Round Mountain in Belokurikha – Itonga.ru
Round Mountain in Belokurikha is a very interesting attraction of the resort. In addition to the fascinating ascent to the top, Mount Kruglaya attracts tourists with magnificent panoramic views from its top. The top of the mountain itself is also remarkable because of the large rock of a bizarre shape, which gave the name to Mount Round.
Contents
Where is Mount Kruglyaya
Mount Kruglyaya is located in the vicinity of the resort town of Belokurikha in the Altai Territory. You can start a walk to it from the Rossiya sanatorium. The distance will be 5500 meters.
From the sanatorium “Rossiya” to the beginning of the ascent to the top of the mountain there is a trail. You can get there both on foot and by car or quad bike. Further, to the top of Mount Kruglaya, you should only get on foot.
The route of the health path to Mount Kruglaya coincides with the route of the health path to the Four Brothers rock. An asphalt road leads from the Rossiya sanatorium, which, after the helipad, turns into a dirt road. Then it passes through the observation deck Solnechnaya Polyana.
After a steep ascent, the path leads to a parking area where you can relax in a gazebo.
Here the paths of the health paths diverge. The path to the left leads to the Four Brothers rock, and the path to the right leads to the Kruglyaya mountain.
Climbing Mount Kruglyaya
Mount Kruglyaya in Belokurikha has a height of 801 meters above sea level. The trail that leads to the top of the mountain is located on a slope with an inclination angle of up to 35 degrees. There is a sign at the beginning of the trail.
At the beginning of the ascent, the trail is not very steep. But gradually the angle of inclination becomes more and more. It is worth noting that the slope of Mount Kruglaya is covered with trees. At the same time, their roots form a kind of steps.
Halfway through we stopped to look back. Despite the heavy climb, I would like to say that Mount Kruglyaya attracts attention with its beautiful nature.
At the end of the climb it became much more difficult, because the angle of inclination became as large as possible.
But finally we got to the top of Mount Kruglyaya.
What to see on the top of Mount Kruglyaya in Belokurikha
Climbing Mount Kruglyaya is not yet the end point of the health path. Very entertaining is a walk along the ridge of the mountain. As soon as we climbed the mountain, a panoramic view of the mountains of the Cherginsky Range opened before us.
From the top of Mount Kruglaya you can see Mount Sinyukha, which is located 20 km from Belokurikha. By the way, her height is 1379meters above sea level.
Since we climbed Mount Kruglyaya at the beginning of May, the snow on the tops of the high mountains themselves has not yet completely melted.
Mount Kruglyaya in Belokurikha is a great place to take beautiful photos.
For example, there are many different rock formations on the ridge of a mountain. Tourists love to climb them in order to take spectacular photos against the backdrop of other mountains.
Also, do not forget about the beautiful forest landscapes.
After climbing Mount Kruglyaya we went to the left.
There is a trodden path that stretches along the entire ridge.
Along the trail we constantly encountered small rock formations.
After walking a little more, we looked to the left. Before us opened a beautiful panoramic view of Belokurikha. We even saw the road by which we arrived here.
Rock on the top of Kruglyaya mountain
After about 200 meters from the start of the trail we reached large rocks.
It is in honor of these rocks that the Round Mountain in Belokurikha got its name. Their height is 15 meters.
These huge rocks can be climbed. For this, two wooden stairs are installed here.
It is worth noting that you need to climb very carefully. Between the passages from the first to the second stairs hangs a large stone. For example, I, having lost my vigilance for a second, banged my head against him with all my might.
After I recovered from the impact, we continued to look at the top of the cliff. At the top we saw a rock of almost round shape. By the way, because of its layered structure, the rock looks like a stack of pancakes. Therefore, it is also called Mother-in-law pancakes. Unfortunately, there were vandals here too, who spoiled it with inscriptions.
Mount Kruglyaya never ceased to delight us with beautiful landscapes. From the platform near the round rock, you can also admire the Altai Mountains.
Mount Sinyukha is also visible from here.
But being on the rocks, you should be very careful. Since the platform in front of the round stone also has a slightly rounded shape, and then abruptly breaks down.
If you go around the rock from the other side, you can also find something to see. Here you can see how the boundless valley stretches beyond the mountains.
After resting on the top of Mount Kruglaya, you can continue your journey further along the route to the Stone Waterfall and the Lonely Pine. But as time passed by evening, we no longer had time to get to them.

Achishkho – Kruglyaya Polyana
Hike: Achishkho – Kruglyaya Polyana former weather station.
May in the mountains is a wonderful time for trekking in the mountains. Traditionally, in May, our team, together with tourists from different parts of Russia, hikes to the observation peak Achishkho. At this time of the year, you can literally go from summer to winter and back in one or two days. This is possible only on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus.
It’s actually summer in Krasnaya Polyana.
This contrast leaves no one indifferent, even pessimists. As Yu.K. Efremov:
“Let the rise be stony,
But this view – three hundred miles –
Will get through any pessimist,
And he will want to shout down:
“Hey, you burrowers,
Without exhibiting frames in the summer!
Can’t you express in minor
Wide open panoramas!”
So, on the May holidays, many people have the opportunity to go to the mountains overnight. The group is recruited, the passes are issued – go ahead!
