far East. Maintaining and promoting this trend in the international arena, our Okhotsk Shipyard is engaged in a large area related to the construction of vessels of small fishing fleet, carries out fleet repairs in ports of any territory of presence. So the Khabarovsk Territory corresponds to the conjuncture of the world ship repair market!

And, of course, as patriots of the Khabarovsk Territory, we are engaged in the protection of spawning grounds and the reproduction of wild salmon, which has been living in our waters for 100 million years. Thanks to the efforts of fishermen and fish farmers of the Khabarovsk Territory, mankind has preserved the population of the Pacific salmon in the world ocean, but the Atlantic population that lived in Europe remained only artificial.

Love for our small Motherland is in our blood, so we cherish it, work with soul, because feelings are more important than a technocratic approach. To all residents of the Khabarovsk Territory—good health, energy, happiness and prosperity! And our region – stability, prosperity and new successes! Seven feet under the keel.

Natalya Bolonyaeva, head physician of the regional consultative and diagnostic center “Viveya”:

– The history of our large family is connected with the Khabarovsk Territory. The most famous is my father-in-law, Alexey Vasilyevich Bolonyaev, who bred more than 40 varieties of pears and apples, which are still in demand among summer residents. In taste, they are not inferior to southern varieties, while they withstand forty-degree frosts. My mother-in-law brought out a large chokeberry, not everyone knows who its author is. My dad during the Great Patriotic War was here, in the Far East, at a military post, he has three orders of the Red Banner. My mother has been in medicine all her life. Those are my roots!

Most of my life was spent in Khabarovsk, which I love very much. When I return from a business trip, the first thing that catches my eye is the bright sun, the high sky, our extraordinary nature.

I am glad that despite the difficult times that have been plaguing us lately, healthcare is actively developing. This is not even about new technologies, but about bringing medicine closer to people who live in remote areas, where you can’t get there except by water. We have never paid so much attention to these trips on all available modes of transport! I remember my mother, she is a therapist by profession, flew by helicopter somewhere to the north, if a person needed urgent help.

Sanitary aviation for emergency cases is now, but we are engaged in preventive examinations. There is no need to wait for a person to become ill, have a stroke or a heart attack, it is better to prevent these diseases. For two years in a row, our specialists have been examining patients in their small villages. People are grateful, they can check their eyesight, undergo an examination of the heart, blood vessels, and detect oncology at an early stage.

Our center “Viveya” has a good team that works with great dedication, specialists are constantly learning, following the latest advances in medicine. At one time we talked about the development of international medical tourism, but so far the circumstances do not allow it. But the inner one is growing. Patients come to us for examination even from Moscow and St. Petersburg.

I want to wish everyone health, peace and prosperity!

Sergey Skorinov, Rector of the Khabarovsk State Institute of Culture, Chairman of the Assembly of Peoples of the Khabarovsk Territory:

– My whole life is connected with the Khabarovsk Territory. I was born in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, studied there, met my future wife, she is my classmate. We had two daughters. I graduated from the Komsomol Pedagogical Institute, and then also from Khabarovsk, so I am a teacher twice, I have two specialties – a philologist and a historian. Here I have become professional.

As long as I live, I never cease to be amazed at the beauty of our nature, the greatness of the Amur, it cannot be compared with any other river. I traveled a lot around the region, I know that hardworking, courageous and very sincere people live here who will always come to the rescue. Our region is the motherland of eight indigenous peoples who keep their history and culture.

The region is developing, every year Khabarovsk is getting better. There are big changes in our institute, it is undergoing modernization. The dormitory is being overhauled, comfortable conditions for students will be created there. During the celebration of the birthday of the region, we will open the Prototyping Center – this is a creative platform where everyone can fulfill their dream – record music, public speaking, write a script, create a video clip. An expensive gift in every sense, not only for students, but for all Khabarovsk residents.

And we are also participants in the interuniversity campus, which will be built in Khabarovsk. With its introduction into operation, we will get new opportunities for the development of creative educational activities.

Alexander Batalov, biologist, hunter, director of the Durminskoye forest and hunting farm:

– My homeland is Altai, but fate connected me with the Khabarovsk Territory and for more than 40 years I have been living and working on this land. My children were born here, my son Sergey works next to me, my friends live here, famous people who loved and still love nature. I know almost all the reserves of the region, I worked in them, was engaged in security and scientific activities. As a taiga person, I consider myself very lucky to be here, in the Far East. Sikhote-Alin, the Amur River, the Amur tiger, the white-breasted bear are unique natural phenomena! There is nothing like it in the world. And I, believe me, have seen a lot, been to Africa and America, but there is simply no such diversity of nature.