Day one.
We start directly from the village of Krasnaya Polyana. the stormy mountain river Beshenka, and beautiful canyons, and the mysterious beech forest, and alpine meadows, as well as observation platforms.0147
At the beginning of the trail, where the dirt road ends, the first surprise is immediately – dolmens.
Dolmens are ancient burial and religious structures belonging to the category of megaliths (that is, structures made of large stones).
The name comes from the appearance of structures common to Europe – a slab raised on stone supports, resembling a table. Dolmens are the same age as the Egyptian pyramids, they are several thousand years old!
Photographing dolmens in the Beshenka river valley
Then the path leads to the river Beshenka.
After the crossing we find ourselves in a picturesque and already green beech forest.
Walking through such a forest is a pleasure: it is cool, a stormy mountain river rustles nearby, fresh juicy greenery pleases the eye.
There are several river crossings on a short stretch.
The river often changes its direction, rushing down between the rocks, showing an endless white-foam performance.
We rise even higher and, on the left in the direction of travel, we see sheer cliffs above us. On the map, this place is marked as “Pine Rock”.
Pines love dry places, so they often grow over cliffs. Now we have the main climb through the forest.
In some places a pungent and sourish smell appears in the forest – this is a small worm – a beech nod!
You can also see announcements like this…
And now the forest is gradually thinning out and we are entering the Glade with a stone.
From the glade there is a beautiful view of the village of Krasnaya Polyana and the peaks of Mount Aibga.
Today the plan is fulfilled: we have scored 900 meters in height and walked about 7 km.
Now our task is to equip the camp. We set up tents, boil tea, collect firewood for the fire.
And now dinner is ready!
Not every millionaire can afford to dine with such a view!
We are having a rest, discussing tomorrow’s ascent to horizons at the weather station. We admire sunset colors and rainbows after the rain on Aibga.
And now the fire has flared up!
On this the first day of our journey came to an end.
Second day. Round Glade (Glade with a stone) – Achishkho ridge – Meteorological station – horizons on Achishkho
Rise at dawn. Quickly prepare breakfast and go on horizons! Above the Glade with a stone, a powerful avalanche broke young beeches.
Part of the trail goes along the avalanche…
The morning air is clean and transparent, so we can see the tops of the mountains up to Abkhazia.
Ah-Ag peak 2732m – local Elbrus 😉
First, the climb goes through the beech forest, which has now become not green but gray, since it is still winter here.
We are returning from summer to spring and then to winter! And this is time travel!
Aibga Ridge at dawn
We go out to the snow-covered glades, from which a view of the peaks of Mount Achishkho opens.
Wolf teeth…
Eastern shoulder of Achishkho…
And suddenly we come across bear tracks, both large and very small.
So, a she-bear with a cub, you have to be especially careful. We rise higher and, in front, in the forest we notice a bear! It’s good that the bear is alone, probably it’s dad. We take pictures, we come closer.
Usually, a bear, as soon as he smells a person, immediately runs away and we know it, but does the bear know it himself!
Well, I smelled … and set off up the slope, only the heels and you can see how they sparkle ..
Well, in the meantime, we continue to move along the Achishkho ridge. We meet one of the Khmelevsky lakes, completely covered with snow, only a small thaw in the center…
And we go out to the glades at the weather station. Lake Zerkalnoe is completely covered with snow
Just above Lake Zerkalnoe there is a trailer of border guards who were on duty here during the Olympics.
Only they forgot to pick it up. There used to be a weather station here, but now there will be a trailer.
For winter, in general, a wonderful shelter from bad weather, a hurricane or heavy snowfall.
Let’s go to the northern horizon.
Right in front of us, the mighty Chugush, 3238m, reared like a stone giant.
A little to the left, his younger brother Maly Chugush 2980m.
Fisht-Oshten massif is clearly visible in the north.
Here is Mount Fisht 2867m.
To the east of Chugush we see the Prishvin Peak and the Assar Range.
The weather is beautiful, the views are great, what else do you need in the mountains?!
Having admired the majestic panoramas, we move to the southern outlook.
Here, under our feet, lies the valley of the Beshenka river and the lake-like extension of the Mzymta valley.
And the peaks of Mount Aibga shot up over Krasnaya Polyana.
There is still a lot of snow in the northern cirques, where skiers still ski…
The Abkhazian mountains are clearly visible: the Arabica ridge, Ah-Ag, Shkhabashkha.
You can also see the Caucasian chamois and the main peak Achishkho 2391m.
The main peak of Achishkho 2391m
The eastern shoulder of Achishkho, which is often confused with the main peak when looking at Achishkho from Krasnaya Polyana.
Red rock, behind which the village of Aibga is located.
Everything there remains the same as it was in Krasnaya Polyana 100 years ago. She is also called the younger sister of Krasnaya Polyana.
Behind the Red Rock we see the Abkhazian mountains: the Achmarda ridge, the Arabica ridge, the Katsirkha ridge with the Kamerin-Depa peak (1967 m), Mount Cholgon 2709m, also the Stone Treasure.
And right below us, our Kruglyaya Polyanka is clearly visible…
And the sources of the Beshenka River
In the distance, behind the descending waves of wooded foothills, you can see the sea
Glade.
